The oldest story ever told that will forever captivate us: a child of surprise with a mystical power arrives to “unfuck“ the world. It never works but the story is mostly about hope, so you can’t complain. I don’t know much about the history of sci-fi, but the last few years have seemed more science fact than fiction. As readers trend towards escapism, sci-fi should follow. By adding more diversity, unexpected fictional elements, humor, and cross genre fantasy. P. Djèlí Clark’s new book is a great example of what science fiction could potentially be. I hope so, because sci-fi should always reflect future possibilities.
