Pitch for a Supermassive Games storyline:
1) The Title
RADIOACTIVE
2) The Prologue
1945, Los Alamos, New Mexico. The Trinity test is a success, resulting in the creation of the first atom bomb. However, a few months later, Dr. Carl McGregor (the red herring protagonist) is called to Los Alamos to investigate a mysterious set of events plaguing the area. Reports of people going missing and residents going crazy have the Pentagon spooked.
One night, Dr. McGregor and his staff are attacked by mysterious shadowy figures. Despite Dr. McGregor’s attempts to flee, he is eventually cut down by what appears to be a “glowing” creature.
(Basically, the villain of this game is some kind of creature that was mutated by the nuclear testing. So, a riff/homage to Godzilla. However, instead of creating kaijus, the monster is much smaller and comparable to the wendigos in “Until Dawn” and the werewolves of “The Quarry”)
3) The Main Story
In the present day, we follow the Proudstar family who live on the G. A. Romero Reservation, which is a few miles away from Los Alamos. The area has become the center of ghost stories due to people still going missing. Of the ghost stories, the most infamous one is that people are being kidnapped by “the skinwalkers”, who in Navajo culture are witches that have the ability to turn into, possess, or disguise themselves as an animal.
(Obviously, the skinwalkers are the radioactive creatures from the prologue. The introduction of the skinwalker legend is meant to be a misdirection)
The Proudstars, who run the local market, have to frequently deal with tourists who want to see “the skinwalkers”. The Proudstars usually dismiss these tourists, especially since a great deal of them tend to be obnoxious (and borderline racist/ignorant). The family, although they’re aware of the legends, aren’t too concerned since they haven’t encountered the supposed skinwalkers.
Around this time, two groups of outsiders arrive at the reservation. The first is a group of ghost hunters who are trying to capture footage of the skinwalkers. The second is a group of ruthless gangmembers that take the Proudstar family hostage.
The first 4 chapters focus on the Proudstars dealing with the gangmembers. Simultaneously, the ghost hunters encounter a “skin-walker”, which turns out to be one of the radioactive creatures from the prologue. The ghost hunters flee the radioactive monsters and make their way to the Proudstar market, putting them in the middle of the hostage situation. They also unintentionally bring the monsters to the market, thus leading into the 2nd half.
The remaining 6 chapters focuses on the Proudstars, the gangmembers, and the ghost hunters trying to work together as a team to survive the radioactive monsters (the fake skinwalkers). Similar to “House of Ashes”, either the groups can put their differences aside or tear each apart. Depending on your choices, either everyone makes it out alive…or everyone ends up meeting the same fate as the scientist from the start.
4) The Playable Protagonists
* Gustavo Proudstar (ABRASIVE, COMMANDING, RATIONAL): The patriarch of the Proudstar family. He is an army veteran and the most skeptical of his family. He is portrayed by Zahn McClarnon.
* Miriam Begay-Proudstar (CONFIDENT, RESOURCEFUL, PERSUASIVE): The matriarch of the Proudstar family. She runs the family’s market and is the most superstitious of her family. She is portrayed by Irene Bedard.
* Jason Proudstar (INSECURE, UNMOTIVATED, INTELLIGENT): Gustavo’s younger brother who he doesn’t have much respect for. He’s smart, but is lazy and fine with mooching off his brother and sister-in-law. He is portrayed by Michael Greyeyes.
* Dante Begay (CONSERVATIVE, METHODICAL, PROTECTIVE): Miriam’s younger brother who works as a tribal police officer. He generally gets along with the Proudstars, but frequently disagrees with his niece Eliza over her political beliefs. He is portrayed by Martin Sensmeier.
* Eliza Proudstar (DRIVEN, COMPLEX, IRREVERENT): The eldest daughter of Gustavo and Miriam. She is a progressive political activist who moved out to the city, but visits the family from time to time. She is portrayed by Q'orianka Kilcher.
* Wenona Proudstar (INNOCENT, AMBITIOUS, ADVENTUROUS): The youngest daughter of Gustavo and Miriam. She is a college student but secretly dreams of being a famous actress. She is portrayed by Amber Midthunder.
* Freddy Kim (FOOLHARDY, RELAXED, LOYAL): The only playable character from the ghost hunter group. He is his group’s camera man and the one who doesn’t take the ghost stories seriously. He is portrayed by Steven Yeun.
* Melissa Frost (RUTHLESS, DETERMINED, COURAGEOUS): The only playable character from the gangmembers. Although she is a ruthless thug, it’s slowly revealed that she has a heart of gold. She is the gangmember who suggests a truce with the Proudstars. She is portrayed by Victoria Pedretti.
5) Significant Non-Playable Characters (note: I’m not covering every single character in this hypothetical game)
* Samuel Fulci: The leader of the ghost hunters. He is obsessed with viewership and clout, to the point he ignores warnings about potential danger. He is portrayed by Bruce Campbell.
* Lars Waingrove: The leader of the gangmembers. He is a ruthless sociopath and the most dangerous person in the survivor group. Because of this, Lars can be considered the secondary antagonist of the game (sorta like Josh Washington or Travis Hackett, but less sympathetic). He is portrayed by Leigh Whannell.
* The CIA Agent / The Man in Black: An unnamed agent who is interrogating the player about the events of the story. Basically, this game’s version of the Psychiatrist/the Curator/Eliza Vorez. He is portrayed by Michael Biehn.

Preliminary and Final Cover Art by Steven D Anderson. “Star Wars: Survivor’s Quest.” February, 2004.
StarWars.com offered a glimpse of Steven D Anderson’s cover art for “Star Wars: Survivor’s Quest” in June of 2003. The preliminary art was floating around for a bit, and eagle-eyed fans noticed Mara was depicted as Angie Everhart. In an interview on StarWars.com, author Timothy Zahn shared a bit of Mara and Luke’s role in the novel:
Luke and Mara are still basically newlyweds as the novel opens. They both have doubts to work through - not about their love for each other, but about their own pasts, and the still-mysterious past of the Jedi order. Can you talk a little bit about this element of the novel?
Though Mara has fully joined the New Republic, there are still parts of her past Imperial service that hold a draw for her, particularly the order and discipline the Empire offered, and she discovers she still has to work through some of those feelings. Luke, for his part, is still struggling with questions about his role as "the" Jedi Master of the New Republic, as well as how some of the rules and traditions of the old Jedi order relate to the new Jedi Order he's trying to build.

George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez are 'Out of Sight' on Peacock
George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez are ‘Out of Sight’ on Peacock
Steven Soderbergh made a reputation as an adventurous and ambitious filmmaker with his debut feature, sex, lies and videotape (1989), which helped turn the American Indie imprint into a cultural force, but it took Out of Sight (1998) to give him a sexy, fun hit. George Clooney is sweet and personable as bank robber Jack Foley, bringing a steely confidence behind his disarming grin. Jennifer…

Tales From the Mos Eisley Cantina - Ed. Kevin J. Anderson
Read: Mar - Apr 2023
Normally my strategy with collections is to rapid fire go through all the stories and give them a quick yay or nay. But this collection was unique in my experience. Each story is about a background character seen in the cantina scene in A New Hope. And all the stories interconnect. Not only do they all converge on the cantina for the scene with Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, and Chewbacca, they often intersect with other stories in other ways. The first couple stories I was like is this worth it? But as I went on and caught onto what they were doing it became way more fun to read.
Info: Bantam Spectra; 1995; Contributing authors: Kathy Tyers, Tom & Martha Veitch, Timothy Zahn, A. C. Crispin, Dave Wolverton, David Bischoff, Barbara Hambly, Daniel Keys Moran, Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, Doug Beason, Jennifer Roberson, Jerry Oltion, Kenneth C. Flint, M. Shayne Bell, Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens

Questions and Answers
What prompted you to start writing in the first place? Was there a particular event or person that inspired you?  My imaginary friends when I was very little, they got me telling my parents all sorts of stories about them, I would like to point out that one of my imaginary friends was Raphael from TMNT, I used to call him 'Me Turtle' 😆
When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?  Probably Primary when they ask kids what they wanted to be, got my teacher's attention as I was horrible at writing at that point 😵My words are more flowery, yet I still have a lot to learn with structure!
What are your long-term goals as a writer?  Goals? Is it a thing? Lol Yeah, it's publishing an original 100,000-word book!
What do you like to write about?  If I had to make a choice, I really enjoy Eldritch Abominations and horror, especially this time of year!
How long does it usually take you to write a book?  Fanfictions can take between a month to five+ years. Original Books? That can take several years or shorter depending on how much time I have and how interested I am in writing whatever it is I'm writing and my hyperfixations don't get in my way lol
What Pairing is your Favorite and why? I get asked this one quite often and Honestly, I don't think I ever do it justice 🤣 I have several favorites at any time and am not going to list them all here as that is another entry all its own, but I can tell you most if not all of them are enemies to lovers! I think it's the challenge of writing two utterly different people who should by all accounts hate each other but, some invisible signal just ignites and they have something to bind them together in a new way...If that makes any sense 😵‍💫
Who are some of your favorite writers?  Steven King, Joe Hill, Timothy Zahn, David Mack, and Mercedes Lackey. If I added fanfiction writers that would be a novel all its own lol But, I will gladly add TheHeadlessHorseman13 to this list 😊

38-40!
38. releases you’re looking forward to next year
1. godkiller by hannah kaner 2. the scourge between stars by nessa brown 3. the deep sky by yume kitasei 4. witch king by martha wells 5. a day of fallen night by samantha shannon 🤩
also really looking forward to the dungeons & dragons: the legend of drizzt visual dictionary that's out in march 👀
39. five books you absolutely want to read next year?
this is so hard... how to narrow the list down to five... i won't include the books above, though they're all obviously books i want to read next year
1. babylon's ashes by james s.a. corey 2. deadhouse gates by steven erikson 3. malice by john gwynne 4. spectre of the past by timothy zahn 5. the curse of the mistwraith by janny wurts
40. do you have any reading goals for next year?
i have a few reading goals for 2023!
i want to finish more series. i've started a lot of series (41 are in-progress atm 💀) but haven't finished as many in comparison so one of my goals is to get the number of in-progress series down to 20ish if i can.
i want to read(finish) more of the physical books i own. the number of unread books on my shelves is... too big. it's too big. which is great because so many options but also........ too big.
buy less books. i've set a little 'you can buy 1 book for every 10 books from your physical tbr that you finish' goal for myself excluding pre-orders and special circumstances.
send me bookish asks! 📚

Pitch for a Supermassive Games installment:
1) The title: THE ENEMY WAY (referring to the Navajo traditional ceremony for countering the harmful effects of chindi, which are vengeful ghosts)
2) The premise:
In Arizona, the Yazzie family inherits a horse ranch that belonged to a distant relative. Although the Yazzies aren’t familiar with the practice of caring for horses, the family is nonetheless excited over the prospect of moving into a new location. What starts out as a fun trip to the new home quickly turns into a nightmare when they learn that the ranch is haunted by “chindi” aka vengeful ghosts.
Chindi: The ghost left behind after a person dies, believed to leave the body with the deceased's last breath. It is everything that was bad about the person, the "residue that man has been unable to bring into universal harmony".
Based on the player’s actions, either the Yazzie family will be able to survive the night...or suffer the same fate of the ghosts that haunt their new home.
3) Influences (movies that you can watch to get a feel for what I’m going for with this pitch):
Poltergeist (this is the main influence), The Exorcist, The Haunting of Hill House, The Conjuring, Insidious, The Evil Dead
If you want to get specific, the Navajo level from Beyond Two Souls
4) The Playable Cast:
* Grant Yazzie (played by Zahn McClarnon): Patriarch of the Yazzie family / COMMANDING, STUBBORN
* Mabel Yazzie (played by Kimberly Norris Guerrero): Matriarch of the Yazzie family / COMPASSIONATE, HARDWORKING
* Noah Yazzie (played by Tatanka Means): Grant and Mabel’s eldest son / RATIONAL, BRAVE
* Amber Yazzie (played by Jessica Matten): Grant and Mabel’s eldest daughter / INTELLIGENT, PERSUASIVE
* Raul Yazzie (played by Forrest Goodluck): Grant and Mabel’s youngest son / RECKLESS, WITTY
* Lenora Yazzie (played by Amber Midthunder): Grant and Mabel’s uoungest daughter / ADVENTUROUS, DILIGENT
* Jerome Kim (played by Steven Yeun): Amber’s Korean-American boyfriend / ROMANTIC, INSECURE
* Morgan Reddington (played by Elizabeth Henstridge): Friend of the Yazzie family and Noah’s love interest / LOYAL, INDECISIVE
5) Non-Playable Cast:
* “The Medicine Man” (played by Wes Studi): A medicine man who coaches the player as the game goes on. He is the game’s equivalent to Eliza Vorez, the Curator, and Dr. Alan Hill.
