#Taryn Foster
Text
Coral restoration efforts usually involve transplanting tiny corals, cultivated in nurseries, on to damaged reefs.
However the work can be slow and costly, and only a fraction of the reefs at risk are getting help.
In the shallow waters of the Abrolhos Islands, [Marine biologist Taryn Foster] is testing a system she hopes will revive reefs more quickly...
It involves grafting coral fragments into small plugs, which are inserted into a moulded base. Those bases are then placed in batches on the seabed....
Ms Foster has formed a start-up firm called Coral Maker and hopes that a partnership with San Francisco-based engineering software firm Autodesk will accelerate the process further.
Their researchers have been training an artificial intelligence to control collaborative robots (cobots), which work closely alongside humans.
"Some of these processes in coral propagation are just repetitive pick and place tasks, and they're ideally suited to robotic automation," says Ms Foster.
A robotic arm can graft or glue coral fragments to the seed plugs. Another places them in the base, using vision systems to make decisions about how to grab it.
"Every piece of coral is different, even within the same species, so the robots need to recognise coral fragments and how to handle them," says Nic Carey, senior principal research scientist at Autodesk.
"So far, they're very good at handling the variability in coral shapes."

Madoc and Taryn's Relationship
Not a Taryn apologist, but girly had many reasons to have daddy issues. Madoc might have said he loved them both, but he didn’t love them the same looking at his words and actions.
After the duel between the twins, we get some hints on how Madoc cares for Taryn. Madoc tells Jude after she duels Taryn that she loves both. Let's recap what that love looks like. Madoc lets Taryn get engaged to Locke, knowing she will be miserable. He did not allow Jude to become a knight. The Red Coronation played a part in it, but there’s a good chance he didn’t think it would suit Jude truly to be bossed around by a Lord or Lady.
Madoc also mentions Taryn as not a match for Locke while he sees Locke as not suitable to Jude. We can interpret that in many ways, but there’s a flattering tone to Jude.
Finally, the way he described Cardan is not worth protecting, you could apply most of it to Taryn. She appeared more vain than Jude, uninterested in swords (although she was not bad at it per se), clever and socially apt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jude debated herself about Madoc being her father, but in her POV he only calls her foster daughter once and he believes he’s introducing Taryn. He calls Jude his daughter to faeries, regardless if they are unhappy about a mortal’s presence, but he doesn’t extend the same treatment to Taryn - even after she betrays Jude at his request.

Round 2, Match 3: Madoc vs. Daenerys Targaryen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitted kids:
Madoc: Jude Duarte, Taryn Duarte, Oak Greenbriar
Daenerys Targaryen: Drogon, Rhaegal, Viserion, Grey Worm, Missandei, the entire population of Slavers Bay
Propaganda under the cut!
Madoc:
1. “This ain't found family, this is forced family, 99% of all characters in their universe would have been better off without Madoc being anyone's parent at all--but with all that out of the way, impressively terrible though he is, he's no less of a dad for it. Peak evil family man here. He has three foster/adopted children--the lines are blurry here--starting with Jude and Taryn, miserable twin sisters extraordinaire, whom he, ahh, rescued from a difficult situation when they were young. Which is to say he murdered their parents in a fit of rage, evaluated the resulting scene, and decided that since they were his wife's kids and their actual parents were dead now, the responsibility of caring for them really fell to him. Later on, he got another kid by marrying, for complex political reasons on his part, a woman who brought an adoptive baby son, Oak (rescued from the corpse of his assassinated mother), with her. Madoc repeatedly uses his children as pawns, almost murders Jude a couple times, and kills one of Oak's birth parents too, but (and this is more condemnation than excuse) that's just in his nature, and he really does love his children, even though that generally makes them more screwed up. He's a very special adoptive dad and his parenting failures are spectacular.”
2. "His wife ran away with the blacksmith and took their daughter with her so he showed up at their house and murdered them, as you do. But then he felt really bad about leaving his ex-wife’s new kids alone so he adopted them and they had as fucked up a relationship as you would expect considering he murdered their parents. Also Oak, his second wife’s best friend’s son who she passed off as her son because his father was a prince. He’s there too and yes Madoc raised as part of his play for the throne yes he loves him (it’s complicated)
I find it very funny that his adopted kids (Jude and Oak especially) have these tumultuous complicated relationships with him like You hurt me I love you You’ll always be a part of me. Meanwhile his biological daughter Vivienne just absolutely hates his fucking guts."
Daenerys Targaryen:
"Is there any better example of a serial adopter than someone who has adopted an entire city? Daenerys not only is the ""mother of dragons"" with her three dragons being her magic children, but she's also adopted soldiers, polyglot preteens, and old man renowned for his honor, and three cities worth of freed slaves. She takes her responsibility as their mother (or ""mhysa"" as used in the books) extremely seriously, giving up her goals of reaching Westeros to help ensure that her freed children are able to function in Meereen (notably the books handle this situation much better than the show but the show's cultural impact is too big to ignore)"

“We’re here!” Jude called as she pushed open the door to the small apartment Madoc and Oriana had taken to renting. Icy wind whipped inward, snow drifting in and melting as it came in contact with the hardwood floor. Cardan shuffled in behind her, closing the door as she kicked off her boots.
Madoc opened his mouth to greet them, opting for a disapproving grunt when he noticed Cardan had tagged along. He turned from the small hallway that led to the door and disappeared around the corner into the kitchen. Oriana spun around the dining table and traded places with him. She helped Jude shed her coat, giving her a small, private smile. “Dinner is almost ready,” she said quietly. “Oak would like to show you his new game. He has not stopped talking about it,” she said, gaze shifting to Cardan. He gave her a short nod and slipped out of his own coat.
He placed a hand on Jude’s lower back when she stood rooted in place. She took a deep breath, staring straight ahead. Another. She turned, looking at the wall just passed him for a moment before meeting his gaze. She gave him a funny look before reaching up to snatch the beanie he’d insisted on wearing off his head, revealing the sharp points of his ears. He gave her an awkward smile.
She hung the hat overtop her coat on the rack and laced two of his fingers through her own, dragging him onward.
The small living and dining rooms were separated by a couch as the hallway opened up. Vivi, sitting cross-legged on the floor, looked up as they came in, giving them a small wave. Oak sat on the couch, glued to the small box TV that had been propped up on a well-worn, pre-owned stand.
Jude walked around the side of the couch, resting on the arm as she squinted at the show that played on the TV, trying to recall its name. A loud clanking of dishes came from the kitchen just behind them, and Jude turned to watch as Oriana shuffled between where Madoc stood over the stove with a turkey, trying to set places at the table.
“What’s all this?” She said, inclining her head toward Vivi.
She huffed a small laugh. “Oriana said we were going to have a Christmas the ‘mortal way.’ You know. To blend in.”
Jude raised a brow as she watched her foster father bring the turkey on its serving dish to the center of the table, bells jingling. Cardan turned, brows furrowing at the sound before bursting out in laughter. “What,” he said, wheezing. “Is that? ” He pointed to the sweater Madoc was wearing, a glittery red, covered in Jingle bells around the bottom hem. He made a face that might have sent his enemies running, grumbling something under his breath as he turned away, fiddling with the stove.
Oriana gave a tight smile. “It’s a Christmas sweater,” she said. “To blend in with the mortals.” Jude made a face somewhere between amusement and a grimace as Cardan struggled to catch his breath.
Madoc reached into a cabinet and pulled out a handful of glasses, turning back to the table to put them in their places. Cardan swiped at his cheeks as he jingled with every step. He looked up, reading the now-legible text on his sweater. Jingle my bells. He doubled over again, bracing himself with his hands on his knees.
Jude hid a grin behind her hand as Oak looked up from the television, deciphering the sudden commotion. Madoc set the glasses down roughly, earning an annoyed look from his wife.
Heather stepped out from the back hallway, casting Vivi a wary glance as Madoc ground his teeth.
Oak tugged on Cardan’s sleeve, pulling him around the couch to show him his new game. Cardan hiccuped as he sat down, still wiping tears from his eyes.
Taryn swept through the front door, pushing it closed with her back and unwinding her scarf at the same time. She twisted the lock in place as she kicked off her shoes, sliding her coat off and hanging on the over-full rack. Oriana swept her into a hug, leaning over her swollen belly.
As Madoc finished setting the table, placing the mismatched forks in nearly the wrong places, Oriana herded everyone to the table.
“Are we saying Grace?” Heather asked, turning to Vivi.
Madoc made a face. “Who’s Grace?”
Heather opened her mouth. Closed it. “That means no,” Cardan said, fighting a smile as he slid into his seat. Jude pinched her nose.
“I am glad you all have come,” Oriana said, swatting her husband as he fidgeted with the silverware at his place. “Will you carve it?” She turned to him, folding her napkin onto her lap.
Something ticked in his jaw. “I cannot.”
The air stilled for a moment, heavy and thick enough to cut. Cardan pulled the collar of his shirt over his nose as his shoulders shook. Madoc shot him a glare.
“Of course,” Oriana said, trying to amend. “I suppose it need not be so formal.” She winced, urging everyone to carve what they wanted.
Heather shot Vivi a look as she scooped a large serving of mashed potatoes on her plate. “Your parents are weird,” she whispered.
Vivi grinned and whispered back, “I told you you didn’t need to be worried.”
Jude sipped lightly from her glass as she listened to Oak talk about the strange classes in his mortal school. His latest science project. Something called geometry.
Cardan watched Madoc butter his roll with a spoon. He bumped Jude’s knee with his own and nodded in his direction when he’d caught her attention.
“He can’t lift a weapon,” she’d said lowly. “A knife is a weapon.” Cardan’s face went blank the way it did when he was really trying not to laugh.
Madoc’s sweater jingled as he shifted in his chair. “So, Madoc,” Cardan began. Jude shot him a warning look. “You’ve been very festive so far.” Madoc raised his chin, awaiting the blow. He brought his elbows to the table, fork in hand. “Will you be dressing up as the Grinch tomorrow, then?”
Madoc tilted his head quizzically. Cardan nodded to the movie that had been left playing on the television. He glanced over just in time to see the live-action Grinch argue with his echo.
He whipped his head back to Cardan with a fire in his eyes–Cardan, who looked entirely too smug–and dropped his fork like it was hot beneath his hands. “Anything’s a weapon if you’re brave enough, huh?” Madoc bared his teeth. Jude smacked her husband's shoulder.
Madoc stood and made his way down the hall, the bells on his sweater revealing his every step.
“Six thirty, dinner with me.” Cardan said as Madoc stormed away. “I can’t cancel that again.”
Heather’s knee hit the table as she snuffed her laugh. Cardan caught Vivi’s eye and burst out in laughter again. Vivi made jazz hands at him, teary-eyed. “Five thirty,” he said as he tried to catch his breath. “Jazzercize.”
“Oh, are we doing costumes now?” Oak said, standing. “I have one!” He dashed down the hall before anyone could protest. Oriana rest her chin on her fist, formality forgotten.
Oak came back draped in a white bedsheet, tossed over one shoulder and trailing behind him.
“Are you a ghost?” Heather asked. “Like one of the ghosts of Christmas?”
“That makes Madoc Scrooge,” Cardan said, breathing heavily.
Taryn cast Jude a look. She shrugged, having no idea what they were talking about either.
“No!” Oak said as he rearranged the sheet. “It’s a toga.
“Toga Oak,” Cardan said thoughtfully.
“Toaka,” Heather said whisfully, a laugh bubbling up through her throat.
Cardan turned back to Jude. “Do you think if we buy him the costume he’ll wear it?”
Jude gave him a blank look. “Definitely not.”
“What if we double-dog dare him.”
Jude sat down her glass. “What?”
“You know, double-dog dare. It’s like a normal dare, but spicier.”
She made a face at him. “Who told you this?”
“It’s true.” Oak said, nodding solemnly.
Vivi turned to Oak as he slid back into his seat, toga and all. “Since when did you become so wise?”
“It’s the power of the toga. Not many can bear it.”
Cardan snapped his fingers. “Snowmiser!” Jude looked back at him, lost. “Madoc could be Snowmiser.”
Vivi took a second serving of mashed potatoes. “So who’s Heatmiser?”
“Grima Mog,” Cardan said. Jude shook her head. “I just feel like she’d be capable of filling the role.”
“Hear me out,” Heather said. “Jack Frost from The Santa Clause. ”
Cardan coughed. “Oh my god.”
Vivi swallowed heavily. “Does that make you Scott Calvin?” She pointed her fork at him. Oriana looked to Jude for an explanation. She shrugged again, eyes wide.
Oak sat up straight, dusting off his toga. “And I will be Lucy.”
Cardan took a long sip from his glass. “No, wrong sibling. Jack Frost kidnapped her, remember?”
Oak nodded again, all seriousness. “Then I should be Charlie.”
The table was silent as they digested the exchange. Cardan diverted when he caught Jude looking at him, moon-eyed.
“Why a toga?”
“You can get anywhere with a good costume and any amount of confidence.”
Cardan raised his glass in salute. Oak followed.
“You should join Greek Life,” Cardan said.
Heather shook her face, puzzled. “I don’t think you know what that means.”
The conversation drifted a dozen different ways before Madoc returned, wearing a different sweater that his wife had bought for him. To blend in, she’d said. As if he wasn’t green.
He frowned as he sat back down in his chair, taking his wife’s hand beneath the table. She gave him a soft smile and used her knife to butter his roll. He looked away, gaze drifting back to the TV. The Grinch was handing back the gifts he’d stolen. Apparently, his heart had grown three sizes. Ridiculous, he’d thought. He’d seen hearts, both beating and not. They do not grow like that.
He turned his attention back to the table. To Vivi, joking with her girlfriend. To Oak, laughing and sitting in a sheet, to Taryn, who was laughing at something Cardan said. To Jude, holding his hand.
Hearts could not grow, he decided. But perhaps they could make room.

My roman empire is when Jude pretended to be Taryn in order to testify and how she fooled even her foster father and mother that she was her twin, but Cardan knew from the MOMENT he saw her that it was Jude. He had no doubts, no illusions, not for one second. He just immediately knew it was her.
Jude, you can’t really think I don’t know it’s you. I knew you from the moment you walked into the brugh.

NO SPOILERS FOR THE STOLEN HEIR
SPOILERS FOR THE CRUEL PRINCE TRILOGY
Right now i am a bit over a half in the stolen heir, when suddenly taryn gets mentioned murdering her husband,
and you know what i remebered?
Taryn was PREGNANT in the queen of nothing, which means that in the stolen heir, her child must already be seven or eight years old.
What is her child called? Whats the relationship? Is jude a good aunt?
And what this also means is that oak is a DOUBLE uncle, because taryn is his foster sister and locke his half brother.
The connections in the series are so complicated and weird, you can just make so many jokes about it.

Book Review: Folk of Air
I cannot believe it’s taken me this long to write this but I felt like I’m order to review the books, I wanted to read all of them before I gave a review! (Mind you I’ve read the main trilogy but I’m aware there are two complimentary novella books that I’ve yet to read, so I will not be touching on them.)
There was definitely aspects to this book that I absolutely adored, one of those things are surprisingly the first person POV, I feel like anyone who’s been on my blog for awhile probably knows by now that I’m not a fan of first person stories (particularly in the YA genre for many reasons) but I adored Jude’s narration.
Her grapple with feeling powerless and wanting power had me right there with her, on the edge of my seat rooting for her even in her worst moments, her powerful declaration of becoming worse then her enemies if she couldn’t be better. Willingly positioning herself to make herself stronger. But more then anything, I personally enjoyed the fact that Jude doesn’t try to justify her actions.
She’s very aware of what she’s doing, she knows her actions are heinous from the very moment she joins the Court of Shadows. It was such a slow trickling water fall of disaster honestly, I loved the slow build up in the series of Jude’s lust for power, first starting with the gias to not be charmed, twisting into grappling for the crown and eventually taking Cardan under her control.
Not only this but her sheer determination to do something was thoroughly enjoyable to read and watch unfold, even when she lost the battles or took the hits, watching her grit her teeth and her back up was easily one of my favorite aspects of her character (also her pure spiteful nature deeply resonates with me so maybe I’m biased)
I was also highly enjoyed her complex relationship with Madoc which was tainted from the very moment the book started. Him murdering her parents and fostering her and her sisters. The constant push and pull of their relationship and going from family to enemies.
Cardan was also a very fun character to read! While he was indeed cruel in the first book. There was just something so charming about his delivery, the longing stares that are filled with both yearning and anger. Not only that but the way he transitioned into enjoying his position as the king in the second book.
‘kiss me again, kiss me until I’m sick of it’ 😵‍💫
There’s so many things I enjoyed about this series, but out of all of them, I somehow really enjoyed the first book the best, watching Cardan and Jude continuously attempt to one up each other on pranks, and it eventually leading to her killing his best friend was just…🤣 horrendous but somehow amusing (granted she didn’t kill him to spite Cardan but you get my point)
But while I enjoyed this book, now that I’ve read the main trilogy I can’t help but wish there was more too it. Holly did an amazing job on some aspects of this book, but there were others I felt that severely lacked.
(I would also just like to state that these are my feelings and opinions and that while I feel it’s shame, I still believe it’s a great series to read!)
A lot of the characters felt very one demisonal to me, and maybe it’s because I’m a writer and reader who enjoys character relationships, I feel like they really make the story great, a great plot helps, I feel like strong we’ll rounded characters count the most. There’s more then plenty of examples.
The first being Jude’s sisters, Taryn and Vivi. We know them but at the same time we really don’t. Vivi was the one who swore to never forgive Madoc and so I assumed she would play a much bigger role in the series then she did, she’s a typical eldest rebel child who is, at most, a minor annoyance to the dad. I was really hoping we would see more of her pain and anguish against Madoc for murdering their parents (as she was the oldest and probably remembers it the best). But the most we see is a lack luster character who kinda remains me of a sassy Y/n from a draco x reader fanfic on wattpad.
(I’m writing this at 2 in the morning with only four hours of sleep so please bare with me)
We do get to see more of Taryn’s side of things during the first book, but once Jude decided to join the court of shadows, all bets are off, and so I felt like that would’ve been a good jumping off point to dive into the riff and feelings of alienation from her sister. But alas, that wasn’t really there either.
We also have Orianna, she first read as “the ugly step mother” trope but turns out she is just a very mild version of it and only to Jude due to how rebellious she is, and I once again would have loved to have seen their relationship played out in more detail.
The last character is unfortunately Cardan, and listen I LOVE him, I truly do, but I feel like we as the reader, don’t know much about him. I find it a bit odd that despite having two books titled after him, there really isn’t many scenes in the story with him in it, not only this but at the end of book one, he becomes the pentacle of the whole plot.
So I feel as though he should’ve been more included in scenes or had more then he did, and furthermore, their relationship. I went into the book knowing the romance was a subplot, but when the feelings are that conflicted by book two…😭 I’m sorry but it felt like it really should have been more at the forefront of the plot.
My policy with writing is “show don’t tell” so while I know Jude was conflicted with her feelings for Cardan is was shown so little that it felt only a little forced, especially given their lack of scenes together. And listen I’m not advocating for more romance. But moreso advocating for better tension, it the conflict is brought up during narration a lot but we don’t see it in action during the scenes except for a few times throughout the whole series. I feel like telling that side of the plot rather then showing it really didn’t help it’s case.
Cardan has some very memorable lines he says to her but it was difficult to really feel into it because they really only have about four scenes in the whole trilogy where there is tension of feelings involved. And if Cardan was a side character this would have gotten a pass, but he isn’t, he’s the main supporting male in the series that is at the center of the plot. Objectively, it all would’ve felt a lot more seamless to me if the conflict was more present in the plot then it was. This wouldn’t have required a lot of changes imo, just more dialogue between them with the right wording in any scenes and it wouldn’t just have to be them.
My point being it could have been worked better into the main plot that takes center stage.
I don’t want to be too harsh on the series of course! I still enjoyed reading it! But there was definitely some unmistakable flaws in the story that are difficult to forget. Publishing houses can be picky with word count so maybe a lot of things had to be edited out to fit a word count. It really seems that way because there’s so many characters and so little time to go into depth about all of them.
That isn’t to say it’s neccasary to go into depths with all of the characters but a heart to heart conversation between some and Jude would’ve done them a lot of favor in making them more fleshed out. That’s really my biggest let down with the story, so many characters have potential but a lot of them fell very flat. Another example being the gang at the Court of Shadows. We were introduced to Roach, Ghost and Bomb but hardly got any screen time with any of them during book 1.
But I wanted to wait for judgment on that because I thought we’ll maybe this is just setting the stage for book 2, and while in a way it very much was. We still didn’t get to see much of their side of things or really see them build any relationship with Jude.
In closing I definitely see the appeal of the Folk of Air series, it was very captivating and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of Jude’s rise to power, the grapple to control it and her fall from grace. The ending was very nice! I was really curious to see how Madoc’s ending would play out as he is an integral character to the series but up until the moment I couldn’t see any other ending for him aside from dying by Jude in someway. I really enjoyed the plot twist of exiling him to the mortal world!
Even more so I loved that the series started in the mortal world and it ended in the mortal world with the final toast to scheming good schemes. All in total I’d rate the series a
⭐️ 3 out of 5 ⭐️

Robots Enter the Race to Save Dying Coral Reefs
Taryn Foster believes Australia’s dying coral reefs can still be rescued—if she can speed up efforts to save them. For years, biologists like her have been lending a hand to reefs struggling with rising temperatures and ocean acidity: They’ve collected coral fragments and cut them into pieces to propagate and grow them in nurseries on land; they’ve crossbred species to build in heat-resistance;…

prev | beginning | next (transcript below)
Taryn: Why'd you let her get like this? Brylee: Let her? I'm not her babysitter, Ryn. Sienna: I'm literally fine. Brylee: You're really not. Plus, that guy you were with gave me the worst vibes. Sienna: I liked him. [hiccup] Hope: Oh, yeah? What's his name? Taryn: Mmhmm. Surely, if you're fine, you remember. Sienna: Eric..? Alex! Mark. No, he's Joey. Sienna (cont'd): He's a... modeling scout from DSV. Brylee: Oh, yeah right! Sienna (slurred): He said I could be the next Kendall Jenner. Hope: That's... an insult, my love.

Lost of Two Sisters Pt. 2
A few wanted Cardan's POV, so..here it is!! It isn't my favorite but I tried <3
@fantasyfox10123 @xticklemeemox (tagged)
Taryn walked through the doors in a panicked rush, her hand clutching her chest as she stared in horror at the floor. Her face twisted and she started to panic more. I turned and watched her try to keep herself steady.
"Taryn? Taryn what happened?" I walked to hold the girls' shoulders. "Where's Vivienne and Jude?" My question became a more panicked one as I noticed my wife was no where to be seen. My heart quickened more as I noticed only Taryn came back.
Grima Mog stepped into the room, I repeating his question before Taryn broke. Her eyes released tears as she sobbed and fell into my arms. Holding her, I looked down then back up at Grima Mog, where it hit me.
"No..do not tell me," I started, and Taryn hid her face into my abdomen as she nodded.
"I lost them, both of them. He killed them both, Cardan. I'm so sorry," she sobbed, "I'm so sorry," she whispered and hiccuped.
My heart sank, it couldn't be. Jude was dead.
"Who's he." I demanded, my tone coming out colder than expected. "Taryn." I forced the girl to stand up straight, needing an answer before I grabbed my sword and left. My body wanted to do the same thing Taryn was doing, but I wouldn't until I was alone and he was dead.
Looking at Taryn, she reminded me too much of Jude. Her face, her eyes, the only difference in this moment was, Jude's body was awaiting beside Vivienne, ready for a proper burial.
I let go to Taryn before I could do more. Turning my back to her. "Who." I repeated again. Taryn tried to speak, and I couldn't look at her, I couldn't stand the sight of my wife knowing she was dead.
"M-Mad-" she hyperventilated on her words, my head whipping around.
"Your own father?" I questioned. How could their own father kill them? He protected them with his life, saught out to kill anyone who touched them. I remembered the first time anyone ever got caught by Madoc: a fae was messing with the twins, swinging back and forth, using glitter, tugging at the girls' dresses. It went on for quite some time, Taryn would shed a few tears and Jude would slap him, to which the faerie would lift up her dress.
Madoc eventually found out, and nobody saw the fae again. Nobody cared, who would? He touched a Duarte, both of them. Anyone who had the balls to do so, had the balls to prepare for death.
"It's my fault. I should have let him save her, I should have let him take her back to camp." The alive twin looked at me, eyes bloodshot. I can imagine her pain right now, killing her asshole of a husband - to which she thought I didn't know - and both her sisters dead after her foster father and step-mother abandoned her. She had no one. I had no one. We both just lost someone who we leaned our life's purpose on. "Please don't hurt me."
The plead almost hurt me that she'd think I'd do such a thing, but a year ago I would have. A year ago I would have called her a crybaby and shoved her off me, say I was glad Jude was gone. But now I just want to break down just like she was, scream and cry my anger out.
"Why would I hurt you, Taryn." My voice was soft, afraid a voice break would expose my pain.
"I let the Queen die," she answered and my heart twisted tightly remembering how important that mortal was to me. "I didn't even know you two were married." She sniffled then laughed a little, "my sister wanted to be a knight and she became the first mortal queen of elfhame."
"Grima Mog, take her to the guest chambers, and have the servants put their bodies in caskets. They both deserve a proper goodbye." Those instructions were all I said before I left the building and headed to Madoc's camp.
When I got there, Oriana was laying a comforting hand on Madoc's shoulder. Madoc was slumped over and I noticed two guards were dead and thrown beside a tree, forgotten.
"Madoc.." Oriana's soft voice brought my head back to them. Madoc looked up, eyes bloodshot as they looked at me ready for defense. "Prince Cardan hear him out-"
"High King Cardan." I corrected her with a cold tone. Madoc stood almost immediately, drawing his sword. My eyes swelled with tears as I saw the blood on the end, Jude's blood. "You killed my wife."
Madoc stopped moving, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Who?"
"Jude Duarte. Meaning, you killed my sister-in-law." Scowling, I drew my sword. "Nobody touches my wife and lives."
"When were you and Jude married?" Oriana asked, staying her distance in fear of herself being killed. "How long?" She seemed curious, but I could tell she was in shock of the dead sisters.
"Freshly married when I exiled her." I answered the woman's question, "why did you do it?" I looked down at Madoc's sword, eyes glued to the blood. Madoc said nothing. My emotions started to overcome my careless filter. "Why?!"
"I didn't mean to, and my guards killed Vivienne. Not me." Madoc explained, but I was far too in it to care. I swung my sword, aiming right for Madoc. The second I felt my sword pierce Madoc, a sharp pain ran through my body and Oriana gasped.
Looking down, Madoc's sword was deep inside of me, and mine in Madoc. We both froze, looking at one another. My sword went through the heart, his went through my stomach.
"Madoc!" Oriana cried as we both fell to our knees. I winced at the sting, but I knew Madoc was fighting for his life, spitting blood.
"This.." I began, straining my words out, "this is your punishment. May you rest peacefully within the land, but may you always remember what you ruined." My last words came out as a cough as his grip dropped and he fell to the ground.
I ripped out the sword and dug my hand into the soil of the ground, the dampness seeping to my fingers, and pressed it against my wound to help heal it until I get to safety.
"You- you!" Oriana tried to spew hatred words, yet none came out. She just shedded tears and looked down. I said nothing, I couldn't. I just made my way to my chambers and hid from the guards and Taryn. Once my back hit the now closed door, I inhaled and laid my head back.
Tears streamed down my face now as I finally broke. A scream erupted from my throat, scratching the inside of it but I never cared. The screams didn't stop until I collapsed to the floor and sobbed into my knees. My stomach bled and stung, but I screamed to the sky for Jude.
I've finally lost everything. My father, my brothers and sisters, my mother, my beautiful wife. My beautiful, darling Jude. My dearest punishment. My everything. She was gone.
