Personal headcanon of mine, Sidon wanted to accept the arranged marriage with Yona because he is a good Zora. He takes his role as Prince very seriously. But… he was worried how this would effect his relationship with Link. Something was finally budding between the two but then Link vanished… and then the upheaval happened. Sidon knew it was more important now than ever to unite the Zora people. He agreed to the marriage and him and Yona were engaged. He tried his best to be a doting fiancé, but Yona could tell his heart wasn’t in it. Yona herself had a lover hidden from the court, so she could see how this facade was hurting Sidon. When Link came back into Sidon’s life, Yona knew what she had to do.

In totk I can easily solve the Sidon-having-a-fiancée fiasco in two different ways.

Number 1: Yona is Sidon’s beard (I don’t think the Zora are homophobic but it’s heavily implied in botw that a lot of the Zora [more specifically the old farts] dislike/hate Hylians and Link is just that + royal bloodline and all that bc I’m not sure if you could even cross breed a Hylian and a Zora) so their engagement is really only for looks, publicity, and preservation of the bloodline but they’d both be gay with Sidon dating Link and Yona dating Zelda (they would be cute together and Zelda also deserves a hot fish partner she literally fought Ganon for a hundred years)

Number 2: Polyamory.
