As a kid, Sokka’s freckles are super pale and barely there unless you’re looking right up close. When he starts traveling with Aang and getting more sun exposure in hotter climates they start popping up EVERYWHERE, especially in the fire nation where the sun is so close and so important, and Agni blesses him with more marks than he’s ever seen.

After they get together, Zuko realizes how much he loves the little dots on Sokka’s skin. He absently traces invisible paths between the ones on his shoulders in the soft moments when they’re lying together in the morning light before Sokka stirs. He makes it a secret goal to kiss each mark that’s spattered across the planes of his lover’s face and it makes Sokka giggle, a bright and safe sound that warms him from the inside out. When he’s having a particularly bad day and his council is being especially terrible, he calms himself down by trying to count each visible freckle between his arm wrappings and his sleeves.

He loves them because they’re beautiful, because they’re Sokka… and because they’re a reminder that though his own mark in Agni’s name was born of cruelty, these tiny flecks are direct gift from the sun. They’re a reminder that fire is life, and life can be good, if he lets it.

Hi!! I’m completely indecisive and incapable of choosing just ONE, so I have comprised a list!

Favorite Zukka moments:

The zoom in on Sokka grabbing Zuko’s arm and just…holding it there for a second in TBR????

The whole thing in the Southern Raiders episode where Zuko told a mediocre joke and Sokka laughed for way longer than everyone else then called Zuko his hero 😭

Of course, THE PRINCE AND THE FOOL

And lastly, a 3 in 1: that entire end scene of The Boiling Rock where Zuko pushed Sokka out of the way of fire, then jumped because he knew Sokka would catch him, and GRASPED Sokka’s hands for like a solid 45 seconds after saving him from falling off of the gondola (like ok Zuko….he’s safe now…..you can stop being gay now let go-)

#1 of course is that they raised Izumi together and became a sweet domestic family that gave her all the love and support they wished they received growing up <33

ZUKKA BETROTHAL ARMBANDS I GO FERAL

After the war ended, Sokka goes back and stays in the Fire Nation with Zuko for a bit so that he doesn’t feel so alone up in the palace (totally as buddies and good buds looking out for each other nothing more), and together they work towards remodeling the palace to make it a home. Let the light in, fill it with art, have a variety of colors, and build a little community with all the new ambassadors and staff (and obviously fall in love along the way). THEN after a while of Sokka taking trips back to the SWT, Zuko asks to go with him, and they say “fuck Firelord duties” and spend a lot of time down there. Zuko learns about their culture, and they all work to build the SWT back up again :)

zukka modern au headcanon where druk is zuko’s service dog. he’s massive dobermann pinscher, all muscle and pointy ears and shiny fur and glinting chain collar around his neck; his presence is so ominous, it almost makes zuko’s tall and broad frame feel dainty in comparison. he looks a little bit like zuko: controlled, but sharp and dangerous. zuko thought that getting a scary service dog would prevent others from trying to pet it when they’re outside, and it works. druk not only aids with zuko’s impaired hearing and vision, but he also helps zuko manage his panic attacks and loneliness. it sokka took a very long time to get used to druk’s distrustful growling and alert gaze pinning him down. the absolute command zuko cooly exercises over a creature as terrifying as druk makes sokka drool. it wasn’t until sokka and zuko moved in together, and sokka and druk spent some quality time together alone, man and dog, that they warmed up to each other, and sokka spoils druk rotten.

zuko would do something cute for sokka, like buy him some tea or play a nice song whilst they were cuddling, and sokka would be silent and then out of the blue just start giggling uncontrollably. zuko would ask him "what??" and that charming water tribe man would just turn to him and say "hmm, romance." and continue giggling

Brace yourself, Zukka headcanon incoming in 3…2…1…

Everybody makes fun of Sokka’s drawings when they’re all together, but in private Zuko actually encourages him to keep practising: therefore, Sokka never quits and gets really good at it.

Finally, when he feels confident enough, he asks Zuko to pose for him; the Firelord feels embarrassed and reluctant at first, but decides to give it a try anyway and he sucks at being a model ‘cause he keeps moving (mostly because he wants to glance at what Sokka is doing, but also for the sake of pissing the artist off.)

Anyway, he would soon get lost in the sight of Sokka’s concentrated face: it was the same focused expression he had while planning an attack or strategizing, but there was something different Zuko couldn’t quite understand: maybe it was the way his gaze indulged on the Firelord’s shoulders, wrapped in a see-through red and golden scarf? or the brush he placed behind the ear? Or the messy hair strands escaping his usually perfect ponytail?

(Somewhen, Zuko finally realises it was the caring way Sokka looked at even the tiniest and ugliest bits of him, wanting the canvas to carry all the loving things Zuko couldn’t see and appreciate about himself)

The final results is astonishing. The Firelord is taken aback by the warmth and the glow the portrait emanates, as if Sokka somehow managed to capture his firebending powers in it.

He can’t take his eyes out of it, not really out of vanity, but simply because seeing himself through Sokka’s eyes is way different than looking in a mirror: it was like looking at the best version of himself, the one he always hoped and tried to become, and…

And he is so glad Sokka, of all people, sees him that way. 🩵

Zukka headcanon

After Zuko joins the Gaang, Sokka makes it his personal mission to make him feel more welcome in the group.

Maybe the reason Sokka challenged Zuko to the swordfight was because he wanted him to be more included, but at that point no one besides Aang wanted to train with him? And maybe he arranged for everyone to watch because he wanted to encourage them to also start training with Zuko?

Also it seems that Suki and Hakoda are not here, which means that it's likely before the Boiling Rock. And yet Sokka already trusts Zuko enough to train with him using dangerous weapons, and he already seems pretty relaxed and comfortable around him.

OH boii i sure have,,, nothing coherent is coming to mind atm so ill just expose my Extensive backstories of zukka bethrotal armbands that idk if i will find a way to sneak into art.

sokka’s armband for zuko is forged back at Piandao’s mansion, and it's one of the most fine stunning pieces of jewelry ever crafted. it’s not the usual southern ivory but metal, more similar to the armbands worn as an accessory in the fire nation. it’s made of intertwining bands of gold and black meteor metal, with patterns of waves and dragon scales that seem to ripple and move when the light catches on them just right. and the pendant is a traditional blue stone from the swt.

There are no particular engagement gifts traditions in the fn, so zuko goes on a deep dive into southern water tribe ones, asking sokka’s family and friends about jewelry making and learning to engrave over the course of several trips to the swt. He makes sokka’s armband with ivory from his own first (successful) solo hunt. i’m not sure abt the material of the pendant lmao maybe gold? but amber would also be cool methinks

as for the pendant engraving they display a unique single braincell moment (untrue i just want them to match). love the fact that both of them are sea savvy navigators, love to think that in their pining era they spent a lot of time watching the stars and showing each other the different constellations and navigation pointers of their nations, so in both of their armbands’ stones are depicted the constellation used to guide sailors back home, sokka engraving the swt’s one on zuko’s armband and vice versa.

if they were sun’s out guns out kinda guys before this only gets worse during the first weeks of their engagement. shirts are banned. everyone look at the bethrotal armbands NOW.

Zukka New Year’s Eve headcanon! 🎊🎈🎉

Imagine if you will, it’s 11:59 on New Year’s Eve, and Sokka and Zuko are friends - best friends even - who are attending a party together! They joke around about both not having someone to kiss into the new year, and Sokka suggests “hey, what if we kissed each other? Like just for the ball drop not anything else totally no homo or anything-” and Zuko’s like “yeah totally totally just as friends bros helping each other out”

Jokes on them they’ve both been pinning over each other for months (years even) and were too scared to say anything because they thought the other didn’t feel the same, and end them up kissing for longer than necessary after the ball drop and and are like bro I don’t think it’s no homo anymore…

zukka HCs that hit me in the middle of the night:

- Sokka cooks, Zuko bakes

- caffeine makes Zuko slow down enough to focus but completely knocks Sokka out

- they’re both into skincare, but Zuko is more about long term care whereas Sokka is just a sucker for sheet masks

- Zuko misses having short hair (for the practicality ofc) but he keeps it long so Sokka has something to play with while he’s busy reading

- Zuko actually learns to self-regulate his emotions really well and just stays silent for a while to collect his thoughts, but that all goes out the window when Sokka hits him with a “C’mon, use your big boy words.”

- Zuko gets tension headaches all the time and refuses to do anything about it, but Sokka remembers that the magic combo to make him feel better is a hot bath + ice pack on the head so he always has them ready to go

- Sokka jokes about his trauma, but it makes Zuko genuinely upset (like frowny face, chest poking, pouting, getting in Sokka’s face, and telling him to “stop that!”)

- Sokka loves telling Zuko “It’s a non-bender thing… you wouldn’t understand” (especially when he does something cool with a weapon that Zuko doesn’t know how to use)

- Sokka found out about compatibility quizzes and makes Zuko take them with him all the time but still acts shocked when they get high scores/high compatibility
