not-quite-Homestuck AU news and designs

first of all, big thank you to everyone who's shown support to this silly idea of mine. And yes, it's decided now! it will get made!! The estimated premiere date is April 13 for no particular reason

in the remaining time i'm going to figure out and post the designs for the players and explain some things about this project under readmores. So here goes the first batch!

about the game they're playing:

So first things first, the game i've decided they're going to be playing is basically Double Life²

my reasoning for this is:

it's great at encouraging teamups that wouldn't normally happen

it'll provide great opportunities for randomization and reader input

it was one of the shortest and least populated seasons

i want more of it dammit

but no worries, there will be a new twist or two added :3c and also new people. And all the soulbond pairs will be re-assigned

(this is probably as good of a place to mention that in my version all the players retain memories between sessions. B/c i thought it would be fun for them to have baggage)

My favorite thing about the artifacts for Decked Out 2 is how fitting the lore descriptions are. Like, these aren't just references, they kind of capture the... idk, like the way the other hermits see them? The core of who they are sounds unbearably cheesy

I really want to break down all of the language in these items sometime, but these are the ones that I already have #thoughts on:

Bdubs - "Perfect sleeping every time"

Manages to capture the sleeping thing obviously, but also the goofy overconfidence Bdubs likes to portray- and the high level of skill he really does bring to everything.

Etho - "The one that started it all. Accept no substitutes"

This is such a poignant synthesis of the impact Etho had on Minecraft- easily half the Hermits were inspired to start posting because of him. He's singular, both often a very Hermity hermit and irreplacable.

Grian - "Often misspelled. Never duplicated."

I know it's a grain joke, but to me 'often misspelled' also serves as an antagonistic counterpoint to the second half. He's at odds with people a lot, and they like to tease him, but ultimately his personality and meddling are unique + appreciated.

Joe - "An infinite source of transparent wisdom."

They give a lot of advice + say a lot of 'wise' stuff, but honestly most of it is pretty straightforward. More broadly, Joe may not always be 'wise', but he is an infinite source of help + comforting chatter. (Also, greenscreen/ Jhost joke!)
