Our Blooming Youth (2023)

Synopsis: Min Jae-yi's whole family is murdered, and all evidence points to her, but she is innocent. A clue leads her to the royal family, so she infiltrates the palace to get an audience with the crown prince. The crown prince himself is caught up in a mystery after a curse was delivered to him, and in an effort to prove herself useful, Min Jae-yi helps him solve one of the mysterious happenings in the palace. She promises to help him with his curse, if he lets her investigate who killed her family.

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)

I don't really have anything bad to say about this drama, actually. It starts off really strong and got my attention immediately.

It does maybe feel a bit slow at times, but they make sure to keep you on your toes with clues and hints left everywhere. Sometimes it was a bit confusing to keep up with what was happening, where it was happening and why, because when it's not slow, everything seems to happen at once. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just something I thought about while watching,

I absolutely adore both Min Jae-yi and Garam - the actresses really gave their all, and it was refreshing to see the female leads finally being the ones who do most of the work in the drama. They don't need no men to get through this world as long as they have each other. Showing them both kicking ass, and then fawning over Min Jae-yi's fiancé together later, was really cool. Girls can like pink and pretty dresses and still kick your ass.

There is one thing where I'm maybe a little confused as to how I should classify this drama - because it does feel like they hint of something supernatural going on throughout the drama. There is an immortal fish and something with white hair... and I just don't really know. But in the end, I feel like it can all somewhat be explained naturally, so I chose not to tag it as a fantasy drama.

Lastly, I feel like I have to mention the love triangle, though, to be honest, I'm not sure if it classifies as a love triangle at this point. Either way, it did bother me a tiny bit at one point, but overall it's actually really well executed, and I have no complaints about it.

In the end, I think this drama is a solid 4/5 stars for me. I enjoyed watching every episode, and I can't really put a finger on anything about it, though in the end, I didn't come out of the finale thinking "wow, I really want to watch this again right away."

Though I do have to admit, I have no idea why it's called Our Blooming Youth, when it's more a murder mystery than a coming-of-age drama - which is what I initially thought it was about because of the title.

Age of Youth

I just finished watching Age of Youth/ Hello, My Twenties and it was one of those dramas that will be remembered.

Before, I’ve tried watching it but the 1st episode didn’t really gave an impact on me. So when I saw it on Netflix, I decided to give it another try, since I’m turning 20 this year, I thought that I might relate to it now and it did. Hello, My Twenties is now engraved in my mind.

Age of Youth/ Hello, My Twenties Season 2

First, about the friendship that was shown in the drama is what I imagine of friendship goals. The kind where everyone speaks bluntly and not stab you in the back. Those who care for you and will be ready to back you up anytime. The Belle Epoque house was also very lovely and I’d like to experience living in one someday.

Yoo Eun Jae

At first I saw myself in Eun jae when she started college. I know how it feels not being able to speak up because I was too scared of what might happen. I was too careful and kept my troubles to myself. Like Eun jae, I moved to the city and live in a dorm with 4 room mates.

Jung Ye Eun

Ye Eun was the type of girl everyone gets along with. I saw my cousin (who is also my roommate) in her personality most of the time. She’s very simple and she’s strong. The way she handled her trauma and overcame it without giving up and continued to go to school is what I liked about her. She is always honest and speaks her mind.

Song Ji Won

For most parts, I totally saw myself on Ji Won’s personality. In my group of friends, I’m the noisy one, the one who screams, the one who always jokes around, the one who try to lighten up the mood when it gets intense, the one who never really notices the changes happening around and the one who receives the news last. She’s an angel in the eyes of Eun jae because she’s so kind that she helps everyone with their problems and try to understand their situations without judging them. There’s one thing I like to have from Ji Won though, I wish I have a Sung Min HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Yoon Jin Myung

I can say Jin Myung stands up for the role of being the mother or the leader of the Belle Epoque. Maybe because she’s the oldest, she’s very mature and she takes care of everyone. Before, I used to think that I need to have a lot of friends but then, like Jin Myung, I realized that I only need a few who will really stand beside me to guide me and to be there for me through ups and downs.

Kang Yi Na

I envy her personality. Sometimes I wish that I could also be fierce and caring at the same time. She is always so honest and always stands up for her friends. She’s the type of friend that everyone wants, ready to fight anytime and doesn’t think twice to stand up for you. She maybe very prank but she’s only concerned and thinks what is best for you.

Jo Eun

Eun, the last who joined the group was very shy. I saw myself in her every time she wanted to help but too timid to approach others. I always find myself trying to help others but fails to because I was too shy to talk to them. Eun is very cute and cool at the same time. Specially her relationship with Hoon 😍

All in all, I would rate this drama a perfect 10 in my heart. ❤️

Hello, My Twenties! Ep. 1

Hi all! The drama we’re covering for the next few weeks is going to be Hello, My Twenties!

As always, spoilers ahead! Don’t go forth if you don’t want to know!

!! SPOILER ALERT !! SPOILER ALERT !! SPOILER ALERT !!

Starting with the first episode, this drama is already super charming and interesting. Let’s start with the characters we’ve been introduced to so far,

Yoo Eun Jae

our main character, shy and timid, killed someone?

Kang Yi Na

roommate of Eun Jae, pretty flamboyant, is accepting of her body, two timing her man.

Jung Ye Eun

another roommate, is super annoying, doesn’t obey house rules, obsessed with her boyfriend, bullies Eun Jae sometimes.

Yoon Jin Myung

another roommate, seems mean and rude, but is actually a softie. so far one of my favorite roommates!

Song Ji Won

another roommate, we only briefly met her at the end of the episode, but she definitely seems like the nicest roommate. but she is creepy with the whole “I see ghosts” thing.

Yoon Jong Yeol

potential love interest? seems oblivious, not studious at all, a flirt/player?

Personally, I feel like the main character is very relatable to younger me in the sense that she is super passive and unable to speak up for herself because of it. This was frustrating at times because I would just die for her to speak up about what's bothering her, but at the same time I could feel how she felt at the moment being unable to!

Two of the things that seriously worked my nerves was a few encounters with Ye Eun. The first being when she would eat all of Eun Jae’s jam, and not even ask for permission like that irked me so bad. Then when she left Eun Jae the whole time in the library with her stuff and Eun Jae brought it home!!

“where are you? when are you coming?”

Had that been me, I would have stored my jam in a different container that was disguised as something else, and I would have definitely left Ye Eun’s stuff at the library desk for her to pick it up. Like I don’t know if Ye Eun was actually that oblivious that it would hurt Eun Jae or if she did it on purpose or not, like I’m not grasping that from this first episode?

I did think it was super cute when Jong Yeol went out of his way to return her the pen that he forgot to give back to her, and I love how she was super confident then when he asked her for her name she flattened out so fast.

I also like how they explained the characters and that they are not actually mean, but more so trying to understand how to navigate one another. A pivotal moment in the show I believe was when Eun Jae came home from after the library and she got really sick after the argument she had with the girls so they went out of their way to take care of her. After this I feel like the audience and Eun Jae were finally able to see them as real people with complex emotions which was great.

I was super shocked at the end of the episode though when Eun Jae revealed that she had killed someone. This makes me even more curious about all the flashbacks she's having and why she’s been so sick lately.

Definitely cannot wait to watch the rest of this drama! I’ll keep you guys updated as much as I can!
