Huh, I wonder where they are going with Nicky and Ally. So far it feels like they're copy-pasting Robron with the attempt to steal a car (different circumstances but still), one of the characters being engaged to a woman, interest in Home Farm, and a kiss in the lay-by (and that's the obvious similarities, the more I wonder, the more there is). I hope it's not the case because there is potential there. I honestly wouldn't mind characters being chaotic and a bit devious.

it just feels like after Emmerdale failed with Aaron/Ben & Ethan/Marcus, the writers might want to copy formula that worked in the past. I love Robron but I don't want the exactly same experience.

If ED is trying to do a repeat copy and paste job with Nicky and Ally. By making them a poor man’s Robron.

They might want to bring Ally around more to actually have people get to know the character on his own and with Nicky.

Also have Ally interact with the village, other than people at Home Farm. So not just Gabby and Will. Have Ally make friends with a Dingle like Belle or become friendly with Mack or Victoria for example.

You can’t just have Ally being Nicky’s bit on the side that pops up every now and then. Where they only meet in the shadows.

It would also be good to show Ally and Nicky interacting more. Sure Caleb and Nicky are running a con. But Gabby would be thrilled by Ally coming around more, he’s already shown that he’s a charmer and can easily pull the wool over her eyes and those around him. Ally knew something was on the take, but he didn’t once gave the game away. In fact Nicky was the one who was more revealing that even Gabby picked up on it.

Plus they could hide him in plain sight and have him be the best man having a bit of the groom. I mean it’s more suspicious that Nicky has no one stopping by. No family or mates, he’s a young bloke who doesn’t have connections with other people? That’s a bit odd. Gabby has already shown that she’s super excited about meeting Nicky’s people and being out having fun. Probably cause he’s her partner and it can’t be fun for Gabby to be such a young mom.

He’s a nanny who becomes her boy toy and no one thinks it’s fishy that he’s suddenly gonna be a house husband and cool with that. A friend would be a distraction and make him look like less of a con.

You want to piggy back on one of the most beloved couples of all time from the show. Might actually show the two of them being a couple.

The Old Guard x One piece AU got my brain going brrr and i'm gonna make it your problem now. Center of the matter is I want Zoro and Sanji to meet kind of like Nicki and Joe did (discovering their immortality by fighting on opposite sides and killing each other over and over and then becoming eternal lovers) so I went and did some research for the entire Straw hat crew. Main thing is I wanted to link them to historical events that will give them the right motivations and backgrounds! so here we GOOO

Sanji and Zoro: Because Japan has an isolationist past, the only battle I could find that would work is the Cagayan battles of 1582 in Jakarta between Spanish-Philippine forces vs Japanese pirates (a.k.a Wokou, which are basically pirate ronin) Sanji would thus be a reluctant "Rodelero" sent to South East Asia by his noble family (jokes on them he loves being in the middle of the spice trade and he hates being part of a noble family funding the conquistadores) who one day finds himself fighting a mysterious Wokou samurai Zoro. They're partly isolated from their respective camps when they first kill each other, and again, and again, until they realise they should by all means be dead but they keep healing. After a couple decades of -against all odds- running into each other everywhere, they reluctantly decide to try and figure out what the heck's happened to them together- struggling to communicate at first, then learning each others' language over the following decade, then falling in love and becoming inseparable. This makes Zoro and Sanji both over 400 years old, and they are the same age. Zoro learns about so many sword techniques and Sanji about different cuisines/ leg-centric fighting styles during this time.

Robin as an Egyptian scholar who died during the burning of the Library of Alexandria in 48 BC/ was killed for researching something forbidden during the declining years of the Roman Period (early 200s) and found out she was immortal this way, making her around 2 millennia old. She spends her time recording history and traveling the world and encountering new cultures. Her long time enemy is religious obscurantism, and the Catholic church spends a lot of resources trying to kill her. (they have conspiracy boards about this immortal witch in the Vatican)

Brook: so ancient he doesn't remember much, other that he came from Kerma culture (2500 BC), loved music, and that his entire village had died from an illness, but he came back. His memory isn't great but if there's one thing he's loved in his Millennia of existence is discovering and learning how to play all the instruments that he could find. He mostly hangs in Vienna nowadays as a music teacher.

Jinbei is a Samoan chieftain from around 1000 BC who one day died during a battle with a Fijian chieftain. When he came back from death he assumed Tagaloa chose him. He loves navigating, sailing, exploring and going on voyages with his people. In more recent times (post european contact) he was forced to ally with the US Navy to protect his people.

Nami: Irish lass from around 800 who's coastal, tiny village was about to be raided by Vikings from Sweden. She made a deal with their chieftain Arlong to go with them and map out the British isles for them to help their raids be more effective and targeted, in exchange for not killing people in her village, and that she would make back the plunder they did not get from this town for them. She started to join their raids to try and make this money, but she died in battle. She came back and they believed her to be some kind of Valkyrie or Einherjer brought back to midgard. She took over the raider's leadership- also Norsemen always had women handle money, which works great here. During her time as an immortal she travels, seeks treasure, double crosses people etc.

Usopp a young double agent/CIA spy from the Cold War who died on a mission. He tragically could not return to his love Kaya because he was afraid of putting her in danger by revealing he was alive to the spies that killed him. He relocates and starts anew constantly, his entire life a web of lies. He's a great marksman/sniper.

Chopper died young of the Bubonic plague in medieval Europe. He resuscitated, tragically his father is infected as well and he's unable to save him- motivating him to get to the bottom of this disease, he decides to become a doctor. Looking like a 15 year old for centuries doesn't make this task easy and he has to hide a lot.

Franky is an American veteran of WWI who was heavily disfigured first, and died later (which is why he's not fully healed and needs prosthetics). He's heavily anti-government from having been sent to fight in such a meaningless war that sacrificed young men like cannon fodder. He learned to fix himself up and make prosthetics and masks for veterans, got into making tech stuff

Luffy is a modern, 21st century 20 something year old from Brazil's favelas. He dies in a gun violence incident (maybe linked to a drug war/gang war where he's been trying to protect his neighbourhood) and comes back, experiencing visions of others like him. He's resolute to find them and make a crew, thinking that with all of them together, maybe they can help liberate the world from opressors and inequality

Pop should be stupid

I once described Troye Sivan as emotionally vacant. I stand by that. While his music uses the signifiers of the Emotional Pop industrial-complex - the misty synths and pealing guitar tones, the explosive choruses, the Allie X and Noonie Bao cowrites - his vocal delivery tends toward the soft and whispery, never achieving the kind of cathartic release that this particular strain of pop music tends to reach for. His version of total surrender is synonymous with absence; he needs his inhibitions in order to remind himself that he exists.

In the past, this has made the sexuality in his music feel strangely limp. "Bloom" is supposed to be a bottoming anthem, but its jumbled metaphors leave the impression that he's reaching out for something, anything, to keep from losing himself in pleasure; the chorus' giggly euphemism comes across not as sexy and playful, but solemn, serious, tightly wound. It's the clean and beautiful fantasy of sex, not the weird and goofy reality.

This Troye era seems to be about correcting those faults; the wink-wink nod to poppers on "Rush" felt a little glib, but his straight-to-camera delivery of the line "Man, this shit is so much fun" was right on. He's stepped back far enough from himself to see that two (or more) bodies together means twice (or more) as much insecurity, awkwardness, silliness.

"Got Me Started" goes further, frontloading its silliness with a sample of "Shooting Stars" by Bag Raiders - a song that might be best known to modern audiences (or, at least, to me) as the soundtrack to a Nicki Minaj meme. Looked at cynically, it reads as pandering and tasteless, spoiling the hushed intimacy of the song.

But upon closer inspection, the sample's puppydog goofiness is actually reflected throughout: check the dance move where Troye briefly drops his pants and wiggles his butt for the camera, the whispered "let's go!" before the chorus, the chipmunked vocals, the jittery rhythm. The song is intimate, but it's not serious, and its joy is featherlight. If you laugh at the sample - as I did on my first listen - that's intentional. Sex is funny; it's weird; it's stupid. So is pop.

On queer & under represented characters, why bury your gays is bad...

So, I’ve been thinking on this since the beginning of June. Moreover, why I think it’s important to write under represented characters at large. Why we should aspire for characters of all backgrounds with resilience not defined by their trauma, and why, you shouldn’t people tell you what to write.

1. Minority authors (queers and under represented groups) can write themselves into any fiction they want, and you’re a bad white ally if you say they can’t. ‘Accuracy’ is not the priority, representation is. Of course people should do their research and be respectful but it’s not fictions job to teach you real tangible history or a moral lesson. That’s the job of real life and books written by actual historians and social scientists.

2. “Good representation” is boring! That’s bad! Not to say characters of any background can’t have good traits but they should have complexity, be messy, and in the case of horror, expecting them to be “moral” is wildly puritanical.

3. Don’t like. Don’t read. That’s it, that’s this point.

4. It’s not a “bury your gays” if everyone’s queer, or undead, etc. example: Audrey/her gf Désirée who died in the terror of the French Revolution. Nicki/Lestat (vampire chronicles by Anne Rice) and my current WIP: liaisons x vampires.

It’s not that queer characters should never die, but they shouldn’t be exclusively made for the purposes of killing off to drive plot. As mentioned, it not ’s a “bury your gays” if everyone’s queer.
