and also like. With him talking about how love always ends in hurt and disappointment. Kid had such a devastating romantic experience with Fred that it just like altered his view on relationships. Like having that period of happy young love immediately fall into grief when he thought Fred was dead, and then immediately back into a bitter longing when Fred stopped talking with him…

like it makes sense but. He’s so terrified of them hurting each other the same way that in his mind it’s better for it to end now (possibly disastrously, depending on his methods) than for it to go on and they maybe hurt each other.

but like. He’s not taking into account that the love is already there. And like he KNOWS the love is already there, has seen the way Fit stumbles over his words when he teases him abt Pac, has seen Pac get all nervous and flirty around Fit. But he’s not including it in his calculations.

him breaking them up now is gonna hurt just as much as it would in a week, or a month, or three months. Because they already care about each other so much. And it’s not conditional. And if anything, it’s gonna hurt more because it’s their best friend who’s doing it. Not just them not working out, someone they both care about not wanting that happiness for them.

obviously Tubbo will fail. I don’t think there’s anything he could say or do to put them off with each other. I think he knows that to some degree too. I think he’s already mourning his friendships with them and isn’t ready to admit that. (Denial. Anger. You know the rest.)

And obviously he’s wrong. Tubbo means so much to both Fit and Pac. Helped keep them sane while their kids were missing, gave Fit someone to channel that parental care into, gave him a similar feeling to hanging out with Ramón, and Pac someone to talk to and hang out with and relax with when Mike and Richas couldn’t. He’s part of the family. He’s not going anywhere.

even an illegal criminal organization that practically rules the underworld of london should be able to have fun every now and then, so it’s no wonder someone yells, “THE FLOOR IS LAVA!” any time they have the chance. each individuals reaction vary in many amusing ways — and your poor self ‘coincidentally’ gets dragged in every single time.

ever the slacker, MORAN is always the first to sprint to the nearest table or chair; depending on how hurried he is, he will either grab you and sling you over his shoulder, or pick you up bridal style, there’s no in between. nevertheless, 9/10 you end up in his arms as he tries to get off the floor, because there’s no way he’d leave his babe in lava. (it’s you, you’re the babe).

has an almost unfair advantage over most members due to his agility, FRED utterly dominates this game field — he has never lost the game and certainly doesn’t want you to either. so he grabs your hand and makes a run for it, if you can’t catch up, that’s fine because this guy has more strength in his body that he looks. he isn’t afraid to hoist you up and jump at the same time, of course he always places you on the furniture first, a real sweetheart.

though he doesn’t participate often, considering half the time he has a tea tray in one hand and a platter in the other, LOUIS let’s himself get clambered on as you search for refuge. he can and will balance the dishes whilst letting you jump on him, he refuses to have you stand in lava — this man is the standard, and an absolute gentleman.

another one that has you clinging on to him. WILLIAM is usually situated in his comfortable armchair, sipping on some warm tea when watching the amusing spectacle of the others scrambling across the room in search of furniture. he does not hesitate to let you clamber onto his lap, though his grip on your waist tightens so you don’t slip off.

being the dignified noble he his, ALBERT doesn’t join, instead, he spectates the chaotic scene like a play. but he wouldn’t deny you if you tugged on his arm, not giving him a chance to reply before pulling him on top a table, ‘saving him from the lava.’ he finds it mirthful, his arms will be loosely wrapped around your hips, holding you as you threw things at any remaining survivors.

his unpredictability is terrifying, especially if you’re his lover. unsurprisingly, he’s probably the one that called it out. you can never know whether JAMES will trip you up on his way to victory, or if he’ll pull you along with him. and if you do end up together, he keeps a hand on you, just in case you fall away, ‘a victory without you isn’t a win at all’ are his exact words. he invites you to hit people off their posts (moran), until he randomly shoves you off, as stated, he’s very unpredictable.

despite not having the ability of sight, he’s still very aware of his surroundings, and due to this, his other senses are enhanced. HERDER knows the entire room layout, he also has you to guide him, even though he doesn’t necessarily need it. sometimes, he pretends to be unable to navigate just so you hold his hand, a small smirk on his lips whilst you pull him close to you as you huddle together on one tiny stool. (you definitely notice it, he’s not as slick as he thinks).

MONEYPENNY is your free ticket from the lava, she’s not albert’s secretary for nothing, her position in MI6 is complimented by her physical prowess. as her partner, your safety is guaranteed, even though she herself doesn’t play much, she’ll definitely help you get to safety. although she stays composed, she’s mentally repeating to herself to help you out of the lava. the bae of baes.

THE DETECTIVES:

most of the cases he gets other than from the lord of crime bore him, so it’s no wonder SHERLOCK attempts to satiate his boredom by playing this game. of course he’s already lying on the couch, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes as everyone’s yelling at him to move. the only person he’ll move for is you, he would watch you look around panicking then make a move, becoming you to him and pulls you against his chest.

she’s fiercely competitive in this game, the truth is, MISS HUDSON will help you from the lava as well. whilst waving her pan around, she easily climbs onto the table, taking you with her. she lets you throw the frying pan at sherlock, has a proud look on her face when you do.

this guy low key struggles because he’s too nice to shove someone off, but that’s alright because JOHN has you to do do it for him. with a small ‘sorry’ as you shove people into the lava, he’ll take part in sabotaging others if you ask him to though.

Quick thoughts on two person ships that I've seen in the fics I like or read fics for in both HP and RWBY

Percy x Penelope: I like it it's cute. Ginny catching them snogging would probably have a greater impact on canon if Penny was someone the Weasleys had a vocal opinion of.

Percy x Audrey: It's cute in fanfic. In canon though, it suffers from the thing of canon Audrey is just a name.

Percy x Oliver: This fits into so many of my favourite tropes, it's kind of hilarious. I think this was my first Percy ship.

Percy x Marcus: Character I love shipped with a charater that absolutely would go to hell and back for the other is probably the quickest way to get me to ship two characters and Flintley isn't any different. This is my favourite Percy, hands down

Percy x Anyone in Harry's year or Ginny's year: Not getting into specific ships because this is the most common theme of Percy ships that I end up filtering out. Personally, I only see it happening post second wizarding war after both members have left Hogwarts, and I have to be in a really specific mood to read fics for these types of ships. However, depending on who Percy is shipped with, it can be cute

Penelope x Audrey: I love these two together in fanfic and I love the versatility. If you thought Perciver fit a lot of tropes, then this ship can fit more because again canon Audrey is just a name.

Penelope x Fred: I think my enjoyment of this ship heavily depends on how Fred is characterized. These two in a ship read to me as Bookworm x Prankster, and I'm really not a fan of that trope. It absolutely doesn't help that the twins are tied for my least favourite (I don't hate them but I like the other siblings better) of the book series Wesley children.

Oliver x Marcus: I like the ship, and I think it's a good rivals to lovers ship. I'm pretty sure the only reason I've dropped a FlintWood fic is because I didn't vibe with the non-Flintwood ships in the fic

Ruby x Weiss: White Rose I think is partly as popular as it is because of the thing of pair off the spares. However, unlike a lot of couples I've seen with that thing, their canon interactions are. On the other hand, their canon status of getting partnered during initiation does help their cause.

Ruby x Blake: I know I've said it for basically most of the other ships on the list but it's cute. I think I got into this ship with either a Team RWBY poly fic or a Beauty and the Beast retelling that used Ladybug

Ruby x Jaune: I like their friendship and I think a romantic relationship would be fine. I don't really ship it myself but I can see the appeal.

Weiss x Blake: I like it. However, I think it would be better in the later seasons rather than when they were in Beacon.

Weiss x Yang: Freezerburn, my beloved. I know with recent events, it's absolutely not going to be canon, but imma just vibe with their dynamic with fanfic

Weiss x Pyrrha: I think this is my favourite Weiss ship. There's a possibility of one-sided rivalry to lovers while in Beacon, and I think that's my favourite trope the ship could fall into

Weiss x Jaune: Personally prefer a friendship between the two but the volume 9 white knight moments were cute

Blake x Yang: It's cute. I'm glad they got made canon, and I want to see more cute canon moments between the two if the show does somehow get another volume. In the meantime, I will be chilling with fanfic.

Blake x Sun: Like Bumblebee, its cute. I also don't want to see discourse between it and Bumblebee.

Blake x Adam: The exception to my Blake ships that I've read are cute. The stuff I've read have sometimes had this as a past relationship for Blake and it should stay a past relationship.

Yang x Neo: Would be an interesting friendship post s3 but I don't feel comfortable shipping them romantically with recent canon events even with the Neo age discourse I've seen.

Ok, so if we're under the assumption that Cellbit is the one killing the Federation workers and purposely leaving those messages for Cucurucho, I am (even more) so incredibly excited to see what the eventual "consequences" Cucurucho spoke of will end up being. Even before the murders he was going to face some sort of punishment, but adding on the steadily increasing list of things he is doing to destabilize and spread fear through the working class of the organization, I shudder to think how drastic and hard-hitting that punishment will actually end up being — I am very, VERY curious as to what they have in store for him (hopefully incredibly traumatic with lasting, emotionally painful damage... it's been so long since the feral wet cat has been properly put through the horrors and quite frankly I do kind of miss it).

Man knows he was going to take the fall, actively trying to put all of the blame onto himself to pull the brunt of the consequences of some of the recent major hijinks pulled by his fellow islanders, and now he's using this last bit of time to sow as much chaos and thin the workforce, in a way that would not bring negative fallout on the people he cares about (which Bagi is... kind of complicating as she is trying to do the exact same thing for him) as he goes out with a bang.

Obviously there's more nuances to the situation, with Cellbit definitely also using all this to... let go of his carefully crafted emotional limits (and sanity) for a bit(?), the ongoing actions of the other islanders contributing to the chaos (ex. Etoiles killing like 20 guards in his recent infiltration mission, Quackity kidnapping Fred, Foolish getting stuck in his office for several days making his coworkers think he was killed off too, and Bagi and Roier gearing up to support Cellbit in his killing spree, etc.), Cucuruchito's probable role in temporarily distracting the islanders while the Feds try to wrestle everything under control and deal with the black concrete/missing eggs situation, and more that I can't think of offhand. But, from what I can tell, the Federation is probably the most disarrayed that they've ever been since the players first arrived 7 months ago, and Cellbit is capitalizing off that moment of weakness to magnify the chaos severalfold while getting some revenge in the process before he is once again ensnared by their chains, potentially to a permanent detriment depending on what "consequences" the Federation decides to impose on him.

The first character I first fell in love with:

Depends on if we're doing specifically 2020 Stand or all around. If you asked me for Stands overall, I would say Nick Andros, because I saw '94 first. But 2020 didn't have me hooked until I saw Glen.

Tyrion Lannister always had my heart right from the start. I still want 'Never Forget Who You Are' tattooed at some point, and that was an episode 1 quote.

Willow was my girl from the beginning. The original do I want to be her, or be with her, questioning.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: 

If you told me before that I would be thinking about the Stand every day since I've seen the 2020 version for about two and a half years straight, I would have told you you were full of shit. That's all Glen Bateman's doing. Never anticipated this.

Jaime Lannister. I hated him at the start of it, and dammit if they didn't put him through the shit and make me care about him despite that. (And lets not talk about how pissed I am at his arc ending...)

Eh, it seems like a standard answer, but I didn't expect to like Spike either. But I think that was a surprise to a lot of people, show included, and grudgingly they went with it.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: 

I like all Stand characters, so its like picking the least liked of something you'd still choose over most other things, but I never connected with Larry. I should have, he has qualities that I should have connected with, but I just... didn't?

Similar to the Stand, I like most all characters from this, but have to pick, guess I'm going with.... *crickets sounds in my head*... fuck, I really don't have an answer coming to me.... Bran?

I don't really like Angel. They played the love interest, and I was always 'meh' at best. I even watched Angel too, but I'm going to give credit to Wesley and Fred there (any surprise since I'm using Amy Acker as my main OC faceclaim.)

The character I love that everyone else hates: 

I don't know if this counts, cause overall Lloyd is a very much loved character, but I think '20 Lloyd gets some shit because he is definitely different from the book/'94, but I love him still. Does that count?

Season 6 gets a lot of hate, but overall, I think its my favorite. I also have a soft spot for Jonathan.

Bro, here is your chance to sell me on blue team. Halo 5 was a shitty introduction to them.

Alright. Alright. Since you asked... :3c

Things to know about Blue Team:

"Blue Team" refers to John, Fred, Kelly, and Linda. (And Sam before he died and, for a little while, Kurt, but I'm not here to talk about him.) Blue Team being a set group is kind of a lategame thing because the S-IIs divided themselves up into color-based teams (Red and Green are also reused a lot, Grey Team and Black Team generally had fixed members tho) depending on how they needed to split up for whatever they were doing, but Blue is always the one John is leading personally. Blue Team as we know it is.... kind of a result of how John's team is one of the few groups of S-IIs left alive. 8,)

The first members of Blue Team (besides John, obviously) we're introduced to are Kelly-087 and Samuel-034, and this is on day one of Spartan training. The kids are split into teams and told they need to find their way through a jungle gym obstacle course, and the last team to make it through doesn't get dinner.

John is grouped with Kelly and Sam. John, age 6, was a cocky little shit and a playground bully. He takes off on his own and is the first to ring the bell, leaving Kelly and Sam to struggle along and come in last, which means they're the last team to finish. John sulks about this and studiously avoids Kelly and Sam until they have to do the same exercise again the next day.

It's a good little scene so I'll share it because I care about it.

Sam was strong, self-assured, and became John's usual second-in-command as John increasingly took on leadership roles. He was notably the tallest of them all.

Kelly was smart-mouthed and lightning fast, frequently scouting or acting as bait to draw out adversaries in training exercises. They called this job being the team's "rabbit" and there's a rabbit painted on Kelly's armor in some renditions of her, which is a fun detail.

The latter two members of Blue Team are Fred-104 and Linda-058.

I'll let Nylund introduce Blue Team as they were in John's eyes before their first op, not long after augmentation and not long before the introduction of MJOLNIR armor.

This is, of course, far more than Halo 5 bothered to give you:

Fred-104 I've been talking about a lot lately but: latent leadership potential, higher empathy than average for a Spartan-II, good with knives (as established).

Linda-058 is probably the least developed of the team, if I'm honest, and part of that is because she's quiet and focused and is probably the one that participates the least in Spartan Humor (TM). I think the cutest detail we have about her is that Spartan-IIs really are not much for awards and medals, and the only ones Linda prizes are the ones she's earned in target shooting competitions. (There's also a short comic series about Linda on a mission alone, but I haven't read it yet.)

"Okay, but what happened to Sam, isn't he dead or something?" you may ask. Yes, yes is the answer. While there were Spartan deaths in augmentation, Sam was the first one to die in the field.

Right after the young Spartans were first issued MJOLNIR, they were sent to take out a small Covenant ship. John, Kelly, and Sam made it on board and were working on blowing the thing up.

They succeeded, but something went wrong.

Welcome to one of the foundational traumatic experiences of John's life.

The Spartans were 14 when this happened.

Over the intervening years, Fred ended up taking Sam's old right-hand job.

The next emotionally significant material we get for Blue Team is, naturally, during the fall of Reach. All of the Spartan-IIs that are able to return to Reach are on deck for it. Most of them need to go into the ground fighting, but there's a ship parked in orbit with an unsecured navigation database that needs to be scrubbed and the Spartans also need to deal with that. John takes Linda and a third Spartan (James-005, who is mostly notable for having lost an arm at some point) and designates the three of them as Blue Team for the space op, because it's more dangerous. Fred takes the rest of the Spartans (Red Team) groundside.

All of them would rather go to space though.

(These bits from Fred are from First Strike, where it flashes back to the start of this mess so we can follow Red Team through it.)

Also, here's a good bit with Fred's nerves getting to him and Kelly being supportive. Important To Me.

Insertion gets befuckened and the groundside team ends up having to free fall a long way in just their armor, just about everyone is injured and four die straight up on impact.

Shit goes bad in space, too: James is knocked off into open space and cannot be recovered, and Linda is killed. Literally, Linda is killed. She's clinically dead. John manages to shove her in cryo fast enough there's a slim chance for her if she can get immediate medical help on thaw, but the odds for that are long.

Linda is, extremely technically, there in the first Halo. She's just unseen in a cryo pod for the whole thing. The novel that bridges Halo 1 and Halo 2, First Strike, has John manage to find and recover her cryo pod in an incredible stroke of luck at the very start. John has a lot of Big Emotions about the other Spartan-IIs in First Strike because he has every reason to believe he might be the only one left alive.

First Strike is great because there's a lot of John worrying about his team, desperately wanting a chance to get back to Reach and find out what happened to them, and his relief when they do manage to find some surviving Spartans that got out of that mess alive is great. (And, because they recovered Halsey too, they have a doctor in the house who can stabilize Linda.)

This quiet little moment of the Spartans together is actually one of my favorites in all of Halo. John loves them so much but is also isolated from them, and it just makes my heart hurt. (Also this scene touches on the "does John sacrifice Johnson by letting ONI know that Johnson was rejected by the Flood" subplot which is another important John thing in First Strike, but that's not what this post is about.)

(Also in relation to my complaining about how Troy Denning makes Fred a funnyman: hey, look, the Spartans do bullshit around with each other a little! They're very close! It's just... not the way Troy Denning does it at all.)

John is separated from his team again back on Earth because, you know, the attack on Earth is maximum chaos time and they end up fighting elsewhere. Also, Halsey stole Kelly and fucked off in the direction of Onyx with her, but that's a whole chunk of a whole book.

By the time the battle at the Ark happens, every other Spartan we see in these bits except for John, Fred, Kelly, and Linda is dead. (They're not the only Spartan-IIs left, I forget how many canonical surviving Spartan-IIs we have at that point, but the number is still tiny.)

I was glad to see Blue Team in Halo 5, but also it didn't really do anything to establish who these characters are for the audience besides including some brief dossiers on the Halo Waypoint website.

So, that's Blue Team. I care about them. ;;

First thought was Weasley family circus au where the family itself is a travelling cirrus i have no idea if that's a thing i know most media I've seen is very found family vibes with characters coming into a new family. (or you know abusive situations but I'm electing to ignore those so yes

if it is magic somehow then i imagine it be a situation where they had to run during the first war instead of hunkering down and hiding

eventually figuring out they could make money by putting on shows and it spiraling a bit

but that depends a lot on how you think the statue of secrecy works

i think you could hand wave it by making it something that only matters when using wands which I've seen a few times

so like if they enchant say a balance bar to not have to worry so much about not falling off it since they didn't do that in front of the audience it doesn't count

or

the "if the audience doesn't realize its like legit magic then it doesn't trigger whatever they use to tell its been broken because its just a non issue" method which is also very fun imo though cant say I've seen it very often

so pretty much this is all set up for someone who also has magic

i don't know who because i would want it to be someone who doesn't know Percy but it needs to be some bad at keep their mouth shut i think

and Percy gets a crush and penpal for awhile before he leaves the family behind after a few years because he wants to actually settle down somewhere and stuff still leads to a fight and a strained relationship because of the closer nature of the siblings (and because unlike og in this world Percy's the first to leave)

a smaller secondary concept that crossed my mind was stealing the water transportation from kyo kara maoh but instead of the alternate word being a typical medieval-ish fantasy world its instead still a fantasy world but like Percy taking a bath in the prefects bathroom and wakes up in a circus that is also a kingdom

and now he has alternate vers of a bunch of people he knows wanting his attention due to some vague prophecy nonsense about the one who marries the visitor will prosper but like make it silly

he probably hates how medic is able to have his cake and eat it too (bringing back sniper, coming back to life, his team forgiving/still fighting for him despite everything he’s done all while being able to preform his experiments)

it probably makes it even worse when you consider how his team was falling apart at the end(several of the classic mercs wanting to leave the team and Fred’s whole thing)

depending on what happened to C!medic it can get even more angsty bc like if C!medic died on a mission or smth but tf2 medic was able to cheat death that would piss me off too if i was C!heavy

BUT if C!medic is alive and CHOSE not to return to the team that would also be sad bc he willingly decided to leave the team

either way i think C!heavy’s entire arc in the comics is rlly cool and no matter what happened to C!medic i think him seeing tf2 heavy and medic interact would reopen an old wound/throw salt in the wound

ooo could you elaborate on lalos contradictory traits?

oh certainly! part of what i meant was just, when writing fic, it's easy to fall into characterization traps like character A is outgoing and loud and impulsive! and you go too far in that direction and flatten them out, and basically I think Lalo is a very BALANCED character which is a better description than contradictory. But anyway, elaboration -- this got insanely long and i'm embarrassed so UNDER THE CUT

One, his outward extrovert-ism vs. the fact that he's pretty much a loner without many (any?) strong/close relationships. he acts all personable with everyone at the cartel pool party and especially Eladio but is clearly very insecure about his standing with Eladio (the extravagant gift, nervousness about how Nacho will come across) -- and then once he's betrayed he goes right to "FUCK ELADIO!" loll. It took him a while to warm up to Nacho and even once he did he still treated him more like a chauffeur than a friend... Hector is his closest relationship, and, well. that's pretty bleak. enough said.

+ as a sub-point, his loudness/talkativeness vs. silence, which is something i consciously remind myself of when writing him in fic. let him have moments of reticence and silence, and not always be talking because.. that's how he is in the show. Like his most famous scene is him mostly not saying anything. He's generally pretty moody and I like that these "contradictory" traits basically just depend on his mood, i think that's good character writing.

Two, impulsiveness vs. discipline. Moments of impulsiveness mostly arising from frustration, like when he road-rages the random guy in the parking lot, when he kills TravelWire Fred, arguably Howard, I guess we'll see how that plays out lol. But he's also able to exhibit incredible patience, and spend 4 days in a sewer watching a laundromat through binoculars and he only went slightly insane. and that time it was personal so imo the original all-day chicken farm stakeout is more impressive. he just did that on a whim, basically. wouldnt you kill for that level of focus and follow-through...

Three, and I've talked about this before, IS LALO ACTUALLY CHARMING OR IS HE JUST HOT AND LOUD?! does he actually CHARM people?! in most of his scenes he's interacting with people who already know who he is and therefore 1) are afraid of him and he enjoys making them squirm by being "nice" with a menacing undertone but everyone in the situation knows what's actually going on and it's not "charming," it's basically torture which is, to be clear, VERY hot and funny of him (this is most clearly evident in every jimmy scene), 2) if they're not AFRAID of him, then they're sick of his shit (gus, bolsa, nacho) and Lalo knows this, so he's also not really trying to CHARM them he's just being annoying on purpose, for sport. when he's interacting with people who don't know who he is, there are a couple instances of people finding him a little off-putting and possibly dangerous (fred travelwire got a bad vibe immediately LOL good instincts, also the one staff person at casa tranquila who apparently saw the evil depths of his eyes and got spooked), so i think the only actual instances of him CHARMING people are: Don Eladio*, Margarethe**, and some of the people from his hacienda (but this is sort of complicated since he also gives them MONEY/dental care.. so.) Anyway, we see people being weirded out by/scared of Lalo far more than we see them being charmed by him so I rest my case: Lalo is not ACTUALLY charming, he's just hot and loud.

*Eladio footnote: I think Eladio likes Lalo well enough but at the end of the day it's about money so it doesn't really matter how cute and funny Lalo is :/ I hope Eladio orders/signs off on Lalo's death, btw, this is my top choice ending for him.

**Margarethe footnote: I like to think Lalo overestimated his own ability to charm in this scene. He clearly was expecting to be invited in and WASN'T... he's so used to getting what he wants because everyone is afraid of him/being paid by him that he gets that confused with actual charisma. which he does not possess :/

ANYWAY, yeah, Lalo. he's so sexy and pathetic and weird and funny and off-putting and scary, everybody likes him but nobody loves him, he's the specialest guy in the world to me 🥰

How To Write A Comic Relief Character That Doesn’t Suck

So. We all know the comic-relief character trope. The one who doesn’t do much but tags along because of their “loyalty” and falls on their face every now and then for us to laugh at whenever the tension gets too high. But then at the end they have their heroic moment and prove wrong everyone who ever doubted them! Only for them to go back to exactly how they were before in the resolution. Right?

NO! WRONG! THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE! In this post I’m going to give some ideas of how to add comic relief elements to a story without devaluing any of the characters! First of all, let’s start with some examples! I'll explain most of my choices throughout the post. I'm hoping I provided enough examples that everyone can recognize at least one in each category! I’ve also done my best to make direct comparisons.

No Laughing Matter

It’s great to have a character who struggles with clumsiness or feeling incompetent! But what if you tried actually taking those concerns seriously? Instead of the divert-with-comedy-and-never-readdress approach, make your character turn angry or sensitive. (Or the best of both worlds, tsundere!) Really get into their head and explore how that incompetence is affecting them. Bonus points if they actually fail something of consequence! How do they react to this failure? Do they have people supporting them, and if so, how? And if instead the character is on the outs and constantly the butt of jokes, how does that affect their psyche? Maybe they’ll throw themselves into training or practicing to become better, but maybe all they need is a reminder of where their strengths do lie so that they can use them better to their advantage next time! I actually challange you to separate the klutz character from the comic relief character! It may be funny to watch people falling down on Reddit, but it doesn’t make for a compelling character that people will remember! I love Marinette, I really do, but I have to admit that she could be written better because she falls right into this sort of trap.

Himbos Are People, Too

Okay, okay. I know we all need to have our himbos sometimes. And that’s great! A character who’s a bit out of their element can be endearing for a lot of readers! But in order to get there, the character needs other personality traits, too! Comic relief is not a personality. It’s something you can stack onto a personality, but you need to create a whole character first, complete with hobbies and interests! Which means that, yes, you have to let your character be good at something. It doesn’t have to be the same as their interests, though! This is a great opportunity for a reminder that you can still find joy in something even if you’re not very good at it, and just because you're good at something doesn't mean it makes you happy.

And it should really be more than one thing they’re good at! Don’t write the Ron who’s only good at chess or the Lance who’s only (somewhat) good at flirting!

Tell Me What You Want

This also goes for character motivations! Each character needs to have either a clear motive or a clear lack of motive! Bonus points if it’s multiple complex but identifiable motives! Sokka is a perfect example of this! He wants to live up to the legacy of his father, find his place in the Gaang, and maybe pick up a girl (or a guy) along the way. And most importantly, he uses his humor not as a selfish way to avoid his feelings or for plot convenience but rather to lighten the mood as part of the duty he feels to keeping his sister safe and happy! His Voltron doppelgänger, Lance, has no clear motivation… ever, pretty much. He's implied to like Allura, but it's treated as more of a joke. Same with Ron, or Neville, or Luigi, or even Loki. What do they even want? You could say that Ron saw his greatest desire in the Mirror of Erised (to be recognized and respected), but does he ever take steps toward this? Does it ever even get brought up again? Or was it just meant to contrast with Harry’s greatest desire? After all, Ron ends up as some Auror as an adult but doesn’t show any regret or longing for a higher status.

(Another hint: Not dying is not a character motivation!)

However, I did give another option, which was a clear lack of motivation. We see this in Percy, Reki, and Kai at certain points, and they all express that they don’t understand exactly what they want. And that’s perfectly okay, too! I actually really love writing characters like this! That being said, this is typically a temporary thing, and you should have something in mind for the character’s endgame. I want to stress that this is actually the harder one to pull off correctly, so you can’t just use it as a cop-out.

So yeah, there’s your crash course in character creation and development! Maybe I’ll do a separate post for that in more detail!

According to my Calculations…

Yes, I know that can all feel like a lot. But it's no excuse to fall into stereotypes. Especially this one, which is often done as an Asian-American caricature. Going the other route with a conventionally unattractive, glasses-wearing, acne-having white kid is bad, too. It's cringe. It's harmful. Don't do it.

And this goes not just for the stupid-nerd caricature, but also for any other stereotype out there. This one is just the most annoying one I can think of.

The Loyal Lapdog

Another sort of random trope is justifying a bland character by claiming that their virtue is their "loyalty." If you're going to use loyalty as a personality trait, be very careful about it. You have to be committed to upholding that personality trait even if it messes with your plot. You don't want to end up like Ron, who is actually arguably one of the least loyal characters in the series, abandoning his best friends in an apocalyptic situation just because he was jealous and constantly getting in fights with Harry over things out of his control. It is good to test and even break the limits of your character’s loyalty, but if they give up at the slightest inconvenience they’re clearly not actually loyal at all. (I’m sorry I bash Ron so much. It’s not what it sounds like, I actually hate him much more than I’m letting on.)

Comedy Communism

Guess what? You can have more than one character be funny! In fact, why not make all of them funny? Even your dark, serious character can be accidentally hilarious, and Skull is a pristine example of this. And giving a brooding loner character a surprise one-liner can be a great way to mark character development as they become more comfortable in their environment.

Overall, spreading out the role of comic relief across multiple characters is just a plain good idea because it forces you to fully develop each character and makes your comedy less predictable.

Or here’s another idea: make the comic relief character the protagonist! It’s an unexpected move that Percy Jackson pulls off immaculately! It’s also another strategy to help you avoid writing flat comedic relief characters because your protagonist should be the easiest character to fully flesh out.

Don’t Ruin the Moment

Using comedy to lighten the mood can be a good thing, but it has a time and a place. I've seen so many truly moving, deeply emotional moments completely gutted by a stupid joke. It's so devastating to see a writer put in all this effort to build up to a big moment, only to ruin it. It’s up to you to decide what counts as a “big moment,” but once you decide, fully commit to it. If you really feel like it’s too much for the reader, you can use a scene break, which will provide relief to the readers with less bleeding over of the lighthearted mood into the serious part.

But it can also be hard to maintain that tension, especially if a comic relief character is involved. Having them tell a joke that falls flat can actually be a great way to further increase the tension while staying in character!

Your internal clock regulates the actions and behaviors of different parts of your body, and if you disrupt it, it can interfere with your daily activities. What is a biological clock?This question has probably been on your mind: What is the body's biological clock? Do we have clocks in our bodies? What does the biological clock do? What is the body's biological clock?

Three researchers have been awarded the Nobel Prize for work that helped us understand the biological clock, or clock, of each cell. The Nobel Prize Committee said of the work of Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael Young: . Hormone levels, sleep, body temperature and metabolism. Humans are time sensitive machines. Also, in order for our body clock to work harmoniously, it appears that we need to sleep and eat at regular times. Studies show that when you interrupt your body's natural sleep and wake times with activities like night shifts, intercontinental air travel, or sleeping through the night with your baby, it pays off. The body's biological clock, or body clock, regulates this circadian rhythm and is present in all organisms. Every cell and organ has a biological clock, a protein located in these cellular structures. This molecule is found in a variety of organisms such as humans, fungi, bacteria and plants and serves as the body's biological clock. What is a Bodymaster watch? Lightning Era

Harry Potter

Harry is always a little shocked when you hug him, unless you two are super and close and he’s used to you and your physical affection towards him.

Even then, he still stiffens with surprise when you reach forward to hug him, but he always eases into it quickly.

At first, you would always be the one to initiate the hugs shared between the two of you, but after he realized how you showed love physically, he would tend to be the one reaching out for you far more than you did, just to see you happy.

Harry usually hugs you tightly, almost as if he’s afraid to let go of you. He’s lost so many things and people important to him during his life, so he always wants to show the universe he has a tight grasp on you and is unwilling to let you go. 

Because of this, there’s always a semi-protective and territorial aura behind his hugs, but you don;t mind, it’s very comforting regardless.

Harry normally rests his hands on your lower back while hugging, and lets you go with a loving pat in the same region.

Ron Weasley

Ron is a tall person, so he usually has to lean down to accomplish a comfortable hug with you. Because of this, his hands usually roam before resting across the middle of your back while yours stay atop his shoulders.

He’s from a huge family, so he’s very experienced and comfortable with hugs. He usually knows exactly where to rest his hands depending on the situation.

Normally, regardless of the timing, Ron likes to overwhelm you with bear hugs. In doing this, He’s non verbally telling you that he cares deeply about you, and wants to protect you.

If there was a word to describe the younger Weasley’s hugs, it feels like home.

With Ron, there’s just so much coziness and you feel so protected in his arms.  

At the end of your hugs, Ron likes to give you an extra squeeze so he brings you even more both physically and emotionally closer to him.

Ron also likes hugging you from behind so he can have access to your cheek, which sometimes he likes to rock you around in his arms for a second before he shyly places a kiss on your face

Cedric Diggory

Cedric loves hugs. Even if you like them a lot and tend to initiate hugs a lot with your loved ones, in your and Ced’s relationship, Cedric almost always starts the hug.

Cedric like exchanging the very intimate hug and reserved type of hug with you where he clasps his hands around your waist and leans his head in the place between your neck and shoulder.

The amount of enthusiasm Ced puts into his hugs depends on how long ago he’s seen you.

“Love! It’s been forever!��� Cedric rushes over to pull you into an embrace for the first time since the two of you had just left the train station for your winter break. He rushes towards you as you almost crash into him, him swiftly catching you and pulling you into a tight hug, picking you up slightly before setting you down to greet you.

“Hello there, flower” Cedric looks up from his book at his place on his bed as you drop your books on his dorm room floor.

“Ceddy.” you exhale tiredly as you shuffle your robes down your shoulders before climbing into bed with him, Cedric opening his arms promptly.

You trudge forward before falling on top of him as the two of you let out a giggle as he rubs your back consoling, nestling his head on your shoulder.

George Weasley

George thoroughly enjoys to hug you from the waist, even if your just friends, and in that way that prevents you from moving away from his grasp.

With that, he can do whatever he wants to you because you’re immobilized. During this time, he likes to tickle you or whisper sweet or silly things in your ear to get you jumpy. He loves to see your reaction to his antics and never gets tired of it.

There’s always a sense of relief George gets from your hugs, as if when you two are locked in an embrace he relaxes into your torso and lets out an almost inaudible sigh of comfort, which sends a tingle of happiness down your spine when you his warm breath tickled your hair.

If the two of you are close enough, George likes placing a small but meaningful kiss on your cheek before pulling apart, just to really show you how much he loves you.

Fred Weasley

Frederick Gideon Weasley is the king of hugs. There’s no doubt about it.

Fred has a special thing he does to you in particular where when he’s hugging you, he tends to let you leap up into his arms, or he picks you up in his arms himself and spins you around for a second before setting you down.

He likes doing this because hearing your cheery giggles and squeals when he captures you in his arms and swings you around.

While embracing, Fred likes to cup his hands around your bum, as long as you don’t mind and are comfortable with it. If not, he wraps his arms around your waist while you hang off of his shoulders.

Fred is also one of those guys who just love bear hugs.

He engulfs you in his long arms and squeezes you so tightly to his chest you can barely breathe. Even though it tends to be a tad rough, it’s just the way Fred shows his affection through hugs, so you’ve gotta live with it.

Fred also likes rubbing his cheek against your hair or even your face while you’re hugging.

Draco Malfoy

Draco is a reserved person by nature,even with his loved ones. He grew up without a lot of attention, even as an only child because his dad was somewhat cold to him and always busy with work, while Narcissa had the role of taking care of the family and bonds with the other Sacred 28.

If you’re not big with physical affection, Draco won’t try to force it on you, since he’s not that much of a fan of it either. He shows his love through other forms of affection, primarily by telling you words of affirmation such as, ‘You’re my everything, I love you, y/n or I couldn’t do this without you.’

However, if you do like physical affection, Draco will do everything in his power to start to like it to, just because he loves you that much.

The hugs the two of you share start of somewhat one sided, where you rush  to throw your arms around him while he stands there and stares at you.

But after some time, Draco will ease into the hugs and be comfortable with your overdose of affection, leaning into your hugs and placing his arms around your lower back.

Eventually, Draco will even initiate the hugs, and wraps his arms around your waist like a pro while you dangle off his shoulders, him kissing the top of your head and rubbing your back gently.

very few could say they knew someone for forever, someone that knew their weaknesses and helped turn them into strengths. though they, they were the lucky ones. or unlucky ones, depending on who you asked. cedric and her had been inseparable the moment their parents introduced them when they were children.

from then on she always had someone to pick her up when she fell off the swings, a shoulder to cry on and someone who listened unconditionally when it seemed like the voices drowned her. she was lucky to have him.

she brought out the best in him. everyone expected him to be everything all the time, but with her he could be vulnerable. he felt like he could breathe when she was near. he had to see her fall in love with some of the guys in the castle, and then be there for her when it all fell through. he was just never that lucky to have her. at least not completely, she had the best of his moments. when in fourth year his friends teased him for never having had his first kiss she was the one to pull him in by his jersey after winning the first game of the quidditch season, the light drizzle sticking to their hair and making the whole thing seem like a dream to him. she had his first dance at their first ever ball. and most of all she had his heart hanging off a thread on her pinky finger, yet he was never lucky enough to have her completely.

he was resigned actually, no longer eager for the next time she came running to his arms after she realized the last guy wasn’t what she wanted, much less deserved. an eagerness that he knew was wrong and completely selfish but he couldn’t seem to deny. he liked being the guy that lit her those vanilla candles she loved so much and held her through the night.

he didn’t know what deity he had to thank for putting them together in every single class for the past six years. but there he was, letting her draw some sort of happy face kaleidoscope on his hand as he just looked at her with some stupid grin he could never wipe off when they were together. looking at how the tip of her tongue stuck out in concentration and then down to the crystal hanging around her neck. remembering how one saturday she just dragged him to the lake to look for crystals. one of the last days of the summer, the morning sun keeping them warm but not sticky with sweat. the wildflowers around them made the air sweet and the soft swishing of the water in the river filled up their comfortable silence making everything perfect. if he were asked what he thought heaven was like he would think that’s the closest it could ever get. or maybe it was all perfect because he was with her.

he wasn’t surprised when she had to bring him back from his daze and put him to work on the potion slughorn had just spent the last 10 minutes explaining. he was eager to finish brewing the concoction, amortentia was one of their biggest projects of the year. but that was not what motivated him to finish it, neither was it finding out what he was going to smell. he knew exactly what his heart desired, and was not surprised when he smelled vanilla, soft rain and wildflowers. his eagerness was to discover what she was going to describe the potion to smell like. he hoped her heart’s deepest desires pointed towards him like a compass pointing north. he was about to ask when hermione granger, somehow managing to take classes above her level, turned around and asked herself.

he pretended to write some notes on his notebook when he was really waiting for anything that would hint at her fancying him the way he wished she would.

“we must’ve fucked it up because it smells like nothing” and she snorted like it was the funniest thing ever. their conversation carried but he was no longer interested on any sort of gossip the griffindoor carried. he knew the potion had worked, so either she was sick and her nose was all messed up or just didn’t fancy anyone at all. she could’ve also been lying, was it for his sake? did she just not want to share any more fragments of her love life with him and she decided to lie about this to keep some secrecy? was it someone he knew? was it one of their friends? had he introduced her to them?

class ended and the day flew by, whenever she asked about his change in demeanor he brushed her off with a smile and assured her it was all fine, “just tired ‘s all”

he wanted to go down to his room and read, alone, as soon as the school day was over. but he had promised to go with her to this tree they always hung out in when the day was nice. she was talking about things she had noticed throughout the day and when he zoned back into the conversation their tree was closer than he realized and she was talking about potions class.

“i swear i was keeping an eye out for you. i was worried you were sick because someone had slipped some amortentia on your water or something. i mean im surprised no one did” and she sat down leaning on the trunk of the tree. “anyways you never did tell me what it was your heart’s deepest desires were. or who is it that that is for that matter” she was taking some colored pencils out and it seemed like the whole thing was humorous to her. but the question had struck him, she was lying back in class.

she had taken his silence as a cue to keep her chatter going. not paying any mind to how he still hadn’t sat down. “i heard someone say how when slughorn showed the class below us the potion just as a heads up for next year cho chang said she swore she smelled you. i didnt know you guys were that close” and she wiggled her eyebrows at him while taking out some sketch book from her bag. she was really trying to joke with him right now. “she’s really pretty-“

but he cut her off. “why would you lie?”

“i swear! hermione told me all about it after i ran onto her in the bathroom before potions class started. i mean you have been tutoring her for a while now so i don’t know how you didn’t see it coming”

he was silent for a second and she grew uncomfortable of his gaze just lingering. standing up as he started again.

“we didn’t fuck up the bloody potion. but you told granger we did, why did you lie?”

she looked at him for a couple seconds and then laughed. “come on ced, slughorn said the thing was perfect. don’t worry about the grade”

“this is not about a mark and you know it” his tone was so serious it was bordering into stern. it was like his patience was growing thin but she didn’t know what to say, so she just shrugged and looked away.

“didn’t feel like talking about it then”

“we can talk about it now”

“it looks like there’s rain clouds coming”

“what are you trying to avoid?”

she just went to pick up her book, stuffing her things back into her bag. she started the walk back to the castle making him scoff and follow her lead.

“why don’t you want to talk to me?” to her he still sounded defensive. but he was trying his best to mask his vulnerability.

“i do want to talk to you ced. just not about it right now”

“was it someone i know? was it fred? i heard he’s with angelina so that’s a dead end you know”

“cedric just drop it”

“so it was him then”

she groaned and turned to look at him, breaking her stride. her face was burning with what he saw as anger.

“why does it matter so badly to you cedric?”

the thunder quickly ate up the good weather they still had and the air turned chilly. how fitting.

“it just does and i want to know”

“it really doesn’t matter to me and it shouldn’t to you either” she was upset about it, maybe her feelings for fred were far deeper than he could guess. he was aware of their friendship, but he never knew how close they had grown to be. maybe him being a tutor pushed her to finding someone new, some new more interesting friend. “i really don’t get why you’re blowing this to be such a big deal when cho-“

“it is a big deal to me” he chuckled and he saw the drizzle before he could feel it. “it’s a big deal to me when all i could smell on the thing was wildflowers and fresh rain” he let a breath out, his voice lowering back to its usual tone. no longer exasperated but tired. “fresh rain and vanilla”

she just stood there. quiet. looking at him. a couple steps and he had broken the distance between them. placing his hands on her shoulders and running them down to her hands.

“so please, just please tell me what it was for you”

“lilacs” she looked up at him and met his gaze. the flowers his mother had planted around the swing sets were lilacs, the flowers she tucked on his suit pocket on their first dance were lilacs. but he still couldn’t let his heart jump to conclusions. she took in the silence and looked forward, staring at his chest rather than looking at him in the eyes. the blow was coming. “warm sheets and fresh rain”

she smiled at the irony of the drizzle that covered her hair at the moment and dared to peek at him from under her lashes. he was puzzled by the last one. she kept looking down at his hands holding hers.

“that was my first kiss too you know, you never really asked and i guess i never told you. but i knew you were tired of everyone teasing you for it so i guessed you wouldn’t mind as long as you got it over with” she was rambling and he smiled. the rain coating her lashes reminded him of the first time, he let go of her hand and took her chin between his pointer and thumb. tilting her head up to look at him, moving his hand to run through her hair and finally cupping her face. running his thumb over her cheek. it was like he was getting a do over, and he wanted to take his time this time around. she looked into his eyes and then glanced down to his lips. he didn’t waste more time before his other hand flew to the free side of her face and his lips were on hers. her hands on his shoulders pulling him impossibly closer to her.

he cursed his lungs for preventing him from staying there, causing him to pull away slightly. she opened her eyes to see him looking at her already. he took in how the water droplets stuck to her hair and the smile that danced on her face.

her eyebrows shot up a little “took you long enough” her teasing smile made him let out a loud laugh.

he hummed and nodded. feigning seriousness “maybe” he looked at her with a teasing smile of his own. “but not nearly as long as it took you, now did it”

her eyebrows shot up and she let out a surprised laugh. he admired her for a second more before he leaned down to kiss her again. missing how she quickly ducked and escaped his grasp. starting to sprint through the grass towards the castle. he chased behind her as they both laughed at the water splashing around their feet and starting to soak them up slowly. she looked back at him and playfully screamed, booking it through the courtyard and slipping past the few people that were still out enjoying the soft rain.

their friends quickly spotted the pair, not surprised by their behavior but intrigued as to what had caused the giant to chase after her through the rain. watching as he was catching up to her when she had almost reached the group, which was seated waiting for them next to one of the arches surrounding the courtyard. staying safe from the rain under the roof. they all playfully looked at her catching her breath, not amused at all by their games when he reached her. hair sticking to his forehead and robes drenched just like hers. she yelped as he picked her up and spun her around, their friends getting ready to listen to whatever story was behind their chase.

the story telling itself when he set her down softly and pulled her in for a quick kiss. their bubble of happiness not popping but encasing all of their friends as well. no questions were needed, the happiness just flowed and bubbled.

he swung his arm over her shoulders. pulling her into his chest as she started the conversation back up. everything had fallen into place for him, and now he could light up candles and tuck her into bed not because she had another unlucky shot at love. but because he was finally lucky enough.
