the discord brainstormed a "HoO plot but better" au where it's more focused on being the Gigantomachy + The Odyssey (like how the first series was primarily the Titantomachy + The Iliad, particularly TLO) rather than the awkward Gigantomachy + 7 Against Thebes + Argonauts juggling, and i literally have not stopped thinking about it since. someone remind me to explain it at some point because i'm obsessed with it. it's just extremely fun.

Look don’t get me wrong I love the PJO TV show. The cast is perfect and some moments that were added I absolutely loved. But… there are some things I felt were so well done in the book there was no need to change it and I’m a little disappointed by the adaptation’s version.
Some of these takes I saw from other people and it put into words what I was feeling so I’m just expanding on what they said.
1. Gabe could’ve been worse. We are supposed to get mean Smelly Gabe vibes and Sally isn’t supposed to feel comfortable standing up to him. I understand “girl boss” and disneys restrictions but it still wasn’t great. I’m hoping they add something towards the end so his murder feels deserved.
Edit: upon a rewatch I take this back and believe Gabe was still abusive, if not physically as in the book, but as manipulative and demanding which is still abuse so I actually appreciate the changes they made now.
2. Sally felt off. Like they read her plot points but didn’t understand her character. She is wholesome and kind and devoted to Percy. The Sally we know never would’ve put that much pressure on Grover, plus him putting the pressure on himself is vital to his character. They also made her seemingly pine for Poseidon. They shouldn’t have changed the way she described her relationship with him and the choices she made to keep Percy safe. (I will say though that the Jesus joke was perfect and hilarious)
Edit: upon rewatch I still believe the wholesomeness was lost a little but I have come to like her character more and think these changes allow for greater depth into Sally’s story which I’m excited for.
3. We should’ve gotten Percy remembering the warm glow of Poseidon. I thought it was important that Poseidon broke the rules and came to see Percy when he was a baby and had that memory.
4. Percy thinking that Annabeth looked like a goddess when he first saw her was so cute and said a lot about how he viewed her. I think they should’ve kept it.
5. I think Luke being the one to guide Percy around the camp was a great choice, but Annabeth should’ve been part of welcoming scenes. And Grover should’ve been the one to tell the story of Thalia.
Edit: Episode 3’s reveal of Grover’s story was genius I take this back!
6. The claiming in the book was perfect! There was no reason to change the dialogue or have the trident not be the way it’s originally described. And seeing the campers reactions/having them bow down was important. I was underwhelmed tbh.
7. Percy is SMART! He was the one to put together that Sally was alive and agree to the quest in order to get her back. There was no reason for Grover to be the one to do it.
Otherwise it was wonderful. I still love it immensely and the care into the heart of the show I feel is still there. I can’t wait for next week!
And yes, I know Rick wrote the episodes and was a part of every single choice that was made so if he wants to leave something out obviously he knows his story the best this is just my opinion.

I was thinking about the Percy Jackson TV show and it just occurred to me that a few of the changes they made in season one, even though didn’t exactly please me, will allow the following seasons to be more book-accurate and in depth.
One example is the fact that we already have Luke’s background. We know why he left home, so now the show can actually SHOW us Luke and Thalia’s life on the road by flashbacks, instead of Annabeth telling the short version (how it is in the books). They can actually dive into Luke’s character and make him more three-dimensional, something that the series lacked up until the very last book when Rick had a “oh my gods I’m about to kill this character and I didn’t even give him a last name” sort of moment.
By fleshing out Luke’s character so thoroughly they can also give Thalia a greater importance than she had in the books. I was never particularly sold to her and Annabeth’s relationship because Annabeth never actually TALKS about her except for very few and brief moments during SoM. They now have the perfect excuse to show more of her (again, in those flashbacks about their time on the road) to build up her character so people will actually like her and understand why she is the way she is during book three. I’ve known plenty of people, including myself, that didn’t vibe with her during TTC for this exact reason: we were never given context about her. We don’t even know what made HER leave home until Heroes of Olympus.
Sally’s relationship with Poseidon being explored will make Paul even more important than he already is. For Sally to finally open up to a man again, to finally be able to love and trust someone other than Percy, is a HUGE deal now. Because we know she carried those unresolved feelings for Poseidon for the longest time and meeting Paul is what finally makes her let go of him.
I also think the show is building up the gods little by little. At first it would seem like they’re all bastards that hate mortals and should be guillotined, but then we get Hephaestus helping them because he wants to be different. Then we have Poseidon helping out Percy even though he wasn’t asked (in the books, Percy prayed before jumping from the arch) AND even helping out Sally by giving him an extra pearl. We will probably have, through flashbacks, Athena guiding Annabeth when she left home, and Hermes wanting to help Luke escape his fate is already a big deal. Instead of first seeing the gods as perfect creatures and later finding out they’re just as flawed as mortals, we’re doing the opposite: at first we think they’re trash and understand Luke, but little by little we are shown that, flawed as they are, most of the gods still try to do their best for their children. Except Ares, the little fucker.
All this long ass post to say: maybe we shouldn’t criticize the show so harshly before being able to see the bigger picture. Maybe we should give them some grace and time to cook.
Also: I know some people think they're being too forward with Percabeth, and to those I say: reread the books and use your critical thinking skills. But that's a subject for another post.

The fixation Percabeth shippers have on Annabeth being blonde is creepy as fuck.It was one thing when all we had were white versions of her but now that Leahbeth is a thing,it's just plain racist. You can't say you support Annabeth being black if you erase Leah's features-There's no reason for her to be blonde and i do mean NO REASON.All book Annabeth's blondeness did was add on to her already white feminist writing-Remember 'I'd be taken more seriously if i had dark hair :('?-and by letting Leah look like herself, they're taking steps to fixing it and making Annabeth an actual feminist character instead of a pick me gf.No,i do not care that you do it because you think 'Percy has a thing for blondes' because guess what bitch, that's not only racist too but also misogynistic!Annabeth exists outside of Percy you backwards ass weirdos. Also she's a lesbian so she dosen't want Percy to begin with send post

Ayyyy, the Arch, I've been there!
Also I get what they were going for with the Arch being an Athenian whatchamacallit, but I miss Annabeth slightly derailing the quest to visit it for personal reasons - her love of architecture is such a nice character detail, and her determination to detour to a monument felt very age-appropriate, and this version of Annabeth I think needs more moments that remind the audience that she's literally twelve because in some ways (in my opinion) she seems more mature than her book counterpart, likely because we're no longer limited to witnessing her through Percy's own relatively immature POV

Just finished watching Disney’s Percy Jackson. SOOOO much better than the movie!!!!….
1) CGI is kept to a merciful minimum, with plenty of cool practical effects and set design.
2) The few CGI scenes looks pretty realistic, one of the rare cases where barely-visible CGI actually makes the story better. Adds a layer of extra mystery. The Minotaur scene gave major Jurassic Park vibes.
3) The Camp Half Blood cabins are god-tier set design. Each one has a bold unique look , on the inside and outside. It reminded me of the different magical rooms from Encanto. You could easily tell just by looking which god each Cabin represents, without being told.
4) There’s a much greater sense of danger when the monsters look more real (again thanks to minimal CGI) and the kids in danger are much younger than the 17 year olds in the movie.
5) Percy’s godly abilities being much more ambiguous helps strengthen the author’s intended neurodivergence allegory. Is Percy really a demigod? Or is Percy just seeing things? And unlike the movie, we see his godly powers long BEFORE finding out he’s half god. Which means just like Percy, we’re also wondering what the heck is going on.
6) HUMOR. I actually laughed out loud. Especially during Episode 2.
7) Sally Jackson is a badass with a personality !!! Unlike movie Sally who sounds like she’s just reading her lines all in one take, Sally shows so much real emotion in every little tone and action. She’s not going through the motions, nor is she overacting. When she says she understands and cares about her son, she SHOWS that. Also a major badass in how she not only stood up to Gabe, but also helped defeat the Minotaur. Movie Sally’s “sacrifice” was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This Sally truly sacrificed herself , by deliberately putting herself in danger as it’s the only way to keep her son alive. (Seriously this is how I want Mary Penelope Windsnap to be played too).
7) None of that rushed contrived enemies-to-lovers BS between Percy and Annabeth. This show cleverly subverts the trope. While Percy dislikes Annabeth, Annabeth likes and helps Percy but only for her own selfish reasons.
8) Gabe is a much more subtle asshole. He’s still an asshole, but no immediate threat to Percy or Sally so it’s easy to see why Sally stayed married to him. In the books she married him to keep Percy safe, but that’s hard to believe in the movie version when Gabe gets physical with Percy.
Will definitely stay tuned for more episodes.

Y'know, I've seen a bunch of fanarts and also a couple of fics where Poseidon from Epic the musical gets isekaied into the Percy Jackson show and the god just kinda adopts Percy and now there's just 2 poseidons running around the world, which are Great and very funny, but a concept I haven't seen is Book Percy getting isekaied into the show.
Like, fully grown, college age, fought and won 2 wars, could and Would fold Zeus like a lawn chair with zero hesitation, Book!Percy getting sent into the world of the show and getting to meet this weird, alternate reality where things and people are like he remembers them being but just slightly to the left: Grover is more confident in himself, this weird toddler version of himself with blonde hair keeps butting heads with Annabeth because of their beliefs and not because of who their parents are, and then just Luke, Good God Luke. Percy would have a mental breakdown over the differences between his Luke and the show!Luke alone.
Just, veteran book!Percy, who just really wants a break from the bullshit, getting thrown into the beggining of the camp, seeing everything begin to unfold and having the same nervous breakdown we are all having by watching the show of "Oh my god they are all babies"
Like. I think it'd be neat for a crackfic. You could get around the "But he knows how things are going to end!" by the fact that no he doesn't, he knows how they happened on his side, but on his side he didn't have any guidance, on his side Luke wasn't kind, on his side Sally Jackson didn't attempt to fight the Minotaur like a matador. Percy can make an educated guess about how things will unfold, but he can't be sure, the best he can do is help train and then protect the little toddler versions of himself and his loved ones that they are sending on a quest. Due to timing he is aware that it would be extremely fucking sus if there were suddenly Two sons of poseidon just cassually walking around, so after a quick talk with Chiron and Mr.D to catch them up (Not to ask permission, just to give them a heads up) if anyone asks he's just a weird minor ocean god gone rogue who wants to be a good, reasonable older brother

ok so bianca lives au!
the stress of being inside talos causes bianca to accidentally shadow travel (which explains the lack of a body)
talos is defeated, just to clarify
the quest continues on, zoe dies, and percy gets back to camp and tells nico bianca is dead
nico in this version denies it because he can feel that she isn't, but the rest of that interaction follows canon
so meanwhile bianca is in the underworld and when she figures out how to control her shadow travel she gets back to camp the day after nico leaves
unfortunately she can't do much to help find him, but she does search while also rejoining the hunters
eventually she realizes he's in the underworld, but minos leads him away before she can get there
after that it's a game of cat and mouse
nico has been convinced that he's wrong and she's dead because that serves minos' goals better
so she tries to find them, minos keeps moving away, this goes throughout the labyrinth
at the same time annabeth, percy, grover, and tyson are on their quest and have been told to keep an eye out
they see nico at the ranch and try to tell him, but he refuses to listen
after percy kills geryon, annabeth manages to send an iris message
bianca shows up, there's the reunion/explanation, nico hates percy less, and since now he has a whole reason to not trust minos, he sends minos away.
nico doesn't want to go back to camp atm, so he stays at the ranch and bianca sticks around too
then the quest continues, calypso's island happens, annabeth and percy go back in with rachel's help, etc.
bianca shows up and helps them in daedalus' workshop (nico didn't have enough control to properly return minos to the underworld so he ended up sticking with some chthonic kids from the ta)
they escape, go to camp, where nico and that immortal ares kid who's name i don't remember join them, as do the hunters
so castor doesn't die
lee still does because reasons
tlo goes more or less the same except more powerful demigods = less deaths
also hades favors bianca so she stays in the underworld freeing up nico to assist the others
plus bianca and hades, demeter, and persephone show up earlier
alabaster will probably work his way into this b/c i love him
and he is a chthonic kid so maybe...
so there you have it! bianca di angelo lives. she's also scary.

PJO Rewatch
Ep3 We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium
-The Minotaur horn being kept in the attic instead of Percy keeping it with him. At first, I didn't like this change (I didn't really have a reason for not liking it). But now that I've thought about it, I really like it. I think it shows how uncomfortable Percy is with his new situation and seemingly new powers (so uncomfortable that he keeps the reminder of his mom's disappearance somewhere he'll never see it). But the horn being kept in the attic also shows how little agency he has right now, something that is rightfully his is being kept somewhere else. Who knows if he had a say in that? Or maybe I am reading too deeply into that, idk.
-The oracle speaking through Gabe's image is not something I like (it spoke through Gabe in the book but Percy makes a point to say that it's not speaking in Gabe's voice and is very spooky). It's very goofy in the show. My theory is that a version that was closer to the books was too scary and Disney asked to have it toned down. Who knows if that's actually what happened, but that is my theory.
-'Someone who wouldn't hesitate to push me down a flight of stairs.' Perfect foreshadowing. Also, Chiron knows FOR SURE that Annabeth would push someone down a flight of stairs (she tried to later on, so he was correct)
-Percy and Grover (my boys!! ♡♡♡♡♡) I hope they get more screentime in coming seasons than they did in the later books.
-Grover Underwood you will always be famous ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ my goat son
-"I think they're Canadian, maybe... or from Chuck E. Cheese" those are drachmas son (to be fair, i probably would've thought they were chocolate)
-"You told me you'd be on her side no matter what." Uhghhrhrhhdghhhhrr Percy saying that to Luke? I'm going to die
-"Her satyr protector tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen" my poor boy, he still feels so guilty about that. It's not your fault Grover! Blame stupid Zeus...
-"I don't think you should just get to decide we don't vote." "I'm sorry to hear that." YES THAT'S MY ANNABETH !!!!
- "Our voting system's broken." Percy. It's perfect. Walker, you ARE Percy Jackson.
-"We don't need help. We're fine." Yes, hubris is definitely her flaw. On a side note, I've always admired that her flaw is hubris and not something more stereotypically "girly." I think too often girls in media have to be 'perfect', and it's not true to life. Annabeth is very talented and formidable, but she's not perfect, and that's great. There is a great lack of complex and flawed female characters (and then when we do get them, people tend not to receive them well, which is another tangent altogether).
Tumblr media
-I like the way they handled Medusa's story in the show. I love the emphasis of the fallibility of the gods. But I'm glad that even though you can sympathize with her, she's still an obstacle. She's embittered, and she's trying to take her revenge on the gods through their children, so in the end, she's actually doing what they do, taking revenge on innocent people. I really like this section of the books (especially how they slowly figure out where they are) but I don't mind so much that they changed it to make room for this. It emphasizes that the gods can and DO make mistakes all the time, and is paving the way to Luke's arc.
-Yeah I liked it more this time.

My PJO episode ratings
Before I wanted to start I just wanted to say that I reserved all judgement about the show until it was over because I decided to trust the writers and let me tell you i LOVED pretty much every change because thats what adaptations are about
changing whats not good anymore or improving where it can be
and mainly KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF THE BOOKS WHICH WAS DONE MASTERFULLY
SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY
Now on to the rankings
EP1: 7/10
This was a solid start to the series which pretty much perfected most of the characterizations. I had a few issues originally but these were pretty quicky turned around.
Mrs Dodds fight at the MET was too short but was made up for by her increased appearances across the season which was really nice imo
random cuts to black to avoid showing the car crash - (i had this problem two other times in the show which was during ep2 and ep5 but i dont mind it anymore but ill discuss that later)
grover felt kinda sleazy for me at the start but i did make my peace with this change overall because of something later on.
EP2: 8/10
Ep2 had the same feel as Ep1 being so very Percy Jackson esque with the humour and the characterizations
LUKE WAS JUST SO LIKEABLE AND IT BROKE MY HEART THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO SEE HIM BETRAY PERCY LATER
ANNABETH JUST SAYING YES SHE STALKS PERCY WAS JUST ICONIC
The fight choreography was also just top notch and Dior's scream was just amazing and i cannot believe that it was unscripted
just goes to show how the casting is so perfect - does not matter at all that they don't look book accurate
again the cut to black was kinda annoying for me as we just skipped the council of cloven elders scene which had SUCH A GOOD SET and i was so dissapointed when we didn't see it but otherwise i had a really good time
DIONYSUS WAS JUST PERFECT TOO
I don't mind that they cut the bowing for the claiming but they could have done it so only the big three kids are bowed to which shows how revered they are
percy not wanting to go on the quest and only going when grover says his mom is in the underworld just exemplifies percy's momma boi tendencies and fixed grovers character for me which made it all the worthwhile
EP3: 9/10 - MEDUSA WAS SO GOOD
I LOVED ALL THE CHANGES IN MEDUSAS STORYLINE THEY WERE SO GOOD AND ACTUALLY FIT THE CHARACTER
This is one of the most accurate mixed of greek and roman mythology for medusa i have ever seen.
in the original greek medusa was more of a monstrous figure while the romans started to paint her as a victim of the gods spats and this i feel captures both parts to that really well and JPK just kills it.
Grover is really good in this episode just trying to hold it together and then giving percabeth a reality check at the end is so good.
EP4: 8/10
Step down from ep3 for me mainly because i wanted to see more of the chimera fight and because it was a little too expositiony at the beginning but overall really solid episode and the change in the fall from the arch is really well done
not much to say really
the kids are getting better and better throughout the show
'its like you want me to make fun of you'
this is percabeth just how i imagined them
walker and leah killed it and aryan is just amazing as well.
EP5: 10/10
WHAT IS LOVE
BABY DONT HURT ME
DONT HURT ME
NO MORE
EP6: 7/10
lets be honest the only reason people wanted to see the lotus scenes was because the movie popularized it and retrospectively because of nico and bianca
if was a tiny (but significant) part of the book and didn't really need to be the whole episode pretty much but I did like how they handled it as compared to the movie version which, while fun, did not really fit a percy jackson kind of vibe to me personally.
Lin Manuel Miranda was really good at playing Hermes and grovers scenes were some of my favourite (especially because thats where we get the di angelos easter egg but whatever)
overall a bit of a dip but still really fun for me to watch
plus i love dua lipa so the music change was a big win for me
EP7 9/10:
HADES WAS JUST AS I IMAGINED HIM. NO HOLLYWOOD HES NOT A BIG TERRIFYING SUPERVILLAIN HES ACTUALLY KINDA CHILL AND THE FLASHBACKS WERE JUST SO GOOD
THE UNDERWORLD CGI WAS GREAT
Procrustes could have been done a little better because it really feels like the suspense was taken away during that scene but the flashbacks were so good
THAT POSEIDON SCENE
THE SHOW WAS SETTING ME UP TO HATE HIM AND I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM IN LIKE 2 SECONDS
NO ONE SAID TOBY STEPHENS VOICE SOUNDED LIKE THAT
THE THUNDER FOLLOWED BY 'ONE DAY'
CHEFS KISS
ABSOLUTE KUDOS TO THE WRITERS YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING
EP8: 8471782487261078480/10:
JUST PERFECT. ARES FIGHT WAS REALLY WELL DONE
PERCY AND POSEIDON JUST BROKE MY HEART AND MENDED IT THREE TIMES WITH LIKE 4 FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
'do you ever dream about mom?'
AND I LOVED LANCE REDDICK AS ZEUS (RIP)
I AM SO UPSET WE DO NOT GET TO SEE MORE BECAUSE IT WAS SO AWESOME TO WATCH
LUKE WAS JUST AMAZING
THE KRONOS SCENE WAS SO GOOD
THE BETRAYAL JUST BROKE MY HEART
'i heard everything'
I DID NOT EXPECT ANNABETH TO SHOW UP THERE
THE DISNEYLAND REFERENCE
SEARCH THE SEAS GROVER AND GET US A SEASON 2 BECAUSE WE NEED IT ASAP
OVERALL THE SHOW IS LIKE A FULL 9/10 FOR ME

I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I think a big reason why I'm so chill about the changes made to the PJO show from the books is because I kind of look at each other as their own seperate canon.
Like, I read a lot of anime and manga, and anime adaptations have a huge habit for changing plot points for various reasons, and as a fan of said anime and manga, I've found that I can enjoy both versions of the same story even with the differences when I look at them as their own universe or canon. That's not to say I don't want them to be faithful or true to the source material, but if a scene or situation plays out differently for a logical or entertaining reason, than I can still appreciate that deviation from the manga even if I still like the other original version of that part more. And I can even like the reversal way if I feel an anime does something better than even the manga. But if I want to, I can look at certain moments as more canon than others because I got 2 different versions of that same scene or moment.
And, I don't know, I kind of apply that reasoning to the PJO series as well, mainly with the books, the show, and even the musical (not the movies put that right back where it came from). So far I'm loving the TV show, and while I miss some of the things they changed (like the pink poodle), this adaptation really is doing a great job with staying true to the heart and spirit of the original book that I personally am not even really bothered by the changes, especially when I remember that the books will always still be there with it's own version, or canon, of events.
Like, I will say 1 thing I adore in the books that isn't really in the show is the fact that a lot of Percy and Annabeth's "rivalry" during TLT has more to do with the rivalry between Poseidon and Athena. I just really like on how this adds a level of "forbidden friendship/love" to their relationship 'cause I personally eat the forbidden relationship trope up, especially when it's done well like with Percabeth.
Yet, even if this isn't really the reason percabeth have beef with each other in the show, I can still appreciate and enjoy that according to the show's canon, they have issues because they genuinely have problems with each other as actual people rather than their parents' rivalry, because at the end of the day, that's the PJO TV show canon, and I can always turn to the books for that version of Percabeth's "rivalry", as that is the PJO book canon.
Same goes for the characters too. I will always have and love my dark haired Percy and blond haired Annabeth in the books, but I can also welcome and love Walker's Percy and Leah's Annabeth from the show. And so far, they along with Aryan are KILLING IT as those characters.
I can love both versions of the characters.
I can love both versions of the same story.
I can look at both versions as they own seperate canon or mix them together if I so wish too (especially since both versions of PJO are written by the same guy)
And that's ok. The adaptation doesn't have to be a complete copy of the books. It doesn't have to have things play out eactly the same way. The characters don't have to look exactly the way they are described as in the books. And that's ok. I will still always have the books to love and appreciate, but I can also start to love and appreciate the new adaptation for it's new spin and twists to the same story that sets it apart as it's own canon while still staying true to the spirit of its predecessor.
Anyway, sorry if I'm not making a lot of sense. I just think the people complaining about the changes in the show are looking at it all the wrong way. The show has it's own canon just as the books have their own canon, or even the musical. At the end of the day, isn't that kind of cool to have different versions of the same story and characters? Doesn't it give you so many more options to look at the story in different ways that you can prefer or choose from? Doesn't it give you new versions of canon that you choose from? And really, as long as the PJO adaptation, or any adaptation for that matter, stays true to the heart and spirit of the original story and characters, do the changes made really matter?
#anyway sorry for the long post#I've just been seeing a lot of people complaining about the PJO making changes from the books and I thought I give my 2 cents#& I thought about how the show dies make enough changes to certain events or plotpoints that you could look at it as its own seperate canon#and how that actually is kind of cool as it gives us another version of the same story and characters#it's actually really neat to have different versions of the same story ya know#its like. if I ever want the Percabeth that has more of a 'forbidden relationship' thing going on. there's always the book canon to fall on#likewise if I want the percabeth where they're rivals because they have genuine issues w/ eachother. there's the TV show. ya know?#and if I want the Athena that I can at least somewhat believe might actually care for Annabeth. there's the book canon#whereas if I want the Athena I straight up wanna strangle from the getgo. I now got the TV show for that😊#same with the characters descriptions#I personally still imagine Percy and Annabeth as they are described in the books#but I am positvely loving Leah and Walker's portrayal of TV Percy and Annabeth so much. especially in these last few episodes.#and don't get me started on how much I love Aryan as Grover. he's the GOAT (literally🤭)#anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk#I just think its neat that Ive now got 2. even 3 versions of PJO canon that I can love together and individually at my disposal now#and I just think the people who are complaining about the show aren't seeing it that way and that's why they're whining about changes#like. chill guys. we still have the books. but now we also the show and musical to give us new versions of the same story and characters#and is that not amazing when you think about it?#percy jackson series#percy jackson and the olympians#percy jackson tv show#percy jackson#percy and annabeth#athena#annabeth chase#grover underwood#book vs show#percy jackson books#percy jackson musical#percabeth

Percy Jackson Content:
This is part two of my masterpost (that had too many links so I had to break it up lol).
Anyways, this section is all about Percy! I'm constantly editing and adding new links and content so please check out the original post on my blog for the updated version.
Enjoy!
Percy is Smart (Also the Best Battle Strategist in PJO):
Someone else's thoughts on how smart Percy Jackson is - which I agree with
Percy's first fight with Polybetes was hella strategic. Short. Analysis.
Percy has above average vocabulary - even as a 12 year old.
Other characters recognize that Percy is smart
Percy isn't stupid and saying so comes across as ableism.
Street smart Percy Jackson (pjo tv show)
Smart Percy representation in the pjo tv show
Percy is dylexic not stupid, and he knows what impertinent means.
A little analysis/rant about how Percy (and Leo) are really smart, and being called dumb even in jokes is still very harmful
Rick Riordan confirms that Percy gets better grades than Annabeth (ergo he's more school smart than Annabeth, who's considering dropping out)
The gods (Hermes in this case) are smart!Percy truthers
More coming soon. Hopefully.
Percy Jackson PJO Stuff:
Percy Jackson has imposter syndrome
Who Percy's request for the gods was for in TLO.
Percy used his wish from the gods to help Nico, Calypso and Rachel (not Annabeth).
Percy is a human GPS, Calendar and Clock (Percy's soft subtle powers)
Luke and Percy both have minor telekinesis powers.
Percy didn't turn down immortality for Annabeth <- from a Percy/Annabeth shipper
Powerful Percy and Poseidon analysis using the throne scene in tlo. (not mine but I agree)
We don't talk about how Percy was an outcast at chb for the first 3 books enough
Percy Jackson HoO+ Stuff:
Percy's trip in the beginning of SoN
What a happy ever after might look like for Percy (skip to the text from my reblog about halfway down)
My thoughts on Percy's character and decisions in cotg (similar to the analysis of Percy/Annabeth's life together as adults below)
Legionnaires are stunned to find out that Percy declined both godhood and praetorship.
Sailor Percy with the Queen Ann's Revenge post HoO
Percy sailing around the world, living in his boat.
Bioluminescent Percy Jackson (+ Poseidon being super fond of that)
Percy was abused by Gabe and is traumatized (and he should show it + deal with it)
Another reason why HoO was a let down was because Percy didn't go on any little adventures to help sea creatures

headcanon that percy and annabeth are both equally infatuated with the HSM franchise: PJO version
• the obsession started after the sea of monsters when annabeth stayed over at percy's apartment and they argued over which movie to watch
• eventually, they decided on watching HSM together since neither of them had seen it and they ended up loving it
• at karaoke nights at camp half-blood, they often sang Troy/Gabriella duets (The Start of Something New, What I've Been Looking For, Breaking Free)
• admittedly, they sounded terrible, but singing is so much easier and less embarrassing when they do it together, so neither one of them cared
• the implications of their duet were completely lost on them, but it was one of the main reasons the camp ships them
• after The Titan's curse takes place, annabeth continues the tradition of staying over percy's apartment (also because they missed each other since she got kidnapped) and watched HSM 2 and they both fell even more in love with the franchise
• the morning of percy's fourteenth birthday, he and annabeth baked cookies in the kitchen while blasting 'Work This Out' so loud that the neighbors complained
• sally found the loud music annoying too at first but completely forgot about it when she watched percy and annabeth sing 'You Are the Music in Me' while throwing flour at each other, obviously falling for each other
• percy and annabeth completely shut down the idea of them dating when sally not-so-subtly teases them about it, but sally wasn't fooled
• throughout percy's and annabeth's eighth grade year, they frequently email each other (they know demigods and electronics are a bad idea but they don't care when it comes to each other) and constantly sign-off their emails with quotes or song lyrics to hilariously describe their current mood
• "dude, my brothers literally came into my room and spilled water all over my plans for the camp's next prom night. come fix it." - wisegirl12, how did we get from the top of the world to the bottom of the heap?
• "no." - seaweedbrain18, i gotta go my own way
• the year HSM 3 came out, percy and annabeth weren't on good terms and didn't speak to each other unless it was about preparing for the upcoming war
• still, they refused to watch HSM 3 without the other
• after the battle of the labyrinth (more importantly, after their kiss), percy iris messages annabeth and apologizes for how distant he's been and admits he been avoiding everyone and everything related to being a demigod because he's scared that he'll die before he'll graduate
• annabeth apologizes for being so rude to him and admits that's she's just scared she'll lose him and is shitty at expressing her emotions
• the two continue to talk about anything and everything and eventually get to the topic of HSM 3
• they admit to each other that they hadn't seen it since it came out, so they make a pact: if they both survive the war, annabeth has to come over and watch the movie with him
• later that week, percy secretly purchases the DVD for the movie and promises to not open it until then
• as we know, the two survive the war and finally get together on percy's birthday
• as sally comes to pick the two up from camp, they run to the car hand-in-hand and sally immediately figures it out and is so happy for them
• sally spends almost the entire car ride to the apartment enforcing the 'door open at all times rule', much to the couple's embarrassment
• later that night when annabeth stays over, she and percy cuddle on the couch and talk and then annabeth reminds him of the pact they made
• percy leaps out of his seat and grabs the DVD, much to annabeth's surprise, and the two cuddle and watch the movie together
• from that point forward, whenever they email each other, percy signs off his email as "seaweedbrain18, troy bolton"
• annabeth thinks it's incredibly corny, but signs off her emails as "wisegirl12, gabriella montez"
I was listening to the soundtrack for HSM 2 and got this headcanon idea. Add to it if you want :)

My designs for (a bunch of)the Pjo/Hoo characters
@peachyblkdemonslayer @leo-thecactus @moonage-gaydream @cottoncandyspikes @c0tt0n-c4ndy-sw1rlz @cottoncandyteeth @nogender-onlystars @genderfluid-bat @insomniac-jay @julieemarine @floof-ghostie @agrebel18 @desi-pluto @spnandmarvelrunmylife @edityrhometown @rashadisback @adorkfromnewyork @writtenletterstotheworld @templarhalo
Percy:Afrolatina(half dominican on Sally's side but full black) and a trans woman who's fully physically transitioned, not medically but via magic similar to ambrosia and nectar called metamorphose, which is food that has been blessed by Aphrodite to give the eater their dream apperance.Curvy and busty not for thrist reasons but because all my transfem friends have that's what they want for themselves when they go on estrogen and i wanna make irl trans women happy with this hc.Still muscular,6' and with her black hair and sea green eyes but also your usual black features(dark brown skin,a strong nose and full lips),dyes her formely gray streak that's naturally faded to white sea blue to not raise questions while in the mortal wold and her hair goes to her hips and she wears it in it's natural style and that makes it look like waves. The best way i can describe her fashion sense is 'femme skater girl'
Sally:Afro-dominican with the looks you'd expect from a black latina woman but remains with her sea color changing eyes.Stud(black butch lesbian)and absolutely radiates Mamí vibes, complete with a mom bod
Grover:Blasian(African-American + indian).A perfect mix between both sides of his heritage, with rich brown skin, dark brown eyes,a hooked nose and black dreads.Has the same sense of style and build as in canon but actually needs those crutches because of a disability in his legs
Annabeth:Transmasc he/him butch lesbian who's egg cracked thanks to and at the same time as Percy's.Works out a lot to be buff for gender euphoria and has an undercut, owl wing shaped top surgery scars and no streak in her hair as it faded fully due to being blonde.Dresses like a 90s tomboy
Clarisse:Pretty much the same but he's also half black and therefore has light brown skin and his brown hair is naturally kinky and he keeps it at chin length with chopping it off with a knife whenever it grows past that(took Piper's choppy look and gave it to him because it's not culturally insensitive that way).Same identity and aesthetic as Annabeth but with more edge to it like t-shirts with violent and crude graphics
Silena:I go with the fandom's muslim hc and also hc that all her hijabs have been a pastel color and after getting to Camp Half Blood, she was given magic ones that never come off.Black-french with almost black skin, brown eyes and burn scars from the acid incident that she survived in my verse.Peak pastel femme
Thalia:Black/white mixed and looks like a girl version of Zeus, not unlike Percy with Poseidon.Has her canon lithe build and electric blue eyes but her hair is locs(same length as usual though)and she's darkskinned with strong features.Trans girl who took metamorphose as a gift from Persephone like Percy(which is the reason for her chosen full name,as a thank you to her)but the only effects it had on her was giving her a muffin top and a small chest because she's butch.Goth punk like in canon
Nico:Black-italian trans boy.Darkskin but lighter than Percy and Thalia and noticably more delicate features than them and has an afro and an average build with top surgery scars-He was the third and final one to be gifted metamorphose by his stepmom and that's where he got them from,no surgery needed(it also added 2 inches to his height).Goth with but a gnc twist thanks Percy and Hazel's influence.Small note i'd like to share:Persephone asked Sally about the Big Three Kids' favorite foods and the metamorphose's ended up being blue pancakes,a double cheeseburger and a box of 10 piece McNuggets
Bianca:Black-italian with medium skin, similar facial features to Nico and her single braid is instead a box braid low ponytail.Light academia(but actually reads).Still dead sadly but everyone thinks fondly of and speaks highly of her
Rachel:Nigerian-american trans girl.Still a green eyed redhead but with a very strong face, extremely dark skin and wears her hair in it's naturally big and poofy state.Fat because of her estrogen and her fashion sense matches her eccentric artist personality
Jason:Black/white mixed and it's easy to tell by looking at him to go with him and Thalia being opposites.Thick and curly dirty blonde hair, brown eyes and light brown skin.Nerdy jock as always
Piper:Long straight black hair that she keeps down, skin that's darker than Jason's but lighter than the rest of the Big Three Kids',black eyes, monolids and a hooked nose.Butch with a love for sanrio and Percy got her into skating so she incorporates that into her wardrobe too(Butch4femme solidarity at it's finest).Aphrodite took the form of a cherokee woman when with Tristan so she's full native
Hazel:Honestly, literally just @/silima's version but i'll give a description for those who haven't seen their art:Darkskinned with classic black facial features and hip length black dreads.Trans girl who was given a gumbo metamorphose by Percy and Nico as a 'Welcome back to living' gift.Pastel but in a kidcore way

Since The Percy Jackson s1 is done, i can now write my overall experience with it. Mind you i only read the first book of PJO because I couldn’t afford the books and because goddamn borrowing it from the university library was like a pack of coyotes seeing a slab of meat after 15 years of starvation.
(Side note: i once got scratched in the face by a girl who wanted to read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, when i was gonna borrow the book for a second time. I learned it was better to just buy the books one by one per year.)
So i fully enjoyed the series. Regardless of how a lot of people have been calling it shit or a disgrace to the books. Like I appreciate how Uncle Rick managed to retell his own story, see it come to life, in a way that he wants. I appreciate Sally Jackson having a bigger impact to how Percy is as a person and as a character.
Yes, i too was shocked with the grover snitch scene in ep 1, then I thought about it, it made sense. Grover is my favorite character and i would like to say that the movie version of Grover made me feel uneasy but this version of grover, he made me long for that kind of friendship. I also love how Grover unlike in the movies, isn’t comic relief. You see his emotional struggles. You see him grow from “we have to keep the peace, let’s all be kind” to then showing us that he’s more than that. He is smart, cunning, manipulative if need be. He is also brave and he carries so much emotional baggage. The fact that he expresses rage about certain things, makes him feel more human to me. By giving him so much depth, by casting Aryan Simhadri, his depiction of grover would make book grover very proud.
Annabeth is also really really amazing in my eyes. Seeing a child give off an air of “i know things that you don’t” like an adult is so cool. Seeing her grow from “the gods are just and they have their reasons” to “The gods have flaws and they make mistakes, but i will be better than that” is very tear jerking. It helped me see Annabeth in those moments as a child who didn’t get to experience a proper childhood finally see what its like to be loved without having to give anything in return. Leah Sava Jeffries, shows emotions so well. Her posture changes depending on how she feels. She slouches a bit when she’s dejected or upset and is more poised when she’s feeling the most confident. Her eyes carry so much emotion in scenes where she doesn’t speak. She’s a lovely actress.
Percy, gods where do i even begin. Walker first off, played this character so well! You see how he’s feeling through his eyes, his face is so expressive and i love it. Percy also gets my mom approval card (which means my mom also loves his character). The way they show him to be loyal, caring, empathetic but also he’s just a child so you understand why he acts the way he acts. People complained about how percy wasn’t fighting like a pro, but i think that’s what makes it great. Percy is new, he’s learning as he goes, when we finally see Walker Portray the Percy that we all know, we can look back at s1 and we’ll see that truly, Percy has grown in skill. Also im always gonna sob over the fact that his scenes where he chooses to sacrifice himself for his friends, he always implies how he isn’t enough, we see how he sees himself and that hurts. Percy’s sass and humor though are also such highlights. I would love to see more of walker’s percy too.
Now honorable mention to my favorite backstabbing, pretty boy, luke. I love how he is such a good actor. Watching him play luke kinda immersed me in the moment, i forgot that this kind ,young man is the antagonist. Because when he played luke when we first saw him, i too wouldn’t be able to think that this guy, he can be cruel. But he delivers so much rage, so much resentment in his scene with percy in the finale. The way charlie acted in that scene, gods, i was shocked. I truly believe watching him and his character’s descent to something more is gonna be a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
The show in itself is really really good. Yes there are odd sudden black screens, but I don’t mind them. I don’t mind the changes, i just think that the episodes could be a bit longer. The story is captivating even with those changes, i love how Uncle Rick got the chance to give us an adaptation that isn’t an exact copy of the book, because i believe that a good adaptation doesn’t need to be a scene per scene copy, because if that’s what y’all wanted, listen to an audio book where people act out the scenes. Think of it this way, the book and the show are just two separate universes. Like how we have the MCU and the Marvel Comics. Same characters but different continuums.
People tend to find the negatives before they see the positives, its how we’re mostly wired. If we look past them, you’ll see that there are things that are better.
I would definitely be excited for a s2

Ep 5 reactions
spoilers beneath the cut for s1e5 and minor spoilers for most of the books, but I censored the traitor's name. mostly positive tone.
ANNABETH SAW THE FUCKING FATES
"Im the last one to realize this aren't I" A LITTLE BIT
I love Percy admitting there he was really ONLY in it for Sally. Poseidon does ONE good thing and all of a sudden it's "wait I think the conspiracy to start war betten the gods is... important?" SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MEET REASONABLE PARENTING EXPECTATIONS? A certain god could be taking notes, specifically the patent of [REDACTED]
go off Percy with the emotional intelligence. A for effort
and an A PLUS to Annabeth for the sharing important info and being vulnerable.
I see that coat covering the bike seat. there's human skin on that thing, isn't there?
LIVING the portrayal of Ares as man-baby who starts twitter fights. average maturity level of anyone who likes war.
"there's no fear in you, is there?" STAWPPP
THEY KEPT THE MANHUNT PLOT🎉🎉🎉🎉 also the Gabe is Gabe-ing. Manipulate mansplain manwhore on the most literal level. except disney probably cut the womanizer bit.
the whole "Im immature as shit but my threats are real, I hold all the cards" THE GOD OF WAR IS GODOFWAR-ING
"can I walk them to the door" IS HE GONNA RUN FOR IT? they're really letting Grover miss out on this quest, huh? I mean I guess it makes sense. PLUS it means more Grover-exclusive scenes! MY BOYY
that's a lie. there HAVE to be corny movie nights at camp, right?
ALSO botl movie date, anyone?👀👀👀👀
is that? a JOKE I HEAR??? poking fun at Percy? a little. Genuine? ALSO TRUE. If you told me that "amusing" line was Liften from the book and I've just forgotten about it all five million times I read it, I WOULD BELIEVE YOU
Annabeth who complimented Circe's loom when Percy got cursed🤝 Annabeth who complimented Hepheastus when Percy got trapped
the way she says push before telling him what it is😭😭😭
WE'VE MET BEFORE. I'M 24. A FAN!? GROVER WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING AT
songs about feelings that was PERSONAL
*insert Coach Hedge talking about nature*
Annabeth asking what Ares need the kids for if he wants the bolt/thinks their quest means nothing🤝 Grover gaslight girlbossing : doing detective work under Percy's nose
OOOH good detail with Percy being caught up with all the "3000 year-old goss" because HIS MOTHER TOLD HIM hi sally i fuckign love u
"don't even try to tell me not to be weird about this" we love an honest queen. While I kinda miss book Annabeth being a bit stompy and whiny at this part, I do think that the show version suits its own characterization of Annabeth, saying whatever she thinks needs to be said.
this whole show, I've been able to see everything. episode five DO NOT be the one to let me down! PLEASE!
THE SONG omg i wasnt expecting that. miraculous movie flashbacks fr.
W CONVO. DOUBLEYOU CONVO. nothing to add. perfection.
Also. don't shoot but the song choice unironically fits Hephaestus's story.
SWIMMING
is that a giant gold naked statue of Hera? to taunt them for cheating on him? hypocrite.
"they like to ignore what doesn't fit their narrative" [REDACTED] APOLOGISTS TAKE NOTES.
also, SMOOTH AF
okay there's no way Annabeth doesn't know that story. there's ONE way to take a god's power and she doesn't know it? at least let them tell it in tandem! a little "Yeah I recognize the chair, what of it?" THEN let the touchy-feely boy present the bargain. AT LEAST.
SHE'S NOT LEAVING WITHOUT HIM
"do you need some help?" "FUCK OFF" that's Annabeth
in the one hand, I am not a fan of depriving Annabeth of her super wisdom hero moment. on the other hand, placing responsibility to fix things on the perpetrators instead of those kids from Season ONE queen shit, and showing people can change. slay, but PLEASE let Annabeth do some more puzzle shit!
THE SHIELD LOOKS SO BIG IN HER HANDS
THESE FUCKIGN TWELMVE YEAR OLDS
OH so [REDACTED] and Ares conspired to make sure the trio never makes it there, not just using the magic things that activate at a certain place, but also by DIRECTING THEM TO THE TIME FREEZE ON PURPOSE
TO SUMMON WHAT
that interaction. SO THEM
YOU KNOW WHO WHATTED THE WHAT
