Some of these might get along better than their pairings in canon. Others might be responsible for a nuclear reactor meltdown. ¡Pick a doctor/companion matchup that never happened in the show and explain your reasoning in the tags!
The thing about the "fridged" trope is that obviously you can't have a female love interest dying as a defining moment for a male character because that's not feminist, but you also can't have a male love interest dying as a defining moment for a female character because then she's just going to have an arc revolving around her relationship with a man and that's also not feminist, and you also can't kill off a love interest from a gay relationship or a relationship involving a nonbinary person because that's burying your queers, which is at least as bad as misogyny if not even worse, and now suddenly you can't kill off romantic partners at all in stories because no matter the demographics, it's going to be problematic somehow, which is... a pretty ridiculous limitation to impose on storytelling.
And, like, it would be satisfying to have a solution other than "it depends on context if not straight-up vibes, and it's usually very reasonable for audience members to have a range of opinions on the execution of one specific instance," but. Yeah, you do kind of have to just vibe check it in a deeply subjective manner sometimes.
once again. i am thinking about an alternate end of time ending where the master joins up with the doctor on the tardis, but now specifically, an au where the doctor still ends up regenerating and crashlanding in amy's backyard. au where the doctor doesn't show up 12 years late because two timelords piloting a tardis is (marginally) better than one, and now amelia pond is going on adventures in time and space in the care of the two least qualified being in the history of the universe to take care of a seven year old.
Amelia is 100% that girl who would call you up and ask "Want to come over and play mermaids in my pool?" Even though she is a full grown adult
List of nations that would say yes:
1. Italy (Never turns down an invite from a girl to do anything. He wasn't even listening he heard "want to come over-" And checked out of the conversation.)
2. Japan (He enjoys the world building. Get's really into it)
3. Poland (Always insists he is the prettiest mermaid)
4. England (He likes to pretend he's a pirate though. They try and capsize his boat aka. his pool float)
5. Romano (Says "no that's dumb" but shows up anyway)
6. Denmark (His mermaid is always over powered. Someone picks an ability and he's like "yeah I can do that to, but also better than you")
7. Iceland (Also says "no way" but just turns up 30 mins after)
8. Russia (He was just happy to be included)
9. Hungary (is already planning out her mermaid on the way over)
10. Ukraine (Was helping her call everyone)
(feel free to add on who you think would say yes and why)
My life has turned into a horror show and all I can do is stand back and watch it play out. My baby has no brain. No brain. I'm a damn neurosurgeon and my baby has no brain. I would say God has a sense of humor but there is no God. No God would do this.
just so it's so so so clear why i am Pained that book 5 doesn't exist: wouldn't it be crazy if book 5 took place not only right before Amelia got on the train up until she took it over from One, but also when she was with Hazel. imagine this movie going back and forth between the process of learning how the train works so she can take it from One (as she tries to hide her rising number from him) and learning about Hazel, and eventually how to protect her from being ejected like the rest of her failed experiments (all while her number goes back down, almost without her notice). in the 80s, when she thought she could crack the code of the train with logic and her knowledge of engineering, and in modern day, when she's learning that the train is created by the emotional experiences of passengers. she was never in control her cars, because they were always going to be shaped by her unresolved trauma and denial and guilt. watching her start to shape her belief that maybe one day she'll get Alrick back if she does whatever it takes, and then watching her break it down at the same time,, watching her learn to both take care of herself and stop being so deeply selfish in the future, while she digs herself into a self-destructive hole in the past. watching her learn how to create someone like Hazel, and then learn that she is responsible for what happens to her... AGH it would RUIN me. it would ruin me.
River: i kind of maybe really like someone, but i’m really worried about telling you who it is, because you’re really not going to like it
Amy: just rip it off like a bandage
River: it’s the Doctor…
Rory: put the bandage back on. right now
