"it's like penguins. penguins, in nature, when one is sick, or when one is very injured, the other penguins surround it and prop it up. they walk around it until that penguin can walk on it's own. that's kind of what the cast did for me." — matthew perry about his fellow friends.

I really do think it's interesting that the way DE discusses ableism gets ignored by a lot of the fanbase. Because Harry is undeniably disabled and that's a core conflict of the game. He's living in an impossible situation that so many disabled people get caught in; he's physically disabled, even more so by the end of the game after being shot, but even at the beginning of the game he struggles with nerve damage, post-polio syndrome, partial paralysis in his jaw, withdrawals, and that's not even starting on the mental illness. He is sick and cannot ever properly heal under these circumstances because he cannot stop moving forward or he will start to sink. He's living in poverty. He has no safety net. No way out of the RCM. That night in Martinaise before the beginning of the game, he tries to quit- throw everything away. He tries to end his own life and drive his car into the sea because he cannot fathom a future where he's able to get out of this alive when he's so intrinsically bound to this abusive institution that he can't escape from.
And then comes Jean, deliberately forbidding anyone from jogging Harry's memory out of spite and anger, refusing to allow anyone else to help, calling him a fucking idiot and a psychopath, asking if he can go to the toilet on his own, telling him that he doesn't deserve his disability pension because it should go to cops who gave a shit instead (nevermind that Harry has been working at burnout pace for years, he's an addict so his contributions are essentially worthless, right?). He has a conversation with Judit, right in front of Harry, on whether or not he has learning disabilities.
This guy is a very interesting character! And I'm not denying that he's likely dealt with consequences at work from Harry's illness. But he also fulfils the narrative role of being a mouthpiece for the suspicion and even outright aggression that addicts face even while trying to recover. He fulfils the role of a representative of the RCM, with the ability to approve or deny Harry’s return and in turn essentially sentence him to a slow death in the seaside village. He is not there to help; he is there to judge and observe, and then blame Harry when things go bad even though his inaction is at least in part responsible for the deaths during the tribunal. And this is all very deliberate! The RCM, and by extension the Coalition, as an organisation is failing both its officers and its citizens- Jean, by extension, is one of the officers being failed! They are underfunded, overstretched, overworked, and shouldn't even exist in the first place. The expectation on partnered officers to provide emotional support to each other is ridiculous. But instead of directing his anger upwards towards the Coalition airships or superiors at the RCM, he directs it outwards, towards 'the liberals' or towards Harry, who as a disabled addict is a pretty convenient punching bag.
His vitriol towards Harry is not supposed to be sympathetic! At least the way I read it, you're not meant to look at him and think 'oh wow Harry's struggle has been so hard for him.' You're meant to question his language, to think more deeply about how society treats addicts, how punitive measures are never going to help someone get sober, about the importance of safety nets.

Could you please write something for Liya because my girl is so under appreciated
Thank you and take care💗
Winter's Notes: Hi anon! I'm currently assuming you're talking about Lilya, and bc I know she's really underrated, I'll just do general relationship hcs! [Totally no biases: she was my first 6-star.] Please also note that most of these are simply what I imagine. No regard for the lore at all.
Style: [Relationship] Headcanons!
MASTERLIST
Feel free to request!
Warnings: Fluff, cuddling, gn reader, intense going round in circles [i'm so sorry :((((], cooking?, love.
-Lilya would probably fall first, and you harder. It would be like those relationships where everyone around them can tell that both Lilya and you are hopelessly in love except for the two of you.
-She's quite reckless and outgoing as I can imagine so definitely late night plane rides in the middle of nowhere. Just classify them as dates.
-You would have to drag her around to make she isn't causing chaos wherever she goes.
-Lilya's a terrible cook. Better make sure you know how to cook so you won't starve to death. Unless you prefer burned food, of course.
-Would definitely take you out on dates in the weirdest places
-Lilya would be good at haggling things in a market, leading her to collect trinkets as souvenirs for you and her to remember fun moments.
-A cuddlebug. Would probably have cuddles all the time. Almost always the big spoon. She's too proud to let you be the big spoon.
-Would insist on matching EVERYTHING. From keychains to jewelry to hats to anything you could think of.
- She's great singer, so if you have any trouble sleeping, she will sing you to sleep.
-A pretty sweet and cute girlfriend! 10/10 would recommend.

I’m so upset because I hate Valentino and I want Charlie to at some point cleave the creepy weirdo in two, but his character design is so good. I want to draw him but his character makes me physically ill.

I'm obsessed with how Tereesz bases his worth on his usefulness. He can't tell his friends he's not an ICP agent anymore, because he'll lose his value. (Something Khan literally says to him btw, that he can't get fired because they need him at the ICP for access - Tereesz has already lost his job at this point because he lost it before the book starts.)
While coming down from the ZA/UM high his subconscious reveals he's scared of Khan "for some reason" - he later (during hangover #2) also begs Khan not to turn him in. That's what he's afraid of - being ditched because he has no value anymore. What's most painful about that to me is that when Khan ultimately does exactly that, he forgives him immediately.
Behind the ICP blinds drawn over his eyes, behind the unflinching composure and brilliant lies, what we see of Tereesz is loyalty. The first thing he says when he meets up with them again is "Did (Jesper) apologise?" (He also tried to call Jesper before coming, was it about this?) and one moment when they were kids that stands out to me is that after Tereesz' impressive jump of the cliff, successfully landing in front of the girls (including the goddess from the 9th grade!) he immediately turns around to catch Khan's glasses.
Anyway, all this to say that when Khan trades Tereesz for info in the end, Tereesz is basically like "yea that makes sense, I had nothing to contribute anymore" bc that's genuinely how he sees himself and it kills me.

Look at my gems, boy
I know I'm mostly a specbio account these days, but I felt like drawing some other guys of mine. These four are my hnk ocs that live on the moon because you can't just make a bunch of gems without putting some of them up there! I'll put some info about them too, for funsies.
So my hnk story takes place mostly on a volcanic island and is about what happens when some gems are separated from their normal society and try to start their own. These guys all live on the moon but have their connections to earth too.
Biphosphammite / 1.5 / Was born and taken from the volcanic island before anyone else set foot on it, and they were used in several experiments about inclusion behavior. After that, they were allowed to live on the moon and they quite like it, but they wonder what they're missing out on back on earth.
Pallasite / 5ish / Had a different identity back on earth, but they were kidnapped and offered a way to save themself if they agreed to help take more gems. They were repaired with a meteorite that landed on the moon and took its name and appearance. They don't like their new job and frequently sneak down to the volcanic island to hang out, but just as frequently are they taken back to work.
Stishovite / 7ish / Was once a quartz born on the volcanic island but got caught up in an accident that left their body a mix of glassy impact debris and without any memories. They became friends with Pallasite during one of their visits to the volcanic island and followed them to the moon once. They're having fun but they're kind of clueless about what's actually going on with anyone.
Salt & Pepper Diamond / 10ish / A diamond who washed up on the shores of the canon island missing legs, arms and half of their head. They were told that they were born this way, but they frequently had dreams about having them stolen and became unsure. They were taken to the moon by Pallasite but agreed to switch sides to buy themself more time to figure out what happened to them.

having thoughts about how Husk actually has very little left to redeem bc he started his journey of self-change before even coming to work at the hotel, but at the same time redemption isn't even his goal- he ain't even aiming for heaven, he just wanted to be a better person and maybe now with friends and especially Angel, who he supports so much and wants to see succeed, maybe now he has a reason to be a better person

Once again thinking about how much I love Oliver's ending monologue in Saltburn.
It is the perfect culmination of his character arc, even as Oliver tries to sell it as a shocking reveal of his movie-long character flatline.
The boy who always wanted to please everyone and never felt like he could please anyone until he resorted to lies, left with only himself as his last audience to lie to for their (his) happiness.
And maybe this time it'll work out like he wanted.
Maybe now he can finally be happy, if he can convince himself he means it when he tells himself he is.

I started replaying animal jam again after 5 years for the nostalgia and I’ve already spent 15k gems, all my diamonds, bought two houses, joined the military, got a seal and an arctic wolf, broke up a fight between a racist and a twitter user, and bought a three month membership subscription…
I am but a man
