#and also using the division to keep poor whites

So many of the controls mentioned that slave owners did in the colonies to prevent revolt and encourage division and intensify racism are what republican politicians still do today.
#rant#lb#peoples history of the united states#how in boxers rebellion slaves and white servants and free whites all revolted together#so afterwards the rich masters started offering poor white servants money and freedom after X time.#putting them in militia to make them feel increased power with guns. and make them overseers in plantations with ability to abuse black#slaves (in both cases using poor whites as a barrier of soldiers to fight indians and die. to fight black slaves and be the canon fodder#to protect the rich masters). and then to create slave patrols made up of poor white men who would get privileges and guns in exchange for#hunting black runaways. creating minor rewards if the poor whites cooperated with the racist division and enforcement#and also using the division to keep poor whites#from gaining any more power and to use them as soldiers to protect rich masters assets of land and resources#which we still see today. republicans sell racism as a way to put down black ppl promising then rhe white people#will get Enough resources to live better (when in reality its the rich hurting the poor white now. not other races who are also suffering)#and convincing poor white men to be soldiers in their wars in the middle east for the richs profit.#soldiers offered secure jobs and benefits if they join the army. whereas#otherwise they will have significantly less opportunity if already poor and white.#republicans political plan now of divide to prevent ppl uniting under shared conditions of suffering to#work on progress. so they can maintain the suffering and use poor whites to help maintain the system#by making the poor whites feel superior to black people. and by trying to offer them unique small#perks (even as small as white people arrested less for drug possession and less likely to die from cops#but still killed by cops. cops have killed white teenagers in my county. again a point that just like#in the end everyone is suffering due to the fucked system in place.#but republicans try to convince poor whites to support cops (who kill any americans) as if cops are uniquely helping Them#try to convince poor whites that if only segregation was back and affirmative axtion destroyed then#they wohld get more opportunity. thus pitting the various people who arent rich against eaxh orher#(then u can go up to middle and upper middle class. where republicans do this with evangelical middle class versus city middle class. with#college educated v blue collar. etc)

Saying "but Palestinians did bad things too" is literally skipping over 75 years of oppression and occupation from the state of Israel as an entity in a systematic way towards a people that have been living under its control and constantly killed, abused and made to leave their own homes for the illegal settlers from around the world that come to Israel
it's like saying that yeah white supremacists were bad but black people oppressed by them should have been nicer about the fight to stop the oppression???
It just shows somebody is ignorant of the facts and all the evidence that shows how Israel as an entity is the one with all the power
Not even counting the fact that the Palestinians literally tried protesting peacefully for years and the majority doesn't even agree with Hamas and are MINORS that didn't vote for them
What Israel is doing now is a response completely not proportional to what they have experienced the 7th seeing all of this context around, if they really just wanted to save the hostages and protect their citizens without hurting innocent civilians they would have tried to negotiate before bombing everywhere seeing that all parties involved are capable of it because they are doing it now and the hostages were kept alive proving that the idea from Hamas is not just mindlessly killing all Jewish people, it's an organized attack to have some leverage against the biggest opponent
there is a reason this fight goes on and these people are so angry that they resorted to this violence ( for how much I don't approve of it morally, and I don't approve of people having hostages etc either ) and the things happening in the west bank where Hamas is not present are an ulterior demonstration of why people are this angry, they are under oppression every day of their lives and have lost innocent people too murdered before the 7th of October by Israel
The state of Israel controls electricity, water and the movement of the Palestinians in Gaza and in various Palestinian territories, at one point they even had a plan put in place to control the amount of calories that the people there should be able to access, they have control on what goes in and out of that land so much that people in Gaza have resorted to build the tunnels so that they could smuggle stuff for commerce first of all because they are being kept in a position of poverty by Israel's rules (+ many other things that I have to admit I was ignorant about before this awful month because there was almost no coverage of the Palestinian plight in my country)
So instead of trying to integrate the population and reach a point in which it is beneficial for both to live side by side they have decided to keep this division in place, using some of their own people to keep the majority subjugated obviously, because they want to maintain the purity of the Zionist state and keep the resources and houses that they stole when the Nakba happened
And if that wasn't enough there is also a big (racist) propaganda in place from the state of Israel to their citizens and to Jewish ppl around the world to make it seem like Palestinians are sub humans and inherently violent without reason and this is something Jewish people have talked about themselves admitting it themselves, not something I'm saying
Even Amnesty international is saying that Israel is upholding an apartheid system towards the Palestinians and has been for years, this anger doesn't come out of nowhere, I find it ridiculous to keep denying it and saying they are just the poor victims without any guilt while they have also now doubled down on the previous abuse by killing half the population of Gaza for more than a month now !
Wake up.
That state must be stopped and the government completely reformed towards a future for a state where both People are protected under the law and can live together and are BOTH protected and that's the only way this can end positively for everybody... otherwise the regime will continue and hamas 2.0 will be born after they destroy all of Gaza and no one in Israel will feel safe either

do you think tkachuk/drai/mcdavid (or 2 of the 3) would have been anything if matthew was drafted to edmonton instead of jesse puljujarvi?
hello anon! it says something about how uncaffeinated i was when i first read this ask that at first i thought you meant like, as a line, and i was like "well someone would have to learn to play left wing and it would probably be smarter to spread that firepower out over two lines" and then i had one (1) sip of coffee and was like OOOOooohhh you mean in a hrpf way. (i assume. sorry if you actually wanted lineup analysis.) and then i got briefly distracted thinking about a beautiful world where poor jesse puljujärvi never had to endure the dickings around of the oilers management. and THEN i got briefly distracted thinking about how having all three of them would make the oilers' cap situation even more funny. BUT ANYWAY.
short answer: yes. long answer:
so like, on the mcdavid front, hrpf nation has been exploring the mortifying ordeal of being connor mcdavid since before he was drafted. if matthew was drafted to his team people would be interested by default. if the oilers had him, drai, AND matthew, for marketing purposes they would have packaged those three all together like eberle/hall/nuge 2.0 and people would have loved it. matthew would have been giving nonstop quotes about playing with these special players and learning so much from them and whatever the fuck. matthew cares very very deeply about being a Good Teammate. he would have become connor's guard dog the same way he did for auston matthews in the ntdp. folks absolutely would have latched onto it. plus the added dimension of matthew being a Legacy Kid while connor has had Legacy Thrust Upon him would have been like rpf narrative catnip.
also, in addition to the legacy kid thing making him already a person of interest, if matthew had been drafted to the other side of the battle of alberta he would have been exactly as rambunctious and annoying and divisive and shit-stirring and fun to watch, just on the other side of the battle, and manyof us would have still gotten weird and wild about him. imho!!
i think it's a really interesting thought experiment to ponder how being in the shadow of mcdavid (and doing his shenanigans in what might be perceived as in service of the mcdavid experiment) might have possibly changed perpections/portrayals of him, and also how being drafted to a team where he knew he would never, in the eyes of the hockey zeitgeist, be the best player, might have changed matthew's own approach to his career and developing his game. because he's such a family-oriented guy i do still think he would have gotten homesick in edmonton the same way he got homesick in calgary, but i'm really curious if the concept of Playing With McDavid would have been enough to pressure him into sticking it out in the great white north. also, back to the cap crunch of it all — it feels so unlikely that the oilers would be able to afford to keep all three of them, and i wonder, if matthew was there, if drai would be the one to go. and that would have provided some RICH hrpf narratives.
on the draisaitl front, hrpf nation has been info him since he was drafted being he's hot, lmao. (laying these foundations just because if a guy is on the rpf radar it's much more likely for pairing with him to being a Thing(tm).) if matthew had been drafted to the oilers, mattdrai as we know it would absolutely not exist (and que tragique!!). it just wouldn't have that antagonism! i've always said that if leon and matthew were on the same team from the beginning, they would have been fast friends. they would have had a great time terrorizing people together. the things about matthew that pissed leon off so much wouldn't be pissing him off if they weren't being used against him!! so the dynamic that drew so many people into mattdrai wouldn't be there, and it would definitely be a very different thing, but i do think it would still be a thing.
honestly from what i know about hrpf, i feel like if we lived in the matthew-to-the-oilers universe, connor/matthew would be the big ship, with connor/leon and matthew/leon as rarer pairs on the side (and of course connor/matthew/leon hanging out there too). what a world!! i would read a million versions of the au though.

What are some of the things you've noticed about these middle class city gays and their lifestyles? What are some of the things that stood out to you the most that is completely normalized? Because I see these pretty gay boys from the global north on Instagram and how perfect and white their teeth are, iPhone, MacBook, nice restaurants, nice gyms, holidays, expensive clothes that look very plain but you know that plain white t shirt was somehow $100 to me its like when Katniss sees the people in the Capitol and I just can't relate...especially since theyre all so skinny and pretty and have nice things!
Ok im saying this all as an immigrant thats lived here for a decade and still experiences this disconnection between city gays. Its the money, its always the amount of money they are comfortable throwing away on tech like you said but its more than just some rando city person buying themself an apple product once every 3 years or something. In order to live the life that you noticed these people tend to live you need 1 of the 2.
1. Rich parents. Most city gays that you see on Instagram are these. They usually go to school or have a job like one day a week type deal but they dont worry about rent or bills ever, no number on paper scares them to say the least but they are also really weird about you paying back like coffees or miniscule shit.
2. Are in debt. Most of my friends that are middle class are this
Like i wont forget meeting this girl through a drag actor friend of mine and she was cool and one of those all pink people so we vibed nicely until she started pulling up pages and pages of clothes and shoes and furniture that cost more than ive spent my entire life and talking about all the things she wants like a bratty child and i was losing my grip on reality before she talked about her hot pink custom paint job porshe and how her dad payed for it all cus she wasnt gonna drive a boring straight car. Like this attitude specifically is what drives me up the wall cus as someone whos jumped to and from alternative scenes a big appeal was making my own accessories and clothes and fucking shit up and looking trashy but alluring to other people like me. even when i went through my fem diva phase i exclusively thrifted vintage clothes to embody a 60 year old diva i didnt spend hundreds of dollars to look good?? My 90s thrifted furcoat ive worn for 7 years cost me 10 bucks.
As for middle class or poor gays that are in debt that keep going in debt to allow themselves the luxuries that they see gays with (their parents) money can allow themselves, i feel like its a very complex social dynamic that isnt easily explained by poor prople are allowed nice things or everyone deserves luxuries. And its harmful however its explained because very often the sentiment from middle class gays in regards to overspending obfuscates what a luxury is, not a few times have i heard from gays with debt "if i had the money i would take a private jet everywhere i wouldnt give a single fuck if i had access to things that rich people had I would use them just the same or more"
Class division is really like that tho, id compare it to how middle class suburbians dont want better public transport and shut any finances that go into it cus they dont want poor "suspicious" people coming to their neighborhoods. And that shut down of public transport only hurts them and their community but they do it anyway. Ill say it outright most middle class gays in debt that do everything to spend money to live a fantasy of not being in the same social class as poor gays are doing so intentionally.

"You’ll be hearing more of this, Mr. P 34!"
Mackenzie is here referring to the poor police constable by a feature that most uniformed officers in the UK and Ireland have, namely his collar number. Although these days they tend to be known as shoulder numbers.
Permit me to demonstrate via this image:
Tumblr media
This is Police Constable C 333. His actual name is not recorded in this c.1948, but we'll call him Robert Smith, or Bobby to his friends.
The letter C represents the division of the Metropolitan Police he is assigned to. In this case, C covered the West End of London. The Met has gone through a lot of command changes over the decades - today this would be Central West Basic Command Unit and he'd have AW on his shoulders, not his collar.
These numbers allow for identification of the officer; the public would know who to compliment or complain about. There have been cases of officers policing protests not wearing these, which caused a fair amount of upset when it was reported.
If he was using a radio, he would be Charlie Three-Three-Three. Or just "Three-Three-Three" for a local chat.
If he was to sign a statement, he'd be PC Smith 333 C. He would also put that in his email signature today.
Sergeants would have three V stripes on their sleeves and now their epaulettes outside of a dress uniform situation. They would also have their numbers on their uniform.
Police Community Support Officers (civilians wearing a uniform, basically) and Special Constables (volunteer officers with full powers, but unpaid) have shoulder numbers.
Inspectors and above just have their rank insignia, no numbers.
If Bobby moved to another division, he might keep his numbers, but he would have to change his letter. He would go down to two numbers if promoted to Sergeant.
****
Outside of London, you will usually just see four numbers, with no letters.
Bobby would also have a warrant card, akin to the US police badge, which he would use in a plain clothes or off-duty situation. If he were suspended for excessive force, he would have to hand it over.
****
Now P 34 is a bit outside his area.
This is the 1888 police divisions map, also relevant for Sherlock Holmes:
Tumblr media
(Source: https://gmic.co.uk/topic/64457-metropolitan-police-divisional-areas-1888/)
The blue area represents the boundaries of the London County Council, although the City of London was excluded from that - it retains its own local government and police, who have their numbers on their sleeves today.
You can see the Whitechapel area under H and the Docklands area, plus points east under K.
The red area was the then boundaries of the Metropolitan Police District. You can see that it excluded my manor of Havering, then under the auspices of Essex Police. This went quite a way out, beyond even the modern Greater London boundaries in some places, although in 2000 it was aligned to match those. Havering was KD until recently, it is now part of EA.
As a further fun note, the MPD boundaries were also those of the coal tax area. Any coal brought within this area, which also included the City, was subject to tax until 1890, when this was abolished due to its unpopularity in the new suburbs. The boundaries were marked by obelisks or white concrete posts, many of which are still in situ, although not always easy to spot, to remind people of the tax. The railway or river transport companies usually collected this anyway.
Anyway, P Division covers the Camberwell, Lewisham area. Quite why Mackenzie has grabbed this bloke from there for this operation is a mystery. While P 34 could easily go outside his area for public order stuff, like a parade or dealing with a protest; during the miners' strike of 1984-85, Metropolitan Police officers were used in protecting those who were going into work from their striking colleagues, as well as beating up the latter.
Perhaps he was just doing it for the LOLs.
****
As a final note, police officers are also starting to wear name badges. This was somewhat controversial as some officers feared being targeted as a result.

It's Still You and It's Still Me

As you walked through the streets of Bay City alone, you couldn’t help but be disgusted at what civilization had become. You had been awake now for months, your mislabeled stack accidently inserted into a Meth’s sleeve. After escaping the resleeving facility, you had managed to transfer as much money as possible from the Meth’s account to your new account before your access was locked. But it didn’t matter. The amount of money you took could keep you hidden for a thousand years, yet you doubted the Meth would even notice it was missing.
But the shock of waking up from stasis was nothing compared to the shock of what this world had become. Everything you had worked towards changing, on improving as an Envoy, had just gotten worse. The division between the wealthy and the poor had just become further apart, to the point the wealthiest of citizens no longer even lived on the ground but floated high above the crumbling filth of the city.
And despite the loneliness and pain of their loss, part of you was happy that you were the last remaining Envoy. What would Quell think of this place? Or Desoto or Reileen or any of the other residents of Stronghold? What would Tak have to say about it?
Even thinking his name sent a sharp stab of pain through your heart. For the first few weeks, you had held onto some crazy hope that the mix up that happened with you could also happen with Takeshi. Afterall, you had both been captured and “killed” at the same time. If there had been a mistake in your storage, it was reasonable to assume there could be a mistake in his as well. But that hope had soon given way to realism. Tak was gone. And you were on your own. But even though you had accepted that fact, the ache of his loss never got any less.
Especially on nights like tonight. As snow began to drift softly around you, you couldn’t help but think about the last time you saw swirling white dust falling from the sky. Back when it had been the ash of your burning home as you watched as Stronghold was destroyed. But that was when you still had Takeshi at your side, in your arms.
You stuck out a hand to catch a flake as it twirled to the ground, and you were startled by the limb that reached out. All the other Envoys had been used to jumping from body to body, but this was the first time you were in a new sleeve. The first time you are in a skin that you weren’t born into. And even after all this time, you still hadn’t gotten used to how different it is: the coloring, the height, the shape, the level of fitness. You wondered what Tak would think of you now. Another stab of pain hit you as you approached your hotel.
Tumblr media
As you entered The Raven, you were shocked to find blood soaking almost every surface of the lobby. You had chosen this place as your hideout due to its rundown appearance and lack of other guests, but this was taking things a bit far. Poe noticed your arrival immediately and materialized at your side.
“Madam, I am terribly sorry, but we had a bit of an incident tonight.”
“Yeah, I can see that. What the hell happened?”
“We have a new guest.”
You just grunted in response. So far, you had been the only resident of The Raven and you liked it that way. But you had known there was always the possibility of other guests at some point. However, the worried look on Poe’s face seemed to point towards something more.
“What else?”
The AI looked nervously at the floor. “Well, you see, this gentleman made a specific request…. A room on the top floor.”
Your voice grew hard and deadly as you glared at him. “And what did you tell him?”
“I told him that floor was reserved for you…. But he insisted. He is being funded by one of the most powerful Meths in the city, so I wasn’t in a place to deny his request.”
A low growl sounded in your throat. You had grown accustomed to having the entire floor to yourself and you were not going to give it up without a fight. Especially not to some Meth lackey. There were hundreds of floors for this new arrival to pick from, but the top one was yours and yours alone. Of course, you could always move instead, but your Envoy intuition reminded you that the top floor was the best strategic location for both defense and offense. So, that left only one option.
“What room is he in?”
“Madam, I can’t just giv-”
“Room number Poe. Now.”
Tumblr media
As you rode the elevator up to the top of the building, you tried to calm yourself. It wouldn’t do any good to go in there guns blazing right off the bat. But you had already lost so much already, you weren’t about to give up this safe haven you had made for yourself.
The second you arrived at his door, you loudly and firmly pounded on it. When nothing happened, you raised your hand to try again, but just then the door swung open. Standing before you was a breathtakingly handsome man, whose features only seemed to be enhanced by the blood and bruises that littered his face. His damp hair was hanging limply over intense, hazel eyes. Even from here, you could tell he smelled like a strange mix of soap, blood, and cigarettes. As you trailed your gaze down, you could see both new and old scares scattered across his bare, broad frame all the way to the towel wrapped around his waist.
Reluctantly, you drug your eyes up to his face once more as you snarled, “Get the fuck off my floor.”
He didn’t even flinch at your attitude or your words. He just tried to silently close the door in your face, but you jammed your foot in the crack before it could close all the way. “I said. Get. The. Fuck. Off. My. Floor.”
The man met your furious gaze and calmly growled back, “No.” He put his hand on your chest and gave you a firm shove, catching you by surprise. As you stumbled back, he quickly took this opportunity to slam the door shut.
Furious, you steadied yourself before once again approaching the door. Fine. If he wants to be like that, two can play at that game. After quickly making a few mental calculations, you smashed your foot into the door right at its weakest point. It shattered, sending shards of wood scattering across the room as the remaining hanging piece swung open.
The man stared incredulously at what was left of his door as you calmly entered the room. “You know, that’s no way to treat a lady.”
“What the fuck! How did you do that?”
“Meth upgrades. Nice, aren’t they?” You flexed the muscle in your arm as you gave him a cocky smirk.
Suddenly, Poe once again materialized in front of you. “My monitors showed a disturbance in this ar-” The AI caught sight of what was left of the door. He sighed heavily. “Another one, madam?”
You shrugged. “I told you before. I’m still getting used to this new sleeve and I don’t always have control of my own strength. Just add it to my tab.”
Poe sighed wearily before muttering, “Very well.” And in a blip, he was gone.
Turning back to the man, you placed your hands on your hips, once again giving him the most intimidating glare this sleeve could make as you nodded towards the broken door. “Now, get the fuck out, or I’ll do that to your spine.”
The man rolled his shoulders as he shifted into a fighting stance. “Just try. You have no idea who the fuck you are dealing with.”
You smiled confidently, as you took your own combat position. “Bring it on, big boy.”
He launched himself at you and you dodged with a perfectly timed tuck and roll. Leaping up, you hurled your fist at his face, only for him to block it a split second before it made contact. He tried throwing you aside, but you used the momentum to gracefully flip over and land behind him. Sweeping out your leg, you attempted to throw him off balance. However, he predicted this action and he jumped just before you could knock him over.
Blow after blow was blocked. Maneuver after maneuver thwarted. It was if you anticipated his next move, your body reacting before your mind could process what was about to happen. However, he seemed to be doing the same thing.
You had never seen this man before in your life, you were sure of that. However, since when did that matter. This sleeve could be inhabited by anyone’s stack. Even…. No, it couldn’t be…
You froze as the idea hit you like a speeding bullet. You didn’t want to let yourself give into that hope once more, but only one person had ever fought against you like this.… As you hesitated, the man’s fist connected harshly with your jaw, sending you sprawling to the floor. But when you looked back up at him, the tears in your eyes were not caused by the pain of the impact. “Tak? Takeshi, is-is that you?”
For the first time the man seemed taken aback, his guard lowering just slightly. But whether it was by the name or your sudden change in demeanor, you weren’t sure. Before he could respond, you stood and cautiously reached out your hand. He flinched but allowed you to touch him.
Placing your fingers gently on the center of his forehead, you ran them across his hairline then down the side of his face, following his jaw. Then, just before you reached his chin, you lightly grazed them over his lips. It was the same gesture you had done a thousand times to Tak, your way of telling him I love you and I’m here for you.
The man licked his lips where your fingers had been seconds before. He stared at you intensely, not moving, not blinking. But just as you felt the blossoming hope in your chest start to wilt once more, he hesitantly whispered, “Songspire?”
Your heart exploded in your chest at the sound of Tak’s name for you. You fell into his arms, clinging tightly to him to make sure he didn’t disappear again. He ran his hand over your hair, down your back, clawed at your hips, trying to prove to himself you were real, not just another hallucination.
Tears in your eyes, you managed to choke out, “How? How are you here?”
The man – Takeshi – clutched your face in between his large palms. “I could ask you the same thing.”
“There was a mix up with my stack. I got spun up on accident then I managed to escape and I’ve been hiding out ever since. But what about you? Poe mentioned you’re working for a Meth?”
Tak grunted. “Not exactly by choice.” His voice was so much deeper and gruffer than you were used to, but now that you knew the truth, you could begin to feel your Tak underneath. “They needed someone with Envoy abilities to help track down who murdered one of them. It was either help them or go back on ice. I was planning on leveraging my help to get you a new sleeve, but I guess it’s not really necessary anymore.”
You pressed your forehead firmly against his. “Tak,” you whispered his name, still not fully believing any of this is real. “Please tell me this isn’t a dream.”
He shook his head. “It can’t be, because every night in my dreams, I lose you. But I will never let that fucking happen again.”
His lips crash into yours, the weight of 250 years of separation behind them. You returned the kiss with just as much passion. But as magical as this moment felt, it also seemed slightly strange and uncomfortable. Your new sleeves didn’t fit together the same way anymore. He was taller than before, broader and more muscular. And try as you might, you couldn’t figure out how to get comfortable against him. Everything just felt out of place.
Tak noticed your hesitation immediately. When he saw your face, he looked at you with complete understanding in his eyes. “The sleeves?” You nodded guiltily, but he just held your face in his hands. “It’s okay. I forgot this was the first time you had been resleeved. It takes a while to get used to how everything is different. But it’s still me and it’s still you. And that’s what matters.”
And you could see it, slowly but surely. As hard as it was to look past the gorgeous face in front of you, you could see the man underneath. The man that you loved. So, looking deep into his hazel eyes, you whispered, “Can you show me?”
Takeshi nodded as he gave you a wicked grin. Then he swept you into his strong arms as he carried you to his bed.

Hey I saw your post about questions about autism and that you were open to receive them. I hope this ask isn’t bothering you in any way or seems insulting. If so, I’m incredibly sorry.
Recently, I’ve had my suspicions that I might be on the spectrum. I highly empathize with the aspects of sensitivity to external stimuli (specifically noise and light), I believe some of my habits such as consistently tapping and moving my feet, and repeating back what others say.
I have an audio processing disorder and I am also transgender. (I’m aware that these two things have a correlation with being autistic.)
However, I feel like I don’t suffer any of the social problems that having autism can bring. Do you have to have these social interaction problems? Would a doctor take me seriously with my concerns?
there is a difference between traits and diagnostic criteria. The main manuals for diagnostic criteria are the DSM (by the APA) and the ICD (by the WHO). I prefer the ICD, because I am not American, it is freely available online, and its autism section is very detailed with divisions that actually make practical sense.
Here is the link: https://icd.who.int/browse11/l-m/en#/http://id.who.int/icd/entity/437815624
You can read it yourself, but the required features for the DX according to the ICD-11 are essentially as follows:
Limitations in initiating and maintaining social communication, and reciprocal social interactions. (for example, having trouble starting conversations, feeling like its very effortful to keep them going, having a lot of one-sided interactions where you do all the talking, etc)
Repetitive behaviour, interests, and activities (stimming, special interests, "black-and-white thinking" all fall under this)
These symptoms becoming obvious during childhood
These symptoms resulting in significant difficulties in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning (basically it means you have extra trouble working, at school, with friends, family)
So, basically, while there are a LOT of autistic traits there are only two that matter for a diagnosis: social ability and repetitive behaviour.
based on what you say, you may have the repetitive behaviour but you dont feel like you have the social ability part. It is possible that you do have social difference, there are several reasons why you might not realise that for example if you put a lot of effort into socialising as if common with presentations associated with femininity, or if all of your friends and family are more neurodivergent than average, or some other reason.
Or you might not be autistic. There are other neurodivergent conditions that have repetitive behaviour. I believe ADHD involves some, and the people with ADHD I know tend to be a bit more confident in their social ability (unless they are very generally anxious people which they frequently are, but comparatively...)
An important thing to remember is that diagnosis is not important or necessary for everyone. a lot of us grow up developing relatively functional "systems" for how to get around the gap between our behaviours and those of the neurodivergent population. And the state of support systems are so poor in most places that it may end up being a lot of money and time for very little benefit. I would recommend seeing a doctor about it if you feel you would benefit from accommodations at work or at school and these accommodations require a diagnosis in your country. Or if a diagnosis would be free in your country. I got formally diagnosed and I definitely needed it to progress, but I know that not everyone does. The community will largely be accepting if you feel you would like more informal support.
I am not a professional and this is not professional advice.

What role do you think ghira, ilia and the new white fnag will play in the vacuo arc? Besides having cute reactions to bumblby being a thing now.
I hope they don’t do a repeat of what happened at haven where the “good Faunus” save the racist humans so all the Atlesians have a “change of heart”. The last thing this show needs is more respectability politics lol.
Put of everyone ilia seems the most likely to tell the Atlesians to their face that they brought this upon themselves for their complacency in atlas many MANY societal injustices without trying to sugarcoat it.
Simply put? Helping to arm and aid Faunus who can fight, while aiding in taking care of those who cannot. Remember: there's not been a gathering of people this big since the olden days of Ozpin and Salem, so there's going to be MASSIVE tensions between every nation.
But of course, that's not all. The New White Fang is going to need to be one of the lines of aid and defense for the combined forces, and people are NEED to accept their help. I can see them telling off some racist asshat Atlesians who complain about how the "animals" are talking back now and threatening to leave them in the desert or something if they don't accept things as they're moving.
Also, just one other thing about Haven. The choice there was either leave the kingdom itself to die, not just the school, or go and help them. It took the Belladonnas nearly being assassinated and Blake's speech to get some Faunus to WAKE UP about the situation.
And if some people STILL want to cause problems? They can do so in the harsh, unforgiving desert sands. There's too much at stake to cater to racists, and since the show itself has shown our protagonists shutting them down and basically that their ideas don't matter or deserve time in the long run? I don't see any respectability politics being used at this point.
Mistral is arguably a work in progress for now, but Vacuo? Shit, the Atlesians and Mistralians are going to be lucky that Vacuoans don't rip them a new one BEFORE or ALONGSIDE the Faunus. I say this because Atlas and Mistral both drained Vacuo dry of resources following The Great War.
So. Calming the tensions or resolving them between nations is going to be...interesting, to say the least. I don't see The New White Fang prioritizing Atlas citizens (unless they're Faunus, were already poor, etc.) that decide to keep their horrible attitudes intact after everything its done to the world and the Faunus.
This isn't saying I'm wanting fights to break out or people killed, just the tensions to be a factor at this point. Old wounds reopening, a lot of social injustices being called out, the imperialism, colonialism, racism, you get the idea.
Any sort of division at this point only aids Salem, so this is going to be interesting to see how it's resolved. I do like that Ruby's message convinced so many to come to Vacuo. The world tensions aren't going to be solved overnight, but at least they can start by helping defend the kingdom.
TLDR: I want the NWF to help Faunus across the nations, and to be helping defend Vacuo alongside others. I'd also like them to be keeping tensions low, shutting down the racists, and proving to Salem how wrong she was to underestimate and discount Faunus.
The citizens of Atlas have lost their kingdom, homes, and livelihoods. I'd like at least one of the NWF to rub salt in the wound by calling them out on things the nation did, but they'd be one of many doing that. People of Vale would want answers for the Fall of Beacon, Vacuo for the colonialism of both Mistral and Atlas, and Mistral for their lack of support following Beacon's fall.
It doesn't mean that I think all citizens of Atlas necessarily deserve to be treated like dirt, but there's a lot the nation needs to answer for when all is said and done. In the meantime, ensuring people are able to defend themselves and taking no shit from the more bigoted of people from there will absolutely be a good start.

This is why we need a strong military. There’s lots of foreign propaganda infiltrating progressive social media urging the dissolution of our military. Imagine what would happen if we drastically cut our military. Russia would take Europe and China would take Southeast Asia. Billions would be enslaved. Trade would dry up. There would be world wide famine and shortages of everything. We would be under constant threat and would struggle to feed and fuel ourselves. Goods would dry up as foreign natural resources would stop as China and Russia tried to starve us out. The rare earth metals we rely on for our technology would disappear as most aren’t found in the US or Western Hemisphere. There would be a massive refugee crisis like the world has never seen and our hemisphere would be overwhelmed.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not for the massively corrupt and overfed military industrial complex the Republikkkans feed our tax dollars to. We can never return to the days of Reagan where trillions were given away to corporate defense contractors. But if you understand geo-politics you know the reality of the foreign bad actors waiting and scheming to bring us down. We are in the unique position of being a bi-coastal nation. This is good for trade but a nightmare for defense as we must essentially maintain to navies along with armies and aircraft to protect us on each coast. Nobody, including the United Nations, has the ability to act as the world’s policeman. It falls on us to help maintain stability for the good of all mankind.
Our group-political rivals will keep producing weapons and creating instability in their relentless drive to force us to overspend in the hopes of our collapse. That is why Russia meddled in our elections by supporting Trump and the Republikkkans. They want to destabilize and remove us from the world stage. We can’t meddle in the Middle East like Bush did with his forever wars. We must be fairer and more judicious in our use of diplomacy and military might.
China has surpassed us in the size of its navy to further their ambitions to reclaim Taiwan and suffocate trade rivals Japan and South Korea. Nearly all the world’s microchips come from China and Taiwan. Imagine if a hostile China seized Taiwan and the world’s microchip supply. It’s not as simple as building new factories as again we don’t have all the natural resources to produce in numbers or at a reasonable cost. Think of all the trade with Asia that would suddenly be lost.
Europe, for all its past mistakes, currently helps feed a large part of the world. They also produce a large portion of the world’s medicine, tech facilities, auto/ship/aircraft, and heavy machinery. They also educate a large portion of the world’s thinkers and doers plus take in millions of refugees.
Putin and Xi will never sit back and let us build a utopia. Fortunately our economy has proven able to supply bread and guns since the modern age began. However if we are to prosper and not just survive we must eliminate the Republikkkan redistribution of wealth upward. We need to end unnecessary wars and streamline our military production so it isn’t a disproportionate drain that cuts into social programs. We could have built a modern state with a prosperous population decades ago had it not been for the greed of the corporate oligarchy which is satiated by their Republikkkan puppets.
Republikkkans, and their corporate masters want us poor, divided, and uneducated. That is how they control us. Divide us by class, education, race, religion, and region. They are a numerical minority and can only hold power through division, voter apathy, and voter suppression. To paraphrase Lindsey Graham, they aren’t able to generate enough angry white Protestants to sustain their campaign. This is why they are suddenly going all out to seize permanent and total power now while they have a solid core block of disgruntled, radicalized, and misinformed southerners and rural types. To hedge their bets they are focusing heavily on Texas and Florida Hispanics turning the established families against the recent arrivals. One third of registered Hispanics now are Republikkkans. It’s a head scratcher but their organization and unlimited dark money never sleeps.

Writing SEO-Friendly Content: 7 Best Practices to Boost Your Rankings
Tumblr media
Captivating online content informs, educates, entertains - and ranks high on search engines. By following SEO best practices in your writing, you can better meet searcher intent and create content aligned to what users are looking for. This article outlines 7 key areas to focus on when optimizing your website content for higher Google rankings: 1. Conducting Keyword Research Thorough keyword research should serve as the foundation of any content strategy. Use Google's keyword planner and other tools to identify relevant target keywords and focused keyword groups based on search volume and competitiveness. 👌 Tailor content around focused keyword groupings around informational, commercial and transactional intents. For example, a dog training site could focus on keyword groups around topics like "puppy house training," "how to stop dog barking" or "agility training for dogs." Tailor content to match user intent - whether that's to research a problem, learn a new skill or make a purchase. 2. Skillfully Integrating Keywords Naturally weave primary and secondary keywords into your copy in a thoughtful, balanced way. Include keywords in key places like: - Page titles - Section headings - Opening sentences/paragraphs - Image file names and ALT text - URL slugs Over-optimization looks spammy to Google and annoying to readers. Aim for keyword density between 1-3%. (Source: aHrefs) 3. Crafting Truly Engaging Content Quality content presented clearly entices readers to stay and take action. Employ writing best practices like: - ⛹️‍♂️ Clear, scannable formatting with short paragraphs and bulleted lists - ⛹️‍♂️ A strong opening hook sentence that builds interest - ⛹️‍♂️ Subheadings to break up long sections of text - ⛹️‍♂️ Useful examples, stats, illustrations, and quotes to support claims - ⛹️‍♂️ Simple language and easily digestible sentences - ⛹️‍♂️ Generous white space 👍Compare various training methods or include a "step-by-step puppy house training guide" rather than merely stating them as best practices. Show readers the value. 👍Back up claims like "Excessive barking solved in 5 days" with specific stories and measurable results. Images depicting techniques also boost engagement. 4. Structuring Easy-to-Follow Content Logical content structure aids readers in digesting information easily. Best practices include: - Introduction explaining purpose and setting expectations - Main body with depth on 2-3 focus areas - Clear section divisions with descriptive headings - Concise conclusion summarizing key takeaways - Call-to-action for next steps Signpost transitions between sections. Craft descriptive yet concise subheadings like "How to Correct Excessive Dog Barking in 5 Simple Steps" to guide readers. 5. Optimizing Meta Descriptions and Titles SEO-friendly meta descriptions tease page content and meta titles concisely pique interest on the topic. Optimized meta tags can improve click-through-rates. 👎 Poor title: Dog Training Tips 👍 Better: "How to House Train Your Puppy in 7 Days | Step-by-Step Guide" 🏆 Keep descriptive meta descriptions under 160 characters. Include strong calls to action to click and continue reading more. 🏆 Ensure meta descriptions are unique across site pages and entice searchers to click to around 155 characters. 6. Harnessing Quality Links Links to authoritative, relevant external sources lend credibility and indicate subject-matter expertise. Cite sources when providing statistics, quotes or data. Reputable sites like AKC.org for dog training or links to expert guest posts build trust and authority. Use internal links across related site content to aid navigation and reinforce site structure. Link words like "house training" rather than just embedding the URL. 7. Understanding Search Intent Tailor content to different searcher intents - whether informational research, navigational queries, commercial purchase research or transactional readiness to buy. Align content to match the query intent: 🤔 Informational: "puppy training tips" --> in-depth, advice-led guides $ Transactional: "buy puppy training collar" --> product specs, deals, comparisons SEO content writing best practices conclusion Employing SEO best practices in your content approach sets you up for higher visibility and engagement. Conduct keyword research for relevance. Structure and format articles for maximum scannability. And craft valuable, intent-focused content tailored to what users are searching for. Follow these 7 keys for enhanced website seo content that drives more qualified organic traffic, leads and conversions. Read the full article

Unwell Women By Elinor Cleghorn
1945 to the Present
Chapter 15:
Page 317: reform. In July 1948, Bean inaugurated the National Health Service at Park Hospital in Davyhulme, Manchester. For the first time, all health care, medical treatment and medicines would be free at point of use from 'the cradle to the grave'. 'Everyone - rich or poor, man, woman or child - can use it or any part of it,' announced a leaflet sent to every household; 'But it is not a
"charity". You are all paying for it, mainly as tax-payers, and it will relieve your money worries in times of illness.'
Page 318: ‘An information film, broadcast on BBC Television, showed a young mother perusing her NHS leaflet. Wearing her floral dress, trench coat and natty hat she visits her Gl, who sits at his office desk wearing a suit and tie, to have her family's application forms signed. Another, instructing viewers to 'choose your doctor now', showed a woman talking with her similarly besuited physician while balancing her young son on her knee. In the wake of the war, housewives were morale-boosting backbones, rebuilding the country child by child, meal by meal, task by task. Domesticity had been re-spun as an invaluable national duty. The NHS promotional campaign capitalised on this image of the socially responsible, modern housewife. Taking charge of her family's health by making sure her husband and children were all NHS patients was just one of her valiant duties’.
Page 319: As well as emphasising how valuable women were to the welfare of the family - and the country - these campaigns also reinforced gender divisions in barefaced ways. Women played a privileged role as caregivers, but men remained the experts, the authori-ties. When the NHS launched, the majority of hospital doctors and GPs were white, male, upper middle class and privately educated. Social and welfare reform didn't mean that traditional medical beliefs underwent a progressive overhaul. Undeniably, the NHS was an enormous benefit for women, especially those who had been the victims of health-care inequality. Women like those surveyed by the Women's Health Enquiry Committee, who were forced to neglect their illnesses, diseases and iniuries because of economic insecurity and lack of health insurance, could now receive comprehensive GP care, hospital treatments, dental procedures, surgeries and prescription medications. 'It was such a relief, particularly to women with young children who could not afford to call the doctor out,' recalled Mary Dowlding, who began work as a receptionist at a GP surgery in Kent the day the NHS was launched.* But the NHS also inherited the legacy that women were child-bearers, first and foremost, so their healthcare needs pivoted around their reproductive functions’.
Page 330: Describes lobotomies
Chapter 16:
Page 333-334: "Stop Emotional Suffering in Chronic Disease' blared an advert, by Wallace Laboratories in 1959, for their wonder drug, Mil-town. Available since 1955 as a cure-all for anxiety, depression, nerves and fatigue, Miltown - a trade name for meprobamate, the first widely distributed minor tranquilliser - became the most popular medication prescribed by US doctors after just one year on the market. The earliest ads show exactly who Wallace imagined the happy pill-popper to be: a housewife struggling with the demands of running her home, raising her children and keeping a smile on her husband's face. Promotions for this 'miracle cure for anxiety' appeared in magazines like Cosmopolitan and Ladies Home Journal. Scores of editorials promised Miltown would alleviate domesticity-disturbing tensions. And women needn't worry - the tranquilliser was endorsed by doctors as a harmless, non-habit-forming way to gain a renewed ability to enjoy life. Leading health writers employed by public-relations companies penned articles claiming Miltown helped
'frigid women who abhorred marital relations' to 'respond more readily to their husbands advances. It goes without saying that most marital difficulties were blamed on some dysfunction of a woman’s body or mind. And women’s magazines were complicit in convincing readers that unsatisfying sex wasn’t their man’s problem’.
Page 334: Tell me, Doctor-a column in Ladies Home Journal in the 1950s
Discusses vaginismus
Page 336: ‘Like Premarin, the ostrogen supplement rushed to market in the 1940s, Miltown was designed to smooth over and quieten down women's burdensome feelings and troublesome symptoms. In the medical press, the drug was touted as a remedy for chronic pain, asthma, arthritis, rheumatic illnesses, gastrointestinal conditions and even MS.’
Page 337: In a 1960 medical advert for Meprospan (another brand of meprobamate), a woman sits at her physician's desk, gazing at her clasped hands. She is a 'tense, nervous patient', tormented by 'recurring states of anxiety which have no organic etiology'?
One 400mg capsule, taken at breakfast, leaves her calm enough to go grocery shopping. Another sees her through the preparation of her family's evening meal. And since she has 'enjoyed sustained tranquilisation all day', she remains 'relaxed, alert' and 'attentive enough' to live it up at the PTA meeting. Then she can sleep, 'undisturbed by nervousness or tension'.
Page 340: ‘The new cultural stereotype of the anxiously unwell housewife fuelled the production of benzodiazepines, like Valium, Librium and Serax, introduced to Britain and the US in the early 1960s.
Benzos were not thought to induce dependence. Ads cribbed the latest ideas about the relationship between domestic strains and mental ill-health, and they were stunningly gendered. One ad, by Wyeth, featured a woman slumped behind prison bars of mop and broom handles. 'You Can't Set Her Free, But You Can Make Her Feel Less Anxious', the headline exclaimed’.
Page 341: Benzo advertising constructed a very specific temale patient
- ravaged by imaginary illnesses, emotional excesses and unease about her place in society - who could be 'cured' with sleep and silencing. Like those women labelled 'hysterical' in the nineteenth century, she was being coerced into submitting to a potentially harmful 'cure' for a problem invented by medical men. The PR companies behind tranquilliser campaigns knew modern housewives were in the grip of a mental-health crisis. Their ads paid lip service to their struggles - but they also gaslit women into thinking the problem lay with their inability to adjust to their 'natural role. Medicine, for centuries, had cleaved to the idea that embracing domestic motherhood - and its attributes of docility, submissiveness and self-sacrifice - was the healthiest state for a woman's body and mind. Yearning for a life beyond the broom-and-mop prison had always been dangerously patho-logical. Like all those unnecessary gynecological surgeries and punishing treatment regimens imposed upon unwell housewives throughout history, tranquillisers were promoted as a sure-fire way to make frustrated women submit peacefully and pleasantly to their socially ordained role’.
Page 343: National Organisation for Women
Page 344: 1988 Bell Hooks: ‘Much feminist theory emerges from privileged women who live at the center, whose perspectives on reality rarely include knowledge and awareness of the lives of women and men who live on the margin’.
Page 349: Approval of birth control in UK 1961, but only to married women
Page 354: ‘In 1967, the NHS (Family Planning) Act was passed in the UK. Contraceptive advice and devices were now labile through local health authorities for all women over the age of sixteen regardless of socio-economic or marital status. The act also made abortion, for the first time in history, legal up to twenty four weeks pregnancy’.
Page 355: ‘In medical literature and clinical studies, television programmes, newspaper features and magazine articles in the UK and US, the dangers of one of history’s most game-changing drugs were becoming frighteningly clear’.
Page 356: DC Women’s Liberation handed out leaflets asking questions on the pill
Page 356: ‘Today-more than fifty years after researchers and activists forced this first wave of legislative change and pharmaceutical transparency-the effects of oral contraceptives are still not fully understood’
Page 360: ‘At community, grass roots and national levels, women would courageously and creatively begin to challenge, dismantle and rewrite centuries of medical oppression, suppression and mystification’.

Now.”

How the IMF loan-sharks the global south
Tumblr media
When you take out a loan or get a credit card, the headline figure is the “APR” — the annual percentage rate of interest. But anyone who’s ever borrowed because they were poor and needed money has learned the hard way that APRs are pure fiction.
To get the true APR (what economists politely call the “effective” APR) you have to factor in the fees, penalties and other gotchas that turn reasonable seeming interest rates into perennial, inescapable debt-traps.
Take student debt. During the 2020 presidential campaign, we had a debate about student debt forgiveness, whose opponents frequently cited the “unfairness” of allowing people to “escape their responsibilities.”
https://pluralistic.net/2020/12/04/kawaski-trawick/#strike-debt
In their telling, student debt forgiveness would reward fecklessness, allowing people who got the benefit of an expensive education to duck the costs.
Now, even if you ignore the farcical inflation in university tuition and expenses (for example, the 1000%+ hike in textbooks driven by ed-tech monopolists), that’s still a highly selective account of how student debt works.
Student debt is negotiated from a position of weakness and naiveté, which allows lenders to attack the poorest grads with incredible fees and penalties. “Chris” took out $79k in student loans in 1982. He’s paid back $190k. He still owes $236k.
https://taibbi.substack.com/p/student-loan-horror-stories-borrowed
That’s not the magic of compound interest. It’s the magic of loan-sharking. If you’ve ever used a payday lender (aka a “fintech startup” AKA a “loan shark”), none of this will be the least bit surprising. This form of usury is as old as Christ casting out the money-changers.
Tumblr media
The payday lending industry didn’t invent these tactics, but they refined, automated and industrialized them, then they spent millions at Trump hotels and (in a stunning coincidence) all those tactics were blessed by the US finance regulators.
https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-inc-podcast-payday-lenders-spent-1-million-at-a-trump-resort-and-cashed-in
The normalization of loan-sharking sent the entire finance sector into a race to the bottom. America’s largest banks saw their profits soar during the pandemic due to record overdraft and other fees — in other words, collecting fines for being poor.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/04/22/ihor-kolomoisky/#usurers
The sums are jaw-dropping. In 2020, Jpmorganchase made $1.5b on overdraft fees, Bank of America made $1.1b and Wells Fargo made $1.3b. The biggest rake came from the worst months of the pandemic.
https://prospect.org/economy/big-banks-charged-billions-in-overdraft-fees-during-pandemic/
78.3% of all overdraft fees come from just 9.2% of bank customers. At $35 a pop, these fees turn the banks’ overdraft facilities into loans with an “effective APR” of 3,500%.
Three thousand.
Five hundred.
Percent.
These are the cold, bloodless numbers of the debt trap. They conceal a vicious cycle in which those with the least pay the most, a cycled that can’t even be outrun in death.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/05/19/zombie-debt/#damnation
Take a moment to (re)read Molly McGhee’s Paris Review essay from May 2021, “America’s Dead Souls,” about her mother’s death. McGhee’s mom made less than $10k/year and suffered “debilitating depression while caring for aging parents.”
https://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2021/05/17/americas-dead-souls/
Her mother was haunted by two warring clans of ghouls: debt collectors who harassed her through legal and illegal means, and con artists who located her through databases of struggling debtors and tried to sell her predatory consolidation loans.
48 hours after her mother’s death, these blood-suckers switched to harassing McGhee, as she grieved her loss. Unlike her mother, McGhee had the resiliency and wherewithal (a credit card) to hire a lawyer, whose boilerplate letter reduced the debt by 90%, over $250k, poof.
If you can afford a lawyer, your parents’ debts don’t become yours. If you can’t, you enter a cycle of intergenerational poverty, with each generation sinking deeper into debt.
When you have nothing and owe everything, debt collectors know that they have to terrorize you into putting their bills ahead of the others. The cruelty is literally the point — without it, you might pay your rent ahead of your mother’s old credit-card bills.
To quote Umair Haque, “America is the the world’s first poor rich country.” an “advanced economy” where a sizable portion of the population lives in conditions typical of the global south.
https://eand.co/the-worlds-first-poor-rich-country-c411afc68539
Not for nothing. The same tactics that impoverish the vast American underclass also work to keep the world’s poorest countries — rich in resources and talent — poor. The loan shark here is far more powerful than a payday lender or even JP Morgan — it’s the IMF.
A new report from the Center for Economic and Policy Research dissects the way the IMF uses fees and penalties to trap the poorest countries in the world in unbreakable cycles of debt — fees that drive up the IMF’s notional APR to dizzying, usurious heights.
https://cepr.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMF-Surcharge-Report-2.pdf
Like any predatory loan, these “surcharges” are levied against the countries that have the least ability to repay. They target countries whose debt:GDP ratio passes an arbitrary line. For the poorest IMF debtors, surcharges account for 45% of all non-principle repayment.
These numbers add up. In Egypt, surcharges gobbled up $1.8b between 2019–24 — triple the cost of fully vaccinating the whole country. Small wonder that the world’s 64 poorest countries spend more on external debt payment than they do on their own health care.
In its defense, the IMF offers the same tissue-thin responses that any arm-breaker offers. The claim that penalties and fees are a way to “incentivize” debtor nations not to overborrow, and to seek their credit from the private finance sector.
But these countries are borrowing to pay off their debts — often debts that date back to colonial times, in which the rich (white) world mercilessly looted their resources and fomented destabilizing political divisions.
This undermined domestic resistance to imperialism and allowed kleptocratic, corrupt leaders to thrive — leaders who borrowed heavily to finance vanity projects, corrupt enrichment of domestic elites, and militarized suppression of opposition movements.
All of that was funded by debts, often from the IMF, who tied lending to the dismantling and sell-off of state enterprises, from power to water to sanitation — which is how the world’s poorest get gouged by the world’s richest to drink their own water.
These countries don’t borrow because they want to live outside their means — they borrow because they want to live. They don’t borrow from the IMF because they’re too lazy to ask a multinational bank for credit — they borrow because they can’t get credit elsewhere.
But the IMF has another excuse for this: they claim that the fees they extract allow them to originate more loans, creating a virtuous cycle. But as the report makes clear, this is absurd on its face.
The IMF went into the pandemic boasting about $1 trillion in “firepower” (that’s creepy-cutesey IMFspeak for “cash reserves”). Meanwhile, the annual revenues from these fees is $1b — that’s three orders of magnitude less than that “firepower.”
That means that the IMF could simply give up on these punitive fees, levied against the poorest people in the world, at an annual cost of 0.01% of its reserves. Literally, the cruelty is the point.
The point of all of this? The victims of usury are all in the same boat — in the USA and around the world. The same tactics, the same excuses, the same misery, from Cairo to the Caribbean to Cleveland.
Not all debt is created equal, of course. If you’re Elon Musk or Peter Thiel, you can get sweetheart loans and roll overs that let you avoid almost all taxation through the fiction that you earn no income, even as you amass hundreds of billions.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/06/08/leona-helmsley-was-a-pioneer/#eat-the-rich
And of course, if you’re a government with debts denominated in the currency you issue, it’s not really “debt” at all — the only way the US government can run out of dollars is by ordering its employees not to type more dollars into existence in a central bank spreadsheet.
Indeed, you couldn’t ask for a starker example of the difference between monetarily sovereign nations and postcolonial countries that owe debts in the currencies of their former conquerors. Venezuela can’t spend its way out of US dollar debt by creating bolivars.
Like McGhee’s mother, whose debts turned out to be fictions that disappeared as soon as a professional with credentials and access to the levers of power printed out a boilerplate letter, these countries’ debts are cruel fictions.
The powerful and wealthy can indulge these fictions or ignore them, as they choose. For example, finance-friendly politicians can insist that the “debt ceiling” must not be raised, for political purposes.
When the US declines to do the trivial data-entry that would make the money to pay its sovereign “debts,” the consumption that the money would have funded still takes place — financed not by the democratic state, but rather by a loan-shark.
National financial “prudence” interrupts the normal and benign process of sovereign money-creation, opening space for usury — private borrowing from the vampires and ghouls whose 3,500% APRs are redeemed through terror.
The cruelty is the point.
