List of random dialogue prompts (pt. 3)
“Truth be told? I miss the times — the me — before I fell in love with you.”
“You know, I can see myself in, on top of, or under you. What do you say?” “I can see you buried six feet under my very feet if you don’t stop joking about this shit with me.”
“Was there a point when you fell out of love with me?” “There was a point when I fell in love with you, but never out.”
“When did you fall out of love with me?” “That’s the thing: I never fell out of love with you. You’re the one who fell out of love with me.”
“Right person, wrong time… What if this is the right time? We’re just the wrong people for each other.”
“You have me wrapped around your fingers. Crazy part is, I don’t mind it.”
“Don’t forget this: I made you. I can easily break you if I wanted to.”
“I shared pieces of me, with so many people, and none of them kept those pieces safe, and I don’t know if I can risk that with you because it would devastate me if you turn out to be the same as them all. I would be completely destroyed.”
“Don’t give me that look.”
“You okay?” “No. I need hugs. From you. I need you to hug me.”
“I just wanna fucking get over you so I can be okay again.”
“Stop trying to remind me that you’re still in my life. I’m trying to not think about you, for God’s sake.”
“I wanna kiss you so badly right now but we’re in public and I know you hate public display of affection—“ “I’ll allow you to do it this time.” “Wait… Really?”
“I make shitty decisions and you’re a testament to that matter.”
“I have things to do, and most of them include me trying not to think about you.”
“I’ve never cried because of someone, you know? I didn’t have anyone to cry over. You’re the first, and you’ll also be the last, or so God help me through this embarrassment.”
“Breaking up with me does not mean you had to kick me off your Spotify playlist, you know? Because damn. As much as I’m upset, your list had some bangers.”
“You don’t get to do decide my feelings for you.”
“I’m not bitchless, you fucking dickhead. Take that back!”
“Every little thing reminds me of you, which sucks because you’re not in my life anymore.”
“It’s kinda weird not seeing your name on my phone when I wake up. It’s gonna take me some time to get used to this.”
“I think I knew this wasn’t going to last when I realised it’s not that I trust you. It’s that I don’t care what you do, and who you might be fucking around with.”
“One text from you has me happier than a child whose mother bought them their favourite candy. It’s not okay.”
“I don’t share my Spotify playlist with just anyone. It’s like a secret love language of mine, reserved for those I want to let in. You’re one of them, yet you’re here thinking I don’t feel the same way about you?”
“I dunno, I just… Kinda fell for you.”
“You’re the reason why I fell in love with you. You, as a whole.”
“There are some songs that I can’t listen to anymore, because they remind me of you; of all the times we’ve had together. And it sucks because some of them are great songs. And you fucking ruined them, you asshole.”
“I’m tired of acting like I don’t care, because I do. I fucking do, and that’s what makes this even worse.”
“One thing you should know about me is that I suck at letting go.”
“So you’re telling me I’m supposed to sit here and give a fuck? You couldn’t pay me enough to do that. I have places to be and things to do.”
“You need to stop being such a dramatic bitch.” “It’s the only way I can entertain myself, okay? Now piss off and leave me be.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t have let you go.”
“You deserve someone better than me—” “You don’t get to decide that for me.”
“You ever think about how good we could have been together?” “Yeah. I think about it all the time, and then I remember how badly you fumbled. So yeah, good job.”
“You’re blushing.” “I’m not.” “…Then I guess I’ll have to give you something to blush over.”
“I lost myself while trying to find the good in you.”
“I think it’s comforting that they’re somewhere out there… Even if we never speak again, you know? They were a part of my life, even if it was only for a little while. They made me feel good, even if it was only for a short amount of time.”
“Remember when you said you’d catch me when I fell? Well, you’re a fucking liar. Figuratively and literally. Now I’m hospitalised and also emotionally scarred. I hope you’re fucking happy about that.”
“If we break up, I’d look for you in other people and be reminded that they are not you, and that I’d never find someone like you again. And… I don’t think I can bear the thought of that.”
“I give you permission to break my heart.” “And I give you permission to end me if I ever do break your heart.”
“I have things to do—“ “And I’m one of them.”
“You’re only saying sorry because you want to make yourself feel better, so you can go shove that sweet apology up your ass because it doesn’t mean shit. I hope you continue to feel like shit over what you did, because I’m never forgiving you.”
“I had expectations for someone I knew couldn’t meet those expectations, so that’s my fault for expecting anything from you at all.”
“You? Breaking my heart? It’s funny how you think you even have that power over me.”
“You were like a routine that I loved and it felt… comfortable. But I guess that’s not the case anymore.”
“You fell in love with the idea of someone that wasn’t even real. You fell in love with your own projections. How are you so foolish to think that it would have worked out?”
“I’m fine. Of course I’m fine.” “Everything about this interaction is telling me you’re not fine — not even close.”
“The idea of us was perfect. Blame me for thinking it would turn out into something good and as fantastical as what I made it out to be in my head.”
“Because no matter what I do, I can’t stop thinking about you and it’s about to drive me to the very brink of insanity, so if you’ll excuse me for not wanting to be near you, that would great.”
“I would not be who I am today if not for you.”

Dear listener, I rarely post hip hop, and when I do its usually so deep underground that a brief, intermittent ray from the sun would strike it fuckin’ blind. I like hip hop that is bizarre and experimental and for the last year or so, I’ve been getting increasingly deeper into phonk; a darkly themed and distorted subgenre of trap. The primary reason that I enjoy phonk is because it seems to be a modern worldwide trend for regular people with audio software to create this kind of music from nothing more than disparate samples, which is based on old school Memphis rap and southern hip-hop styles. And while I wish I could tell you a whole lot more about the artist showcased this week, like a lot of other phonk performers, SPYDER550 seems to enjoy his anonymity. Smash play and enjoy GODDD MODE from 2019’s ACID THUG.
Tumblr media
As much as I enjoy giving my audience on Tumblr a proper overview of who the artist is, what they stand for, etc… sometimes I can’t dig up anything of substantive value. SPYDER550’s Instagram is here, his SoundCloud is here, his Spotify page is here, and I found a slightly more robust profile that seems legitimate enough here. You, yes you that is reading this, feel free to go ahead and Google this artist for yourself and tell me if you can possibly draw a clearer picture of the person behind the music than I did here. I suppose I should be relieved; generally speaking, there is TOO MUCH information on certain musical acts that I post, and here is a good example of the polar opposite. From what little I was able to ascertain from my research for this post, 550 is very new to the worldwide music scene, having their first album out in 2019. As far as I can tell, they’ve released at least five albums since then, all under 10-tracks at a stretch. I can’t even tell with 100% accuracy where this artist is located on the planet. One profile says they are from Russia, another says they’re based out of Finland, and another says Memphis, Tennessee… which I’ll assume is just a throwback to Memphis rap (i.e. the music his own sounds are based on). I don’t even know if the above picture is really 550, or even what the hell his real name is. But you know what? None of that really matters, because I’ve been bouncing from tune to tune wherever I can find his music online, and I can tell you there’s a lot of noticeable raw talent here. Each individual tune I’ve found by this artist is intriguing, catchy, and thoughtful in its own unique way. His musical arrangements possess a haunting quality that is often repetitive, but repetitive in a good way, all while managing to be enchantingly mesmerizing. Like a lot of phonk artists, you can bet your bottom dollar that 550 ‘chops and screws’ a lot of his tracks together using various samples directly from the internet (including the vocals most likely). Just below is another bizarre banger, Toxic Face from 2021’s SPYDELIC. Enjoy!
youtube
I try to put as much research that I can stand into these musical entries, and sometimes, there’s just not a lot of meat on the bone. That said, if you liked the music in this post, click here, and here, and here for more. It’s just about all I can do to fully inform you of this artist’s existence outside of hiring an internet sleuth to ascertain more. Image source: https://www.viberate.com/artist/spyder550/

Why does a man seek to destroy the world?
TIME FOR DOING EMBROIDERY AND LOSING MY MIND OVER MAG 160; THE EYE OPENS (oh god oh no oh god)
(i think the first time i was listening to this i was makind dinner and i was just. losing. my. shit. Obviously)
(teasing) Anyways, don’t tell me the phonebox down there doesn’t appeal to your retro aesthetic.
can we talk about how Jon REMEMBERED a small thing Martin said ONCE while he still kinda hated him?
MARTIN: I mean, they’ve finished all the interviews? Apparently they’re calling it a “terror attack.” ARCHIVIST: Doesn’t surprise me. (heh) Appropriate, in a way.
..... (imagine the news tho if it got out that legit paranormal stuff was happening)
ARCHIVIST: Let me know if you see any good cows MARTIN: Obviously I’m going to tell you if I see any good cows.
isnt it funny how nothing after this moment ever happened :'))) (i swear EVERY TIME i see cows i go "omg good cows / is that a tma reference??"
Hello Jon. Apologies for the deception, but I wanted to make sure you started reading, so I thought it best not to announce myself.
NO GOD PLEASE NO
[The Archivist makes a pained couple of sounds out-of-statement-character, as if he’s trying to tear himself away from the statement and physically cannot.] [When he picks the statement back up, the words sound like they’re being torn from his lips.]
CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW FANTASTIC JONNYS VOICE ACTING IS HERE???? he even sounds like Elias...... help
Why does a man seek to destroy the world?
because you're a stupid bitch man jonah, hope this helps <3
It’s a simple enough answer: for immortality and power. Uninspired, perhaps...
"why is it always immortality, why does no one ever want anything more interesting?" (jonah magnus is a basic bitch)
All this talk about the freedom of being evil and destroying the world... i mean i guess but you could also.... not do this?! have you considered the joy of making the world a tiny bit better. he's a coward.
I am to be a king of a ruined world, and I shall never die.
WAIT HE ACTUALLY SAID THAT?? i thought that was one of that fanon quotes
Jonah / Elias' backstory is so interesting and i wanna punch him i HATE that his plan worked. i'm 100% convinced tho that the web was always pulling some strings, Jonah is giving himself waaaay too much credit
Gertrude would HATE knowing that she contributed to him figuring out his ritual...
How is Martin, by the way? He looks well. You will keep an eye on him when all this is over, won’t you? He’s earned that.
ELIAS I WILL STAB YOU WITH MY NEEDLE!!! (i know we say Elias is gay AND homophobic but he said gay rights here)
i gotta saw the summoning, for lack of a better word, is a absolute BANGER; it's so powerful
I – OPEN – THE DOOR!
CLOSE THE DOOR JONATHAN
MARTIN (frantic) Wake up. Wake up. Wait, John, John, John, WAKE UP! [He slaps the Archivist; the Archivist immediately shudders awake with a disoriented yell.]
😭😭😭
No. No, it’s everywhere. They’re all here now. (voice shaking – but in awe?) I can feel all of it.
wouldn't it be funny tho if the apocalypse was just contained to the UK? if they hadn't left the EU it would be the EU too but the fears respect their decisions.
Look at the sky, Martin. Look at the sky. It’s looking back.
this quote HAUNTS me TO THIS DAY!!!!

-> Amelia, “you’re like, the only person who actually gets me besides Karissa and Pandora”
Nathaniel

Josiah
-> Pandora, “You’re in a similar situation that I’m in, but you seem to be less equipped than I am. Maybe I could help?”
-> Noah, “You are a very scary man. I don’t take kindly to how much you engage in murder, but your reason is honorable at least.”
-> Ambrose, “Maybe tieflings aren’t as bad as I thought…”
-> Constance, “You fight for what’s right, I was wrong about you.”
-> Nathaniel, “You need to look in yourself and address why you feel so angry.”
-> Natasha, “I know what it’s like to be in someone else’s shadow…”
-> Nico, “You’re conflicted, but that’s alright. You’re not supposed to have everything figured out.”
-> Lilith, “I’m fine…”
-> Karissa, “You’re getting better at using fire in combative ways!”
-> Owen, “You are a criminal…”
-> Barbara, “You are also a criminal…”
-> Chance, “I think you’ve had divine intervention. No normal person would’ve survived your injuries”
-> Amelia, “I’m sorry that people of my beliefs have tried to kill you, your distrust of me is founded and I respect it.”
Karissa:
-> Pandora, “You’re super cute! Love your hair :)”
-> Noah, “I’m glad you like my music!”
-> Ambrose, “big brother”
-> Constance, “big sister”
-> Nico, “I could play you a song if you’d like, just to ease the nerves”
-> Nathaniel, “Wow, rude.”
-> Natasha, “Maybe I could take your mind off of the situation for a little bit?”
-> Lilith, “Got any new songs? I was thinking we could sing about each of the members of The Crux once we know them better!”
-> Josiah, “thanks for keeping Lilith and I grounded Josie”
-> Owen, “yikes, scary…”
-> Barbara, “scary but in like, a mom way.”
-> Chance, “You seem like you have plenty of stories to tell, tell me them all! I want to sing about them!”
-> Amelia, “Thanks for the fire resistance but I’m a tiefling lol.”
Chance:
-> Pandora, “Champion huh? Ain’t you a special snowflake.”
-> Noah, “I respect what you’re doin’ kid, I’m all for it.”
-> Ambrose, “It’s the quiet ones that getcha”
-> Constance, “Yeah yeah stop badgering me…”
-> Nico, “My guy, you need to toughen up a little bit like your brother”
-> Nathaniel, “Okay maybe not that tough”
-> Natasha, “Go your own way kid, don’t stick in the shadow of your daddy”
-> Lilith, “Now that’s a way of life I can get behind”
-> Josiah, “A religious man, I respect that.”
-> Karissa, “You mind tellin’ me what your life used to be like, sounds interestin’ :)”
-> Owen, “That’s a whole ass criminal right there”
-> Barbara, “Glad to see you’ve improved Barb.”
-> Amelia, “For a “witch” you’re a pretty nice person”
Barbara:
-> Pandora, “Another rich kid… at least you don’t seem to be as bad as the others.”
-> Noah, “Hon I appreciate what you’re doing but uh, ya all right?”
-> Ambrose, “You and your sister are alright.”
-> Constance, “callin’ me out for bein’ an ass. I respect that.”
-> Nico, “hon you need to grow a thicker skin, I’m not expecting you to be perfect at first though.”
-> Nathaniel, “Well aren’t you a bundle of issues? I’m here when you wanna talk little boy.”
-> Natasha, “Another follower of the god of death? Seems we might get along.”
-> Lilith, “Be careful who you trust sugar.”
-> Josiah, “I hope the paladin thing works out for you.”
-> Karissa, “Running away and joining a group you never intended to be a part of… sounds familiar.”
-> Owen, “Lord, please take care of yourself. I’ll uh… I’ll kick your ass if you leave me with all these kids by myself.”
-> Chance, “Good to see you, Sheriff”
-> Amelia, “Glad we got to you before those townsfolk did.”
Owen:
-> Pandora, “You’re one of Diana and Alexander’s kids, aren’t you?”
-> Noah, “Sorry about your mom, kid.”
-> Ambrose, “I hope your brother sees the wrong in what he’s doing…”
-> Constance, “I hope you learn to detach yourself from your parents”
-> Nico, “Try not to be scared of everything kid, there’s too much good in the world to be scared of everything.”
-> Nathaniel, “…”
-> Natasha, “See yourself for who you are and not what you think you should be.”
-> Lilith, “You can have alcohol so long as you clean up after yourself.”
-> Josiah, “You and your sis are polar opposites”
-> Karissa, “Try to be a little more cautious, there’s still some shitty people out there.”
-> Barbara, “Yeah yeah, I’m trying…”
-> Chance, “Good on you for surviving, I can help you with your prosthetics if you’d like, got a few of my own actually…”
-> Amelia, “Thanks for helping with the pain, I appreciate it more than you know.”
Amelia:
-> Pandora, “I wish I could fix your situation… I wish I had something to fix your undead-ness”
-> Noah, “You aren’t human, are you?”
-> Ambrose, “I have just the thing to help you with your muscle pains!”
-> Constance, “I have something to help you in you and your brother’s fight against your literal demons”
-> Nico, “Ohhh! That’s a creative way to build a prosthetic :0”
-> Nathaniel, “You’re so reckless and yet so careful”
-> Natasha, “I have a mana potion if you need it for practice”
-> Lilith, “You’re not getting a health tonic after this, you get drunk too much, and I need those tonics for something else.”
-> Josiah, “I may have something that could help with the visions if you’d like…?”
-> Karissa, “A fire protectant potion just for you!”
-> Owen, “I wonder if the health and regeneration tonics are helping him…”
-> Barbara, “You’re pretty healthy! Good job!”
-> Chance, “stop being so careless you jerk >:T”

What are your thoughts on the song The Other Man
Someone giving me an excuse to talk about Sloan??? Oh my fucking god anon, I’m in love with you, please marry me. Congratulations this is what has officially gotten me to post for the first time in like a year🫡😭
The other man is the Dumbfuck Lesbian Anthem fr fr… ok not really lmao but it was MY anthem during my late teens/early 20s when I was a raging dumbfuck asshole chasing women I definitely shouldn’t have been with.
“You know he's not the one for you but that's no fault of mine. He knows that I'm a friend of yours but doesn't know I've crossed the line. I know you've got a man in the picture but it hasn't stopped me yet…”
I mean… come on lol. You can’t tell me a lesbian cover of this song wouldn’t be an absolute fucking banger.
For a, like, feminist analysis of the song…look, I’ll fully admit to being a giant hypocrite and super biased because I love Sloan and have hung out with all the guys before/after shows for the past 10 or so years I’ve been seeing them live. I’ve been listening to them since I was like 11. I fucking love this stupid band. I have a lot of good memories associated with them. One of my best friends who passed away loved the band too, so they’re just really special to me.
That said, is the song misogynist? Yeah, women aren’t, like, objects for men to fight over. Men acting like they’re the victims of their own actions are gross. It’s about the time in 2002 when Chris was dating the singer Leslie Feist at the same time she was dating another guy named Andrew from a different band and how pretty much everyone except Andrew knew about it.
It also talks about how Leslie didn’t know there were rumors (“He's going to find out that the rumours are true, though they are still unbeknownst to you. He'll find out, so I'll tell you because, you gotta find out before he does.”) which is something he seems…proud of? Idk, I’ve never liked that part of the song. Well, the part of the song is fun to sing lol, but I never liked those lyrics because it just feels like a man flexing his power over a woman, getting off on her not knowing everyone knows her secret. It’s gross.
Chris has never been creepy or weird or misogynistic to me or anyone I know in the years I’ve known him, and he’s had multiple opportunities to take advantage of my friends and I, especially at the shows I go to alone. BUT, if anything comes out about him, I’ll believe the victim. I don’t care how well I know a man, I’ll always believe a woman first and foremost and I never allow myself to like/trust a man enough to believe he’s above being a piece of shit.
If you have more Sloan questions let me know lol I will yap about this band all fucking day if you let me

hi i want punk recs! currently literally the only two things i consisently listen to are my chemical romance and joy division. my previous attempts of getting into punk have been thwarted by the fact that i dont like overtly political lyrics? like im ok with political music i just prefer the lyrics to be a bit more.. metaphorical about it. if thats too much to ask tho feel free to dunk on me
Mcr and joy division are sick as fuck good choices
Punk is by nature a more political genre and so finding bands that don’t discuss politics in their lyrics is uncommon, but I understand the search for something less blunt at times.
For recommendations, I would start with emo-adjacent bands a la my chemical romance. Here are some off the top of my head:
Senses Fail - one of the first punk bands I’ve gotten into, and still one of my favorites. Their sound ranges from post-hardcore to emo to pop punk to metal-ish. If you don’t know those genres that’s fine, they just have a LOT of variety in their songs. Lyrics can occasionally be political but can also be concept albums like mcr, or deal with mental illness, being queer, personal stuff, etc. highly recommended
AFI - their old stuff is more purist punk but their more recent material is more emo/alt rock even. Another very diverse sounding band that’s highly recommended.
Pinkshift - one of the best new bands to the scene, a huge favorite. They’re supported by anti-flag, so you know they’re legit. Only one full album right now and it’s full of bangers.
Alkaline Trio - a more gothic punk act that, they have a very large discography so there’s likely something to love! Radio is perhaps one of the most iconic breakup songs.
The interrupters - punk infused with a bit of ska, very fun and catchy songs, some songs are more political but others are about punk community and overcoming hurdles in life.
Jawbreaker - one of the most iconic acts, one of the big inspirations for the emo scene, too. Community heavily divided one what is their best album but I think they’re all fantastic.
Misfits - shocked I didn’t think of this one sooner, as they’re a huge influences on my Chem. Horror punk that has some, uh, I suppose ‘problematic’ themes at time but is a classic for good reason (like most horror).
I think those are some good starting points… I hope they at least set you in the right direction!

i was watching something on youtube last night and then on the side saw a song and i was like “i have no idea who this is but ima give it a listen cause i need new music” so i click it and at first at the beginning since it was a lil slow i was like “mmmm dont think this is gonna be up my alley” so i skim some forward and right when i heard her singing, my jaw dropped, and it stayed dropped the entire rest of the song
oh my god, Pandora by Suzuna Nagihara. This type of music is typically not up my alley (like i’ll find it cool but i wouldnt download it) BUT over the course of the song, the song just got more epic and epic and im like HOLY SHIT??? with every new section. Very JRPG, Nier-like, epic, full of choruses, and the banger part is the synth bEATS that are incorporated into it which i fuckin love.
But that’s not what captivated me. What captivated me was her VOICE. Her singing. oh my god. idek where to start. It’s so airy, breathy, and LIGHT, yet she still manages hit the stronger notes at the same time when she needs to. But even her stronger notes sound light and open. Idk if it’s the help of the mixing of the song or not but omg, just, the way she sings this song fITS SO WELL FOR THIS TYPE OF SONG AND JUST WORKS SO WELL AND IT JUST MAKES THE SONG S TIER. and i love it so much. Voice aside though, the song is just kinda insane, i love the distortion/glitch at 0:44. i think it was a great way to introduce the faster speed of the song/transition into the actual (?) song. As if the part before 0:44 was just a prologue (as she sings in the lyric) ((Though I feel like the song actually starts at 1:40))
I obviously then checked out her other stuff and she does a ton of JP song covers, and of course they’re all very good, but there are definitely certain songs that works better for her voice, cause I don’t think she’s a big belter (though she can, of course). She tends to sing best with her head voice (?), which makes me think that her cover of Kaede’s Koikaze from Cinderella Girls was one of her better covers. Not saying her other covers were bad, but Koikaze and her original song Pandora are up up up up there. Singing in a head voice/falsetto is definitely her stronger suit and more to her.
Her regular speaking voice is also very nice :)))))))))))))))))
Anyway go check the song out pls thank you, i never usually bother with writing this much about something that isn’t a sad post, SO THAT JUST SHOWS HOW POWERFULLY THIS SONG/HER VOICE HIT ME.
youtube
It’s also on the quieter side for some reason so u gotta boost ur volume, it might have been on purpose but that was a Bad choice to do that imhO. this song needs to be LOUD.
Also one last note: the part from 3:57-4:04 is so chilling cause of the way she sang it, that emotion sounded SO, SO RAW. whether she was acting or not (maybe most likely ?) it was so jaw dropping, i remember my jaw dropping more than it already dropped and breaking my floor when i got to that part for the first time.
TLDR: I love Suzuna’s Nagihara’s voice a lot, especially in her original song called Pandora, so give it a listen :)

We Watched Eurovision 2023 (from the US. Texas, no less.)
Tumblr media
I will be accused of only watching Eurovision 2023 because this edition was co-hosted by actor/ singer/ performer Hannah Waddingham of Ted Lasso fame.  First - how dare you.  Second - she looked amazing.
We've all heard of Eurovision, but until recently, it didn't air here in the US that I'm aware of.  In recent years we'd see twitter going bananas for it, but it was during daylight and work hours, and it was very unclear what was occurring over there.  But folks of all ages and walks of life seemed into it, so I think that piqued the curiosity of some of us.
Right at the start of COVID, I remember watching the Eurovision movie starring Will Ferrell, and it gave me *some* clue as to what was happening and how it worked, but, honestly, raised more questions than it answered.
Tumblr media
what needs no explanation is Hannah's gown on Night 2 of the semi-finals
Then, two years ago, Jamie left me alone at home in the middle of the day - and I cannot imagine where she went, because this was *prime* COVID-hiding time.  But, left alone, I saw on twitter that Eurovision was happening, and that it was on Peacock.  I planned to tune in for fifteen minutes to check it out, but wound up sitting totally locked in for probably 3.5 hours (the finals this year ran 4:15).  Returned home, Jamie caught a bit of it, but didn't get the full deluge of sitting, trying to figure out what the hell we were looking at as act after act took the stage.
Some of you will know the winners from that year (2021), Italian rock outfit Måneskin.  They're pretty solid!
Last year we had a multi-day family event and missed the whole thing.
But this year, nothing was going on. And, again, Waddingham was there, so I tuned in.
One of the challenges of Eurovision, much like soccer here, is that it airs on commercial-free TV.  Asking American TV to carry something they can't break up with commercials every few minutes is unheard of.  Or was until the advent of streaming platforms.  And now I get soccer and Eurovision.  And probably detective shows about like, British cookie-tasters solving polite murders in quaint small towns.
I've mentioned to a few (US) people that I was watching, and to a person, they've said, "So, what is that?  Like... American Idol?"
That's not a dig on the people who put it that way, but it is very hard to explain the scope of Eurovision to Americans who have spent two decades bombarded by terrible singing and talent competitions that mostly rely on your knowing who the judges are and listening to bad covers of music you previously liked.
Tumblr media
I would judge all gowns here a smashing success
Eurovision is the final round of about 37 participating countries from Europe and Australia.  It's more like the World Cup of song competitions as each of these performers has already been selected by their country in local competition.  Of course, local competion means one thing in England and another in San Marino (which has a population of 30,000+ people).
The finals see 26 countries, and - friends - I have no real idea how this works.  Like, UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain just show up for the finals but not the semi-finals?
The music is pop, but it's not necessarily what Americans think of when they think of pop.  Not that, here at age 48 and with zero kids (I'm aware of) to my name, that I would know what current pop sounds like.  But I am pretty sure, based on the fact I live a part of the country where Cumbia and Tejano are gigantic going concerns, "pop" is different for different people.  So, across, 37 countries, you get some interesting stuff.  That's to say, don't necessarily expect (checks Billboard) Miley Cyrus. But get an Albanian family-band dressed in disco versions of local folk-wear and turning an anthem into a banger.
It's also worth noting, the music swings between folks looking for radio stardom and folks putting it on the line as House or, really, Novelty acts.  I may vote for someone because they're entertaining as hell on this show, but I may not put them on my everyday playlist.  And that's fine.  We aren't making any life or death decisions here.
Tumblr media
what is a great decision was the wardrobe for the first part of the finale.  Great jacket, Graham.
Eurovision is a *friendly* competition that happens when you live in a place with actual history and less monoculture, and the overall competition is deeply not-American.  No one here gives a flying @#$% about the US and our pop scene.  But what they are celebrating is that they all bring their best game, everyone gets a chance, and you basically get to party in the audience for 4 hours.
There are no judges influencing voting or destroying the souls of the contestants.  There is some weighted voting before the popular vote is counted that's a bit like the Electoral College where countries send their 12 votes in.  Oh, and, by the way - you can't vote for people from your own country.  Just imagine.  We'd burn the show down here in the US.
The performances have set pieces, light shows, screen shows, dancers.  It's big and it's... a lot.  And that's kind of the fun of the thing.  Everything is cranked up to 11, and it's pop songs, so even if one song isn't your bag, it's only going to be 3 minutes and out.  But the musicians/ artists really need their act together.  So every song is a little bit of performance art as well as delivery of a single.
Tumblr media
speaking of art: Hannah's final look from Eurovision 2023
Do they lip-synch?  I assume so.  There's a lot of dancing and rolling around and other things that make live singing seem unlikely.  Nor do people have instruments in hand all the time, or are bands seen.  And that's fine.  Who cares?  It's performing to a song as much as performing a song.
Whichever country wins then hosts the next year's competition, which, to be honest, does not seem like enough time to get all of this together.  But I'll assume they know what they're doing.
However, this year's Eurovision was held in Liverpool, despite the fact the UK was runner-up in 2022.  The winner of 2022 was Ukraine, and...  Americans could do well to see how this was handled.
Yes, the UK provided three hosts (including Waddingham and Graham Norton), but they also very much included Ukraine in the proceedings, starting with a Ukrainian rock-star host, Julia Sanina (who was really good, and realized she could also cut loose like Waddingham by show's end).  But there were also Ukrainian acts who played the voting interval and other segments, and repeated call outs to Ukraine.
If Russia wasn't feeling isolated before, seeing dozens of European countries in complete support of Ukraine (and never mentioning Russia directly) had to have felt like a massive PR problem that no psy-ops are going to erase.  And, after the war in Ukraine has dragged on, it's a welcome reminder of the continued war and need to maintain and demonstrate support for Ukraine.
The show also both implicitly and explicitly made calls for inclusivity and equality.  And, friends, that's something I hope we can all agree on.
I am unsure if I'll watch both semi-finals and finals next year.  It'll depend on time available.  As Sweden's Loreen won, Waddingham won't be involved next year (I assume).  But that's not a deterrent from watching.
By the way, (a) it seems like non-Ted Lasso fans discovered Waddingham this week and are here for her, and (b) at least two guys who were announcing who their countries were voting for clumsily attempted to flirt with Waddingham.  Shoot your shot, king.
The voting is dramatic and stressful, and much more interesting than the hammy results delivery on most American reality gameshows.  The combo of scores to a total feels immediate and less...  architected.  And, I have no idea what the demographic is for the show, because Non-Threatening Boys did not do well, but hyper-real weirdos did fantastic.
My personal favorite acts were Croatia, Austria, Moldova, Lithuania, Finland, and, yes, winner Sweden, who I had to keep my mouth shut about because Jamie was not having a previous winner coming back to win again. Also, all things being equal, the Italian guy was good but not my favorite.

update timeeee
Ello there guvnor! tis I! Huzzah!
Yeah i dont know what that was either. hello hello! much better. it has been a little longer than expected to update but i wanted to wait until after my exams finished to give you a reply!
first of all, i think I've only ever had a tomato once. my grandma gave me one and i felt too bad to say no after absolutely hating it. But hey maybe I’ll try it again! Beans however? well i could live off of beans on toast, which granted aren’t the beans you are probably on about but omg maybe its that British in me but beans on toast is an absolute banger of a meal (and was the first thing to come to mind after Bean Crock, which we eat in the winter, another classic).
To answer your very valid question about the number of exams i had, it was 21. 21 exams :) In all fairness exams sorted out my sleep schedule like a charm. i decided to get up at 6am everyday i had an exam so i could have breakfast and revise the content. which then meant i went to bed earlier (around 23:00) and slept like a log the whole night! the longest exam was 2 hours and 30 minutes. and let me tell you, i made a big fat mistake; i decided to take my friends advice and go through the paper backwards. what an oopsie that was. I ended up forgetting that the outside world even existed during that exam, it felt like lifetime! but honestly, oh well too late to change it now.
We had a BAV (Beliefs and values) exam (3 actually, catholic christianity, judaism and then philosphy and ethic) becuase it’s required to learn. we needed to use a source of wisdom and authority in most answers and the one i mustve used a hundred times was ‘Love thy neighbour’. I’m also pretty sure I made a few up but hey ho it’s done now.
It’s officially the summer holidays and school doesn’t start again until September so I’ve got so much time on my hands I have no clue what I’m gonna do! when I go back though I’m doing my Level 3 certifications (A-levels) in history, English lit and philosophy and ethics!
on the note of wildlife, there are so many birds in my garden it’s insane. I’m starting to think they’re building an army to come hunt me down and peck out my brains. although i doubt they eat brains, maybe I’ll have to stuff my pockets with seeds as a sacrifice. Also i had to search up what a bull moose was but oh good heavens THEY ARE HUGE!? I swear i’d literally cosplay Jesus and ascend to heaven if i saw one of them. I love the fact that you get to see wildlife, it’s so cool! I once got chased by a flock of geese and that was scary enough. I think geese talk to each other because they always seem to stare me down. Now listen, I may have a seriously moody resting face but come on! I just want to go about my day and here I am getting glared at by the most viscous bird ever. unfair if you ask me.
Oh oh oh! about the tumble drier situation, I have been known to lack common sense at times. For example, when i start a task and don’t plan ahead. Imagine I’m baking something and as I wash up i haven't got out a tea- towel to dry my stuff. i will freeze like a moose in headlights (see what i did there? eheh funny). It’s like i have no issue remembering what the emergency quota act did during the red scare in USA history yet if something is missing or new my brain just grows legs and goes on holiday.
In the words of my grandmother, if brains were made of dynamite i wouldn’t have enough to blow my cap off.
Random thought I had the other day to finish off: the saying ‘Hold you horses’ comes from literally slowing down a horse. like ‘stop, slow down’ ‘Hold your horses!’. it has taken me an unbelievably long time to realise that. like what else was ti meant to mean?! I’m literally as thick as a plank of wood sometimes.
Anyway, I hope you are well! I hope everything is good and that you’re good!
Love ya! Little sib!

Uhhh here’s my sort of review for the new ROTTMNT movie!! Also has some explanations near the bottom of the post some inconsistencies for those who were picky about them/don’t know why they’re there.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I cannot stress enough how much I LOVE the story and visuals in this movie. The series had gorgeous, flashy animation, with solid stories throughout the episodes. Important pieces of the puzzle were scattered throughout, and this movie is the sweet, sweet payoff. The movie only added to its fluidity and charm.
Tumblr media
I grew up with the 2012 TMNT series, and while skeptical at first of the new one, I have grown to love it. This movie is a testament to the new-age TMNT franchise, and brings back a classic villain that the creators were unable to bring into the series earlier (more on that later): The Krang. They’re, in few words, badass, formidable villains with a penchant for blood and universe-wide domination.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the main series, we actually only SEE the Krang once (and it looks to be a dead one, or at the very least it’s skeleton), during some part of the Season 2 Finale, and they aren’t explicitly mentioned.
Tumblr media
The reason why some things are out of place in the movie, i.e. parts weren’t mentioned in the series much (or at all, in some unfortunate instances) was because, with only a 6 week warning, the crew was told to end the series! The creators were told it was “on pause”, but with the way Nickelodeon treated its showtimes and advertisements, you would really think that they were aiming for the show’s downfall.
Tumblr media
Leo being the leader is more implied at first than outright shown, and we see a small fight between Raph and Leo over how Leo is their leader, or at least how he does things during missions. Later on in the movie, when Leo is trying to escape from half-Krang half-Raph, he says that he understands all the yelling Raph did: he was scared, and not angry.
Tumblr media
In the movie, Raph doesn’t really yell all that much. It’s mostly very brief when Raph is chastising Leo for the mission gone wrong at the beginning of the movie, and during the mission itself when Leo wasn’t listening. It’s implied that this happed more often during the cancelled Season 2, or maybe even in a Season 3 that we never got, because those two instances don’t warrant Leo to be saying that Raph yells “all the time.” If Season 2 wasn’t cut short, maybe we would’ve seen more scraps between brothers, some more clashing of red and blue (out of love and fear, though, rather than the anger seen in most other TMNT series IMO).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe half of the movie (maybe a little less) was animated and voice acted before the announcement of Season 2’s cancellation, so these small inconsistencies make sense. Still, if you’re someone wanting to get into the new TMNT franchise, I highly recommend the series and this BANGER movie!! Seriously, if watching the movie can’t convince you, I don’t know what will.

To me, it’s more like a spirit thing, it’s not like a brain thing, it’s not like a thought process. There’s nothing I needed to study to be able to get others to tap in with me. I was just tapping in with myself, and if others follow me? Great. If they don’t? Great. I’d say for me it’s mostly internal, when I hear the voice in my head it’s leading me and I feel like a vessel, to leave a mark in the world. It’s like I’m chosen for it so whether or not I try to run away from it, it’s just what it is. Rema tells Apple Music how He Aims to Create a Legacy I’m supportive to creatives. You see all these great things that have to do with my storytelling, my journey, my branding, my visuals, my photos. I’m not the one taking the photos, I’m not the one shooting the videos, I’m not the one doing all if that they’re just young youths waiting for someone to invest in them, to bring out them crazy ideas, right? That’s what I live for, I live for investing in the youth. It’s beyond musicians, it’s beyond my peers and colleagues. Everyone wants to create, I feel like a lot of creatives have a place in my journey, so I do as best as possible to reinvest in my career, in myself. I’m not just here because I want to drop a banger, make some money and live a flashy life. In 50 years to come, people are going to trace a lot of things back to me - songs back to me, fashion style back to me, visuals back to me, a whole bunch. I want to be able to touch all areas of life, but music is like the first rocket. When it detaches, it goes to wherever it needs to go. Rema tells Apple Music How He Explores Amapiano Authentically I feel like tapping into a sound, most especially when it’s within Africa, I take my time to study. I don’t jump on the wave, I take my time to understand things. When me and Musa Keys were in the studio, I was like ‘I know a lot of Nigerians are doing amapiano but I need you to educate me about amapiano’. I don’t want to just hop on it. Yes I can make a banger, but it’s like can you teach me? When I hear the ones from South Africa it holds more spirit  than the ones from anywhere else. Although I don’t understand everything they’re saying, I can feel the particles, the elements or the spiritual essence of the music. I know there’s a lot of amapiano from different parts of Africa, but educate me about yours, right? I feel like that’s necessary. I’m so down to collaborate, and while I collaborate I want to learn, I don’t want to do it the wrong way. Yes, amapiano is a sound I really want to tap into, but give me time with that!  Read the full article

Hey so I want to get started on Critical Role but I'm not really sure where the best jumping on point is. Where did you start?
Tumblr media
That's a good question! It GREATLY depends on what sort of watcher/listener you are.
Currently, the entire Critical Role content machine has 3 main campaigns.
The first one was started before they were a full on company, and is therefore rough around the edges. The second campaign was much more well rounded, and is well beloved - and it is finished! The third is just getting started, and there aren't a lot of episodes for it yet.
I'll try to outline some of the things for you.
Campaign 1 - Vox Machina (115 episodes)
(YouTube link to the full playlist)
Tumblr media
Reasons to start at campaign 1:
If you are a thorough lore-consuming vacuum that NEEDS to know things and doesn't mind throwing yourself headfirst into OVER 800 HOURS OF CONTENT you can start with Campaign 1.
It begins in the middle of the journey (because the campaign started BEFORE they began to stream it) and is therefore fast to get into the action. The characters are already established and get along, and there are tons of interesting dynamics.
Reasons to NOT start at campaign 1:
- It's fucking long
- It's rough around the edges - the audio quality sucks for a couple of episodes, the video quality ain't great right away, and their setup isn't the most conducive to the game.
- The actors themselves are also rough - they're not used to the streaming setup and do their best to maintain the feel of the home game, which means lots of inside jokes that may read as too crude or too-sexual for the audience. The characters are also basic archetypes, and although there IS depth to them, until you get to later episodes you may need to wait.
Compromise:
If you want to start Campaign 1 but are afraid of the rough edges, start at episode 24 (YouTube link) - it is the beginning of the Briarwood arc, a really good and engaging part of the early campaign that is much easier to roll with that early episodes.
...Or wait until Legends of Vox Machina (link) comes out and watch it as an animated series!
Campaign 2 - Mighty Nein (141 episodes)

Reasons to start at campaign 2:
The players are much more comfortable this time around! Their setup is great, and this is the story they’re probably the most well known for at this point.
The nuance of the characters comes through almost immediately, and the storyline is more intricate and wrought with morally grey choices! It’s a fucking banger.
Reasons to NOT start at campaign 2:
- It's fucking long
- The characters don’t all get along right away! They’re a ragtag team that comes together out of necessity, and it takes a while for them to gel, which means lots of drama within the party. It’s all in good fun, of course, and it’s an excellent show of sportsmanship amongst a group of friends who trust each other to act out entire arguments... but it can get a bit intense! If you’re really sensitive to this, it might bother you.
- If you want to stay in-the-know on current stuff without getting spoiled... it might be rough going (spoilers are unavoidable for this one, people cannot contain themselves in any form.)
Compromise:
Not sure what the compromise would be. I cannot really think of any part of this campaign that you want to miss.
Maybe others who are not quite as obsessed as I am with consuming all the content can recommend a good jump-in point. The idea of missing any of their beginnings gives me hives, though. I’ll abstain.
Campaign 3 - The current campaign, now airing

Tumblr media
I will admit, I don’t know about this campaign yet. I haven’t even started it myself! However, if you like to keep up to date and follow weekly installments, this is for you! It’ll continue to release 3 times a month, dice willing, and you can easily follow along with all the fanart and hype!
If you do not have the attention span nor the energy to slog through literally YEARS of story (and really, who would...?).... this may be your best bet!
Things to note:
- All the campaigns are set on the same WORLD but they are stand-alone stories. Although careful viewers will obviously pick up on hints and name-drops from previous campaigns, you don’t need to know anything about Campaign 1 to jump into Campaign 2, and vice versa!
The important thing is to follow your heart and have fun! As long as you’re not watching the episodes completely out of order... you’re probably not doing it wrong.

Oh I’m curious, what don’t you like about the into the woods film? I don’t think I ever actually saw it all the way through, but I’ve seen the stage show a couple of times so now I’m wondering what’s different that makes the movie bad
Ahhhh I have a lot of different complaints about it—Into the Woods is one of my all-time favorite musicals, so I have a lot of strong feelings about it. One of the biggest ones is the lack of The Narrator. The Narrator as a character in the stage show is not just like, very fun and delightful and adding to the fairytale energy, they’re a vital part of the thesis of the whole show. The Narrator is outside the story until act 2, when the characters acknowledge the Narrator and bring them into the plot, sacrificing them to the giant. The story has already taken a dark turn, but once the Narrator is dead, the story is completely off the rails with no one sure of whether there Will be a happy ending anymore. It’s a brilliant storytelling device that SO clearly subverts the tropes and expectations from act one to act two which is like, the COOLEST part of the show and a big part of why I love the show so much.
Now, in fairness, I don’t think this Would translate to the screen very well and it IS very much a Live Theater Meta Thing, so I understand why it was cut. But like. Maybe they should have considered that if a major aspect of the show just Doesn’t make sense in a movie…….maybe they’re missing a big part of What the show is doing in the first place, if they’re trying to make it into a movie anyway. Like the show as a whole IS very reliant on being a piece of THEATER, it makes sense in THAT medium it was written FOR that medium for a reason!
Another example of this is that the movie cuts the act one finale “Ever After” from the soundtrack. Now this theoretically makes sense because it’s a movie so there’s not an act break, but like. That act divide is again PIVOTAL to the actual storytelling. The end of act one is Happily Ever After hooray everyone has everything they wished for and the bad guys have been punished! This is usually what you would expect of the end of the entire show, so it coming at the halfway point is very much a red flag for audiences that things are Not actually as rosy as they appear and there’s still a lot of shit to come. It’s once again using the expectations of a conventional class musical and completely upending them with the second act. The movie doesn’t have this song or this clear act break, splitting the story into two halves (the “happily ever” and the “after”), so it loses some of this.
Those are kind of my Biggest qualms, I think those are just really fundamental inherent issues with the movie as a concept and that Most film adaptations of into the woods would struggle with that. As far as the film’s execution itself, I just think it’s like a really visually ugly movie? It’s SO overbearingly reliant on cgi/digital effects in a way that makes it look so just like. Nothing. It’s all bland and muddy and dark and weird I genuinely hate looking at it fjgnrjfndjd idek how to put it into words I just think it’s a hideous looking movie. I also think the casting is all over the place, I don’t think any of it is like insanely egregious but I think very little of it is Strong casting. Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince is brilliant and inspired though.
I also have a very petty complaint, which is that they apparently couldn’t be fucked to learn the three part round in the finale, which is one of my FAVORITE pieces of musical theater ever written. I did this show in HIGH SCHOOL and if WE could learn it, these people being paid to make this could learn it. Anyone reading this who’s only heard the movie version, or never heard it at all, do yourself a favor and listen to the absolute banger that is the Into the Woods finale. Holy fuck I just listened to the movie version to confirm that I’m right about them not doing the round and GOD THIS SOUNDS SO SO SO SHIT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LISTEN TO THE OBC FINALE. Okay. Okay. Anyway.

In light of @thebritcrit’s post about spreading positivity about the series (I don’t think I saw the specific post they’re referencing), I wanted to talk about some of the things I absolutely love about the series, even now.
The Design and Animation
I remember when we got our first promo images. Above and beyond being curious/irritated about her hair being blonde, I wasn’t too sure about the style. It was cute and all, but I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It took awhile for me to realize that it was meant to look like Rapunzel’s art style, which in and of itself was a callback to early production on Tangled. Originally, they wanted the whole movie to look like a moving painting. Well, here came the series, looking like moving art. When you zoom in close on anything, you can even see the unsteady lines on the edges, making it look painted.
And then the animation? Hoo-boy, did that animation just keep getting better and better! I loved it from the start, but I can actively recall a few times when it seriously and obviously improved. It’s so smooth and expressive, and there are some extremely difficult shots that were animated for a freaking cartoon! And when there are recurring characters who look better every time we see them? (*coughLADYCAINEcough*) That’s just incredible.
This goes for the direction and boarding as well, because the animation wouldn’t be half of what it is without the board artists who showed them the way.
The Story
Yes, I am very guilty of frequently complaining about choices that were made in the story, but there’s something I definitely appreciate about it: they had a story to tell, and they told that story.
We’ve known from the start that it was only going to be three seasons, and I’ve been saying all along that I prefer series with finite stories than ones that drag on and on and on, always upping the stakes with no end in sight. Tangled definitely didn’t do that.
And while I sometimes say it was too ambitious, at least it had ambition at all. Considering it’s a series based on a theatrical movie, they definitely made it grander than I was expecting it to be.
The Acting
I’ve heard it said from Chris Sonnenburg that, if they couldn’t get Mandy and Zac on board with the project, they weren’t interested in doing it. That being said, both of them brought their A game to the recording booth. So did the rest of the cast. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of actors to bring these characters to life.
There are scenes where it’s all about the delivery of the line that sells it, or when the acting is just so incredibly superb. We love these characters because they’re so believable.
The Music and Songs
We also couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to be singing these songs! And no, they aren’t all complete bangers, but there are very few songs from this series that I can’t stand listening to. Alan and Glenn did such an amazing job adding songs to this series.
And while we’re at it, Kevin Kliesch does not get enough love and attention for his score. We got a few pieces with the S2 soundtrack, but I maintain that a score soundtrack is right at the top of my merch wish list.
