I have a writing issue I am trying to get out of, but I also don't know how to get out of it. I have a tendency to have characters look at one another, gaze, glance, peer, stare, get lost in, etc - so much action with the eyes. I want to be able to describe communication and feelings between characters outside of *the eyes* (that isn't touching), do you have any tips/exercises that can help with this?
So I waited a super long time to reply to this, and you may already have figured out a solution on your own or found an answer elsewhere. I apologize for saying I would answer and then lo and behold I did not. I did however find a piece on the site Happy Writer that addresses this exact issue! Read their advice, it's meticulous and practical.
How to Make Your Characters Stop Looking At Everything
Personally, when I've encountered this crutch in my own writing, I switch my focus to some other sense. Whether its actions the character is doing with their hands, sounds they are distracted by, a interesting patterns in the wallpaper, whatever. As long as it isn't eyes every time it makes those moments fresh again.
I've noticed in most day-to-day conversations I don't make much eye contact with familiar people. We can speak without looking at each other, especially when occupied by other activities such as chores or driving. With strangers of course there is more nodding and polite eye contact, but with friends and coworkers they understand if I'm not looking at them I can still pay attention to their speech.
Likewise, if you save the heavy eye contact for specific scenes—like romantic, hostile, or suspenseful encounters—it will be more impactful! It will be exciting to write "they stared into each other's eyes" again! I'm teasing, but also I've been there and I understand all too well.

We all know how touch starved Knives is but what if his s/o was also touch starved to the point of clinging on to him like a kola or a backpack. Just thought it may be funny that he's just acts like it's just the norm walking around with his s/o hanging off him.
Touch-starved Knives? I'm already there. I'm in the theater, Anon. I've got my popcorn and my large drink and I'm ready.
This idea was so cute to me I decided to write you some little imagines and a bite-sized ficlet, too! Hope you enjoy!
Millions Knives x Reader: Touchy
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: None again, just tooth-rotting fluff. Doesn't have any specific Knives incarnation in mind, since they're all ever-so untouched and in need of touching.
Tumblr media
First off, don't expect him to outright admit anything, ever. Knives is very much a "if I don't think about it, it'll go away" kind of guy. So there's no way he'll ever come up to you and be like hey, guess who didn't get enough skin-to-skin contact as a growing youth, this guyyyy. But do expect him to start getting clingy once he realizes he can.
It's like getting your first taste of your new favorite food. Now that you've had it, you can't get enough. Suddenly he's pressing his hand up to yours while standing next to you (not handholding, he tried this once and got overwhelmed and had to go bite something for a while). Or he's hovering behind you, resting his head on yours. Or he's laying next to you, tracing patterns across your arm/shoulder/back/whatever's available and allowed to be touched.
It's one thing if you're fine with touch. But if you're touch-starved like him, on the other hand? You're trying to sap that same affection from him. Since he's quick to overwhelm (as previously stated) it can be hard at times, but he slowly, surely, gets used to the sensations of pressure and touch that aren't violent or painful, just kind and pleasurable.
So, the touch becomes more constant, more level, more in-tune with each other. It starts feeling very natural. And that natural-ness feels great.
Hugs. So many hugs. That feeling of pressure between the two of you is relaxing and reassuring. (Also you totally get pressed into those "airbags" of his if you know what I mean.) He's so precise with his movements that he can hold you at the exact tightness that makes you feel the best. Who needs a weighted blanket when you have the Compression Boyfriend?
Koala backpacking? Absolutely. 100%. Crawl all over this man. Crawl up him like a vine. He's so used to it by now, he just lets it happen, even in the middle of work. Sometimes he'll pretend you're not there, just for the giggles. Completely straight-faced, but makes you laugh like mad.
If this is Stampede Knives we're specifically talking about (though I personally think the other Knives do this too) then you get to sit next to him, or even on his lap, while he's at the piano. No naughty business--just being close to each other while he plays the keys. Or maybe he'll ghost his hands over yours and show you how to play/follow your playing, if you already know how.
Alright, a little ficlet below the cut just for you.
"...My liege."
"What?"
Legato frowned at the sight before him. There was important business to be done, and here Master Knives was, fooling around. Letting you, the human he'd bonded with, crawl all over him like an insect.
"If nothing's amiss, Legato, then let's get to work." Knives huffed and picked up the paperwork from the table.
You shifted around slightly on his back, head resting on his shoulder, watching as he shuffled through the papers. This was one of your little games with him--you'd hang out on his back, literally, and he'd pretend you weren't there. He didn't care about the game, really, but it made you laugh. And if it made you laugh (one of his favorite sounds, if he had any), it was worth it.
"...Master Knives."
"Spit it out."
"Get that human off your back."
Knives growled. "That human has a name, you know. Besides, there's no human on my back."
You stifled a laugh as you looked at Legato, mouth twisting downwards in a frown.
"Yes, there is." Legato pointed. "They're right there!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Knives shook his head, then turned around to procure some more files from a shelf. As he turned, you looked back to Legato and stuck your tongue out at him.
"You arrogant little--"
"Legato," Knives grunted. "If you mean to insult me, I'll gladly slice you open."
Legato fumed, then finally spoke again. "Not at all, my liege."
"Good." Knives leaned over to rub his head against yours for just a moment, then returned towards Legato. "Then, let's get to work."
Tumblr media
End Notes: I have a soft spot for Knives. And a soft spot for Knives learning to love, well, love. This is also dedicated to my friend who lets me shout about Knives at them. You're the best, K!

my current theory about q!tubbo is he's some kind of program or code or ai or something. specifically time travel is involved in tubbo's lore, but not in the way we thought it would be. i think there's probably some instance/the original instance of tubbo that existed in the past, before the island became what it is now, and that tubbo was able to send creation the data needed to revive q!tubbo. also, specifically, revived!tubbo is a different instance of tubbo than the one that died, but running more or less the same code, just without something specific to our tubbo, because revived!tubbo isnt that tubbo and didn't experience it, he just remembers it like he did, and there's something that revived!tubbo is lacking because the way those experiences affected him wasn't also transferred.
like, two things here, which are basically the same thing. but its like.... an application called tubbo.exe, which is based around a file like tubbos_basic_personality. and there's a file for memory, which contains more or less his memories or consciousness or whatever. and theoretically, that's tubbo. but our tubbo kept running that, and as he experienced things and obtained those memories, maybe he ran into a situation that taught him to be more patient or that maybe he should reign in his, uh, homicidal urges and work on not being so homicidal or whatever. so he works on being patient or not homicidal, or he meets someone and forms an attachment and through that learns to be more compassionate. and these things are like, like an add-on or a mod or something, a separate file that changes the way the tubbo.exe program runs without altering the basic_personality file itself or something, i don't actually understand how computers work.
like if you have an experience that tells you maybe you need to working on being more kind to others or whatever, the memory of this event is a separate thing to the work of actively trying to be more kind or even memory of trying to be more kind: if you become more kind, it's not because you decided to, it's because you put in the effort to rewire your brain so it follows new thought patterns, or because your brain learned that it needs to behave in a certain way from now own, which is a separate physical change to the memory which is also stored physically in your brain. scooping out the memory probably isn't going to change the new way your brain works because those are two different things.
so. basically. the theory is. revived qtubbo is a separate version of the old qtubbo, with his basic personality and memories, but without everything else that made qtubbo into himself and the ways those memories shaped him. not an exact copy of the person tubbo's friends and loved ones lost.

actual canon and factual things found in the show itself that reveals the red flags and problems of mileven and shows how they’ve been treating byler’s relationship way more seriously and as a healthier relationship that directly contrasts mileven:
mike’s place in his relationship with el is the source of his insecurities. he constantly tries to be another person in order to impress el and feel worthy of her, as he feels inferior in their relationship (he even admits it himself, calls himself a “random nerd” that can’t begin to hold up to her level). it would be all fine and dandy if it was actually el herself that reassured him that it doesn't matter and that she’d love him either way, but it was will comforting him instead, the selfless pining love interest that prioritizes his happiness over everything else.
will, the second love interest, was the only person who gave mike needed reassurance and comfort throughout the entire season and he’s seemingly the only person mike is able to open up to and be vulnerable with. he continuously fails to actually communicate and express himself to his own girlfriend, but spends the entire season doing the exact opposite with will.
mike and el don't seem to be able to connect and level with each other the way will and mike can. in the mileven season 4 argument, el goes out of her way to tell mike that he will never understand her struggles, even though he has also been bullied his entire life. she feels different from him. however, mike and will don't even need words in order to understand each other (“i didn’t say it” “you didn’t have to”). they see each other as equals in every sort of way (“i think it’ll be easier if we’re a team”).
lumax and mileven this season were both written to have major relationship problems, but the difference is that lucas and max solved their issues with proper communication and didn't need to have other people involved in the mending of their relationship. however, when they seemingly “fixed” mileven’s relationship, they made the conscious writing decision to make will be the one to push mike to talk to el in the hopes that his words would help her survive. it wasn’t something mike himself planned, he was just prompted to do something. will was also the one who talked mike through his insecurities in the van when he was on the verge of giving up on his relationship, convincing him that el still needed him. it wasn’t the words of his own girlfriend that made mike feel cherished, loved and needed, but will’s. they effectively tied the second love interest so deeply into the narrative direction of mike and el’s relationship so that he’s the sole reason they’re still holding up right now. mike would’ve never done anything if it hadn’t been for will reassuring him that his relationship with el still had a chance, since he wholeheartedly believed that el didn’t need him anymore. but will lied and masked his own feelings in order to achieve this. how does will know for sure that what he was saying about el was what she truly felt? how do we know for sure that mike wouldn’t start questioning his relationship with her once the truth is revealed, and that everything he believed to be el’s feelings were actually will’s?
the writing choices made for mileven seems to contradict how they’ve been writing the other good canon couples in the show. jancy, lumax, and jopper have never needed verbal expressions of “i love you” to affirm that the romantic love is very much still felt from them. it is shown, not told. so what does it mean when el seemingly needs a verbal affirmation of love from mike in order to feel secure in their relationship and feel romantically loved by him? why can't they just prove it through their actions and their moments together? and no, you can't just use the “every relationship is different” reasoning, because these are characters from a piece of media and a show/series, not real life people, meaning their has to be a specific pattern followed by the writers in portraying real, authentic relationships. mileven shares little to no similarities with the other relationships they’ve built up over the seasons, but is eerily similar to stancy, a relationship that was portrayed to be shallow and ultimately failed to last. they’re also the only relationship to be portrayed as a “love at first sight” trope, while all the other relationships are built on a developing friendship and are somewhat slowburn (including byler when they eventually become canon).
since season 3, they have been directly contrasting how mike deals with conflict between will and el, and everytime he has a fight with el, he also coincidentially has one with will. they also all happen back-to-back, meaning you’re meant to compare them as opposing parallels.
with el, mike would deflect blame and has to be pushed by other people to apologize and take action. in season 3, he was complaining and wondering what he did wrong and needed lucas to constantly coach him through confronting el, and in season 4 he blamed outside forces like “mouthbreathers” for ruining their relationship when the main problem was with himself. this time, he never apologized to her at all (although you could argue he was about to do it in the surfer boy pizza scene but was ultimately interrupted).
with will, mike immediately takes responsibility for his own actions and doesn’t need to be pushed by other people to apologize to him. in season 3, he bikes through the pouring rain and calls himself the asshole for going too far, and in season 4, he looks affronted at the mere idea of will thinking he deserved the treatment he got from him, and calls himself the self-pitying idiot for the way he acted towards will.
it is undeniable that all the intimate heart-to-hearts between mike and will this season were portrayed to have romantic undertones. oh, but aren’t they just two completely platonic besties that happened to be glued next to each other throughout the majority of the season while most of the other characters played a role in the supernatural plot? where’s the proof that their scenes were meant to be read romantically? well, an obvious romantic trope where they were constantly interrupted from staring intently at each other was used across all their crucial scenes together, which is something they’ve only done with canon couples in the show 🤔
meanwhile, will sabotaged the few moments that mileven had together in season 4, and they never got to be alone except for their fight. and if you really think about it, even in the past seasons, mileven moments are mostly very lighthearted or comedic and almost always in public spaces where they never get to have serious, deeper and meaningful conversations (especially in season 3 when their relationship was played as a joke), while the majority of important byler moments are private and its always them having a genuine heart-to-heart with each other. there’s underlying tension in their scenes that isn’t present in most mileven scenes.
think long and hard enough on why mike was purposefully separated from el for the majority of the season and they had him spend the most time talking about his feelings to will, while showing how somehow, the second love interest knows exactly how to reassure him through his problems the way his own girlfriend has never actually shown to be doing before. while they gave the person in the middle major problems with the person he’s currently in a relationship with, they simultaneously developed his relationship with the second love interest and built up romantic tension between them. it’s literally a writing technique and a way of showing which would actually be the more compatible partner for the one in the middle, no matter how you look at it.
“ok, but didn’t mike already say ily to el? theres no chance byler is gonna happen when theyve already fixed their relationship” maybe i’d buy it if they decided to do this in the last season, where there’d be no more room left to doubt. however, there’s still an entire season left which also happens to be will’s coming of age season, meaning anything could happen and the trajectory could completely change. trope subversions and plot twists exist, and coincidentially, little women was in the inspiration board for season 4 wherein one person in the middle of a love triangle declared a love confession towards the one person people thought he’d end up with, but the story still went a complete 180° and he ended up with her sibling instead (who happens to be a painter like will 🤔), when the story was nearing towards the end. sound familiar? maybe you shouldn’t get too cozy and comfortable when the writers have said they are going to complete will’s arc and tie all loose ends, meaning the relationships will continue to develop while the chararacters interact with each other over the course of an apocalyptic setting. they aren’t just gonna spend the entire season fighting monsters, their personal relationships are obviously gonna continue to move forward in the plot, especially when the major villain of the story also takes advantage of their personal traumas and histories to prey on them. their personal arcs are still tied to the supernatural plot, one way or another.

There's this thing writers do to Heavy's speech that doesn't sit right with me.
So, I subjected mysef to unholy amounts of unfiltered Heavy TF2 fanfiction to pick out some notable tropes and get some ideas for potential content for the future, and there's one particular grammar structure that stands out to me which almost every writer I stumble across seems to use. And I don't blame them, because Valve does it too. Like here:
Tumblr media
And here:
Tumblr media
And in the voicelines, here:
Tumblr media
And here:
Tumblr media
And a few other examples here and there that I don't really want to handpick. This is not a critique of Valve or the writers that follow the pattern introduced by it, it's more of an analysis of why it doesn't happen in real life with actual Russian speakers.
To understand that, you need to understand how subject and predicate work in both English in Russian. So:
A subject is what or whom the sentence is about. It's a person, an object, or an entity performing the action, whatever that action might be. It's usually a noun (a word defining an object) or a pronoun (we're on Tumblr, we all know what a pronoun is).
A predicate is the action performed. It's usually indicated by a verb (runs, walks) or a combination of them (is running, is walking).
A complete English sentence cannot exist without a subject and a predicate. The only exception I can think of where the sentence is both complete and missing a predicate is an imperative - an order, "go there, do something". We won't take those sentences into consideration.
A Russian sentence can exist without a subject, a predicate, or both. This is important because when we make grammar mistakes, it's because we're trying to project the structure of our language onto a different language that doesn't function this way. So yes, we do miss our subjects and predicates in English sentences. We say things like "this person a good friend" instead of "this person IS a good friend", and "need to do something" instead of "WE need to do something". But.
But. We have to consider what kind of sentences are presented in the example above. If you fill in the missing subjects, you get the exact same thing - "it". He says "It is all you need to know". He says "It is good to have you back". You get the picture.
The problem with this is that "it" is not a well-defined subject. It's not a specific thing, not a person, not an entity. "It" is a substitute for a vague concept of things existing. In English, we say "it is dark", but there's actually nobody out there, nobody is being dark. It's an indication, a fill-in, an auxiliary noun that you need to keep the English sentence structure intact. Because you can't have a sentence without a subject and a predicate, remember?
Well, in Russian you can, and you do, and there's a specific name for it. Sentences in which no specific entity is performing the action are called impersonal - there is no person in them! And there's no action either! "It is dark" - well, nobody's doing the "being dark", so there's no need for the "being" part either. In Russian, it's just "Dark."
"All you need to know."
"Good to have you back, Doctor."
"Good time to run, cowards!"
So, that's it then. Whenever you want to put "it is" or "it was" in English, don't just leave the subject out. Either keep both or drop both, otherwise it doesn't sound natural. Let me know if this isn't a clear enough explanation, and have fun writing!

Lumiose City Ghost Girl
Welcome to the first Mandibuzz Unsolved mystery where I, Bianca, and my partner Blue will tackle one of the most popular urban legends of the Kalos region, the Lumiose City Ghost Girl.
For those who don't know, the Lumiose City ghost is said to haunt the second floor of an ordinary office building on the North Boulevard strip.
Many accounts of the ghost follow a similar pattern. Flickering lights, coldness, and an apparition of a ghostly girl telling visitors that, "No, you're not the one," before disappearing. The girl is described as having long, shaggy black hair, pale skin, and long black dress.
I think we saw 5 hex girls matching that exact description in the past month. Man... oh god Bianca, the ghosts are multiplying!
Oh hush! Anyways...
One visitor claims, "It was like the world went dead silent. I couldn't hear the sounds from the street or the thrum of electricity, only my own heartbeat in my ears as a chill shot up my spine. All I knew is that I wasn't alone."
Despite this, most people report that they didn't feel a particular malevolence coming from the spirit. While most talk about the terror they felt, some accounts claim they felt a sudden sense of calmness wash over them, like they knew there was nothing to fear.
The questions no one seems to be able to answer is, "Who is she? And who is she looking for?"
More under the cut.
While Lumiose City is rich with history, this little to say about the office building. The building was constructed in the early 1920s and rented out. Over the course of many decades, it's housed a multitude of companies, and none of them have ever had a reported death inside the building.
Talks about the office being haunted started around the 1950s, most accounts following similar threads as above.
People who work in the building talk about how they 2nd floor is mostly used as a storage space, cubicles sitting empty unless the use is absolutely necessary. They report hearing footsteps above them and lights flickering.
I mean, I think we need to acknowledge that it's an old building. Maybe they need to take a look at their electrical work.
I mean, that's a possibility, but before we get into the theories, what do you think, Blue?
Well... you already know that I don't believe in ghosts. It's just a rumor that's spun out of control.
You don't think the legend stemmed from something?
I think people love a good spooky story.
Unbelievable.
Well, theory #1:
Murdered Lover
One of the more popular urban legends about this ghost is that she was a teen girl meeting up with a crush after school. Her parents didn't allow dating, so they'd sneak up to the unused 2nd floor of the office to spend time together. Only, it turned out that she wasn't alone and someone else was using it as their hiding spot. The poor young girl was murdered and now haunts the space, still waiting for her lover to show up.
Is there any evidence backing this up? I thought you said that there were no reported deaths in the building.
I'll be honest: not really. Though if someone WAS murdered, don't you think the building owner would cover it up?
Fair enough. Does she even have a name?
Maria is a popular one, but so are Camille and Anna.
What about the killer?
Well, there actually WERE a handful of serial killers in the Kalos region at this time. Lumious City specifically having Honedge Slasher. There is in fact a victim named Camille! But she was murdered in the South Boulevard.
So... just a spooky tale?
Potentially.
Theory #2
Vengeful spirit
Now the ghost is an adult woman going by the name of Charlotte Dubois who worked on the first floor. The rumor goes is that she was blatantly favored by management and was the office tattle tale. Out of anger, or perhaps because she was going to report something big, one of her coworkers murdered her after she stepped off the elevator. She now haunts the space trying to find her killer.
Any evidence for this one?
Actually, there is in fact evidence of a Charlotte Dubois working in this building! But not evidence of one ever actually living in the city.
What???
Yeah! Employment records say she exists, but there's no evidence of anyone with that name actually living within the city. No death record either, aside from a woman sharing the name who died in 2013.
Spooky.
Theory #3
A curse
There's a rumor that the ghost isn't actually real at all and is just a curse placed upon a building by an angry customer. There was a short lived insurance company that scammed thousands from its customers on 1952. It is said one elderly woman got nothing after the death of her husband and was so engaged she cursed the building to scare away any new costumers.
Well that seems kinda silly.
How so?
Well, nearly every story says she only appears on the second floor, and that the ghost isn't particularly malevolent. Why curse ONLY the second floor?
Well, two floors were actually owned separately during that year. And she wanted to scare away business, not hurt people.
Hm. Fair enough.
And final theory #4
Pokémon having a goof
And that's pretty much it. Just some Pokémon having a blast trolling people.
Now THIS is the kinda theories I like!!! We love little guys having a goof.
Although there's no proof any Pokémon calls that office space home, I must add. People have gone in there in search of a Pokémon and have come up empty handed
As opposed to people finding concrete proof that this ghost is real.
Shush!!!
There's honestly an ENDLESS amount of theories as to why this ghost haunts the building, many of which I could spend hours going on about, but these are the biggest, and in my opinion, the most likely.
I would ask you what you think but I already know...
Well, if it's not people faking for attention, then WOO Pokémon having a goof, baby!!!
What about you?
I'm honestly partial to the Charlotte Dubois theory. I think it's odd that she only exists on employment records... seems like maybe there was something people tried to cover up.
But in the end this case will likely remain unsolved.

The Happy Mask Salesman's design makes me wonderfully crazy, and I have to talk about the way my brain processes it because it's a big part of why I love him so much.
[Analysis is under the cut]
——————————————————————–——
The first detail I'd like to point out would be the color theory.
Tumblr media
He has the bluer purple on both his tunic and trousers, or the whole piece if you consider it a jumpsuit (I personally don't draw it as a jumpsuit, but I do admit that it might be the most game-accurate interpretation), and it gives him a very direct foundation and center for the outfit's base.
The vest and shoes are a darker magenta, however, which adds hue variation while staying analogous with his tradmeark purple shades, and the light grey is a value used to balance the more saturated purples as an accent.
The golden accessories are a complimentary (opposite) color to purple, which Nintendo seems to be very adept at in general (cough, Splatoon, cough).
Tumblr media
Of course, we can't forget his hair. Whichever specific shade you see it, it's always agreed that the color is at least somewhere along the ginger spectrum. The red, orange, auburn, etc. hues are analogous between the contrasting gold and purple, adding a transitional color to link them.
His skin serves the same purpose with the varied addition of having a lowered saturation and a lighter tone to aid the grey in balancing the depth of the color of his clothes and hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though we unfortunately have no canon answer to what his eye color is, Ember Lab's creative decision to make them green may have been the best choice from a design standpoint because it balances out the purple in his clothing and makes his face stand out more.
The distribution of color in this design as a whole is pretty genius to me, as well.
Tumblr media
His hair, being the only part of him that's that ginger color, directs the eyes upward to his face, while the main, deep purple is focused on the direct center.
The gold is arranged widthwise across the center, most heavily on the neck once again to direct the eyes upward while also distributing down to both of his wrists for balance on either side, almost like a scale.
The magenta and grey both run lengthwise down (and wrap around) the center and sit in mostly horizontal detailing at the bottom of his legs like the base of a pillar.
It's not something I added to the example image or spoke about before, but his white teeth in his smile are another aspect that is, of course, very eye-catching for his face and important for his design.
There's also the topic of the geometry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm using my own art as an example because this is the way I interpret it, but the first image is just a breakup of how the edges of each section line up with one another in a way that fans out from the center, and the second image is the addition of marks measuring the estimated centers of each section.
Looking closely, you quickly realize how his gorget makes everything line up geometrically, and as a whole, the design is entirely symmetrical apart from the way his hair is parted, which adds all the asymmetry needed to make him feel natural, albeit incredibly well-groomed and organized.
The color of the inner edge of his vest and the the soles of his shoes is the same as the two rows of stitches running down the front of his torso, which gives the otherwise separately-coloured pieces of the outfit a common detail to link them as a set.
(At one point, I think I had an exact estimation for the number of stitches in each row, but I think I started ignoring it in my art to save my sanity. I know it's on my cosplay, though.)
Tumblr media
His gorget and bracers also have a matching scallop pattern (though it seems to be debated on whether the scallops of the bracers face up or down), which adds an additional sense of uniformity.
The majority of details follow the lengthwise median, and everything suggests an overall polished feel and a balanced center of gravity. All in all, it's a fantastic design. I've seen so many wonderful takes and artistic adjustments on it, and I've even made my own, but the character designers at Nintendo really popped off with this one.

also, do you think at some point you could make a CMY2K oc checklist, as in some do's and do not's when making an oc for it? I'd just think that'd be cool!! ^^*
i've been meaning to do something like this for a long time and y'know what i need a fun new way to procrastinate on these storyboards tonight
THE OFFICIAL CMY2K OC CHECKLIST
first off to get it out of the way: human OCs can be basically any kinda normal human person you could meet in jersey city acid city NJ circa 1999-2000, and for cyborgs it's pretty much the exact same, just humans with cybernetics; the only thing to note in that regard is that bio-cybernetics are still fairly New in the CMY2K universe and they function on windows 98-era technology, so they're big and bulky and clunky and not very graceful. cybernetics are also Not simply cosmetic, they're usually meant to be disability aids, but some super-rich get experimental cybernetics because it's fashionable
NOW onto the fun thing that i'm certain you were actually interested in: HALOSOFT LIVING COMPUTER ANDROIDS!!!!
A) PRIMARY FUNCTION
i'm starting with this because it's the most important defining part of a livicom's character, i think, since it determines what kinda features they'd be built with
basically, livicoms can be built for LITERALLY ANY JOB A HUMAN CAN DO; it's easier to list the things livicoms CAN'T be built primarily to do, which are:
1: making original art. sure, plenty of livicoms are built to perform music or copy prints, but the thought of a robot having original creative ideas is just silly and would be a waste of halosoft's resources, so they aren't produced. similarly, there aren't any android authors or journalists, but plenty of magazines and newspapers do have android employees for things like spellcheck/editing or photography, photography/"camera guy" is probably the most creative type job an android can get, but they're less like a photographer or cinematographer and more just a camera with legs
2: driving. their AI would just be far too dangerously easy to trick with fake road signs or painted lines, not to mention the whole trolley problem thing would risk a HUGE violation of the first law and put halosoft in SERIOUS ethical and legal trouble, so they're playing it safe and just avoiding the risk altogether. that said, there are still bots that do delivery-type jobs, just on foot, so it's just the jobs that Absolutely require driving a car that livicoms are Legally Forbidden From
3: any kind of executive leadership type position in any field. humans don't want to be bossed around by robots and a robot that bosses humans around won't sell [unless it's a more specific niche kinda bossing around, those ones sell like hotcakes] not to mention humans don't trust computers to make all the big decisions for them. the highest up the executive ladder a livicom ever gets is personal assistant to the big man
besides those exceptions, livicoms can do literally anything you can think of! cooking, cleaning, general housekeeping, sanitation, delivery, entertainment, sexwork, acting, retail, construction, security, pest control, maintenance, newscaster, fuckin IDK paparazzi you name it a livicom can do it
B) SERIAL NUMBER/NAME
all livicoms are auto-assigned a serial number following a very simple pattern: the first four letters indicate their primary function, and the following three numbers indicate the order in which they came off the factory line. for example, SING-072 is a singing entertainer bot, VOLT-808 is a voltage control electrician bot, HELP-444 is a search and rescue bot, so on and so forth.
How Ev Er, one of humanity's most charming traits is its propensity for bonding with literally anything, and this includes robots. more people like robots than don't--granted, androids specifically are seen as a little less charming than less humanoid robots, people often think they're creepy or uncomfortable to be around or just fall too close to the uncanny valley, but in general, most humans like robots enough to at the very least nickname them, so they don't have to keep referring to them with a clunky serial number. some robots prefer their serial number or just don't like the name they were given by humans, but like that's the same with humans y'know
like the jobs, robot names can be basically anything, but it's very common for them to just be nicknamed based on their serial number. for example, BDSI-371, a bedside nurse, is named betsy, because BDSI kinda looks like it'd be pronounced similar to "betsy" when read phonetically.
there's also EXEC-013, an executive secretary bot, nicknamed teeny after the number thirteen in her serial, and her successor, EXEC-014, nicknamed forzie for the same reason.
RUSH-066, a traffic guard bot, nicknamed russe. VOLT-808, a voltage control electrician bot, nicknamed voltaire. all of these are canon examples, i could keep going, but you get the gist
C) LED COLOR
i used to be stricter about this, but for the sake of having more interesting character designs, i've started to loosen up
basically, every livicom has LEDs on their ears and shoes, and their eyes are the same color. this color, generally, is related to their primary function, and there are four Main colors that most primary functions can be sorted into:
PINK: any domestic job or one that focuses primarily on working closely with people as clients. this is usually things like housekeeping or teaching etc, and most personal bots that live with you in your home are probably gonna be pink unless they're a medical bot
BLUE: medical bots OR any kind of repair or maintenance. nurses are the same color as mechanics and electricians. if it fixes something or someone, it's probably blue. also, to avoid any "is there a doctor in here" "i'm a psychiatrist" type confusion, ALL blue bots regardless of job are pre-programmed to be skilled in first aid
GREEN: anything that works primarily with or for money, like retail or customer service or finance or business.
ORANGE: anything that needs to be seen from a distance. this includes entertainment and safety/security and anything else that'd be wearing a hi-vis vest like construction
of course, these aren't the Only colors an android's LEDs can be, but the vast vast VAST majority of livicoms Are these colors. exceptions are few and far between, but even then, the color still has something to do with their job.
for example, carmine was originally built for phlebotomy, IE taking blood samples, so xyr LEDs are red like blood.
mantid is pest control at a botanical garden, so his LEDs are pink while the rest of him is green so he matches the plants.
whiskey is a bartender, so instead of being green like other food service androids, he's orange to match both the color of liquor and the dim lighting in the bar he works at.
also, here's a special case: since blue LEDs are reserved for medical and repair bots, blue is the only color LED you Won't just find on any random non-medical android. saph is a paparazzi photography bot, which is a job Without a standard assigned LED color, and most of her is blue [like her name sapphire get it] But her LEDs are red. it's case by case!
D) AGE
robot age is weird. computers age and grow obsolete MUCH faster than humans do, so livicoms have significantly shorter lifespans. that said, they don't really age like, At All? the only thing that really decays with time is the health of their hardware and technology standards over time.
but as a general rule, all livicoms are adults EXCEPT hibiki, he is the only child because kid-bots are not mass produced, there'd be huge ethical concerns, and the only reason hibiki exists as he is is because he's a Custom model.
but besides him, all livicoms are born as adults with the standard base programming knowledge approximating the maturity, intelligence, and sense of an adult. livicoms are designed to learn and develop individual personalities over time based on experience, which i'll get to in a moment, but the standard base programming For said personality includes simple data determining how mature they should be based on their intended age.
it's basically like sims ages, you got young adults and older adults and the exact number in between is generally a guesstimate based on a sliding scale of "this robot acts like they have the same amount of life experience as a human of this age"
E) PERSONALITY
as i said, livicoms are shipped out with standard base personalities depending on not just their age, but also their primary function.
for example, a retail android on their first day on the job would already have a perfect customer service smile and helpful attitude, but not much else. the unique traits that make each livicom feel less like a mass-produced robot and more like a Person are developed over time based on experience, just like with humans. that customer service bot might grow to hate their job, but they can't stop working it because it's their Sole Purpose In Life, so that friendly smile turns into a sarcastic smirk as they pretend to give a shit about each and every customer.
let's look at some other specific examples: tex is a pretty clear one. he was originally a construction foreman bot, bossing other construction bots around, so he's stern and commanding, yet amicable and social, since he needs to be a good boss.
444 is a search and rescue bot who has come across more dead human bodies than he'd like, so he's become distant, unempathetic, and numb to the suffering of others.
mantid works in a place that gets a lot of human tourists visiting, but he's just pest control, not a tour guide, so he wasn't programmed with any social skills and instead of developing them, he's just become jumpy and always dreading the next person to speak to him mistakenly assuming he;s a tour guide and can tell them about all the flowers in the room.
all this to say: livicom androids are like people, they can have basically any personality, but it makes more sense to have one that lines up with their experiences. and also, the more recently an android came off the assembly line, the Less personality they'll have; they're brand-new, so they're still a blank slate!
F) OVERALL APPEARANCE
halosoft livicom androids are NOT human-passing and they never will be; they MUST look robotic at a glance, so no human skin tones. they didn't even start getting soft artificial hair strands instead of just hard plastic helmets until like 1994. however, they are still Androids, so they must be bipedal and a close enough approximation of a person, so no tank-bots. they Are supposed to be marketable to the general public!
a lot of how your livicom will look will depend on When it was built, so here are some general guidelines for that first
older livicoms [especially circa about 1992 and earlier] tend to be bigger and bulkier to compensate for bigger bulkier hardware on the inside, and their colorschemes tend to run closer to beige box computers, so mostly y'know. shades of beige and grey, mostly. it's good to look at historical computers to get an idea for colorschemes. shapes are mostly sharp and square or triangle. earphones especially tend to be just cubed bulky headphones.
newer livicoms [circa 1998 and on] tend to more closely resemble an imac G3, so they're rounder blobject-type shapes, and colorschemes tend to shift out to the extreme ends of the spectrum, IE instead of greys and beige, now it's closer to black and white, especially white because Y2K futurism is a very Chrome kinda future. they're also generally a little lighter and more compact as technology improves, but it's still windows98 type tech, so it remains pretty bulky. by the year 2000, it starts becoming a trend for humans to like androids with emotive cat ears, so that replaces earphones for a lot of them
android Hair wasn't invented until 1994, and standard colors until 1999 tend to be either "metallic tinted a similar shade to the LEDs" or "black that tints a certain way when the light hits it" or "just dark grey". come 1999, white hair like hibiki's starts becoming the new trendy look, but it'll take until at Least late 2000 for it to become actually Standard
also, for the most part, androids tend not to wear clothes, mostly due to overheating risk [these Are 90s PCs after all]. some androids do wear clothes, but that's usually either for personal reasons or they work somewhere that requires a uniform for human And android employees, or they just work closely with humans and it's to make the humans more comfortable. usually, they just have a built-in bodysuit and light armor
G) EYES
unless your livicom is Brand Brand Brand new, like "built literally this year" new, their eyes will probably be a monochrome LCD display, and there are two types: either a negative display, so the scleras are darker and the irises are lighter, or a positive display, so the opposite. but if your android Was built in 2000, then they'll more likely have 8-bit color display screens, so they can display Lots of colors actually [but still not as many colors as a modern computer screen]. also, android irises/pupils [especially on screen-type eyes] are rectangular/square instead of round
now the thing about android eyesight is, in more cases than not, they don't actually See through their eyes, they're purely cosmetic. for androids with screens for eyes, they're technically blind and see more like silent echolocation! IE with proximity sensors to scan 180 degrees around them. it takes a little extra longer to scan for color data, too. this isn't the Most efficient way androids can see, but for most bots, this is the best way to do it since it provides them with both depth perception And 180 degree vision
the Other type of android eyes is: cameras! these are Not screens, they're camera lenses, and they are FAR less common because they're reserved for bots who Need to see either very very small things or in clear detail. for example: mantid has camera eyes, because he needs to be able to see teeny tiny insects from across the room nestled in among different plants. saph also has camera eyes, but that's because she IS a camera
camera-type eyes, unlike screen eyes, Are actually round, but they still don't pass for human eyes because the sclera and iris are almost indistinguishable from each other from a distance since they're both so dark.
H) FUNCTION-BASED APPEARANCE TRAITS??
OK so obviously a nursebot and a constructionbot are not going to look indistinguishable from each other, they're built to do totally different things, so they should not only look different from each other, but look like what they're supposed to. even within the same primary function, unless they're literally from the exact same model line for the Exact Same Job, no two androids look exactly identical, even though they're mass produced! humans love one-of-a-kind personalized products. plus, it'd be confusing and creepy if All the employees at your local walmart were identical twins
basically: GO NUTS HAVE FUN with incorporating how your livicom's job affects how they look. some livicoms just look human with robotic paneling or earphones, especially if they work closely with humans. it's mostly the armor styles that change; a construction bot might have big gauntlets for better heavy lifting, or even excavator claws for arms. an audio engineer bot might have cables resembling braids for hair to connect to different audio inputs. 444 has big wings that cast a searchlight so he can fly and better find missing people down below. herbie is a delivery bot with built-in heelys and exhaust pipes. hijinx is a clown with big extendo arms???? voltaire is basically a walking male/male plug adapter because he's designed to transfer excess electricity to different sources more in need of it. betsy is a bedside nurse bot, so she's intentionally squishy so that she doesn't accidentally hurt patients or so they can squeeze her arm for comfort while getting an injection
I) COMBAT
this is my favorite part of CMY2K bot conceptualizing and usually like the first or second thing i come up with for them, usually in tandem with their primary function Because their dedicated weapon and/or fighting style is going to Incorporate the unique features from their primary function!
let's use hibiki as the first example, because he's kind of a weird one, especially since he's a custom model. hibiki is basically an astroboy expy, IE he has the jetboots and arm cannons, but there's a FUnctional Reason for that besides just that it's cool. he's a housekeeping bot, so the arm cannons are modified vacuum cleaners, and the jetboots are just so he can reach high shelves. simple!
tex is also pretty straightforward, because he's just a big strong construction bot who punches hard with his big strong hands. voltaire uses that male/male plug adapter i mentioned as whips to wrap around and electrocute.
mantid is literally an Exterminator, but he's a fun one: he doesn't just kill bugs with pesticides or what have you, because that's boring in a combat scenario, instead he snipes with lasers.
sawyer resells used electronics, so he's built-in with a localized EMP generator that disables and shuts down other electronics [including androids] as long as he can close a circuit around it with his hands.
444's big searchlight wings are like a flashbang so he can run, because he really isn't all that interested in fighting, and he sure is good at evading.
072 is a less obvious example because they're just a singer in a pop group, what built-in weapon could they possibly have? well. it's the 90s, wallet chains are a hugely iconic fashion accessory. 072 wears and dances with a big long chain they can also use as a whip, i mean that's the exact reason wallet chains were banned in so many schools LOL
due to the first law of robotics, livicoms aren't designed Intentionally to have weapons, but it's fairly easy to reverse-engineer their unique functions Into weapons, and even for androids who Don't necessarily have anything on them that could be weaponized, they always have the option of Body Modification!
KK is the most obvious example. it won't divulge its original primary function, but let's just say it wasn't something that allowed it to just go and hide things in its pockets. so, once KK jailbroke, the VERY first thing it did was modify itself to turn its entire body into a swiss army knife.
doctor heckle Also modified himself, but for him it was necessary because he had to rebuild his whole body from junk with just an arm and a head. he gave himself like, sickass spider legs on his back that also shoot lasers, and not only that, but he built himself a frankenstein's monster he can pilot like a mech
J) ETC
uh i can't think of anything else. if i missed something obvious feel free to point it out cuz if i Do think of something i'll definitely be editing this later
here's a few pinterest boards i use as design insp, go nuts

Dungeons and Daddies Wiki Drama: A Greek Tragedy Told through the Medium of Forum Posts (Part 4)
Epilogue/Exodus
Phaethon loses control of the chariot's reins.
As of the writing of this post, the wiki forums have stayed largely inactive.
December 22nd, 2023:
Tumblr media
However, the wiki itself has been going through many changes in the days since starting this series, most notably the deletion of all character and location pages.
Yes, you read that correctly: the Dungeons and Daddies wiki will no longer be allowing pages about characters or locations featured in the show.
A quick look at the "All Pages" section of the wiki:
Tumblr media
Only 37 wiki pages remain, all of which are separate pages for each episode of season 1 (and not even all of the episodes- many episodes past episode 33 are simply missing).
If you try to search for a specific character, such as main season 1 character Darryl Wilson:
Tumblr media
The only results are pages of episodes where Darryl is featured (which, as a main character in season 1, is all of them).
This is a baffling decision for wiki moderators to make in good faith. It renders the wiki entirely useless, as fans now have to comb through individual episode pages for simple information on characters or locations. Why on earth would they make this change with no announcement?
The simplest explanation is that these people (or singular person) are not acting on good faith.
Taking a look at the wiki policy & wiki forum rules is also enlightening:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wiki policy as of screenshotting earlier this week, then an addendum for the new rules related to character pages, lagging, and location pages, as of December 22nd, 2023.
These rules are... long, to say the least.
Notably, the second paragraph on the page reads as follows:
"Also, every rule must be taken seriously and if you think this is a joke that is your fault, and if you got blocked because you broke a rule that's your fault because you broke it. Don't try to get out of this, you have to follow the rules."
Again, odd speech patterns and a focus on wiki justice. I'm sensing the work of TwoRatner afoot.
I believe this part was added after penguinwithatophat's question in the forums about whether the rules were serious. The new moderators seem very concerned with being taken seriously and instituting absolute rule over the wiki.
Some rules of interest to me:
"Don't gossip about drama or cause drama."
I've already failed on that count. It appears I might find myself banned from the Dungeons and Daddies Season 1 Wiki.
Tragic.
"Malware, viruses, fetishes, and any links of that variety or any evil lowlife site link will not be allowed to prosper."
The Four Horsemen of wiki moderating: malware, viruses, fetishes, and any links of that variety/any evil lowlife site link.
"You can have alternate accounts, but you should tell everyone it's an alt before using."
"You can not sockpuppet. If you are found sockpuppeting, especially to evade a block, then that account will be blocked indefinitely. You will have a message sent to your main account stating what you did wrong and that you should not do it again."
"Meatpuppetry is semi-allowed, because some blocked users have good requests to give to others. Anyone who doesn't want to change and did severe rule-breaks shouldn't be trusted so you shouldn't add edits on their request, but a user that wants to change can ask a friend to edit for them."
"Don't sockpuppet, ever, especially to evade bans."
Four (4!) separate mentions of sockpuppeting/meatpuppeting in the wiki policy.
"Don't abuse your power. You shouldn't break global polices on FANDOM or attack users just for annoying you. Ask polite questions, or give stern warnings, but don't exact harm or make people feel unsafe by being here."
Seems that this rule for admins is more of a suggestion than a law.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then the forum-specific guidelines (which are also, unsurprisingly, long).
"Be nice and treat people with respect. Keep discussions civil and be open-minded about differing opinions. Don't do other dads dirty. We need this to be a safe and welcoming place."
Again, a rule that seems to be more of a suggestion than a law for the new admin team.
"Don't use sockpuppets to add more votes to yourself or make yourself look good. Just don't use multiple accounts for bad reasons."
"Sockpuppets posting will have their posts removed; no exceptions."
"Alts posting is fine, but remember to state that it's an alt."
"To elaborate, sockpuppets (alt accounts for evading blocks or sabotaging polls) in general are outlawed, and you should never make any."
Again, another four (4!!!) separate mentions of sockpuppeting/alts. They seem very deeply concerned about this potential issue. It's truly unthinkable that someone might take over the forums with multiple accounts, pretend to be more than one person, and use these accounts just to agree with themselves.
Right?
I tried to pick out more favorite rules, but then I realized I was just repeating the entirety of the screenshots. If you're skimming this, I highly recommend pausing to read the entirety of the forum guidelines. They're funnier than I could ever attempt to be.
Now, screenshots of some mod accounts of note.
Dramatis Personae (screenshots taken December 19-22nd, 2023):
Tumblr media
Gaycowboyrats, former administrator of the wiki.
Tumblr media
Honic Washington, (allegedly) former administrator. The link on their page leads to a Reddit acount, which has seemingly been deleted/banned, as mentioned in their forum posts:
Tumblr media
Then some of the main culprits of the new admin team:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TwoRatner, whose account has seemingly been taken over by MitchRiot(er(er)) and been replaced by TwoMarshall. Another reference to account breaches, possibly perpetuated by the mysterious MitchRiot figure.
The link on the TwoRatner page leads to a user account under the same name on the Jonah Who wiki.
Tumblr media
Brazil86, controversial new admin figure and someone who self-avowedly "serves to live."
Then other assorted current & former mods:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As mentioned by Tumblr user spaceyam, Nicoh Watonshing sure sounds similar to Honic Washington.
Tumblr media
(I hadn't noticed this at all until I saw it pointed out in the notes but now it seems incredibly obvious, thank you!!)
The link on TheOneTrueGod41's page also leads to the Jonah Who wiki, but this time to the main page, not a user page.
On Marth8204's page, the link goes to the main page of the Funbob wiki.
As for NicohWatonshing's page link, it leads to a user page for the same name on the Luke Nukem wiki.
Interesting.
It seems that if these are all separate people, they have a history of being editors on niche wikis.
Then, I became curious about the Season 2 wiki.
What was this all for? Why the rush to split the wikis? What was so important about the season 2 pages that they had to be kept separate from season 1?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right.
Thank you to everyone for reading and getting involved in this series! There may be more posts happening if things continue to develop, so stay tuned if you're interested. There also may be a new fan wiki effort underway, keep an eye out for that!

Random ass fic question!
I love all the nitty gritty details that don't necessarily make it into a story, so I'm wondering if you have any particular headcanons and rules for how magic works in the Rune Factory universe when you're doing your rf5 comics?
Oh yes, superb question! Let's talk about the magic system!!!
So in my head, the magic system in the rune factory universe is very systematic and follows researched rules that people have to follow in order for a spell to successfully be performed.
In this world there are runes everywhere. They are entities that exist not entirely in the same plane as everyone else, but can still influence conditions and events that occur in the world. People are aware of their presence and have learned ways to study the rune activity/establish common patterns.
Once those patterns have been established, next they learned that by meeting certain conditions, those patterns can be mimicked via the use of spell casting. If you say X things in the correct way, Y things will happen. So, people conduct experiments and learn spells that make the runes do very specific things. It's very structured and runes will only do exactly what the spell was discovered to do and only when conducted perfectly.
So, spell books are published and people can learn how to cast magic this way. However, the effectiveness of a spell is influenced by a person's affinity to the element of a spell they are casting. Hence elemental levelling up. People tend to have inherent elemental affinities, but this can also be trained through exposure (spending more time near the element for example)
So those are 2 things people have to practice in order to be able to successfully cast a spell: the enchantment and their affinity.
People are limited with how much spell casting they can do based on the amount of rune energy their body is able to store. This is not something that can be trained (at least within the confines of the human lifespan) so at the very least, human characters are a bit limited in their ability to use magic.
Most people tend to learn a couple of simple spells that match their inherent affinity simply out of exposure but for the most part, spell casting is commonly done only by people with high runic stores (Earthmates are a good example of this)
And speaking of Earthmates, now's a good time to segway to one of our outlier Earthmates: Ares.
If Ares was born earlier in the the rune factory universe, I wouldn't consider him much of an outlier. However during the present time of rune factory 5, society has been becoming more modernized post fall of Sechs Empire. A lot of people have been losing touch with the runes and can't see them anymore. With that, magic has become more structured and industrialized than ever.
(I based this off of the fact that runey days were a thing in rf4 that didn't carry over into rf5; On especially energy filled days, townsfolk of rf4 would talk about seeing runeys but none of the townsfolk ever talk about seeing runeys in 5 so I decided that means people can't see them anymore)
Unlike most people in present time, Ares can still see the runes and is very in touch with the energy circulating around him. Because of that, he can actively listen to what the runes are saying to him. If he can clearly imagine what he wants to have happen happening, he can copy the flow of the runic energy around him to make that imagining a reality.
So rather than using structured spells, Ares can essentially create a unique spell for every situation he is in and get very specific results.
This is the biggest difference between his spell casting abilities and Alice's. Being Earthmates, they both have a practically unlimited supply of runes and can keep casting without much need to replenish, but Alice isn't able to see the runes so she has to follow instructions from a spell book to make a spell work. Ares can create new spells on the spot that are perfectly specific to the exact situation he is in and can rarely be used anywhere else.
I would put our 2 dragon sisters in this category too. While Livia hasn't demonstrated much magic use, if she did I would assume she would do so in a very similar way to Ares. Radea's strategy is just scream her runes at people so if she had any other goal other than to hurt people with her magic, it would probably manifest like this as well.
Lastly, Lucas. Because he is considered a god in the story I basically give him carte blanche. He can kinda just do whatever he wants in the story and rules that aren't his own don't apply to him.
Thanks for this question! I've been meaning to get around to talking about the magic system and this gave me the perfect opportunity to get started! Hope this lore dump made sense XD

What do you think gay men are attracted to in men that they can’t be attracted to in women?
It can’t be anything about femininity or masculinity obviously. That’s both sexist, and cultural so can’t be what drives men-only attraction.
It can’t be anything about stated identity because someone could lie just as easily as they could tell the truth in such a statement, and it makes no sense because homosexuality and heterosexuality exists in other species with no stated identities. It’s not like other animals without gender are all pan.
Saying idk it’s the vibes or some indescribable trait men have that women can’t but “I can’t explain” is a nonanswer.
Soooooooo what is it? Or do you think any sexuality but bi/pan is just cultural performance or an identity rather than an inborn orientation?
- [ ]
Anon, the reason for anyone's sexuality is incredibly complicated and varying. Every gay guy I know will have a different reason they're attracted to men, and different traits they're attracted to. Every single person in the whole world will have a different reason for whichever feeling they experience, that's accumulated from their individual experiences and tastes, cultural experiences and just how they were born.
Sexuality doesn't follow any specific recipe, in the same way humans don't in general. You're looking at the entire scope of sexuality from the wrong angle, because you seem to be assuming every single gay experience feels the same and follows some exact predictable pattern every single time.
For whatever reason you're trying to contain and find a cookie cutter reason to sexuality. For some reason you're trying to apply a single reason to a huge, varying demographic of people who you're only defining with one trait. But you just can't, I'm sorry lol
I can tell you're trying for some reason to get a specific answer out of me, presumably to 'catch me out', or make yourself feel better over whatever is knawing at you enough that you're trying to get a very specific answer to something that's impossible to give a specific answer to.
I hope whatever's got you into this headspace leaves you at some point, and that you eventually get some peace of mind/ become happy in yourself.

Y'all ever just tat a cube? (In progress, obviously). Also, I'm tatting continuously!! (ie, I'm not making individual square units and joining them).
This is my 3D take on tattingbythebay's "magic square" variation on Mary Konior's "patchwork" square.
Magic squares are cool. I decided to make a cube with a magic square pattern because cubes are made of squares. You can "path" a cube's faces if you cut them into triangle halves.
I don't have a good two dimensional representation of this but this might make sense to someone:
Tumblr media
You start at the squiggly line on the right and follow it left. Or vice versa.
This is great because magic squares are actually made of units that are this exact shape: triangles (specifically, right isoceles triangles).
Four magic square units makes one square. You may be thinking, this math doesn't add up! How is it both two and four units that make a square?
Here's the pattern (from the article above):
Tumblr media
See how the unit is a right isoceles triangle? If you join four along their shorter sides, you get a square. Joining two along the longer sides also gives you a square, just smaller.
Magical!
Anyway I've completed the dark blue portion of the diagram above, and am working on the first purple section.
I need to find a clever way to stiffen the whole thing. I don't think the usual starching will do. Trying to think of a clever way to incorporate wire...
If you're interested in this, give it a try! I'm having to adapt the corners of the triangle units -- left the third blue unit unfinished and used two split rings to start the first purple triangle. I suspect similar things may happen later on, and we'll see if the pattern is completeable.
I do suspect that magic square patterns can simply be adapted into magic cubes.

I agree with you wholly about Orym, but I still feel new-ish to D&D so I have a question. If the followers still have their god given abilities after their actions, then aren't the gods implicitly giving their ok on it? Wouldn't it also be a god problem? The people in that town being allowed to do things in Pelor's name and keep their powers should reflect also on him, no?
Hey! This is a really good question, and the answer is that in D&D 5e at least, it's sort of at the discretion of the DM, but the way a lot of people handle it is that the gods kind of...check in on patterns every so often, but aren't micromanaging every single follower and so you might catch someone prior to their divine performance review. It's how you reconcile the idea of free will in a world with real gods, so it gets very, admittedly, fuzzy and whatever supports the narrative.
We've seen a little bit of this play out for lesser idols with Fjord and Uk'otoa in C2 for a warlock relationship, in which Uk'otoa took away the powers temporarily as a warning, and then withdrew them permanently after Fjord explicitly broke the pact, but clerics and paladins are different and usually have more leeway. We saw a little bit of that very early in C1 with Pike, and it was discussed but didn't ultimately end up happening with Vax. Clerics and paladins often don't have a clear directive and have a lot of free will, but a pattern of behavior or a really egregious violation might lead to a warning (as Pike received - in game, she still had her powers after being warned). Retracting the powers will likely only occur after continued violations. Essentially, one only is a cleric after having a pretty good buildup of good will with a god, and they will usually give multiple chances and might be very forgiving with their clerics, perhaps to a fault.
I also want to throw in that technically, you can be a cleric (or paladin) of a concept or principle. This isn't typically the case in Exandria from what we've seen, but it is true in D&D 5e in general (this is how Eberron and Ravnica's settings work) and power comes more from one's own faith and conviction.
Now, as for whether it should reflect on the gods for other people: absolutely. Like, to be clear, I think in-game the villagers hating at the Dawnfather as well as the people perpetuating harm is valid. I think going straight to "this random complete stranger speaking to us magically telling us to kill all the gods, including those who hate the Dawnfather, is someone we should listen to" is less valid.
Finally: we don't know what Kiro's situation was - she may have been warned in the past and ignored it, or she may have been acting in accordance with broad tenets and Pelor hadn't looked on the specifics. I also want to note that we don't know the exact mechanics of the angel that appeared. My personal thought is that it was a spell (or because she's an NPC, a very specific ability) similar to Planar Ally, rather than the Dawnfather suddenly directing his attention to this singular conflict.

hello! it's your friendly anon again :D! i truly love how details you are with your headcanons! the isadora headcanon is my favorite!
this been on my mind after browsing your blog a bit, so i hope you don't mind me asking once again. as your main focus is the unfortunate generation, especially the quagmire triplets, do you have any thoughts or headcanons for the other kids? in particular, fiona? fiona is one my favorite characters next to the quags. i would love to read anything you have for her.
Hi again anon! :) Great hearing from you again! :D I’m really happy you liked the last hcs I did!!!! :)))
I have lots of hcs for the unfortunate gen so I’ll just stick to answering for Fiona in this so my answer doesn’t turn out to be the length of a novel! :) [feel free to ask for the other characters again tho+I will happily answer in detail!]
Thoughts about Fiona:
Not hesitating is definitely a key aspect of her character (I mean that one’s obvious tho) but I like how consistent this is with all aspects of her. She doesn’t hesitate to take charge but she also doesn’t hesitate to correct those who are in charge, like correcting Captain Widdershins by adding “or she” to his motto.
{ Negative side of this? Not hesitating for long enough to kiss Klaus. As in, not even waiting for his consent. Although it is stated on page 232 of ‘The Grim Grotto’ that Fiona “hesitated for a small moment” the fact that Klaus’ reaction to the kiss of to lift “one trembling hand to his face, as if Fiona had given him a slap instead of a kiss” clearly conveys how the kiss was unwanted. Although I personally believe it was more so due to circumstances than attraction that the kiss was unwanted as Fiona does this after betraying the Baudelaires. }
Wracking up life experiences like kissing is maybe something Fiona is trying to do as she may feel she’s missing out by spending her time isolated from her peers on a submarine. Maybe she didn’t even want to kiss Klaus specifically, maybe she just wanted to kiss someone. Resulting in her failing to consider (or failing to act on the possibility) that the romantic desire was not mutual or that it shouldn’t have been acted on under those circumstances, i.e, kissing your crush right after revealing you have teamed up with the guy who has been stalking him+his siblings trying to murder+kidnap them.
Loyal: I know she may seem like one of the least loyal characters in the series given (SPOILERS FOR ‘THE GRIM GROTTO’) how in TGG she betrays the Baudelaires, choosing to join the ‘bad’ side of VFD over helping them however thinking about all that time she spent isolated, likely thinking+imagining scenarios where her brother-Fernald/the hook-handed man- had stayed with her…the fact that Fiona still chooses her brother over her friends despite him abandoning her and becoming a villain clearly conveys how deeply loyal she is to her family.
“mother is dead” “father moved away” “stepfather has abandoned me”
“my brother may not be as wonderful as you Baudelaires, but he’s the only family I have. Aye! I’m staying with him! Aye!” [‘The Grim Grotto’ Chapter 13, page 224]
The fact that in this outburst Fiona is (subconsciously?) mimicking the speech patterns “Aye!” of the stepfather who abandoned her is another level of sad. She has to follow her family because she knows that if she doesn’t then she will be left behind.
***
I noticed a slight parallel between Fiona’s character and Olaf in the Netflix version. (Not exact wording)
Violet: His name’s Phil.
Fiona: Well, I call him Cooky.
Vs
Fiona: His name’s Fernald.
Olaf: Well, I call him Hooky.
In Fiona’s case I doubt the nickname was meant as insulting given how Phil says he doesn’t care what he’s called whereas in Olaf’s case Fernald tried multiple times to tell Olaf his name but was shut down every time. This shows how although Fiona’s actions may be similar to some of the villainous characters (E.g by joining the ‘bad’ side of the schism) her good intentions are what sets her apart.
***
The way she folded her family photo in Netflix!TGG was having creases between each person in the photo (photo of younger Fiona with her stepfather and Fernald). This could be so that she only sees the image she wants to see when looking at it, E.g, folding Fernald away so she sees only her stepfather+her and doesn’t have to remember the pain of Fernald being gone.
Defiant: A detail I remember from the book version of TGG is ‘or she’ being scratched next to the quote ‘He who hesitates is lost.’ I like how she’s willing to noticeably+permanently challenge flawed things. Especially given how she may have risked punishment for this ‘vandalism’.
Capable+Independent: in Netflix!TGG Fiona was able to successfully control an entire submarine on her own!! She even repaired damaged solo! This is impressive (if a little sad that so much responsibility+pressure has been placed on her…)
I love how said independence clashes with Violet’s character. These two have had to take charge of things for their own safety (+the safety of siblings for Violet) that it’s difficult for them to follow decisions made by the other.
In terms of VFD…she’s in deep😟… Fiona didn’t even know what was in the sugar bowl but still chose to pursue that inanimate object over taking three children to ‘safety’. Also, in her telegram to Kit Snicket in ‘The Grim Grotto’ she mentioned the safety of the sugar bowl BEFORE the danger that three live human beings aka the Baudelaires were in. Yikes. (Ig that’s what growing up surrounded entirely by VFD members can do…)
Sorry to low-key insult her like this but Fiona had no need to reveal Fernald was her brother to Olaf. The revelation would be more likely to get her used as blackmail to get Fernald to do Olaf’s bidding than anything else tbh. (Scene took place in TGG when Olaf was threatening to kill Fernald and had his hands to his throat, pushed up against a wall). Maybe the threat of the situation caused Fiona to act without thinking. Especially given the ‘no hesitating’ mindset that’s been drilled into her.
Major respect to Fiona for somehow putting up with this mess of a man for YEARS :’) [Cap Widdershins]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is probably reading WAY too into it but you said you like my detailed analysis so,like a submarine, I’ll dive in DEEP. Fiona’s glasses are shaped like isosceles triangles: 2 sides equal, 1 different. Fiona+Fernald on one side of VFD captain Widdershins on another. 🔼
2 angles the same, 1 different. Fiona being willing to see things from Fernald’s angle. Cap Widdershins being unbudging.
Or, Captain Widdershins + Fernald knowing secrets that are “too terrible for young people to know” whilst Fiona is left in the dark. Someone is always left out in their family trio.
Hc that post-canon Fiona living on land would choose clothes like jumpsuits that resemble what she wore on the Queequeg for familiarity. Refuses to go to the opticians to update her prescription for the longest time bc she doesn’t want to change her triangle glasses. Klaus avidly encourages her to avoid the opticians. Eventually she goes bc she is informed that she can keep the frames+just change the lenses if she wants to. 👓
Fiona would find it really difficult to adjust to ‘normal’ life post-canon (if she ever gets that chance-) bc ordinary life would be so STRANGE to her after growing up underwater 🌊 surrounded entirely by VFD members. Poor girl probably thinks communicating via secret code through literary references is normal. Also she’s not had many peers to interact with so that’d be an issue. Not to mention things VFD (especially the ‘bad’ side) may have forced her to do that she’d have to come to terms with…
Uses ‘Shiitake mushrooms!’ as a swear 🍄.
Hope you like this analysis, anon! Sorry this took a while, Fiona is a complicated character+I wanted to do her justice. :)
Also, she would use this mug I found on Pinterest! ☕️

What if I asked you for your nd vessels hc's?
Tumblr media
This is a photo of my brain worm, btw♡
Oh, gods, they are so scattered in my brain and I feel like I forgot most of them, but here's a few that come to mind right now:
rsd hits Vessel and III hard. Vessel shuts down and stops talking, and can take the wrong wording and tone really seriously, so it can happen that the others just worded something wrong when they weren't paying that much attention and Vessel thinks that he did something wrong. III sometimes feels that he is a bother and tries pulling away, then feels guilty for doing that and needs a lot of reassurance that he's not too much
my autistic!Vessel hc is that he can cook, but likes baking more. if he does cook, he needs straightforward instructions and when the others start throwing around 'pinch'es and 'some's, he quickly gives up and leaves it to them. maybe he gets a little sensitive about it and lets them cook most of the time, so they can season to their taste, but they try to transcribe their recipes so he can follow written measurements
at one point I was like: I bet Vessel has really bad misophonia, then I remembered Vore, so that hc is standing on a shaky foundation
plushies!!! the manor is a plushie household. I would say all of them have their own favorites that they squish/hug when watching TV or rub when in need of stimulation/soothing
II needs his spaces organized, otherwise he can't think. he's prone to taking on too much and getting intense anxiety/panic attacks from task-overwhelm and the others constantly have to gently remind him to take it easy
III has a bunch of fidget toys and rings he spins on his fingers (definitely not borrowed from Vessel. he also plays with the ones on Vessel's fingers, too, if they sit together)
Vessel is really good at pattern-recognition, and loves symmetry in most things. tapping fingers has to be to a certain rhythm and it has to be repeated an exact number of times or else it's off
III gets attached to objects, mostly things he found (cool stones and stuff) and gifts from the others
II taps his foot and plays an imaginary double bass sometimes
IV loves to-do lists and having tasks organized. it keeps his anxiety at bay, because it minimizes the chance that he forgot something
Vessel and IV like shopping the least out of the four. Vessel gets overwhelmed by choices and people, and feels anxious about lingering in the store, because he feels that he's in the way/looks weird. IV wears noise-cancelling headphones most times and gives Ves the shopping list so he can focus on that and they can get it done quickly. also they all encourage each other to get little treats and buy food if they get hungry, so no one is grouchy on the way home/if they still have to cook
also, shopping trip panic attacks mean at least one person goes to the car with the one panicking, and the others finish. if it's the two of them, they abandon shopping to make sure the other is okay. comfort and safety first. shopping can wait. there's no snapping/being annoyed about having to go back some other time
this became a bit rambly, sorry about that. I don't really hc specific conditions/disorders, rather symptoms, I guess and it seems most of the time I let my brain sneak in stuff unconsciously into my writing that I realize while editing/rereading and go 'wait a minute'

what if we kissed. and we were both worms on strings. *smooches you for this ask* 💖
