Grimm put up a good fight😌for the prompt asks I would like to see him and Hollow with something from a series of "firsts". IE, first kiss, first hand hold, first time accidentally setting one of the Dirtmouth houses on fire, ect ect. Just one of those things will do, anything ya want! I like fluffy "first" prompts 💖💕
I'm not back from my mini hiatus but I wrote this in record time and I don't know if you see my Ao3 updates or not so I wanted you to see it. <3
b u r n || AO3
If there is anything that I have learned, in all of my years, throughout lifetime after lifetime after lifetime, it is that nothing ever truly stays buried.
Not truths. Not lies.
And most certainly not a hurt so deep that I find myself impressed it hasn’t a smell.
It is a tangible thing, the way that it clings to its every motion. It is a myriad of shadows and regret and it drips off it. I am reminded, continuously, of the great sheets of water carried by the devastating storms that blow in parts of the wastelands beyond.
Those are places it has never seen; that few, if any, in this kingdom have.
I would invite it to come with me, if I thought it would accept. It will not.
Its place is here, in this dying kingdom that moulded it from the fathomless void below. An artisan, that Wyrm – I cannot deny that part of me is jealous at the sheer marvel of creation his vessels are.
I have a favourite one, though, and it is not my summoner.
It is instead the creature that my summoner rescued, when it scaled the Godseeker’s mountainous challenge in order to blot the sun from the sky.
I should be more bitter, perhaps. My Ritual remains incomplete. I do not know if it will return and that is a problem for me. The child remains dormant in the charm, left in my tents, awaiting its return – and I am distracted instead by its birth-cursed sibling, pock-marked with scars and peppered with burns that Soul should long have healed.
I do not think it can channel anymore.
This is, perhaps, the source of its predicament: it is standing in front of its old prison and assaulting my senses all over again with a depth of feeling that makes me question the merit in the Wyrm’s so-called foresight. If my eyes can see the cloak of regret that it wears, surely his could have as well if he’d but known to look.
Ah, but perhaps that is unkind of me: we are ever slaves to sentiment and it is not uncommon for someone to see what they wish to see. I am no stranger to such concepts. I see what I want to with it as well. I see a creature with potential to be so much more. I see pain that can find closure, if guided by deft hands. I see a strength unmatched by any that I have ever beheld, and I am at once enamoured and intimidated. I do not spook easily but it seared and burnt without breaking.
It is impressive.
It is also trying with abject futility to do something with sticks that I can only guess the purpose for.
“Hello, my friend,” I greet it  softly and I stay out of its reach.
Sneaking up on someone who has hurt for so long and with no relief is not wise. Sneaking up on someone with a particular grievance with those who have an affinity for dreams is even less so. I give it the space it requires.
It turns back to me. I can make no emotion out in its mask and that is by design. Its siblings are both the same, although the spider’s tones when she speaks have plenty of inflection - more than enough to deliver intent.
I wonder what it thinks of me. What it beholds when it looks upon another… vessel of a fashion. We are not entirely different in that regard, but the origin and motivations between our natures are worlds apart.
It watches me with an intensity that I find at once daunting and incredibly fascinating.
This is not our first meeting. The spider dragged it out of the Black Egg and to my tents. I am more qualified to help deal with injuries wrought in dream than any other and, as loathe as she was to admit it, I was the best option that she had for help. We bandaged it together and she never let her eyes leave mine. She introduced the two of us and when the deed was done, she took it away. I assume to a house in Dirtmouth. I did not ask.
I am not exactly welcome by the locals.
I saw it descend into the well when I was talking to the steeds. I will not lie: I followed out of curiosity for its purpose.
This place must bring back a lot of memories for it. It has, after all, known very little else and every other place that it spent time is long gone.
I let my gaze go up to the Temple. It is carved in the husk of a great void beast and enchanted with seals that, even in their darkened state, are impressive. There are tangled veins of withered, dead infection: brown and mottled instead of the sickly orange-gold that I know was once here. The pustules yet remain, hanging off the building as a macabre reminder of the prisoner’s previous state.
I think that it should not be here.
My opinion, however, is not one that it has any obligation to listen to.
“What are you doing?” I ask, and I close the distance once I am sure that I have not startled it. I have practice dealing with people who have been badly traumatised. My Troupe is often alluring to individuals of that nature. It is no different in that regard.
It holds up a stick for me to see and then looks down again. I cannot shake the feeling that the motion is one born of shame. It was supposed to not think or feel, I recall – to be truly empty, to be the perfect shell its sire needed. It is none of those things, and it is embarrassed by that. Hence the weight worn over it, a mantle to be crushed beneath.
I do not understand its meaning. Perhaps I am not meant to.
“Does your sister know that you are here?”
It does not answer. Not in a nod or a headshake, though I am fully aware it is capable of both. It stares instead at the stick in its hand.
There are rocks beneath its hand on the ground, and they have clearly been moved there from their previous positions.
I know what I am looking at.
“Are you attempting to make a fire?” I ask, my hands lacing together under my cape. When I stand this way, I appear smaller. It is much bigger than I am, but both hunched and crouched, I practically tower over it and there is something in its demeanour that suggests it would rather itself disappear as well.
A broken thing, the Hollow Knight.
I am given an answer in the form of a nod and I allow myself to chuckle.
“To burn the Temple?”
Another nod.
I hold my hand out, then; it is an invitation.
“How big of a fire would you like?”
It cocks its head to the side. It does not know if it can trust me. In fact, it probably thinks that it should not. After everything it has been through, I cannot fault it. It does take my hand and let me help it stand and I consider that to be a victory.
Its head inclines toward the building. I cannot see where it is looking, not really, beyond the structure, but my feeling is that it probably…
… wants quite a large one.
Or at least, I would want a very large pyre indeed, if I were confronted with a place that housed my worst memories.
“Stand back, if you please,” I request, and it is obedient: it complies by taking enough steps back that I wonder if it is running. It is not. It watches me.
What kind of performer would I be, if I did not give it a worthy show?
I held my hand above my head and offered it a very satisfying snap. The fire on the building ignited in the same moment: crackling flames, dancing freely up the sides in a scarlet that put my eyes to shame.
I drop my hand to my side and look back over my shoulder. It creeps closer, until it is at my side, but it is spellbound. I do not need to see its eyes to know that they are trained on the dancing light consuming the shell. Burn. Burn.
“Bigger?” I ask and I smile. It nods without looking my way and I curve my wrist; I pull my fingers closer and the roar of the flames becomes louder yet still.
The shell is strong. It is not particularly vulnerable to heat and yet with enough effort –
I heard it crack. I heard the top of the shell – the de facto roof, really – cave in and embers fell into the middle chambers. From there, it was only a matter of time until the inferno took hold.
“There is catharsis in saying goodbye to the things that have caused us pain,” I tell it and it does not look at me. I move over to the side, so that I am close enough to touch, and then lean my head over to rest against its side. “I would be your friend, if you would allow me.”
It does not look at me. I did not expect it to.
I also did not expect its hand to snake down and lace its fingers with mine, but it does: it curls them into the spaces where mine are.
I smile wider. With my free hand, I coax the flames to dance ever higher for it to watch. They crackle and offer a very satisfying pop.
It will not take long to burn it to ash.
I will stay with it until then. I have ever loved having a rapt audience.

I know you said you didn’t want to nag me but I am playing along anyway cause I want to :3
Rex knew that intense gaze, slated with creeping paranoia, and he knew what lay on his General’s mind, before he even spoke.
“Did anyone see you?” Skywalker asked, tone low, as his gaze roved over his armor, assuming that it would make him a sore thumb in a crowd this low in Coruscant’s underbelly.
“No—and if they did, there isn’t a thing they could do to me—” Rex assured, taking a few more shambling steps into the apartment.
He wanted to remove his boots, shed himself of his armor, but his limbs felt sluggish with the pounding hurricane of pain in his skull, slow to respond to his desire. He didn’t want to dirty the floor with whatever his boots tracked in from his journey here.
“I do not doubt your ability to—” his Jedi started once more, tone bordering on argumentative. A mood Rex did not presently have the patience for, given both his migraine and the sheer amount of times this conversation had been held before.
There was always one, quite easy way to get his Jedi to stop in his tracks.
“Anakin.” Rex snapped out, heaving a breath as another flow of pain shocked through his temples, burning in his eyes, sharp stabbing things of pain.
Anakin clicked his mouth shut, and like a light switch being flipped, his demeanor snapped from paranoia to sudden, intense concern. He wasted no time in stepping right into Rex’s space, hands held up, already fretting over him with gentle touches along his flanks and arms. Rex held his head up enough to look into Skywalker’s eyes, blue like the ocean, the pupil of them shrinking, the faux sunset lighting from the street lamps outside—shed through a single window carved into the far wall of the living room—casting them a shade lighter, warmer, than they were normally. His brow furrowed, the skin between pinching, and Rex drank in the sight of the man before him—with his hair soft and fluffy in the faux light, fly away curls highlighted in copper, lit up like a fiery halo.
“You are not feeling well, are you, my Captain?” Skywalker asked, slowly, a hand reaching up to gently cradle his jaw.
It’s a lot but I also did not want to cut it down. So enjoy the extra shippy nonsenses.

Don’t mean to be intrusive but why do you engage with tenrose and rose haters?? All these tenm/rtha fans that you’ve been reblogging slander Ten, Rose and their relationship. And they pretend to support 9/Rose to not look so bad, but it’s sheer hypocrisy, they are straight up Rose antis in disguise and you can tell that because they always say they love “s1 Rose specifically” (which usually it’s said by people who hate Rose but don’t want to look bad, so they come up with that ‘I used to love Rose in s1 but she became so selfish, annoying and awful in s2’), then they call tenrose ‘shallow’ and ‘forced’, ‘downgrade from Nine/Rose’, ‘irritating’ etc. It’s also not rare to see them mocking Tentoo by calling him “a clone”, and dishing TentooRose. Don’t mind you liking the ship, but its fanbase don’t deserve our attention.
First of all, I apologize for the lengthy thought vomit in advance — I just woke up!
To be 100% honest with you, I’m such a casual Tumblr user that I’m a bit of a sweet summer child, here. 98% of my fandom engagement happens on Discord. 😅 I have occasional days that I might scroll for 15-20 minutes, but it’s usually more like a few minutes, if at all. This website stresses me out, makes me insecure, etc.
My point is: I don’t actually know any of the assorted tumblr beefs floating around, and I don’t really care. I try to avoid “anti discourse” like the plague if I do (see above: stresses me out)— So if I’ve been reblogging haters, it’s gone right over my head, because I just don’t think about it. It’s one of those “if I don’t see it, then whatever” things. I’d rather just be kind to everyone unless I’m given a reason not to (e.g. someone being a piece of shit to one of my friends)(which I probably wouldn’t have seen anyway).
Also… I’m not the most prolific person or anything. I don’t have a lot of followers, I came to game late, etc, so I didn’t necessarily think anyone cared one way or another what I was posting? For real, I feel a bit invisible on Tumblr most of the time 😂 I didn’t realize anyone would look twice at me reblogging something from an apparent “hater” when they can obviously look at my page and figure out what I’m really about. I’ve got a petition to bring back Tentoo, FFS, obviously I don’t deliberately subscribe to any anti-TenRose nonsense.
I’ve been told by a friend (one who is far more enmeshed in Tumblr than I am) that most T/M shippers hate Rose. So inherently, yes, I’m aware of that much — and realize that if I get one of the “based on your likes!” posts from someone who is clearly out there shipping that pairing specifically, they probably don’t care for my actual OTP… But if I’m reblogging something by one of these people with these blissful blinders on, I’d much rather look at it like “perhaps they’ll realize not all T/R girls are bad, and they’ll be nicer to them” as opposed to “I’m engaging with haters”.
Anyway — apologies if I upset you by supporting these people who’ve bummed you to anyone else out 💖 That wasn’t my intention, all I ever wanna do is spread love.
PS: The whole T/M subject is already a hairy one for me, because I didn’t even ship them at all (and I mean at all) until I was well into writing a fic about them. It just sort of happened organically/accidentally, and then I was like “Shit.” That being said, if you see my posts, you can probably tell that I’m extremely selective about what T/M stuff I do share here. I try not to reblog anything too shippy of them, because I do know my audience, even if it’s not a huge audience. My focus was always more “don’t reblog super romantic shit”, not “don’t reblog that user specifically”. If that makes sense. 😅

Hi i love your casa tidmouth!!! I saw the ask about james pairing and wondered if there any pairing for diesel, oliver or lady? Also happy holidays!!!
thank you very much!!! ALSO HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR AHHHHHH I'M SO SO SORRY FOR ANSWERING THIS LATE.... I WANTED TO ANSWER THIS ASK AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE SO 🙏🙏🙏
I also apologize if some parts don't really sound very shippy because I thought it'd be a good chance to showcase some bits of lore character relationships in general... ANYWAYS!!!! HAVE FUN READING
diesel:
you could say that diesel's currently not interested in anyone, at least in a romantic sense. diesel used to have a small crush on mavis but no longer did after she told him she's a lesbian. now they're just... besties? frenemies? diesel and mavis gets into trouble together, except diesel's the one who incites it (arry and bert just follows) and mavis just happens to be there. diesel gets himself into trouble because of his schemes while mavis (begrudgingly) gets him out of it, though she usually also gets the short end of the stick alongside diesel. mavis also thought that diesel is constantly up to no good, though this is mostly because mavis just wants to live a simple life with as little problems as possible (literally impossible because she lives in so-freaking-dor)
however in act 2, mavis started to feel suspicious about diesel with how he always disappears somewhere at nights. even though they're both affiliated with the dieselworks (since they both drive diesel engines), she suspected that diesel might've been getting himself involved with d10 lately and is now genuinely siding with someone threatening instead of just being mildly inconveniencing. she's now conflicted between wanting to confront diesel in order to protect the person she cares about, or avert her eyes and live in blissful ignorance.
not shippy, but worth mentioning: diesel and duck started off as great enemies at the start of the story. before the events of casa tidmouth, after thinking duck wanted to leave him for dead (he was still new to sodor and has no idea people rarely die in sodor's railways), diesel spread horrific rumours about duck's family, which triggered the start of his axe-crazy tendencies (he's incredibly desperate to make his family proud. you know the drill). neither of them expressed guilt -- they do feel it -- for their actions towards one another because of how stubborn they are. they also have really different worldviews; diesel wanted progress, while duck wanted to stick with the old ways.
their backgrounds were really similar, too. both of their families were incredibly traditional, but while duck followed them like a dog, diesel rejected them. they could've respected each other or even become friends, if only their stubborness didn't blind them. perhaps things could change in act 2...?
speaking of act 2, diesel teamed up with d10 and got pretty close to him, partly because he realized d10's power is now heavily relying on the competence of his minions (and they're really not) and partly because they both share the same worldviews about progress. he's basically his right hand man, doing all the convincing and talking while d10 is having this big internal crisis going on. you could say it's also his curiosity taking place, since he wonders what the "most menacing man in all of sodor" will do once he hits rock bottom. diesel also convinced percy to join the workers of dieselworks when he was at his lowest, saying "I know a man who would respect your ambitions."
in addition, diesel is still coming into terms with his identity because of his huge catholic guilt. this fucking guy
oliver:
even though he's usually no-nonsense and avoids conflict and island mysteries at any cost, oliver has a huge soft spot for douglas. they first met around 5 years ago when oliver was lost in a forest in bumfuck nowhere, being the victim of time and space displacement alongside a young man called toad -- who barely said a word -- and having lost a lot of his memories. he lived inside his rusty engine with toad for years in solitude. after a few years had passed, he met douglas, who ended up there as well (he assumed that he's the same as him) and bonded with him over the days he was stuck there.
with douglas' presence, oliver felt much less alone. and vice versa. toad also got along with douglas, which made oliver felt relieved. oliver initially didn't have much motivation to get himself out of the situation (toad didn't express much either and only wanted to stick with oliver) and nearly gave up, but after meeting douglas and listening to his stories about missing his brother and wanting to go back home, oliver regained his motivation to keep on trying. he also set his thoughts of finding whoever's responsible aside for the sake of douglas and toad.
after the three of them were rescued by duck and donald and nursed back to health, oliver intended to take his leave, still a bit bent on finding whoever's responsible for his lost memories and broken engine. but then sir topham hatt suggested that he could work for the northwestern railways ("who knows? it could help you find what you're looking for, mr. swindon.")
the next day, douglas expressed gratitude to oliver for saving his life and accompanying him throughout the days he was lost in a forest. oliver instead shot back with a smile, "actually, douglas, you're the one who saved me. even though I still remember nothing about my past, I now remember what I was fighting for. myself, and my engine."
fun fact: you know oliver jr., oliver's tamagotchi? douglas was the one who gifted it to him. since the first generation of tamagotchis die easily if not given care 24/7, douglas went all the way to the steamworks and convinced victor (doctor, engineer, guy with at least 3 phds) to modify it and make it practically immortal. oliver received this gift extremely happily, though he sometimes wonders if something is different with his tamagotchi (douglas just said that he probably got the most special ultra rare yadda yadda version).
oliver and douglas are also one of the more "normal" pair in all of casa tidmouth (2x3x4 have communication issues thus can only pine over each other, 8x9 are... uh... murderhusbands, mavis is oblivious to lady's true identity, lady and d10 have similar twisted views on humanity, etc).
lady:
even though nobody (aside from thomas and percy) knows about lady being the island's goddess, almost every single woman in casa tidmouth likes her. mavis, emily, rosie, belle, daisy, etc... they all collectively thought "haha wow weird silly woman is pretty". she's way too oblivious and thought that it's just some quirk humans have, though. HOWEVER, she's really close with mavis, who showed lady around the quarry when she first arrived in sodor. mavis also wanted to "shield" lady from all the general weirdness around sodor, assuming that she's originally from outside the island. on the other hand, lady's optimism started to make mavis relax more from her coworker diesel's antics. also mavis thinks she's kinda hahah hey girl
in act 2, after news of missing railway workers came out, mavis tried to convince lady to leave the island. she felt like lady knows a lot more than she looks, but she's not taking any risks to have the person she holds dear get involved. lady just felt really guilty, but (after going through character progression and developing more "human" emotions like happiness, guilt, melancholy, "selfish" motivations, yadda yadda) she has a feeling that if she revealed her true identity, it's not going to end smoothly.
I've also mentioned something about lady and d10 being really close in a qpp type of way had their circumstances been different. they're both people who find it really hard to connect to others; the former being a goddess with different perceptions on morality and the latter being a guy who has low empathy and a whole lot of personality disorders. here's the post explaining their relationship

In your answer to an ask (and just to say it, I LOVE Aeryn and Thancred!), you wrote the following that really stuck out to me:
I can't find it, but at some point I've noted that characters that seem to "do their own thing" are really just our subconscious taking the wheel; we are responsible for our characters' builds and their choices, but for me, a "successful" character who unfolds like I'm discovering them and their life, who surprises me with choices and actions, is cuz I gave them a solid enough grounding, know who they are...and my unconscious goes from there, usually cuz my conscious is holding myself back due to all the usual fearful, imposter-syndrome-laden reasons.
That really resonated with me, especially considering the various discussions I had about that with pretty popular fanfic writers who have never understood how a character surprises a writer.
And I mean, I get the argument - as you said, we as the writers are controlling the character and the story. And still I get surprised by my characters, even if I deliberately bring them into a situation with an intended outcome - suddenly, I'm in the middle of a scene and go "No, wait, they wouldn't react that way / do that actually."
I never really had an answer to counter the "I control everything, I never get surprised by characters", but I think your point about having given them a solid enough groundwork and the subconscious drawing from that is very, very true.
Thank you; I'm still always a little surprised when people like my shippy nonsense! You'd think I'd have accepted that by now and yet.... 😅
And yeah, we know how we, the writers, respond to things and can want a scene to go. But if we are "listening" to our characters--to ourselves and how we built them, and trust those instincts, then the characters seem to take that "life of their own." We let go of our own inhibitions and what we know are the "right/correct/etc" choices and let the characters be themselves--be who we made them to be.
If I made my character to be impulsive, then she ought to be; while I deliberate over an action, to make sure it's the "right" one (optimal, moral, whatever)...am I writing what I know is the "best" choice, like choosing a particular path in a video game to get a specific ending, or am I being true to the personality I created, especially when my deliberations are hung up on "the character 'wants' to make this choice but..."
Because I made that character, with these personality traits and backgrounds informing her life, and if I am writing (or roleplaying) true to that then she can seem to "make her own decisions." But it's really decisions I pre-made in deciding who she was to begin with, and sometimes we slip things in there without realizing--like, for instance, an enjoyment of snarky, emotionally complicated, disaster rogues that for my dear WoL daughter turned into a romantic interest when consciously, I had no intention of a pairing. But the choices I made in creating Aeryn, and how playing/writing her to react to the story based on those creation decisions, made that interest the correct choice for the character when confronted with it. Then it became a matter of convincing myself to just roll with it, and figuring out how it would work--mutual or one sided pining, everything fine, disastrous attempt(s), etc. Based again, on how I made my girl, and how I saw and wrote for That Damn Rogue.
Anyway, the step after that is learning to let go, trust your own character creation and writing, and lean into that. Let the character make those choices, good or bad (sometimes the "bad" choice leads to more/better story, besides). It is all our own choices and control as the writer/player, it's just when did we make those decisions: in the moment, or ahead of time when deciding who this character is to begin with--and realizing how we sometimes make some unconscious choices that we can lean into, rather than fight against.
-----
Now in a RP situation, one might have to bend or wrangle the character more to not entirely screw over the party/scene partners; a little mayhem and bad choices can be good, but not to the point of being a disruptive dick about it with the excuse of "that's just my character!" That either means the character has to (relatively quickly) grow and change as a person with their player considering how that will best work...or the character (or maybe the player) is not suited for that group/situation. Depends on if everyone's cool with it and having fun, or whether someone's trying to spotlight hog in a shared group setting, or just didn't make/bring a character appropriate for that group/situation/setting/etc.
RP characters should be made with a mind toward being somewhat team players, even if not outwardly. Otherwise the player isn't going to have too good a time trying to get into social situations--or especially at a closed game, if not taking their group and the GM's story into account. I saw it a lot at our LARP back in the day, and have seen it too at many open social events in MMOs; someone makes a mysterious loner who hangs at the fringes, doesn't have much reason to be there, and the player is bored or even upset no one's interacting with their uninvolved character (Edgy broody loners can be done, but I think often requires a little experience in knowing how to balance that with the needed social interaction aspect--and also already having some OOC connections that can be relied on to play off of and form connections with IC to draw those characters in).
So it again comes down to choices made early on, and how that will affect the "yes and..." situations once actually roleplaying them, and letting those early choices, conscious and subconscious lead the way, but with a little more deliberation and consideration for the other players.

I can’t believe the amount of notes this post has of people agreeing with it. I have no idea what The Locked Tomb is so I can’t speak on that, but regarding She-Ra, ever since the finale, I’m one of the people who’s been agreeing with the statement that OP is mocking here. To clarify, though, I’m not a puritanical anti at all- in fact, I’m all for less sanitized LGBT stories (yes, LGBT, not q**r), but I want them to still be well written, make actual sense narratively, and deliver a positive message for a target demographic of children, all which She-Ra failed at.
I read some of the notes and aside from the typical nonsense I’m used to seeing toxic She-Ra fans spew, there are people who reblogged this defending She-Ra while simultaneously admitting that they DIDN’T EVEN WATCH THE SHOW. Ofc they’re not gonna understand or interpret any of the criticism in good faith if they haven’t even watched the damn show. That’s the brainless mob mentality that’s to be expected on this site.
Anyway, as a writer who majored in animation, seeing posts and notes like this is so disheartening. I don’t have much hope for the entertainment industry (especially animation) or the LGBT community. Both have proven that their standards are lower than dirt and that they all have piss poor media literacy and critical thinking skills that lead them to harassing and hating on anyone who dares criticize the media that they blindly worship. It’s insulting as a writer and sets a bad precedent that professionals can just produce poorly written fan fiction with a budget that validates childish NPCs who eat it up as long as it caters to their sensibilities and is under the guise of progressivism for kids so it can be praised as “groundbreaking.” It makes me wanna steer clear of this industry entirely tbh.
I’m also familiar with SPOP but not The Locked Tomb, so I can speak on that. And we all know that I really can’t stand SPOP. I personally view it as one of those shows that was fine and even good at times until it self destructed in the last season and especially the finale with just an astonishing lack of self awareness.
The problem with Catradora, especially compared to the other ships in the show for the most part, is that’s it’s dysfunctional and toxic in a show that is targeted to children that otherwise pushes a lot of life lessons subtexually and textually. This also isn’t just a problem of the relationship itself, it extends to their actions towards other characters, such as the fact that there is no real consequence for Catra literally killing Glimmers mother out of complete selfishness. I think the whole show kind of suffers from sudden character amnesia about other characters past crimes. Because it happened with Hordak and Scorpia and Entrapta as well to varying degrees.
And I think the doublethink the show has about being Mature and Complex vs It’s A Children’s Show So You Can’t Criticize It extends to fan attitudes. And let’s be real, the Catradora kiss was not that revolutionary when SU and LOK already had their representation moments years before. In fact it’s weird and dysfunctional asf to have characters who were implied to have grown up as sisters and raised together (the literal reason why Catra was jealous and over dependent on Adora) just kiss and have all of their problems and past just basically vanish so that they can have a few cute shippy moments before the series finale.
All that aside I personally hate being pandered to and baited. I genuinely want to see stories about people who are LGBT and different races and with different belief systems and backgrounds, but just slapping a label onto a character or story doesn’t make it good, you still have to write good characters and story. You still have to work to make things cohesive and you have to understand that as a writer you will always face criticism. Especially when you market your work so hard as the next big thing.
And as an audience member, at the very least as a teen and onwards into adulthood, you should be capable of media literacy to the extent that you can watch a show about a couple toxic codependent weirdos and recognize that they were toxic codependent weirdos even if you mostly just had fun watching them get up to fucked up shenanigans.

EFFIE'S FAR CRY 5 PLAYLISTS. see below the cut for my descriptions/commentary!!
DIVINE PROVIDENCE. [ post / spotify ] DIVINE RETRIBUTION. [ post / spotify ] DEPUTY'S DARK DOO-WOP. [ post / spotify ]
To preface: I haven't finished the game yet, I could be missing a lot of songs that perfectly describe FC5 plot points. Anyway, here's some info on each playlist, the themes, why I chose the songs I did, etc.
DIVINE PROVIDENCE. "You're not here by accident or by chance."
The first one, the best of the best, all the country gothic you could hope for. I wanted it to capture the creepy vibes through the music and the lyrics, even in the shippy "interpret as you will" category. Another one of my goals was to have a lot of songs that dealt with destiny, fate, and never truly being able to escape what happened in Hope County. No matter what the Deputy does, even in canon-based fanfics, can they ever mentally escape the Seed Family? And why is the Deputy in Hope County in the first place? Divine Providence.
My Top 3 Songs (from this playlist):
Waters by Eliza Shaddad: I'm more of a Joseph x Deputy shipper but this has converted me to a John x Deputy shipper. You know exactly what cut scene I'm thinking about with this song and the lyrics "as the water begins / to slide up my skin / and I'm fighting giving in to you".
I Will Never Die by Delta Rae: you could make this about Deputy x Seed sibling or (however you may ship it, platonic or not) Seed x Seed. It also hammers home my fave theme of never being able to escape the situation, even if the other person dies. You're always going to be haunted by them and by their actions and by what took place in Hope County. It's the love and the PTSD, baby!
For What It's Worth by Trills: this one is a cover and I included the 60s original in my other playlist. My favorite lyrics are "there's battle lines being drawn / and nobody's right if everybody's wrong" along with the stanza that starts "paranoia strikes deep". The citizens fear being overrun and kidnapped by the Peggies, just like the Peggies probably (sorta) fear being overrun by the citizens of the county.
DIVINE RETRIBUTION. "If violence is the only language you choose to speak, then I'll speak your language."
This playlist is a classic rock playlist and has a few repeats from the above playlist and from the game itself. Another caveat is that not all of the songs are "rock", some are rock-adjacent. Either way, the songs wouldn't exist without the rock genre and all the precursors that led to the creation of a beautiful, beautiful genre.
A lot of the songs comment on real events and/or deal with religious themes. For What It's Worth was a protest song of the 60s and Gimme Shelter comments on the brutalities of war. Sunday, Bloody Sunday reflects the events of the Troubles and the violence committed in the name of God. All Along the Watchtower has more subtle Christian tones (like with a lot of Bob Dylan songs, it can be analyzed in a million different ways). Personal Jesus is sexy and I think the same could be said about Missionary Man, even though that one is more about manipulation.
My Top 3 Songs:
A Horse With No Name by America: you're probably wondering why I included it -- well just listen to it, it's weird! It's one of those songs that could've been included in the last, Bliss-inspired category of nonsensical songs. I like how it focuses on names and lack of names.
Burning Down the House by the Talking Heads: another nonsensical song with lyrics that make sense in this context. The Deputy is an "ordinary guy / burning down the house". And at some point, someone has definitely told them "watch out, you might get what you're after".
Murder by Numbers by the Police: I have a very mixed relationship with this band because I don't like Sting's voice but I love the songs. That being said, this song and Every Breath You Take are absolute gold. "Because murder is like anything you take to / It's a habit-forming need for more and more".
THE DEPUTY'S DARK DOO-WOP. "I spent my entire life looking for more things to say 'yes' to."
The overarching theme of this playlist is that the Deputy and the Seed Family are one and the same. They use violence as a means to an end, as a means to "save" people, though their goals are totally different. Whether or not they come to agree on how to "save" people will define their relationship. They could be enemies to lovers, enemies and always enemies, or the classic "you're my enemy and HELL NO, your love is not reciprocated".
Again, I wanted to include a lot of Christian themes and that's reflected in Personal Jesus, Big God, Devil's Backbone, and Apocalyptic. Included in that list is Devil's Resting Place which includes the lyrics "If you must drink of me, take of me what you please ... / ... I've been with the devil in the devil's resting place". It plays into my love of kidnapping tropes and all that comes with it.
My Top 3 Songs:
Ritual by Ellie Goulding: this one also plays into the religious themes and, to me, suggests enemies to lovers. The Deputy has to go through the rituals before becoming a member of the Family. "It's far too late to be rescued" and "the ritual, we lose it all" makes it seem as though they don't want it to happen. Then they say "But I'm ready now, but I’m ready now" and repeat "It’s a ritual, and I know you feel it", as if convincing themself the other person feels it too.
No One Knows but Me by Torii Wolf: I feel like this one would be from one of the Seed fam's POV, maybe in a delusional way thinking the Deputy loves them and is willing to be a part of the family. The lyrics "They don't know you like I do / no one knows but me" feel (un)intentionally creepy, especially applied to the Seeds who have no idea what the Deputy was like before they got involved in this shit. They don't know their likes, dislikes, hobbies, family history.
Dark Doo Wop by MS MR: Here's where the title comes from! A song about a couple facing the end of the world! "As long as we're going down / Baby, you should stick around ... / ... Baby if you could, I know you would hatch a plan / That's my, that's my man" The lyrics speak for themselves.

asking something particularly shippy because sephgen :P
If in a far away near impossible universe, sephiroth and genesis actually get their shit together and talk about their feelings for another, who would break the silence and how would it go?
(cc events can happen or it can be an au where nothing happens, no one dies and everything is good)
CC AU where their little training room incident never happens!
Genesis is the first to say anything. It happens over a petty, stupid argument over the dumbest stuff. And Genesis just kinda word-vomits everything out at once. This, of course, horrifies him and he IMMEDIATELY regrets it. Meanwhile, Sephiroth looks as if he's undergoing some mental space travel because he's completely spaced tf out.
So after that nonsense they end up avoiding each other for days. So embarrassing. When the three of them are together, Angeal is SUPER weirded out because like...they're not fighting??? Or arguing??? Or really anything at all.
He takes Genesis aside and asks him what tf did he DO because he's never seen Seph so out of it. Genesis pretends to have no idea what he's talking about. Stfu Angeal, mind your own business! But eventually, the guilt catches up to him.
He pulls Sephiroth aside a bit later and engages in a patented Rhapsodos-Rarity--APOLOGIZING! Sephiroth only shakes his head and says its fine. Really. No big deal. He's flattered he feels that way. Maybe more than that. Ish. Maybe...
Anyway, in time, Genesis very quickly wishes up to the fact that Sephiroth has kind of been lowkey extremely attracted to him for a while now, in his own offhand noncommunicative way.
I'd imagine it's kind of semi unhealthy for a bit where it's purely physical for a while. They're still extremely messed up people and would probably hurt each other a thousand times over before anything sticks. It's an extremely passionate, but simultaneously bewildering affair in which both parties absolutely suck at giving and taking. And are constantly pissing each other off.
Over time though, it smooths out. And they finally begin to see that maybe they were being stupid about everything. They still like to compete but they've both calmed down. And find time to actually express genuine affection behind closed doors. Sephiroth becomes slightly more relaxed at the idea of accepting that he wants Genesis and that Genesis makes him happy. Genesis gets to be pampered and cherished and soaks up the attention with relish. They become touchingly devoted to each other, while still teasing and trading barbs. They'd probably like to be openly sappier with each other, but they have a public reputation to maintain.
The only real obstacle is Shinra, who would definitely not like the idea that both of their top soldiers are .... entangled with each other.

I like following this blog and I don't remember why-
Anyway!
Sometimes i see your fandom dissertations and really like reading what is Going On™. And sometimes giggling at anons.
But the thing i would love to convey is that i don't know a lot of shippy stuff, so sometimes its like reading scifi novels where you go 'this all makes sense in context I don't have'
Just thought id let you know 😂✨✨✨ and hope have a good day/night
Hey man, context is what it's about, and admitting you lack all context automatically puts you ahead of 99% of this place. I'm happy to explain context whenever it doesn't come loaded with a bunch of people's inserted suppositions from LACK of context. So feel free to ask.
Honestly? Most shipping fandom confuses me too. Or annoys me. Even within what shipping fandom would ascribe "my own lane" I took serious heat trying to speak up for the authors, often antagonized by this same group of multishippers and con acolytes.
So half the time I go "dafuq?" about shipping nonsense until someone explains it to me too.
If it clears anything up, before I tripped on the market testing then went slipsiding across the ice rink of talking to the authors, I didn't even enter this fandom as a real shipper, as much as an arms length, You're Not Crazy in general. I just didn't ever think it was going anywhere. And then I met a true madlad named Berens. And I got over my assumptions and started listening.
Fandom's just 5 years behind on that, and they're trying to drown these real world truths and real world people out of the conversation in name of relativistic ship wars and. I'm just waiting for when it clicks that it's not gonna work.

heyyyy, what's your opinion on shippers? i wanna be polite and avoid bothering anyone :)
Everyone's welcome n safe here! I'm not a hermit specific blog, not even hermit centric, but anything I post is free to go ham on :)
Imma be real: I kinda ship, but also mostly don't give two shits. It's fuckin Minecraft, dude. They're just vibin. Mostly I'm here for the aestheticism and bad jokes. I have Opinions TM on shit and enjoy talking about ships or just dynamics in general, but like. Even if I seem to hold a strong opinion on something platonic or other it's just cause I'm mouthy lol you can hold the exact opposite opinion on whatever and it's cool
I'll always try to tag appropriately n use #hermitship, and whenever I'm unsure on the original intent I do try to trawl the creators blog to make sure I don't make em uncomfortable/tag platonic what was meant as ship. Mostly I'm reblogs, but if/when I post my own shit it'll still be tagged as such.
If you don't wanna see my content anymore cause of this, that's okay, DM me and because Tumblrs block feature is bullshit and you'd still see it otherwise I'll block you, no harm done :)

Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I said, @hilichurlrights, you can really tell how ignorant such people are of the composition of fanfic fandom, never mind the rest of the world.
I agree it makes sense...
I just think it makes people fucking morons and they should learn better.
This response is an example of the very thing the original ask was bitching about and with good reason!
AO3 and tumblr are full of m/m shipping. They are equally full of useful idiots doing the work of TERFs and homophobes by accident. That’s where this nonesense about “fetishizing” leads: to trying to force people to avoid m/m content.
(Funny story: I know a 20-something who proudly told me she only has het ships because she knows it would be fetishizing for her to have any m/m ships. Good job, wankers, you sure made fandom more progressive by getting rid of the queer shit.)
It’s very telling that the constant refrain is that WOC are sidelined for two white men, as though WOC aren’t “sidelined” in favor of white het in spaces with more het shipping. I’m not even convinced that sidelining is a good way to look at people spending hobby time on X vs. Y anyway, but it’s definitely not a good way to look at this specific pattern because shippy fic is romance. Women are “sidelined” in m/m because it’s m/m. All of the non-leads, regardless of gender or orientation, are always “sidelined” in romance novels. That’s what the genre is.
This is the kind of insidious rhetoric that the bigots sneak into our spaces to be absorbed and repeated by unwitting progressives.
Do you not get that spreading this nonsense is demanding that people like heterosexual fiction and and demanding that they prioritize hetereosexual fiction as more progressive? Or are you pitting f/f with WOC against white m/m? The examples I can think of where this comes up tend to be about shipping some very popular white guy lead with either the WOC or the white dude from his canon.
Plenty of people don’t read fic about women because they don’t identify with women or because they have trauma or because the media industries and genres they’re into don’t depict women in ways that inspire them. There are so many valid reasons including the very obvious one of other people’s hobby time is not yours to command.
The word ‘fetishizing’ itself is tremendously ambiguous in this context too. This isn’t some universal evil we all agree is real or all agree on a definition for.
Fic is not primarily operating in the realistic family drama space where “good representation” seems to hang out. It’s more likely to be romance novels or crime procedurals in terms of its genre elements. Some of it is erotica. Much of what I see called out as “fetishizing” is actually just rape fantasy--a normal and healthy thing everyone has known was fine since the 70s unless you are, once again, a conservative religious asshat or a radfem. Or, worse yet, plenty of it is just “Women aren’t allowed to write about men” with a whole pile of misgendering, mislabeling of orientation, and demands for people’s RL info.
Writing a female Asian character as some ninja prostitute stereotype is fetishizing.
Being horny for m/m is not. Not even if you’re a cis woman. Not even if you like kink.
Being horny is not a bad thing.
Every time you uncritically call people’s amateur m/m art “sus”, you’re helping out the bigots.

2020 End of Year Post - kdrama edition
You can find my 2020 cdrama post here: dangermousie.tumblr.com/post/638449659546845184/2020-end-of-year-post-cdrama-edition
This is only going to cover kdramas that aired in 2020; if it originally aired another year, it’s not on this list.
It’s been a pretty lackluster kdrama year. There are probably only 5 kdramas I truly loved and only three of them I was really obsessed over. Better luck in 2021!
DRAMAS WATCHED
(In order of liking from least to most as opposed to pure quality; I am including if I’ve seen enough to make up my mind; yes I realize that’s inaccurate, but that’s my list)
42 Born Again - so bad, so incoherent, so insane, I have no idea why the leads signed up for it (and unlike some of the other watchers, I think it was awful from the very start.) There is literally nothing about this drama that makes sense.
41 Love with Flaws - a bunch of people who should be tried under the Geneva Convention.
40 Sweet Munchies - Jung Il Woo proves his inability to pick a functional script.
39 Meow the Secret Boy - if you ever wanted to bang a cat, this drama is for you. Not being a furry, however...
38 Do Do Sol Sol La Sol - I lost braincells just typing out this title.
37 When I Was the Most Beautiful - the only way it’s not the dumbest, most pointless melo of 2020 is because Born Again considerately came out the same year.
36 Woman of 9.9 Billion - if you want to watch an artsy French movie about miserable people, but only badly made, boy do I have a drama for you.
35 Lies after Lies - screams after screams.
34 Backstreet Rookie - people were up in arms about various problematic plots. I am a survivor of many plots much more problematic but even I couldn’t survive how utterly boring and annoying this drama was and how utterly irritating the leads were. This has taken Ji Chang Wook off my top favorites into “should I even check his latest Lovestruck in the City? Probably not” territory almost single-handedly (Melt Me helped, to be fair.)
33 Men Are Men - boring is boring.
32 Dinner Mate - two beautiful boring people eat out a lot.
31 Was It Love - no it wasn’t.
30 Alice - Joo Won in the shower can make up for a multitude of sins but not plot nonsense of such magnitude. When you find yourself thinking it would be better if he hooked up with the alternate universe version of his mother because at least then something entertaining would happen, you know it’s bad.
29 More than Friends - started out OK, then made me hate basically everyone and kept going.
28 Start-Up - honestly, it’s probably more decent than its place here, but the toxic and batshit fandom for it (the worst this year) made me feel like breaking out in hives any time it’s even mentioned.
27 The Spies who Loved Me - how to take a good cast and waste it.
26 Private Lives - it was good but it never took off with its concept and spent more time on the incoherent plot than the OTP which was its one strength. It’s a decent drama but coming after Heartless City and My Beautiful Bride from the same writer, it’s a disappointment.
25 Record of Youth - as high as it is due to Park Bo Gum hard carrying this entire awful drama on his shoulders and doing it so well I finished it. Alas, while he is in one drama (and that drama is great), the rest of the characters and the entirety of the script are a pointless useless mess.
24 Do You Like Brahms - excellent first third, mediocre middle, and terrible last third. I don’t know what musical term applies to this? Diminuendo, I think.
23 I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice - nice and mellow but nothing much happens.
22 Forest - mainly for Park Hae Jin’s excellent and frequently naked bod.
21 The Ballot - I didn’t love it as much as everyone did but it was well-made.
20 Hyena - more romance and less weird law stuff would make it better.
19 365 Repeat the Year - surprisingly solid.
18 The Game Towards Zero - see 365.
17 When My Love Blooms - very old fashioned, very lovely.
16 Chocolate - also very old fashioned and very lovely but also with Yoon Kye Sang performing medical procedures bleeding and shirtless. MMM.
15 (tie) Secret Royal Inspector - a fun if run of the mill sageuk.
15 Find Me In Your Memory - best melo this year.
14 Mystic Pop Up Bar - surprisingly good even though I wasn’t planning to check it out.
13 Where Your Eyes Linger - came out of nowhere but was tender and hopeful and lovely.
12 Itaewon Class - Park Seo Joon hard carries a drama that is already excellent. Love it.
11 Psychopath Diary - Yoon Shi Yoon is such a treat in a hilarious, cynical, dark comedy.
10 Kairos - more like ouroboros.
9 Queen Love and War - in a year where sageuks are very rare, this was solid and surprisingly moving and shippy.
8 The King Eternal Monarch - people didn’t like it but I did. It’s no masterpiece and both the leads and the writers have better dramas, but it was a lovely romantic fairy tale for me.
7 Mr. Queen - sharp, hilarious, and some of my favorite actors.
6 Psycho But It’s OK - healing, sharp cinematography and even sharper chemistry.
5 Crash Landing on You - the last ep pissed me off so much this drama is dead to me but I loved it so much until then I can’t place it lower in good conscience.
4 Train - who knew I would go this hard for an OCN drama or that OCN would do romance so well? But this time-travel mystery romance is just incredible and I shipped the OTP and rooted for the characters and loved every last bit of it.
3 Run On - this is the drama Record of Youth wanted to be but failed. Smart and lived in, you feel like you are peeking at real people, but also even four episodes in, I am so invested in the main characters separately and together, and care for them so much, it’s a little frightening.
1 (tie) Tale of the Nine Tailed - my perfect fantasy romance. I liked it better than Goblin, yeah I said it.
1 Flower of Evil - all the tropes I love in one incredible package. I would rewatch episodes waiting for new ones trying to puzzle the story and to stay withdrawal but it works just as well on rewatch. Lee Jun Ki brings his trademark tortured intensity and for once, both his leading lady and his script back him up and are worthy of that. It’s perfect.
FAVORITE DRAMA
It’s a tie between Tale of the Nine Tailed and Flower of Evil but if I had to pick just one, FoE, because it had me seriously obsessed and guessing about the protagonist and gave me the narrative tropes I love so much and an OTP that statisfied all my hurt/comfort kinks and then some.
WORST DRAMA
Born Again - honestly, this is so bonkers it almost becomes good but alas...
FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER
Do Hyun Soo/Baek Hee Sung, Flower of Evil - he is so messed up, so on edge, so traumatized. Yet capable of so much warmth and caring even as he himself doesn’t realize his humanity. FoE is basically a story of a man pushed and punished by the world for his entire life who, because of one woman, finds a safe place and peace and slowly comes to life without realizing it, and watching his desperation to keep this small bit of normalcy is so heartbreaking and exciting all at once. Plus, you start the drama thinking he’s a psychopathic serial killer and end it (if you are me) thinking he must be protected at all costs and if anyone even looks at him wrong they must suffer, and that’s quite a change!
FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER
Nam Ji Ah, Tale of the Nine Tailed - she is so funny and tough and smart and loving and amazing that I will totally buy that a literal demi-god will do anything and everything for her and love her for literal eternity.
NEEDS TO BE MURDERED
Dad in Record of Youth - yes in a year with serial killers and supernatural demons, I picked a normal character from a mediocre drama. It’s his everyday awfulness to his family that hits so hard and I am sad he never got his comeuppance.
FAVORITE SHIP
Ji Ah x Yeon - a fearless reporter and an immortal demi-god who’s been hoping for his human beloved to reincarnate. A really rare set-up where the OTP is equally ride or die, so compatible and completely BAMF. I got why he waited for her for that long and then fell in love with her all over again. Perfection.
Runner up: Flower of Evil - he is so messed up he literally does not believe he is capable of love or empathy, but he falls in love with her anyway and so utterly she permeates his entire life. She is tough as nails and only believes what she sees and is the sole person who believes in him against the world. She loves him but he needs her. She needs him but he loves her. They are amazing.
FAVORITE SECONDARY OTP
Seo Dan x Gu Seung Jun, Crash Landing on You, North Korean x Conman were so good I shipped them harder than the main OTP and the end of that storyline pissed me off so much I dumped the drama and didn’t finish it for months (and it’s still dead to me.)
NOTP
Record of Youth - it started out and they didn’t have much chemistry but the dialogues were interesting and I thought the chemistry would grow. It didn’t and deteriorated, their dialogues became boring and relationship had zero development (about as much as the supposed female lead.) I think we were supposed to feel bad they broke up and they were going for a bittersweet open ending, instead I found myself happy about the break up of two incompatible, chemistry-less people and hoping for the love of God they never get back together.
FAVORITE SCENE
Yeon and the bridge of knives, Tale of the Nine Tailed - Yeon choosing to undergo the creeptastic bridge of knives for a chance to save Ji Ah, who at that point he is not aware is the reincarnation of his Joseon love because, as he says, he doesn’t care if she is or isn’t, it just would be more horrible to have her die than to undergo the horrific torture he is undergoing, and then the sequence with his catching her, her weeping over him and the fact that she is the original Joseon girl revealed and all the bandaging and his watching her sleep and all that loveliness, is everything for yours truly.
Runner up: Hyun Soo having that break-down at the cliff at the end of ep 15 of Flower of Evil as Ji Won desperately tries to convince him she is alive and he finally stumbles to her.
Runner runner up (it’s my list, I will do what I want): Do Won preparing to blow his brains out to give a chance to Seo Kyung to live in Train.
BIGGEST CRUSH
Seon-Gyeom, Run On. Yeah, I know. Im Siwan is tiny, delicate featured and has a runner’s build, none of which are things that normally appeal to me. But his character is so odd, so honest, so unflinching in pursuing what he thinks is right, so incapable of self-pity despite plenty of reasons for it, and so ridiculously attractive when he smiles, I don’t even care.
BEST SCENE STEALER CHARACTER
Kim Bum, TotNT - I started out being annoyed by him and ended up looking forward to his scenes and being distraught by his ending.
NEEDS A SEQUEL
Honestly, none. I was fine with all the endings. I wouldn’t mind seeing post-end life of Tale of the Nine Tailed characters or the OTP settling into their literal new world in Train, but I am good.
TROPE THAT NEEDS TO DIE
Time jump that solves all the problems off screen or alternatively years pass and everyone is frozen - something that kdramas need to learn and need to learn badly. See Record of Youth, Brahms and Start Up.
FAVORITE TROPE WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF
Men who are ride or die for their OTP - this was a great year for this - the male leads of four of my five dramas were beyond anything on that scale (only exception is Run On because it’s still too early to tell there.) Yes PLEASE.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
This was a banner year for that what with Start Up, Do You Like Brahms, Record of Youth, and Private Lives all starting out well and nosediving off the cliff but winner is Crash Landing on You. I loved it so much for bulk of its run but the last episode pissed me off so much I deleted all my files and called it a day.
BIGGEST GOOD SURPRISE
Flower of Evil - I had no expectations of this drama and wasn’t even planning on watching it despite liking both the lead actors because yet another “look at evil serial killer be evil” drama with no romance was not my thing. Luckily someone convinced me there might be some romance and I peeked curiously. Honestly, their promo campaign was the most misleading and dumbest thing ever.
Runner up Psycho but it’s OK - I have never liked Kim Soo Hyun in anything before and the drama premise seemed WTF but it was shockingly good and KSH totally blew me away.
Hardest Working Lead
Yoon Shi Yoon - he starred in two (!!!) dramas in 2020 playing three characters and not only were both these dramas awesome in a lackluster year, but if it wasn’t for the fact that I knew it was the same actor and the fact that the characters shared a face, I would have never believed that they were played by the same actor. So good!
2020 DRAMAS I HAVEN’T SEEN THAT I MOST WANT TO WATCH
None. Covid Year gave me PLENTY of time
BEST NON-2020 DRAMA I’VE WATCHED IN 2020
My Beautiful Bride and Deserving of the Name - I was obsessed with both of them and honestly, they were much better than the bulk of 2020 kdramas I watched.
MOST ANTICIPATED IN 2021
The Moon That Rises in the Day, Hong Chun Gi, Joseon Exorcist, Island,  Frightening Cohabitation, Snowdrop.

Everyone knows about Aeryn being into That Damn Rogue, but are any of your other ladies have someone they're sweet on?
C’oretta crushes on various guys depending on the week. She had a flirtation of some kind with G’raha back during the original Crystal Tower investigation, but since he got back from the First she’s wary and he’s obviously not interested anyway. C’oretta also had a brief FWB thing with Sidurgu that weirds Aeryn out immensely (which only makes it funnier to both C’oretta and Sid). Probably a few others; C’oretta’s young and horny and not interested in settling in with anyone, so no romance at this point, just fun now and then.
Iyna had a stress-relief/FWB thing with Valdeaulin during the Werlyt mess, cuz goodness if that man didn’t need to let go of some tension. They initially bonded over grousing about Gaius and then went into backstories about how the Empire screwed over each of them, and neither were interested in complicating things with emotions, but each in need of some mature understanding and sympathy. Iyna also has a bit of a crush on General Fran. Nothing romantic—Iyna’s too far on the Aro scale for that—but she’s had a few salacious fantasies she will never act on due to her stronger respect for and gratitude to Fran.
For Dark Autumn, depends on universe. She had a WoW-crossover RP story with @barnaby-wyznfarr’s older Draenei incarnation (look, giant paladin turned woodland farmer, it’s simple science; there’s also art for them by Barnaby’s player). There’s also been some flirting with Stalwart Oak ( @alys-hawke ) but I tend to not RP really anymore (in addition to just playtime sync ups) so it remains in vague “he has a crush” status. Mainline Ficverse, Dark hasn’t pinged onto any NPCs. Rasho’s kinda good looking, but that was more of a “nice aesthetics” kinda way than any sort of actual interest.
If it happens, it happens, but I’m happy to leave the shippy nonsense to Aeryn. Who it wasn’t supposed to happen with at all. Damn Rogue.

More despair!kimblee au/headcannons?
Gladly!! here's some post-promised day angst garbage
1. Okay, so. despair!kimblee is, quite literally, hopeless. despair = no hope. He's just kind of floating along in life, seeing where he goes, because what else is he going to do. He's sort of lazy and unmotivated--he's just trying to see Father's nonsense through, but he really has no agenda of his own, because it seems meaningless to him. In acting as a catalyst for Father's plans though, it's sort of like the last dredges of his humanity are clinging to a bit of hope. Maybe he can't change anything on his own, but maybe, by seeing someone else's vision through until the end, he'd find is place in the story. All the unknowns and chaos of the pre-promised day chaos made him feel a little alive in a way he hasn't felt in a long time. it felt a little like hope. Life was so stagnant before, nothing really changed and it was all foreseeable--his soul wasn't at risk, as it were.
2. Of course, after the promised day, uhh. there goes the thrilling plot. Provided he survives (unlike the rest of the homunculi), he is dead in the water again. Life goes on as usual, a life with no foreseeable end. Cue a bunch of ~character development~. He's gotta learn how to deal with a normal life as something completely abnormal, at his core. Here you can insert various shippy stuff about how his s/o or w/ever gives him hope again, yadda yadda. If he does get into some sort of partnership with someone, he's super distant (go figure) but at the same time weirdly possessive/clingy? He'll act like he doesn't even know or like them half the time but one day they're in a life-threatening situation, kimblee finds out, and blood is shed. That is, if they didn't have it under control to begin with, because like 100% of the people that I personally ship him with could definitely handle it on their own. Anyway, after turning someone inside out for harming his person, he goes back to being all distant, and it makes no damn sense to anyone involved, including him.
Or, he doesn't form any significant connections with anyone, and festers in his own little swamp of misery and isolation and everyone watching is absolutely horrified but does not want to intervene lest they lose a limb or something.
3. One thing you can DEFINITELY slap in here is fucking awkward bonding time between him and all the people he fucked over during pre-promised day days. Bonus points if they had no idea he was a homunculus before then:
"hey kimblee, what is your problem? you were literally just out there causing problems on purpose but for no clear reason? and now you're just like.. vibing with the rest of us don't you hate us?"
"what no, I just am devoid of all hope and the purpose that gives you, I was at a loss then and I'm at a loss now (: that was fun while it lasted but life has no meaning"
and it explains a lot, honestly. They still don't really like him, at all, but they understand him incrementally more.
4. Honestly I like to think he kinda goes off the rails after the PD and like, becomes a high-end assassin or something, idk. this is really just me trying to let him murder some more Basically just causing more problems on purpose for money because considering his resume, that's the only thing on it. narrow skillset in life for that man. Especially because this can cue MORE awkward encounters with people because they're like "damn dude you seem like you're well off financially, HOW." and he gets super shifty about it and while he never actually says anything, eventually the funds of indeterminate origin, long random disappearances (sometimes overseas), excessive amounts of weaponry, and general murdery vibes add up. Nobody really says anything, except for Mustang, who tries to play some holier-than-thou approach. he should know better though. Plus Kimblee's immortal so it's pretty low-risk for him
He could also rejoin the military somehow but I'd think he would probably be 100% done with their shit, after how much the military purposefully fucked him over for their own gain previously.
5. Maybe... his weird love of death and dying and killing people is related to his immortality. He's immortal, but doesn't really want to be, because a hopeless eternity doesn't sound pleasant. But maybe by surrounding himself with other people's endings and crushed hopes, he'd find... something worthwhile, either inside himself or other people.
I'll add onto this as I think of more, hope you like these!

Guardian eps 31-40... I knew what was coming and still shed tears lol
Tumblr media
So... Yeah, that happened. At the start of these last ten eps, ShenWei was being kept as a hostage (chained up to a pillar and everything, so kinky) by his brother and Yunlan had to deal with a bunch of craziness and somehow ended up being a person of interest/a fugitive and there was even some sort of car chase in there. Yunlan ended up rescuing his boyfriend and at least him and ShenWei had some happy shippy moments before doom fell upon them.
I'll be honest and say I could, more or less, follow the plot of the drama for at least the first half, but on this last quarter everything was bananas borderline ridiculous for me. I was kinda disappointed that Yunlan wasn't really Kunlun's reincarnation while in the novel he is and the way they explained the “I waited 10000 years for you” hmmmmmm but I guess that fell under censorship territory? Which makes me confused, because they did allow the time travel thing and I thought that was banned as well? I shouldn't think too hard about this lol not because of the nonsense of the story but because censors are so often inconsistent and an enigma, basically. Their spectrum is wide and mysterious, like a black box.
The acting
And to be honest I finished this for BaiYu and ZhuYilong because well, God knows I wanted to give up a few times but whenever those two were on screen, together, I'd go like "oh damn, they're both hot af and so freaking talented and I really cannot look away from this mess. I owe it to them" and so, that was exactly what I did. It wasn't that big of a sacrifice to be honest (the masters of sacrifices were our two leading men 💔😭) but damn, what do you call it when you know something bad is gonna happen that's gonna make you suffer and still go through with it, enjoying every moment? Because that's what I had from the start hahahaha
Anyway, the most important bit for me was the romance. I can't even be funny or play coy anymore and pretend to call it a bromance, after how blatantly obvious it was demonstrated that it wasn't that, AT ALL, to the last freaking second of the drama! Yeah! That last scene?? Ummhm excuse me your honor of censorship, these men are in love and so gay for each other! You could see it in their eyes, you could feel it in the tension between them and it could be read between the lines (without much effort) in their last words to one another! And it squeezed my heart with their angstiness and heartbreak. The actors even said that they did read the novel and I mean, no wonder because those longing looks and all that flirtiness couldn’t have come from them just from reading the script because it wasn’t that good
That ending
I have no idea why the drama had such a bittersweet ending (I chose to call it that because they made a promise to meet again) when the novel definitely didn’t have that feel, at all. The ending of the novel gave a feel of hope, a new beginning, good prevailing over bad, love conquers all etc and Yunlan regained all his memories and powers as Kunlun!! How epic is that?. And the extras? It’s basically just confirming all that along with HEA for OTP. It was *chef’s kiss*
(And like some sort of twsited cosmic joke lol I finished Guardian on the same day Cherry magic ended and wow it's not easy to see one OTP get their sweet happily ever after, while your other OTP it's given death and tears, a truly memorable Christmas Eve for me lmao)
I don’t recommend it... except I do lol
When it comes to recommending this drama, I think I wouldn't do it BUT I'd definitely recommend watching BaiYu and ZhuYilong acting alongside each other lol I know it sounds like the same thing, but it isn't. You could ff all of the things that don't have the two and it would be a joyful watch without missing anything important from the lol “story”. Now, I don't think it's always a good idea to watch a drama merely for the main couple and their chemistry but if somehow that can carry you through the whole thing, I guess it's a worthy ride. In my case, it was. And this drama has been my second time doing that haha
So, not a waste of my time and I mean I'm a fan of both actors now and I'm ready to check out some more projects of them (especially BaiYu's, because holy cow, I don't know what is it about him but my hormones go crazy when I see him on my screen 🙈😍)
Tumblr media
Anyway, thanks Guardian, for breaking my heart, thanks for that CRAZY chemistry, the fun dynamic between the leads and those longing looks... Well, basically, thanks for putting Zhu Yilong and BaiYu in the same drama🤣. It was a delight. Also, I really really liked the novel.

subcagecorp intros (Just in case, but these are fake and only for the purpose of fun shippy nonsense)

Johnny: Someone call the fire department, I spot a hottie. Hanzo, coy: Do not think that you're flirting will get you out of practice. Johnny: As if I would back out of you wrestling me to the ground!
Hanzo: Are you ready for this? Johnny: Well it's not Turkish oil wrestling, but we'll make due. Hanzo, amused: I suppose we will, dearest.
Hanzo: Are you ready for practice? Johnny: It'd be better with K-Baby, but yeah Hot Sauce! Hanzo, chuckling: He can kiss your wounds after.
Johnny: Well aren't you a tall, cold drink of ice water? Kuai Liang, chuckling: Do you say the same to Hanzo? Johnny: I have specific pick-up lines for the boos
Johnny: If I get my lips stuck to you, it's not because you're a cryomancer. Kuai Liang, chuckling: You and your flirting. Johnny: Got a smile!
Kuai Liang: Are you ready to train? Johnny: For you baby? Always. Kuai Liang, amused: We shall see, treasure.
Kuai Liang: Approaching me to train without Hanzo? Johnny, coy: I mean, we can got get him... Kuai Liang, amused: In a moment, let us see where YOU are.
Hanzo: Are you ready to face me, dearest? Kuai Liang: Of course, show me you skills, my treasure. Hanzo: Be ready for me, Kuai Liang.

Kuai Liang: There you are, my dearest one. Hanzo, fondly: One of them, anyway. Kuai Liang, fondly: One of two dear and near to my heart.
