maybe a weird question, but does the show that your backgrounds appear in ever make you feel differently about your work? like as an artist im sure youre pretty much always proud of the finished product but if the show that uses them is one you dont like does it ever.. make you feel weird?? or is it still just like "hey, i did that!"

nah..Not any weirder than posting art in general feels LOL. the thing is, liking a tv show as entertainment is different from liking it as a workplace which is also different from liking it as idk… an art object to put in my portfolio. I’m not going to pretend there isn’t overlap there like if I had to kind of draw it out (in more ways than one haha)...

So theres a lot of push and pull between factors. Its VERY common for artists to have shows they enjoyed working on that they wouldn’t personally enjoy watching and vice versa. And for me personally? I’m a glass half full kind of guy so even amongst mixed feelings I tend to focus on the good parts and I've liked almost every show I've worked on, come out feeling pretty good about my work almost all the time. 

I’m lucky though. I’ve never had to stay at a job with truly heinous working conditions. I’ve always had the privilege of enough resources (savings, parents house to fall back on, etc) to quit and find something new which is something not all people have. 

And I guess I would feel weird/bad about my work if it turned out to be used for like… a horrendous hate crime or something? Like if god forbid I ended up somehow…presumably accidentally?? working on the 21st century’s version of Birth of a Nation???? But (knock on wood) I like to think the chances of that in animation are pretty slim LOL or at the very least I'd be able to see the red flags ahead of time and get out of there…. one of the good/lame things about mass media is that it’s supremely moderate like it can’t be transgressive or radical (on either end of the political spectrum) or else it risks losing profit. And on top of that, animation is one of the least spontaneous storytelling mediums. just by nature of how much coordination and planning that has to be done ahead of time for something as simple as moving a character across the screen. Backgrounds in particular are relatively middle-late in the animation pipeline. every show runs a little differently but normally by the time we're working on bgs the story, boards, and characters are like... 70-90% locked in? So it’s pretty rare to be working on a show only to later be surprised by whats on screen when it airs.

I do know that south park turns on a dime and makes episodes slapdash in like one week but uh I like to think they're the exception not the rule LOL. most western animation will take about a year per ep from outline to final export.

anyways thanks for sending a thoughtful ask as opposed to something patronizing or obnoxiously leading like "im so sorry you had to work on such a shitty show" which ive been getting a bit of lately.

Baroque scrollwork and filigree are really pretty! They’re a pain tho idk how I find a way to do them so often lmao I also like whenever I get to do victorian aesthetics or alice in wonderland elements too!

Hmm going back to the scrollwork-esque stuff, idk if I’m necessarily good at it and it’s not that I dislike doing it, but it’s more that every time I do, it I’m like “why’d I choose to draw this again, it’s HARD to come up with” but I’m usually proud of how it comes out! Like these

17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what

I usually make tea whenever I draw or play games but I get so focused on what I’m doing that I ALWAYS forget to drink it. I will literally take one sip right before I dive into my work and then not touch it at all until MUCH later LOL that’s why I had to get myself one of those bottles that keeps your drink warm for like 12 hrs. I still will absolutely forget it but at least it’s still lukewarm by the time I remember :’)

18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken

Hmmm I mainly do digital art and thankfully I don’t break much of that (except some worn down pen nibs and a horribly frayed wire on my first drawing tablet), but I totally decimated one of my posable figma models bc I tried to bend the limbs too far and they snapped off...she lost an arm and both legs.........

19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)

LOL NOTHING MAYBE??? Well in bgs I think the nature element I’m best at drawing is probably clouds.....still so proud of these ones, I love doing the airplane line (?) through the sky haha....also only did this once in the vilorel hangout doodle page but I enjoyed drawing the makeup products!

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

Mmm maybe hands? i still find them super hard to draw too, but I do like drawing graceful hands!! Will most definitely find an excuse to hide them if I can tho :’)

S5 Ep 39 Part 2: Baby Pharaoh

My memory is something like tossed coleslaw at the moment with my on-and-off again long covid fatigue, but I’m pretty sure last we left off, Yugi and co were looking for Pharaoh, who as I’ve mentioned several times now, has fallen down a hole and can’t get up.

Alongside the Nile they have stumbled into Mana (man I hope that’s her name, it’s been so long since I’ve done a regular update, if her name is like Arkansas or whatever, I will not know, that’s just where we are. Bro who fact checks and spell check’s this blog was like “I dunno, sounds right? I’m not looking it up.”)

Whatever her name is, Mana is living her best life on this background that is askew just enough to cause me pain.

That horizon is killing me. I don’t recall exactly, but I’m pretty sure the bg was not supposed to be at an angle. Ugh, suffering.

Anyway, this girl is a card as well as a magical person, so unlike all the other NPCs in Egypt, she gets the opportunity to set her eyes on 20th century people and be like “wtf are you assholes wearing?”

Rather than convince Mana that Yugi is the Pharaoh and see where this plot line goes, Joey says, “Isn’t that Pharaohs’ royal purple cloak like right over there? This cloak that probably costs in today’s money like 5 billion dollars because he’s a literal Pharaoh and wears an entire dowry on his ear lobes?” and Mana is like--”Oh shoot. Weird I did not notice that when I was so fixated on the fish.”

And so Mana has decided to join Yugi and Co because she is very much just here for the ride and also any information on how to run into her kind of sort of whatever the hell relationship is between her and Pharaoh. This makes sense to me, honestly, this was how I navigated all of college. You end up at a lot of weird parties doing this, but you’d be surprised how many people will ask you to just join their crew if you happen to be walking the same direction and know one person in common.

Bro came up with that pun and he’s extremely proud of it.

Again, rip the horse from last episode, at some point an alligator must’ve gotten to him (or the fall made him explode into little pieces, don’t worry about it). But we find Pharaoh in this cave, just out of sight of anyone who would actually be able to spot him.

Perhaps he’s doing this to stay out of the heat, but it’s also very likely that he’s just very embarrassed for that huge L he took falling down that hole and would like to just vibe out in a cave for a bit and contemplate his earliest memories.

To go from the man who remembers nothing to remembering yourself as a baby who gets his ass wiped 7 times a day.

Memory is freakin wild to Pharaoh.

I know this is a lot of caps of Pharaoh as a baby but that is a WEIRD ASS BABY. Also kinda cute but the baby is WEIRD.

Covered in tears, a preteen Yami is dragged to a tomb somewhere in Egypt, as if to scope out his future abode that he absolutely will not be buried in because he does, in fact, get smooshed into a puzzle.

And seeing a wonderful opportunity he immediately topples into it.

After walking down this long pit, we come to take part in some sort of Ancient Egyptian gods ceremony. Which is fascinating, because it’s not too, too often in this show that we reference the Egyptian gods outside of what is in the cards that Marik plays. But these are like the literal gods, not the fancy cards.

I have no idea if this is referencing an actual ceremony we know about or an actual mural that we have in some tomb in Egypt in real life. but I’m gonna guess this is probably not 100% historically accurate.

I have since been informed it is Kul Elna and not Kel Elna but I am not bothered enough to fix the cap.

Death count according to my google doc is 7,805,847,571 by the way. Originally I thought there were 700 people in Kul Elna. But thousands infer at least 1300 more so lets add another 2K just to round it off.

A nice shot for anyone that wants to do an anime panel redraw for that meme (do people still do that meme? I have avoided art twitter rather successfully lately so I’m blessed to no longer have to draw memes. Unfortunately I’m still on webcomic twitter but that’s just a place where people get viral by complaining, so I don’t have to draw nearly as much promotional material. It kinda rocks.)

I really should not have laughed while watching this part of the episode but that realization that Pharaoh was trapped in a necklace anyway, and then this immediately following it was quite a funny jump cut.

And then he was gone.

.......no backstory on Hassad, I guess? He’s just a guy who is wearing/is literally a millennium item and is currently depicted in a tablet?

I don’t even know where that backstory would go, it would have to be between Dartz and when the millennium items were forged out of the millennium stone. Or maybe he’s just a card? I dunno. But that guy jumped out of no where, just a brand new millennium item and now he’s gone.

My brother cannot tell the difference between Tahoma and Papyrus so hopefully it’s clear that Tea talks in Tahoma and Mana in Papyrus fonts. Unfortunately, they...have the same font color because I never initially thought they’d be on the same screen.

At this point, they run into Pharaoh, and Mana pretended like she knew that Pharaoh fell down a hole the whole time and that she didn’t spend half her day fishing.

Bro was like “Can you imagine trying to explain America to Mana?” and it sure was food for thought.

So, that’s all for this episode, in the next we shall find out how many more holes we can throw all our characters down. Which honestly is just Writing 101 when you think about it. As in Writing 101 the class, not 101 holes. Sorry I have a hard time reading and writing with long covid, although I still like to do it, so if parts of this are like incomprehensible, I’ll fix it in post. Like that joke just now. No idea if it made sense but we’re going to print it because I want to move on to the next episode.

this is less about fashion but his colour palette is just soooo so pretty!! it suits him so well and ahgudhkd.. even before i started really liking him i thought he was quite pretty!! and his visual themes were gorgeous to me, he still has one of the prettiest bursts to me in the game, even if more simple compared to recent ones (for the love of god look at f.u xuan’s leaked one). his burst was what made me so excited abt the visual quality of the game back in beta!!

ok so the main reason why i started liking him so much in the first place was getting to know his past reincarnation as yyj and how he feels about it and his development(?) from it so. i’ll put this under the cut

the fact that he’s someone so.. somewhat rooted in the present, and has moved on completely from his past reincarnation as yinyue jun/dan feng is just? really admirable to me?? he was so firm in saying that he is not dan feng anymore and he won’t let dan feng’s past hang over him. and he’s right- he really isn’t dan feng anymore and the fact that he’s so self assured made me admire him a lot.

his conversation with jing yuan was so tense but bittersweet, and while i can tell jing yuan had some mixed feelings about it (i imagine he saw dan feng as a dear friend.. or more, and seeing him again—sorta—only for him to say that he is not that friend anymore, n being told that wld hurt obviously), he was ultimately very happy that dan heng choose to leave it behind and really. move on to a new life with his found family in the express. and i’m also rly proud n happy of dan heng for being so….. so Agh. i can’t explain. so assured!! it’s so nice to see.

i can only imagine how hard it wouldve been to get to that stage- but that scene. that conversation with jing yuan where he firmly tells him that he will not walk in dan feng’s shadow anymore was what made me start liking him so much. it made me quite emotional ngl

but also that scene where he was forcibly turned into yinyue jun and the one whr revealed the dragon palace (with samudrartha playing in the bg) were so cool n hype i just ghdufhekgleklejf;@:£&/

I’ve been an artist ever since I was 11, and posting since that age too. I never got any interactions on my posts, which were usually on amino and stuff, but I figured that was because my art skills weren’t great. I wanted to keep trying, hoping to get more engagement.

And yeah, engagement isn’t everything. But keep in mind that I was in the 6th grade and didn’t have many friends at the time. Any I did have didn’t really… acknowledge me? If that makes sense. Like we talked but they never complemented me or said I was good at anything. My parents were going through hard times with my mom being sick with something I won’t disclose here. Also, at the time, I auditioned for the school plays. I also didn’t get lead roles, just bg ones. I figured that since I wasn’t really a good actor I didn’t get good roles, so once I was better I would get better roles. So like my art I just kept trying.

But with both my art and acting, as middle school progressed, I didn’t get any engagement or good roles. Still didn’t have many friends, and since I was struggling with mental health at the time I often hid my real feelings from those true friends I did have. I thought it made me weak. I had gotten better, and was posting frequently and stuff, just never got more than 5 or 10 likes. Didn’t get any roles but that was probably because my drama teacher was a real piece of work lol. Anyways self esteem blah blah

Not going to go anymore into that bc I don’t wanna think abt it but I just got waitlisted for a college, and rejected from basically everyone that I applied to. Mind you I had a 31 act (I studied for like weeks). And idk, I’m just. I don’t know if this makes sense, but it just feels like my whole life I’ve been fighting and fighting for things that the universe just doesn’t want to give to me. Maybe it’s bad luck or something, but it feels like something in my life is always dragging me down and I gotta fight against it.

And it sounds selfish, but other people don’t have to fight and I want that so bad. One of my good friends at school is also the daughter of an immigrant, and I’m so jealous of her because she has so many things that I want. Her parents are loving and supportive, and while mine are too she gets to be in the art class while I have to take all academic classes ‘for my future’. She’s so pretty and she has a boyfriend, and I just feel so weird. And it’s not that she hasn’t had a hard life, though we don’t really talk about our pasts. It’s just that so many girls at school and around me are pretty and good at stuff and I just feel like I have to keep fighting and fighting for what I want, and if the universe decides to give it to me it isn’t going to be without any pain on my part. I just want things to be easy for once. Plus today I also posted some art I was proud of, but got no engagement (not on here). I’ve been posting frequently and reworking my account, hoping to be able to draw to get some side money when I’m in college, but now I’m not going to any of the colleges I want to go to and no one knows or likes my art and I just. I guess I just want the universe to cut me a break for once. I don’t get why I have to fight like a dog just to be happy, why I can’t just sit back and let it come to me for once. Why the world still made me fight when I was a little girl. Why it insists on making things hurt.

HAPPY 1ST ANNIVERSARY MY BOYS!!!!!!!💙💙💙

It’s already the 5th in korea so I thought I would do my silly rambling now. I can’t believe it’s already been a YEAR??!,? It feels like yesterday when I first discovered them. I’ll forever be grateful to youtube for recommending me their live performance 😭 it was a wonderful coincidence. When I first heard TNT, a few days after their debut, I was blown away… I was just curious and didnt expect to love the song THAT much. But I made a great decision to be a friendz!!!! I can’t express my love for these boys, I almost love them as much as gwsn. They’re my source of energy and comfort whenever I feel down. They’re friends that I look up to, sort of. Their songs are full of intense emotions and I never get bored of listening to them no matter how many times. They’re incredible performers with crazy stage presence, with each performance they seize my mind and bring me into another world. I can feel their burning passion when watching them. They often thank us for supporting them but I want to thank them for being who they are<3 it baffles me how they’re so unknown… I know they’re still rookies and don’t rlly stand out among the 4th gen bgs, but.. come on!!!!! They have a flawless discography and are so charismatic and talented. I just don’t get it 🥲 ANYWAYS I love trendz so fucking much and I’m so happy to be a friendz💙 They mean everything to me. I’m so proud of how they evolved so much in just one year, it’s insane. I’m curious and excited to see what 2023 brings for them !!!! I’ll forever stay by their side💙 I doubt anyone read this and that’s okay. Sorry this is long af, it’s difficult to sort my feelings ^^’
