Thanks for all the support through my pouched rat wood charms! I've donated $132 through APOPO to help support the HeroRATs. I did opt for the plush so I can have it hang out at my con tables (like with the pika plush) and I can point people to these organizations if they ask about him! Future donations will be directly monetary.
The "Paisley Rats" fabric, designed by Patrick Moriarty, features a unique pattern of rat silhouettes amidst a paisley design. Created in Southend-on-Sea, UK, Moriarty's designs are printed by Spoonflower.
The pink version of the Paisley Rats fabric was bought by a customer recently. The design has white rat silhouettes and an intricate white paisley pattern on a vivid pink background.
The next photo shows the pink version of the Paisley Rats design printed on cotton. Spoonflower print the Paisley Power fabrics including the Paisley Rats designs. Designer Patrick Moriarty is very pleased with the…
During the pandemic, I got obsessed with e-learning and ended up volunteering with different groups to practice making modules and using authoring tools/software. One of them was an NGO based in Cambodia, People Stories Charity. Last year they tried to launch a project bringing tourists to see Siem Reap while also promoting awareness about their advocacies, mainly education as a way to transform lives.
I signed up cos I’ve tried going to Cambodia twice in the past, first was 20 years ago (gasp!) but only lasted, uhm, give or take 30 mins crossing the border from Bangkok to Poipet for a visa run. The next was about 10 years ago (gasp!) but then I got so sick with some strange illness, I had to skip the trip. They ended up changing the dates for the project but I already booked flights so I went anyway.
I aimed for a full experience and while I would say it’s been lovely, it’s also been very sobering. Like one minute you’re in your soft girl era lounging by the pool drinking your cocktails while planning temple runs and then the next you’re in a remote village where children have to walk long distance on muddy roads to access a school. How to deal with thoughts and feelings related to that? I have no idea. 🤷🏻♀️ I am still processing.
In any case, coming to Siem Reap feels like it has long been over due. It’s called me so many times and after 20 years, I’m happy I’m finally ticking it off from my list. 💕

Herorats are trained to sniff out things like landmines or tuberculosis. My middle school class one year adopted a tb sniffing rat and the kids loved getting updates about him.
The Paisley Rats fabric collection is popular with customers worldwide. They choose a version of the rat-patterned design from the collection on the Spoonflower website, then they choose which type of fabric to have the design printed on, eg. cotton.
1 yard of Paisley Rats fabric (the small-scale red and black version) was bought by Emily on July 3rd, 2023. She chose to have the popular design printed on cotton. The design was created by Patrick Moriarty in Southend-on-Sea UK in 2014. He drew the design on paper using pens. He initially drew shapes of rats with their eyes, whiskers, toes, ears, and tails. Then he placed the rat shapes in a…
If you’ve been following my stories, you know I’ve recently taken a trip to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
I will post about that trip soon but before anything else, if you haven’t tried solo travel yet, I will say this is your sign to do it! So many things to can get from #solotravel. Some of my favorites are:
1️⃣ Getting a Break from Routine: For those who are dragged down by daily routines and responsibilities, it’s an opportunity to recharge and re-awaken one’s sense of freedom, resilience, and adventure.
2️⃣Flexibility: You can create your itinerary, go to destinations at your own pace, and make spontaneous decisions without considering the preferences of others. You can make plans based on your physical comfort, energy levels, and interests.
3️⃣Self Discovery and Reflection: It’s just the perfect chance to reconnect with one’s self. Without the distractions of daily life and other people, there is uninterrupted time to consider thoughts and emotions you haven’t paid attention to before and so essentially you’ll gain a deeper understanding of yourself and how you relate to the world around you. 💕
#Cambodia, particularly #SiemReap is a good place to try solo travel as there’s so much to do, the area is generally safe, people are friendly, and there are plenty of options
Hold me accountable when I’m not high I need to post a donation link and info for the APOPO hero rats that detect landmines including in Cambodia. I think they have over sixty rats in just there alone right now. They also have some that detect tuberculosis. Anyway it’s because it’s a great cause and an issue on people’s minds. And they definitely know how to make you want to donate, those African giant pouched rats are incredibly cute and amazing
