Ten Fact Challenge
Rules: Write ten facts about yourself and then tag followers you’d like to know more about.
I was tagged by @kentuckwitch and got to know her a little bit better! Reading her responses was a load of fun, so I thought I would do one as well.
1. I’m 23-years-old and I’m an October baby.
2. I am a 5th generation Appalachian. I was born and raised in a small town in Eastern Kentucky where I grew up and lived until I was 20 years old. After turning 20 and getting my associate of arts degree, I went off to university on scholarship. I still live in Kentucky, but I am not longer in the Appalachian region. I miss living in Appalachia so much, especially as spring approaches, but there are a lot of things I also enjoy about where I live now.
3. I will be graduating in May from my college with honors and a bachelors degree in middle grades education with a focus in english language arts and social studies. I didn’t always want to be a teacher, but after getting into a serious relationship with my then-boyfriend and now-husband, I decided to focus on something more sustainable and (mostly) stable. I enjoy teaching and working with children, I just hate the lack of support my state gives educators.
4. My greatest passion of all is writing. I enjoy writing poetry and short stories, but my biggest aspiration is to write fantasy novels. I am still storyboarding and I often work on short narratives, but a lot of my writing has been put on hold while I work intently on finishing my degree. I am eager to get back to writing since going for long periods of time without it makes me feel very much unlike myself.
5. I live with my husband, our two cats, and my step sister. We took my sister in just after Christmas since our parents split up and she had difficulties attending school and having familial support. She is currently living with us and we are putting her through her remaining semester of senior year so that she can start college in the fall.
6. I was raised in an apostolic pentecostal church in Appalachia. As a result, I had a lot of early childhood anxiety about damnation and the end of the world. When I was 10, I made the decision to back out of the church. This led to a lot of discord between me and my father. In late middle school and early high school, I attempted to rejoin the church and essentially “find myself” the way so many of my peers had. I quickly figured out that organized religion stifled my creativity (because many things I enjoyed were touted as heretical in the church community). Since leaving the church in my freshman year of high school, I have not returned since and have felt happier in letting go of that part of me. My focus now is less on religion and more on spirituality. Although I believe that higher powers exist, I like to think that these powers manifest in nature and at the limitations of the human spirit. I like to believe that if you put good into the world, something good and just will manifest as a result--even if we don’t always see the product of our works. Additionally, I believe in the power of willing things to happen and in relying on the natural order of the world. I am not sure how to align my beliefs, but I connect more with the ideals of granny witches in Appalachia than traditional christianity.
7. I have been vegan for almost 2 years. The transition was an overnight switch from being a lacto-ovo vegetarian due to severe medical issues (hello, sudden dairy intolerance). Since going vegan, I am no longer medicated and have more energy overall. Now I am also vegan for ethical reasons and try to do my best to shop cruelty-free when possible. My husband also went vegan a year after I did.
8. Fandoms are a big part of the joy in life. Harry Potter, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, LOTR, and the works of Leigh Bardugo and Sarah J. Maas bring me so much happiness. So, apologies ahead of time if I ever spam-post retweets of my fave fandoms. I already made a side twitter for most of my elfy and fantasy jazz so I don’t have to tone it down: @ageoftheelves.
9. My favorite drink is orange-flavored La Croix and my favorite food is probably some variation of vegan mac and cheese with veggies.
10. I am new to tumblr and still struggle to navigate how to use it most of the time. I am always looking for new tumblr accounts to follow as well, so feel free to drop a line in the comments if you think I’d be down for your blog! <3
I don’t have many followers, but I am tagging a few that I would love to know more about. Don’t feel obligated to do so if this isn’t your thing! @venomnipotent @blonde-scully @appalachiancharm
