I saw a lot of people recently saying they purposely skipped the entire Openbound sequence because of Hussie's self-insert alongside like Meenah being interested in Karkat and characters like Meulin encouraging it
but that like doesn't make sense to me, because if they're going about Homestuck by skipping all the potentially uncomfortable portions, then how are they going about reading the comic in the first place?
I think my favorite part of this is how those are, frankly, pussy-ass reasons to skip it. Hussie's Author Avatar sucks on purpose, always, and Meenah is textually in the wrong there. She has a very poor grasp of consequences and the concept of what is right and wrong, it's a big part of her character. It's why her whole relationship with (Vriska) exists, which is also textually immoral, is handled and addressed as such, and paints Meenah as being predatory, intentionally or not, for chasing after someone so much younger than her who is, just... So vulnerable, mentally. Honestly, if they're skipping over the entirety of the Openbounds just for Meenah's weird obsession with Karkat, then did they skip over her relationship with (Vriska), too? Because that was very solid, fascinating characterization for both of those characters. And, again, paints her as creepy for doing it, because... She is. And it was a part of the "main comic", so to speak. What did they do about that? Is that fine? Did they skip all of those pages, no matter what? What's the limit here? Is this specifically an aversion to the concept of abuse in a relationship, period? Did they skip any page circling the relationship between Vriska and Tavros, or Gamzee and Terezi? Is it specifically an aversion to abusive and predatory age gaps? Did they skip all of Doc Scratch's pages and interactions with all of the girls? Is it specifically an aversion to an adult sexually abusing a minor? So, did they skip Dave Strider's entire intro, which is thickly soaked in the fact that he's getting abused, including sexually, by his 30+ year old brother?
Everyone has a right to be uncomfortable about anything, but the author intent is clear here- Meenah is in the wrong, and anyone supporting her actions is also wrong. This kind of makes criticizing the inclusion of her actions into the storyline... Well, bullshit, frankly. Not liking the inclusion of abuse because abuse as a baseline makes you uncomfortable is not a criticism, it is a statement of preference, and with that I have to gesture towards the entire rest of the comic, because Homestuck is full of that very same kind of abuse, and it is bad and graphic every time. Criticism of the inclusion of abuse within a storyline has to be about the handling and execution of that abuse within the confines of the plot, and in this case, and all other cases, I think Meenah's abusive tendencies are outlined pretty clearly as being a bad thing. If you read her actions as an endorsement of being a violent, selfish, predatory bully with basically no concept of morality or consequences, you either are illiterate, didn't actually read any one of the pages she was in and got your opinion from someone else, or you are reading in bad faith on purpose. She is literally a version of Her Imperious Condescension, which is, like, one of the main fucking villains of the comic. Hussie's Avatar is also wrong, and you should hate him. That is the point of Hussie's Avatar. His role in the story is being annoying, weird, and wrong. Hussie's Avatar is not actually very reflective of Hussie as a person. Hussie doesn't like The Avatar. This is pretty obvious if you pay attention to him for five seconds.
So... These aren't instances of the Openbounds being written badly, they're instances of the readers being unwilling to engage with something that could even just potentially be uncomfortable despite that same thing permeating throughout the rest of the damn webcomic and also getting their opinions from other people, uncritically. Sigh. Homestuck being full of weird uncomfortable plot beats is... Literally fine. It's normal, it's handled pretty decently as a baseline, and phenomenally at other times. It's made for adult people who can think critically about these things. A lot of those uncomfortable aspects were... You know... Intentional? There's a point to Meenah creeping on people younger than her, and it's a deliberate one. Skipping the Openbounds for it is stupid horseshit. Doc Scratch already did that. Bro Strider did that to Dave and people love that guy. I ask gently for people to grow a spine. Think for yourself. Read something yourself, unbiased, before casting judgment. Good lord.

Mothman's Buffy Rewatch: Season 2, Episodes 5, 6, and 7 "Reptile Boy", "Halloween" and "Lie to Me"
Reptile Boy
Ok I actually watched this episode last week and forgot to write a post about it lol my bad
Anyway Buffy and Cordelia get drugged! Horrifying!
Damn Giles let Buffy have fun she's fucking 17 and facing death every day
Kind of love Cordelia and Buffy sort of starting a friendship
Is the snake like. A metaphor for dick. Like the club is dangerous because you'll get drugged and then men will take advantage of you with the "snake"?
Especially since its university age men trying to date high schoolers like freaks
And then there's the guy who told buffy not to talk to the snake because she's a woman and then gets the shit beat out of him get fucked shitidiot
I wish he died horribly <3 misogyny is punishable by death if you're a fictional character in my book tbh
Damn they've really been sacrificing women for centuries, i originally thought this was a newer group due to the lack of old people
Halloween
Xander is such a loser lol at least tell Buffy thank you for saving you from getting the lights beat out of him
Cordelia and Angel interactions are so funny to me 😭😭
Honestly I really feel Willow when she feels uncomfortable in revealing clothing. I want to be, but it's hard
Yo Oz and Willow first conversation
Noooo the poor old lady 😭 at least she's fine
Princess Buffy is so silly but kind of annoying and Army Xander is better than real Xander if I'm being honest
I think princess buffy should've had a moment where she accidentally hurt someone or broke something and was surprised and confused because she's just a weak woman (in her words) and she doesn't know she's the slayer
Honestly seeing Buffy like this makes me insanely uncomfortable and I don't know why? I'm just not used to it ig
ETHAN THE GUY GILES HAS BEEF WITH I FORGOT ABOUT HIM
GILES JUST FUCKING PUNCHES HIM I LOVE IT
"Hi honey, I'm home :)" iconic but it also made me think of the song "Honey I'm Home"
Beat his ass Buffy! I love to hate Spike
Oz already being infatuated with Willow is so cute
Tbh I think this was a really cool episode concept in general
Lie to Me
Damn this kid knows stranger danger. Almost wasn't enough to save him though rare Angel W
I kind of love Drusilla she's so
Every time Cordelia opens her mouth in class I become violent
Oh Buffy long lost friend? He's gonna be evil for sure
FORD F-150
Xander and Angel both being threatened by a man who knows Buffy, get a life
Lmfao the lonely ones
"Ours is a forbidden love." Lmfao
Spike possessive moment. I do appreciate when he realizes he's hurt drusilla he apologizes, good boyfriend I guess
Ah man fuck Ford <3 I hope he dies
"I don't deserve to die" yes you do <3
Ain't no way he's calling Buffy out because she didn't know he has a terminal illness when he's about to commit MASS MURDER 😭
Buffy don't apologize he sucks
God everything about this man pisses me off more than the average Buffy villain of the week
I love how much Spike actually cares about Dru
"Uh. Where's the doorknob" his tone was so funny to me
Lol get fucked Ford
NOOO HE DOESNT DESERVE FLOWERS
WAIT THEY ACTUALLY TURNED FORD LMFAO
Ok I understand hes afraid and he has a horrible illness and it's complicated and whatever it's just Everything about him pisses me off so much and I refuse to feel sympathy. Idk it's interesting what horrible circumstances leads people to due though, I think this episode has a lot to think about I'm just a hater
"Lie to me." "Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guy are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everyone loves happily ever after." I'm fucking sobbing this line gets me so hard

Everyone Sokka posting is is really starting to piss me off - y'all're so mad about hypothetical changes to a character when the show isn't even OUT YET. Acting like him not being daddy's little misogynist is a critical blow to the bones of the show when it's just. Not. Spoilers ahead
Sokka is a boy playing at warriorhood who becomes a leader and learns to trust his instincts and capabilities. Sokka is a non-bender in a group of the most terrifying bender motherfuckers on the planet who learns that his value lies in other places, but is not less than theirs. Sokka is a kid who lost his family to a war against an enemy presented as faceless and unambiguously evil, who learns that war is complicated on all sides, that no one side is perfect, who meets evil waterbenders and good firebenders and everyone in between and learns about the complexity of the human experience. Sokka is an abandoned child with responsibilities that weigh heavily on him, who learns that people really do come back, and he can lean on them, he can trust them to carry their own weight and to help him when he needs it. He is a southern water tribe member navigating his relationship with a world that forgets him, a brother navigating his complicated relationship with his sister, a boy navigating his journey to manhood. He is all of this way more than he is a misogynist.
Sokka's misogyny is so little of his character in my opinion, Suki beats it out of him early on and it's hard to maintain a "girls suck" attitude in a universe where the most terrifying motherfuckers you could ever make the mistake of crossing are girls younger than him (azula, toph, katara). I think it makes sense for him to be less misogynistic, in fact, I generally think the water tribe misogyny plots are tired and wouldn't be sad if they got cut.
Sokka's revelation that "I should respect women bc they can kick my ass" is so 2000s feminism for children. Very basic, reductive, good for children's media (which atla is, yay) but the new show is obviously aiming for people who enjoyed the show as children, and now we're older, we can understand complicated concepts like "you should respect women bc the are people, all of whom you should respect". And personally, I always hated the "misogynist makes a 180 after getting his ass handed to him" trope, I'm a physically very small girl, youngest of my family, with all brothers. To this day they could pick me up and throw me with ease. "Respect me or I'll kick your ass" doesn't work when the smallest of your brothers is twice your weight and 6" taller than you. I shouldn't have to beat you in a fight for you to treat me with basic human decency. Basic respect applies to everyone, regardless of martial arts skills.
Honestly, mild tangent here, the Pakku conclusion also bothers me. Katara loses and then he sees her necklace and... what? "I'm going to be nice to you bc I have a crush on your grandma" is uncomfortably adjacent to "I respect women only if I find them to be attractive and available". Are you serious? Anyways, back to Sokka, why does he need to be a misogynist? Is that really an essential character trait?
If you need an "in universe" explanation for why he wouldn't be, my man was raised in a village without men. I understand that women can be misogynistic and can pass those ideas on to their children (hi mom) but Sokka only noticing women are capable when one beats him up seems dumb even for him. They run his entire village. Women are in charge of everything bc all the men are away for basically his whole childhood. Either Sokka has literally never practiced warriorhood, or he has practiced with girls. Breaking news: local idiot notices the sky is blue
He doesn't have to be perfect or unproblematic. He can be inconsiderate and stubborn. His invasion plan fails, and he is manipulated by Azula. He parentifies his younger sister. He minimizes the importance of Katara and Aang' empathy as weakness. He blames himself for everything. He's an impatient complainer. He has plenty of other directions to grow.
My main worry is that the show is going to suck. They're gonna go full disney live action and make changes that they don't explore in any way just to have it be different so people watch it. I don't see the spark. I worry it's being made to capitalize on how beloved the show is and get those nostalgia dollars, not because they have anything interesting or important to say.
This has the potential to be a good change - in a well run show. I worry this is not gonna be a well run show. If you're one of the people mortally offended at the removal of your emotional support misogyny - consider why that specific aspect of that character is so important to you. I, too, have emotionally charged opinions about pieces of media that are important to me. I think it's good to self reflect on why. Is this about Sokka, or about change? Is this about the fear that something you love is going to be mistreated by corporations who don't love it, and that the things you love will be ruined by time?
Nostalgia is a helluva drug, and I think it's reasonable to be emotionally attached to your childhood media. I think disney has set a precedent of making really shitty remakes, which makes people understandably nervous for remakes. I love atla too. I worry about this show. I want it to be good. I fear it won't be. I understand seeing changes to the show as a threat to its integrity, if they change this, what else will they change?
Anyways, I'm always looking to broaden my horizons, if you have any in-depth opinions on this topic and are willing to discuss, hmu

“#plus anime uses incest too much so even when its meant to be dark #its tainted as a concept for me bc so much of the time its used to be comedic or worse sexual” you don’t have to publish this but man. You’re one of the biggest anime fans I know and it’s so refreshing to hear a fellow fan also admit this. Like I can brace myself through gross shit for the sake of a good show but it can get so exhausting to see everywhere. Yuri from Spy x family is on thin fucking ice
I was actually about to mention Yuri in that ask lmaoooo Like I said, I'm not against incest as a concept, it's just how you utilize it.
And in Spy Family it's for comedy?? I'm using that term loosely, cuz Yuri's infatuation with Yor is not funny to me, it makes me deeply uncomfortable. And no one in that universe questions it? Which is also strange, like I get Yor is dense, but jfc how does your brother not make you uncomfortable when he brings you flowers and demands you kiss your husband in front of him?
And it sucks cuz Yuri couldve been a good character for drama in the plot but instead we get 'haha incest funny' SIGH >: /

Hi! 🥹🥹 I absolutely adore your writing and your characterization of Tim, like he’s so life like and real, but also super lovable. Your works has actually inspired me to write something about Tim, like the movie vibes and your words are so captivating?? Authors with magical words like you are so rare 😭 thank you for existing and posting and writing!! 🥰🥰🥹
I’ve read books and tried writing little by little. Sorry if this is annoying, please just ignore this question if you’re uncomfortable answering. I was wondering about your writing process and how you plan it out? Like, do you imagine Tim in a scenario, and he just automatically moves and talk? Sorry if this makes no sense. Like, because he’s smart and I’m not really so it’s kinda hard 😭
Your flow is also super super smooth and has a rhythm, which is 🥰🥰!! Like something about your writing is so pleasing. Thank you once again for sharing your works!! 😭😭 like your tumblr answers and tweets are written so well, if you publish books that’s not even about Tim, I’d buy it no doubt.
I hope you’re having a great month and great year, and everything is going smoothly for you 🥰🥰 thank you for inspiring me to write.
that's so great to hear!!!!!!!!!!! i'm so happy you've started experimenting with writing that makes me ecstatic to hear!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ it's most definitely not annoying and i'd love to answer to the best of my ability!!!
the way i write is a bit disorganized- it's usually an idea that hits me or a concept that unfolds in my mind from normal everyday things. for example: on twitter i wrote a dicktim thread fic that took place in the very back seat of a car on the ride home from the beach. i got the inspiration to write it from remembering how much i hated going to the beach as a kid because i'd get back to the car all wet and sandy and i'd be cramped in the backseat where the cooler, towel, bags, and bags of peoples wet clothes and bathing suits would all be and i imagined how much more it would've sucked if i'd been part of an even larger family and naturally since all i think about is tim i thought of him in that situation and how he probably would've ended up sitting on someone's lap on the ride home. so i think that ideas sort of come from all your experiences and things that you know. the more things you do, read, or watch help fill your head with little bits of information, tropes, and all different kinds of things that may end up creating ideas!!
in terms of how i plan things either in tweets, tumblr responses, and within fics in general. i don't actually outline anything- i really should though!!! i feel like thoughts would be a lot easier to organize if i outlined it first. but with twitter i just write what i think of as it comes to me. because of how twitter is structured it's hard to do a traditional 'beginning' 'middle' 'end' storytelling without it getting too long and the character limits on individual tweets means often your thoughts get interrupted by the limit so you have to delete and rewrite things for it to fit. tumblr and normal fic writing you sit down and do similar things but there's also more...thought put behind it? like on tumblr and when writing fics i can go back and change, add, or delete things without completely altering the general flow of it! so the platform you're using definitely plays a role in how well you can get into a rhythm of writing!
with how my brain works with imagining the scenes as i write them it's a little bit hard to describe? it's a lot like when you're reading- the scene is playing out in your head and not in front of your eyes like how it does when you watch TV. i learned some time ago that there are some people who don't have the ability to mentally visualize things. like if you asked someone to imagine an apple they wouldn't be able to do it. when i learned that it was incomprehensible to me because when i write it's less that i'm thinking it and more like i'm 'describing' what i see in my mind. like in my writing when i say tim is out of breath it's because he's panting like he's run a marathon. if i say his skin is glistening it's because he's sweating heavily and the light is bouncing off it. occasionally i do slip in more in-depth detail, like i wonder where the light source is coming from in order to get the 'glistening' effect and a more comprehensive layout forms in my head- maybe the curtains of the window is open and sun/moon is shining light in, maybe there is a bedside lamp, a candle etc. often times when i'm writing the scenes it's from the perspective of a 3rd person or a 'film camera' effect. i never see the scenes from the point of view of tim or any of the characters- it's like i'm always observing them from the corner of the room ( a bit of a creepy way to put it but that's how my perspective occurs). i don't think i 'direct' their actions very consciously, i sort of let them play out in my head by themselves and if i don't like how something is going i 'replay' it and do the scene again until it's formatted or done in a way that i like and that's what ends up getting written down. that's the reason why a lot of my stuff isn't particularly dialogue heavy, i focus more on descriptions and internal monologues and scene settings and i tend to use dialogue when i'm leading to some conclusion or something to push the scene/get the plot moving.
also your point about tim being really smart rings true because if you want to do a mystery you need to plan and figure it out first- the problem with writing a very intelligent or clever character who always comes out on top is that you sort of need to be smart to do it and pull it off 😭😭😭😭😭
thank you so much for all your kind words 🥰🥰🥰🥰 it makes me so happy to learn that you enjoy my work and it makes me even happier to know that you've been inspired to write!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m so curious about the whole thing with Tracey’s mom
Guess it's time for me to elaborate then! (And also probably go on several tangents.)
I have a lot of interest in familial relationships--the good, the bad, and the nuance and complexities within. Probably because of my own messy and complicated family situation, but I digress.
The fact that canon gave us absolutely nothing regarding Tracey's history and family is interesting to me. You'll see a wide variety of takes because it's a total blank slate, and I think that's fun. Even though I have my own I like to see others. My take is that there's a reason he doesn't talk about it and doesn't go home.
Tracey's mom is... decently complex in my brain for an OC who has no name and objectively sucks. She's a single mother, and it's a mystery where Tracey got his optimistic nature from because she's pretty jaded about things. She loves her kid, or at least thinks she does, but she's insistent that the world is a dangerous place and they only have each other, which is... not healthy.
Additionally, in my immense longing as a chronically ill young adult for there to be more young characters who are chronically ill, I've been contemplating the idea of Tracey having PCOS--a condition that's genetic, and could have been inherited from his mother. Part of PCOS is that it makes conception and successfully carrying a fetus to term difficult and risky, with a high chance of miscarriage, so if this was the case it took a lot of luck for Tracey to be born at all. And on top of that, as I mentioned recently, I have another headcanon that he was immunocompromised as a young child, and that gave her one more reason to worry. Like, even later on when he's pretty much fine, she can't help thinking there might be a relapse. Every little cold sets her off worrying.
Tracey is friendly and adventurous and deeply curious about the world, and that worries her for two reasons. One is actual concern for her child's safety--that he's not strong enough, or that people will take advantage of his kind and trusting nature or mistreat him because he's different. The other is that his father left and never came back, and he might do the same if she lets him. She's sort of a worse parallel to Delia, interestingly--the fundamental difference between them is Delia chose to support her son and let him go. Tracey, on the other hand, wasn't let go so much as he finally decided enough was enough and left.
It took a while to get to that point though. The deterioration of their relationship really started when the azurill Tracey befriended evolved, and Tracey realized he was trans. Which also explained why his mother's insistence that men were nothing but trouble, trouble he'd do well to avoid, made him so viscerally uncomfortable. He comes out to her, thinking she's his mom and she loves him and she's always said she would no matter what. She's dismissive. She insists she knows her daughter and she knows a phase when she sees one.
It sort of makes him think. He's too young to fully grasp nuances, but on some level he can tell his mother underestimates his strength and his intelligence, and it hurts. He's always done his best to be understanding, to listen when she says being a single mother is hard, to be a good kid. Her protectiveness feels more smothering with the realization she thinks he's too weak and naive to face the world outside their little island, or even understand who he is.
He tolerates it for a while, but it's a test of even his patience. Finally he gets up early one morning, cuts his hair in the bathroom, writes a note because he can't bring himself to leave without saying goodbye, and takes his backpack and Marill and leaves.
It feels like the most selfish and cruel thing he could possibly do. She'll miss him, he knows. He'll miss her. He can't not look back, but he never goes back and never speaks to her again, refusing to risk letting her talk him into coming home. The guilt eats at him sometimes, but mostly the relief and exhilaration of finally being free to live his life are stronger.
And as we all know, eventually he finds a home with the Oaks, where he's loved and respected. He could never go back after that.

Never meant to make a post like this but while in the shower I accidentally wrote an essay in my head about why I didn’t like Scott Pilgrim (2010) so might as well be a bit of a cunt about it for minute
Back when this movie first came out, the concept made me kind of uncomfortable, so I didn’t bother trying to seek it out, not then nor in the many years since. Make no mistake, though, when it came up as a movie night movie, I actually wanted to like it. So many people I know have positive feelings about it, so I thought, surely! Surely there is something here to love. Or at least like. Plus it’s Edgar Wright, and Hot Fuzz is one of the most perfect films ever made.
Nope! This film is not good and I did not like it! Let me explain why! There are two axes on which this film failed and I’m going to detail both.
Scott is a terrible protagonist. I kind of don’t really care that his friends occasionally make fun of him or call him a loser when he never changes. Protagonists are allowed to be shitty people, but this is not making that concept work. He just sucks man, and the whole thing revolves around him being cool because he has the best jumps or whatever.
Ramona is barely a character. Why does she like Scott? Why does she want to be with him? I have no idea! I don’t know anything about her except she’s played by a very beautiful actress I would also want to date! She has basically no agency. She’s just getting passed around like a football depending on who’s winning the game at the time or whatever. (Also, the idea that this woman is reduced to her sexual—or not even—history being analyzed and interrogated in service of men is just. Still very uncomfortable to me on the face of it.)
Really, none of the characters feel like characters, which again, is potentially fine, because you can easily have a story where the characters are a bit flat because it’s really about moving your little dolls around in service of a plot. But the problem is that the plot IS the characters! It’s about this guy and this relationship and I do not care about either!
And that brings me to the other axis, which I think is where this all comes from: this is a bad story for a film adaptation. People need to realize that not all media are created equal and sometimes things don’t need to be films. There are too many characters, too many things happening here, which leads to everything being shaved down into little nubs we go through one after the next and then it ends. It’s too much to cram into a couple of hours.
Anyway, I’ll anchor this by saying the good things: the actors are doing their best. Whatever character comes across is mostly through acting choices. It looks good. Edgar Wright is obviously a good director. And because of this film, more people know about Metric. “Black Sheep” is in fact an S tier song of theirs, tho no offense to Brie Larson, the Emily Haines version is superior.

AWW HELLOO !! it's me again <3❤️❤️ i hope you don't mind me asking these of you :DD
🖤🔐🌙🎵🎧💜❤️‍🔥🍓🍅🍊🍐
Oh god i'm so sorry if it's too much😭❤️ but i would LOVE to get to know you through this a bit more. OFC only if you feel comfotable and feel free to skip some question which would make you feel uncomfortable !! <33❤️❤️
Aw I don’t mind!
-🖤 Favorite hobbies outside of your blog
I draw and paint a lot, though I really suck at drawing mechanical things so I may not post any art
-🔐 Something no one would guess about you
I don’t care much for Borrowers stuff. I didn’t grow up with any of the movies (besides Thumbelina if that counts) and I never cared for the concept. Though, I do appreciate all the art and fics that go into the fandom, even if I don’t really read them.
-🌙 Your zodiac
I’m going to be real honest I have no idea what sun, moon, and rising mean. I do know I am a Leo :-)
-🎵Favorite artist
I really like Will Woods “In Case I Make it” Album, and Lemon Demons “Spirit Phone” is always a classic.
-🎧 The last song you listened to
I just rewatched Nerdy Prudes Must Die so all of the songs from that lmao
-💜 Describe yourself in five words or less
I LOVE ROBOTS
-❤️‍🔥 What character do you simp for most often
I wouldn’t call it simping, but transformers wise either Soundwave or Perceptor. Otherwise, I’m going to be real honest here, Clotted Cream Cookie from Cookie Run Kingdom. I know he’s a pastry but have you HEARD HIS VOICE.
-🍓 Favorite food
Steak. Medium rare. Yumby.
-🍅 Least favorite food
I don’t have a lot of variety in what I eat, but I guess foods like avocado are texture hell for me. Also spicy food.
-🍊 Favorite season
In generally warm places, spring. In generally cold places, fall.
-🍐 If you could make one character real, who would it be
There are so many characters I like, so I’m going to pick the most practical I can think of off the top of my head. In that case, Jirachi. I’ll keep it in my basement until it wakes up and then wish for world peace.
Thank you for asking!! This was fun to make :)

Are we not Engaged? Part 14.
Red vs Blue!
Spoilers under the cut.
Red Alear has a lot of ballista.
The avalanch mechanic was REALLY poorly explained, I thought I had to hide BEHIND the rock outcroppings, not IN FRONT OF THEM.
Red Alear still needs a hug.
Lol the animals you can adpt are no different from normal ones even though this is 1000 years ago.
Oh god Sombron is horrific.
Zephia hears Sombron treats his children like tools and decides she wants one of those. She’s like Eunie but a monster.
Lumera just wandering around enemy territory lol
Lumera was so nice TnT
Veyle worried
The guardian worries Veyle
Sombron’s castle is kinda cool
Veyle’s really uncomfortable
Oh lord it’s Lumera, Sombron is a bastard.
They’re repeating Mikoto, lol...
Lol stupid Veyle snuck in alone.
is Lumera threatening Veyle or challenging her to a dance competition?
This is supposed to be terrible but we barely know Lumera
The fuck Lumera knows was the ring would do?
Nice of Lumera’s body fading away to just pause at her waist for about a minute so she can have a second too-long death scene lol.
Oh no the party’s throwing death flags for the Emblems XD
The Emblems are gonna go away, lol. They’re tools, not characters, this’d be like being sad about the Wing Spear dying at the end of Shadow Dragon.
“The Last Engage” jesus christ.
Oh yeah you might notice I’ve stopped reporting on supports. I’ll get back to those :p
I have to enter the final battle from the Somniel directly, lol, what.
Marth’s being ominous again.
We’re actually riding the Somniel through the portal Sombron opened.
Something’s bugging Marth.
The portal’s ripping the Emblems apart. Oof. And once the portals closes it’ll send out a shockwave that’ll destroy the portals.
If you wanted me to care about the Emblems disappearing you should have actually had them be characters.
There’s like no cinema for entering the portal, you’re just THERE.
Oh, Sombron’s actually willing to let bygones be, lol, that’s kinda remarkable.
Sombron’s after Lelouch!!!
Ah, so Sombron’s from another world. Right, Lumera said nobody knows where he came from.
Why are they bothering to try reasoning with Sombron, he’s clearly deranged.
Lol, Marth confirms that Emblems are different from the people they’re based on.
He’s babbling about revenge but on who? The Zero Emblem?
Also shut up, Marth.
Oh he’s fucking with the Emblems. Oh shoot, Emblems are dead, that sucks :p
Power of friendship moment lol.
Oh no, this scene is just the characters condensing their character gimmicks into one scene XD
“Let us engage!” Roll credits!
This scene of all the Emblems coming back is really gratuitous.
I just noticed Sombron’s... things that those purple crystals are dangling from attaches to his hair. What.
This final boss theme sure don’t hold one drop of a candle’s wax to Id Purpose, End of All, Twilight of the Gods, or Apex of the World.
Sombron, both now and in the flashback, scolds Alear for turning on her father despite rejecting the concept of bonds, so what on earth is he griping at her for? Severing a bond that was never there?
Yeah I was expecting the dragon form, that first phase was way too easy.
ROFLMAO, DARK EMBLEMS.
So wait he rejects the idea of bonds, but he makes his own Emblems? God this guy’s a hypocrite.
Gah that final boss took forever! T_T
Oh please, cut it out with the pity party for the cretin who traumatized his kids.
Jesus why's this game so eager to make abuse victims try to be sympathetic to their abusers.
And bam, back to the Somniel. This game really rushes transitions.
This game’s still trying to make me think Marth was the biggest best partner, lol.
Oh lord, each of the Emblems is going to give some canned dialogue that references their character from their respective games, lol.
Lol, of course fucking Marth gets a special longer scene.
It’s trying to ape Azura’s death scene from Birthright but as usual it misses the landing because it drags it out too long.
Clanne and Framme never developed as people lol.
Holy shit, Alfred fucking died after the war! Long live Queen Celine, rofmao.
The hell, the Emblems are back?
You've gotta be kidding me THIS GAME DOESN'T HAVE A SUPPORT VIEWER ON THE MAIN MENU?
Whooo...
Anyways, game’s done. I’ll be back later with final thoughts.

The Surprise Attack of Jabba the Puppet
This was a weird one I’m not gonna lie. This a strange book in the series since it’s after the first three which generally make up Dwight’s arc and the first one of the series. Now the focus is a little scattershot but it pays off in the last two, but this one is strange. Not to say I didn’t still like it, but it’s definitely the weakest due to pacing and generally uninteresting cases. On to the positives though, FunTime is so genuinely painful it hurts, I mean the set up of it is a little strange, but this really does feel like crap school boards would do, Florida’s done weirder stuff to their education. Plus the concept of Professor Funtime and Gizmo/Webster is so funny. This book also has more Murky which is always good. I love that the dude, without hesitating picked Padme, that is an epic move. Plus, making annoying straight people feel uncomfortable is so funny and Murky does it to perfection in one chapter. I also love James Suervo Jr so much for no reason. He’s just this weird 8th grader who hangs out with 7th graders because the other 8th graders don’t like him, that’s just too real, plus Hando Calrissian will never not be funny. I loved Dwight in this book too. He’s just vining now that he’s completed his character arc (except for the ending, we’ll get to the ending) him just being captain Dwight, the gym coach respecting him, the sacred bond he has with lunch man Jeff! I mean come on you can’t write this stuff. However the scene where he immediately gives up when threatened with a call to his mom, that broke me man. It’s just so hard seeing him desperately not want to get his mom worked up again and not wanting to feel those intense emotions again. On my last final note in this horribly disorganized review, Mike’s mom freaking sucks.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
Tumblr media
!SPOILER WARNING!
Do not proceed if you haven’t seen the movie yet.
Tumblr media
Hi.
So, lately I have found great interest in this little saga called “Pirates Of The Caribbean”.
I mean, can you blame me?
This Disney movie saga has conquered many hearts everywhere around the globe, for the simple fact that these movies are really fun to watch, each one taking the audience on a journey.
But let’s start with the first one.
Now, I know that there are many errors and things that do not make sense in this movie.
(Like the ending, who knows, knows).
But it is still truly enjoyable.
The plot is well written, going always directly to the point, in order to never bore anyone with the story.
The visuals are amazing, taking the viewer from Port Royal, to Tortuga (our beloved Captain Jack’s favourite town), to other pirate places like Isla de Muerta and the Rum-runner’s Isle.
The characters all have a stable role and abilities, which we can see growing during the series.
Right from the beginning, one can feel how the dynamic between the Royal Navy, the high ranks of society and the pirates works, Commodore James Norrington being the landmark figure of this contrast.
Elizabeth and Will get kinda sucked in this situation, making her grow, and him finding out something about his past that makes him uncomfortable, but then finds a way to use it to his benefit.
I like the way Elizabeth is interested in pirates, and that she finds ways to get out of certain situations, making her gain the courage to refuse James’ proposal (poor boy) and to go against her father’s will.
I mean, she gets the blacksmith in the end, but I think she really was too “wild” for James.
She had a free spirit and he accepted that.
Then, the crew of the Black Pearl, with charming comic relief characters like Pintel and Ragetti, our great Captain and villain of the story, Barbossa, and Jack also, are basically the definition of piracy.
I love their backstory that adds a mysterious flavour to the whole “pirate curse” concept, which never gets old.
I have to say though, that there are many minor characters that I would have liked to see more during this movie, like Lieutenant Groves, Lieutenant Gillette, Mullroy, Murtogg, Gibbs, and other members of Jack’s crew.
Anamaria was a great character in my opinion, and she should have had more screen time and appearances in the other movies.
And then there is Jack.
What can I say about him?
This saga has made this character one of the best of all time, and I really hope that we get to see him again in a sixth movie.
His cunning abilities and creative ways of escaping have become legendary, just like his precious ship, the Black Pearl.
I really think that the Black Pearl is the best ship ever showed in the entire saga, but I like the other ships, like the Dauntless and the Interceptor in this one, too.
However, everything I can say about this movie, is that ages away from when it first came out, it is still one of the most entertaining movies ever, and I hope that one day we will see all our favourite characters and our Captain Sparrow sailing on the Black Pearl, once again.
Thank you for reading.
Have a nice day!!
“I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest.
It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly…. stupid”.

Welcome to the Blog!
Hey there, nice to see you here! I'm Onyx, I use he/him pronouns, and I have been hyperfixating on Star Wars for the last couple of years!
This blog is mostly for me to express my love for clones and their respective shows, as well as write about my characters or other scenarios involving said characters. I've loved Star Wars forever but only recently got the idea to make a place for me to let me ramble and talk freely about the characters I love so dearly.
I do take some writing requests, but before submitting one please look at my guidelines or I will delete/ignore it. If I don't answer a request right away it's either because I'm not in the mood to write for requests, I deleted the request because it was out of my comfort zone or made me uncomfortable somehow, or I'm working on it while battling writer's block which can increase the time it takes to finish writing by a lot. So, be patient, yeah?
This blog is mostly SFW, though some more spicy/mature posts will be made from time to time and they will be labelled as such. Minors, please be wary on my blog and stay safe. If I have to in the future, I will make this blog an 18+ blog and minors will no longer be allowed here.
Before you follow
I am autistic and will unapologetically ramble about things. I also might accidentally say something I don't mean or take something the wrong way because of my tone reading difficulties. I promise it's nothing personal!
I am very, very gay, and I use queer to describe myself in most scenarios. If that makes you uncomfortable then do what's best for you. I won't be tagging the word at all in my posts, though
I do not like clonecest and will not write anything for it. At all. I've always seen the clones as brothers and I don't write for incest either. It makes me very uncomfortable to think about it, let alone write or read about it.
I might not know if someone is problematic when reblogging something or talking to said someone, so let me know if someone falls into that category so I can correct my mistake! The same goes with any language I've used or things I've accidentally said! If I'm made aware of my mistake, I will do my damndest to make sure I don't make it again.
I don't really write for female readers/reader inserts. I lean heavily towards masculine/male readers since there's honestly not a ton of it out there for us to read. I also kind of suck at writing female readers and there are other people out there more qualified to write them then me if that's what you're looking for
I don't use y/n for reader inserts. I don't like how choppy it makes the writing so I use nicknames or things similar to it instead
I block blank blogs because of all of the tumblr bots going around. Indicate that you are human somewhere on your blog or else I'll block you without hesitation. I also don't tolerate hatred on my blog so I will block very quickly if someone is being nasty for no reason.
DNI if you are homophobic/transphobic/racist/xenophobic etc.
Tagging Key
(New tags may be added to this list in the future. Feel free to check back here to see what they mean and/or find any new tags I've made during my time here)
>> #Onyx's Oddments - Personal Headcanons/Opinions/Thoughts
>> #Onyx's Ramblings - Random ideas/concepts that are probably semi-shitposty or ranty in nature
>> #Onyx Draws - Art tag
>> #Onyx's OCs - OC tag, whenever my OCs are being spoken about, drawn, or in a fic
>> #Onyx Speaks - Announcements/Blog updates
>> #Onyx's Archives - Any drabble/story pieces that I make; my general writing tag
>> #Onyx's Inbox - General inbox tag that I use for any answered asks
>> #From the Ether - Answered anonymous fic/drabble/headcanon requests
>> #breaking barriers - For hurt/comfort fics. They are my most commonly produced genre/type of fic (hence why I've made a tag for them lol)
>> #behind closed doors - Suggestive/mature/nsfw tag
Below, you'll find my writing request guidelines if that's something you're interested in.
Request Guidelines
Will Write
Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Fluff, Recovery fics, and a ton of other genres
MLM/MLNB ships, Masc/Male readers, FTM readers, ENBY readers
Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Bad Batch fics, for a bunch of different characters. If I have to in the future I'll specify characters I will/won't write for
Character X Reader, Character X Character, or just general scenarios that aren't ship related like "X character and Y character do this thing and laugh about it." or "FTM reader comes out to X character." So, the scenarios/prompts can be platonic or romantic. If you'd like (once I introduce them) you could also ask for my OCs in the fics too if that's what you want.
One-shots, Short Fics, Drabbles, Headcanons, and Scenarios
Third and/or Second person POVs
Some triggering content such as things like self-harm, though it might take me a while depending on the content. I try my best not to romanticize things so please let me know if any fics in this category are doing that so I can edit them/take them down/rewrite them etc.
Suggestive/Adult Content (Minus NSFW or Smut)
Won't Write
Rape, Incest/Clonecest, Master/Padawan ships, pedophilia, sexual assault, stockholm syndrome, yandere, etc.
Star Wars movie fics. I haven't watched them in years so they would be inaccurate as fuck
Fem/Female readers, or ships that aren't MLM/MLNB
First person POV
Smut or full NSFW (I will be making a second 18+ blog for that)
Outline
This is for those who want a sort of direction that they can follow in regards to the formatting of the requests. Without this format it might take me longer to get the request finished or I might have to turn it down altogether.
(Blue means it's highly recommended/suggested, orange means it's optional)
Who: Who do you want to be in the fic? Who is the main pair/group/focus?
Prompt: What do you want to see happen, what do you want people to react to, or what do you want the subject matter to be? The more details you have, the better. You can also use dialogue prompts for these if you found some that you'd like to see appear in the fic
Genre: Hurt/Comfort? Fluff? Or some other genre?
Style: Romantic pairing? Platonic? Do you want it to be more of a Oneshot or something like bullet-point headcanons? Or do you want to see little drabbles of a scenario with multiple pairings reacting to it? Let me know!
Length: A general idea of how long you'd like it to be based on wordcount.
Appearance: If there are elements of the reader (if you want a reader insert) that you want included, put it here! Plus-sized? Long Hair? Short Hair?
POV: I can write in both third or second person, but I won't write first person. You can specify which of them you'd like if you want.
Reader gender: If you don't specify that they are enby, a demiboy, trans FTM/Transmasc, or a cis male (or some other masc/male-aligned gender) I'll default to a cis male and use he/him pronouns for the reader. If you want I can also have the reader using he/they, they/he, or some other pronouns, just let me know and I'll happily do that for you. (I will not be using any fem-aligned pronouns though)
Nickname: If you want a reader insert, giving them a nickname would be a huge help since I don't use Y/N anywhere in fics. If you don't supply one I'll come up with one instead
So, for those who like examples like me, here's a couple of potential requests and what they would look like following this outline. "Hello there! So I'm looking for a fluffy thing of the bad batch (pre-order 66) where [character] has a crush on the male reader (he/they pronouns). I was looking for some headcanons of how the other members would react to learning about the crush? I'd like at least 200ish words per section if that's okay, and the reader can use the nickname Sprocket :)"
You can also do something more detailed, like this:
"Hey! I have a writing request! I was looking for some hurt/comfort for a fic of a transmasc reader (he/him) who is dating [character] and they meet people from the reader's past who purposefully misgenders him and [character] steps in to correct them. Things escalate into a fight and when [character] and the reader get back to their personal quarters they talk about it. Reader is crying and [character] thinks he's upset but then they realize that the reader is just really proud and happy to have them as his partner.
You don't have to include this but I'd love to see the reader have freckles and short hair. He's also kind of short in my head, like 5' 3" ish.
I don't mind the length for the fic, do whatever fits for you! I'd prefer if it was in third person, and you can call the reader Wyatt if you want."
Both of them are fine! I personally like when things are separated more like the second one to make it easier for me to categorize and fit into my brain, but if you don't have a giant detailed idea in your mind then that's fine too!
See you later and happy requesting!

Ghosts and/or WWDITS for the TV series ask game!! 👻🧛🏼‍♂️
GHOSTS TIME
Favourite character: Hetty. Hetty. Hetty. Have you guys heard about Hetty Woodstone???? Funniest character: Hetty...this is going to be a trend in all of my answers. What do you mean Ghosts isn't the Hetty Show? I'm pretty sure it is. But man Hetty gets such amazing lines and Rebecca's delivery is always so fucking funny, her vocal shifts are hilarious. Second runner up is probbbbably Isaac! I love when he asks a question and then acts like he totally also knows the answer, of course, he's just making sure you know. Best-looking character: Hetty again sorryyyy like LOOK at her! That dress! Her hair! Her bustle!! Queen!!! The way she holds herself is so perfect. 3 favourite ships: Hetty/Trevor!!!!!!!!, Sam/Jay, Hetty/Flower Least favourite character: I honestly don't have one...even the side characters in this show I enjoy immensely. Agh. I guess maybe the skeezy Woodstone-estate guy? He wasn't really fun to watch Least favourite ship: Pete/Alberta :[ It's the only one I don't really enjoy at this point because of how Pete is acting towards her in canon. I can still enjoy it in fanon, for sure, but it's the one "might-go-canon" ship that I really hope doesn't at this point unless they do some major reworking of it. It's getting hard to watch Pete repeatedly make Alberta uncomfortable and then still want him to win her over, as someone who has had to deal with "Nice Guys" like how Pete is acting in this situation in the past who won't take no for an answer...it's not as charming as I think the show thinks it is, which is my main issue with it. I’m not sure if it’s being intentionally written where Pete is doing something he shouldn’t be or if it’s being written with the intention of it being cute? I don't want to bash the ship though, of course, I don't have any huge problem with it or think it's too terrible, it's just not really what I want to see. If they can give us a plot where Pete realizes he’s not respecting Alberta when she tells him no and backs off and it’s shown as a character growth molent for him I might warm up to it, but for now…eh. I'm pretty heavily neutral on all the ships otherwise! Reason why I watch it: There's just something about it, I really don't know what it is. It's so cute and funny and the pacing is really bad at times but it's just so fun to watch the entire time it's on. I love every single one of the characters so much, the chemistry between the cast is just amazing and you can tell how much fun they're having. I think what really drew me into it was that the way the characters are written and the concept behind them is similar to the way I approach my own ocs. I just love the idea of them being ghosts who cannot interact with the world at all, and who are just stuck together in this forced found family, a group of people who have no business interacting with each other but they are and they all have so much in common because at the end of it all they're just people, people have always been people, etc...it's just really fun and the fandom is so sweet, I have had more fun in this tiny ass little fandom than I have had with any other in yearssss. Why I started watching it: I had seen trailers for it when it was first coming out (CBS is the channel that's always on in the breakroom at work), and though "oh wow, that looks right up my alley" because of the combination of "supernatural beings but also they're all just. normal guys. Blessed with suck!" but then I didn't get around to watching it for a year because I was too fixated on other stuff still to want to commit to something else. Aghhh! I wish I had picked it up sooner!!

hi! for that ask game, uh, i don't super know what i can reasonably expect you to have opinions about, so i am hoping this will work better if i give you a list and you can pick and choose stuff to have opinions about? ☕️+ [c!phil, c!sam, hannibal (the show in general, or just the guy if you want), pangolins, love (as a concept / as it applies to your own life / a specific flavour of it / whatever), the history of science]
c!phil - i am TRYING to like him okay i am TRYING. i. like him more than i used to. definitely. he's a super interesting character! i want to like him! unfortunately when it comes down to it i am just... ultimately not really a c!phil fan. pensive emoji.
c!sam - i loooooooove him. representation of autistics who just kind of suck and are bad people. he is so rigid and bad at understanding people and bad at plans changes and especially bad at not responding by digging himself deeper and he has a complicated relationship to [personhood], he is part of the machine that eats people and he is an awful person-machine and he never asked why do you want this horrifying prison made, just how do you want it made, and he follows instructions to the T long after it no longer makes any sense for him to do so and sometimes he enjoys the cruelty and sometimes he doesn't and either way he continues being awful in this terrible methodological way because it is too worn into him to do anything else. i love the parallels between him and c!dream, between these two sadists who made their own prison. i love his desperation to be doing a good job and obeying all the rules and i love his deep and abiding misery that comes from it and i love his power trip that comes from it and i love his self-justifications and his insistence on always doubling down rather than admitting defeat. i love the way he is both a dom and a sub (not in a sexual way but in a deeper way of relating to the world) because he gets an awful sort of enjoyment out of Enforcing Justice And Rules on others but also he does it to himself & he wants so badly for someone else to take control of his life and pat him on the head and tell him he's doing a good job. he is Crushing and Being Crushed! i love. my local Buried TMA Avatar .
hannibal - HANNIBAL MY ONE TRUE LOVE....... watched s1 for the first time when i was 13 and it dug its way deep into my brain and will not be coming out ever. the capital-r Romance of it all!!!! sometimes i think all i ever want is to be in a relationship like that, all-consuming and hungry and conjoined and eating and being eaten, understanding and being understood on a level no one else can touch, and then i remember that's why i go to church. other times i think, this is horrifying, this is abusive, why does no one see or acknowledge that this is horrifyingly abusive, like-- i realize that there is Murder involved as well but the fandom is so victim blame-y and buys into all of hannibal's rhetoric without acknowledging the power dynamic and it's so profoundly uncomfortable sometimes-- i realize there is sexism and racism in the show which we can talk about all day long but the show is so profoundly anti-ableist in a way almost no tv shows are and the fandom is so!! fucking!!! ableist!!!!! it's about love and it's about the things we do to survive and it's about trauma bonding and it romanticizes all of these things in a way that rings very true to the experience and also gives me very very complicated feelings sometimes and. screams. also it doesn't care about consensus reality but in a way that is realer than real, truer than true. it taught me a surprising amount of pretty high-level literary analysis when i was in the fandom back when i still read meta for it obsessively instead of largely giving up on the fandom in disgust. we construct fairy tales, and we accept them.
pangolins - i'm a fan. he's just a little guy!!!!!!!!
love - ooooh this is a complicated one. it is so broad. i love so many things and so many people, at least in English, in the ways we define the borders of [love]. i fall in love so easily, much easier than i fall out of love. part of what made Christianity appealing, maybe, is agape. i want, have always wanted, to love everyone. this connects to hannibal, a little, and also to ender's game, and to a wind in the door. when you understand someone, no matter how horrible they are, you cannot fail to love them, the same way you understand and thereby love yourself. love your neighbor as yourself. the existence of a creator implies the existence of a loving creator; to will someone's existence is the same as to will their good, because [what good-for-someone is] is [Being-themselves]. i don't find that argument wholly persuasive on its own but there's a seed in there that is compelling. love is not always unterrible; cf hannibal again. love can be monstrous. i think a lot about john darnielle's quote about love love love--quite possibly my favorite song of all time--
The point of the song is, you know, that we are fairly well damaged by the legacy of the Romantic poets--that we think of love as this, you know, thing that is accompanied by strings and it's a force for good, and if something bad happens then that's not love. And the therapeutic tradition that I come from--I used to work in therapy--you know, also says that it's not love if it feels bad. I don't know so much about that. I don't know that the Greeks weren't right. I think they were--that love can eat a path through everything--that it will destroy a lot of things on the way to its own objective, which is just its expression of itself, you know. I mean, my stepfather loved his family, right? Now he mistreated us terribly quite often, but he loved us. And, you know, well, that to me is something worth commenting on in the hopes of undoing a lot of what I perceive as terrible damage in the way people talk about this--love is this benign, comfortable force. It's not that. It's wild, you know?
it is still love. bad and destructive love is still love but it's not good, necessarily. i find it beautiful anyway & this is what i mean when i say hannibal dug its way into my brain. i talked about love coming from understanding but it doesn't have to, always, i don't think; that is a certain sort of love but there are others. some people i don't understand at all & i wonder if i ever did & i still love them deeply & will never be able to stop. there was a girl (is she still a girl? i don't know. i knew her as a girl) i spent every tuesday with in elementary school and we would go to the pool and afterwards we would eat cookies and popcorn and watch mythbusters. i have not talked to her since i broke up with her, the summer between freshman and sophomore year of high school (has it really been seven years?), and we were terrible for each other but whenever i think of her i hope she is doing well. that's love, too, i think. whenever i talk with my parents we are both of us never sure what to say, and i spend much of the conversation uncomfortable and confused, and neither side really understands the world the other grew up with and lived in, and we never will, and we would both do almost anything for each other no questions asked, and we end every conversation i love you / i love you too. sometimes love is about the not understanding and loving them anyway, about my dad watching mcc with me or me watching hallmark movies with my dad. it's complicated. love is not just one thing.
the history of science - i think it's beautiful of people, and very human of us, to always be curious. to be trying to figure it out. people sometimes frame science and religion as opposed; i was too [raised on madeline l'engle] to ever go in for that, i think. if a religion is about knowledge and truth and beauty then science is no threat to it; if it's not, what's the point? certainly i know too many science people to have ever believed that science and art, or [knowing how something works] and [appreciating its beauty] are opposed! see this xkcd and this comic. so I love the history of science in that... people have always been doing this. people have always been loving things and trying to figure out how they work and rejoicing in the knowledge. but it's also complicated, because the history of science is often horrifying, is people papering over atrocities if they get in between themselves and the shining beautiful thing that they love, or taking and using the knowledge that they get to create the atrocities. but also i know that this dialectic is just... how humans are. cf. my answer about love, again. sometimes love is destructive.

Ok so update at about 11 chapters into this 63 something chapter long book (not as long as you think these chapters are pointlessly short but too long for this concept boy can I tell you)
Taking a break to write down some of my thoughts somewhere other than my notes document but to summarize my biggest gripe with this book and also summarize the plot our main character Skylenna (almost every character has some made-up fantasy name and I think Skylenna is more stupid sounding than the time we committed the same crimes as a kid and came up with "Raviella" as a name idea/hj) knowingly gets a job at a graphically violent and abusive psych ward
I thought from reading the synopsis that she was doing this so she could gather evidence of the abuses going on in there, like they were somehow being covered up. Instead, she's started working at this psych ward because her special empath ass is just so kind and smart that she'll reform it from inside despite being in nothing even hinting at a position of power to anyone except the patients.
She's such a good little empath that she gets a nonverbal person to speak to her and she's like yayy now they'll start taking me seriously here and let me make this place better!
And it's just. Yeah ok I hate this I hate everything about this how does this allegedly anti-psych media manage to be the most potent psych ward nurse propaganda I've seen in my goddamn life.
Also if you hate the brand of cis white feminism that thinks corsets are the sign of oppression and were literally killing helpless victorian women rather than just being like. bras. you're going to be even more uncomfortable with this book because it replaces the concept of corsets by having the government make every woman in the country have a mandatory eating disorder like literally anorexia or bulimia they are told to pick one and if they don't do this they're sent to the asylum. This is awkward and unrealistic to how nuanced societies work enough but it's emphasized how Horrible it is to be a woman in this society to a ridiculous amount that is actually so fucking uncomfortable.
The main character taking a fancy bath with oil in it and putting on lotion was described more vividly and as if it was more horrible than someone experience actual water torture and I have no fucking clue why but it is So Fucking Weird and unsettling to read.
I deliberately chose not to look up any of the criticism this book was getting because I want a genuine/unbiased first thoughts review on everything but when I learned about the book from the beginning of a review I didn't watch the youtuber mentioned she was linking to videos of a trans person talking about the transphobia in the book so I am really not going to be surprised if the author is terf adjacent somehow.
Oh and when she's empathing all over the place she describes the mentally ill people she's helping (all of which we've met so far are convicted murderers by the way) to animals and says it makes her feel like she's playing games with children when she communicates with nonverbal people.
The plural character hasn't even been introduced yet because everyone is too afraid to speak his name or go near his door and it's this big mystery on who this terrifying person is. The ableism of that aside it's so funny to me that so much mystery is supposed to surround this character considering the entire synopsis goes into detail about him so we know exactly who he is already.
I have a lot of thoughts on the structure and overall writing of the book (it all really sucks lmao!) but I don't feel like typing those up right now.
