SHADOW IS WRITTEN SO WELL IN THE MURDER OF SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!!

First of all, just him showing up to Amy’s party is a step up from his recent “I will do everything myself, I hate everyone, imma fight you” attitude that we have seen. Secondly, and idk if it was intentional, but him attending shows he cares about Amy. He’s always had a special place for her after the events of SA2, so it’s nice to see him showing up for something that maybe isn’t his style for her sake. (Parties aren’t really his thing, after all.)

It’s also really sweet of him to go through so many lengths to try and get Amy’s present. I definitely don’t think he forgot to get her a present, he genuinely just didn’t seem to know that it was a social norm to bring presents to a birthday. If he really didn’t care, he either wouldn’t have gotten her anything or he would’ve given her a rushed gift. But no, he went through a lot of effort, basically foregoing the game, just to stall Amy so he could get her a present she would enjoy.

And not just any present - he remembered her mentioning a specific band she liked and that she hadn’t seen them live. This not only suggests he listens to her and remembers what she tells him, but also implies that he has had multiple conversations with her. Clearly he must have also done some research too since he knew that the tickets were going live soon. He thought this through, even if it was a bit last minute, and did his best to get the tickets (even though he admits to not being the best with computers, which is also nice because usually Shadow just insists he’s the best at everything). I also think it was sweet that he didn’t heavily protest Amy’s suggestion to see the band together. He hesitated, but then yielded. This…for a character who recently has been written to be quite selfish.

He seemed upset that he couldn’t keep this a surprise, but he also didn’t become enraged or lash out at Tails and MC/Barry. In fact, he didn’t really lash out at anyone at any point which is refreshing, since in most Sonic media that’s his go-to emotion.

Most of his expressions throughout the game are fairly gentle in fact. Sure, he doesn’t smile, but he also isn’t actively angry. And the one expression where he does seem a bit negative just seems like his resting expression, or at absolute worse just a little annoyed. He’s very mellow throughout the game and it’s refreshing.

Even after he has finished talking to Amy, Tails and MC/Barry, he offers to stay with them and help them with the investigation. Normally in Sonic media, Shadow has no interest in helping others and only really cooperates if there’s a mutual goal/interest. And even then, he tends try to do things on his own. But in this game? He actually cooperates, and what’s more, he goes out of his way to offer his help.

So far I’ve mostly talked about his attitude towards Amy. But what’s his attitude towards Sonic? People debate back and forth on whether Shadow hates Sonic and the recent games and media have made it seem like he does hate Sonic. But in this game? I wouldn’t say so. I mean, he’s literally hanging out with him and his friends and instead of having beef with Sonic, he just focused on making Amy happy. And even when the situation gets more dire and Sonic is found to be knocked out, he doesn’t make any snarky comments or anything. In fact, he actually helps to tend to Sonic’s condition, even if it was just checking his pulse. If he rly didn’t care, he would’ve left it to everyone else.

Man, I could talk for hours about Shadow in this game. I can’t believe this April Fools prank game is actually the best characterisation for Shadow we’ve had recently. He’s not overly aggressive, he isn’t selfish, he isn’t super edgy. He is still sorta cold, but he’s not rude or mean. He’s actually really kind (in his own way), putting his needs and desires on hold to make Amy’s birthday fun and to help everyone out. I seriously hope that Shadow is written more like this in the future and not like he has been. Maybe Sega wasn’t joking about taking on board the complaints of the fandom.

as a britpop head, do you think gerard did britpop well during hesitant alien (sonically, stylistically, etcetera)

hmmm i am definitely not a definitive voice on britpop like if i were to be modest i would say i have a better than entry level knowledge of britpop. That being said, i think britpop can be a broad, vague genre. Pitchfork released a list of the 50 best britpop albums and it includes stuff ranging from Morrissey to Placebo to Oasis.

We do have interviews from Hesitant Alien where gerard lists his influences, specially pointing out Pulp and Suede, so if we were to judge his success based off of those... I don't think he perfectly emulated it, no. He doesn't have the fragmented nature to his vocals i think are so definitive for those two artists. I think the closest he gets to any britpop i've heard would be action cat, get the gang together, Juarez? He definitely layers the production in a certain way that feels like a mix of the two bands he named.

I think more than sound, Gerard just doesn't really tackle the general appeal of Britpop to me. Britpop is sort of an every-man genre. they would have songs that worked at voices for a generation or social class. I think the appeal of especially Pulp was their ability to relate to people by depicting normal situations and emotions into extremely simple lyrics that just lay it all out. Gerard has always written songs extremely metaphorically and personally. I love songs like Millions but I can't relate to it because it is so much about Gerard's personal experience in the music industry. (edit: the only exception to this I think could be Drugstore Perfume? It kinda has a similar song writing style as pulp where the protagonist is a woman and gerard is singing from the pov of a bystander. It sounds nothing like any britpop song I’ve ever heard though)

There is also nearly a complete lack of sex or sensuality to HA which i think is a major major aspect to pulp and suede. Not just with lyrics, but with performance. Both Jarvis Cocker and Brett Anderson deliver vocals in a style that would make normal verses sound raunchy. I am not saying I want to hear these from Gerard. I think hearing him say "fucking" in No Shows is silly by itself. He is just not very good at conveying desire outside of a challenging-tone.

I also don't think all that is a bad thing. I wouldn't want to hear Gerard singing a Suede song tbh. I think he was definitely inspired by britpop more so on this album than any other album he ever made. But then again, Ray was inspired by metal bands when writing Revenge and it's not like that that album sounds like Metallica.

Tails doesn’t actually have bad social skills, contrary to most tv geniuses. He’s usually comfortable talking to people. He usually keeps things on other peoples level, only occasionally dipping into technobabble (varies depending on portrayal). He doesn’t say awkward things or accidentally insult people. For a kid with a physical abnormality who was bullied for it and profoundly gifted status, he’s pretty well adjusted!

I’m guessing Sonic was a huge factor in socializing him. He may not be as forward or bold as Sonic, but he can learn how to talk to strangers, what it means to be witty, how to deal with difficult situations.

He’s also very pro-social. He loves helping people! Even though he seems to prefer being by himself (his houses across media tend to be in more isolated locations. Compare him living in Mystic Ruins to Amy living in Station Square), he has no problem being friendly and social and seems to enjoy being around people. He doesn’t seem to need it and is perfectly happy on his own messing around with his projects, but he doesn’t resent social activity and sees himself as part of his community!

I honestly like that about his character. It would be easy to write him as an arrogant genius with a chip on his shoulder (and some portrayals come close to this), or to really milk the angst and portray him as this permanent outsider… but he isn’t. That’s actually something he presumably got over early in life because he met Sonic. He went on so many adventures with him that it gave him a lot of self confidence and a sense of integration into community.

His major problem is figuring out how to be himself, which is why so much media surrounding Tails focuses on him finding his own style. In SA1, his theme song is probably as clear as it gets about this:

When all alone in my bed, I just go about yearnin'

I wanna be cool, I also wanna be like him

But that's not somethin' I can do so easily

This is not simply my way, my style

Gotta get a hold of my life

… Tails can’t be like Sonic because he is not Sonic. He doesn’t have the same skills Sonic has. He’s become more courageous but he’s not as bold as Sonic is. He can never be as fast as Sonic, even if he can keep up with Sonics normal running pace. He’s not as strong as Sonic. They are different people, but Tails still seems to hold on to the dream of being someone like Sonic.

This is why Sonic reassuring him focuses on the things he can do - he can fly, he’s an expert at mechanics, and he can still keep up with Sonic. His journey involves accepting himself as he is and seeing his unique skills as just as valuable as Sonic’s. To serve his community like he wants to, he needs to realize himself as an individual.

And that’s such a cool arc for him! A journey of self acceptance that doesn’t involve brooding or self hatred, but rather letting go of unrealistic expectations. It would be so easy to make his arc about how it’s so hard 😢 to be the smartest person in the room 😢 or the opposite, that he’s too arrogant and needs to be taken down a leg. But neither of these are his problem, and I love that. He’s not a jerk, he’s not condescending, he’s not self-obsessed. He wants to help people because he cares about his community, not to validate his ego. As much as he’s still a tv genius, he avoids some of those well worn paths to focus on different questions, and I love that about his writing.

Original character do not steal

Kinda fell down a rabbit hole the other day reading about Ken Penders, the writer/artist who sued Archie Comics to gain ownership of 250 Sonic the Hedgehog characters. Most of them look like this:

You may now be asking yourself: What does one do with 250 Sonic the Hedgehog characters? The answer may surprise you!

I'll try not to get too deep into this, since Bobby Schroeder and Comic Drake have thoroughly covered the story already, and I can't improve on their work. But even the short-short version is going to take a while.

Basically, Penders contributed to Archie's Sonic comics from 1994 to 2006. I'm not certain that he's the only reason the Sonic comics in those days were so overwrought and a little horny. But it's far to say he's representative of that tone, and he really leaned into it.

Penders's worldbuilding was especially prolific in Knuckles the Echidna, where he introduced a lost city of Echidnaopolis. In this sense you could kinda compare him to Carl Barks, who created the "Duck Universe" within Disney's line of Mickey Mouse comics. Of course, the biggest difference between Barks and Penders is that Ken claimed ownership of his work. Normally this never goes well for work-for-hire comics creators. But in this case, Archie literally lost the paperwork that said Penders was work-for-hire in the first place.

Without a leg to stand on, Archie was forced to settle. This meant both sides had to go through the Sonic comics and determine which Sonic recolors unambiguously belonged to Sega, and which ones would be ceded to Penders. I like to think the negotiations were akin to that Beanie Baby divorce photo.

Now, the problem with owning dozens of Sonic recolors is that they're not much good for anything except appearing in Sonic stories. But Archie and Sega weren't about to pay Penders to license his weird little guys to them, when Sonic still had plenty of other weird little guys to hang around with. And so, in Sonic The Hedgehog #244 (January 2013), a villain reveals that he teleported the echidnas away forever. After that, none of Ken's concepts were directly referred to again. All that stuff was implicitly erased from history with a soft reboot in #251-252, followed by a hard reboot when the comics moved from Archie to IDW in 2017-2018.

However, Penders already had plans to move forward with his creations without Archie, Sega, or Sonic continuity. In December 2011, he announced The Lara-Su Chronicles, a series of seven graphic novels starring Knuckles's future daughter, who first appeared in Sonic #131. The character designs manage to be legally distinct from the Sonic art style while maintaining the most obnoxious traits. You'd think this would be an opportunity to get away from giant cartoon eyes and "quills" that look like tentacles. But no, Lara-Su still resembles a hot woman wearing a giant fursuit head, except now the fursuit head always looks like it's smelling rotten eggs.

Anyway, it's been nearly twelve years since Penders formally announced The Lara-Su Chronicles, and as far as I can tell he hasn't actually published any of it yet. His website is currently taking pre-orders for the first volume, which is supposed to ship around January 2024. But even that is mostly reprints of Penders's stories from Sonic #131-144, with a new ending tacked on. I'm not sure Ken can reprint Sonic comics, but this should be an interesting way to find out.

From a creative standpoint, I admire the gumption it took for Penders to wrest control of his characters from Archie and forge ahead without the Sonic IP. But strategically, the whole endeavor looks like a huge misfire. The entire selling point of Lara-Su is to revisit an era of Sonic comics that has largely faded into obscurity. Even within that limited audience of the people nostalgic for that era, they mainly liked Ken's melodramatic storytelling because it added depth to the Sonic IP, and not for its own sake. For those Sonic fans, Lara-Su will always be more about what Penders took away "from them" than anything he can give back. And while that may not be entirely fair, I'm not sure it was entirely unforeseeable.

"Rammstein is my life. My job, my family."

Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. A truism that no one knows as well as Till Lindemann. For more than twenty years, the 52-year-old muscle man has been playing as Rammstein's frontman on records, stage and paper with the Neue Deutsche Härte-Feuer - after several postponements, the time has finally come: with his solo debut 'Skills In Pill’s announced at the beginning of the year will be released in mid-June, the most discussed album of the year!

Outside of the limelight, Till Lindemann tends to be the introverted, taciturn type who likes to avoid public appearances and feels much more comfortable in the rough wilderness night fishing than on red celebrity carpets. After one or the other time in the recent past at least raised eyebrows - on the one hand through the rather bizarre guest appearance of pop singer Heino during the last Rammstein show at Wacken Open Air 2013, on the other hand through Lindemann's songwriting work for Roland Kaiser's new album, also keep your fan base in suspense with the collaboration with Hypocrisy/Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren: On the joint album 'Skills In Pills' Till Lindemann rolls his enigmatic lyrics in English throughout and thus causes divided reactions within the metal World.

«Writing in English is a kind of a new start,» says Till Lindemann, explaining his discovered affinity for foreign languages. « A whole new field in which I can let off steam. It has become very difficult to write German texts today because I have already said almost everything in some form. Everything has already been covered. With Lindemann I'm starting from scratch lyrically. Free choice! An unplayed place waiting to be deflowered. »

The themes dealt with by Lindemann on 'Skills In Pills' don't really differ that drastically from those in his Rammstein texts or his two previously published books: Dark passions, the curse and blessing of various pills, and of course sex in all conceivable ways or form. This time, however, not in German, but with a double dose of deep black humor. « At first I wasn't so sure if the lyrics were really good because they came together so easily. It was too easy compared to the German texts. At Rammstein, six people work in their designated areas. Everyone has their place and their fixed area that they work on. However, you still have to reconcile six different opinions. Of course, this is not always entirely without complications. Nevertheless, we of course also learned a lot from each other. »

Knowledge that Lindemann brings to his solo project today. Until recently, the Berliner focused almost exclusively on his work with the Berlin pyro-metallers, but his urge to express himself seems to become stronger and more unpredictable with each passing year.

« I think it's normal to express yourself in different ways over the years. When you're young and you start a band, you put all your energy into that band. Music, stage shows, artwork, everything. Today everything is better divided so that each of us can concentrate our energies elsewhere. I can already say that this project will be a big part of Peter's and my future together, but my priority will always remain Rammstein. Rammstein is my life. My job, my family. I spend my vacation from this family with Peter. »

Holiday fun with a difference: With loud widescreen guitars, electronic programming and dark, erotic doom prose - switching off in Lindemann style. « It was also nice to travel up to the countryside to see Peter again and again. It only takes about three hours from Berlin and you're there. I visited him 20 or 25 times; even if sometimes it was just for a day. Sometimes he called and said I needed to come in for a quick recording. Then I quickly got on the plane and was there straight away. »

The result of these spontaneous excursions can be heard in the form of the Lindemann debut 'Skills In Pills' from June 19th, 2015. The continuation of the interview with Till Lindemann and Peter Tägtgren can be found in the next issue.

You're not bothering me at all! I'm so happy to have received your question and would love to answer!

I am happy to report that Sonic does NOT hate Chris. In fact, I rewrote Chris's entire character arc to be centered around growing as a brother and as a person. I thought the parallel between him and Eve vs Sonic and Tails would offer many great interactions for Chris to still be inspired by Sonic like in the show, just in a somewhat different way.

Sonic doesn't hate Chris. Not even close. He just cares about both Thorndyke kids and wants to see them be able to have the same kind of relationship he and Tails do.

As we'll see in future chapters, it's a bumpy road. They sometimes get angry with each other and sometimes they make mistakes, but what matters is that they keep trying and keep growing little by little each and every day. They love and care for each other and don't give up and, eventually, we start to see that growth.

I hope this answers your question. I felt VERY strongly about not making Chris as hatable as he normally is because the potential is there. I want him to be someone you all root for!

And he definitely isn't the only one who makes mistakes or has flaws. We'll start getting to that pretty soon...*wink wink*

my take on the silly hedgies………

once again i throw a lazy sketch at yall!! oops!

….anyways i guess i should write abt my headcanons here or smth (that would make sense)

in general,

hedgehogs assigned female at birth grow less fur. their tummies/chests are typically bare as well as their arms, but there’s still a thin layer of velvety fur that blends into the thicker fur around the shoulders and the rest of the body. for beauty reasons, some cis afab hedgies will choose to shave the thin fur so it appears neatly styled. afab hedgies also have naturally occurring downwards-pointed quills that are typically shorter than their amab counterparts, ending around the shoulders or upper back. these can be easily styled into upwards-pointed quills should they choose to.

amab hedgehogs grow more fur and have puffy white chests. their arms and tummies are covered in the same type of fur as the rest of their bodies. as for their quills, they are naturally pointed up and are usually long. if styled downwards, their quills can reach the amab hedgie’s lower back or behind.

taking testosterone can make thicker fur grow on the arms and tummy/chest, among many other side effects. similarly, taking estrogen can thin out coarse fur.

moving on!!

for sonic:

-early to mid 20’s

-goes by he/it pronouns, afab, takes testosterone & has had top surgery

-has autism+adhd, and thanks to trauma from years of fighting — probably riddled with depression or ptsd

-he’s a bit of a clown! sonic likes to make its friends smile, and is really good at cheering others up through humor

-honestly, personality wise, i think of him as being the more mature version we see in the IDW comics or in sonic frontiers. super confident in itself, even if it’s almost guaranteed to be defeated. it will just keep pushing through. this trait can come off as reckless and self-endangering however, and he definitely sits through lectures about this behavior from his loved ones. he is a super high-masking person, and once the mask is on for the day, he finds it very hard to take it back off.

-while it is afraid of being in deeper water, it’s fine taking baths or being in showers and even enjoys reading about fictional creatures that originate from the ocean such as mermaids and sea monsters

-chocolate is just too sweet for him most of the time, but he enjoys a nice pastry or cheesecake

-loves jazzy pop music, alternative rock, 80s music, gentle melodies, and super upbeat EDM. wakes up everyday with a song already playing in its head and thinks of its brain like a radio station that can flip between channels

for shadow,

-older than sonic by a year and a half (not counting the 50 year coma lmao)

-goes by he/they pronouns, afab, used to take T (recently stopped, feels like he doesn’t need it anymore) & has had top surgery

-has autism, dyslexia, generalized anxiety & depression.

-left-handed

-very closed-off individual who finds it very difficult to make new friends. he appears as being very intimidating to people who aren’t familiar with him, especially on days when the flat affect is strong. they’re a pretty serious and literal guy most of the time, but they have their silly goofy moments when around people they really trust and when they’re in the mood for it. they don’t remember much from their past besides the big important parts, and he overthinks about the future a lot, to the point that he can start to cry (in private).

-shadow’s friend group is extremely tight— only sonic, rouge, and omega have been allowed to see underneath the barriers. even despite this, he has trouble opening up to them because he’s afraid of pushing them away or thinks the content he enjoys is too embarrassing to share (even though sonic would go ballistic and enjoy it too, and he knows this, but shadow’s first reaction is still to hide it).

2023 Art Summary

I originally created my blog back in April, but I've decided to jump on the trend and share a compilation of some of my favorite works.

JANUARY

My first attempt at a digital painting style, featuring a character I don't believe I've introduced here before. A reimagining of the Tails Doll, with a Phantom Ruby twist: The Phantom Amalgamation (or Maggie, as my friends call them), made for Project Alacrity. I'll have to get around to redrawing them so they can have a proper introduction.

FEBUARY

Fanart for YouTube creator, Miharu the Fox. Whilst watching one of her streams, I asked what I should draw, with her co-host Marc suggesting that I should "Draw Spyro glitching into the abyss." Seeing that they were playing Spyro Enter the Dragonfly, it seemed only fitting. So I drew him shaking on top of a trapped baby dragon in ice.

MARCH

An attempt at a papercraft style using a tutorial by YouTube user, CariadsCoffee. The character pictured is Squirrelflight (or rather, Squirrelstar) from Warrior Cats, using my own design. Learning this method of drawing is what eventually led to me adopting the lineless style I use in many of my posts.

APRIL

Parody designs of Silver and Blaze, aptly dubbed Pothead and Lighter. They originate from a Sonic 06 parody comic for 4/20 that was written by my friend, @alzikeiswrong , and was illustrated in TuxPaint by me. Whether or not I decide to actually finish and post it is a mystery.

MAY

A post made as a gut reaction to discovering the amount of articulated parts the Jakks Pacific Tails Nine figure had. 70 points of articulation is ridiculous, but man is the figure amazing. I just wish he was to scale with the normal Tails figure.

JUNE

My second attempt at a digital painting, this time featuring Blaze the Cat. Manipulating the flames and how they interacted with Blaze and the background, was a fun challenge, as well as figuring out the textures and posing.

JULY

This is the point when I discovered my lineless style. Specifically the one I use when drawing my fursona, Sapph. Her design has developed a lot over the years, from being a Minecraft X Warrior Cats crossover OC, to slowly rounding out and becoming less Minecraft, gaining new design details in the process, to where she is now.

AUGUST

A drawing of multiple AU designs of Tails for Project Alacrity, socializing at some sort of get together. This was mainly a test to practice how to frame a drawing with multiple characters in it, as well as giving them each something to do. To show the differences between these various different versions of the same core character through their designs and how they interact with one another.

SEPTEMBER

One of the ask answers for my MommyClan cat's ask blog, @stepcousinclawspeaks . Stepcousinclaw was originally created for the fanclan in August, but this panel was one of my favorites. It shows his chaotic and often arsonistic side really well. I'll return to the blog soon for a big story update. Stay tuned!

OCTOBER

October brought with it the Sonic OC Showdown 2, which I had miraculously managed to get my Trace the Tasmanian to participate in. She passed the first round by a close call, but lost by a wide margin in the following. It was a good fight, with a good string of propaganda art coming from me and some of my supporters as a part of the campaign. Thank you all for supporting me while I was a part of it.

NOVEMBER

Whilst exploring through old files, I came across a template I saved. I used it to share the designs I made for various Warriors characters, some who I already had made designs for, and others I had to make up on the spot. One of my favorites was Spottedleaf. The balance of colors and details seem just right to me, as well as being a vast improvement from the color inaccurate one I had made as a ten year old.

DECEMBER

December's was fun. I haven't ever really had a "set style." Every time I try to revisit one specific design I always make something a bit off. Same can be said for this sketch style. I loved doing it. It felt the most accurate to how my art on paper feels as I draw it. Rough around the edges, but lifelike. Sadly I've had a hard time returning to it after dumping out all my thoughts around the 06 AU onto my screen. I've been working on it. There's more to see in the coming year, so I hope you'll stick with me to see how I can grow as a young artist!

WITHIN TEMPTATION To Release New Single, 'A Fool's Parade'

Dutch metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION will release a new single, "A Fool's Parade", on April 5. The track features a guest appearance by the Ukrainian alt-rock/metalcore artist Alex Yarmak, who has been steadily growing his fanbase since 2021.

In a fall 2023 interview with Metal Kaoz, WITHIN TEMPTATION singer Sharon Den Adel spoke about the band's decision to release its latest album, "Bleed Out", independently, having parted ways with the Vertigo label. She said: "I did this participation with [Dutch trance DJ] Armin Van Buuren once — I wrote a song together with him — so we tasted a little bit of the dance music and we saw that they were doing things so differently, knowing him, knowing the scene and starting to watch what they were doing. They were actually just doing it so not traditionally, as in rock music is known for and metal music. So they are way more fluid in when they can release something. They say, 'Oh, I'm gonna write a song and I'm gonna release it two weeks from now.' They can do that. It's because they think differently and it's a different ballgame. And we felt, like, 'Why aren't we doing that? Why are we always restricted to writing a complete album? And then writing certain songs that you feel are essential or in the moment that you have to release now, because if it ends up on the album, three years later, everybody has talked about it; it's not important anymore.' And they're, like, 'Oh my God. Are they still talking about that? That was three years ago.' That really feels stupid to me. And so we told the record company, 'Can we please just release some songs? Because the album's not going to be out there yet, and we're going on tour with EVANESCENCE. And they said, 'No. We can't do that, because we're traditional. We don't know how to cope with that different way of releasing.' And they still had an option for a new album. And we said, 'Well, then we would like to break up the contracts and go our own way.' And they said, 'Well, maybe you should, because we don't see how we can do this with you.' And we were happy they let us go."

She continued: "[2019's] 'Resist' [album from WITHIN TEMPTATION] was very successful for [the record label], but still, I think that they would not have had happy campers in their company with us [being around]. [Laughs] We're not the easiest maybe also. But in the end, it was the best way and I'm really happy it went the way it is. And it gave us the opportunity to do it our own way. On the other hand, it is more work, because we have to hire now people to do the job that a record company normally does. And you have to think about budgets and stuff like that. Who are you gonna do interviews with? How many interviews? Organize press agents all over. It's, like, oh my God. It's a company on its own. But, luckily, we have a management that does take most of that away. Of course, we have to come up with the ideas and give the goals and everything, but they work it out for us. And so we are not involved in that part, because it takes so much energy away from writing music and being creative, of course, which, you as an artist, never want to [deal with]. You just want to [be], like, 'They do that.' And I'm so happy they do that, because they're good at it. And I don't wanna do this. But then, now it's forced upon us again to do those things as well. And it gives you more freedom, and that's what we wanted."

"Bleed Out" signifies a bold leap forward for the band. From contemporary, hard-hitting, and djenty riffs to soaring melodies displaying their symphonic roots, WITHIN TEMPTATION has created a sonic journey that fuses diverse musical styles and thought-provoking themes. This is an album that is as epic as it is unflinchingly outspoken, and now more than ever, this is a band who isn't afraid to make a stand on issues the members care about.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, WITHIN TEMPTATION have shifted their focus from writing about personal emotions and societal subjects to tackling global injustices and reflecting the tumultuous state of the world in a way that other artists seem unable or unwilling to do.

While songs such as "Wireless" and "We Go To War" examine the authoritarian aggression on display in Ukraine and other warzones, the title track itself addresses the plight of women fighting for their rights in Iran after the murder of Mahsa Amini.

The album also grapples with the complex issues around a woman's right to choose in recent single "Don't Pray For Me" and throughout, this impassioned and political focus is reflected in the intensity and heaviness of the music. More King Arthur Yuu featuring the Others Yuus (Sayian Fusion Yuu, Sonic Yuu, Bayonetta Yuu and Lolita Yuu)

In my opinion, Yuu probably has the best educators in the world that could teach them, but they still choose to go to NRC.

King Arthur Yuu definitely hangs out with Sonic Yuu and Sayian Fusion Yuu for fun. They're best friends, your honor. Bayonetta Yuu is kind of the reluctant mom of the group and Lolita Yuu just likes to watch their antics with the First Years.

Sonic Yuu carries King Arthur Yuu around bridal style whenever he and King Arthur Yuu need to get somewhere fast. Whether it's to corner store or to NRC, it's just bridal carry between the two.

Sayian Fusion Yuu is more of a friend that's knight/bodyguard for King Arthur Yuu. They're more vigilant than normal guards as well.

He's not used to dressing this fancy, but hey, beats getting gaslighted by Crowley. He probably started on swordsmanship and is working on being a knight for King Arthur Yuu.

I can see her wearing something definitely like this. She probably has judo classes for King Arthur Yuu, so that way they can defend themselves.

Yuuya

I don't know too much about him, but I think he'll appreciate a more simplistic style than outrageous one. Probably a student still, but lives in definitely better conditions.

I totally see Arthur, Sabian Fusion and Sonic as best friends, they do the dumbest shit together. The got Sonic stuck in a bush once.

Bayonetta totally is that mom friend we love that. Lolita is that big sister that laughs but helps you out from getting in trouble with mom.

Sonic and a few others have the honor of carrying Arthur around. Sayian is the head guard since Arthur fully trusts then with everything.

ALSO I LOVE THE OUTFITS THEY TOTALLY FIT ALL THE DIFFERENT YUU'S!!

As much as I love the art style of the idw comics, I hate how they portray Shadow in it. Granted, Shadow can be proud at times, they still portray him to be a bit too arrogant.

The one thing I really dislike that doesn't get talked about enough is when Shadow and Sonic fight over redeeming Eggman. Sonic then says that Shadow tried to destroy earth and you could say that he was comparing Shadow's actions to that of Eggman's.

Eggman destroys and hurts people because he can and he wants to. He does it so that he can take over the world. He wants and craves power and authority.

Shadow's memories were altered. He lost probably the only friend who treated him like a normal being rather than a science experiment. He lost Maria and was grieving when Eggman found him. And the last thing he remembers is Maria telling him to get revenge (memory alteration by gerald). While, I am not saying that what Shadow did was right, he atleast didn't try to hurt anybody because he wanted power or authority. And the people who were responsible for Maria's death attacked the ark because they were Greedy and power hungry.

Atleast Shadow redeems himself properly. He helps those around him while still carrying the memories of the time he tried to hurt civilians. He is trying to be a better person. He isn't ignoring his past mistakes or hasn't forgotten them and is growing from that. As soon as he trained his memories, he tried to save earth. Granted that is what Maria wanted but he could have chose to not follow through with his promise to her. He could have let the world burn but he didn't.

Suppose the zombot arc didn't happen and Eggman stayed an amnesiac, that still doesn't feel like an earned redemption. As soon as he got his memories back, he tried to hurt everyone again. He could have chose to redeem himself but he didn't.

Sonic comparing the two annoyed me because they aren't alike. Shadow will always be a better person than eggman could ever think of being.

In honor of me finally catching up with all of IDW and no longer fearing spoilers, I can finally give this ask a long overdue answer! Better late than never, right?

As for the ask itself...oh, thank God someone else feels the same way I do about that interaction. It’s no secret that I don’t like how Shadow behaves in IDW, but I normally like IDW Sonic.

But the way he treated Shadow in issue #6 was inexcusable.

Under the cut: spoilers for IDW #6 and beyond, as well as harsh but fair (IMO) criticism of Sonic’s behavior in that issue. I am...passionate about this.

As is often the case, Sonic and Shadow are at each other’s throats once again due to their opposing philosophies. They both have valid reasons, and neither is 100% right. I’m mostly on Sonic’s side here, but he’s uncharacteristically naive about the situation.

That’s one way to describe a murderous villain bent on taking over the world at the expense of countless innocent lives, I guess.

Eggman played a part in compensating for his own terrible deeds in SA2, likely so he could have a home to come back to and conquer. Self-serving from start to finish. Meanwhile, Shadow nearly lost his life saving the human race, despite their role in his traumatic, tragic past, all because two pure-hearted young girls asked him to.

Nice of you to bring up one of the most confusing, painful parts of Shadow’s life like that, just to point out the wonderful role Eggman played in protecting his claim on the Earth so he could conquer it later himself. Again. Couldn’t help but notice you skipped the way Shadow...

Was forced to relive the traumatizing memories of the humans murdering his best friend

Was nearly shot by a man who falsely accused him of massacring a space station full of humans, including said best friend

Was pulled in a million directions by people he barely knew when he didn’t even know who he was

Turned against his own species (the Black Arms) and personally enacted a genocide against them all to save the world and the humans AGAIN despite all that. I see no way this couldn’t have negatively impacted him on some level

Oh, and Eggman? He cloned an army of Shadows without his consent and took advantage of Shadow’s identity crisis to convince him he was an android Eggman had created

Really, Sonic? Because I recall him leaving you alone until you made a point of picking a fight. Did you forget he was brainwashed that entire time - by a man who called Shadow his own son, no less?

You know full well Shadow’s more than earned his redemption. You could have argued your actual point, but instead, you chose to guilt Shadow with a cheap shot for things he either wasn’t responsible for or has already grown past. This is in a world where he’s judged as a villain by the very people he was created to protect. Shadow’s a hero in a way Sonic can’t even fathom. Sonic’s always been beloved by all but the worst villains. He will never, ever understand what it’s like to protect humans who’d lock him up forever at the first opportunity (proof: Sonic 06). I’d argue Shadow’s the biggest hero in this franchise for that reason, and someone who’d sincerely compare him to Doctor Eggman at the end of the day could never appreciate that.

It takes a lot to make me side with IDW Shadow. I still don’t agree with his plan to kill Mr. Tinker, but it absolutely kills me to see him cave so quickly while Sonic has this smug smirk on his face, as if he’s right and Shadow’s wrong and that’s all there is to it. They agree to follow Sonic’s plan entirely, no compromise, not even doing the bare minimum of stationing a scout in Windmill Village to keep an eye on Mr. Tinker.

At least Shadow got to slam the door in his face. Sassiest use of Chaos Control to date. A+.

Sonic’s usually solid in IDW, but he gets preachy here and there IMO, particularly when it comes to forgiveness. Virtually every problem has been caused or exacerbated by him giving villains a slap on the wrist and taking no further precautions. There were times in the past where Sonic was more on the level of “I won’t kill you, but I don’t have to save you, either.” I miss that sometimes.

This might be predictable coming from me, but I wish Amy could’ve been there. Partly because she’s a good judge of character and she might’ve been able to talk some sense into Sonic, but also because I would love to see someone stand up for Shadow, to back him up with the righteous indignation he deserves. I can picture her turning on Sonic for this.

“HOW DARE YOU TALK TO HIM LIKE THAT! SHADOW’S ONE OF THE BRAVEST HEROES WE’VE EVER MET!”

Shadow deserves that validation, and Amy’s passion would make her perfect for the job.

It also would’ve been nice if Rouge had followed them up the hill instead of waiting down in the village. I doubt Sonic would’ve dared to say any of this with her around.

Side note: Eggman may not have earned the forgiveness he got from his memory loss, but the loving people of that village absolutely deserved everything Mr. Tinker did for them. I’m still legitimately upset that we lost that.

5:34 p.m. at the Smash Mansion's Living Room.........

Shadow: (Sitting Next to the Snatcher on the Sofa While Wearing the Phantom of Opera Costume) Not interested.

Snatcher: Oh come on, man. You'll be a perfect candidate for the job! (Leans in and Whispers into Shadow's Ears) Hell, if you do a good enough job and not die, I'll might be generous enough to make you twice as powerful than you are already~

Shadow: (Slowly Pushes the Snatcher's Face Away From his Ear) Again, I'll pass. I'm not in desperate need of any power, nor I want to be associated with a shameless con artist like you.

Snatcher: (Glares at Shadow) Hey, that's shamelessly negotiator to you, pal! (Crosses his Arms While Turning Away) 'Been in this business for eons now and I never ONCE done a scam of any kind.

Shadow: (Rolls his Eyes) Tell that to your so called "employees", if you even still have any left....

Snatcher: ('Tch') Please. I have plenty left. I mean, I had to let a few chumps go here and there.

Meanwhile

Countless upon countless souls are screaming on the top of their lungs in agony, as they continously fall down into a nightmarish filled abyss.

The Snatcher looks up to see Peach, dress in her Sword Fighter costume glaring down at the shadowy figure.

Peach: Snatcher.

Snatcher: (Casually Waves to Peach) Hey there, your highness. (Makes the Contract Disappear with the Snap of his Finger) How's it going?

Peach: Oh, I'm doing fine. Just getting ready for Halloween. And making sure you're not trying anything suspicious in here with my son.

Snatcher: Oh will you relax? Shadie and I were only having a normal conversation here.

Shadow: Don't ever call me that.

Peach: That's right. (Points at Herself) Only WE'RE allowed to call him that!

Shadow: NO ONE is allow call me that. Ever.

Peach: (Place her Hand on her Chest as her Eyes Starts Sparkling a Little) Even me?~

Shadow: Yes, mother, even you. Nicknames like that doesn't fit my style and image all that well.

Snatcher: But using a gun is? When you're supposed to be this all mighty Ultimate Lifeform that you pobably made up to make yourself look cool-

Shadow: (Pushes the Snatcher's Face Away From Him Once More) Anywho.....

Snatcher: QUIT DOING THAT!!

Shadow: (Turns Back to Peach) Has sister and father got themselves ready yet?

Peach: (Turns Away While Grabbing her Chin) I'm not sure. It's been a few minutes since I've last checked up on- (Eyes and Mouth Begins to Widened at What is in Front of Her) t-t-t-t-t-them?~

Shadow and Snatcher and turns to see Mario slowly walking into the room wearing a bright red dress and long, brown hair while carrying a parasol in his hands, much to their surprise.

Mario: Greetings, one and all~ A wonderful evening we're having, is it not?~

Snatcher: ......Huh.

Peach: (Almost at a Loss For Words) Mario.....I-Is that really you?

Mario: (Flips his Hair to Side in an Elegant Fashion) Indeed it is, my dear hero!~ I figured it would be fitting for Hat Kid and I to play the role as princesses for the night.

Hat Kid: (Happily Reveals Herself From Behind Mario While Wearing a Purple Dress of her Own) Ta-Da!~

Peach: (Eyes Starts Sparkling Again as She Places her Hands Onto Both her Cheeks and Proceeds to Gush at the Elegent Duo) Oh my gosh, you two are the most loveliest princesses ever!~

Shadow: I couldn't say it any better myself really.

Snatcher: Can't believe I'm saying this, but you two don't look half bad.

Mario: (Smiles Brightly) Why, thank you~ (Pushes Up the Side of his Hair While Hat Kid Gimmicks his Movements) It's not everyday you get to be as divine and delicate as the two of us right now~

Hat Kid: (Nodded in Agreement) Uh-huh~

Snatcher: (Puts on a Deadpinned Look on his Face) I wouldn't go that far......

Sonic: (Quickly Rushes Himself Inside While Wearing a Thriller's Costume) Hey, guys, I- (Eyes Begins to Widened at What In Front of his Point of View) Woah. Dad, is that really you?

Mario: Indeed it is~ I am but a humble, fairest princess in this very mansion. (Puts on an Elegant Like Pose) Impressive, no?~

Sonic: (Chuckles Lightly) Yeah, you great. (Turns to Hat Kid) You too, sis. Love the tiara.

Hat Kid: (Smiles Brightly) Thank you!~

Sonic: (Starts Shaking his Head Before Going Back on Topic) A-Anyways, we have a bit of problem right now.

Mario: (Eyes Widened a Bit) You do? What is it?

Peach: And where's Amy? Is she okay?

Sonic: Yeah, she's fine. She here with me, in fact. But uhh....Something happened along the way and....You might wanna see this.

Sonic walks over to the door as everyone else follows behind.

'Door Opens'

Peach: Amy, is everything okay out- ('Gasps') Oh my gosh!

Amy: (Nervously Does a Little Jazz Hands in her '80s Rockstar Outfit....as a Werehog) Surprise.........

Mario: (Eyes Widened at What is in Front of Him and the Others) Amy, you became a werehog now?

Snatcher: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) A were what now?

Shadow: A werehog. They're hedgehog's version of werewolves but more bulker in comparison. (Turns Back to Amy) How were you able to gain access to that transformation in first place?

Mario: Yeah, I thought only Sonic could do that.

Amy: (Sighs Heavily While Flailing her Arms Down) I don't knoooow!.....One minute I was getting myself ready for treak-or-treating tonight and the next I was turned to THIS.....big, dumb, HIDEOUS thing!!

Sonic: (Softly Glares at his Girlfriend as He Gently Grabs Hold to One of her Hands) Hey! Amy, we've been over this. Nothing about you is stupid or hideous.

Peach: (Firmly Nodded in Agreement) He's right. You're just as wonderful as you've always been regardless of what you look like. (Gently Place her Hand Onto Amy's Shoulfer) Now, just take a deep and calm yourself down a bit. We'll figure something out.

Amy: (Does as She Was Told and Takes a Very Deep Breath) Right. I'm sorry, it just.....This has been stressing me out since we left the house to get here and I couldn't think straight since.

Shadow: (Casually Shrugs) I wouldn't worry too much about it really. It does tend to happen to the best of us on some occasions.

Amy: True. (Lower her Ears Down a Bit) I just don't wanna end up ruining the night for everyone here.........

Mario: You're not going to ruin anything tonight, not even us.

Sonic: Yeah, and anyone who has a problem with you will have me to answer. I'll always have your back 100%, Ames.

Amy: (Heart Begins to Melt as She Pulls her Boyfriend into a Very Loving Hug) Oh Sonic, I love you so freaking much!~

Sonic: (Winces a Bit in Pain Before Smiling a Bit) Yeah. Love you too, Ames.

Peach lowers herself down and starts whispering into Mario's ear for a couple of seconds before the two nodded in agreement as the supposed princess in red begins to rush back inside with the bottom front of his dress lifted up a little.

Amy: Mr. Mario?

Peach: (Gives Amy a Reassuring Smile on her Face) Will be back in a sec, dear. In meantime, just try and keep staying calm for us, ok?

Amy: ('Sigh') Yes, ma'am.

Snatcher: Ah cheer up there, kid. Look on the bright side. With that new werehog form of yours, you could be able to scare people into giving you free candy. You like candy, right?

Amy: I mean, there's a select few I like, yeah. But I don't wanna get in the habit of scaring them too much, you know?

Snatcher: Hey, I get it. Self-control is important and whatnot. Though, if you ever feel the need putting it to good use, you could just.....('Clicks') Oh I dunno~ (Summons a Piece a Paper Once Again with a Sinister Grin on his Face) Sign this perfectly made contract riiight he-

Peach: (Quickly Gets in Front of Amy Along with Everyone Else) DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, SNATCHER!

Soic: Keep your contacts away from my girlfriend, pal.

Shadow: We're not doing this tonight.

Hat Kid: Bad Snatcher.

As everyone follow through with her request, the heroine in blue takes a very deep breath before taking one bite off of the fruit she's holding as she begins to transform into a pink colored elephant.

Everyone (with the exception of Shadow) cheers in rejoice as the door begins to close behind them, leaving Bowser in his pitiful lonesome.
