Do you watch anime? There's a lot of good ones out there. I stay away from the fandoms for the most part, but I like fanart sometimes. I feel like you would be one to like a lot of them and even give some healthy fandom energy. Thank you :D
I actually used to be really into anime. I even joined an anime club back in college (1st go-round) and designed its posters and a t-shirt! But since then I haven't been as connected to the anime scene as I used to. No real reason, I've just been interested in other things. Currently I'm only in the middle of one, MHA, but I stay as far away from the fandom as possible. I'm open to watching more, because a good show is a good show, but anime in general doesn't consume my thoughts as it used to. If you have an anime recommendation, I'd love to hear it, though I can't promise I'll watch it any time soon. Life gets in the way, you know.
I'm flattered to hear you say I'd have healthy fandom energy, but considering what different people think constitutes as "healthy" in fandom these days, you'll forgive me for being a little wary. Fandom in general has gone downhill the last few years, and I have to say this toxicity was not as prevalent in the past. But, in my experience, the best ways to have a good fandom experience is to stay in your lane, only look for things that you enjoy, and block things you don't want to see. I live by this now, and I'm healthier for it.

If we wanted to keep a Goddess Allura ending while keeping Allurance, what about if we had a version that was like Ponyo (sorry, I don't know if you've seen it), where Fujimoto is a human with special powers who is in a relationship with the ocean goddess. She can change size, she visits him, they have kids and everything, but she's still off being a goddess most of the time. Possible ending for Allurance?
Yeah I’ve seen Ponyo! An ending like that would’ve been very sweet~

As It Was
On a stormy night, Bolin is haunted by his former days of homelessness and abandonment, until Opal reminds him of how far he’s come. Based on @theorangestar comic about Bolin not liking storms until their child is born on a stormy night.
No one on this godforsaken website cares about Bopal content so I’ve taken it upon myself to create more.
I’m also opening up requests so please send me your ATLA/LoK prompts or anything else you might have in mind!!
Read it on AO3 Here
It was storms that took Bolin back to the streets of Republic City. He laid awake, listening to the rain striking the window and thunder cracking across the sky, even as Opal curled into his side and Ryu dozed in the adjacent room. Lightning forked across the night, accompanied by a blast of wind that rattled the house to its foundation. Bolin pressed himself into the mattress and tried to focus on the beating of his heart, but to no avail. Thunder rolled through the darkness and once again he was huddled in a half-rotted crate with Mako, deep within the maze of alleys and winding streets that make up the city’s poorest district.
“It’s just thunder, Bolin,” Mako said. Flames danced at his fingertips, and fear ebbed at the edge of his voice. “Nothing to worry about, we’re okay.”
Bolin buried his face into Mako’s scarf. He took a deep breath, hoping to push beyond the mildew and grime and find the musty scent of his father that always seemed to hide in the fabric’s folds.
The wind picked up and Bolin squeezed his eyes shut. “Mako, what if we live like this forever?” he asked.
A great boom ripped across the night sky. Mako’s flame faltered, and he pulled Bolin further into the corner of the box. “It won’t be like that, I promise.”
“How do you know?” Bolin said. Tears were welling in his eyes.
Mako hesitated. The wind continued to scream and the rain beat against the outside of the crate. “I just know,” Mako finally replied.
He started to cry now. Bolin could hardly remember his parents. They existed only as disembodied voices, a pair of hands reaching for him or a face just out of his memory’s reach, but he wanted them.
“Bolin?” Opal’s voice jolted him back to reality. She was awake.
“Opal,” Bolin said, caressing her cheek. Her hair was mussed and her eyes bleary with sleep, but the sight of her still made his heart leap in his chest.
“It’s late, is everything okay?” she asked.
He shifted, “Um, yeah, just couldn’t sleep.”
“You’re using that weird tone again,” Opal said, focusing her gaze on Bolin. “What’s going on?”
Bolin sighed and sat up. “I’m thinking about when Mako and I were homeless again.”
“Oh, Bolin,” Opal said. She moved to his side and put a hand on top of his, moving her fingers in slow circles over his skin. “You want to tell me about it?”
“It was just so lonely,” he said. “Mako took care of me, but he was a kid, too, and there was only so much he could do. When storms rolled in, we were just stranded in the cold and rain. I just wanted warmth, shelter, safety, something we could hold on to.”
Opal hummed and brushed her fingers up his arm and over his shoulder, bringing them to rest at the nape of his neck. She played with the hair there as Bolin exhaled and leaned into her touch.
“We’ve made other memories on stormy nights since then,” she said.
“Hm?” Bolin replied, closing his eyes as Opal’s fingers brushed his cheek and jaw.
She smiled, “Remember when Ryu was born?”
Bolin’s heart lifted. He could still smell the sea as he steered Juicy over the churning waters of Yue Bay in the dead of night. Opal was behind him, groaning from her contractions, and rain was pouring over them. Air Temple Island was just ahead, and despite every bone in his body screaming to go back, to give up on the midwife Pema recommended and thousands of years of Air Nomad tradition, he plowed ahead. He spent the night at Opal’s side as she cried out and crushed his hand in hers and the storm roared on. It finally broke at dawn, just as the first rays of sun were peeking over the horizon and his son was born.
Bolin took Ryu in his arms, squeezing himself into the narrow space beside Opal at the edge of her bed. Their friends and family were too numerous to fit in the room, and instead took turns fawning over the baby and loitering in the hall.
When it was Mako’s chance, he knelt beside the bed and Bolin passed him his nephew. As he cradled Ryu, the stoic mask he’d worn for years finally slipped, and Mako cried.
“That might’ve been the best day of my life,” Bolin said as the memory faded.
Opal laughed, “Might’ve been? What are the other contenders?”
“The day I married you,” Bolin answered, grinning.
A cry sounded from the next room.
Opal slipped out of bed and moved towards the door, “Ryu’s awake.” A moment later she returned with the baby and settled beside Bolin. He had stopped crying, and instead gazed at them with wide, moss-colored eyes.
“Not scared of storms too, I hope,” Bolin says as he took Ryu in his arms.
Opal smiled and leaned against his shoulder, “I think he just missed his daddy.”
Bolin pulled Ryu to his chest as he cooed softly. “You mind if we keep him in here tonight? With us?” he asked.
“I think that would be great,” Opal replied. She leaned over to brush a strand of inky hair from Ryu’s face and placed a kiss on Bolin’s cheek.
“It’s late and you have to be at the air temple in the morning,” he reminded her. “We should get to bed.”
“I know,” Opal sighed. “I just love watching you two together, you’re a great dad.”
Bolin’s heart swelled at the compliment. He shifted Ryu to the crook of his arm and with his free hand brought Opal towards him to press his lips to hers.
They pulled apart and Opal took Ryu from him, tucking him in the space between them. Bolin laid down, watching as Opal settled into place and the rise and fall of her chest evened into the steady rhythm of sleep.
The storm had died down, and all that could be heard was raindrops pattering outside. He felt something stir beside him, and looked down to see Ryu against his chest. His days of hiding on the streets with no one but Mako at his side were long over, he realized. He’d built the family he’d longed for during those nights, and with them he no longer had to weather the storm alone.

I know that this is probs such a small thing and not a lot of poeple care...but Juicy, Opal's sky bison- why did they make him have allergies (or an illness) and not say why or explain why Opal took him under her care. I know it's that whole thing with "when a bison chooses you, you are partners for life...". However, it just seemed so random and unnecessary since it didn't add anything to the plot of Opal as a character. Like, they didn't really use it for a comic relief, since the only time they mention it is when Toph meets Opal for the first time in years and only says Juicy smells more than Appa and Opal saying she tried to get rid of him. I guess it was meant for kicks and giggles, but it raised more questions than laughs for me. I just needed to rant about it bc I do not understand their thoughts process.
My HC is that Opal take him to a vet or something and they get his illness under control with the right diet or something and he lived illness free for the rest of his days.
While I also didn't like how they handled poor Juicy, I do think it showed just a bit about Opal's character, which is that she's not as sweet and nurturing as many in the fandom think she is. She's a Beifong after all, and if she's anything like her mom, aunt, or grandma, then it makes sense that she wasn't enthusiastic about Juicy as a partner at first. It is weird though that this was a one-time joke and then never referenced again. I guess he's always like that? Poor thing can't breathe!
My personal head canon is that Juicy suffers from allergies, and whatever bison vet they've got on hand is able to help him. I mean, they've got to have someone who's an expert in these things, right?

Hi there! Would you consider doing an comic on Eruption?
I haven't considered this before. A full comic of the whole story? I don't think so. That's my longest non-anthology story to date, and it would take me forever.
Some quick individual shots from the story? ...Maybe. This seems much more doable for me, but at this very moment I don't have the time. I'm about to start up a new semester, and I've been working on a personal project for my sibling, and I told myself that I wouldn't make any fan art until the project is finished. I've already put it off too long, and it's not fair to him. (And before anyone asks, I won't be posting anything from that project.)
But I will keep this in mind.

Hey, you like pokemon right? I have always wondered about the pokemon eggs. Like why can't they tell which pokemon that is inside until it has hatched??? That doesn't make sense. I can understand if they found an egg in the wild without any other pokemon present that it can be harder to pinpoint what kind of pokemon that is exactly. But if they find an egg in a pikachu heard, wouldn't they just think that; that is an egg that will eventually hatch a pikachu. Or can like pikachu lay bulbasaur eggs and vice versa?? Biologically, that doesn't make sense lol. Thank you so much!!!
I'm in desperate need of a distraction, so I thank for you this question, Anon. This may be more than you asked for. Everyone buckle up, I'm about to tell you everything I know about Pokemon Eggs and breeding.
If you found a herd of Pikachu out in the wild and they had an egg, it's a safe guess that it would hatch into a Pichu, but not necessarily. The ingame mechanics for breeding divide Pokemon into different "egg groups," and any Pokemon within the same egg group can breed with each other. Sometimes these make sense (most of the bird pokemon can mate with each other) or they can make no sense at all (Skitty and Wailord being the most famous example). However, in most cases*, the same rule applies: the baby Pokemon will be the same Pokemon or in the same evolutionary line as the mother, while the father can be the same species or a different species in that same egg group. Usually the father gives the baby a special move or something instead. So in that Pikachu example, as long as the mother was a Pikachu (or a Raichu), then the egg will hatch a Pichu.
*(A Ditto can breed with any Pokemon except the Baby class, other Ditto, and almost all legendaries, so if you don't have a female, the Ditto would be the mother and the egg would hatch a Pokemon the same species as the father. The exception to THIS rule is Phione, which is the baby of a Ditto and Manaphy.)
Now, in the mainline games, you never just come across a random egg in the wild. Usually the first egg you receive in the game is given to you by a Daycare worker or some other special NPC, and it's a toss up as to which Pokemon will hatch, depending on the game, but it's always a Baby Pokemon. (e.g. Pichu, Wynaut, Mime Jr., etc). To get an egg otherwise, you leave two breedable Pokemon at the Daycare/Nursery for a while, then come back later and the daycare workers will give you an egg and say, "Your Pokemon get along really well. By the way, we just found this egg and don't know where it came from! Here you go!" This is because your player character is around 10-12 years old, and Game Freak does not want to give its players the sex talk.
Here's where the games and anime differ. In the games, all the eggs look alike. They're off-white with green spots. If you lined up a bunch of eggs in a row, you'd have no clue which Pokemon would hatch from which. However, in the anime, especially in the early days, the eggs would have the same color scheme or pattern as the Pokemon inside. An Eevee egg has the same brown and tan as an Eevee. A Cyndaquil egg is dark with red oval spots, just like a Cyndaquil. Togepi is still wearing its shell. The Phanpy egg is just plain blue, but you can still tell it apart from other eggs. There's little-to-no guessing. However, as the series went on, the eggs changed to look more like their in-game counterparts, but maybe the spots changed color to match the Pokemon inside. You'd still have to be told what Pokemon was inside, but you could guess. (Please note I have not seen every episode of Pokemon ever).
Games like Pokemon GO however do just have random eggs that you find, and those Pokemon are a complete surprise, and the colors of the spots just indicate how long you have to walk to hatch it. I know other games like Pokemon Snap have eggs too, but I've never played them so I don't know how they work.
Thank you for coming to my PokeTalk! :D

When do you think Mako, Bolin, Korra and Asami's birthday's dates are, and how they like to celebrate?
I won't pick a specific date for any of them, since the Avatar world probably has their own calendar that we know nothing about, so I'll only guess the seasons.
I firmly believe that Bolin is smack-dab in the middle of spring. Asami I'm guessing is early to mid fall. Now, the canon lore says that benders are most often born in the season corresponding to their element, but that's not the only time babies are born benders. So traditionally Mako would be in summer and Korra in winter, but I actually think it's the opposite. Mako was in winter, and Korra was in summer. I like the idea of them being opposite in most ways than the average person expects.
So celebrations.
Bolin. Loves. Parties. As a kid on the streets neither brother really got to do much for their birthday, although they would each try to make the day special for each other. But once they're adults and have real stability, Bolin decides to make up for all the fun he's missed out on. He has a big get-together with as many friends and family as he can invite. Loud music, drinking, party games, cake with frosting in outrageous colors, the whole nine yards. He'll crash early the next morning and will complain about how tired or hungover he is, but he won't consider doing anything different.
Mako is very opposite. He doesn't want a big production made about him, but he's brothers with Bolin, so there will inevitably be some form of production. Usually he'll get his favorite meal for lunch, treat himself to a crepe or something sweet for dessert, then spend the evening at his apartment with his close family and friends with drinks and soft music, just talking and having a good time. If there's a particularly good play performing that year, Bolin and Asami will drag him to watch. Bolin will go see anything, but Asami usually has good taste. Korra only goes under protest.
Asami probably grew up with Hiroshi throwing her lavish parties, complete with petting zoos, entertainers, go-cart racing (since Asami would be too young for a real car). However, I don't think Asami had many friends growing up. Any kids at these parties were probably the kids of other CEOs and politicians who were only there because Hiroshi knew their parents. As an adult, she's toned it down a lot. No more petting zoos, no entertainers (unless someone else hired them as a surprise), and with her actual friends as guests. She still races her cars. Maybe she goes to the spa in the afternoon. But everyone's invited to dinner at her place, and yeah, things are toned down from when she was a kid, but this is Asami Sato. It's still the most expensive and lavish food money can buy. She says "Oh I just want a nice quiet dinner with my friends," as if she didn't just spend a sports car's worth of money on liquid nitrogen ice cream and gold leaf.
Korra has a complicated relationship with her birthday. Just by how the avatar works, the day she was born was the day Aang died. Most of the people in her life knew him personally or are greatly inspired by him. For most, it's a day of mourning, so as a kid, it's also the only day Katara doesn't come to visit the compound, even if she does leave a gift. However, it's one of the few days her parents get to visit. They spend the whole day together, just the three of them and Naga, until she's a little older and she's allowed to go into town with a White Lotus escort. Once she's in Republic City, there's more widespread mourning of Aang, especially on Air Temple Island. It's rough for a while there, especially for Tenzin, but eventually it comes to be that the family mourns Aang in the morning and celebrates Korra's birthday in the evening. Korra feels weird for mourning Aang every year, since in a way it's mourning herself, so she usually spends the morning outside the city with Naga just enjoying nature. Her parties are like Bolin's but more lowkey.

Hi, I am rewatching LoK and am happy to have rediscovered your blog!! I was wondering if you remembered/knew of a tumblr blog that posted quite a few Mako and Bolin fics - one was told from the perspective of Tenzin waking up in the middle of the night to fetch persimmons for Pema (idk why I remember this) and the brothers were comforting each other after a nightmare?? Also an unfinished fic about their time in the Triads? Don't worry if not, I am going mad trying to find them! Thanks!!
WOW, I just fell down a rabbit hole looking for that. I tore through at least three or four blogs looking, (one is deleted, the other two don't do LoK anymore), and I went through AO3 and FF.net, but I couldn't find them. The first one definitely rang a bell in my head, which led me to those specific blogs, but no luck. And I do remember reading a fanfic about Bolin and Mako with the triad, and it was unfinished at the time, but that by itself is too vague. There's dozens of stories like that now. I'm really sorry I couldn't find those for you, but I gave it my best shot.

Do you think you will start uploading your bopal fics again? I would love to read something bopal-centric. The fandom doesnt really care for them, which i hate since Bolin is my fave out of them all. I looked though your blog and you said you had a writing block (?) That sucks big time. Anyway, it's still super cool of you to answers question about LOK and what not. Have a good day!
I have one bopal fic and one bending brothers fic that are written but unedited. Towards the beginning of the pandemic my computer crapped out on me, and I had to save what I could to an external hard drive and transfer it to my new computer, but I can't remember where that stuff is saved.
I did have a whole other list of ideas for bopal fics that I wrote down, but I'm going to be honest, I haven't participated much in the lok fandom for a while now. Part of it is the writer's block, part of if is that I've moved to other fandoms since then, and part of it was the burnout from my job. A lot of factors have kept me from getting all those ideas done like I originally wanted to.
I do plan on editing the bopal fic and posting it at some point. The bending bros fic I need to reread and maybe rewrite some parts, since I wasn't sure I was happy with it at the time. I don't know if I'll ever get to all those other bopal ideas I had. But I'll still answer questions about LOK and ATLA if people want to ask them. :)

do you think Ming-Hua lost her arms when the Red Lotus attacked Korra the first time in her childhood?? But maybe it also was before, since she is very experienced with moving and bending without arms...Like, she said, there isn't a lot of water in an active volcano, so I don't think she would had the time to learn it the few weeks they hunted Korra down in S3
Oh it was definitely before the kidnapping attempt, for sure. She was kept away for years in an active volcano with probably only enough water to keep her alive, that's not enough to practice and get really good at making arms. And when the Red Lotus showed up and gave her enough water, she scaled that volcano like she'd been doing it for years. (And I know Zaheer was suddenly super good at airbending despite only having it for such a short time, but he's the boss villain so he's special). Also, I feel like if she lost her arms in the kidnapping attempt, the White Lotus might not have gone to the same extremes for her prison because they would have assumed she wouldn't be able to bend anymore, or at least not well. She's the only bender we've ever seen with missing limbs (Except Combustion Man, who only bended with his mind) so it's probably not common enough for the White Lotus to take into account that she could teach herself. To put her in a volcano, they had to have known she could do that.
So now the question is, did she used to have arms and they were amputated/blown off/etc, or was she born without arms? How long did it take for her to learn how to waterbend without them? There's probably chi blockage going on if they were lost, but we don't know.

Im watching ATLA again and you know Jet's parents got killed when he was 8 yr like Mako. it made him so, so bitter over the world that he was down with sacrificing innocent lives just to get back at the fire nations soldier. And it made me realise that that would have been Mako too if Bo never was there with him. Mako might not never go the the extreme as jet did, but he would defiantly turn bitter and resentful towards the world. Some people probably also had that realisation. Have a nice day!
You are absolutely right. While I don’t think Mako would have turned out exactly like Jet (Jet is more of a people person and understands manipulation. Mako just doesn’t think like that), I do think he had the potential to go really dark. He probably would have become a major triad member, someone very dangerous. But I agree that because of Bolin, Mako was saved from going too deep. Jet had no one and set his sights on revenge. With Bolin around, Mako’s main goal was to protect him, and he’d do only what was necessary to keep his brother safe. Once pro-bending became an option, Mako had no hesitation in leaving the triad life behind, since he knew it’d be better for Bolin in the long run. Bolin is a beacon of light in the darkness for Mako.

More thoughts on real colorblind bolin and maybe a funny little drabble on it?
Sorry, I’m not doing drabbles currently. I don’t have the energy. Maybe someday.
Like I’ve said before, I’m not color blind, so I don’t really have many headcanons for this because I don’t know what it’s like. From what I can guess, Bolin would have protanopia, which is red-green color blindness. He mostly sees yellows, browns, and blues. He first realized this when as a kid his mom would ask him to bring over his clothes (which were mostly green) for the laundry, but he’d accidentally bring over Mako’s, which were red. (this depends on the shades, of course.)
For personal taste, he wears very neutral colors, but he smiles and nods when Opal and Asami insist on dressing him in green, since they say it’s his best color. But in terms of decorating, he loves using contrasting lights and darks and crazy patterns like zigzags. He has the most eye bleeding curtains, but he thinks they’re snazzy.
One time, due to Spirit World shenanigans, Bolin ends up separated from his body in the spirit world for a very short time. But because color blindness is caused by the body, not the mind, he can see full color when his spirit is in the spirit world. The first thing he sees is a mushroom, and he screams because it’s purple and he’s never seen purple before, whAT IS HAPPENING?! Once Korra and Jinora sort things out and get him back in his body, everyone thinks he’s had such a traumatizing experience, but really he’s just so overwhelmed at purple.

That's what i tried to convey in my ask. I have no problem with bolin jumping from career to career and figuring out where he fits. But it really just seems like they never know what to do with him each season and in the comics. Being an assistant doenst suit him. I feel like bolin is more a person that likes to see the result immidently and not in the long run. they havent really been too clear what movies him since they always just use him for comic relief purposes.
I definitely agree. I find this very common across a lot of media like LoK. No one knows how to write comic relief characters as anything more than punchlines. And any time they touch on something that could lead to some real character growth and exploration, it gets ignored or used as the joke. Maybe if LoK had been planned from beginning to end all at once like AtLA, then they could have found time to really delve into Bolin’s thoughts, feelings, and motivations. If they can do that for Sokka, they can do it for Bolin. But since LoK was made on a season renewal basis, I guess they decided that wasn’t as important. :/

kinda wished there were more Bolin-centric works around here in the fandom. I even feel like those that focuses on Bolin always gets turned over to be about Mako in some way...if you get what i mean. Anyway, I like your works about bolin. He's the best and it nice to see someone that seems like they see he as his own person (or character) and not just mako's brother. Nice for someone like me who project a lot of myself to bolin, and not see it being brushed away. Thanks and have a nice summer!!!
Thank you so much, Anon! I'm always happy to hear that someone resonates with Bolin and wants to see more Bo-centric stuff like I do. I'm glad I was able to provide that. I do remember when the show first came out back in 2012 there were a lot more Bolin-centric works. Not the most, obviously, but a good amount. Of course back then we only had one season so I feel like there was more potential. Like, fans could feel all the different possibilities for what Bolin could become and went wild with it, but as the series went on we weren't given as much to inspire us, and now what? Ah, the good old days of early fandom, I miss you.
I hope you have a nice summer too! Stay cool! ;)

hello, hope you have a nice day!!! I was just wondering, do you have any idea og why people seem to dislike Suyin? I have seen a lot of people dragging her because of different reasons, some bc she didn't step up when the EK was a mess. Honestly, I don't care much. In the series, she was okay for me and I kind of just like her as a side-character, but in the comic everyone is a little too out of character for me to like them. I just don't really get why she is hated so much?? Have any thoughts?
Hello, I hope you have a nice day too!! :D
I haven't been in the lok tags for a while, so I haven't seen the dragging of Suyin, but I can take a few guesses.
I think everyone can agree Suyin was a bit of a brat as a kid, that's probably where it started. Lin's flashbacks show that as a kid Su did what she wanted, when she wanted, with little concern as to who she affected. And when Toph destroys her arrest report and tells Su to live with her grandparents, Lin feels like Su is just getting away with it. As the audience, we've grown attached to Lin for two and a half seasons, so we're more likely to take her side.  Then when we find out that actually Su went on to be super successful and got everything she ever wanted, those who would like to see Su learn her lesson weren't satisfied. And I get that. Since we never see Su struggle and grow, we only see the end result, it feels like she didn't learn anything.
There's also her odd use of familial terms. She says Kuvira was like a daughter to her, but has no problems with taking her teenage sons with her to murder her after Kuvira shows up at their doorstep, and later shows no feelings of remorse or conflict when Kuvira is defeated. However, she treats Junior, her blood son, with kid gloves and open arms. It feels like the term family doesn't mean as much to her when applied to non-blood relations. But considering she had three "family members," (two chosen and one blood relative) betray her throughout the series, this is now a pattern and should be examined about why this keeps happening to her.
I do remember people upset that Suyin didn't agree to help run the Earth Kingdom when Tenzin and Raiko asked her to, and if she had just done that then Kuvira wouldn't have taken power, and it was really selfish of her not wanting to help, but I'm actually not completely against her here. The Earth Kingdom is huge and unstable since the death of the queen, and asking one city-state to run the whole country is a big ask, and might be seen by many as a grab for power. Plus we know why Tenzin and Raiko (Raiko especially) would go to Su with this request. She's a neutral party to the Earth Kingdom and a close friend of many high-ranking people in the United Republic. They think she'll just go along with anything the UR wants so they can shape the EK how they see fit instead of letting the people of the EK decide what they want. It's why they then turn to Wu. He's clearly an unfit leader, but he's young and foolish, so it makes him easy to manipulate behind the scenes. Suyin didn't want Zaofu to be involved in all that. I can understand her feelings on that. Offering to help in other ways would have been nice though.
Suyin is a complicated character. She's not a bad person, and she doesn't necessarily enjoy hurting people, but she has a very "me and mine" mentality, and if you give her a reason not to trust you, there's no getting back in her good graces (unless you're her blood relative I guess) and she will do whatever is necessary to take down a threat to her and her family. She says she believes in second chances, but it seems not third or fourth chances. She also believes she's entitled to forgiveness, but she doesn't realize that forgiveness is not earned, it is given freely. She tells Lin she's changed, but doesn't understand that doesn't mean Lin has to forgive her if she's not ready.
I should also point out that I have not read the comics, so if anything either confirms or contradicts my points here, I don't know about it. And I have to say, I don't hate Suyin, but she's also not favorite character, and she's not my favorite Beifong, so these are only the reasons that I can think of that she would be unlikable. But she's got a lot of good traits too. She's smart, ambitious, a nurturing mother who encourages her children to pursue their interests, and has the leadership skills to successfully run a city-state. She's just gray, not wholly good but not bad. Just gray.
