So I'm still super obsessed with your take that Paul's visions are an "inversion" of reality and there's one that my brain is vibrating about in particular. In part 1 there's that one shot of him and Chani (and a couple others I think but it's not clear who they are) on a ship about to land (on Caladan?), with Paul in front and Chani standing behind him.

Now maybe I'm reading too much into this or taking it too literally, but for the most part the visions that are the most obviously "inverted" were the ones concerning the two of them, so I'm wondering what your take on that particular vision might be? Could it be she's actually in front with him behind her? Which seems like an unimportant detail but there could be some deeper layer there perhaps?? idk my brain is buzzing about it and I wanna know if you have Thoughts

Heyyyy. To be fair I'm not the first person to notice the thing about Paul and Chani's positions switching in his visions; I think I first saw that on Twitter. But ooh yes let's talk about that vision.

I'm assuming you mean this series of shots, from the visions Paul has in the tent after the attack on Arrakeen:

I don't think them switching places is going to be a one-to-one thing that happens every time Paul sees them together in a vision. But there is a lot of interesting stuff to talk about here. Chani wearing black--the color of power and empire--dressed to match Paul, standing at his right hand with no Irulan in sight. Chani gazing haughtily down at Paul's followers in a way it is hard to imagine the real Chani doing. Chani seeming entirely okay with this situation.

This makes me think that this is either a possible future where she has come to accept what Paul is doing, or a future where she is pretending to accept what he is doing for reasons of her own. But, as with all Paul's visions, we don't know if this is the future. (For one, the flags are different than the ones we see at the end of Part Two; they're the traditional Atreides green, white and black instead of the red and tan Desert Power Edition.) We don't know what else Paul sees once he drinks the Water of Life, but this could certainly be a possibility for "She'll come to understand, I've seen it."

While I was watching back through this series of visions I noticed another interesting thing. In Part One, there are multiple shots where we are following Chani walking through the desert, wearing a long white dress with her hair blowing in the wind. But in Part Two, Jessica is the figure in white that Paul is following. (I also think there is at least one shot where the person in white is so backlit/out of focus that we can't tell who it is.) We also have these parallel scenes of Paul in a tent in distress over a vision: Paul seeing the vision of following Chani while Jessica is there trying to comfort him, and later in Part Two, Paul describing the nightmare/vision of following Jessica to Chani as she tries to comfort him.

The metaphor here I think is a bit more obvious--Chani and Jessica represent two opposite paths Paul could take, either embracing the prophecy or rejecting it. But it's interesting to see them connected or superimposed on each other through the visions this way. In the vision in Part One, Jessica even speaks through (or over) Chani; we see Chani say "Paul" in the same urgent way Jessica is saying it in real life.

What does all this mean? Once again, we don't know! Chani is a phantasm at this point in Part One; Paul has not actually met her in real life so it's not clear if the Chani in his visions represents an actual possible future for the real Chani, or if she operates as more of a symbol or a projection of things in his own head. I think the intent is to keep us guessing by having the visions function in different ways--some are the future, some are a version of the future but twisted, and some are metaphors or warnings, and we often don't know in advance which is which. But I'll be super curious to see if some version of this scene comes back in Dune Messiah.

I really think James and Regulus are the kind of couple who spoil each other rotten. Like, they spend an obscene amount.

James gives Regulus sweet little gifts every day. Like, Regulus the other day told him about a book that was about to be released and he was excited to get it? The next day a copy shows up on his bed with a signed dedication from the author and a little post it with a heart. Regulus had a stressful day with his classes? Before dinner James hands him a basket full of his favourite sweets (and some of his friends' favourites). Regulus mentioned that he wants to get his ear pierced? Within hours James gives him a little velvet box with a small silver earring in the shape of a snake. Or when he buys him special thermal socks because he knows his boyfriend always freezes his limbs off. You get the point. And Regulus melts at how thoughtful and caring they are every time.

Oh, and of course he makes a list of all the things he loves to get and put in his room at Potter Manor. He wouldn't allow anyone else to intervene, this is for his Reg.

Now Regulus really LOVES spending on James. He buys him the latest versions of professional broom brands, expensive robes on the grounds that James ‘doesn't have good taste in clothes’, if they're in Hogsmeade walking around and James stops for ONE second to look at something in a shop window Regulus immediately drags him inside and buys him at least five versions of whatever he saw. He takes him on dates and luxury experiences. And when James feels shy about accepting such expensive things Regulus dismisses him by saying it's a gift to him too because nothing gives him more satisfaction than spending his homophobic, racist family's entire fortune on his hot boyfriend before sending them to hell. Fuck his mother and the rest of them. And James who has always been the one to do these kind of things for his previous partners can't help but feel so ecstatic about the attention and care he gets from the man he plans to marry.

Will probably delete later but genuinely WHY do so many ppl hate uf papyrus. "He’s horrible and a bad brother and abusive >:(((" my guy. YOU made him that way

#always weirds me out when a really bad take becomes popular fanon and ppl treat it like it's an inherent universal take #happens to all characters I feel but it's esp frustrating when it's not just a bad take but just straight making a character a certain way #as a plot device. or to project ur own issues onto. at that point just. make an oc or smth. why mangle a character so severely. what is #the purpose #im not even going to TRY to pretend i have perfect ic flawless interps (I absolutely don't and know this)#but even w/ characters I have minimal interest in (like asgore for ex) it's important to me to at least *try* to keep them in line w/ their #og counterparts.#and you'd think. given how so many ppl infantilized Papyrus. that some of that would've bled thru into au counterparts #but nope. the fanon versions are practically just wholly different characters who just look similar and 'fill the same role' in their au #and it's honestly not like there's a shortage of other characters sans could have a toxic relationship with in uf #(bc let's be honest here that's 90% of the reason uf papyrus got characterized that way. for ppl to project onto and sympathize with sans)#I don't like having strong negative opinions on things and I especially don't like talking abt them publicly but idk if it's just weird #timing or smth I've seen so many bad takes the past couple weeks #to each their own and I'd never like. bash someone for having a diff take than me. What is he if not Lord of unanswered dreams and hopes?

Honestly, it pains me so much that Dream always fails to recognise his own value. That he knows his meaning to the Dreaming, but can’t he see his worth apart from his function. That killed me in the TV series and it kills me here. How often had somebody said something like “you have to do this” or “you don’t have a saying in this” for him to only believe himself worthy as a king for those who sleep instead for a being that deserves to love and dream as well.

I agree, and it's one of the first things I truly appreciated about his characterisation.

To be honest, it's a question that could be argued in many different ways. Past experiences are the first point that pops into my mind. The idea that all past attempts to have something more, to live for something other than his function, is beyond his grasp. Yet, more often than not, if you analyse Dream's pattern, the relationship is either doomed from the start (and he fails to see it/accept it), or he is entirely incompatible with the individual, to begin with. Dream's own inability to form meaningful change is, arguably, half the issue here, if not most of it.

It's clear that Dream is lonely. That he dearly desires something more but has been burned too many times to try and shoulder the potentially another failure. He has such responsibility placed on him that he instead chooses to - as Corinthian aptly puts it - "feel nothing". I think it's easier for him to focus on his duty because the depth of his own loneliness might undo him. Again, it's not a lack of love or even care. It's too much love. Dream is cold not because he doesn't feel but because he loves too much, too quickly, too intensely.

But he is also oh so proud. All those failed relationships and connections are felt so much deeper, even if he's not verbal about them.

#this is why with tibyim i took such slowburn/platonic focus #half the fic is arguably platonic. there are no concrete romantic feelings between them at least until 5.#that thousand years was both about them mutually having a constant but also learning to value of connection #when you really analyse dream's past relationship they were all very sudden and intense #wanderer and dream /grow/ together. they are there for each other without need for anything physical. they learn to care #about each other as people first and foremost. love grows from that care/trust/connection #that's why it simmers so deeply. because it's been nurtured. bruised. then grows stronger with each test.#dream doesn't need another lover just for the sake of having something physical. he needs someone who would love him #for him. but also not be afraid to challenge him. like wanderer says in 10 /because of respect/ not from lack of it.#when i was trying to really analyse them as individuals and potential couple it was important to me that they could stand individually #but make each other better when together. and I don't mean erases each other's flaws but inspire the other to best version #of themselves #byeee sorry about the rant sdjghsdg #asks #fic: today i bury you in me

Requestober 2023 Sketches

The playlist has returned for this year! There will be a few in between, but it should be updating at least once a week on either Wednesday or Friday or both - keep an eye out for your req(s)!

Day 4 got some subtle Black Eye, they are a great pair ♪ You can see I couldn’t fully decide on posing - this will be a theme lol - maybe Sylvia loafing and poking her nose up at Peepers? Or just man-handling him into a snuggle lol, I almost went with that one! But I still ended up going with the first sketch after all, his half-squinted eye was too cute to pass up!

Day 6′s first sketch was also a first-try-correct but lemme try something else lol, I’m glad I went with this one though! Friend looks very fluffy, as does Ghostbur <3 Thank goodness for digital cleaning, Phil’s arm completely confounded me traditionally lol, same with the wings actually

The alt is still cute tho, and sad :’) Ghostbur would still consider Phil his dad! And yes he’s not exactly Will, Phil’s kid ahh </3 And yet he still gets to hug him!! The piece of him that remembers him! It hurts ♥

Day 10 was a great excuse to draw blood lol, I can’t not ♪ I ran out of room since this was the last sketch of the page so while I fully intended for the bloody knife to be continuous with the rest of him, I had to puzzle-piece it all together haha ♫ He’s so scribbly lol

Day 15 was so fun!! Ahhh!! As I mentioned in the tags, I got the notification for this one while I was offline and dozing but even in that state of mind, this was the image that immediately bloomed in my head! I am so pleased I got to make it exactly as intended haha ♪ They’re so cute <3 And it’s always fun to draw Mitsu reacting like “O//o//O” even just in emoji form lol

Day 16′s was fun and silly - I only ended up with the one sketch, it’s been too long since I’ve drawn a Core! It hasn’t been all that long since I’ve watched a Meet the Cores but it has been long while since I’ve picked up Portal 2 or Mel, it’s too bad ‘cause they’re both so cute haha. But I mean, all this Portal stuff has inspired me to get back to playing so hmmm :3c

Day 17 had those two options but for me it wasn’t even a question lol - I do of course love RGB but I’ve made a habit of drawing him! And I did get to draw him later as well, so I got all the character diversity I could ask for haha. I’m so sad that I missed out on the “tk” SFX in the final version, I made it and then just forgot to turn the layer back on before exporting lol, just hear it in your head if you would ♪

Day 18, more blood! Moreeee! Thank you for all the Yanderapy attention this year ahhh, it’s so gratifying to know these boys are being enjoyed ♥ I love them too! And it was doubly fun to imagine them playing into their baser urges, yandere-wise haha ♪ What’s the fun of a yandere if they can’t have a little blood, as a treat? Hehe ♫ Mitsuru’s swirly eyes are one of my favourite yandere features of his, drawing it in full swing was really fun :D

Day 19, a bit of Ranboo ♥ It’s been long enough that I’d forgotten how much I enjoy Ranboo! c!Ranboo as well as The Guy haha, they’ve gotten more chaotic lately it seems, good for them. He’s also still quite fun to draw, that’s just good character design for you ♪ A cute little squished face, wanting to go out and play. You can kinda tell from the flower boxes that even traditionally I wasn’t all that detail-oriented for this one lol

Day 20 got a lot of concept art! Making new outfits will do that lol, started with just deciding what their sweets theme would be - Mitsuru was so obviously ube and buttercream that it hurts lol, and you can see there was a bit more deliberation with Ishida. Salted lemon, and he was supposed to keep the lattice motif - we’ll get there :P

Outfit designing! Ishida’s was a OHKO - you can’t see it in the final version since he’s angled away but his buttons are salt stones! And he’s also got asymmetrical salt “freckles” around his left eye :) Mitsu’s was a little over-complicated so he needed a second pass

But only a second pass! A chunky sweater with the swirls was absolutely the correct choice, and then since zippers don’t exist in the JD universe (lol) he gets buttons!

Finally they got their final version! You can see from the sliced version that originally they were meant to have three sections apiece for both limbs, buuut that ended up being overly visually busy, so I gave them two for their arms and three for their legs :) All the other posing and everything was pretty much perfect though! :D

This is the most correct version of their clothes for their cut-up frame; I was in a bit of a rush for the gif version so a few elements are missing, like Ishida’s aforementioned lattice design element :’D Just try to not look too hard at the final version for these details specifically lol ♪ Oh the foibles of trying to be speedy!

Technically not Requestober but I was inspired by my own idea of them switch-stitching their limbs back together lol - lemon ube?? I guess that might work...

Day 21 got a concept sketch before starting - Luci’s glares are very cute hehe ♪ I was sure I could push it cuter tho >:3c

And I was right! I called this an alt but honestly this was the correct choice from the beginning lol ♪ Long ears are so fun to pose, extra expressions! I had a bit of trouble with his arms, but I think that’s just a me-not-knowing-how-to-draw-arms-lately thing lol

Day 22 was also very close to the end of the page so I was a bit cramped! Their faces are definitely the most important element - especially considering RGeeBs has one here! - so I wanted to give them a bit of extra attention. I really like his sharp nose hehe ♪ And Hero’s hand doing the classic cartoony pinky-up with her white gloves ugh it’s so cute <3

They did get a very tiny fullbody sketch tho haha ♪ For how it turned out here, I’m doubly happy with RGB’s pose in the final! Especially his legs :D

Speaking of tiny, day 24 was super tiny!! I always draw the stick figures tiny tho haha, they’re such cute little pops of colour on my page :) I’m glad as well that I could make all the colours clean digitally - the colours got a bit mixed traditionally lol

Fun fact: Day 25 didn’t get a traditional sketch! It’d been too long since I’d drawn GLaDOS so I felt a little better to just have the references right there in the same canvas lol. My initial digital sketches are always a bit chaotic, lots of very energetic lines! It does make me all the more determined to make her design readable in my style >:3c

I started forgetting to label what day they were around day 26 haha, but I started with them side-by-side - I wanted them to show off their outfits a bit more but it felt a little stiff :P Obviously Sinister would be uncomfortable in heavier clothes tho, so I went with that thought ♪ Poor Stanley haha

The alt ended up taking it since interacting is way more fun than not! I haven’t drawn Stanley using sign language in a hot minute which is too bad! It’s very fun to do! He’s not going to listen to you Stanley, no matter what you do

Day 28 gave me a bunch of thoughts but since it was fairly open-ended, I wasn’t sure where to take it at first! Angst just has so many possible roads! Initially, featured here, I considered them getting caught - them in a police light was a very cool concept for my lighting-focused brain this season haha - but it still wasn’t quite right. Maybe because Ishida actually looks stressed, noo D:

The plot just kinda picked up from there, the idea of Ishida killing Mitsuru since they were caught, and then what I eventually ended up with - all while trying to fight against limited space and a not-the-best art day, just gotta keep powering through despite the obstacles!

But I did finally land on the idea I wanted the most :) Originally this one was going to have two panels but I couldn’t make it look right, switching back and forth between them :P I’m glad I finally got to it in the end! It was a struggle haha

Day 29 got Fellplates!Gaster! Heck yeah! :D It’s been a while since I’ve drawn him so I had to get back into the swing of it lol - I actually booted him on “April 1st” by changing my clock and then my internet refused to connect to certain sites?? What the heck is that about. Well either way, I got him! He is cute haha

I really was tempted to give him something to do with other Fellplates members, but the lack of references confounded me! Ah! You can probably tell which one was meant to be Alphys huh lol ♪ Him and his sense of loyalty ah 💔 Well, self-destruction is a common ley line for him huh haha

And then what I finally ended up with ♪ He has a slightly more open expression here, but I do like the somewhat sinister edge the final version ended up with :3c The backlighting begged for it!! And everyone needs cool backlighting haha

Day 30′s TSP/Portal crossover!! It’s such a classic idea, I am actually honestly surprised that this is my first foray into it - I’ve thought about it forever! I’ve drawn them adjacently! But this is my first time actually drawing them interacting?? How?? Well I’m glad I have now haha, they’re so- they’re just so them, y’know? Lol

Y’get a bonus because the idea of Stanley and Chell just kinda vibing in a test chamber and Stanley reacting - which you can see the barest of unfinished sketch there on the right lol - to having his Bucket taken from him, it was too good not to haha. Chell is indifferent lol

Day 31, last day! I actually drew this the night beforehand, very quickly thus the scribbliness haha. Sometimes that’s all you need, just to get the image out! You can see with the SFX, despite being noiseless in the final version, I was thinking of the static right away :) I’m quite happy with how it all turned out hehe <3

Hi anon🐊, originally that tag wasn't going to be there but two hours after writing the post I realised half of the tags weren't actually there and the not actually unrequited felt appropriate.

Canon Icemav is the definition of almost, in my poor head: they are enemies, then they work together and fall in love, and then thirty-six years have passed and Iceman is dying and Mav is going to be alone again. I wrote a post about Tom marrying Sarah and the reasons why, but Tumblr is stupid, so: it's a platonic marriage because Tom wants to become Admiral, Sarah wants to study but her father says no because you're a woman, and they meet outside a queer club in New York and marry three months later. ( found it!) She knows he's gay and in love with this man, whom he calls Mav with the sweetest of tones, and he knows she wouldn't want sex with anybody or would particularly miss all the shebang of falling in love. Mav doesn't know about the marriage, and when he comes back from deployment, everybody is talking about how pretty Kazansky's wife is, and it broke his heart in a million pieces because a) Ice didn't tell him he was getting married; b) Mav has finally mastered the courage to tell him he is in love with him. That time Mav sees Sarah but not Ice, and now Ice thinks Mav hates him and doesn't give him the time to explain or to properly introduce Sarah. They see each other a couple of times in the three following years until one night when Mav is back at their home and Sarah is there but not Tom, and this time Mav actually enters the house, and he's so confused because why two bedrooms? Why is she not wearing a ring? Sarah sits him down and explains the whole thing to him and even says fuck Thomas is so in love with you it's embarrassing sometimes. Mav stays at the house for the whole week while waiting for Tom to be back from deployment, but he doesn't because they need him out there for another week and Pete is shipped out for the rest of the year. They don't get the chance to talk. If the first time it was because of a 'fake' wife and the second was for work, maybe the universe doesn't really want them together. Not that he really believes it but then it happens a third and a fourth time, Mav is in a place, Ice is going to get to him and the plane broke, it's a storm, Ice&Slider's jet get shoot down just behind enemy lines and they never seriously talk. Or vice versa. When they finally see each other for more than three days straight, almost a decade has passed, Pete is with Penny again, and how can they talk about them when there isn't a them? Especially since he appears to be so serious this time with Penny, not thinking about marriage or a house, but still serious. Mav is serious enough that when Penny breaks up with him, Mav spends four days in Ice's bed commiserating and asking himself, Sarah, and Tom what he did wrong. He says, when they are both getting ready to bed, that loving you has never been this complicated or painful. Tom cuddles him extra strongly that night, and before he falls asleep, he even answer yeah, being in love with you never makes me sad.

The worst thing is that everybody knows they're in love with each other since back then, and Tom&Pete talk about it often enough to be considered that they have the conversation™️ but they don't move from there. Slider almost punches both of them in the face because they're actually dancing together in the middle of a club during a navy's night and Mav is begging Ice to not go this time and they're crying and kissing, but Ice leaves the morning after and Mav is making another Admiral pissed and they're both almost forty and it's painful to watch.

Mav is the first one to know about the cancer. Ice invites him out, a date, for a slice of cake in their favourite bakery, and drops the bomb. Mav almost chokes on the pie and takes all the leave he can for that year. Sell the house and move in with Tom and Sarah and he is there for every single treatment, visits, meds, insomnia and hair loss. He's there and hugs Ice as tight as he can because some nights it seems like he's already dead and Mav can't stand it again. He lost Goose and then Carole, not even five years ago, and now Ice? Not if he can do something. Mav is there for the operation and the scar, and Tom, who wants to die because someday the pain is so strong that not even morphine works. The recovery is slow, but his leave is ending and he has to go back out there. Tom let him go because he doesn't want to resent him for taking away his wings. They leave each other with murmured words and a see you soon, love. And it seems like things are finally taking the road they were always supposed to, until they aren't and Mav comes back with more nightmares and PTSD than he knows what to do with, and he almost disappears for an entire year. Maverick is back again before the cancer, and Ice is okay with it. It breaks his heart, but Maverick is going to therapy, and the only thing that matters is that he's going to be okay. They have time.

It's 2011 and Ice has almost three stars on his uniform, he survived cancer, and he was part of the team that worked to eliminate DADT. Sarah asks for divorce the day after because Tom deserves to be free and Sarah wants the same. For the first time in almost twenty years, they can just be. It's going to be okay, they're fine and Tom's hands shake a little when he calls Mav to know if they're going to spend his next leave together. Mav says he's going to stay where he is and nah, maybe they can see each other another time. 2011 becomes 2012 and with 2013 comes Bradley in the form of a very angry adult, screaming and demanding answers Ice can't give him, not the one he wanted. This time Tom goes to see Pete in some boom-fuck post in Sri Lanka and they spend almost another year together, but without really being together. It isn't the most happy of the years they spent in each other's presence because it's a constant fight about every single little thing, and nobody is talking about the two big elephants in the room that are getting bigger and bigger year after year. The day before Ice is called back, Mav says I love you and Tom answers, I love you too, Pete.

After that, years seem to accumulate without either of them realising it because they are calling, texting, and sharing each other's lives from different places in the world. 2015 becomes 2016 and before they realise it is December 2020, Ice passes out during a meeting. Sarah is at the hospital when he wakes up, and when the doctor says it's back, Ice doesn't know what to say. This time around, Tom waits to say a single word to Maverick because it's difficult to wrap his head around what is happening, let alone say it aloud. He has at some point because his voice is becoming less and less strong every day and he knows too well that the next time Mav is going to be around, he won't probably have the strength to say much. Sarah calls Pete, and the treatments start again, stronger than the first time and less and less effective. Pete is flying jets, making friends, going to therapy, spending weekends with them and trying to make the most of all the time they have. Every time Mav goes back to his house, Tom signs I love you to him, but Mav doesn't understand. It doesn't matter really, because Mav says it's back on his skin every time they hug, it doesn't say a letter but his lips move to form the word.

The last week of treatment doesn't work, and it's just another treatment that doesn't. Ice is tired, Mav is flying supersonic jets, and Admiral Cain calls to ask for advice on who to put to work to fly the mission. Ice puts together the whole squadron in a week and puts Mav as their teacher/leader. Admiral Simpson is going to hate him and Admiral Bates is going to laugh, but the kids have to get back. It's Thursday and Mav is in front of him, and Ice feels like it's going to be the last time they see each other and probably the last time in general. They're both crying when Mav leaves the room, and Icd signs another I love you to the man who walked right by his side for all these years. Mav asks him to call when the time is going to come, but Tom knows he would never ever do such a thing. He falls asleep, and Mav flies.

(Three weeks after the mission, Mav is repeating the movements he saw Ice do for a long time when Halo asks him to whom he's saying I love you. Mav has to bite the inside of his cheek to not wail all his pain in front of his Lieutenant.)

So, I have reached the final episode of season 6 of my Supergirl rewatch and I just have to reiterate: they did Nyxly so dirty.

I still don't understand what they were thinking. Nyxly is the first person to pass the Courage Totem's test, she's inundated with empathy from the Humanity Totem, she's completely open with the Truth Totem and is granted access to the Love Totem by choosing the life of a child over her own quest for power.

So, why did they just bung her back in the Phantom Zone!?

It wasn't a satisfying ending, it wasn't even a character arc - it was a circle! She ended up exactly where she started. Sure, Lex's hubris being his own downfall made sense for him, but him being in the second leg of season 6 at all felt so unnecessary that that wasn't satisfying, either.

Here's how I like to imagine this story arc going, because I'm never going to have the time or energy to do anything with this idea besides writing it down like this:

So, we've got Humanity, Hope, Courage, Dreams, Love, Truth and Destiny. 7 Totems. 7 Super Friends. Say, each Totem was tied specifically to a member of the Super Friends and so we're given an episode per Totem exploring a member of the team and their unique relationship to what that core element represented for them. (They sort of did this in the show but only for a couple of the Totems and they never really committed to it as a theme).

Narratively speaking, the Super Friends are working together to beat the trials, which is exactly what a superhero team should be all about. Together, they represent the best the planet has to offer.

Except, that's not the point of the trials. To gather the AllStone, you have to do it alone. And who's doing it alone? Nyxly. Nyxly bares her soul to these Totems, she gains most of them independently without cheating and the further along she gets into the trials, the more she's able to overcome the very reason for her pain and anger that led her down this path to begin with.

The Super Friends aren't looking for power, that was never their goal, and so of course they aren't playing by the rules to gain it, they're doing it in a way that everyone equally shares a part of the burden and so the effect isn't as intense. For Nyxly, though, by gaining all 7 Totems and going through those associated trials, I like to think that by the end of her arc, she willingly gives up that power.

And maybe that's the whole point of the AllStone. Only someone worthy of power should gain it, and the only people worthy of power are the ones that don't want it. The AllStone isn't meant to be a weapon or even a tool used by an individual, it's supposed to be for the whole world to share. And so the very mechanics of the trial will either fail those corrupted by their thirst for power long before they get a taste, or teach someone the true values of their own humanity by fairly passing every test.

I know the show wanted to go out with a bang and a big-stakes CGI battle with all the trimmings, but Nyxly was never designed as a villain. She was hurt and angry, but that never made her evil. She was a fifth dimensional imp, all she ever did was cause mischief, and so having her face her own reality through the trials would have been a major grounding factor for her.

To have the final villain of the show willingly give up their power not because it was beaten out of them, but simply because they decided to feels right to me. They built up the stakes so high in this season to make Nyxly out as the most powerful villain they'd ever faced -- and so maybe the only way to beat her was for her to decide that the fight was no longer worth fighting.

I dunno, it just would've been nice if the AllStone had actually meant something at the heart of it, and that Nyxly actually had a satisfying end to her story that made sense for her character.
