Blue lions name etymology:

Many of the blue lions' names have western European origins and have many connections to Gods, Saints and Christianity (perhaps because the Kingdom takes their religion and the crest system so seriously)

(side note, I updated the black eagles one, so check it out if you want!)

Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd-

Dimitri: alternative spelling of Demetrius, "devoted to Demeter" (Greek Goddess of the harvest, caused winter after becoming depressed every time her daughter left for the underworld), which was a name given to many kings. Could also relate to the martyr Saint Demetrius, who was depicted wearing armour and holding a spear and died from multiple spear wounds.

Alexandre: "defender of men", also given to many kings

Blaiddyd: "wolf-lord", a legendary king of Briton who was known for encouraging necromancy. He was sent to Athens by his father to learn liberal arts, and the city he founded (Bath) was dedicated to Athena/Minerva, goddess of knowledge and war

Dedue Molinaro-

Dedue: could have origins in the Nubian god Dedun, god of incense and protector of dead Nubian rulers and their funerary rites, who was often depicted as a lion. It could also be related to the name Dudu, originating from Eduardo meaning "guardian of riches"

Molinaro: from the Italian word 'Molino' meaning "mill"

Felix Hugo Fraldarius-

Felix: "lucky, successful"

Hugo: "heart, mind, spirit", may have been chosen because of the link to Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables' with the character Fantine

Fraldarius: The closest anyone can find is 'Fraldario' in Portuguese, meaning "diaper" 😬. If anyone can find something better PLEASE let me know

Fantine: "free", "childlike" or "infant", a character in Les Miserables who was a beautiful and naive girl until she was forced into prostitution for her child

Dominic: from Latin Dominicus, meaning "of the lord", also the name of Saint Dominic, who was described as having reddish hair, beautiful eyes and a pleasingly resonant voice

Ashe Duran-

Ashe: "ash tree", also another spelling of Yoruba concept meaning "the power to make things happen and produce change"

Ubert: could be a variant of the surname Uber, meaning "active, busy, enterprising", or Ebert which comes from the German word for boar. This could also be another variation of Hubert, so as I said in the last post, "bright heart/mind". Ashe's Japanese surname, Duran, means "enduring"

Julie d'Aubigny (1670/1673-1707).

French swordswoman and opera singer.

Better known as Mademoiselle Maupin or La Maupin, she was a 17th-century opera singer. Little is known for certain about her life; her tumultuous career and flamboyant lifestyle were the subject of gossip, rumor, and colourful stories in her own time, and inspired numerous fictional and semi-fictional portrayals afterwards. Théophile Gautier loosely based the title character, Madeleine de Maupin, of his novel Mademoiselle de Maupin (1835) on her.

She was born to Gaston d'Aubigny, a secretary to Louis de Lorraine-Guise, comte d'Armagnac, the Master of the Horse for King Louis XIV. In 1687, the Count d'Armagnac had her married to Sieur de Maupin of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Soon after the wedding, her husband received an administrative position in the south of France, but the Count kept her in Paris for his own purposes.

Also around 1687, La Maupin became involved with an assistant fencing master named Sérannes. When Lieutenant-General of Police Gabriel Nicolas de la Reynie tried to apprehend Sérannes for killing a man in an illegal duel, the pair fled the city to Marseille.

On the road south, La Maupin and Sérannes made a living by giving fencing exhibitions and singing in taverns and at local fairs. While travelling and performing in these impromptu shows, La Maupin dressed in male clothing but did not conceal her sex. On arrival in Marseille, she joined the opera company run by Pierre Gaultier.

The Paris Opéra hired La Maupin in 1690, having initially refused her. She debuted as Pallas Athena in Cadmus et Hermione by Jean-Baptiste Lully the same year. She performed regularly with the Opéra, first singing as a soprano, and later in her more natural contralto range.

In 1702, André Campra composed the role of Clorinde in Tancrède specifically for her bas-dessus (contralto) range. She sang for the court at Versailles on a number of occasions.

She retired from the opera in 1705 and took refuge in a convent, probably in Provence, where she is believed to have died in 1707 at the age of 33.

Gautier is the definition of a sweetheart. He’s constantly making sure the people around him feel comfortable and loved, and always offering emotional advice and moral support. Literally the first thing he asks someone when he first meets them is their preferred pronouns and any triggers they have.

Defense: “But the officers called me Mr. at the crime scene? I thought you knew that?”

Gautier: -comforting smile as he puts a hand on their shoulder- “Just ‘cause someone calls you something doesn’t mean it’s accurate. Also I use ‘dude’ and ‘man’ as a gender neutral term, but if that ever bothers you I can adjust immediately”

This kindness also seems to shine in court, as he even provides support for the defense when they’re feeling down.

Defense: -is super stressed out because they’ve gone on a wild theory and doesn’t know what evidence to present-

Gautier: “Hey man…just take a breath. Clear your mind, and the answer will come to you. I believe in you dude, you can do this”

Even his objections don’t hold much bite, as he usually points out the flaw in the defense’s claim gently instead of mockingly.

“Not to throw off your vibes, dude…I’m totally digging where you’re going with your theory but like…that kind of contradicts this evidence, right?”

This aspect of himself, while in his tender nature, is also due to the fact that he cares more about the truth than winning.

Gautier is a fun mix of your stereotypical teenage skater boy and hippy. The first because of his tendency to use words such as “Dude, bruh, killer, radical, etc” and the second because he’s very in tune with emotions and nature. He’s also a little stupid when it comes to stuff people usually know? A bit of a ditz, if you will.

Someone: “Are you the breadwinner of the household?”

Gautier: “Duuuude….I won bread? That’s like…so killer man. I hope it’s whole wheat…”

However, don’t underestimate him. Gautier is quite intelligent when it comes to tougher topics, like law, emotions, science, and other schooly subjects. It often throws people for a loop when he corrects them about certain facts in a long tangent.

Gautier, other than law, also loves music. It’s his side career. But while he knows how to play guitar and piano he isn’t trying to make a career out of them. He’s actually trying to become a famous kazoo player.

“The kazoo just brings so much happiness and laughter to people, man…it really speaks to me”

Gautier, surprisingly, tends to put off more people than he should. Mostly his coworkers. People see the way he acts so carefree and unprofessional and look down on him. Some also aren’t fond of his empathetic side, as Gautier is more sensitive than most. He is sometimes known to go in “Moods”, where he’s down about something he’s learned. These can range from actual dark topics, to the death of a bug on his way to work. As you may realize, this can be tough to deal with when you’re trying to get something done and he’s busy sulking.

All in all though, Gautier is a genuinely good dude, and more cooperative with the defense than he probably should be.

Ex, widened smiles, hands in pockets, blowing hair out of face. Of course, these are easier to see for the trained eye.

Gautier was raised in Seattle for his childhood days. His life was relatively normal, learning both of his mother’s behaviors and teachings as he grew. He was a very bright child, quick to learn and quick to make friends because of his carefree nature. As he grew though, children who were once fascinated by his connection with earth and its inhabitants started to find him strange. That only got worse when his family moved to France for his high school years.

Gautier stuck out like a sore thumb, not suited socially to the expensive school his parents signed him up for. They had wanted him to have wonderful opportunities, especially since his mom needed the family to move for work reasons. But that only backfired as he became a target of bullying. It didn’t help that the teachers saw him as a problem child as, despite his good grades, he had a tendency for violating uniform guidelines, had a ‘marijuana user’ way of speaking (not the nicest thing to overhear a teaching saying), etc.

The bullying took its worst turn on the night of the overnight musicthon. An event where musicians of the school would write a song overnight, and the best song would win tuition money for college. That night there was a dreadful storm, and his bullies had locked him outside on one of the school’s upper floor verandas, trapping him in the downpour. It only got worse when the storm left the school in a blackout. Now left in scary darkness, Gautier was panicked. He curled up on the floor, hoping to avoid the edge so he wouldn’t fall off.

That was when it struck.

A shot of lighting, just outside of the veranda.

The crack of light and overwhelming roar of thunder left Gautier in shambles. It’s strike resulted in a broken telephone wire, the edge slicing his shoulder and leaving a nasty scar. Despite the injury, Gautier was too scared to move. Even after the storm was over, Gautier didn’t move from his spot, hands covering his ears and eyes shut with fear. He was found by a teacher hours later, and quickly taken to the hospital.

His mother, Séraphine Desroches, came to the school the next day. Her son wasn’t telling her who did it, so she would find out herself. Being a prosecutor for years, it didn’t take her long to piece together what happened. She waited until her son was better to take action, demanding an audience with the principal, bullies, their parents, the teachers that were on watch that night, etc. Then she got to work, accusing the boys responsible with elegance, intimidation and hard evidence. Needless to say the boys were expelled once their actions were brought to light.

That incident stuck with Gautier in more ways than one. It left him with an extreme fear of lighting, thunder, and darkness. And it made him want to pursue being a prosecutor. The way his mom had pieced together her argument and gotten justice for him was inspiring, and an insane relief. He wanted to give that feeling to every person that had been wronged. So, after his last two years of high school spent in a less snooty school, he took up law in college (as well as therapy) and the rest is history.

How would you describe a Description a la Victor Hugo? Like, I know exactly how it is, but not how to explain it. Could you make something like a checklist to make it clear?

That is a good question, and I feel like people who can actually write have come up with good answers! But I have not seen them! So let us Stumble Towards The Light together!

…This will not be a Short Post.

I think first of all a Victor Hugo description starts out with a basic Romanticist Description, Spiritualist Mode ( as opposed to a more Materialist mode like Dumas or Gautier used; the lines are not hard-and-fast but they are noticeable in aggregate), so, Level One of a Hugo Description:-detailed physical description BUT - everything mentioned has a Symbolic and Spiritual Meaning; that color of brick isn’t just BROWN, it’s BROWN which should make you think of EARTH and WELL MADE BREAD and HOME ; red is ALWAYS BLOOD and SOMETIMES ALSO DAWN, etc.

COROLLARY TO THE ABOVE: all Symbolic Aspects also potentially reference their opposites. That young person may have good skin because they’re young and healthy and Full of Life, but that should serve to remind you that SOMEDAY THEY WILL NOT BE; instead they will be OLD and WRINKLED and FULL OF DEATH. NEVER FORGET DEATH.

-Speaking of, a Direct Reference to Imminent Mortality is also appreciated at this juncture -Where Appropriate, Mythological References (Spoilers: it is ALWAYS appropriate). people don’t just have a nice neck, they have THE NECK OF ATHENA. The FOOT of ATALANTA. The …IDK… TROUSERS of BALDR. You get the idea.

-You Gotta Have a Nature Reference Or Is It Even A Sublime Romantic Description

-If you can insult NeoClassicism, that is Always A Bonus. That TOADSTOOL seems ELEGANT AND SYMMETRICAL but RENDERS THE GROUND STERILE, JUST LIKE NEOCLASSICISM. Hahah, irrelevant burn! (and Bonus Death Mention!)

Now it’s time to get the Real Hugo Spin on This Thing

- Presumably your work has some overarching Symbolic Motif(s)– Light, perhaps, or The Sea. Make part of your description reference that. Perhaps this building has been in Constant Repair Against Constant Pillaging, as the Shore is Pillaged and Renewed By The Tides. Like that.

-Find a way to tie in an aspect of Society or (your concept of) the Great Spiritual Truth of the Universe to this description. Does this person have work-roughened hands (roughened like a ROCK, like the HANDS OF PROMETHEUS)? Great! no doubt they not only indicate a Diligent and Humble Nature,as per the first section, but Also the Demands Society Places on the Laborer!

- Some minor physical detail can surely be spun into a discussion of history, relative to this character/building/weather’s role in that history! If that totally eludes you, don’t be ashamed to just step into the breach (LIKE A WARRIOR OF THE HEROIC AGE, who is after all no more Daring and Intrepid than an Author, right) and just invent some history or fables to suit!

- at some point, embellish, elucidate, enrich, amplify, multiply, enhance, beautify, bedeck, emblazon a piece of your description with synonyms. This is a great place to throw in a connection to an overarching Thematic Metaphor!

-mention the contrast, the opposite, the complement to the idea of what you’re describing, just for good measure; if you have a glowing radiant light (LIKE THE SUN WHICH IS THE EYE OF GOD) you must somewhere have an empty chilling dark (WHICH IS THE BLINDNESS OF THE SOUL WITHOUT MERCY).

- If you have time, maybe highlight the generalities you’ve been using by deploying specifics that seem to contradict the generality but really only emphasize it: Did you say a character never wears anything but blue? Then You Must Allow that it is not true, on Shrove Tuesday they have been known to wear a band of black around their throat.

- WHAT IS THEIR FOREHEAD LIKE, OH MY GOD, WE HAVE TO KNOW.

3. Your favorite side quest.

I’ve got three actually. The time Athena didn’t want Ellie to be alone with Ivelios because they were sure she’d been messed with and so she ended up dancing with her with her under a love potion. The time Elwyn comforted Az at her fathers grave and The time Elwyn and Kal went to convince people to witness for the trial we never ended having and got hungry enough to stop and get the fantasy equivalent of KFC.

13. Introduce your current party.

Sarkanaya, since it’s almost over :( Athena (my elven yolo monk): Wicked fast and extremely reckless and goes down a lot because of it. Loves her ragtag band of friends and would die for them and for the greater good. The only person who could ever make her be even slightly cautious (only slightly lol) is her boy Garryn who if we succeed in restoring the kingdom may end up being King. (I’m thinking an autumn wedding would suit them 😜)Wolfgang ( @aceofwonders‘s human light cleric): Handsome, brains of the party, an amazing healer who literally keeps Athena up all the damn time (sorry lol). Surprisingly sassy and gives all the best insults. Badass and a nerd at the same time. In love with Ellie. Umbra (@darien-gautier’s elven pirate wizard rogue): Asshole with a heart of gold. Will cut you, but also cares. Loves her husband and brother a lot. Very good assassin, working on her wizard stuff and getting better. Didn’t ask for this, but will kick it’s ass regardless. Ellie (@a-heart-of-kyber‘s elven circle of the moon druid): super awkward but very endearing, surprise arranged married to the assholiest of men. Cares, a lot. Obsessed with a magical flower for the majority of the campaign. BEARS (in many forms, all of which kick ass). Marriage annulled, now dating Wolfgang.

fav class, I have had a blast playing my Monk but I also really enjoy Clerics, so tied between them I’d say.

fav race, probably tiefling because they are just so much fun to flavor. Followed very closely by half-elves.

32. What role do you like to play the most? (Tank/healer/etc?)

Tank is super fun tbh

33. How do you write your backstory, or do you even write a backstory?

Typically I decide what class/race I want to play first. Then I think about basic personality and go from there. Generally I’ll spend about a week or so thinking about the character and planning things out in my head and once I’ve got a good amount nailed down I write out a descriptive narrative of the important parts of their story, sometimes a small section with be first person.

Racism, colonialism, antisemitism and nationalism: in the 19th century, all these ‘isms’ contributed to shaping society. Every kind of indigenous or popular knowledge that did not correspond to the prevailing ‘civilized’ frameworks was systematically destroyed. These erased narratives continue to influence the way we relate to the world today. Tafukt/The Sun/Athena is a dance solo and the first part of a trilogy focused on epistemologies and mythologies of the Tamazigh – the indigenous population of Northern Africa.

The performance centres on three female goddesses that unite culture and history: Neith, Tanit and Athena. Lake Tritonis in Libya is said to be the birthplace of Athena, before the Greeks adopted her on the other side of the Mediterranean. An exploration of these epistemologies brings history’s blind spots to light. How can we challenge the current canon? Can performance function as a tool of resistance? In Tafukt, Radouan Mriziga seeks to create a space for reflections on the past in order to strive for a more inclusive future.

Back to a modern AU Athena, I had no idea what to do for a background so I just went with a what would part of her bedroom looks like, there was an empty spot were so there's a little reference in the background, I do regret putting the mirror there as, it when too late when I realized that there was no room to put a terrarium, I can see Athena in a modern world having a bearded Dragon for a pet.

Seen this done by a couple of of people so I thought why not give it a go, Orange and green where the hardest to have characters drawn for, I went looking to see if there were old characters I could use, and I found two characters that I adopted that I haven't drawn yet, or it's been a while so they don't have names yet. Majority of these characters are elder scrolls OC's and half of this are filled by members of the Gautier family cuz why not also I haven't drawn the twins as adults since January.

I’d like to think the reason Barbas was so adamant not getting ‘killed’ by Athena with The Rueful Axe during the “A Daedra's Best Friend” quest, even thou he will go back to Clavicus vile ether way. (Eventually if you use the axe) is because he keeps thinking back of his encounter with Phoebe in Vvanderfell.

Barbas might be afraid of green-eyed redheads.
