I really love gertrude robinson bc how often do you get an older woman character who just really sucks? She sacrifices ppl that trust her. She is so focused on keeping the world from ending that she completely doesn’t notice one of her assistants routinely torturing the others. She dismembered a guy. She does her job badly on purpose. She’s cunning and sneaky. She dares her murderous, immortality seeking boss to kill her. She gets murdered by her murderous, immortality seeking boss. She’s not particularly friendly. She somehow had access to plastic explosives. She’s a manipulator and a liar. She’s bound to the avatar of destruction. She helped a guy get rid of a pig by telling him to put it in conk crete. She is like the opposite of a sweet little grandma and that’s beautiful.

I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim
Tumblr media
Secret origins 80 page giant, ID in alt
(or well, technically this was their second meeting in that story (the brick was the first) so...love at second sight?)
Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:
Tumblr media
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Straight up the progression here goes:
The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting
Tumblr media
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.
Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)
Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#stephanie brown#tim drake#timsteph#meta#< ??? ig#robin 1993#made this post and forgot to finish. saved it in drafts. saw posts that annoyed me. proceeded to finish it#the subset of fans who think they're doing a righteous feminism by giving steph more flaws than she has in canon...headaches#yes flawed female characters are important representation no i dont think you projecting chuck dixons conservative values onto her-#-is doing her character a great favour. if so you need to commit to the bit and make tim a stone cold nark /j#sorry okay im done vaguing. there's real things going on in the world that matter. the bad take is the mind killer etc etc#anyway the zero to 100 progression of early timsteph is fascinating. on the one hand i know it's mostly a product of its time#both in terms of portrayals of romance (esp teen romance) and partially of women and girls by dixon (not extremely boy obsessed-#-but there's a. dark shadow of the boy crazy trope. a gentle whiff of it in the air. just a little)#but bc this aspect isn't blatantly/egregiously author bias i choose to analyse it#i could also analyse how steph in general is portrayed as liking guys she can't/shouldn't have a little#(her crush on the much older detective in bg2009 and also tim a little bit w/ the secret identity thing)#(but that's a whole other discussion. also that aspect of the romance in bg2009 is. also a little sexistly motivated-#-and also dropped part way through to an extent so like..not exactly ripe for analysis)#ANYWHO i love you Steph <3 you're unwell and yet so adorable and compelling Steph <3

can i ask for any details about the hotd/jjk fic?
you mean aside from this lil WIP snippet?
I think I'm gonna call it "Write myself out of the history books" a line from All Time Low to match the rest of my 'Dropping Gojo into fandoms he didn't ask to be in' works 😂
His name is Soren and let's just pretend its Valyrian when in actuality it's just one of my favorite Fire Emblem characters (I feel like Gojo would appreciate that though, prolly a Soren stan himself lol)
His dragon hatches in his crib and idk I headcanon that Rhaenyra would wait to let him name it himself because she probably did the same with Syrax? But then 2 yr-old Gojo is like 'her name is Blue Eyes White Dragon' and Rheanyra is like 'wtf no' and also, this is why you shouldn't let kids name their own damn dragons. Rhaenyra refuses to let him name his dragon after what she doesn't realize is a Yu-gi-oh card, and in they settle for Sylvion, which she thinks is just some obscure Valyrian word/reference his 'Uncle' Daemon taught him, but is in fact a Pokemon that bears striking resemblance to his dragon. It's one of Dreamfyre's eggs, mostly bright white, with blue accents and some slight pink in the membranes, hence, Sylvion. Which is also Gojo's favorite pokemon, so he's two for two with references in this life.
He knows damn well that Daemon is not his Uncle, and they (Rhaenyra, Daemon, Laenor) all know he knows even if they collectively don't acknowledge it. He's Daemon and Rhaenyra's 'accidental brothel baby' that she had to get shotgun wedding'd to Laenor for, which is why he's much older than canon-Jace.
The age gaps are: Satoru/Soren (0), Aegon (+2), Helaena (-1), Aemond (-2), Jace (-3), Luke (-4) idk if Joff or Daeron will be in this.
Aegon is in love with him literally at first sight. He's going to PINE FOREVER. Like so much angst when he realizes he doesn't just adore his nephew in a purely platonic sense - which his mother/grandfather already dislike - but is in fact homosexually and audaciously in love with him lol. He definitely tries to fuck himself out of his own gayness, which absolutely does not work, esp when he starts ending up gravitating to regular female whores to male whores who all bear a striking resemblance to his nephew.
Does Gojo know? Hmm yes but not really. It doesn't even cross his mind even though he is also very gay, and also knows incest is casually a normal thing in the Valyrian family. But to him, Aegon is his uncle, and also a man in a 'don't say gay' world, so he kind of intentionally doesn't look too deeply into it. He does notice Egg is very attached to him, but he's not sure how much of that is familial and platonic and just Egg's very handsy personality versus romantic. They played a lot together as kids, slept in the same bed etc back when they were young enough it didn't mean anything, and obviously Gojo never felt that way about what he thought was a 'cute sticky dumpling of a kid who thinks he hung the moon' so it'll be a longgg and difficult shift for him to see Egg in any other way.
Aemond worships him in a strictly platonic sense that totally feeds his god complex. Gojo is literally the warrior reborn to him. He's a one man army and everyone knows it and he's so out of any mortal's league instead of being jealous about it Aemond just straight up adores him like a god. Daemon and Laena don't get together in this fic (RIP Baela and Rhaena) so Laena is still alive and has Vhagar, so idk maybe Aemond has Vermithor.
On a related note, everyone worships him as a god (or a Valyrian devil, *ahem* Hightowers *ahem*) bc to them he may as well be one. He has all his OG powers, he's invincible and untouchable and literally unstoppable. He achieves infamy the world over during Stepstones Round 2 where he absolutely obliterates an entire army and a few islands besides. He straight up asks his 'grandfather' Corlys if he should just eradicate the whole island chain and permanently solve the problem. Of course, the story gets convoluted with the whole medieval 'he said she said' chain of communication so there are plenty of non-believers still. LOL jokes on them.
He adores Rhaenyra. Like he likes Laenor a lot, and is partial to his little brothers (yes Jace and Luke exist, idk if they're Laenor's or Daemon's yet tho. They would't be Harwins bc Rhaenyra took one look at Gojo and was like 'shit he's 100% Valyrian its gonna look weird as hell if his siblings dont look like him at all') and has a soft spot for his 'Uncle' Daemon, but the reason he even bothers to stick around and not just fuck off to Essos to raise his own empire is because of her. I headcanon Gojo to have zero relationship with his parents in JJK - which unfortunately is expected from 'the patriarch' aka his father, but deeply hurt him in regards to his mother, who also cared nothing for him. Yes total double standard, but that's patriarchy for you. Anyway Rhaenyra is the opposite - she cherishes him from day 1, and whether that's because she truly loved him at first sight or just loved the idea of a child of hers and Daemon's who knows. But she doted on him and took care of him in a way anomalous for mother's in Westeros, and Gojo always took note of that. He'd burn the world for her - or in this instance, cower it into submission so she can have her throne in peace.
He doesn't mind playing the 'radiant prince' for her, being the faultless and impossibly perfect heir to the throne, because he knows it strengthens her claim immeasurably when his achievements so obviously outshine her direct competitor (Egg, who in fact does not give a shite about the throne and just wants to run away on his dragon with Soren). He even quietly submits himself to the idea of taking a wife because he knows that's also expected of him, although he plans on copying Laenor and having some threesome magic going on. Will that have to come to pass though? Hmm idk yet
THERE WILL BE ZOMBIES. No Night King, but I absolutely believe that Gojo accidentally would become the Prince who was Promised. His birth once again upsets the balance of yet another world, and shifts events into motion that would have laid dormant otherwise. Does he bring magic back into world with his birth? That would be interesting. Idk yet tho.
I also believe in the Maester conspiracy, so that might be in this fic too

What are the recommended works of literature by the coquette community?
well im glad u asked here are some books NOT on coquette booktok (and one that is)
u have to read lolita by nabokov thats what kickstarted the subculture a difficult but beautiful read nabokov is a true word smith and theres only one other author who crafts imagery on his level
and that author is TONI MORRISON. if you want a book on female friendships, isolation, magical realism and truly unhinged female characters read sula. this is my favorite book of alllll time truly nothing comes close at all the titular character is so interesting is blunt and sensual and odd just like her best friend nel and this is a book i have to read to truly experience
if you loved lolita and want a story similar but about black girls read the bluest eye. this has two major TWs of csa and rape but toni does an amazing job at unpacking generational trauma, cruelty, colorism and desirability and how that effects young black girls esp dark skin black girls. i recommend it to non black coquettes all the time bc some (a lot) of them need to learn some empathy for their black sisters
bonkour tristesse is a quick summer read written by an actual 17 year old in the 1960s about a young girl living a bohemian life with her father until he behins dating her deceased mothers best friend and and she does anything she can to stop it. i read this in a day it was so fun and the author being a teen when she wrote it gives the main character and interesting voice
the moth diaries which i just finished like 4-5 hrs ago is a sapphic gothic novel set in a boarding and day school focusing on the boarding students and their isolated existence its really good def a psychological thriller and you’re left unsure what is real and what is the unnammed narrators psychosis. you can feel her slowly losing her sanity on the pages
stolen by lucy christopher is an older YA novel abt a young girl kidnapped by an older handsome man who she develops stockholm syndrome for. its told with the framing device of a letter its all in past tense and its set in the australian desert so lots of tension here
a book i just started but im already finding interesting in innocents by cathy cootes about a young australian girl who traps her teacher in a relationship and u are nottttt supposed to like this girl but ur intrigued by her shes very demented LOL
audition by ryu murakami is what the infamous movie is based on iykyk if not its about a man who holds “auditions” for the perfect girlfriend and instead gets a psychotic young woman
la batarde by violette leduc is a 1960s autobiography about a woman who reflects on how being born out of wedlock tainted the rest of her life
little birds and delta of venus by anais nin are a series of erotic short stories she wrote for a dollar a page on 1940s france for legal reasons i recommend this to ppl 18+
their eyes were watching god is an absolutely stunning take on black girlhood and womanhood set in early 1900s written in the black floridian dialect at the time it does so well at preserving that culture and showing the trials of being a black woman and its a very romantic and lush book one of my favs
o caledonia which is a gothic scottish book set in the 1940s it opens with the death of the main character and we follow the journey it takes her to get there and it’s supremely haunting
the blacker the berry another tale of black girlhood this time in the northern american stares in the early 1900s very insightful tale of a young woman dealing with love and coming of age as a dark skin woman
the lover the (mostly) true auto biography by maurgarite duras about her time in saigon as a poor french teen and the complexities of relationship with an older vietnamese man as well as her complicated interactions with her family & (sexual) feelings for her best friend
flowers in the attic a classic gothic tale about a young woman who is forced to live in the attic of her familys large estate with her 3 siblings and its as bad as u think it is
we have always lived in the castle is a gothic mystery about the 3 surviving blackwoods and the incident 6 years prior that isolated them from the town
emma by jane austen is a classic truly we all know it we all love it and even i enjoyed it and im a perpetual reader of doom and gloom
lady chatterlys lover is one of the most notorious victims of britans whole obscenity thing and its about a relationship between an upperclass woman and a working class man
wuthering heights is another gothic classic i highly suggest reading
and these are (some of) the more underrated books ive seen in my p much 10 years of being here the coquette literature canon is always expanding and growing
and fuck sylvia plath 🫶🏽

Headcanons for all the survivors gender/sexuality
Wilson- Just Kinda decided he was gonna be a boy when he was like 8 and his dad was so desperate for an heir that didn’t want him dead to rights he just kinda let it happen. would fuck anyone but at the same time is not interested at all
Willow- Butch-ish but more in a tomboy kinda way. genuinely likes wearing skirts and more feminine clothing but doesn’t really think she deserves to? if that makes sense? (She doesn’t really feel like a genuine legit girl) hardcore lesbian.
Wolfgang- Very traditionally masculine but in the “My job is to protect and take care of everyone” and not the “im a man so I can do whatever I want” type way. Gay but could totally be in a lavender relationship/marriage and have no problems w/ it
WX-78- Born a cis female, figured out early on that wasn’t right but couldn’t change it until they were an adult. Transed their gender but then figured out being a male wasn’t right either. eventually found someone who felt similarly and abandoned their flesh for the machine. solidly aroace. they’re triple a (agender, asexual, aromantic) just like batteries
Wickerbottom- cis female and “traditionally” feminine, has never felt the need to explore or question it. Used to be married to a man who was secretly gay and looking for someone similarly emotionally unavailable. He has since passed but left wicker a small fortune so. alls well that ends well ig
Wes- kind of a stereotypical femme twink. The kinda gay whos loud and proud and will hit you with a brick if you have a problem with that. feels obligated to help the others try and figure themselves out- esp the ones who are more in denial abt it
Maxwell- I think the idea that max is trans and Jack is cis and they turned out looking the exact same is hilarious. Technically the only ppl who knows he’s trans are jack and charlie- their parents just think he’s a masculine woman and everyone else knows him as a man. Bi and so so weak for bears and gently bossy women.
Wendy- Non-binary but still in the process of realizing it. Does not give a single shit abt romance but would totally be qpp with Webber once they know what that means.
Woodie- Probably Not Cis but has too much religious trauma to even dare questioning himself. He’s like JUST accepted the fact that he’s gay (still thinks hes going straight to hell but we’re working on that) so ynknow baby steps. baby steps. Deffo has a shit ton of body dysphoria due to the wereforms tho
Webber- Since spiders work a lil different in the constant (probably more like bees) there are like three genders Webber could potentially see themselves as. Drone, warrior, and queen. During his childhood he thinks of himself mostly as a drone but as he gets older and his sway over the spiders increases they’ll shift into seeing themselves as more of a queen. But other that he’s pretty much whatever non-spider gender is most convenient. Definitely bi.
Wigfrid- her gender is… strange. What she outwardly presents is her character’s way of presenting herself so ig I see her as kinda fluid? Idk valiant-valkyrie if ur reading this you can probably do a better job of explaining it. you are the defacto wigfrid authority. Definitely lesbian but once again will do whatever the role requires
Winona- Solidly butch lesbian. Definitely a caretaker and a protector but in the butch kinda way and not the femme kinda way. if that makes sense.
Wurt- Butch but hasn’t really realized it yet. does not think human genders apply to her bcs she’s a merm and will 100% be king when she grows up. baby lesbiab. her and wilba’s eventual union shall bring peace to the pig/merm kingdoms once and for all
Wortox- human genders do not apply to him. They are whatever is most convenient at the time. Fluid like loki and bugs bunny.
Walter- if xenogenders existed back then he would totally be like pupgender/buggender. Non-binary but has no problem being called a boy/man. Would be fine with any prns but people have only ever used he/him for him. Probably going to be a monsterf*cker when he grows up.
Wormwood- He is plant. Plants have sexes but no genders and wormwood is intersex anyway but they kinda just chose the first option presented to him once he found the others. Loves all but has absolutely no interest or idea about non-plant reproductive activities.
Walani- Yknow that “as a girl who’s a gross dude men who are fancy ladies are my best friends”? Yeah that’s her and Warly. she’s the emotional support golden retriever to warly’s high-strung cheetah. Lesbian but like. endearingly loser lesbian who’s only ever smooth when she’s not trying to be.
Warly- as mentioned before he is very much a guy who is a fancy lady. Would probably do drag if he had the chance and would 100% be the baddest bitch who makes all the men question their sexuality. Gay and european.
Wanda- doesn’t have time for all that gender questioning bullshit she just wants to kiss women.
Wheeler- Solid futch, leans more feminine or masculine depending on the situation. Woman-leaning bisexual, has probably fucked someone wife and inadvertently caused a divorce.
Woodlegs- pretty solidly cis male but 100% an embarrassing old gay grandpa. Doesn’t know much abt the terminology but is incredibly supportive and was definitely a homewrecker back in the day. Probably got out of at least one arrest by seducing the naval officer meant to bring him in
Wilba- high femme and definitely a baby lesbian. I do really like the idea of her being trans just because why not so why not. She and wurt are fat femme x fat butch once they grow up
Wagstaff- born as a girl but realized he hated it and made attempts to transition early on. Eventually ran away to America to fully transition. Non-binary too but hasn’t realized it yet and just thinks that everyone feels weird when someone calls them mr or sir. men-liker and old man yaoi certified
Wilbur- yes I’m doing the monkey. Gender is a strange concept to him, so he just kinda calls himself male bcs apparently he is? He doesn’t really understand it but it seems to be pretty important in human society so he’ll do it if it means he gets respected as an actual person and not just some sideshow.

okay, gonna try to actually make a decent plotting call this time which i've been meaning to do for awhile but was mobile when i came off hiatus SO here we go here's the short version (long version is after the read more thingy): looking for long-term writing partners who will match my energy and excitement about our plots and characters (surprisingly hard to find for some reason????) and hopefully if we vibe ooc & ic then we can just be fuckin rp besties who throw plots and muses at each other w/o a second thought and luv writing together<33 rn i'm dying for more f/f plots but i'm also fine with m/f and m/m esp if we have multiple plots sooooo pls hit that like button or (preferably) slide into my dms even if we've previously talked / tried to plot / have written together before pls still hmu idc if one of us dropped off the face of the earth i get it life happens :)
OK SO. 21+ and discord only pls. i'm semi-selective now just bc i want ppl who match my energy/excitement about our plot/characters like if u give me nothing to work with in ur replies i'll probs not respond. i'm v v comfortable writing smut (even kinky, taboo kind of shit) but pls don't take that as a deal breaker i'm cool with no smut/fade to black just lemme know :) (also just a warning - i luv hurting my muses so most of them have shitty/potentially triggering backstories but they're still my babies and they r very well thought out) i'm gonna just list particular plots/pairings i've been thinkin bout lately but shit definitely isn't restricted to just these they're just ones i've been rly wanting to write
plots/verses:
zombie apocalypse (the walking dead preferably but also tlou)
twitch streamers best friends to lovers
love island but like... make it f/f
hogwarts????
outer banks (not the dumbass treasure hunting plot but just like the verse of obx)
best friend's older brother/sister
boyfriend's gf x boyfriend's sister
fake dating turned actually in love w each other
student x TA or professor (in college so legal age gap)
effy x cook from skins vibes
THIS
protective gf x golden retriever dumbass bf
i got a lot of traumatized af male muses so if u wanna play a female muse against any of them lmk
probs more but i don't wanna make this super long
pairings/fcs (bold is who i wanna play):
kie x sarah (obx)
madison bailey x madelyn cline
courtney eaton x any girl fc
sabrina carpenter x any girl fc
madelyn cline x anyone
danielle rose russell x kaylee bryant
danielle rose russell x any girl fc

okay more thoughts on pride and prejudice as i begin chapter 39
1 i want to see lady catherine, mrs. bennet, and miss bingley in the same room together on a podcast panel debating things like marriage and childrearing etc but i dont think the world would be able to handle it
2 i’m interpreting mr. darcy as either being neurodivergent (possibly autistic) and/or having severe social anxiety — and this is really informing my entire perspective of his character (as a core theme to his character is being socially understood/misunderstood). however, i know its still very controversial to “diagnose” fictional characters and i don’t want to come off that way — but historical complications aside (the field of psychology didn’t exist back then how it does now) it’s really obvious to see that he’s not neurotypical, although i don’t know if this is an accepted thing in the austen world though!
3 i’m not buying that mr. darcy’s letter was only 2 pages long. 3 pages minimum with tiny handwriting maybe.
4 this entire novel really highlights the importance of social communication more than anything imo
5 mr. collins is fucking hilarious and his interactions with elizabeth are so accurate/relatable of what it’s like to deal with oblivious men as a female, esp. men who dont know how to take a hint — i was actually laughing out loud through his entire proposal sequence, especially at the line where it says elizabeth is trying hard not to laugh too. so familiar.
6 i wish we could see more of charles i actually like him — i also like colonel fitzwilliam and kind of wanted him to marry elizabeth - its kind of hilarious how casual the topic of marriage is with people you’ve just met & i really want to read more about regency history on marriage specifically now to figure out how much is embellished for satire purposes & how much is true to life
7 i have many thoughts on wickham but thats for a separate post
8 from what little i’ve read about p&p analysis/consensus so far, it seems mrs bennet and some other characters have already been torn to shreds over lit history to the point that its become more common to defend them & mrs bennet in particular, which i understand bc she’s supposed to be a satire on women of the time period but of course her concerns are valid and there are real economic reasons for her actions and societal norms that pertain to them. i’ve also read that it’s common for people to prefer mr bennet over his wife and to pit them against each other which can lead into misogyny & i can see this. however (im sure the bennet family ends up happy at the end, but at this point in the story) i think there are valid reasons for these interpretations which lead people to like mr bennet more than mrs bennet. after the ordeal with collins i really lost respect for mrs bennet for threatening to disown eliza & treating her so harshly, and i gained respect for mr bennet for sticking by eliza. i continuously defended mrs bennet and her behavior up until the collins proposal. i understand she’s desperate for eliza to marry so that she doesn’t become destitute etc. but mr collins simply isnt an ideal husband
9 eliza’s feelings on her friend marrying collins are so sad and relatable of how all of us feel when we watch a friend or loved one enter a shitty relationship and/or betray themselves or lose a part of their personality + the idea of having to mourn your friend especially upon growing up etc. but particularly as it relates to the lonely woman’s experience of finding one’s friends starting to center males & prioritize romance over friendship the older you get.
hope some of this is semi-intelligible - i save the grammar for my real essays - but felt like rambling
i think in my last post i was spelling “bennet” as “bennett” so i apologize for that lol - pls dont kill me janeites, i’m new here!!!

No but Billy being friends with girls is so in character for him. He feels threatened by men, no matter what age (Lucas, Steve, Neil) , I don't think at the point in the show he can be truly comfortable around a man
He barely feels comfortable around women. He wants the attention of older women bc of his mommy issues but he needs maternal attention not the sexual kind Karen and other moms give him. Similar with girls his age, they're attracted to him, he wants to be attractive to them so the only thing they want from him is sex
Like when I think how messed up this boy is that the only thing he knows in his life is violence and sex
The only non-sexual non-threatening relationship in his life that he gives a shit about is Max. And as much as Neil forces Billy to be her babysitter, there is still that part of him that tried to protect his mom when Neil was yelling at her, and he wants to protect Max. I believe he's a protector at heart and if he had more time on the show or was written differently we'd see more of those qualities. Even tho we see some of them anyway!
I also believe he sees himself in Max as much as he sees his mom. He and Max are really similiar after all
Which brings me to my post ages ago that Billy has a lot of tropes that are usually reserved for female characters (being a "sex symbol", oversexualising himself, fashion icon, crying a lot, his abusive dad specifically insults his looks, etc)
And I just think it's interesting and totally believe if he made any friends it would be either with women or people who aren't usually masculine. I don't think he could ever be friends with any of the jocks, he wouldn't be fully himself, at least not in the point of the show
Anyway it's not a serious analysis post or anything. I just wanted to make a point that the hc we have about Billy being besties with Heather or Chrissy are so on point for his character bc I believe he would be able to open up more to women (esp ones who aren't attracted to him). And Steve (or even Eddie) bc they don't fall into your usual manly men and stereotype and esp Steve thru the show becomes more emotionally mature. So Billy would feel safe around him
Also Billy would hate Jason, are you kidding me

one of the most significant criticisms i see of talia always is that her only personality trait was loving bruce. and i’m not going to deny that denny o’neil restricted her progression as a character in a lot of ways but that aside i think there was genuinely so much to explore with her as a character outside of her love for bruce like there was her loyalty to her father there was the fact that she adamantly refused to kill innocents but wouldn’t hesitate to kill the direct murderers of people she loved there was the fact that she tired of being used as a pawn by her father or as a bargaining chip by bruce in their distinct pursuits of justice but she was nonetheless happy to throw herself into the line of fire if it meant doing some good herself. those are all things you can notice about her as a character if you care and that same general concept applies to nearly every female character you can find in older comics even the most abysmally treated ones like mera, for example. so it’s always a very eye-catching thing for me to see people say that talia or any of these women lacked any complexity prior to the 00s bc it immediately tells me the lack of dedication they have to engaging with women in fiction (esp women they’re predisposed to dislike on account of ship wars)

Top 5 female characters in MK?
For me personally
1. Mileena: More her OG backstory than her current one. I like her but she's not nearly as compelling to me. But GOD I just love Mileena's older story/story concepts and I wish they had gotten proper development. The concept of exploring identity and one's perception of themselves through clones is something I'M SUCH A SUCKER FOR. And its mostly because of Mileena. I love the tragedy of her character, her rivalry with Kitana, her designs, RRRAAGAGHAHAG I love Mileena
2. Kitana: She used to be my favorite but I've grown to like Mileena just a wee bit more. I really do love Kitana so much though. Her original backstory is just SO compelling and tragic to me. Having been raised by the man who conquered her home, lead her mother to suicide, cloned her, and manipulated her his whole life is just so fucked up but it leads to such interesting character writing if done right. And a lot of ppl gave her flak for this stuff, but I do really like that she could be cruel, brutal, cold. She was raised by a realm conquering tyrant ffs why wouldn't she be? It makes her so much more compelling when she struggles to be better, and I REALLY wish NRS delved into this more in MK11
3. Sindel: I was gonna put Jade as 3, but ngl I find myself a bit more compelled to the original concept of Sindel more than Jade. I love her so much. Her story, her relationship with her daughter, her benevolence, and her kindness. And to top it all off, she had the appearance of a typical evil queen. BUT WASN'T. I know that isn't the most special thing, but seeing this older woman in dark, brooding, and draggy makeup be a genuinely kind and well-meaning person is so special to me
4. Jade: Honestly, I don't have as much to say about Jade, but I still love her dearly. Her loyalty is admirable, and the princess/gaurd dynamic between her Kitana is top tier. I love princess/gaurd dynamics so much. And I really do admire how deeply she cares for her best friend. I do wish they'd let her do more outside of Kitana (that isn't a relationship with Skrotal) but ig she IS a satellite character, so it's to be expected
5. Skarlet: Tough choosing between Skarlet and Tanya, but I think Skarlet appeals to me just a wee bit more. The tragedy aspect to her has a lot of potential. I like the idea of Skarlet's loyalty to Shao being her downfall. She's so stuck in her ways and refuses to see his faults, and he becomes the one indirectly (or even directly maybe) responsible for her demise. Skarlet was so devoted to Shao it was too late for her to turn back. I think I like her bc there's a lot of interesting ideas they could do with her, plus the blood magic. The blood magic is very cool, and I like how they utilized it with her (even if she herself was poorly utilized)
Honorable mentions would be Tanya, Li Mei Sonya, Cassie, and Jacqui. Also, I have grown to think D'Vorah was pretty cool despite not liking some of the choices they made (Hanzo.....)
And I'm interested to see where they take Ashrah even though I'm not really a big fan of the new MK lore. And also PLEASE let them do something with Nitara. And give her a better default design, I am NOT feeling the Hershey kiss hair
Not an honorable mention because she was boring as hell, but god...Cetrion's designs/costumes (esp her lava based one) were so good and she was so gorgeous. Too bad they did fuckall with her

Your posts on One Piece kinda got me to absorb it through reading the wikia and watching clips on YouTube and I really love your posts/fics on it…
But I WISH I had gotten into One Piece. I was always aware of it my whole life bc of older brothers who read/watched it but I was always turned off by it cause 1) pirates aren’t really my thing and 2) it’s hard for me to watch anime when the female characters are drawn like…that
Like I’m fine with a little fan service but the absolute ridiculous boob to waist ratio of some female characters and the hyper sexualization always turned me off, especially with how they are drawn after the time skip
Actually I kinda apply this to any anime I’m slightly interested in. It can be the most awesome story ever but if the female characters are more jerk off material than a character then it’s hard to watch (I could only stand ONE episode of Seven Deadly Sins cause in the very first episode the ugly ass MC was groping the unconscious female lead)
(Also side note but YouTube once recommended me a vid of a guy rating the One Piece female characters’ boobs…anyways sometimes I hate real men)
Yeah, One Piece and most mainstream manga (esp shonen) is good if you can stomach overt misogyny. And if you personally don't want to watch something with oversexualization and misogynist character design/characterization, that's absolutely understandable. Personally I'd recommend some shojo titles like A Sign of Affection, QQ Sweeper, Yona of the Dawn, etc if you want to look into manga that is often less sexist. I promise it isn't all romance if you aren't into that lol. If you want a good primer on shojo manga and anime, I recommend Colleen on YT. Just look up "Colleen + shojo manga" and you'll find them.
It also doesn't help that most men just turn their brains off and go a little apeshit if you even lightly criticize a series for being misogynist. Like being a woman who likes Berserk is stomach churning and God forbid you criticize how rape is used in it narratively and how Casca is written in particular. Nothing makes you hate male weebs like interacting with them regularly lol.
Also I guarantee the vid you're talking about is the one by Tekking101. Tbh I have a weird affection for the guy since he's cringe in a nostalgic way, I watched his Bleach videos all the time when I was younger. Still, he's still a man who's really into One Piece and thus his videos tend to be a little coombrained.
Also if you like sexy women who do show off their bodies but also are interesting and not just fapbait, I recommend Dorohedoro! It's written by a woman and is badass.

I think that ship is really ruining things for both characters and rotting the brains, because I keep seeing people invent a 42 varint of gwen solely for the purpose of shipping her with the other Miles...like that literally all she seems good for to them huh...to be shipped with him. A character being reduced to a love interest for a man. Literally the issue people had with her character in the first place. Not to mention, 42 variant Miles entire story and background, which I feel will tie strongly into his culture/community which will be highly afro centric...is being ignored and made all about a white girl. Do they not see the issues and weird implications?
Given I honestly don't think that's the way they'll handle his story...it's still annoying to see people push for it because like...is that all you got from the story? Are y'all even paying attention to what the movies are doing and trying to tell you? (Given there's still issues there, but the overall theme/message is clear)
agreed. i'm staying the hell out of main spiderverse fandom discussion bc there are too many terminally online kids using purity politics as an excuse to control fanspaces, but the way the fandom treats gwen these days makes my blood boil. she's either hated for having flaws and trying to be her own person, or put on a pedestal as the Perfect Girlfriend Whose Entire Existence Revolves Around Miles.
even in older spider-gwen fandom spaces, now you can't have a single conversation about her without a flood of new people bursting in and insisting that we make it All About Gwiles. like... i hate gatekeeping! i'm happy more people care about gwen now! but ffs do you care about gwen, or do you care about gwiles?
(it's the latter. they care about gwiles. they don't see gwen as a person, they see her as a person's girlfriend with no purpose when her boyfriend isn't in her presence or on her mind. and/or as a vessel to project themselves into a relationship with miles.)
as for why... most of the people in this fandom haven't read the comics at all or the most they've seen is three pages from sitting in a tree out of context, or they've read the inaccurate fan-operated wikis. all they're going off of is the movies, where gwen being The Girlfriend is framed as a positive, subversive thing. so to them, gwen getting to have powers, date spider-man and live feels progressive in comparison to tasm gwen, because they have no clue what her narrative actually is. and as far as they know, gwen and miles are a perfect couple who have no better romantic interests.
(again i don't like gatekeeping! if you move into a new neighborhood, you shouldn't have to make your house look like your neighbors', but if none of them have a basement, you should probably talk to them to figure out if digging one's gonna make your damn house collapse i before you start ripping up the foundation.)
i also blame fandom being fandom. no matter how subversive the source material they are fans of, even if the fandom's not dominated by white guys, fandom will always reflect the same bullshit from greater society. same racism, same sexism, same homophobia, just often under a layer of progressive paint. same disregard of female characters unless they support a more popular male character. same surface-level championing of diversity and inclusion... while characters of color are both ignored / stereotyped / tokenized and fetishized / sanded down to be more palatable to a presumably-white audience (the same applies for queer characters). like, the same shit's happening in the spiderverse fandom.
as for gwen 42... yeah i'm not loving how the fandom took the possibility of her existing and immediately made her into a darker edgier girlfriend for miles. really? that's the most you can imagine?
(... esp considering if earth-42 is similar to earth-1610 in that there was a peter parker spider-man before miles, odds are gwen-42 is 30something and long dead. and even if she isn't, why does she have to be attached to miles in any way?)

the buckingham tag is so dry like i’m rereading fics for like the second and third time it’s so sad 😭 ronance out here sucking the life outa all my ships fr
but fr straight girls have a stranglehold on gay male ships. st isn’t my first fandom (i was a teenager during the superwholock days 👵🏻) so what’s they’re doing to steddie is just par for the course. my theory is that gay men aren’t a threat to straight women so they project all their lovey dovey sappy shit onto those relationships bc they can’t get that from straight men
it’s the same for lesbians. straight women are the reason the predatory dyke trope exists and straight men are responsible for every other bullshit dyke trope. i tolerate buckingham fics written by straights but barely
They really do! I think a lot of queer people in fandom end up finding their little niche with other queer fans, and then forget that like, sooooo many straight girls end up in mlm fandom spaces. Like sure, some of those straight girls often end up neither straight nor girls as they get older, but plenty of them stay straight girls too lol.
And ooh that's an interesting theory. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a big part of it. I always tend to lean more towards the misogyny aspect of it, where we've been taught to look down on female characters so much that a lot of people esp straight girls have trouble connecting with female characters, but also still wanna be able to project onto ships. Which is how you get mlm ships where fandom has decided one has to be the "girl" and the other the "boy".
Also I don't blame you at all for the lack of trust lmao. Some of the shit people write in this fandom even trying to be progressive.... People out here recreating stereotypes I stg.
I hope you get some more buckingham food soon *prayer emoji* (I'm on my laptop rn lol).

manhwa anon - omg didnt expect to get a special cla rec list thank you!! 😭🩷 i cant really describe what tropes are my favorite because i am a total newbie but from the few i’ve read: i also LOVE villainess tropes, esp. those with smart and cunning fl (im currently reading villainess turns hourglass, obsessed with the fl she’s so evil and smart, and not really a villainess but think navier of remarried empress- her brain is just so huge ugh im in love)
another aspect i like is when the story focuses a lot on imperial politics and high society strategizing etc, i find it really fascinating!! basically the heavier, more dramatic stuff, as opposed to light topics & fluffy romance all throughout the story :3
if you have any !!must read!! recs for beginners pls also share, even if they dont fit those tropes!!! 🫶
sorry this took a lot but my mental illness went downhill these days
i've already mentioned my faves i think but i can go a little further. you've already mentioned navier who's a real queen, but when it comes to scheming main characters I can mention:
The Villainess Is A Marionette: the setting is a bit all over the place with the inspiration but the art is gorgeous and both she and her twin brother are schemers and tbh even if he is the villain sometimes I feel like siding with him ahah. There's a lot of intrigue and court factions in it!
The Way To Protect The Female Lead's Older Brother: i am in love with this webtoon, not only the art is gorgeous, everyone in it is kinda insane. The fl doesn't want to be a villainess but has to become it in order to survive and isn't she an amazing villainess? I also somehow really love the male lead, I like when they deviate from the buff guy stereotype, he has a very youthful vibe (and I loved that he was a prisoner of the fl's family at the beginning of the story). I also love the other male lead and I normally despise the second guy very bad, but tbh as someone who read the ending of the novel I personally wouldn't know who I was really hoping to win in the end. Anyway, if you like gothic and a little gory themes and a lot of scheming this is also very pretty.
The Broken Ring: I really like the female lead so much, she's one of my favorite in existence. When you read villainess webtoons, most of them are just normal girls who end up a villainess and conquer everyone with their charm/sweetness, but in this case she is a girl who gets to live her life for the third time and after suffering in both the previous lives she is quite tired and just wants to marry her 'no thoughts in that pretty head' chosen husband and live on her own. There's not that much of a plot with adventures and kidnapping but I love that it has a very mature feel.
The Villainess Lives Twice: if you like the fl of villainess turns the hourglass you will also like her. The plot does sometimes get a little unbelievable but there's a lot of politics and intrigues and going to ballrooms to make connections, I definitely recommend but don't expect a very how can I say refined plot.
I tamed my ex husband's mad dog: I thought it was a little strange at the beginning bc it's one of those adopting a very cute weak teenager and then he grows up to be my knight who loves me and I can't control him anymore damn, and when they meet he's 16 and she's 25, but ACTUALLY I'll put the spoiler after a few lines bc idk how to write it in white so you can avoid it ;;
apparently the guy is a isekai returnee as well? So he was just pretending to be a child after reincarnating?
Do of this what you want. Anyway they're both kinda selfish and trying to use the other for their selfish reasons in the end.
The Princess Imprints a Traitor: this is also one of those stories that are about a returnee who comes back and tries to change the past. She's absolutely not a villainess, but I like how smart she is, how she protects her people, and how she goes hard into politics because the only way to save everyone would be becoming crown princess and changing things herself. Also the plot is very unique, with magic and alchemy and spellbound servants who serve their masters in bed? Although she's too noble so she refuses lol
Isn't Being a Wicked Woman Much Better? I live for people who become a villainess and decide to keep living as a villainess. She's smarter than everyone, she's rich, she has power, I just hope she can leave everyone penniless and enjoy herself forever.
I'll be the matriarch in this life/I shall master this family: she's not exactly a villainess but after returning from the dead Florentia is the most scheming and business savvy 5yo and then 8yo and then 12yo in existence. I've been waiting for her to grow up for two seasons and I can't wait for her to show me what she can do in the next seasons as well. It's more light-hearted compared to everything I've recced until now but I think it's a top read and I love the fl <3
This got very long but if you send me another ask I might do a part two!

u know ironically i think playing alisaie has helped give me a more positive impression of the rpc which is nice. (not that i rlly had a particularly negative one anw, but i usually write older masc muses KJNEMRH.) writing a female muse who literally thrives entirely off of platonic interactions bc she can’t be romantically shipped with 99% of the characters i write with has kinda shown me that ppl in the rpc care a lot more about platonic interactions than a loud minority would lead ppl to believe like honestly i think alisaie is prob one of my busiest blogs just under my main KNERHM i feel like the rpc has such a bad rep when it comes to female muses and esp unshippable muses but honestly just. reaching out to people and having as much passion for writing platonic relationships as romance relationships has gotten abt as emotional a reception as writing romance ships w my adult male muses.
like idk i think it’s worth being optimistic sometimes and just acknowledging that part of the problem is prob at least a little bit that some ppl with negative experiences don’t put as much energy or love into their platonic ships / storylines as they do romantic ones. if you scream abt them with the same amount of passion, the average rper you’re writing with is probably going to end up caring as much as you do imo

Are Abraham and Mauren on good terms when she and Roswell move into the city? Does Abraham know Damian is dating his son?
It's complicated! Esp bc this story is like in a constant flux of being written and rewritten and tweaked over and over. Basically Mauren and Abraham's relationship was very much for the convenience of it all, he needed to marry bc it's an expectation of the kingdom he's from. He had too many siblings for him to ever be a proper king or anything so the most he was used for was as a kinda marriage tool or kid maker tool to make deals with other kingdoms. Said kingdom also puts a lot of stock into male and female Roles in marriage so romance is never really a necessity, someone just needs to play the male role, the female role and somehow they need to be able to have kids, any "oddities" within that are to be kept private ect. I think I ended up calling it the Sycamore kingdom but again we're working on it, I would like to find an alternate to a kingdom structure for these. Either way it's directly related to the rose church, Victor's kingdom (the one Roswell ended up being married into), the thorn church and the cult which all hold the same belief on gender performance.
Abraham also couldn't be more obviously a closeted gay man, deeply repressed. Mauren wanted a better life and marrying into a kingdom could offer that, they happened to be on neutral terms so it just worked out as a marriage, in the job sense of the word. Erm anyway she loves Roswell, Abraham was a wildly absent father, he was also fixated on getting approval from the high daemon and from humans bc the church he's from also prioritizes minimizing being a demon as much as possible. dude's got 500 complexes. He leaves the kingdom when Roswell's like. an older teen, probably. Bc he had a big awful breakdown and declawed + detailed himself and since that him and Mauren haven't had contact.
Also rewriting how and why he ends up at the city and in a power position but it's kind of just like. He was aimless, he has only ever been raised to be in power positions and after the breakdown and having a couple stints pretending to be a preacher in a human church, he just kinda resigns back into a familiar job ect. Most of his character is him being very detached to his emotions and roles, only interrupted by those occasional breakdowns where his displeasure towards himself and demons and the effects of the church really come to a head. But yknow instead of dealing with those in a healthy way like other characters in the story who come from similar places do, the frequency of those breakdowns just kinda escalates and he gets more violent right.
When Mauren and Roswell get to the city it's crazy tense, Abraham is clearly different but he was always very distant feeling and he would have little to no reaction to seeing them again. He can't really comment on Roswell abandoning his role after all, he also can't comment on Roswell being gay because that was already known, it was part of the marriage bargain since there weren't other options for Victor in terms of political marriage. That being said, he cannot stand Damian lmao. It's pretty much the embodiement of everything he fundamentally despises about demons and is further enraged that they have killed a High Daemon before (Victor). I've said it before but Damian is consistently pinned as marked by the third god by the church Abraham is related to, they're very beastly and that's a particular trait these church demons really really want to get away from. Mainly bc the alienation in this story is based on if your species has a God source, every species that is particularly put down is one without a clear source, so their existence is constantly questioned, Demons are the clearest example of it, they're seen as without identity, seen as animalistic shapeshifters. The church demons Basically are in a state of trying to be as human as possible. High Daemon are another thing bc they're godsent but most Church Demons aren't trying to emulate that. It's also one of those things where the church demons, and Particularly Abraham, are aware that they are also doomed in a sense, so they do live in a state of self destruction, crushing others and justifying it as if it'll save them. It's not something Mauren would agree with anymore, or something Roswell ever did. Him leaving took a lot and he tried very hard to bring Mauren out with him because she's the type to be like. Well it could have been worse, I should just be grateful for the amount I have and not really wanting for better. yknow.
Idk when Damian and Roswell really start getting close or anything but I think by that point Abraham barely registers he has a son and he cannot stand Damian so they're both going to be off his radar for the most part.
