They are both loving, goofy people with a tough side. Oda killed them both off before they could meet because he knew they would be too strong of a couple

They both have a marine background, found unruly children and decided to be parents. They are also arguably the best mother and father in the series on their own. Not to mention they both left the world the same way too 😭 they deserve some happiness!

Height difference, she would make fun of him all the time.

This is very much a fix-it fic ship but I think about it a lot.

also now that i'm rewatching one piece, chopper's backstory hit me much harder than it did the first time around. i used to remember nami's and mostly robin's as the saddest ones, and sad they certainly are, but now i think chopper's is the most moving, and i think it's mainly due to how we get to know dr hiriluk and his unbreakable idealism just as well as we see his relationship with chopper develop. he is the backstory character that has the most complete arc, imo, which made chopper's feelings regarding his past and the conclusion to his introduction arc resonate in a much deeper way than normal

The thing with Belle-Mère, and also Cora, is that they both knew they were going to die. I hadn't realised it in Belle-Mère's case until I was rereading her chapter the other day when looking at source material for a meta.

Maybe it was stubbornness, or maybe she knew her time was up. If she knew her time was up (and true, she almost guaranteed it was), then letting her kids know that she loves them and they are family is a complex gift.

Probably not the move I would've made. Nami was afraid of being alone, and she did end up being alone regardless. I wonder how she views her mother's sacrifice. I love Shanks' line at the graveyard of Whitebeard and Ace that he wished his captain sometimes knew when to retreat, when to be tactical. But, like Ace, he wouldn't back down.

It seems to be an ethos One Piece supports. Though, perhaps not.

RIP in peace to this SBS question, mangled beyond all recognition. Dishonorable mention AGAIN to the editors for making Oda sound like a jerk with the addition of “you’ve got it all wrong” and “isn’t it obvious?”

The question originally was “why is the kanji for ‘illness’ given the reading of ‘HAPPY?’” Oda simply responded that she’s telling the kid to remember how being sick makes you remember to appreciate the happiness you feel when you’re not sick.

I think I had a completely different interpretation of this line, so clearly the answer was not obvious. Usually only little kids’ questions get straightforward answers like this, and Oda tends to be very patient with his answers to them. Shame on the editors. It’s one thing to have to cover for your strange translation choices, but to literally put words into the author's mouth that he never said feels especially insulting.
