"I don't believe that who we are is ever set in stone. We are transitory creatures—every day, we wake up as someone new, changed just a little bit by the experiences of the day before. Who we were is always a part of us, but it doesn't determine who we are, nor who we can still become."

Whump Book Suggestion
I've been reading this new book that I found at Walmart. It's called Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith. The summary was interesting enough for me to give it a try, and OMG! The amount of whump in this book is both surprising and wonderful!
Do yourself a favor, buy it from the link provided below. I paid an extra $5 that I didn't need to by buying it in store, instead of buying it online. I hope you all enjoy!

A huge congratulations to client Crystal Smith! Her debut YA fantasy BLOODLEAF, the first in a trilogy, just sold to Cat Onder, publisher at HMH Books for Young Readers, in a major deal. It’s the story of a princess who, in order to win back her crown, must unravel a centuries-old mystery tying her to an enigmatic prince and the unquiet ghost of an ancient queen. It has ghosts, magic, romance, and more! Congrats, Crystal!

Bloodleaf review.
I liked this book. I can’t say I loved it just because it was so sad almost the entire time. I am partial to happy endings...or at least more than a second of happiness. This book was also so STRANGELY similar to the last one I read.
In this book, we follow Aurelia. She lives in a kingdom that hates witchcraft and punished anyone who uses witchcraft with death. She is this kingdoms princess and a witch. More technically, a blood mage. She’s preparing to leave to marry the prince of another kingdom. The marriage is to ensure peace between the two kingdoms. Before she can leave, she sees the death of the person who is supposed to be escorting her, a blood mage named Simon. In an attempt to save his life, she uses blood magic in front of nobles. They immediately turn on her and she’s forced to run with her brother, and a few other companions. But on her journey, she is betrayed again. We watch her struggle over and over again while she tries to survive and reach her goal.
I liked the story. I feel like this book has a unique magic system and a complex world build. I tend to really love books that have intense world builds that flow this well.
I dislike the same thing I did with the last book I read. There was a lot of repetition in the language. I find it annoying, and I wished there was a little more diversity among the vocabulary.
I disliked Tori’s. I knew the moment he was introduced that he was a snake. The ending tossed me through a loop, but it confirms that he is an asshole start to finish.
I like Zan. He’s a charming character that grew on me over time. At first, I was extremely wary of him but slowly I liked this character more and more.
If you’re interested in this book, check it out here:

This is a planned trilogy. One book title and date has been released: Greythorne to be released in 2020.
Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear what you want me to read next. I am currently reading Kingdom of Ash.
The reviews I’ve got coming up are: Damsel, Arcadia Falls, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn and The Night Circus.

Today I'm excited to spotlight one of this week's new releases... BLOODLEAF by  debut author, CRYSTAL SMITH!  BLOODLEAF by Crystal Smith Book 1 of the Bloodleaf Trilogy YA Fantasy ebook, Hardcover, Audiobook, 384 pages March 12, 2019 from HMH Teen Perfect for fans of RED QUEEN and UPROOTED, Crystal Smith’s debut novel, BLOODLEAF, is an imaginative retelling of the Grimm Fairy tale “The Goose Girl” that takes a ghostly mystery and sets it inside an epic fantasy world.Princess Aurelia is a prisoner to her crown and the heir that nobody wants. Surrounded by spirits and banned from using her blood-magic, Aurelia flees her country after a devastating assassination attempt. To escape her fate, Aurelia disguises herself as a commoner in a new land and discovers a happiness her crown has never allowed. As she forges new bonds and perfects her magic, she begins to fall for a man who is forbidden to rule beside her. But the ghosts that haunt Aurelia refuse to abandon her, and she finds herself succumbing to their call as they expose a nefarious plot that only she can defeat. Will she be forced to choose between the weight of the crown and the freedom of her new life? Add to Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Book Depository "OFTEN, WHEN SOMEONE SAYS THEY WANT TO PROTECT YOU, THEY ACTUALLY MEAN THEY WANT TO CONTROL YOU." -Bloodleaf Little Details I Love in the Bloodleaf Cover... Woven into the thorny silver swirls in Bloodleaf's cover are: - A Crown of Thorns - A Bare Tree With Roots - A Crescent Moon - A Raven - A Ribbon Tied In A Bow - A Castle and - A Dagger I really love when smaller objects are hidden (or in this case not so much hidden as integrated int0) book covers. This cover in particular gives you all the fairytale fantasy vibes with the crown and the castle, the dagger, and the bird. The font of the title is clean and crisp and doesn't overburden the beautiful details framing the lettering. I also love the white leaf with the droplet of blood.  "The strongest magic requires the greatest sacrifice." About the Author: Crystal Smith is a writer and artist who developed an early love of fantasy and fairy tales in a house full of sisters (six to be exact, plus one lonely brother) that continues despite her dad’s efforts to win her over to science fiction with readings of Ender’s Game and marathoning videotaped episodes of Star Trek: the Next Generation.Though born and raised in Utah, she spent grades 4 through 8 living in Napoleon Dynamite’s hometown of Preston, Idaho, in fiberglass dome building purchased by an eccentric grandfather. It was in Preston, at age ten, that she had her first story published: a one-page story of a prince rescuing a princess from a monster, printed in a local anthology. It was at that point she realized how much she wanted to publish again—only the next time, it would be the princess rescuing everybody. After moving back to Utah, she met her high school sweetheart in her sophomore English class; they married in 2005 and now have two sons. She’s convinced that one is a middle-aged British gentleman in an 10-year-old’s body, and that the 7-year-old probably belongs in the jungle. After attending Weber State University on an art scholarship, she discovered she wasn’t well suited to modern art and threw herself wholeheartedly into wedding photography. As an unabashed love story enthusiast, capturing connection and chemistry is what moves her to writing and art. Connect with Crystal Online:  Twitter | Instagram | Website | Goodreads

📖 Fave book?
Oh, this is a hard one. I have so many. Right now though I'll have to say 'Bloodleaf' by Crystal Smith. It was a accidental find, but I absolutely love it! And the best part is...it's going to be a trilogy!!!! The second book is slated for early next year! Definitely reccomend it. It's a great story, and had a surprisingly amount of whump (at least the 1st book did. Hope the rest of the series follows suit). Thanks for the ask!

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Bloodleaf is about a princess, Aurelia, who is forced to run away after an assassination attempt is made upon her life. Aurelia has magic and sees ghosts, which is forbidden in her kingdom, and makes her hated by her people. The story is a retelling of The Goose Girl.
I liked that despite how much Aurelia was hated for her magic, she still continued to practice and learn everything she could about it. I enjoyed how Aurelia would see ghosts who would give her insight on events or people around her.
The beginning of the book is a pretty heavy info-dump of world politics without much in way of character development.
I don’t like that this story is a trilogy. It felt satisfying enough as a stand-alone. Besides Aurelia, most of the characters, including the villain, are forgettable and poorly developed. I didn’t feel an emotional attachment to any of these characters.  Because of this, the ending wasn’t nearly as impactful for me as the author intended it to be.
Overall, this book was predictable and lacked the necessary character-building for a series that would make readers want to get comfortable for the journey ahead.

Tumblr media
King Of Scars (Leigh Bardugo) Všichni milovníci světa Griši se konečně dočkají nové série o mladém králi Nikolajovi, který stojí před spoustou důležitých rozhodnutí, aby udržel svou zemi Ravku pohromadě. Knížku si kromě autorčiných fanoušků ale můžete užít i vy, kdo jste od ní nic nečetli. A než dostanete do rukou tento příběh, nezapomeňte si ukrátit čas třeba duologií Šest vran nebo knihou povídek Trnitá řeč. Aspoň zjistíte, jak skvěle Leigh Bardugo píše a jak moc její postavy milujete! Vyjde ve Fragmentu.
Tumblr media
Nevernight (Jay Kristoff) Takhle originální příběh ještě dlouho nepotkáte! Hlavní hrdinka Mia se přihlásí do školy pro nájemné vrahy, aby mohla pomstít svého mrtvého otce. Mimochodem vidíte správně – tenhle autor tvoří polovinu spisovatelského dua, které má na svědomí sérii Akta Illuminae. Takže to prostě musí být naprosto dokonalé. Vyjde v CooBoo.
Tumblr media
Dance Of Thieves (Mary E. Pearson) Autorka série Kroniky pozůstalých konečně přichází s novou fantasy! Vyjde v CooBoo.
Tumblr media
Bloodleaf (Crystal Smith) Princeznu Aurelii na trůně nikdo nechce a navíc nesmí používat svou krvavou magii. Proto po neúspěšném útoku uprchne z vlastního království, ačkoli ji duchové stále pronásledují... Pokud máte rádi temné příběhy s osobitou hlavní hrdinkou a zajímavé fantasy světy s různými druhy magie, tuhle knihu si rozhodně nenechte ujít! Vyjde ve Fragmentu.
Tumblr media
Everless (Sara Holland) V tomhle světě se rčení „Čas jsou peníze“ naplnilo do puntíku. A společnosti to zrovna moc nepomáhá.
Vyjde v CooBoo.
Tumblr media
Sky in the Deep (Adrienne Young) Na severu vedle sebe žijí dva rivalské klany Vikingů.
Tumblr media
Vyjde v CooBoo.
Tumblr media
Three Dark Crowns (Kendare Blake) Královně se pokaždé narodí tři dcery. Jedna vládne zvířatům, druhá živlům a třetí jedům. Která se ale nakonec stane novou královnou? Tenhle strhující příběh vás chytne a nepustí.
Tumblr media
Prokletá krev (Ange) V tomhle příběhu se snoubí Selekce a upíři. Ano, čtete správně. Selekce a upíři.
No řekněte, který knihomol by odolal příběhu, z něhož přímo prýští láska k literatuře? My si ho tedy rozhodně ujít nenecháme.
