Personal thoughts and meditations upon the occasion of the Riverdale series finale.

Probably like four people are going to read this but I feel compelled to write it out anyway. This show has genuinely been a massive part of my life. I watched the first episode because some high school friends encouraged me to (IRONICALLY, BRO). I was in high school when I started this show. Those friends of course long ago fell away, unable to continue, unable to wacth anymore, but I have kept the faith. All seven seasons. Every. Single. Episode.

I’m not even entirely sure what captivated me so much about the show. I loved the atmosphere of season 1. I genuinely wanted to find out who killed Jason Blossom. Was genuinely fucked up by episode 1 x 12 and the first season finale.

I have such fond memories of watching the first season. I distinctly remember a road-trip I Tok with my friends the summer of 2017, and joking about maple syrup drug empires and the “weirdo” line back when that was the wildest scene on the show. Joking about how sick of the song ‘Believer’ by Imagine Dragons (2017) we were.

And then I decided to get involved in a fandom for the first time in a couple of years, and so I revived my old Tumblr, and I began Posting. And reading posts.

That was my last summer after high school and I was so nervous about college but this show and this fandom helped me get through it. My freshman year I lived in a dorm, and if you wanted to watch TV you had to go down to this common room, so every Thursday I would go down there like an hour ahead of time and occupy the place to make sure the remote was in my hands by 7 PM. A few times I failed, and I missed an episode because of it. But rarely!

I remember that slowly dawning feeling as season 2 progressed. Scrolling my Tumblr feed and slowly seeing people come to the realization: “wait…is it just me or does this show actually suck.” Was kind of frustrating at the time, realizing that the writers just like…were bad, but in retrospect? Beautiful. Incredible. Legendary.

And you could even say that’s where the fun really began. Yes, there’s plenty to hate, but also Riverdale is brilliant. The show of all time. For real. No other show has done it like Riverdale. They just haven't, and they never will. The age of the cable television teen drama is ending, and what a hell of a last hurrah Riverdale has been.

The Red Circle. Jingle Jangle. The Gargoyle King. Edgar Evernever and his fantastic rocket. Bret Weston Wallis and Donna Sweett (genuinely cannot say their names without giggling). Jughead getting hit in the head with a rock and faking his death for like…some reason? I genuinely can’t remember, something to do with the Hardy Brothers idk. Tabitha sprinkling the devil with the tears of the Virgin Mary. The normies can laugh all they want about “epic highs and lows” but do they remember the even funnier lines like “if there’s no wedding, that means the gargoyle king has won” or “word of my exploits serving Nick his comeuppance…” THEY NEVER WILL. ONLY THE TRUE FAITHFUL UNDERSTAND.

And is silly as it all was, I have genuine affection for these characters. Like Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Archie, Cheryl, Toni, actually mean a lot to me. YES they’re fake but I want the best for them (and for Beronica to be canon but you know we can’t win them all). I’m genuinely grateful that this show has existed and been a part of my life for the past six years.

Moreover, I credit this show for seriously getting into writing. I’ve actually written almost a million words of Riverdale fanfiction. Much of it will never see the light of day, but it exists. Maybe I even have one or two left in me, I don’t know. At the very least I’d like to finish a few uncompleted fics. But I’ve also branched out. Since I started seriously writing in 2017, I’ve also finished several original manuscripts, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll get one published. Stranger things have happened.

So, thanks Roberto.

And thanks to all of the very cool people I’ve run into in this fandom. I honestly wish I’d gotten to know most of you better, but them’s the breaks. Hopefully this isn’t weird but I’m going to tag a few people in particular.

@village-skeptic. I know you’re not in the fandom anymore (lucky you), but thank you for, once upon a time, reading every one of the 200,000+ words of a 17-year-old kid’s turgid, indulgent, Riverdale Spanish Civil War fan fiction. I never, ever would have finished that story without you, and I credit it with giving me the confidence to keep writing, and in fact to write everything I’ve written since then. You’re brilliant and awesome.

@satelliteinasupernova. Thank you for also reading Interbellum (are we noticing a pattern), and more importantly for all of your wonderful drawings. INCLUDING fanart of some of my fics. You have no idea how happy that Strange Death of Elizabeth Cooper piece made me. You rule.

@halcooper. Your devotion to the neglected parents of Riverdale is truly admirable. Every time I see Lochlyn Munro in some weird low budget horror movie I’ll think of you.

I hope I didn’t forget anyone who would be offended by my forgetting, but I doubt it.

All this to say this show has been a genuinely huge part of my life for six years. SIX YEARS. I graduated college, my God. I wish I could say I became a millionaire or a successful author in that time, but nah. Maybe one day, but for now I’m just kind of vibing. And unfortunately, I’ll have to vibe without Riverdale from now on.

But as I sit myself down to watch the very last episode of this show, I remind myself that we’ll always have the memories. And I’ll always be an unapologetic Riverdale enjoyer. As a great man once said, snakes don’t shed their skins so easily.

I'll answer these two together since they're related. All of my IRL friends and my lil bro are also writers in some capacity (we’re just a bunch of old queer creatives lmao), so ofc they know I write fanfic! We've written fanfic together for years! Me and @mermaidmojito always do NaNoWriMo (when I can commit), and on the rare occasion that our fandom interests align, we sort of beta each others fics by passing them back and forth, but it's mostly incoherent yollering and brainstorming ideas!

My brother isn't a big fanfic reader, but he sometimes combs over for type-os that I miss and he always has fun takes that I love to embellish! But by and large, I do my own beta-ing! I'm a one woman show lmao

My mom knows I write fanfic, but she's never read any of it bc she's also not a big reader if it's not Nora Roberts (valid). And if I'm asked what my hobbies are by coworkers or anyone else, I usually volunteer that I write "short fiction that i publish online under a pseudonym" because that's easier than explaining what fanfic is to most ppl. If i know they know what fanfic is, then I say I write fanfic, and when they ask "Why would you want to write for a tv show?" I usually say "Because it's fun!" Because it is! lmao

But if people ask where I post fics or what name i use online, that’s a hard Hell No Lmfao. I’ve never given out my username to anyone bc I like to draw a VERY defined line between my RL and online presence and I genuinly think every fucking body should do that, as well. Only my VERY close friends know me as bobtheacorn AND the name my momma gave me!

🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?

When I finish it! And I mean that from the bottom of my heart - it is a huge victory for me when I actually Finish A Thing. Being able to hold onto an idea long enough to see it through to fruition is Not something my ADHD riddled ass it usually capable of, hence my 200+ wips! Any kudos/feedback I get after posting it is just dessert, and I don’t want that to sound like I don’t love and appreciate getting attention for my fics! Because GOD I DO!! I love getting comments bc y’all are so fucking funny and sweet and it Always makes my day brighter and I know i’m bad abt replying because i’m nervous abt it for No Reason but I go back and reread them constantly for a lot of my fics!

But I’m not trying to be like the Top Kudos-ed fic on AO3 or anything. I don’t even really look at anything other than the comments except when I go through the bookmarks and see if anybody left and Secret Comments! lmao To anybody who measures their worth through Stats and not how much enjoyment they got out of the thing that they made, RIP but i’m different. 💜

What types of fanworks do you create? I write fanfics. Lots of fanfics, most of which don’t see the outside of my one drive ngl. I love fanfics because sometimes I can lose that bit of realism: in the marvel universe, basically anything goes, and in fanfiction, it’s even less limited than that. Basically anything goes, and I love that.

What are your favourite types of fanworks, when you’re not creating? Fics, for sure. I’ve read so many great ones, and there’s a fic for every vibe. And also incorrect quotes and Twitter feeds. They’re always brilliant

What do you like in particular about this fandom? Honestly, I’m just here for the double d content. With every fic I read, I’m always changing my mind abt the best ships and tropes, but ones I always love have gotta be the Frank/Matt ones. Wholesome af. Maybe add Elektra to spice it up… ;) And Matt and Jessica, saltmates or romantic jackasses, either works. I mean, they’re basically the same person with their tragic backstories Tm, their whiskey, brooding, and bullshit. There’s also that deaged trope which I gotta admit to liking, any chance for ppl to see an angsty child soldier Matt Murdock is a win, especially when they try to make him all happy too.

Do you like participating in fan events? Never done it before! I’d really like too, though. They always look great :D

What about your creating process? Lmao, “process”. I’d love to call it that. Usually there are just too many thoughts and head canons and my brain’s just a nonsensical place. So… chaotic fanfics! I’ve been trying to write longer fics for a while, but they always get interrupted with new ideas, so I write them instead! It’s always wild to see where they go

Do you interact a lot with other fans? Bro, it took ages to actually register an ao3 acc but I’ve been working on it. Becoming more interactive is definitely a thing that should happen

Do you have other fandoms you'd like to talk about? No, but yes. Important question!! Teenage mutant ninja turtles, right? Same chemicals as Daredevil. Edgy sewer lords. It’s a whole thing. Netflix MCU and main MCU are basically kinda the same universe, earth-19999 or whatever. So that’s fine. The turtles are also featured in the main marvel into thing. That’s 19999 enough. So when Peter Quill brings up the TMNT in guardians of the galaxy, is he referencing a fictional kids TV show, or does he have some inside knowledge on the super secret sewer ninjas?!?!?! I’m pretty sure they’re referenced in something else too. Can’t remember… anyways, but like are the turtles real or not in the MCU? What’s going on Kevin? Why are you like this :o ??? HeLp

Is there any particular piece you'd like to showcase for this post? Yes! The Yellow Car Initiative, featuring a version of Matt who is actually kinda happy in this series of attempted humour. so after one really big latte, a muffin, a run which resulted in a near accident with an oncoming car, and a shower in which i contemplated my own mortality, here’s my thoughts on the adorable me & au podcast, because babe wake up new hyperfixation dropped. very spoiler-y, i’m sorry in advance for how f*cking long this is, this might only have like two people reading this but i have many thoughts please listen to this podcast because it’s so cute and i listened to it all in about 2.5 hours?

- firstly: the main character is super relatable. like, scary relatable. meet kate “acunningplan” cunningham, a gal about to enter her senior year of college and just kinda,,,lost. she works as a barista and very confused, very...stuck gal by day, fic writer (and still very stuck gal) by.........not barista hours.

- honestly, i love kate. idk i’m about to enter my senior year of college, and bro i related so hard to her fears of “bro i can’t even think about next week without feeling overwhelmed”. she misses her best friend whitney a lot, who is currently on the other side of the country for an impressive internship. so that can be kinda lonely.

- but fear not, kate has an escape, like so many other fic writers/fandom people: fanfic. this whole story references tumblr without actually naming tumblr (let’s be real....it’s tumblr, from the “notes” to “this stupid app keeps crashing”), and kate follows this tv show about werewolves and supernatural creatures. very gay. only problem is that there’s not a whole ton of people active in the fandom, since this show is relatively new.

- however, in this small fandom, kate meets ella: otherwise known as “hella-enchanted”, who is another fic writer.

- kate is very obsessed with the idea of alternate universes, and for that alone, i love her.

- okay, so even if you’ve never fallen in love with a person online/in fandom circles, i just wanna say that ella and kate’s interactions are still so super relatable. the shooting messages, the starting random conversations and getting a little thrill when you see someone liking your personal post or whatever. it’s very wholesome.

- also, at the end of episode 1, kate goes on about how “yeah, fanfic is kinda odd, but it led me...to you” and it was so soft and gentle you just know your heart is gonna melt huh

- at one point, kate decides to be vulnerable via vent post about something that came up on the show (and oh god yeah i feel...things. kate relates very hard to one character in the tv show she’s following, and tbh,,,yeah. i can’t quite word it right now, but i think anyone who feels kinda.....stuck? would relate.)

- the “EXACTLY ONE PERSON ASKED FOR THIS ESSAY SO HERE IT IS” please

- also oh :’)))) kate talks about ella’s playlists and when i tell you i squeaked a little bit because oh hey--

- anyways lol yes can you relate to like,,,posting a vent post and forgetting to delete it and being mildly horrified (but also mildly touched) when someone actually responds?

- ella’s very sweet, just responds with “seems like one of my favorite fandom people needed a pick-me-up” and :’))) i would die for ella! (i mean, i would die for all the characters)

- okay yes also all the bits where ella and kate scream at each other about fic. very relatable, very real, you can tell that the writers of this podcast really knew this feeling, and i just :’)))

- THE TWO DEBATE OVER TITLES,,,,,kate keeps sending in crack-y titles and also song lyrics, and ella comments on “well,,,i just read this whole wikipedia page, so i think i’ve lost the high ground”, so if y’all KNOW i started laughing at that

- also LMAOOOO the moment when conversation diverts from fic and fandom to slightly more personal things! kate being like “oh,,,,,you have an actual job! like,,,you’re an actual adult and.....how’s that?” and then quickly rambling on via message “actually let me change the topic because that’s probably too personal”...

- okay so there’s this bit where ella drops the fact that she’s never read anne of green gables because “listen,,,,you have an ex-girlfriend who sang the anne of green gables musical all the time--” and kate’s “.......ex-girlfriend? you had an ex-girlfriend? girl--” (and BACKSPACING ALL OF THAT because “god i’m such a freak”)

- opportunity for kate and ella to meet irl comes up! at a fan convention! in toronto! (and kate lives in bc). kate’s best friend (remember, internship one?) invited kate over to toronto for this thing anyways, and then ella posts something about “heeeey i’m gonna be in the area so if anyone wants to meet up for the fan convention...”

- let me just say......kate chucking her phone across the room because she freaked out about that. again. very cool, very nicely done, very relatable, etc.

- ALSO,,,,i forget if this was one of kate or ella’s fics or if it was the actual tv show, but there’s this tidbit where the characters in the literal fandom has this conversation:

and the way that reflects kate’s feelings-but-she’s-not-trying-to-think-about-it for ella please let me just die here

- okay, so kate does decide to message ella about the meet-up, and let me just tell you, kate’s inner monologue about the worst possibilities for ella’s responses:

- kate.....describing herself as “irl fanfic disaster waiting to happen” and the whole “i didn’t know we were actually dating until she asked if she could kiss me” lmaoooooooooo (but okay yes this is also a mood? like,,,,,,idk something about heteronormative standards so like,,,,,it’s so stupidly hard to figure out if a girl is flirting with you or if they’re just being nice i am glad kate’s such a disaster)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Definitely “All Dead, All Dead” (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Super Smash Bros)--it’s about BOTW Link realizing that the events of World of Light in Smash Ultimate makes this the second time that he failed to prevent a disaster, that he’s lost more this time than last time during the Calamity, and is now carrying even more survivor’s guilt as a result. I normally don’t write such angsty fics with no resolution, but as this is World of Light, and everyone’s restoration is a foregone conclusion if you’ve played the game, I felt it was fine as is.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? Oh, yes! The craziest one I’ve written is probably a Man from U.N.C.L.E./Pokémon crossover, “The Three Spheres of Stonehenge Affair,” (Gen) which makes use of the fact that Galar in the Pokémon world is a parallel of the UK, and results in a cult using a portal device to bring Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres over to England for Napoleon, Illya, Waverly, and Marton to deal with. Another one you wouldn’t expect to work was a rather angsty crossover between 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, “What’s Past is Prologue” (Gen), where Calamity Ganon strands the Scooby gang in the Hyrule Ridgelands about 5 years after the Champions are killed and Link has been sealed in the Shrine of Resurrection. The fam have to contend with Yiga, Guardians, the Blood Moon, and Ganon’s vengeance (because Vincent defeated Ganondorf in a duel ages ago, which he never forgave) to make it back to their world before it’s too late.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Surprisingly, no; I was, admittedly, bracing myself for it when I started writing my 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo fics, as I feature the entire fam, including Scrappy and Flim-Flam, who are, shall we say... not exactly endeared to the fandom? (I never had a problem with either of them, honestly--if anything, I appreciated Flim-Flam for being the first South Asian rep in the Scoobyverse) The closest thing I ever received to hate was someone who read a middle chapter of one of my multichapter Hogan’s Heroes fics, ADMITTED IN THE REVIEW they hadn’t read anything other than that one middle chapter, and then complained that it made no sense. ...Congratulations, you just played yourself.

Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but I have had one transcribed as a Podfic by someone else--“You Can’t Judge a Book” (Hogan’s Heroes, Gen).

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? All of them Most of all, the Monkeesfic I left hanging, because it was the literal final installment of the arc I was writing.

What are your writing strengths? Characterizations, or so I’ve been told--I can jump from fandom to fandom, and have everyone remain perfectly in-character. Also, dialogues. My writing has always been dialogue-driven.

What are your writing weaknesses? Descriptions. As improved as I am when compared to 2008 when I started posting stories online, I yearn for the ability to pull off the whole “Show, don’t Tell” as good as certain people I could mention.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? It can be tricky depending on the language, but rewarding if it all works out. In Hogan’s Heroes, LeBeau switching between French and English happens nearly once per episode, so I endeavor to do that (with plenty of help from Bel, I will admit). For Illya speaking Russian or Ukrainian in MFU, I throw it into Google Translate and pray it comes out coherent. His dialogues are the most challenging by far since I’m on my own. For Flim-Flam speaking Nepali in 13 Ghosts, I have a much easier time since Nepali is similar enough to Hindi (which I am decently fluent in).

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Pokémon, way back in 1999 (though those fics will never see the light of the internet, ever).

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? Ooh, I have to do this for my main three fandoms--

Man from U.N.C.L.E.-- “The Jack o’ the Lantern Affair” (Gen version on FFN, slash version on AO3). The spirit of a legendary trickster is running amok in New York City, and Napoleon and Illya have to contend with an otherworldly threat that they are not prepared to handle.

13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo-- “The Pleasant Valley Poltergeist” (Gen). Vincent and the fam are undercover in a no-nonsense gated community near Tuscon, trying to attempt a ghostbreaking--only things are complicated by an unexpected additional mystery, plus interference from the Homeowner’s Association.

Back to the Future-- “‘Cause I Might Not Make It Back” (Gen). Marty is pursued by a renegade scientist to be used as leverage against Doc, resulting in him getting stranded in 1932, stricken with amnesia. As 1986 Doc searches for Marty, the ripple effect fails to kick in as his 1932 counterpart finds him, and is tasked with trying to figure out how to get Marty’s memory back, as well as keep him out of the clutches of his renegade pursuer.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

Star Trek: Voyager, I suppose at least for reading. Started writing with Stargate SG-1.

2. What is your latest fandom?

I dip in and out of lots of fandoms on and off, the most recent ‘pick up’ is Ballam from Eastenders, I don’t watch soaps, but Robron and Ballam both appear a good bit on my tumblr, so I eventually gave in to checking them out via fic and youtube – thank god for youtube, lol! I still don’t watch soaps, but I watch those storylines!

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

Gosh, that’s... actually no that’s really easy. Primeval. For anyone not familiar, it’s a ‘silly little dinosaur show’ produced in the UK. It had 4 short seasons, with a somewhat revolving main cast – although they managed to keep 3 of them through all 4 seasons – but the fandom was/is amazing. I made life long friends through the fandom and even though I don’t write much any more I still read some and still talk with those people.

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?

I would say no. I can’t say every fandom has always been amazing – ship wars anyone! – but mostly fandom has been a very positive experience in my life.

Stargate SG-1: Jack/Sam, I just... no. I’ve read a few where it’s a background or secondary pairing, but it always makes me wince a bit. I’ve read a few with Sam/Daniel as a secondary pairing that didn’t make me react that way and I’ve read Sam with other characters, but Jack/Sam just is a nope for me.

Stargate Atlantis: McKay/Keller – no, just no. that was horrible. She treated him like... awfully, trying to change him to suit her, just... no.

Marvel: Contentious, but Tony/Pepper, also Peter Parker/Tony Stark. Maybe because I saw the movies before I ever looked at the comics, but meh.

Due South: Benton Fraser/Ray V – again, contentious, but honestly I think Ray V was kind of a shit friend to Fraser.

Firefly: Anything with Jayne. No really, I just can not stand the character. I spent most of the series wanting to punch him in the face and sometimes you get characters you love to hate, but I just hated him.

Buffy/Angel Verse: Buffy/Spike, Willow/Kennedy

Harry Potter: Ron/Hermione, Ron/Harry, Harry/Ginny... basically, Ron and Ginny should just be loveless hermits who live by themselves. Ok, no, that isn’t fair... but as much as Ron was Harry’s first friend, he was selfish and bitter and Ginny/Harry just... never sat right with me. Ron literally says she spent ‘all summer talking about’ Harry, when she’d met him for all of three seconds. She didn’t know him. It always felt like she fell more in love with the *idea* of Harry Potter, than Harry Potter himself.

Sherlock: Sherlock/Molly, he’d eat her for breakfast. Serious, she’d never survive him.

Primeval: Oliver Leek and anyway. Arg. Creepy little dude is creepy and evil.

NCIS: Ziva/DiNozzo – ugh, just no.

8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

Tumblr, god damned bitches posting gifs of pretty boys falling in love, roped me in!

9. What are the best things about your current fandom?

I dabble in several fandoms at once... but if we go by ‘most recently picked up’ as ‘current’ we’re talking Ballum, which hey, it’s always fun to have an actual canon pairing be my OTP, that’s rare for me, lol.

10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Well (so far) I haven’t written any Ballum. (I say so far, because I’m a realist, lol). I rarely read in fandoms and not end up writing in them at some point. Although I have probably dabbled in a few I’ve not written for, but if I read it with any sort of consistency, I mostly end up writing it. I am weak!

Okay, so that list above, just basically go with that. While I do drop in and hour of fandoms and some I certainly read in more than others, I do tend to go back to fandoms... If we were talking about what I’m mostly focused on writing atm... Steve/Tony, Mycroft/Lestrade, Harry/Draco and Robron are ones I’m currently working on most.

12. Who is your current OT3?

I’m not currently writing anything that’s OT3 with any real focus. I have a couple of Neal/Peter/Elizabeth WiPs that I will at some point finish, but they aren’t a big focus just now. I did recently read a fabulous Neal/Peter/Elizabeth fic that’s been on my tbr list for ages.

13. Any NoTPs?

Just... see above, lol!

14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?

Harry Hart/Merlin, those two are Bro’s until the end and I will fight you on this. Also, Eggsy/Roxy! OMG they are such a BroTP! And Tony/Pepper/Rhodey – I may no like Tony/Pepper as a pairing, but I love them as best friends and of course, our Rhodes, because again, I will fight you on this, they are awesome and Tony needs his best friends!

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

I’m not sure there is. I suppose I’ve read a few fics for some random pairings over the years, but nothing that’s made me really ship-ship them. I like Clint Barton/Bucky Barnes, after seeing it as a secondary pairing in a Steve/Tony fic, but I’ve seen that pop up a few times since, so maybe it won’t stay obscure for long!

16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?

Jack/Sam, Tony/Pepper, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Buffy/Spike – they all seem to be het pairings, oops. But I am mostly a slash fic reader/writer, so I suppose that’s not too surprising.

17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?

Jack/Daniel from Stargate SG-1. I still love them. I still read them, although it has been a while since I’ve written them on their own (I have got some SG-1/SGA x-overs where they feature)

18. What ship have you written the most about?

I’m genuinely not sure... without going and counting (and I’m not going any counting!) I’d guess Jack/Daniel, McKay/Sheppard, Jack/Ianto and Steve/Danno.

19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?

No, not that I can think off. I either like it or not. I do occasionally feel bad for not reading a fic if it’s an author I really like, but I don’t read that fandom or pairing, but nothing specific.

Robron and Ballum, lol. I do not do soaps!

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

Stargate SG-1, Jack/Daniel, a story called The Dare, The Disaster, The Almost Happy Ending, And The Very Happy Ending – it was awful. Don’t go looking, lol!

22. Is there anything you regret writing?

Don’t we all? No, I wouldn’t specifically say so. There are certainly fics, especially older ones, I wish I could have written better, but nothing I’d go, ugh I should never have done that.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Uh... honestly that’s really hard. I... um... yeah, I don’t know, really. I wrote a nice little flower one in POI that I felt worked rather beautifully. The Language of Flowers. An I wrote an SGA fic for NaNo a few years ago, called A Different Life, but it’s not online, because I didn’t finish it yet and I knew I wasn’t going to finish it any time soon, so I didn’t feel it was fair to leave it up unfinished (there is a reason I don’t read WiP fics and I don’t post them either, because I know how much I hate unfinished WiPs) Edit: After writing this I reminded myself of a POI fic I wrote called Hours of Separation – It’s a Harold/John break up story that I always intended to write a sequel too where I ‘fixed’ them, but I just couldn’t do it. I broke them a little too well. But I really love it actually.

24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?

The afore mentioned A Different Life needs to be edited and finished, lol! Also a Primeval fic with the working title Crypt Keeper (don’t ask) that I worked myself into a bit of a corner on and I figure out how to fix it, but I haven’t done it yet, so it’s still needs fixing and finishing, lol!

25. What’s your most popular fanfic?

I haven’t the foggiest.

26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?

Sometimes, really easily, a quote, a line from the fic, a song title... other times it’s like pulling teeth, hence working titles on things like ‘crypt keeper’ which is a reference to one scene near the very start and has no actual hint of the plot, lol!

27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?

Oh the titles. Summaries you can just copy a few lines from the fic if you are desperate, if you had to post ‘untitled mcshep fic #67’ people would get cranky, lol, hell I’d get cranky!

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

Oh... I... huh. I mean who wouldn’t love fanart for their stories? Any of them honestly! But if I had to choose just one... I guess something in my Animal Instinct verse, which is Primeval (although I always intended to write other fandoms in the verse) where some people transform into animals, based on their ‘spirit animal’ and some art of the characters with their spirit animal form would be awesome.

29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?

Sometimes, look if you’ve read this far, you know I write in a lot of fandoms, lol. In some fandoms it’s easier than others to find beta readers. Also, sometimes if it’s just something short, I won’t bother. But I do try for my longer fics.

30. What inspires you to write?

That old adage, if you want to read it, sometimes you just have to write it? Spite? Boredom? Honestly sometimes I just have ideas I have to get out of my brain and it’s write or go mad(der)

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

That it inspired them to write something.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

Sometimes, sometimes I find it distracting when writing because I end up singing along and forgetting what I’m writing, lol! I do sometimes get inspiration from songs, I guess mostly from the lyrics, but no particular band or genre – although I listen to a lot of country music!

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?

34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?

Around 60k, I think.

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

I have. Primeval had/has a week drabble challenge, mostly when I’ve written drabbles it’s been for a challenge, with a specific prompt.

Uh... I mean, my fandoms really span the genres, but I guess sci-fi or crime are probably my favourites.

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?

Third mostly, I have occasionally written in first person, if it felt like the fic needed it.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?

Little from column a, little from column b... it depends on the fandom and the story. Sometimes you just need more characters, mostly they are minor roles, I don’t tend to write much established character/oc fic

39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Ability to convince myself people will want to read it, lol! No actually to be honest, I love to know people read and like my stuff, but I gave up a long time ago on trying to ‘please’ people with what I write. I write what I want to read.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Focus. The problem with 21 years of fandom history, is well... 21 years of fandom history. A lot of fandoms, a lot of pairings and as I say, I never really ‘leave’ a fandom, I just drop in and out and sometimes that means I’ll write on something consistently for weeks or months and then end up getting distracted by another fandom again and not touch it for weeks or months again. Hence, I don’t post WiP fics, because I know I’m easily distracted and don’t want anyone to suffer my lack of focus but me.

Everyone. The thing is, fandom at it’s best is like crack, the more you get, the more you want. The writing, the gifs, the art... it feeds you and makes you want to make more of it, because more of it needs to exist and if that means you need to do it yourself, so be it!

Oh hell no, not even, I can not. It took me an hour to narrow down 5 authors, I can not narrow down one fanfic!

I mean, it depends on what they like... probably the Hour of Separation I mentioned above, if they like the fandom/pairing, or my Animal Instinct stuff.

47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?

Archive of our Own. I haven’t touched ff.net in *years* since they started getting super restrictive about what you could post. I do occasionally post stuff to tumblr, but mostly I now post to AO3. I did have my own site and I’ve yet to upload a lot of stuff to AO3 – one of these... months... that will be a project – but it’s amazing. Seriously, having been in fandom 20+ years, going from having to search all over a million different places and now it’s all in one place, where we’re honestly, spoiled and protected. The kids now have no idea how crazy impossible that once seemed.

48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?

Yes, but not as often as I should. I love AO3s kudos button, so I can sort of say ‘hey I enjoyed this’ without having to comment, because I sort of hate leaving comments just going ‘hey I enjoyed this’ because I always feel like I should say more, like, oh I enjoyed this specific thing, which yes is an unnecessary hang-up, but there ya go.

49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?

Of course it’s nice to get comments, kudos, reblogs etc. I’m not as attached to them now as I was when I was younger, because I learned along the way that it was more important that I like what I’m writing than that other people do, but it’s still nice to know that something I’ve created is enjoyed.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

I went looking for Star Trek Voyager stuff online, pics etc, waaaaaaay back when! And I came across fanfiction entirely by accident... and I read some – het stuff mostly, then I started watching Stargate SG-1, went looking for fanfiction for that, but was not on board with Jack/Sam, found Jack/Daniel went ‘huh really? That’s weird’ read it... and yeah... 21 years later... lol!

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Ship Wars. No seriously, just don’t. Like, who the actual fuck cares. I like my ship, you like your ship. I don’t care if it’s canon or not. I don’t care if it’s popular or not. I don’t read my NoTPs, but I’d never dream of telling someone else not too. Yes I think they are terrible, bad, no good pairings, but that’s *my* opinion. Don’t try to change my mind and I won’t try to change yours. I avoid them like the actual plague. If someone starts that shit around me, I will shut it right down. You are a dick. Go to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200.

You’ve probably heard of that film version of The Magnificent Seven from a couple of years ago. Maybe you know it’s based on a film from 1960, which is itself a remake of Seven Samurai.

But if you’re like 99% of fandom or even that guy I know who worked on the 2016 version, you probably don’t know that there was also a TV series starring, among other people, Ron Perlman.

(This came up because said dude and I were working on another Western starring Ron Perlman. A sucky one though. Alas, I cannot pimp it.)

Mag7, as it is usually called in fandom, was quite the little slash fandom in its day, yet it is nearly forgotten by newer fans. The show aired for two seasons from 1998-2000.

It’s one of those shows I bought, sight unseen, so I could catch up on older fandoms. I ended up liking it more or less, but I don’t think canon has aged well. It’s too bloodless for the era it came out in while making a pretense at covering serious, dark shit. It has neither the standing sets of old Western TV nor the big budgets of the 2010s Western revival. It’s too white. The one black lead gets relegated to token status along with all Native characters. The treatment of women is laughable, from the Happy Hooker stuff (gah!) to the time they try to teach the tomboy to be more girly so she can get the young dude in the cast (ragescream!). It feels more in line with what I’d expect a Western to look like in 1988 than 1998, especially on the heels of the far more inventive The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. in 1993.

Fanlore says that Mag7 suffers because current fandom is not into Westerns, but my problem is that I am far too into Westerns, and this show is not a good one.

OTOH, there is a lot of material here to work with, and work with it fans did!

It’s a super interesting fandom for a fandom historian because of how intensely AU-infested it is. Maybe you’ve heard something about “ATF-verse”? That’s a Mag7 thing. It’s not just regular AUs: The fandom is full of these shared universes with established rules for writers who want to play in them.

The “Seven” are:

Chris Larabee: The black-clad, taciturn loner with... wait for it... a dead wife and child.

Vin Tanner: The soft-spoken woobie, sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, who has spent time amongst the Indian tribes. (It is every bit as cringey as you think.) Fandom’s #1 fave, natch.

J.D. Dunne: Horrid little twerp with a terrible hat. I wanted to stab him every time he was on screen. x100 whenever he was interacting with a woman.

Buck Wilmington: Played by Dale Midkiff of Time Trax fame! (What? Everyone important, by which I mean me, loved Time Trax!) He is Chris’s old friend and polar opposite, a jolly, good-humored man raised by a prostitute mother. Ladies, including the working girls, love him. Also he gets fake dead more than once, so he’s clearly the BEST character, and fandom ought to have loved him the best too! >:(

Josiah Sanchez: Ron Perlman plays a wacky preacher and ex-gunfighter. Is he haunted by his past? Does he make woo-woo philosophical proclamations about this? Does this show love its ubiquitous Western cliches? (Don’t answer that.)

Ezra Standish: If Vin is the quiet, soft-spoken woobie, Ezra is the woobie who hides his Tragic Pain under a mask of charm and cheer. He’s the one with the rapidfire con artist patter, the fancy suits, and the Southern accent. He has a complicated relationship with his con artist mother. His wardrobe is a thousand times prettier than anyone else’s, and he crossdresses at some point. Naturally, he is fandom’s other darling after Vin. Possibly the #1 darling in ATF-verse.

Nathan Jackson: Nathan is a former slave and a doctor. He has a girlfriend in the local Seminole village and not enough to do on the show.

Other characters include a sad widow for Chris to have sad dead partner angst at, the judge who sends them on missions, and, in the pilot, that guy who played Harper in Sharpe. The judge is played by Robert Vaughn, which I 100% did not realize until I was looking at wikipedia just now!

Anyway, standard Western hijinks happen. The mystery of Chris’s wife’s death is eventually solved as angstily as possible. Chris pretends to kill Buck as part of a ruse at one point, making them my ship of choice. (What?) J.D. and the local tomboy get set up by all the other characters, causing me to want to stab not only them but also myself in the eye.

Oops. I’m supposed to be promoting Escapade, not starting fights about old tv shows. Anyway, I think the canon has some issues, but the fic... let me tell you, there are no words more likely to attract me to a fandom than “presumed dead”, and Mag7 fandom delivered, not only in the slash but in the gen. I have no idea, years later, where to find any of those fics or even which ones I read, but I remember there was self-indulgent melodrama and it was GREAT.

Actually, that’s a total lie. I have gone looking for Mag7 vids repeatedly for the Escapade dance party. Excavating my old spreadsheets, I see a bunch of interesting ones, like this slash vid of Nathan/Ezra. The Southern gentleman and the black guy are an obvious cliche teamup for Westerns, but the fandom rarely went there. This vid is great though! The only reason I’ve never played it is that no one at the con ships this.

1. At what age did you start writing fanfiction?

Hmm. Probably around 12-13? I think the original one I posted online was a very short one shot in the Magnificent 7 fandom (TV show from the 90′s) in response to a challenge prompt. That’s at least what I think was the first one I wrote.

2. Who is your favorite author?

Ohhh....this is entirely fandom related.

Endeavour: @hekate1308 and athena_crikey MCU: @rohanrider3 - Sound of Silence and Peter and the No Good, Horrible, Very Bad Day for the win! MacGyver: @amandagaelic (conveniently, also my favorite author in Timeless fandom, too) Iron Fist: @sholiofic (Ward and Danny bro fic for the win!) Daredevil: @beguilewritesstuff Voltron: @bosstoaster (even if I never actually finished the series because it started going a way I wasn’t thrilled with, her stories of Shiro are better than anything canon anyway).

3. Favorite type of scene to write?

The “all for naught” escape scenes. Like, it really looks like the good guy is gonna escape, they’re sooo close and then nope. Nice try! I also like the feisty ones - I really don’t actually like the begging whump trope, or the ‘take me instead’ where they just sort of submit, because that’s just not a thing I understand - like, at all. My mind always goes with ‘you’re gonna kill me anyway, so you’re coming with me and we’ll see who gets to Hell first’. So like in Lucifer fic, my favorite scene that I wrote was when I got to play with Lucifer’s bad side with him as Samael, even though Lucifer is generally a super nerd who (depending one which season it is) would rather make friends than fight.

4. What is your favorite fanfic?

To read? Oh boy. Found Family. Don’t care which fandom it is, so it’s more of a genre than a specific one.

5. What tags do you avoid like the plague?

Non-con, non-canon romantic relationships, smut, PWP, underage, dub-con, all things related to those categories.

6. What AU do you wish to write but feel like you won’t manage?

A crossover between Republic of Doyle and Magnum, PI. OH - or one I discussed many a moon ago with @buckky for a now dead fandom for a show called Deception. In the AU, magic was real instead of all stage production and the twins that were the main characters were from a long line of magic users. It got way more complicated and in depth, but I haven’t seen the show since it got cancelled, which makes it really hard to come up with motivation to write in it.

7. Do you outline, or write as you go?

Outline - HA! As Jim Hawkins and Gonzo said in Muppets’ Treasure Island “Wherever the wind may take us!”

8. What has been your favorite story to write so far? Why?

Either Running Up that Hill (before I got too pissed off at Agents of SHIELD to avoid the fandom altogether) or Damnatio Memoriae (which I love enough I am having trouble finishing the final chapter because then it will be over) and Wrong Side of Heaven for Magnum. For all three, the reasons are the same: I get to play with a character’s background that hints at being much more than anything they show on screen, and fix what I didn’t like in the canon version.

9. Do you prefer to write one-shots or multi-chapters? Why?

To write? I’ve started getting back into one shots with Magnum, but I like the longer novel-length ones a smidgen-y bit more, because I like the detail I can get into.

10. What is your favorite kind of comment?

Any of them? :-) Actually, I like the ones that are mostly sound effects and people telling me they gave up sleep to finish the long stories, or tell me that I nailed the characters voices so well that the stories read like actual episodes.

11. Why did you start writing fanfiction? Why are you still writing?

Started because the shows I watched didn’t have the story lines I wanted - which were typically Found Family, longer story arcs, and because I felt compelled to write but was too young to effectively write my own stuff. Still writing for much the same reasons - I like telling stories that others don’t. So like one that I’m working on for original is (I guess) a space opera/pirate story where the two main characters are a guy and a girl who have been best friends since they were children and that’s literally all they are to one another. No romantic subplot, just platonic love (if you must label, they’re in the ace/aro area) and is almost entirely based around Found Family and “Unless I need a kidney, I don’t need my bio family” story arcs.

Character Meme: Ray Palmer

Ah, Raymond.

- How I feel about this character I wasn't lonely. I was just choosing to focus on my studies. - Ray, LoT 3x04 ‘Phone Home’

Ray’s mother: He's always sneaking off into the woods and bringing back strays... I just wish Ray would make normal friends, you know? I mean, he'd rather spend his time with his animals and movies or his weird inventions. Sometimes I worry that he just gets lost in his own head. Ray: She always said she liked my inventions. - LoT 3x04 ‘Phone Home’

So autistic!Ray is very important to me. There’s an argument to be made that a few of the Arrowverse characters are autistic-coded - but not in the same way that Ray is. It’s practically canon (see 3x4 Phone Home), and yet they’ve never said it. This is an eternal problem for autistic people. Sometimes we identify autistic/ND people on our shows/in our fiction. And then neurotypical people tell us we see autism everywhere. Well, if you never saw people like you on screen you’d be looking for them too... Autistic people seriously lack canon representation - rarely will a character be overtly identified as autistic even if they’re coded/can be read that way (e.g. Sylvia Tilly from Star Trek: Discovery - the actor broke my heart when she tweeted that she didn’t intend for Tilly to be read as autistic. Gee, thanks for killing my headcanon…)

So, yeah. I identify Ray as autistic - bite me. Episode 3 of this season kind of broke my heart while also making me happy. The way Ray’s mother talks about him is the way that my parents often talked about me. @jewishlorca has this fic with Ray getting lost in cartoons, in a way that is exactly how I watch TV... It’s really rare that a more sensitive autistic person is represented, and that’s what I see going on with Ray. I don’t think he’s always oblivious (unlike when he was a child). I think he knows he can be different, that he’s not socially great, that he annoys people with his enthusiasm. I think that’s part of why he’s not had very successful relationships, too. He clearly overwhelmed Felicity with attention, and loved Kendra more than she loved him. He goes all in on things and people he loves. It tends to make NT people uncomfortable when an autistic/neurodivergent person is deeply devoted to a thing (a person, a book, a movie, a TV show, a food, I could go on…) That level of loving things, that ability to hyperfocus on them to the exclusion of everything else, is not socially acceptable. I think Ray knows that and does those things anyway, because that’s who he is. He’s the person who loves from the depths of his soul, who’s devoted to his work, who’d do anything for his teammates. The team gets a bit confused by this (even though they love him really). But I like that he doesn’t back down. He just keeps doing his thing - developing the Atom suit, falling hard for someone, or organising team bonding exercises with trust falls. And I love him for it.

To put headcanons aside for a bit: there’s just so much I like about Ray. My heart breaks for his lack of self esteem which is clearly there but which he’s so sunny about on the surface (there was a line last week about not getting the girl but getting a life of adventure and it betrayed an underlying loneliness and argh someone give him a hug). His enthusiasm is lovely. He cares about people. He never backs down from a challenge (even if he sometimes has a little wobble about it). He took time to grow on me, and he’s easier to relate to in Legends than in Arrow - but he’s just generally wonderful.

- All the people I ship romantically with this character

OK, I’m just going to whisper this. I don’t ‘get’ shipping like some people get shipping. It’s cute to see Ray paired with almost everyone, but he’s also worth seeing in a story that’s all his own. The coldatomies have brought me round to their way of thinking, simply because their writing is so much fun. I also like atomwave because I can see how it could work, and because Ray’s personality clashes with Mick in fics are hilarious. (Mick’s never going to understand Ray’s overly enthusiastic approach to anything, but I can totally see him getting used to it, and eventually, secretly liking it.) I’ve also read some lovely Ray/Anna fics (either of their life before her death, or him reflecting on her after) that are sad but so sweet. But mostly I just want to watch (or at least read) The Time Travelling Adventures of Ray Palmer Whose Friends Love Him and Make Him Feel Better About Being Him. This is basically going to be my response for all characters on the shipping thing OK :P

- My unpopular opinion about this character

Well, the stuff above about him being autistic has made some people annoyed with me. Don’t care, still see it. Shipping him with guys is sometimes unpopular, and he isn’t overtly written as bi, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be. (Straight does not have to be the default. Not even for a bit of a bro like Ray.)

- One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Could they just address the guy’s self-esteem issues as a problem once, rather than just using them as a source of comic lines? That’s Legends for you, always going for the laugh. They did show him feeling useless after he lost the Atom suit, but there’s much more to explore there. I’d like him to be taken a bit more seriously occasionally. Also I’d like the guy to be happy sometimes please (not just cheery, but happy). I’m not saying that has to be through a relationship - but give him something. A bit less of the ‘bros’ thing with Nate maybe - but that’s because I’m not keen on Nate rn - maybe explore some other friendships with team members. Of course I’d also like them to say ‘autistic’ in words, but I somehow doubt they’re going to. Oh and finally could the team please take his gluten/wheat allergy more seriously, because a) mocking an allergy is ableist, b) assuming allergic people are fakers is ableist and deeply unhelpful for allergy stigma, and c) Ray is not just your comic relief and deserves better. But hey, it’s Legends, he won’t get any of that sigh.

[Just popping back in with an edit: for more autistic!Ray you should read the people who helped me develop my headcanon of him - @dubiousculturalartifact and @jewishlorca . There are others but my brain is not where it should be, but start with them! I recommend Dubious’s dying is easy (living is harder) and areyouarealmonster’s Name-Calling. If I remember the other writers in this category I’ll add them.]

A: Your current OTP. Jace/Alec from Shadowhunters. Apparently this makes me problematic but I don't care

B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind. This is hard because if I started watching a show because of someone they typically told me their ship ahead of time and then I was looking for it. So I guess the closest I can come up with is that I lowkey ship Sephiroth/Genesis from Final Fantasy because of @nyx4 but I've never played the game

C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't. Arthur/Merlin from Merlin. Everyone always went so over the top with Merthur, and I shipped it for a few seconds but I never really liked Arthur so it was hard to care.

D: What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom? An X-Files fanfic uploaded to Gossamer titled, embarrassingly enough, "My Immortal" to which I attached my real name. I was 14 or 15 and therefore very stupid. (I have since had this and another removed from the site, thankfully). I also handed this fic into my English teacher to read. Even more embarrassing. The plot? Mulder loved Scully but he wanted to make sure that she loved him so he tried to make her jealous and when she did act jealous he was like "lol jk" and then I went into a lot of detail on a kiss they shared (THAT MY ENGLISH TEACHER READ) and then they got engaged and then they both got shot outside of Mulder's apartment for WHATEVER REASON and died. Hence "My Immortal", because they'll be together in death.

E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what? Yes, and I shall find the post I made on Livejournal so I can bring you direct to the source. It was for Legend of the Seeker, and I got the idea to Photoshop a fake Facebook post based on an episode (I forgot where I got the idea, if I saw it in another fandom or what). Anyway the result was this:

F: What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? The X-Files. I got into it when I was around 11 or 12 and was a pretty active member until I was 17 or 18. Which doesn't seem very long, but to be heavily into it, I feel it was. And then I came back around to it when the revival was announced, so it's been an on and off relationship.

G: What was your first fandom? The X-Files, probably, in terms of content-creating. Maybe if I'm counting things like "I pretended I was Xena a lot and I would call my friend on the phone and we’d talk about Xena" then maybe Xena: Warrior Princess

H: Do you prefer real-life TV shows or animated TV shows? Real-life, hands down. I hate animation.

I: Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? Lol what -hasn't- Tumblr caused me to hate? Tho...you know what...I've never said it on this hellsite for fear of reprisal, but I'm going to do it. Tumblr turned me off Sansa Stark back in season 2 or so. There was so many posts where people were so aggressive about unfollowing and hating people who didn't like Sansa and it got so irritating I started to dislike Sansa by association. So congrats, Tumblr, you played yourself. Also, this site turned me off The Musketeers around season 3. So much Aramis hate, kind of soured me since I watched the show for Santiago Cabrera. And then that association soured me on Santiago, so. Thanks.

J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr. I'm going to say Teen Wolf. It was all over the place when it was first airing and people either loved it or thought it was ridiculous so I started watching it finally and it was ridiculously great. But then they killed off Allison and ruined my life :)))))

K: How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom(s). I don't really know what my current fandoms are - I'm kind of really into Shadowhuters rn but not in a "making things" sort of way. Anyway, I have heard some very terrible things about this fandom so I am wary.

L: Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for? I don't read fanfic and I'm not into fanart so.

1. What’s your favorite color (I know that’s really basic but I think someone’s favorite color says a lot about a person) and why?

I used to say blue is my favorite color but maybe I prefer green? When I was a little human my bedroom was paint in green and now I just feel good in green room/place so- probably green!

2. Do you like rain? And if so, what’s your favorite thing to do in the rain/when it’s raining?

YES! I really like when I come back home, walking in the rain and listening to my music! Sometimes I even dance in the rain (because who don’t love to pretend to be in a musical?)

3. How do you feel about sunglasses?

I think they could be cool with a pretty outfit but I don’t like to wear them because I just feel like I’m not seeing the real colours? (okay, maybe I’m kinda weird)

It’s cool. I wear it very often. Only that I don’t like pastel colors. Only dark ones

Several. If you mean cosmetics yeah. Only that not that often. Depends on the day and what I’m doing. If it it’s for college, I won’t wore any make up, but I wear tons of hair product to keep in line my curly hair lol

Scientific? As I know very little of that matter, I’ll go with “The Lion King” this movie taught me when I was young: It’s all of the people important in our lives that are gone and they’re watching over us. I know it’s not like that, but I’ve lost so many people in my life that it gives me comfort thinking that they’re watching over me :)

13. Is there a thought you have that no one else has related to?

A few. Actually that’s kinda part of my job. We know since the first semester that people might think alike, but not the same. interpretations are tricky. And that means in everything not just books or movies/tv shows.

14. How do you deal with bad days?

What is your favorite part of the day? (This can be a time, like the morning, or an action, like seeing your pet)

That moment when I’m about to fall asleep, and I’m just lying in bed with absolutely no thoughts.

What is something you’ve always wanted someone to do for you, but never told them?

I don’t know ?? I like when people create, but I don’t necessarily want them to create for me, you know?

If you could do something for the rest of your life without fear of going broke/getting hurt, what would it be?

I was about to say “swim with the manatees”, but then I noticed it said “for the rest of your life” not just “something you want to do”. Maybe just… explore.

Can you describe the color blue without using the word? (I’m so ready to hear these responses aye)

(Imagine for a second that you’re not afraid of a fish trying to eat your foot, and step deeper into the water. At first, it’s murky, and all you can see is the mud you’ve brought up by dragging your feet along the rocky bottom. Careful! The rocks are sharp, and you need to know better, you need to make sure that your feet don’t start to bleed, so you don’t bring out the sharks. Go further, and start to pretend like you can float. Watch the water in front of you, take in a deep breath, and go under. Hold your breath until –

Now keep going, letting the scales wrap around your legs and letting yourself go deeper and deeper. Explore, see the fish, the coral, but then come up. I’m gonna go with when @thebookofsands drew me as a manatee mermaid. Like I don’t know if that’s necessarily a compliment in the strictest sense, but I still smile when I see it.

What is your favorite au trope?

Mistaken identity/wrong number aus. I love them.

What is your favorite memory?

One of them is my last time in orchestra for a musical in high school, we had professionals play with us every year because enough people never signed up. And one of the professionals, who played saxophone, and so sat next to me every year, told me that he’d really appreciated that I did orchestra and that he’d miss me next year and I was just… very thankful, because orchestra was a struggle sometimes since I was often alone and forgotten.

What is something you’ve always secretly wanted people to compliment you on?

I’d usually say my writing, but people do compliment that a lot. I feel like… people genuinely compliment me a lot, and that’s not even me bragging, I’m just ?? people are very sweet to me, and I appreciate it so much.

What super power would you most like to have and why?

Telepathy. It’s a risk, because there are good thoughts and there are bad thoughts that you’d pick up on, but it’d be very interesting to be able to pick up on what people are actually thinking. How often have you been in a situation where you just wanted to know, for better or for worse. Plus, I mean, I’ve already got the wheelchair. What else do I need to become Charles Xavier?

I See Stars in Your Eyes (Must be Painful)

This is for the amazing @ackerchou who has graced us with Season 2 Voltron Actor!AU headcannons and I LOVED THEM ALL. I’m writing dancing Lance and kiddie Coran and Allura next. Watch me. Pls check them out because I wanna write a fic for all of them. And because she is awesome and made me feel better on a day I felt bad. There’s aren’t many spoilers for season 2 in this fic but just in case it is tagged. I hope you enjoy it!

Keith was slightly ashamed to admit that he hadn’t watched the original Voltron before trying out for a part in the new series. In fact, he sort of, kinda, had never even heard of Voltron before until his first day on set as a Galra stunt double. That is until there was a surprise visit from the original cast from the 80’s Voltron series.

Keith was only slightly mortified that he was the only one who didn’t know who they were.

Especially since he had thought that Akira was an older stunt double and he had nearly flipped Akira on his shoulder when the man surprised him.

Even after all this, Lance still wouldn’t stop laughing.

And of course he had a video of Keith nearly flipping over the original leader of Voltron who was at least twice Keith’s age (but damn did he still look good) and very well known in the world of Voltron. The video even had Keith apologizing over and over to an amused Akira, while everyone stood around staring.

Keith would remember this next time Lance wanted something.

Currently he was hanging back in the background while the old cast of Voltron took a tour of the new set to see how far Voltron had come. There was awe and admiration thrown left and right from both the cast of the 80s and the cast of the 2010s. It was a strange sight to see the different cast members who played the paladins together, each very different in their own way and yet so perfect for each character they played.

Shiro was actually probably the most star struck at the moment, which was ironic considering he was a legend on set and a God, whose beauty had yet to be destroyed by ugly pictures from the paparazzi. In fact, it was said that no such picture of Takashi Shirogane ever existed; no one had ever been able to capture even the slightest hint of ugliness when capturing a photograph of him, and tabloid magazines were left in tears of their failure. However, to see Shiro in such awe and amazement, stumbling over his words was something of amusement to everyone else.

At first Keith was shocked, more so at Shiro’s bright eyes and awe, and was amazed at seeing the older and usually more calm actor nervous and bumbling around like he had on many occasions. Was Shiro human, just like he was? Was there a fluke in his perfection?

“It’s really such an honor to meet you all.” Shiro was currently shaking hands with Sven for about ten minutes now, and while Keith thought that was strange, Sven seemed to be taking Shiro’s eagerness with such grace and stride. He didn’t even mind the fact that Shiro had been shaking his hand for so long and only smiled down at the new Black Paladin. “I was such a fan of the original Voltron and I watched every single episode probably a hundred times, I’m sure it was more but that’s probably weird to say? Oh, I guess you know now because I’ve said it out loud now. It’s such an honor to meet you all. Wait, I’ve already said that, haven’t I?”

Sven and the others laughed, while Keith’s eyes widened when he noticed the blush on Shiro’s face. Could he actually be nervous right now? Keith could feel his own heart racing and his body was vibrating with nerves and excitement at having the original paladins so close to him.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too. All of you.” Sven smiled, causing Shiro to begin to slow down in shaking hands with Sven. “We heard that Voltron was making a comeback and after the success of the first season, we just had to come meet the geniuses who made it all happen.” Just when Sven and everyone thought that his hand would be free of shaking from Shiro, Shiro had started right back up and shook Sven’s hand with even more determination than before.

“Really? You guys watched the first season?” Lance asked curiously, from where he had been joking with the Blue Paladins and taking selfies that were sure to go on Instagram and blow up the fandom.

“Of course. How could we not?” Akira laughed, from where he was leaning against a ship prop and Keith couldn’t help but wish he could look that cool. “Though, I hadn’t quite expected for Sven’s character to replace me as leader.” Akira teased while Sven rolled his eyes.

“You’re just jealous because the new producers finally realized that I was always meant to be the Black Paladin after the monstrosity that was you.” Sven bit back playfully. “Besides, do you see who is playing my character? He’s a godsend for this show.” Shiro had momentarily forgotten how to use any of his limbs and he ability to speak had suddenly all but vanished from his mind. Finally, he had let Sven’s hand go and Sven was quick to let go before shoving Akira forward, where Shiro was eager to shake his hand, despite already having shook Akira’s hand three times already.

Luckily Akira only beamed at the actor.

“Well, I must say that the new Black Paladin is quite the charmer and an extraordinary actor choice.” Akira praised with a waggle of his eyebrows. Shiro continued to shake hands but no one missed the big fat tears that rolled down his cheeks as he whispered, “I love you so much. I loved your show so much.”

“All of the actors and actresses chosen for the show were excellent choices.” The princess’ original actress said with a smile. “Allura here is very well known and the only actress who is beautiful, badass and sweet enough to play the princess. When I heard they were making a remake, I was rooting for you to be picked after that last movie you were in. You were stunning!” Allura beamed brightly at the praise and everyone laughed.

“And Lance here, is the only person who could make the Blue Paladin’s character so hilarious, but still making his character more than a 2D comedic relief. Like bro, that episode in season 2 was spot on to his character.” The Blue Paladin’s original character laughed while slapping Lance on the back. Lance stuck his tongue out before snapping another snapchat of the other actor.

“Of course, and to see Pidge’s character as revealed to not have been a guy was honestly genius.” The Green Paladin’s original actor laughed. “Though they’re still a gremlin.”

“How could we not have a Gremlin?” Pidge clutched at their chest dramatically.

“Pidge certainly never gets out to see the sun or hydrates enough.” Lance shrugged his shoulder, only to yelp when Pidge had hit him on the head with a prop. He pouted and rubbed his head. “Hey now, I’m supposed to be the sharp shooter here!”

“You’re pretty badass too man.” The Yellow Paladin’s character fist bumped Hunk. Hunk nodded.

Shiro was still crying.

“Thanks.”

“And you make funny jokes.” The two fist bumped again.

“Thanks.”

“Also, that food looks delicious.”

“It is.” Hunk nodded and the two bumped fists again with another nod. Shiro was still shaking Akira’s hands.

“Plus, that show with you and Lance fucking broke my heart.”

“It’s what I do best.” Hunk nodded.

“And then there’s you.” Akira smiled, still shaking Shiro’s hands who was still blubbering quietly about how blessed he was for having seen the original Voltron, and how he couldn’t believe that he was meeting his heroes in person right now, and was this real life?

Suddenly though, all eyes including Akira’s had turned to Keith, who had been silently blending into the corner wall. Unsure of the attention, Keith further tried to back himself into the corner as if that would make him invisible to his friends and the old cast of Voltron. However to his dismay, he could not summon the powers of the dark lords and force his entire being to be shielded from sight. Darn.

Keith swallowed thickly. He was a nobody. Would they be disappointed in him? Would they have wished that someone else had been casted for the Red Paladin? What if he wasn’t good enough to play the Red Paladin? What if he should have quit?

“I’ve never heard of you before. Have you been in any movies or tv shows?” Akira asked quietly. Keith couldn’t tell if the look on Akira’s face was positive or negative, and it made him even more nervous than before. He could feel his throat beginning to twitch, as if he had an itch that couldn’t be scratched.

“Ah, um, no.”

“None? Have you ever acted before?” Keith could read an emotion of surprise on Akira’s face but everything else was blank and everyone else was still staring at Keith. Staring with what felt like a hundred eyes that could see the disappointment within him.

“W-Well yes. B-But mostly in commercials, I-I guess?” Keith rubbed the back of his neck nervously, cursing the fact that his stutter had decided to make a comeback in front of the Voltron Legends. Of course. He had thought that he’d had his stutter under control, but apparently not. Keith felt his stomach lurch.

“Really? I suppose that’s why your name and face had been unfamiliar when announced.” Akira nodded, rubbing his chin with the only free hand that was available. Keith swallowed thickly, wishing that he could just melt into the floor right at this moment. It felt as if Akira was analyzing him under a microscope, and was only finding disappointment in his replacement. Keith was ashamed to think that he could never live up to Akira or the standards set by him.

“No. Keith’s not you.” Shiro finally spoke up, eyes dry and bright. He had finally let go of Akira’s hand with Akira realizing and was moving towards Keith. Keith felt his heart beginning to drop at Shiro’s words, but it wasn’t like he could just ignore the truth. Keith wasn’t like everyone else there. “He’s new and fresh into the acting world.” Shiro continued before stopping beside Keith whose gaze had dropped to the floor and his entire body was screaming anxiety.

“No.” Shiro smiled softly before clapping a hand on Keith’s shoulder. “Keith is much better.” Keith’s neck snapped up so fast that he could hear a popping sound that probably wasn’t healthy, but he couldn’t care at all. Instead he was staring at Shiro in awe, who winked back at him, before staring nervously at Akira. He was pleasantly surprised to see Akira was simply laughing in amusement at Shiro’s words, rather than being angry.

“I think I liked you better when you were ogling us.” Akira teased and while Shiro blushed, he didn’t move away from Keith.

“I’m serious. Keith might be new to the acting world, but he’s amazing. You could even say he was out of this world.” Shiro winked while everyone else groaned. “Right from his first audition, Keith blew us away.”

“Seriously.” Lance added with a grin. “Like this kid – this fucking kid with purple contacts reads lines with me, like he’s already been casted as the Red Paladin – I swear he knew the lines already…” Lance’s eyes narrowed on Keith, causing Keith’s face to flush. “And he was born for this part, and then on top of it he’s this black belt Karate guy who can kick your ass –”

“Lance, it’s not Karate.”

“And he does his own stunts. All of them.” Lance continued without even looking Keith’s way. “Like this badass mofo, went and broke his own ankle and when the doctor tells him to take off for rest, does he? Noooooo. He continues to work, with a broken ankle and he gets me coffee like everyday. And he laughs at my jokes.” Akira and the others blinked at Lance still smiling before Pidge spoke up.

“His jokes are shitty. Keith is perfect enough to laugh at them when we all tell him to stop.” Pidge sighed sadly while Keith couldn’t help but snicker.

“Sometimes he teaches the stunt crew how to do a fight move correctly.” Hunk added softly.

“And he always apologizes!” Lance teased. “Even when people say they are okay, he still apologizes.” Lance snickered while Keith rolled his eyes with a fake sigh. Akira and Sven laughed.

“The point is. Keith’s a pretty great guy and we’re lucky to have him.” Shiro said gently, causing Keith’s own face to heat up. “I’m glad some super award winning, snot-nose actor didn’t fill the role of the Red Paladin because we couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role.”

Akira raised his hands, still smiling. “Hey now, I was just going to say that even though I’ve never heard of Keith, he was amazing as the Red Paladin and I think his career is only just starting. You’ve got some real talent here and I’m proud to see you as my predecessor.” Akira beamed, as he placed a hand down on Keith’s shoulder too. Keith’s mouth suddenly went dry and his eyes were bright as they stared at Akira. He couldn’t help but repeat Shiro’s early question of: was this real life?

“Welcome aboard to Voltron. I’m happy to see you here.” Akira and the rest of the original cast of Voltron greeted Keith with nothing but bright smiles and happy claps on the back. And Keith was in too much of a warm daze to do much of anything. That is until Lance spoke up.

“Hey, who wants to see a video of SasuKeith singing along to his favorite K-Pop band?”

“Lance if you show that to anyone I will shove a Quiznak down your throat!”
