My Obsession For A Reason

I’ve yet to come across a picture of this man and not save it.

I’ve never seen someone as beautiful as him.

However he’s more than just a pretty face and idol body.

I’m 'obsessed' with him, but I don’t really ‘want him’, I want the best for him.

I want to see him happy in song, happy in dance, happy on stage, happy eating, happy with friends, happy with fans.

I want him to have his peace, protection and privacy.

I want him to have his space and his freedom.

I want him to only hear ‘how can we help you’ and never ‘you can never.’

I want to understand him on the level he feels comfortable with and never make him feel uncomfortable.

I respect him as a public figure and a private person

As a human he’s not always gonna be happy, is gonna make mistakes, is not going to please everyone, will have had misunderstandings, anger, tears etc.

However to know what we do of him, he listens, he learns, he tries to be better and do better. No one that’s spoken of him can ever say he’s not the most selfless person they know, the most emotionally intelligent, the kindest. No one that has spoken of him can deny he gives his all to his friends, his members and his fans.

He does what he can both in private and public for his hometown and his country, to children, schools and foreign aid.

I love him deeply, as unique and talented artist and a perfectly imperfect human striving to make himself and what he can around him better.

If I only ever have all that he’s given to his fans and supporters I’m still content.

It's a genuine connection (PT.2)

Jikook has the most precious and winsome relationship. They love each other unconditionally. They are the epitome of true lovers. You can click this for part 1. If you haven't read that one yet.

They are each other's support systems.

When JK got upset and started crying due to frustration. He sang well, but he was not satisfied. JM came to him to console him and encourage him. He even hugged him. Action speaks louder than words.

When Jm asked JK to help him with his hand wraps. JK didn't hesitate to do so. He immediately offered help.

When JK got emotional reading his card to Army and started crying, JM rushed to comfort him. He invented"MJDBO" ( My Jungkook, Don't Cry, Be Happy, Okay?). And by doing so, JK's mood got better <3

When JM got nervous during his speech at the UNGA, JK turned towards him and nodded at his words to support him.

When JK couldn't concentrate well and wasn't feeling at his best. JM was there to comfort him.

Could we ever stop talking about this? Never. (Please do go see that video that is linked above. It's beautiful.)

This moment when JM pulled JK in because he leaned dangerously on the railing which could cause him to fall. Sweet Minie helping his Kookie :(

When Jungkook was doing his rehearsal for Euphoria. Jimin was there to support him.

When Jimin was cutting a sharp item. Jungkook cared and advised him to be careful.

JK and JM care for each other by removing the confetti from their hair.

When Jimin had to do the punishment, Jungkook made a big pancake for him.

Just a few additional moments of Jungkook feeding Jimin. I briefly touched on Jungkook competitiveness softening when it comes to Jimin here.

That's about it. Is the end of this "It's a genuine connection" series? Not sure. You can always drop recommendations in my asks or chat box on more jikook moments posts. For example, 1) jikook top/fav vocals and 2) jikook top run bts moments. Something like that. I would love to make them!

How I became A.R.M.Y.

Legend has it that you find BTS when you need them, and that’s certainly the case for me. Last year I was having a hard time and looking for things to cheer me up.

Although I’ve enjoyed k-dramas for years I never really listened to K-pop before last year. After watching True Beauty and Semantic Error I thought I’d check out Astro and KNK on YouTube. Probably because of this, this video with the thumbnail above kept being suggested to me.

I had heard of BTS of course (I loved what BTS Army had done in 2020 for example) but I clicked on the video because I saw BTS were at the UN General Assembly. The song was catchy and the boys* had a certain twinkle in their eye which was appealing, but I really wanted to know why they were performing at the UNGA so I looked for more videos about them.

And that’s how I fell down the rabbit hole.

*l don’t use ‘boys’ to disparage the group in any way but I thought they were quite young to begin with. They are also closer to my son’s age than mine so I sometimes think of them as boys**.

To show off his chest and Army logo shaped abs 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (insert shirtless PTD backstage photos where he had them oiled 🫠)

When BTS was attending BBMAs to get their 'Top Social Artist' awards, Jungkook said in an interview that he's more into street style clothes like Kanye wears which are rugged, basic and carefree. Exactly what Calvin Klein so that's why he went that way 💯

For me one of the worst outfits he wore was when he was in Suchwita, the top was awfully loose and don't get me started on those completely ripped jeans 😭 💀

Well….

Calvin klein is not kanye-like and street clothes they’re just basic denim.

The real kanye-esque and street style brands that have clothes like that are *sigh* balenciaga, prada but they’re more cleaner and minimalist, the old ysl with their skinny jeans and leather jackets (see 2012-2013 harry styles), even louis viitton (does anyone remember him wearing that stunning blue and yellow idk if it’s rainbow but it’s a louis Vuitton matching set).

Hi! Just read your tattoo post - very well written and informative! I often wonder, (and btw I am a full supporter that the “JM” tatt means exactly that, JM. JiMin- ) do you think JK could’ve got the army tatt and someone said to him in between the J being added that funnily enough it could make all the members initials, if he added a J?

Like you said though, he could have easily found another place for it if he didn’t want the connotation to be that JM = Jimin. So he clearly doesn’t mind:)

Glad you found the tattoo post informative! It was quite fun to write and a very interesting topic to research I’m a sucker for research! Now, with regards to your questions. I perceive JK as someone who is very set in his ways and who has had a very graceful growth, considering the environment he basically grew up in, being the KPOP world. He has a very strong sense of self and had things gone even a little bit awry, I feel like he maybe would have risked becoming not very considerate of other people’s emotions or opinions in an alarming way.

Yet, thanks to his not-toxic-immediate-environment (being the other members, his immediate family, close friends, and perhaps few other people) he has learned how to react and gauge different types of situation where for example it is okay for him to be himself and not concede (for example, when he was arguing with JM about where the couch would go in ep149 BEHIND THE SCENES of RUN BTS)

from other situations where, depending on the person in question, he will concede his own opinion and seem to prefer to provide support rather than adding to the predicament concerning said person’s expense, which he seems to do a lot when said person is JM btw regardless of everyone else being on with say for example a joke (like during their VLIVE after the 2021 UNGA in September, when he amongst the members he spoke in JM’s defence).

Basically Jeon Jungkook does what Jeon Jungkook wants to do.

What people say is relevant to him only to a certain extent, which is depending on the situation and depending on who you are. ARMY for example is another entity that is very important to JK. He’d do almost anything to make ARMY happy, almost because in itself, though it may not seem so, JK is in fact in a sort of “long term relationship” with ARMY and has long already decided, and se,t his boundaries with us.

Now, let’s take this further to try and answer your questions, which of course can be but be only speculation and educated guessing. Imagine this: You live in SK and tattoos are not exactly the easiest thing to go about parading in your country. They are definitely not, yet your friend comes up to you with a tattoo that clearly spells the name of his fandom, what are your first thoughts? Mine would probably be He’s really crazy for his fans in a maybe weird way, like, you get a tattoo and what you do is tattoo the name of your fandom on your hand? To keep forever? I guess if I’m that big it will make the fans happy … but I don’t know, like, is this for me or them? What? That would be what I’d think in my head, but then I’d look at him and ask “Why?/Really?... but like, whatever makes you happy man!”. I’d basically be so shocked that I wouldn’t even be able to suggest adding any more letters to all of that, as I’m also still getting over the fact that he indeed has a freaking tattoo to begin with and don’t forget that there was also a smiley face and a purple heart … like mate 🥴

And then I'd be pretend like I never reacted the way I did, like I had always been supportive and i was just a bit shocked at first, when time later he'd come to reminding me how I was doubtful of his first ink 🙄🙄🙄...

We must also remember that JK’s friends are JK’s friends. If you are my friend and the first thing I say after seeing your tattoos is: by the way if you add a J on top of the M, that A looks like an upside down V and you know what you’d then spell? 🎵Kim-Nam-Joon, Kim-Seok-Jin, Min-Yoon-Gi, Jung-Ho-Seok, Park-Ji-Min, Kim-Tae-Hyung, YOU, BTS!🎶? Imma right? Won’t it be sick to have them too? Now, I’ve drawn my brother’s tattoo, but that was only because he begged me to I actually didn’t want to, and in the end he didn’t even get it tsk 😒, if not never in a million years would I even think of suggesting what I‘ve noticed his tattoo could look like if he added so-and-so on his body.

I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but permanent ink is meant to be permanent I mean you can get it off but it is an ordeal and not advisable, you’ve basically sat down and decided, right here, right now, this is what I want to keep forever. And let me add this. A part of me feels like, if he had indeed wanted to tattoo all the members on his fingers he would have not done it in such a way that it could have been left for interpretation. They ARE an important part of him, yet, once again, when you look at that hand, what really stands out is; ARMY across, JM down.

Surely he wouldn’t want his other members to be perceived as an afterthought since the J came after; don’t you think?

like it’s weird that the narrative is that u have to be proud of bts for making waves or wtv talking at the white house and unga without them actually having said anything of worth at these events since 2019…. Like it’s weird that both armys and hybe are holding onto this "bts crusaders of social change" idea but hybe obviously won’t allow anything of weight to be said for fear of it affecting revenue and armys will just eat up bare minimum and vague statements that don’t actually contest or propose avenues of change . like tell me how dedicating half the broadcasted message to thanking fans is gonna end racism ….

Someone was just asking me if with BTS going to the White House they were set to use their diplomatic passports.

So let me tell you something, chances are they don’t have diplomatic passports anymore (and that’s fine)

Here’s the reasoning behind it:

1. They were under the legal figure of ‘presidential envoys’ meaning that their appointment was closely tied to the administration, by general rule in diplomacy, whatever happens during an administration gets overruled as soon as the next administration comes, especially in SK’s legal system. There no big news or really anything cause it’s just- a sort of expiration.

2. The figure wasn’t just ‘presidential envoys’ but ‘presidential special envoys’ which adds to the mix a certain something bureaucratic-wise. What we call a diplomatic mission. So in order for them to get diplomatic passports, they would have had to fill a form stating what exact activities they were going to do outside of Korea, set limits to what they were using their passports for, which in this case was the UNGA, ‘special envoys’ are temporary appointments and are over as soon as their tasks are done, so chances are- even if they get to keep their passports, they can’t really use them since they were valid solely for the previously mentioned activity.

But wait— they were invited by the White House, they should be given special treatment!

Eh…. Not really, common law works differently in a lot of ways (diplomacy-wise) and it would be hard to really understand this via Tumblr but basically protocol/diplomacy is only applicable when we are talking State-level diplomacy, BTS aren’t attending the WH as Korea’s official representatives, but as an influential entity that is part of the international community, relevant for the specific event due to the fact that they are Asian.

But- we would have known if their diplomatic passports were revoked.

Nope, diplomatic relations are air-tight, and having a diplomatic passport revoked due to administrative reasons is no biggie it’s just like a driver license expiring. Except you can’t really just get another one easily whenever you’d like to. Or get as many as you’d like over your lifetime, there’s counted times you can be politically appointed without being a government official via merit. But hey, if the new administration ever wants to use them as a soft power tool, we’ll get to see them have a pretty ceremony again

#a smol rant bc this person really tried to fight me on this one #and I had to actually read SK legislation to make sure I wasn’t spitting lies #as if I haven’t been specialising in SK diplomatic relations for the past few months #then again I’m too tired and busy to try and look for the official statement from last year #anddd it might not actually contain the terms since those tend to be government-only #but hey #at least to my understanding #studying and practice in the matter #it works like that
