Recognizing and Responding To The Adversary of the Abrahamic Faiths and All of The Adversary's Servants, Slaves, and Allies. Part 2/13.

Story Time: A Tale of Balloons… Once upon a time, there were three balloons. There were three life choices for each of these balloons; once they chose, that was it, because balloons are fragile things that always pop. The three balloons could choose to be filled with only one of three fillings that'd have to last them until they popped at the end of their life.

Choice 1: Plain air. With plain air, you know exactly what to expect. You can be tossed into the air and float for moments at a time; you can be fly free with the winds and breezes; you can be a joy to others because they know what to expect and how to interact with a plain air-filled balloon, but being played with can sometimes lead to being popped prematurely. Once a plain air-filled balloon pops, the air disperses, the ruptured balloon is disposed of, and the only legacy that can be hoped for is to live on in humanity's memory.

Choice 2: Helium. With helium, a balloon doesn't need anything from anyone; a helium-filled balloon can feel light, free, and untethered from humans; a helium balloon can fly free like no human can; those ground-dwelling humans and their plain air-filled balloons will never know the truth of what it's like to be free and high above it all; but helium only has a lifespan of around 2-3 days before you'll basically be a plain air-filled balloon who acted like a helium balloon for those 2-3 days, and the humans and other plain air-filled ballons will never forget your behavior. After those 2-3 days of helium-filled freedom and looking down upon everyone else, will the humans and other plain air-filled balloons want to spend any time with you, or will you have to watch them all enjoy each other's company without you? Will anyone even hear or care that you popped at the end of your life? When a helium-filled balloon pops, the flat, stale helium disperses, the ruptured balloon is disposed of, and the only legacy that can be hoped for is to live on in humanity's memory. Some famous and well-known helium balloons used their 2-3 minutes of ultimate freedom to live out their darkest fantasies by teaming up with a nasty clown to help it be really, really nasty to people. Quite a legacy!

Choice 3: Semisolid Clay. With clay, it's a special clay that'll fill the balloon to its maximum capacity without ever popping it, but the catch is that the clay-filled balloon will take the rest of the balloon's life to cure and harden so that when the balloon finally pops, no matter when or why the balloon pops, the clay will instantly cure and harden and there'll be a permanent monument to the balloon's entire life. The catch is that humans always play with balloons; and a balloon filled with the special clay is really squishy, cuddly, and fun to handle. Humans are constanly leaving their fingerprints all over clay-filled balloons, and all of those fingerprints will be part of the final design and pattern of the hardened clay the instant the balloon pops at the end of its life. Every human that's ever played with the clay-filled balloon will be able to see their permanent fingerprints and remember their time with the balloon, how it affected their life, and how they affected the balloon's life. The extra-special thing about the clay-filled balloon's legacy is that it can be 3D scanned in high definition and 3D printed indefinitely, so that anyone and everyone who interacted with that clay-filled balloon can have a permanent memorial of how important Choice 3 truly is to the balloon and humanity's humanity.

Choice 3 is love. For better and for worse, in all it's ever-changing forms, love is the only choice that never fails. No matter what a person might think or feel about love, in the United States, a person can lose all of their family, friends, associates, and material possessions and still find love from complete strangers; because those strangers believe in love, that love never fails, that love has never failed, and that love can never be allowed to fail because they didn't share it when they could've and should've with a complete stranger who's never known or experienced true selfless love in their entire life. The foundation of humanitarianism is being human; no matter how the helium-filled balloons of the world try to redefine life and being a "real human," humans will always be humanitarian; and antihumans (elitists) will always be antihumanitarians who believe they're entitled to prey upon humanity because they can (and they're encouraged to as often as possible to prove their "eliteness" to and with the nasty clowns of the world).

One great thing about authentic Hebrew TANAKH-based Christianity is that mistakes are judged fairly, sins are forgiven, and lives and communities are blessed with love, miracles, and prosperity for a simple "admission cost": if anyone seeking the love, salvation, and redemption of the Almighty Abrahamic G-d has chosen a nasty clown master by mistake, all they have to do is admit it to themselves and the Almighty Abrahamic G-d, and then humbly seek forgiveness, acceptance, and a loving, honest, and respectful relationship with their Creator (it's all explained in detail in the Hebrew TANAKH if anyone's interested). All change happens in nanoseconds and the spaces between nanoseconds. All of the earthquakes and other time-specific events I blog about here happen at an exact second that's surrounded by nanoseconds and the spaces between nanoseconds.

It takes sunlight an average of 8 minutes and 20 seconds to travel from the Sun to the Earth. (Phys.org) Does that mean we're ever in the dark at any point during sunlight hours? Does it mean that we don't see sunlight on a dark moonlit night? Does it mean that even when the moon can't be seen, that we don't have starlight? 8 minutes and 20 seconds is a lot of opportunity to get educated, well-informed, and make some kind of freewill choice about your future; because just like sunlight, the past is the past, change and renewal is constant, and every nanosecond is a new opportunity to choose a bright, loving, healthy, and prosperous future, the complete opposite, or the somewhere inbetween where most people usually end up as they're constantly processing and testing information about their lives and the world around them.

The star nearest our Solar System, Proxima Centauri, is about four lightyears away. The light traveling from Proxima Centauri to Earth takes about four years to get here. Thus, the light is four years old when we see it. Another nearby star is Barnard's Star, which is six lightyears from Earth. It's light takes six years to get here, so that light is six years old when we see it. The star Polaris, which we refer to as the North Star or North Pole Star, is 680 lightyears away. The light takes 680 years to travel to Earth, so it is 680 years old when we see it. Everyone can make a freewill choice about how and if they'll be remembered four, six, 680, or 2,000 years after they're gone. It's been nearly 2,000 years and Jesus Christ is still remembered because he always chose the right master. Europeans have been trying to supplant and erase the truth and knowledge about the Almighty Abrahamic G-d of the Abrahamic faiths, the Hebrew TANAKH scriptures, and the Hebrews of Earth via the "Old Testament" and the Sunday "Lord's Day," yet they all still remain to this day. None of the empires of the servants, slaves, and allies of The Adversary (aka "satan" or "the devil") have survived their efforts; because Jesus Christ warned them and they fooled around and found out anyway while trying to prove that no one and nothing tells a self-proclaimed deity what they can and can't, and should and shouldn't, do.

It's such an interesting truth that women who knew the truth about Aleister Crowley and Anton LaVey were extremely unimpressed and found them both to be pathetic, worthless losers; and that's exactly how both Aleister Crowley's and Anton LaVey's lives ended. What happened to their genetic superiority? What happened to their demon infested deity-level real magic powers? What happened to their superior intellect and mind control slave overlord powers? Hmm…sure seems like their lives proved once and for all that none of that con artist nonsense was ever real.

Here's some information from Wikipedia about how Jesus Christ would've actually considered His interactions with The Adversary and Accuser who attempted to tempt Him in the wilderness: Most Jews do not believe in the existence of a supernatural omnimalevolent figure. Traditionalists and philosophers in medieval Judaism adhered to rational theology, rejecting any belief in rebel or fallen angels, and viewing evil as abstract. The rabbis usually interpreted the word satan lacking the article ha- as it is used in the Tanakh as referring strictly to human adversaries. Rabbinical scholarship on the Book of Job generally follows the Talmud and Maimonides in identifying "the satan" from the prologue as a metaphor for the yetzer hara and not an actual entity. The Hebrew term śāṭān (Hebrew: שָׂטָן) is a generic noun meaning "accuser" or "adversary", and is derived from a verb meaning primarily "to obstruct, oppose". When used without the definite article (simply satan), it can refer to any accuser, but when it is used with the definite article (ha-satan), it usually refers specifically to the heavenly accuser, literally, the satan. The word does not occur in the Book of Genesis, which mentions only a talking serpent and does not identify the serpent with any supernatural entity. Book of Job The satan appears in the Book of Job, a poetic dialogue set within a prose framework, which may have been written around the time of the Babylonian captivity. In the text, Job is a righteous man favored by Yahweh. Job 1:6–8 describes the "sons of God" (bənê hāʼĕlōhîm) presenting themselves before Yahweh. Yahweh asks one of them, "the satan", where he has been, to which he replies that he has been roaming around the earth. Yahweh asks, "Have you considered My servant Job?" The satan replies by urging Yahweh to let him torture Job, promising that Job will abandon his faith at the first tribulation. Yahweh consents: the satan destroys Job's servants and flocks, yet Job refuses to condemn Yahweh. The first scene repeats itself, with the satan presenting himself to Yahweh alongside the other "sons of God". Yahweh points out Job's continued faithfulness, to which the satan insists that more testing is necessary; Yahweh once again gives him permission to test Job. In the end, Job remains faithful and righteous, and it is implied that the satan is shamed in his defeat. Book of Zechariah Zechariah 3:1–7 contains a description of a vision dated to the middle of February of 519 BC, in which an angel shows Zechariah a scene of Joshua the High Priest dressed in filthy rags, representing the nation of Judah and its sins, on trial with Yahweh as the judge and the satan standing as the prosecutor. Yahweh rebukes the satan and orders for Joshua to be given clean clothes, representing Yahweh's forgiveness of Judah's sins. (Wikipedia)

Consider the quotes below and replace "Satan" and "the devil" with "The Europeans attempting to invalidate the Hebrew TANAKH by identifying it as being "old, outdated, useless, and worthless" via the Christian "Old Testament", killing millions of Hebrews, endlessly profaning the seventh-day sabbath, destroying the Second Temple of the Almighty Abrahamic G-d of the Abrahamic faiths, and attempting to erase all true knowledge of the Almighty Abrahamic G-d, all of the Abrahamic faiths, and all of the people of all of the Abrahamic faiths." There couldn't be a clearer definition of who "The Adversary" actually is, so the Europeans intentionally misinterpreted and mistranslated "The Adversary" so it wouldn't be so glaringly obvious who "The Adversary" truly is; because that'd be devastating for their Replacement Theology and attempts to validate their European mythology and self-deifying selves as the "Anointed and Ordained True People of the Middle Eastern Almighty Abrahamic G-d of the Abrahamic faiths." Their endgame appears to be creating a world where no one would ever think to pray to the Almighty Abrahamic G-d to rescue them from a bunch of delusional godless dictators who proclaim themselves to be the only true gods anyone will be worshipping on Earth from that point forward.

Oh, no!!! Not a flatulent, frolicking, fallen loser! Not that!!! Anything butt that!!! Satan had minimal role in medieval Christian theology, but he frequently appeared as a recurring comedic stock character in late medieval mystery plays, in which he was portrayed as a comic relief figure who "frolicked, fell, and farted in the background." The "beast" mentioned in Revelation 13 is not Satan, and the use of 666 in the Book of Revelation has been interpreted as a reference to the Roman Emperor Nero, as 666 is the numeric value of his name in Hebrew. Supersessionism, also called replacement theology or fulfillment theology, is a Christian theological doctrine which describes the theological conviction that the Christian Church has superseded the nation of Israel assuming their role as God's covenanted people, thus asserting that the New Covenant through Jesus Christ has superseded or replaced the Mosaic covenant exclusive to Jews. Supersessionist theology also holds that the universal Christian Church has succeeded ancient Israel as God's true Israel and that Christians have succeeded the ancient Israelites as the people of God. (Wikipedia) Christian Identity (also known as Identity Christianity) is an interpretation of Christianity which advocates the belief that only Celtic and Germanic peoples, such as the Anglo-Saxon, Nordic nations, or Aryan people and people of kindred blood, are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and are therefore the descendants of the ancient Israelites. Christian Identity promotes the idea that all non-whites (people who are not of wholly European descent) will either be exterminated or enslaved in order to serve the white race in the new Heavenly Kingdom on Earth under the reign of Jesus Christ. [220329] GONG JUN - SUPERELLE APRIL 2022 ISSUE

In the entertainment industry, Gong Jun is neither an early success nor a late bloomer. Before the opportunity came, he was diligent and self-disciplined, and when the opportunity came, he was still humble and peaceful. What Gong Jun wants more, is continuous growth and continuous flow.

On the day of the interview, the weather in Qingdao was sunny. Gong Jun was sitting in the dressing room wearing a white shirt with his sleeves rolled up high. To his right, there was a large floor-to-ceiling window, and the sea was outside the window.

This is Gong Jun's first winter in Qingdao. "It's cold and windy, but the scenery is good." Gong Jun filmed "Rising With The Wind" in Qingdao, playing the business elite Xu Si in the drama. The drama filming has not wrapped yet, Gong Jun can't talk about it too much, he can only share more feelings about living here. For example, the weather is very dry, so he bought a humidifier, but he still "can't stand it". The good thing is, he likes to eat the raw and pickled seafood here. Yesterday, his friends cooked scallops and oysters and sent them over, he thought it was delicious.

Gong Jun has been away from his hometown of Chengdu for more than ten years. When he was a child, his parents owned a provision store. At that time, Gong Jun thought that it would be great if he could open a skewer store and a hot pot store in the future. But he didn't expect to become an actor when he grew up, and also now he seldom eats red soup hot pot. "I'm not prone to putting on weight easily, but I will still put on weight." Gong Jun is very self-controlled and eats very little carbohydrates. It is not a special requirement for the characters he portrays, but comes from his self-discipline, "You can't get fat when filming."

Gong Jun also likes to exercise. He is very busy with filming, so he can only go to the gym when he has the time. “Fitness training allows me to maintain my body lines and rejuvenate. When I see the effect, I want to maintain it." Gong Jun graduated from the performance department of Donghua University. Yuan Che, the frank and loyal eleventh prince in the costume fantasy romance drama "Lost Love in Times", made him known to some audiences, but this is not enough for him to gain a firm foothold in the entertainment industry.

Gong Jun is very afraid that he would stop, because "I don't know what else I could film after this drama is completed”. In the early hours of the morning, he was still filming on set, after wrapping for the day he had to go to a different city to film a variety show. At times he had more than ten interviews per day, and slept an average of five hours a day... He used to be able to go shopping and eating with friends at will, but now he is afraid of disturbing the public order, he can only make a restaurant booth reservation in advance. However, the compression of personal space also means the broadening of the acting path, at least now when he is selecting drama roles, it’s no longer that passive.

In the rescue-themed emotional drama "The Flaming Heart", Gong Jun played the brave, calm, restrained and determined firefighter Huo Yan, and in the romantic suspense drama "Dream Garden", he became a strict and dedicated psychological counselor Lin Shen, from July to November last year, he filmed "The Legend of An Le" in Hengdian for four months. From December, he played the investor Xu Si in the urban workplace drama "Rising With The Wind". Gong Jun said that when choosing dramas, he will try to avoid similar roles, because, "Not only will the audience feel bored, I will not have a feeling of freshness too."

Gong Jun believes that he is not a talented actor, he can only rely on "acting a lot, seeing a lot, and slowly trying to understand what acting is about". He also doesn't feel that he is able to sense the environment richly, but his “ability to empathize is quite good". Sometimes when his drama character talks about their own life experience or emotional troubles, the corresponding imagery will appear in Gong Jun’s mind, but sometimes due to the constraints of time or space, he cannot 100% interpret the character, but Gong Jun will find a way to be more mindful.

After a long time, these characters have all become people that Gong Jun has spent time with, they are intertwined in Gong Jun's memory, often making him feel like he is traveling through time and space. In the summer of last year, he was filming the costume drama "The Legend of An Le" in Hengdian, he wore a thick headgear and thick clothes every day, and his scalp was allergic. How did he suddenly transform into a business elite? Gong Jun thinks that the most amazing thing about being an actor is this kind of change, it’s not saying goodbye to each role, but seeing the growth they bestowed on you.

In the past six months, Gong Jun has also started thinking about things in the long term. "What I'm perplexed about now is how to transform, what works to film in the future, and how to go further. You have to know what you are doing in this career, and you have to make plans for yourself, instead of letting others push you along." Right now, there are no exact answers to these questions, but Gong Jun is not in a hurry. There might not be a moment of sudden enlightenment and inspiration in the future, but he says, it won’t be wrong to feel slowly and improve slowly.

SuperELLE: For you now, is it important to maintain a good body line on camera?

Gong Jun: It is very important at present, I hope that I look good in front of the audience. In the future if the role requires it, for example, like Matthew McConaughey, to portray someone who is fat or thin, then I will also do it.

SuperELLE: Besides fitness training, what other sports would you like to try?

Gong Jun: I think snowboarding is very cool, and I have taken a few classes. But the thing I want to do most is a self-driving road trip. If I can, I will drive all over the world. The car gives me a feeling of freedom, I can go where I want to go, I can see the scenery along the way, and I can also experience different people and cultures.

SuperELLE: What qualities have your past roles given you?

Gong Jun: What I learned from each character is different. Every industry has its own story, and the process of portraying the role is also experiencing a different life. For example, when portraying a psychological counselor or an elite investor, after receiving the script the first time you may not understand when you read it, but you can check it yourself and discuss it with the screenwriter, it isn’t a very in-depth knowledge of the industry, but you can know a few things.

SuperELLE: So each character bestows on you a different energy.

Gong Jun: Yes, actors are quite lucky in this aspect. You can feel different environments, characters, atmospheres, and that's something I really enjoy.

SuperELLE: What movie and TV works have you watched recently?

Gong Jun: Those I didn’t watch last year. “The Father”, “The Lincoln Lawyer”, “Dune”, “Don't Look Up”. And Teacher Zhou Xun and Teacher Huang Lei’s “A Little Mood for Love”, I heard that many of their details were created on the spot. But the presentation method of a film and a television drama is different, a film has to be expressed in the shortest possible time. For television dramas, especially modern dramas, the performance method should be more lifelike, these can all be referenced.”

I’ve got a build mode submission for the wishlist that I’ve been looking for for a long time; I’d really love a wig stand with some hairstyles that can go on top if possible. I’ve seen it done by alpha creators but the only MM one I found, the download link no longer works and it broke my heart

Fantastic idea. Let's give it a shot! I would love to see if a creator could and would be able to create a maxis-match classic Ballet Workout Set. Including two simple Tutu's one classic short the other one long. A classic leotard, wrap top, wrap skirt, ankle leg warmers as well as a pair of thigh high ones. All in classic ballet colors black, white and pink. ;) Nothing fancy! If the creator wants some examples what I mean I could provide pics. But that would be so dope! ❤️

#SSSWish I'm half Filipino, but I hardly see any Filipino content in the Sims Community. I would love to own a Maxis Match Barong or Maria Clara dress for formal events in the game. I think it would be a great way to add more representation in the game, especially when I know there are a handful of PilAms and Pinoy players. Thanks for hearing me out, and thanks for all the work you do to make this games playable. I really enjoy all your hard work!

#SSSWishlist hello! I would love if cc creators can consider making more patterns for Kimono/Yukata (traditional Japanese clothing). I find the in-game versions kinda bland, and there are not many floral Kimonos even though its commonly seen in Japanese festivals. Would appreciate if there's Japanese hairstyle cc with big flowerly accessory to pair with the Kimono too! Same for the male Yukatas, just not floral print maybe. If it's not too much, children's version is also appreciated!

For the SSS Wishlist, I would Love to see a set of three to four hairstyles, all with the same texture. Something like long hair down, a ponytail, and an updo, all with the same wavy or curly or straight texture, all with the same bangs or whatever. Just something that could be used to look like my sims change hairstyle now and them.

Sorry I wasn’t to sure where to put the hashtag #SSSWish or where to submit the wish.

My wish is to have more swatches for the snowboard and skis. If there could be more LED designs, interesting designs and the swatches for kids for T-E boards. It would be great.

The other wish would be to have more Kimono designs in Maxis Match and/or recolors with more patterns. There are so many patterns that I have seen while looking at real life kimonos and there are so many patterns, styles and colors that are missing in the game.

This seems like a fun idea! What I have been wanting for ages (like since TS2 era ages) is a hair style that completely covers one eye, like Violet at the start of The Incredibles. Most of the peekaboo bangs hairs I've seen are a little *too* stylish and I mostly just want one where someone is clearly trying to cover up half their face with it.

#SSSWish - I would love to see a someone put together clothing that accurately reflects the Starfleet uniforms seen on the television shows, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (collar version), "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (colored shoulders) or the later movie uniforms (grey shoulders w/ colored undershirt). I've seen people asking for these uniforms for quite some time now, and I think, if done well, they could be a popular download. A separate chest combadge accessory would be nice too.

Hey there, that #SSSWish thing is a super cool idea! I do have a wish too - I would love to see the EL utility jumpsuit converted for male framed sims. It can be unlocked by creating an override and unchecking the frame restrictions in S4S, but then the body changes to a female frame. So if anybody out there could do that properly, I'd be extremely grateful :3

#SSSWishlist i know i already saw some people here ask for more yukata/kimono swatches here and i would like the say i really do think we need them (not just for the adults but the younger ages too, id like for the toddlers kimono not to have the hifu? vest as well but that sounds more complicated).

My Super Secret Wish is a mod, or even a tweak of an existing mod, that stops toddlers from shying away from hugs they ask for during the “Check Toddler” interaction. It is *so* irritating to see a toddler respond to a❓with a ❤️ and open arms then step back, often with a 💔, and push the adult away. I’ve tried to stop it with MCCC but no luck.

One of my favorite parts of the game is creating a restaurant or a vet clinic, but the employees are impossible to keep satisfied and they all eventually quit. It would be nice if there was a way to keep them permanently satisfied, or at least make it easier. There is a mod for this but it is extremely outdated and doesn't work anymore. If anyone could update it or make a new one that would be great! 😁

Hi ! There is quite a few things I’d like, but I narrowed it down to three “small” things:

- An accessory top with a high neckline and no sleeves - just to hide cleavage - maybe with some lace at the edge ? and several grey and pastel colors please.

- Some accessory prints for shirts, like those tukete has, maybe some aimed at kids and toddlers too ?

- Makeup for kids. Some people let their kids wear makeup in real life, but adult cc makeup don’t look right on kids, so if anyone is interested in trying… I’d like eye-shadow and lipstick, with some discreet options (but you can go all out too of course).

What I would really like is just something cute for boys! Toddler or child is fine, but little boys get so little love in the community – it can be a hairstyle, an outfit, some bedding recolors with trucks and animals and such, even just a set of a few ‘boys getting into trouble’ poses. Hello! This #SSSWish is such a fun idea~ Personally, I'd love if someone updated the Plantsims mods that have broken over the numerous updates. Like, G1G2's Revamped Plantsims, Triplis' Plantsim Interactions, and Simonch8's No Cooldown & Trait mods. I've always loved Plantsims since Sims 2 & 3 days, but my knowledge of modding (and especially updating mods) is near nonexistent, so I can't do this myself. It would be awesome if someone could do it so the community could enjoy Plantsims again~!

#ssswish This is such a lovely idea! There are so many fun wishes! What I’d like to have (and I think would also be useful for other Simmers) is a wedding themed recolor of the “large pile of presents.” I usually put one of those piles in my wedding venue so that the bride and groom can “open presents” together. But the colors that are on the original are not what you usually see on presents at weddings. (I usually opt for the one that is mostly purple, since purple and lavender are my favorite colors.) What I’d like to have are recolors in white, white/gold, and white/silver. Maybe some white/pastels (especially lavender, pink and blue. The white/pastel recolors would also be nice for having a party that you call a “baby shower” especially if yellow and light green were also available. That kind of party isn’t in the game, but it should be!)

I don’t see the #SSSwish I submitted on your public list (I forgot to use the hashtag before) so I’m submitting it again. I would love to see a mod, or tweak of an existing mod, that stops toddlers from pulling away from a hug after they asked for one in response to a Check Toddler. The toddler will hold up its arms with a ❤️ in the speech bubble then step back and refuse the hug, and the relationship takes a hit. I tried MCCC’s tuner to stop it but it didn’t work.

i would love some…chinese cc haha! With snowy escape there’s more build items that can be used, I’ve noticed there tends to be a lot of Japanese inspired cc even before that pack, but not a lot of things from other parts of Asia, especially ancient cultures or cultural items like instruments (decor), clothing, furniture (lohan beds), etc. I’ve gone looking but most of what I’ve found is locked behind chinese-only forums and is usually alpha…I just think it would be cool to see some mm stuff from other places esp as fandoms get more globalized

This is an absolutely fantastic idea! I haven't been able to look around lately but I noticed that most rings/hand accessories aren't compatible with SkinDetail eyelashes. My wish is exactly hand accessories, specifically wedding rings, which don't conflict with SkinDetail eyelashes. It may be helpful to know that plumbobteasociety managed it in their RRS pack. Lastly, you guys rock!

I have another #SSSWish (if you don't mind). I don't know if it already exists but a mod which adds more family relationship options to CAS or the Sim menu. Like grandparents, cousins, step- and half-siblings, step-parents, etc. It would be easier instead of having to create additional Sims just to create diverse relationships.

I would love to see some more truly alien clothing options for the aliens, the males especially. I sometimes like to dress mine up in complete different outfits for their alien and disguise forms. Great Old One, Haspergrin CR 28 CE Outsider (native) This towering humanoid appears as a scarecrow made by a madman. Its head is vaguely beak-like, a cape of shredded leather and feathers hangs off of its back, and its legs appear to be composed of yokes and horse collars. It clutches a massive scythe in one hand, and its other arm is oversized and tipped with blade-like claws.

Haspergrin, the Rotting Reave, is the Great Old One associated with the destruction of cities and the collapse of industrial societies. His cult is obscure in worlds without access to technology, but to advanced civilizations he is a bogeyman first class. His ultimate goal is to see all settlements wiped away, and for humanoids to live once more in small, scattered and terrified groups, no longer able to impose their will on the world. As such, his dogma appeals to many druids, who find themselves growing more corrupted and hateful even if they began with good intentions. His cult often recruits from the ranks of the oppressed underclasses in cities, encouraging them to tear down the foundations of lives without proposing any alternative but violence and chaos. He delights in deaths intended to “save the planet”, and his followers spread disease as a form of “population control”.

Haspergrin’s very presence snuffs out all artificial light sources, and as such he prefers to make himself known at night or underground. Before making his grand entrance, he will often use mythic contagion to spread a disease for miles around, weakening resistance and shattering morale before he even strikes. Those that see him find their higher brain functions stripped away, collapsing into a primal, animal state. His battle tactics involve destroying weapons and armor with his mighty scythe, and spreading diseases as widely as possible with his great claw. He will often allow some of his foes to survive his onslaughts, to serve as a reminder of his wrath and to die slowly of contagion.

Haspergrin has stalked humanity for millennia. He was originally a sahkil tormentor, devoted to the fear of the dark. But as humans built cities, developed artificial lighting, and banished night from their lives, Haspergrin grew ever more hateful. How exactly he transcended the ranks of the sahkils is somewhat mysterious, but his faithful hold that his current form emerged from the body of his old one as an imago emerges from its cocoon. Sages suspect that this transformation was permitted under the aegis of one of the Elder Gods, such as Sheol Nugganoth or Nyarlathotep. The current sahkil tormentors see him as an enemy, especially Kasadeya, whose concerns often focus on high society. Haspergrin can still summon sahkils, who obey him out of respect for his former status and fear of the fate that awaits them if they disobey.

It deals 1.5x Haspergrin’s Strength modifier as bonus damage. Haspergrin can also wield a scythe in one hand without penalty. Immortality (Ex) When Haspergrin is slain, his body disappears, leaving behind only his scythe. The first creature that picks up his scythe must succeed a DC 36 Will save or be compelled to build Haspergrin a new body, which takes 1 week of work before it animates and Haspergrin lives again. If this save is succeeded, or nobody touches the scythe, it fades away after 1 day. In this case, Haspergrin cannot manifest a physical body until one is built for him by a cultist or dupe. Neverlight Aura (Su) All artificial light sources cast no illumination within 1 mile of Haspergrin. Character I’m most like

I used to be like Akaashi as a kid but then out of the blue I stopped being awkward, antisocial and unconfident and now I’m the “crazy friend”. I’m still Akaashi on the inside tho. Somehow it all works out but it’s probably the reason why I have like 7 different personalities.

How I got into Haikyuu

Took me a while because I usually don’t give things a chance randomly unless I have a reason to. I didn’t want to watch Haikyuu that much because I’m actually not that much into sport anime (I prefer fantasy and modern shounen) and I thought the character design and drawing styles looked kind of generic.

Like, when you look at this with eyes unused to the design they kind of look like aliens (the skewed eyes and head shape). That is to say, I love the design and now I don’t even see it but before I started watching it caught me off guard. What finally made me watch Haikyuu was that I saw a random pic of some Haikyuu thighs and I was like, yeah, why not.

How I got into volleyball

I watched Haikyuu. That simple. Only started playing last winter, but I’m super obsessed with training and I’m actually pretty decent, well-rounded player now. Never played truly competitive volleyball, I just go to drop in hours (sometimes I would play a game without counting points for like 6 hours straight without resting much). I play at my uni’s intramurals, this year on two different teams.

Which positions I play

I mostly play wing spiker on either side (by elimination process. To unskilled to set, too short to block, and we don’t play with liberos). But this year my Women’s team wants me to play their middle blocker and my CoEd team wants me to be libero. I am not particularly thrilled about either but I am looking forward to learning a bunch of new skills.

So far I did: gymnastics, aerobic, judo, athletics, disco dance, capoeira, krav maga, ballet and now volleyball, so that’s a pretty diverse combination. I was doing krav maga, ballet and volleyball all at the same time.

I used to have a hypermobile spine. Like make my head touch my butt from behind kind of flexible. I stopped training and it slowly receded but I am still very flexible.

I have a very high cold tolerance. I can wear dresses when the temperature is above 5 degrees Celsius. I once went to a volleyball match in my shorts and only realized afterwards that it was kinda cold outside because it started snowing.

I have monster stamina. It’s nice but it kind of sucks because it’s mega hard to lose weight because of the way my metabolism is programmed.

My family had 13 cats at one point. I love cats.

World of Final Fantasy Review! (Spoiler free)

I know the game is pretty old by now. It was released in October, 2016, before Final Fantasy XV wrecked the fandom. I've always wanted to give it a shot, but the apparent light-hearted approach didn't suit me well – so I waited for a decent discount in PSN, and I finally managed to get it in my hands! Disclaimer: this is a review of the vanilla version of the game. Saw there's a big expansion adding quite a a lot of stuff, including gameplay mechanics, so… either way, the game is quite enjoyable as it is, I don't deem an expansion necessary in my case to make me like the game more.

So yes, this is a GUD game. Even GUDER than I'd thought it would be. Like REALLY. Real good.

I'm not explaining myself. You see, this game seems made for younger generations. It was the result of the 30th Square Enix Anniversary, and it's the cocktail boiling in the cauldron every Final Fantasy fan wanted to have. It's a crossover, it's the perfect fanfiction across all the universes we've learned to love and care in this franchise. It's a love letter to fans, and I want to stress this idea, because… this game is great, is awesome, is moving, but only if you're an FF fan.

I mean, you'll still enjoy it for what it is, but… there are a thousand nods and references to the previous FF games that you won't get if you at least are not familiar with their premises. I, for instance, haven't played many of the mainline FF, including I, II, V and XI. I knew about their characters and some of its most characteristic thingies (like Gilgamesh being from FFV), so I still could get some of the references, but it's not the same.

It's not the same, because, like I said, this game is a love letter to fans. And it shows.

But – wait, are those chibis? Is this a children's game? What are you talking about? I know it's hard to take chibis seriously, but hear me out – this game is more serious than it seems at first sight. I expected nothing but RPG tropes and I did get many of those, but DUDE (pun intended) did I had a great (TRAGIC) time with those twists and turns!

So we follow Lann, a fifteen year old ginger boy who goes to work at his usual café. He doesn't seem to notice the Pokémon – I mean, the Mirage on his head, a cute white little fox that seems to defy the laws of gravity by gripping to his hair. In the café, Lann meets Enna Kros, a mysterious woman who asks for a very sugary coffee. Minutes later, we meet our other protagonist, Reynn, Lann's twin sister, who crashes into the place to tell her brother that there's nobody anywhere. Lann is like, hey, there's this woman over here, but truth be told… the neighborhood is empty.

So this woman, Enna Kros, introduces herself and tells them that she's a goddess of some sort (her nature is, eh, well, never fully explained and that's fine). She reveals they are in a place called Nine Wood Hills, a land that looks like it's stuck in time and space. Lann and Reynn had forgotten what the hell they're doing there, or who their parents were, or anything, so Enna Kros gives them (or more like, reminds them of) the Prismariums: the ability to imprism Mirages, like the little fox I mentioned, and bend them to their will. The purpose, she says, is to catch as many Mirages as they can, across Grymoire, the world she's the goddess of, and collect memories about their past. Then the little fox is introduced as Tama, a very important Mirage that is going to accompany the twins for the rest of the journey.

Off they go to Grymoire, and this is where the crossover starts: here people are tiny (chibis) called Lilikins; Reynn and Lann remain normally proportioned (Jiants), but they can turn into Lilikins whenever they want. Jiants had disappeared from this world a hundred years prior, so the twins kind of attract everyone's attention. This only feeds the mystery that shrouds this pair.

Grymoire is full of towns, regions and dungeons. Across all these places, the twins will irremediably come across the chibis we all know and love: the FF characters. Their storylines are so well intertwined that you forget that they belong to an original game, for their personalities and backgrounds fit this story very well. We have a Bahamutian Federation who's conquering everything in its stride, except for a few kingdoms that still fight against it. The League of S, the resistance group, wants to recruit as many people as they can, and it's up to the twins to help this insurgence grow. But this is not everything: it seems that in the Federation there's a prophecy, a Crimson Prophecy, that foretells the arrival of two Jiants twins who are Mirage Keepers…

The story gets more and more complex, until it reaches a point where I couldn't believe my eyes. And this was a game for "children"! But I won't spoil it for you. Instead, let's talk about the gameplay first!

I said Pokémon earlier – It's the closest approximation and I'm not lying. If you wanna be the very best, you gotta catch 'em all. Mirages will appear as your ordinary enemies in dungeons, and every first time you encounter one, Enna Kros will give you a new prismarium to imprism them in it. But to do this, you first have to create a prismunity: a chance that leaves the Mirage vulnerable to the imprism. This prisminuty is quite easy to achieve in the early levels, but they get more and more difficult and specific to attain as you progress. Each Mirage has an ability tree to develop, in which you'll spend SP points, and most Mirages have also evolutions (is it Pokémon enough yet??) that you'll be unlocking once the requirements are met.

Catching Mirages is not everything, though. Mirages are actually useful: you can equip them. Since we don't have equipment or ability tree for the twins, the Mirages are our only source of power, so their stats and their abilities become our own when we fight. Each twin in Jiant form can 'stack' on their heads a Medium and Small size Mirage, and in Lilikin form, they can stack on a Large Mirage and still have one Small Mirage on their heads. The stack becomes your shield in battle, and at first it looks ridiculous, but once you understand how it works, you can create MAGIC out of its mechanics. Careful because the tower you form can topple and your Mirages can fall from your character's head in a quite funny animation.

Twins don't have ability trees, I said. Well, that's partially true. You see, in the ability trees of the Mirages, every now and then you can come across a Mirajewel: this is the equivalent of a skill card in the Persona franchise – meaning that you can equip that Mirajewel into Lann or Reynn as you please. The Mirajewel doesn't lock to just one character, you can switch it between the twins as you like. The slots for these Mirajewels take a while to unlock, though, and it's related to the twins's levels.

Battles are your good old friend turn base combat. And it's great. IT'S GREAT. Like really. They can STILL do this and it's still loved, I don't know why people say that turn base combat is outdated and old fashioned. It's pretty slow paced, but fear not, because there's an ACCELERATOR button that lets you fast forward battles. Isn't it convenient? In fact, everything in this game is so convenient it makes me wanna cry: you wanna leave the dungeon? No prob, just use this unlimited teleport stone; wanna change your Mirages for others? Never fear, you have a save point every half hour. You wanna fast travel to this place? Nine Wood Hills got it covered for you. You're not enjoying this minigame? You can skip it and still advance in the main story! You kinda not dig this new menu we created for this game? Try the old style FF menu and play like you did in the old FF titles!

Really. Everything is there for you, at your disposal. The option to choose how and when you play is available, and it's kind of heart-warming they did this. I just wish every new FF could work like this one, on terms of gameplay! This game is SO Final Fantasy that I wanna cry a river.

Alright! Too much gameplay. What about characters?

Lann and Reynn are just hilarious. Their interactions are natural and casual: they truly make us believe they're twin brother and sister who deeply care for each other. Each of them has their own quirks, like Lann being quite slow, always saying "dude!" and protecting his sister at all costs; and Reynn being determined, direct and fearless, but also hiding her nervousness behind blurting trivia into the void whenever things seem to get nasty. There's one particular funny scene in the game where Reynn is angry with a Cactuar and she wants to, basically, punch it to death, which she can't, because Cactuars have their agility skyrocketed to high heaven more or less, and her hysteria is so relatable that you want to get yourself inside the screen and pat her on the head.

On that note, voice actors for the main protagonists were a delight. I was kind of surprised to discover that the guy who voices Lann also voices Shiro from Voltron: I couldn't recognize my favorite gay spaceship leader anywhere in this upbeat character, but there were moments where Lann became serious and angry, and damn, did that Shirogane emerge! All the other FF characters that we know have their original actors returning –not only that, but also we hear some characters from the older FF games that had never ever had, in any other media, voices. I swear my control almost fell to the floor when I heard Vivi f*cking SPEAK.

The FF characters remain in their personalities and they're never out of character. They bring about a thousand references from their original games, that are not forced at all. The script is clever enough to blend these moments inside the main story in such a way that you never see them coming, and more than once I was at the verge of tears, specially with Tidus and Yuna who belong to, I may very well say it now, my favorite Final Fantasy game (Oh I never wrote a review for FFX, even though I played like six times). I won't tell you, just play the game and discover these scenes for yourself. They make the game ten times more loveable. There are also instances of 4th wall breaking so beware yourself for a good laughter. Read the Mirage's Manual, I fully recommend it.

The game has all the RPG tropes you can ask for: the mandatory ice, fire and water levels, the really really bad guy you can tell he's bad because of his demoniac appearance bad villain bad oh bad he's bad because reasons, treasure chests, chocobos, cactuars, tomberris, flans, malboro menaces and anything you can expect from an FF game. But this isn't a copycat of previous installments. Towards the second half the game shows its true colors and we're faced with an original story, with huge twists that left me open mouthed, and you forget about the first few hours of the game that seemed taken straight out of any other FF, because, you know it, honk's got real. (Oh, btw, Lann used 'honk' every time he should've used the f-word, it was so funny, once he says 'shut the honk up' I'm cryinggG)

On the music department, I just couldn't really get into it. There were some boss fights that caught my attention but that's all there is to it. Nine Wood Hills background music gets under your skin after a while of continually listening to it, and sometimes it plays during important sequences, so I guess it's the most memorable piece of music. On the other hand, we have remixes of all those FF's themes we liked so much that play during certain characters' arcs and they may bring more than one tear to players' eyes (I did NOT cry when Suteki Da Ne started playing I did NOT). Visuals are nice and all – you can tell it had less production than, let's say, FFXV, its contemporary companion in release dates, but damn, some places were vivid and realistic! And lighting and shadows were real enough! And who cares about an anime appearance or chibi characters when everything SHINES and the story is good either way!

This game made me for some reason ship Cloud with absolutely everyone? What the honk?

All in all, this is a Final Fantasy game in all its glory, and it shines bright in many aspects I believe it was done even better than most of the newest games in the mainline. I just wished it had a more 'independent' story, in the sense of what I first mentioned: that this is a game for fans, that the experience would be very different if you haven't played the majority of the FF titles (and even some spin offs!). Still, the main story holds up well and at the end of the day, the main characters are the twins, not Cloud or Squall.

I do have one or two tiny complaints: there are some FF titles vanished to oblivion in this vanilla version. Firion from FFII only appears in the expansion and Balthier from FFXII, although he is a free dlc, he's not part of the story and he doesn't even have a page in the people's compendium, his appearance being the only silent presence of that title in the game. Also there's something spoilerish I wasn't really fond of – I'm just gonna say, without revealing anything, that I don't like how certain character was handled. And no, I'm not speaking about the masked woman. Anyway, that's all I can complain about, actually.

I think credit must be given where credit is due. And this game is due a lot of credit. For its amazing gameplay, giving us a taste of what we've been asking for years, and for the good use of the Extrauniverse to weave this story for us. Interactions between characters are a delight because of how well written they are. And there's a lot of post game content so, here I go, the route to platinum!

If you enjoy FF, then you'll love this game.

HA this one worked like a charm. ummm probably episode 7 bc that made me feel Things and i loved rewatching it as compared to the others. altho if we bring in every other movie in-between, it's obviously rogue one. BUT i DO have a special place in my heart for episode 1! i've been a star wars fan since i was a kid thanks to my dad but i was obsessed with episode 1, it really pushed all the right buttons for me. like i wouldn't call it a solid movie next to episode 7 but man is it a classic!

i think i will love every season when they do come out but book-wise, i think you can't beat the level of wonder of northern lights/golden compass, depending on which edition your bookstores sold. my REAL absolute favorite tho has got to be once upon a time in the north bc the leads are basc my two favorite characters lmao

OH MAN mia fey and godot! i'm such a trash for tragic relationships and i think they looked very handsome together!

movie bc it's easier than the comics lmao. but probably dr strange? icn say it's civil war bc it has spider-man, black panther and ant-man which for me are the only things really worth seeing in there but dr strange doesn't really even have that much of a hook for me to begin with. i wouldn't have gone and seen it if not bc of my team who wanted to see it for our team building excursion lol

i think i will forever be devoted to the classic polygon game, the one that started it all, y'know? but i'm really excited for the remake and i really enjoyed ff7ac/c! i also have not played the other games in the compilation bc money and time lmao (says the woman who just spent 12 hours on the game yesterday like some high schooler >.>;;; i just got aerith's great gospel and i already miss her ;_;)

we got a ds lite!! and then everyone kept raving about the phoenix wright game so my sister got it for us and then one day, i just decided to watch and help her play the third case and now, it's part of how we bond. we've always solved cases together ever since, they're much easier and less creepier that way

oh wow, another lucky hit! ummm ewan mcgregor? i was a huge fan of his obi-wan kenobi like, icn remember calling other characters my favorite after his obi-wan anymore. so i'm really excited he's going to reprise the role, finally!!

oh god, probably 2?? bc between the three of them, ff7 has had the biggest influence in my life. like seriously, the reason i'm in my job rn is bc of it—i went to college to take up computer science bc i wanted to make games like ff7 lmao but that didn't work out bc calculus is the worst. STILL it pushed me to the right direction of being in stem!

14. Which have you seen more episodes new releases of, 1 or 3?

i'm gonna have to say 1 for the obvious reason that they've released more movies than 3 has released games bc they're the products of an entertainment tycoon, you know? while with 3, there's still a part of it that still feels like a passion project and i haven't seen the anime yet lmao.

i'd be a rebel. when i was a kid, i wanted to be a jedi, tho, lol

ACE ATTORNEY IN SPACE. SPACE ATTORNEY AHAHAHAHAHA. i mean WHY NOT, you've got coruscant, you've got imperial sympathizers sowing discontent to lead to the first order (i think), you've got other separatists while we're at it, smuggling, bounty hunting, the fall of the jedi order. especially after rotj, i can imagine how active the courtrooms were with the war criminals and the petty ones taking advantage of the shift of government. the feys are obviously of the force, the von karmas could be a family linked to sympathizers, maybe nick is even attuned to the force which is why mia singled him out! it's easy to work out the whole thing ❤️

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely ok couple.

but marvel is already doing that job for me lmao. ummmm jane and roz solomon? but it's not unlikely bc they ARE friends and roz was the first person jane confided to about being thor. really icn think of anything off the top of my head, i'm not a shippy kind of person unless the canon lays it out before me and i get convinced. which, in itself, is rare.

18. Overall which show franchise has a better storyline, 1 or 3?

3, hands down. i'd much rather miss more movies of 1 than new releases of 3. it's in the quality of the storytelling, y'know? which isn't to say i loved all games lol i mean honestly, if you ask me? i'd tell you apollo justice is a huge au.

19. Which has better theme music, 2 or 4?

OH THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION. you're asking me who did it better, john williams or nobuo uematsu??? damn, they're both solid composers with amazingly timeless pieces but from my biased point of view, you can't beat nobuo uematsu. his work on final fantasy as compared to williams' work on star wars is more varied and he freaking makes MIDI sound like an orchestra!! and, he was the fucking soundtrack of my childhood. i was SO lucky to have been raised in a generation where he still did the music to all final fantasy games.

Siren — it’s time for vacation! or, filming disguised as vacation. the members of siren are bundled up and shipped off to jeju, every moment of their journey being caught on camera. it’s supposed to be a bonding experience neatly packaged for consumption by their loyal fans; the perfect fanservice under the name “Siren’s Call.”

MYSTERY — d-day is approaching. this week marks the beginning of teasers being released to the public. fans are in a frenzy, ooh-ing and ahh-ing over new hair colors and trying to figure out what concept MYSTERY is going for this time, noticing the definite links back to I NEED U. meanwhile, the members are spending day and night perfecting their choreo and lines.

MELODY — promotions are coming to an end for MELODY this week. they’re winding down and doing their goodbye stages. it’s been a successful debut so far, even though some of their newly gained fans are complaining already that MELODY isn’t being given proper attention, dbg too quickly distracted by MYSTERY’s comeback.

trainee group, neXus — the boys are being through the wringer again this week. they’re painfully not in sync during their dance covers and their choreographer is determined to whip them into shape. they’ve got long hours of practice ahead, where they need to build harmony amongst themselves in hopes of getting closer to a “perfect” image.

JACKRABBIT ARTISTS

STRINGS — ogenkidesuka? have you been brushing up on your japanese like we told you to? the boys have been working hard the last few weeks, tweaking their debut japanese album to as close to perfection as they can manage. this week, teasers will begin to drop for their album set to debut the second week of november, and the boys will begin early soundchecks for their debut showcase that will happen later this month.

libra — promotions for “what” have officially come to an end the first week of november, and the company is extremely pleased with libra’s progress. however, the company doesn’t want to let this momentum stop following the end of their promotions, so the girls will be heading to different cities across the country for some post-promotion fansigns and meet and greets.

KILLJOY ARTISTS

LURE — SOLO 2 will be filming the music video for “fantasy” this week and preparing for stages beginning november 12th, right after V!BE concludes promotions for “PEEKABOO”; the rest of the girls will be able to attend the music video shoot as well as begin filming for an upcoming project to put LURE back on the map.

Corpse Party — this week Corpse Party will be shooting comeback teaser pictures; get ready for a whirlwind of hair, makeup, clothing, and being directed on every detail for 12+ hours! although the comeback isn’t until december, kjc is growing impatient with the lackluster response the public gives Corpse Party and wants to try and get it right (for once). if this comeback doesn’t go well, though, Corpse Party might have to start looking elsewhere for opportunities or go back to promoting themselves.

V!BE — besides promoting non-stop on all music shows (seeing as this is their last week of promotions), the girls will also be busy preparing for their world tour that starts next week! get ready to do run-throughs of all title song choreography, a fitting for stage costumes, and prepare special solo stages (members are allowed to choose from senior artist solo songs; message each other so no song is repeated).

trainee group: BLISS — in preparation for “SEEKING SERENITY”, BLISS members are given their first mission: solo performances. because everything that the girls do will be broadcasted, absolutely everything needs to be perfect. they are asked to do something that shows their star qualities (whatever that means) and present it to some company officials for approval. although the show had been delayed for some time, the company promises that filming will begin soon.

trainee group: 5YNC — this week potential members of kjc’s new boy group 5YNC will be going out to the community multiple times throughout the week to do community service; they will be picking up trash in various communities. the boys, as per regulation, are reminded to not consume any food products found (as it was an issue in the past).

MOBIUS ARTISTS

ORION — it’d be wise to take some more care in bringing in the attention for orion these days, right? maybe it’s time for a scandal or two, those always boost sales, don’t they?

NEO — NEO:RED? never change, sweeties, you’re doing great. with promotions for district 9 in full swing, the feedback is hot and the comeback has been well-received. the boys should know the drill by now, it’s promotions as usual! they’ve taken a mighty blow to the ego with the lack of a fresh-off-the-presses win on music shows this week, but it’s only motivation to work harder and kick things into gear when it comes to building up that popularity. every minute counts in the industry! don’t fall to the wayside! neo:black are still preparing for their comeback this month and should be working hard to make sure they’re ready - vocally and mentally. neo:blue are due a fansign to match with their shiny new brand deal! it’s always a treat to come face-to-face with your fans, right, boys? even if they are a little on the intense side…

SOLAR — not to be dramatic or anything, but gleam? batter up! practices for “girl like me” have been worryingly rough this close to a comeback but it’s not yet a lost cause! don’t let the pressure of a successful debut keep them from having an equally fulfilling comeback! there’s still a few weeks left before there’s any real reason to fret, but the girls should keep a close eye on their progress in the days to come.

SiLVER — besides busy comeback preparations such as fittings for their stage outfits and shooting the final photos for the mini album’s jackets, SiLVER are asked (read as: told) to do a vlive as a full group to drum up hype for their latest release, without, of course, giving too much away.

magic(g)al — the girls are riding high on the upward momentum given to them by “playing with fire”, and besides recording for music shows, they have a fanmeet scheduled where they can give back to their fans for granting them their recent success.

STATIC — STATIC have been given exciting news this week — they’re going to hold their first solo concert at the end of the year. though nothing is set in stone yet, the current plan is that it will happen right after their december comeback, which the members are required to start submitting work for as soon as possible. as the options the boys have come up with are rifled through, along with a few choices from outsourced songwriters, STATIC are also being shuttled off to film an episode of after school club.

trainee group: STRAWBERRiE — it’s only a couple of days until the release of “i’m gonna be a star”, and the last minute rush to get everything ready includes filming a performance video! this week, the girls are also moving into their very own STRAWBERRiE dorms, with only two bedrooms between the five of them, so they better get used to living in close quarters for the foreseeable future.

Allen’s Rambling: My First (Person) Experience (Mary Skelter: Nightmares)

Sorry this took so long folks, Blazblue Cross Tag Battle has been taking over my life recently and I also got back into the grind-fest that is Disgaea 5 again, not to mention a personal project of mine for this month has been happening, so needless to say I’ve been both busy and distracted lately. But moving on, I’m finally making another opinion piece, this time on Mary Skelter Nightmares, a first-person dungeon crawler that I was a bit hesitant to buy at first due to my distaste for the genre. However, the character designs of the cute girls, hearing a bit of the OST, and knowing that voice actresses like Cristina Vee and Kira Buckland were taking the lead roles got me interested. So I caved and bought the game, praying that I’d get my money’s worth. After about 30 hours of play time I think I can safely say that this game was worth the purchase but allow me to go on in more detail about this.

But first, that plot synopsis:

The game is set in the underground prison known as "the Jail". Monstrous creatures called Marchen act as the wardens of the Jail, capturing humans and bringing them inside to perform various tortures.

The story's protagonist is Jack, a boy who is imprisoned in the Jail with his childhood friend Alice. The two cling to each other for stability in this hell, trying to survive for that one opportunity to escape. Until finally, a mysterious girl appears wielding an absurdly large pair of scissors. Destroying the cells that hold the prisoners, she introduces herself as Red Riding Hood. And so begins Jack's journey.…

That’s the basic premise copied straight from the wiki, but the story expands from there, going into more about the world-building and culture of the Jail. But anyway, as I tend to do in these Ramblings, let me address the elephant in the room… the gameplay one specifically…

First-Person Dungeon Crawler

I’ll be upfront about this, I don’t like first-person dungeon crawlers, I never have. I find them restrictive, I find them as a lazy way to save on doing character models, and I find the overall design to be either insultingly simple, or annoyingly complicated. However, after playing this game for about 30 hours I’m slowly warming up to this style of game. Let me just go over some of the good points of this game.

Immersion

This kind of perspective makes the game very immersive. Actually walking through these dungeons, actually running away from the Nightmares, actually pushing all the buttons and pulling all the switches. This kind of stuff is where the first person view shines, especially with some of the sound design. You can hear traps springing in the distance, the utterly bone-chilling growls and laughs of the Nightmares as they close in, the fact that you can hear each footstep you take, the atmosphere is done very well in my opinion, and I highly recommend playing with headphones for maximum immersion.

The Monster Designs

Another aspect of first-person dungeon crawlers that can be compelling are the monster designs. If I can’t look at cute girls then you better have some interesting monsters to look at. And thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on your view) Mary Skelter delivers on that. Some of these monsters look down right disturbing. I have to praise the designers for these creatures because damn do they look disturbing. Especially the Nightmares.

And these guys only get freakier as you take apart their armor.

However… those design tend to wear out their welcome when you see recolored versions on the first damn chapter.

This is honestly something I just can’t let go of. When I was seeing reskins of the enemies on the second floor of the first level I had to put down the game for a moment. I decided to just shrug it off and continued playing regardless, and then proceeded to lose my mind screaming on the second chapter when I was seeing reskins of the enemies of the first dungeon in the new Graveyard area. To be fair to the game, these reskins are likely to keep every zone with the same theme of enemy types, but this really made me shake my head when I saw them. I just… can’t let go of this.

The Puzzles

Now this is where I think the first-person really shined. When you lose your ability to reliably see from a top-down perspective or in third person it can do wonders for puzzles. I think all the puzzles I’ve played so far were done well. I loved the puzzle in the Temple where you had to shoot a flaming arrow through flammable walls to proceed, pushing blocks through the path of your arrow that would change its trajectory. Some of the switch puzzles were interesting as well to turn off certain traps, if a bit tedious. I’m only on chapter 6 as of writing this, so I’m hoping to see so more interesting puzzles.

And since I’m talking about the puzzles, I’ll move onto…

The Actual Gameplay

So, the game is turn-based, much like Final Fantasy and Persona. There’s not much more to say there. The main issue I have with the game is the difficulty. Some enemies can two-shot you in the first and second chapter, and while Mary Skelter thankfully has something of a quick save option, getting use to that difficulty and high damage isn’t exactly a fun time when you’re constantly dying from a surprise attack or just when you’re on enemy phase. This isn’t like Epic Battle Fantasy 4 or Persona 5 where it’s a matter of having proper buffs and equipment, these enemies can just annihilate you for existing. I’d say this game was almost as annoying as Fate/Extra in that regard if not for the ability to lower difficulties mid-game. This game has it out for you. There’s not a lot of room for trial and error here unless the trial and error comes from you constantly dying and losing party members mid-battle. This and a few other issues I had with this game’s difficulty made me go straight to easy mode after Chapter 2. Doing this lowers the amount of EXP I get which makes grinding a pain, but honestly… I know I’m not the only one that did this, so it might be worth the price.

But moving on from that, something I found interesting was the class system. Every character has about 6 different classes they can go into. Certain characters have a specific class type such as Physical DPS, Magical DPS, Ranged Attackers, Support, and All-Rounders, but those types have different classes. Physical DPS classes can become tanks or berserkers, Magical DPS classes can focus on element damage or healing. Support units can become Mimics/Blue Mages or Item Classes, the All-Rounders can slightly specialize themselves for different tasks, the list goes on. And each class changes comes with a cute new outfit for the character as well. I was honestly tempted to keep Alice in her Marshal class solely for how cute she looked until I got Cinderella what came equip with the Marshal class, but then I realized the Marshal class grants reliable first-turn advantage and just kept her there, with Cinderella being use to experience with the classes of that type.

If there’s one major piece of advice I can give for this game it’s to focus on getting AoE skills that attack/debuff every enemy at once or buff/heal every party member, and leveling those skills up. You constantly get attack in mobs, and bosses have several parts to target until their second phase. Just save yourself the trouble and get AoE skills to make those random encounters a bit less of a pain. Seriously, even on easy mode this enemies pack a punch and can three-shot you. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue, but remember that I said these guys attack in mobs that range from 4 to 6 enemies.

But moving on, another interesting aspect of this game is Massacre Mode and Blood Skelter. Much like in Senran Kagura Deep Crimson’s Frantic Mode, by bathing yourself in the blood of your enemies you gain power. When enough blood is on you it triggers Massacre Mode, a powered-up mode that transforms your Blood Maiden. They have higher stats and access to game-breaking Massacre Skills that do heavy damage for minimal SP. However, this is a double edged sword. If you take heavy damage that blood will become corrupted, and you have a chance of going into Blood Skelter Mode the more corrupted that blood gets. This mode jacks up your character’s stats through the roof, but they also make you unable to command them and they attack both enemies and allies. You can purify the corrupt blood and even get them out of Blood Skelter mid-battle thanks to Jack, but this is why I recommend Easy Mode. When the enemies can one or two-shot you and corrupt that blood often, and this game gets frustrating.

Ah, speaking of Jack, he has a place in the party too. While the girls are all fighting Jack is in the back managing the girls’ corruption and healing them with items, as he’s the only one that can use items outside of a specific item class. He can also get girls out of Blood Skelter too, but doing these things usually cost him blood, and if he loses consciousness if he loses too much. He’s able to do other things like take a single hit for one of the Blood Maidens, or heal their SP as well, but as of the point I’m at in the game that’s really it for Jack as a function.

Another issue I have with this game is how tedious it is to get better weapons and armor. You either do this by random drops, or more likely through the wandering merchant you’ll see through the dungeons. He shows up randomly (of course), but his prices are… well, what you’d expect from a random shop in a dungeon, expensive. Again, this game is frustrating, and I don’t know if it should be. Some other tedious parts of the game can honestly be traveling through the gargantuan dungeons. There may be a map, but that means jack when it takes forever to get to the next floor, and even then you might have to search through all of a floor just to find a key item.

On a lighter note, the side quests in this game, much like in Fairy Fencer are honest to god side quest that are optional. And you can take on as many as you want. The rewards are nice, but nothing feels mandatory, which is how I like it.

Another nice touch I like are the Nightmares. These bastards can randomly show up at certain points in a Dungeon. They’re basically like the Reaper in the Persona series, but when they show up you lose map visibility (on normal mode or higher anyway), the ability to even pause the game, and they can only be stunned in combat so you can run away, at least until you get to the end of the dungeon and destroy that dungeon’s core.

Again, these guys look terrifying, and for damn good reason. You want to run away from these things, and beating them at the end of each chapter is very satisfying from both a story and gameplay perspective, as these are the only challenges when playing on easy mode.

So… now that I’ve given my opinion on the gameplay, let’s talk about…

Idea Factory/Compile Heart Games

So what I said about the gameplay might sound a little familiar to you guys if you’ve read my last Rambling talking about Idea Factory and Compile Heart. Just to recap on my opinion:

“…Both these companies tend to make the focus on grinding a bit too much for my liking. Well, a better way of putting it is that Compile Heart/Idea Factory games really depend on your numbers being bigger than your enemies. A lot of JRPGs do this, but even in Disgaea, the game that parodies this concept, can still be won with proper strategy if done right. Compile Heart/Idea Factory games… they don’t really give you that chance, you just need higher levels or you’re screw or need to play on easy mode, something I have little shame in doing at times… The long and short of it is that a lot of Compile Heart/Idea Factory games don’t know how to properly scale enemies and characters with their leveling systems.”

You might realize that quote fits for Mary Skelter as well given what I’ve said about the gameplay. As I’ve said before, these kinds of games are only really fun if you can break them or have the option of breaking them. I say this because trying to play a game likes this seriously only to be rewarded with enemies that one-shot you doesn’t feel fun, and winning doesn’t feel rewarding, it feels like a lucky break before you have to go through the nightmare again. Now, that might just be the point of Mary Skelter specifically, as the atmosphere and story are very oppressive, but I honestly don’t feel that the gameplay compliments the story in this regard. But anyway, breaking these kinds of games feels rewarding, a sort of “Hah! I don’t have to trudge through this difficult game anymore because I found a loophole!” way. The ability to breeze through the later half of a game after suffering through the difficult early game is something of a right of passage.

Just to say this now, You can break Mary Skelter to an extent, but not in the way you’re thinking. You see, much like in Trillion, Mary Skelter has its character come with an affection level. You raise this by giving each girl gifts that suit their taste. The better/more tailored the gift, the more their affection goes up. When you increase it enough you’ll trigger events that’ll advance their social and grant them a new Massacre Skill. Like I said before, these skills can one-shot enemies on mass if you have the right one, so it’s only a matter of finding the right gift to spam and waiting for the events to happen. The only issue with this is that some events are tied to story progression, so even if you’ve maxed out affection by chapter 2, the girls won’t go through their events until the beginning of chapter 5, which can be annoying at times.

Continuing with the Trillion comparisons, let’s talk about Jack for a bit. He’s no Takt (thank God), but he’s a far cry from Zeabolos. Jack was made to be something of a self-insert character, he’s light on personality, and the only thing separating him from the player is his obliviousness to the girls’ feelings about him (something that I’m sure you’re rolling your eyes at as I am), but he’s got a good heart, wants to protect the Blood Maidens, and wants to be useful. He’s someone I can root, but he does lack the maturity and charisma of Zeabolos, making his moments with the Blood Maidens feel less impactful and more… pandering, especially when those harem elements come up, but more on that late.

There’s also more voice acting than in Trillion. Something I always wanted in Trillion was for the events that followed CG images to at least be voice, and Mary Skelter delivered on that point. However… the game’s writing has one too many harem elements in it for me to say I appreciate it. Don’t get my wrong, I love the fact that Alice is voiced by Cristina Vee. In fact, the whole cast is notable for those familiar with English voice acting. Cristina Vee, Kira Buckland, Sarah Williams, Casandra Lee, Christine Marie Cabanos, this is quite the cast. However, when I have to deal with Jack “accidentally” seeing characters in a state of undress I’m rolling my eyes.

But while we’re on story, let’s talk about that for a bit. I’d say this game is very similar to Tales of Berseria in a way, where there’s a pretty good mix of character development and world building. You slowly learn more and more about The Jail and The Tower, learn about each character and their motives, about society within The Jail and The Dawn, the resistance group that rescues Jack and Alice. These are all good things. In fact, the limited edition version of the game came with a novel about the world of this game. I’m going to read it once I finish the game as it has spoiler content in it, but something I’ve always appreciated about Idea Factory/Compile Heart games is how much they love the worlds they create and how much they want to explore them. From this game, to Trillion, to Omega Quintet, each game has a well thought-out world and characters that really explore. The only exception to this being Fairy Fencer, but I hear the updated re-release has some more content in that regard.

And just mention it, I love a lot of these characters. Alice, Red Riding Hood, and Gretel are my favorites so far. I like them a bunch. I wish I could go into detail about them, but it’d lead to some heavy spoilers I’d rather not give.

Something I will admit about the story is that I don’t think the writing is as strong as in Trillion. The character events play more to a harem anime than the more down-to-earth and almost melancholic tones in Trillion. That might just be because this game is more light-hearted by comparison and less character-focused since all of the cast is alive throughout the game, but that’s just my opinion.

I’ll also add that the music is fantastic. I didn’t know you could shred on a violin until I heard some of these tunes. And I’ll also give props to the open, as I think it’s a bit better than Trillion’s.

So... I think I got everything out the way that I wanted to talk about, so I’ll move onto...

The Conclusion

Overall, while I think Mary Skelter has its issues, it has a lot of good points too. The girls are nicely designed and decently written, the voice acting is solid and more plentiful, the story holds up so far, and for as apathetic I am to the gameplay it isn’t boring... at least during the boss fights. The only real issues I have are the size of dungeons, the difficulty in gaining resources like weapons and armor, and the enemy damage scaling. I think I’m going to try and get through the rest of this game on normal difficulty and see if my opinion changes… if I can avoid getting two-shot-ed anyway…

Today is Zhenya Day

I’d like to spend some time talking about this special girl, who was a special shade of spectacular today.

We all know she had been out of competition with a serious injury since November and the European Championships were her comeback event. She made a mistake in the Short Program the other day, went into the free in second place, had to take to the ice after her teammate Alina Zagitova went clean and was awarded a stratospherically high score. She opened her program with a slight hiccup which prevented her from completing a jump combination as intended. Everything was going against her, and then she just blew it all out of the water with the rest of her program, was what she did.

I am not saying that Janny is perfect, and yes I know many of you will want to go screaming in my face about her Lutz, but I hope that after screaming to your heart’s content, you would spend just a minute looking at the remaining of her jumps. Look at how she has reduced the pre-rotation on her flip, look at the amazing height she got on her Salchow, look at her gorgeous loop, and look at how, in just two days, she has managed to overcome the trauma of the Axel.

It’s not just her jumps, this season she has shown so much growth in every other aspect. She is moving faster and broadening her ice coverage (which was already impressive before). She’s skating on deeper edges, smoother glides. Janny has always shown great control during her Step Sequences, but now she is extending that precision into her transitional content as well. She’s also been fixing her posture, making her lines more elegant, her movements more fluid and natural. Besides a boost to her skating skills, these improvements have made her programs this season, especially the free skate, so much more enjoyable to watch. I feel like she’s becoming confident enough in her footwork that it allows her to free her mind and feel the music, let it move her through the performance. It’s always lovely to see when a skater reaches that point on their learning curve.

And, oh my gosh, her I-spin was stunning today.

Now, some asks:

is it just me or has zhenya gotten more flexible? her positions look nicer and stuff

Janny looks like she lost weight, and her jumps are shakier than usual and spins traveling a bit in the sp at Euro. I'm so worried about her :(. But she looks more emotional, has softer lines and happy to be back in competitions. I don't know much about ss so I want to ask for your opinion about it, does she get worse ss? as usual? better?

I used to not really like Zhenya but I recently started looking up her practice videos and fan cam videos and just looking in to her performances more and I’m starting to become a big fan! Her jumps can be muscled but I think people forget how amazing it is that she can do 3-3-3 and +3lo, +1/2 lo 3sal, +3t combos. And she can do it on every jump! Her spins are amazing as well😍 her skating seems very graceful but my big question is, how are her skating skills compared to others? Idk much abt SS

Soooo, I just wanted to come to the holy confessional box of skating, and express my frustration that Alina got essentially the same PCS as Evgenia. Yes she dominated TES, but it’s so off putting that PCS rises alongside, when shes skating a junior program. Not hating Alina, I know it’s the feds and judges doing, just sitting over here feeling disillusioned about the Olympics coming up. This season has been full of wack scoring for lots of people.

Alina essentially got the same PCS as Carolina too. Today was not Caro’s best day, but you know, just saying: Alina’s SS = 9.32, Caro’s SS = 9.43. “Full of wack scoring” - there’s really no better way to describe it.

Wtf even was that scoring I’m so mad 🤬

It’s European-style scoring. They have to keep up with the level of nonsense set by the neighbors across the pond in their Nationals, you know. It’s an arms race. This is the year 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis just happened, and we are on the brink of mutually assured destruction. I repeat, we are only imagining that we live in 2018. It’s a fantasy. Wake up, sheeple.

I’m sorry, I’m a bit too tired right now and when I don’t have a proper answer I default to cracking distasteful jokes.

Alice, how do I get over figure skating? Zagitova just won over Medvedeva by 6 points. I don't even like Medvedeva. Zagitova got 75+ PCS for a performance in which she missed music cues, made no changes in expression whatsoever, and executed choppy movements which also signified lack of flow. She just won OGM, right? How do I get over this joke of a sport?

No Alina didn’t just win OGM. I want to believe it so, please let me believe it, if only because I want to be able to continue watching figure skating, and to maintain some trust in humanity. Please please tell me if there is anything I can do so that you wouldn’t give up on skating either. I don’t want us all to throw in the towel, not yet. There is beauty in this sport and it would be a damn shame if we let the irresponsibility of some judges rob us of the chance to appreciate it.

you’ve been an exo-l since exo-m was around???? thats so cool!! i got into them in 2017 so i missed most of the peak exo eras which is kinda sad but i went back and listened to their older albums and watched variety shows (exo showtime was so much fun to watch especially the karaoke episode!!!) and really grew to like exo-m to the point where yixing actually became my biaswrecker for a while, even when he wasn’t promoting w/the exos. also luhan’s voice is absolutely angelic and somehow the exo-m versions of the songs always hit harder for me especially their ballads (no shade to exo-k i love them they’re absolutely amazing as well!!! luchen just have such beautiful and soothing ballad voices that i keep going back to😩)

ahhhh yes, junmyeon in overdose is gorgeous af, the glorious blondemyeon era will never be forgotten😔 i really loved him in the bridge w/baeksoo towards the end, gosh that was just so. Good.

i’ve been tunnel visioning junmyeon since tempo era and when self portrait came out i was just so in LOVE like sp is such a real and raw take on his personality and artistic side and it’s just such a heartwarming album. i really enjoyed the promotions (his h4u!!!!so precious!!!!) especially bc of that interview where he said he thinks he’s not a special person just that he has a special job and like…how can you not love someone so sincere and humble like that sometimes i can’t believe he’s real UgHhHhH i could go on about junmyeon forever he’s such an amazing person

Recognize || Black Panther

It feels like there are very few times in popular culture where Black Americans get to actively participate in positive discussions about themselves. With the release of Black Panther, we get to have a moment to exhale and relieve all the built up tension surrounding civil rights and equality. Black Americans get to stand tall with next to a culture that has been erased from our identity, replaced by our own version built out of slavery and poverty, ingenuity and resistance, but reminded every day as Black Americans, we are Black first, and Americans second. And while America will always be our home, Wakanda offers a positive representation of everything we could be, can be, and will be. As its most enticing feature, Black Panther delivers a story that any person can relate to, regardless of their skin color, affluence, or place in the universe.

I was in a unique position during my viewing of Black Panther, I went to see the movie with my father. My father is White. That kind of 5th generation American White that is completely devoid of any external culture, ignoring his Irish and Scottish heritage all his life. It would have been even more unique with the addition of my mother, who is Black, but she unfortunately had the flu, so now we all have to settle. I wanted to have a conversation with the both of them about the film, the hype, their lives, my life. Frankly, this is probably the only time in my adult life I have actually WANTED to have a conversation with them together on any topic surrounding race. Though they have been married 37 years, they are very much oil and water on many subjects. But hey, that’s how you make great pasta, right? Maybe. But first, let’s get into the movie. How was Black Panther? In short, not as unique as all of its parts. And to discuss the film in its complete capacity, the following is rife with spoilers. Reader beware.

*****SPOILERS BELOW******

Taking a step back, having to looking at it from space because up close it shines too brightly, there is nothing new about the story in focus, just the lense from which it is viewed and the stage on which it sits. I am not sure what I expected, but the story falls on one of the only tales of Kings, successors, and subjects. The story has a classic Shakespearean tapestry, woven with betrayals, truces, romance, and family. Despite the death of their King T’Chakka (John Kani) (which happened in Civil War), most of Wakanda is excited to see his son take over the kingdom. Shortly after taking the throne, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), has the opportunity to avenge the deaths of his best friend’s parents by capturing Klaue (Andy Serkis), a career criminal who has escaped justice for 30 years and was able to infiltrate and escape Wakanda with their major natural resource, Vibranium, a fictional metal that aided in their technological advancement. Failing to capture him causes his best friend, W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya), to feel betrayed, having been let down by T’Challa’s father as well. Meanwhile, T’Challa learns from his father’s close friend Zuri (Forest Whitaker) that his father was forced to kill his own brother in order to save his life. Afterwards, T’Chakka knowingly left his brother’s child Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) behind to survive alone in 1992 Oakland. The abandon Killmonger returns to Wakanda just after T’Challa’s ascension with Klaue in tow, turning him in to garner the goodwill of the royal guard, notably W’Kabi. After revealing his bloodline, Killmonger challenges T’Challa for the throne. These are all the major turning points of the film, and none of them are at all surprising. This is my sole issue with the film, and even still, it excelled at re-telling this age old story.

People have heralded the story for enticing you to feel compassion for its main antagonist, Killmonger, like no other marvel story before it, but that is exactly what this story is designed to do. Evil is perspective. Everything is perspective. Killmonger may be brash, but his single minded charge to the finish line is paved by good intent. What’s more, he is easily the most identifiable character in the film. Life is much more akin to Killmonger’s than to T’Challa’s. We rarely are thrust into positions of leadership without volunteering, but we are often left behind by people around us. Everyone has a personal story that can put you in Killmonger’s shoes. I feel my own Blackness is wrapped up in a similar story. Growing up, my mother’s side of the family, all Black Americans from Dallas, would tease me for the way I spoke, how different I was, and would always tell me it was because of my White half. My mother for most of my life has often commented on how un-Black I am. I pointed to the fact that I grew up in the suburbs of Austin in a predominantly white and hispanic neighborhood probably had something to do with it. She tried to surround me with Black peers, but they were avid fans of sports, music videos, and church whereas I found entertainment in video games, science-fiction novels, and movies. Blackness was limiting. This was a great divide between me and my Black peers, or it seemed like it to a little kid. Black nerds were a rarity, so rare at the time, I wouldn’t meet any until high school. Still, two Black nerds couldn’t make up for all the Blackness I was “missing”. Essentially, I grew up feeling like an outcast. My White friends would call me their token Black friend, my Black friends would call me a nerd or too white or “High-Yellow”, a term for light skinned Black folks. But that didn’t change the fact that I indeed walked around everywhere in the same skin, with the same problems, and probably a few others, as I also have been confused for Filipino, Egyptian, Mexican, and my favorite “Gay Cuban” (long story). Killmonger’s story resonates so well because at some point we have all felt alone, rejected, or forgotten. The film makes a point of showing that Black people carry sins of their own, perpetrated against their own, regardless of the best of intentions. But Black Panther also points to the fact that we can redeem ourselves, forgive ourselves, and break free of oppression inside and outside our community. When we all stand tall together, regardless of our backgrounds, our skin tone or color, we are stronger for it, a moral as old this story.

By the time the credits and post-credit scenes had run, I was excited to see how my father felt about the film. To characterize him a little bit, he is an avid reader of fantasy novels like Conan The Barbarian and Lord of the Rings. He is quiet, non-threatening, bad at reading social cues, stubborn, and a little self-absorbed. He was the kind of parent whose name you could say 10 times, and never notice. He tends to take everything personally, so while I was excited to hear his opinion, I wasn’t at all surprised with the result. His personal take was, “Eh, I liked it.”

“And…?” I replied.

To which he launched into a thought about how he is “tired of being blamed” for everything bad that White people have done to Black people. My father is not terribly deep or analytical, but he could tell that the film had broached this topic somewhere underneath the surface, if not addressed in the media in weeks leading up the release. In his eyes, he married a Black woman, raised a Black son, attends a predominantly Black church wherein he has many Black friends, how could anyone see him as racist simply for being White? Again, he takes everything personally, it’s just the type of person he is. I told him that this isn’t about any one person. This is about recognizing the disparity. You don’t get to choose your privilege, so no one is blaming you personally. It’s about working towards change without expecting a reward. No Black hands are going to be patting you on the back. I told him that maybe he personally had done enough, who can really say, but the last thing you need to do is change your perspective and recognize this isn’t about you or what you have done. There is much more that needs to be done, we have much further to go. Black Panther is a step in the right direction.

Wakanda undoubtedly leaves an impression on everyone who sees it, but more impressive than its city is the plains, mountainsides, and other tribal homes. It has a very zen like feel to it, one that is completely enshrined in nature, yet there is utility in its beauty. Every aspect of the costume design feels modern, even when making homages to long time African garb. The hairstyles, more specifically the lack thereof, shine more than any film in recent memory. Okoye (Danai Gurira) is not only the complete fashion stand out of this film, but by far the strongest actor and character in the cast. By the end of the film, you want every other Black Panther film to star her alongside Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), the resident Wakanda spy and strong wing-girl to Okoye, as they take the mantle of the Black Panther. It’s also impossible to ignore Shuri (Letitia Wright) as the brilliant resident scientest. This isn’t to say Chadwick Boseman didn’t bring it, he plays a great role model with a cool, calm charm unmatched in the MCU, but his character offers little else to be desired. He reacts to everything around him more often than creating the moment. Gurira and Nyong’o steal the scenes with their brand of wit and intensity, and natural scene maker Angela Bassett, T’Challa’s mother Ramonda, helps broaden the world of Wakanda. These are the strongest female cast of characters in the entire MCU, and it would be a safe bet for them to continue to take center stage whenever possible. Also deserving of special praise is Michael B. Jordan, who strikes a balance as the tragic villain better than anything we have ever seen in the MCU, including Bucky Barnes. His costuming is quite possibly the most visually striking aspect in this film, markings lining his skin for every kill in his past.

Black Panther also sports some of the best action sequences in the MCU, predominantly because while he is a strong superhero, he doesn’t really have a gimmick beyond increased strength and agility, similar to Captain America. We get to see his suit used in action multiple times times, but the fights are generally up close and personal. The car chase scene is probably one of the films bigger moments, running up the sides of buildings and surfing on cars, but it really shines in the smaller moments, fighting on waterfall cliff sides and hand to hand on train tracks. The actual brutality in the film was unprecedented as well. There are plenty of moments where this film could have easily jumped to an R-rating. Particularly when Killmonger is involved. This caused an uncertainty in the fight scenes. Even though we see Captain America take some hits, nothing hit as hard as watching T’Challa take a spear to the arm or watching Killmonger headshot his own allies. And every brutal moment is beautifully captured and edited. This was truly a labor of love.

Time to step down from the pulpit and give you some final words. Director Ryan Coogler took something immensely personal and made it universal. He continued a difficult conversation in a profound way, without mincing words or laying down meaningless platitudes. Just as much as Wonder Woman stood up for women last year, Black Panther stands up for equal representation, for unity, for woke-ness. Just as much as I was able to see myself in Killmonger, so to can anyone else. Coogler was able to land the exclamation point at the end of James Brown’s famous words so we can all say, “I’m Black and I’m proud!” And yet, this film is both about and beyond being Black. You don’t need to be represented by a skin color. Little White, Asian, and Hispanic kids can see themselves in the people of Wakanda. We can tear down the wall and reach an understanding. Black Panther stands for everyone. I think that’s something we can all recognize.
