You’ve been the manager for Shiratorizawa’s volleyball team since the start of your second year, settling well into your role and even catching the attention of a certain redheaded middle blocker. Tendou Satori never prioritized romance in his life.

Why would he really? He finally had a fulfilling life: real friends, a passion he was excelling at, an environment he could thrive in. Finally, he wasn’t a creep, an outcast: he belonged. 

However, he would lie if he said he never thought about it. Of course, he did! He is just a teenager after all. But deep down, he is also a romantic. Only Ushijima knew that Satori reads all types of shoujo mangas and sometimes jokes that „if I won't have a love like that, I don’t want it!” (except the ones with miscommunication trope, these ones can go to hell).

He did not expect that this day, dull, windy, boring Wednesday would be the day he’d finally fall hard.

„Do you want something from the vending machine?” Tendou asked Ushijima during the break in between classes. 

„No need” Wakatoshi answered, making Tendou go all of the distance on his own. It's not as if he minded, he liked this alone stroll to his favorite vending machine, the only one in the school that sells the best brand of strawberry milk. 

When he arrived, the area was surprisingly empty, with only two or three people around. 

Tendou looked into his pockets to find any remaining coins, that he usually kept exactly for this part of his day. As he took a coin into his slim fingers, he saw a hand already putting their coin into the machine. 

„Sorry” you two said at the same time, standing close to each other. You smiled awkwardly feeling a little embarrassed that you didn’t notice someone. But Tendou? He was gone the second your eyes met. 

He felt the air leaving his lungs and his pupils widened. It felt like he was struck by lightning. He was just speechless. 

As you didn’t get any verbal reaction, you just continued to put the rest of the coins to the machine and you pressed the button. The red-haired guy looked at the machine and felt like he got transferred into a shoujo manga, and he was the protagonist. 

„Do you like strawberry milk?” He asked breaking the silence. You took the drink out of the machine and looked at him surprised. 

„Y-yeah. This one is my favourite, this is probably the best brand…” he couldn’t believe what he just heard. You looked at the machine and instantly panicked. 

„Oh no, you wanted this milk too? I think I just took the last one” you nervously scanned all of the options looking if there was any other strawberry milk left, as the spot from where you took yours was empty. „Oh no, I’m so sorry!”

Normally, Tendou Satori would sigh, shrug, and say that’s how it's supposed to be, but not this time. This was not a coincidence. This time, it was like all of the planets aligned for him. He looked at you with a smug at his face and then sighed dramatically. 

„This is actually my favorite drink of all time” he said with such a dramatic undertone. „I always have it before lunch, and today I have such an important match…. And I don’t know how I will handle it without my good luck charm, my routine” he sighed again and put the back of his hand on his forehead in the most dramatic position known to man. You really hoped he was joking, otherwise, you will start sweating nervously. You handed him the milk. 

„It's fine, I don’t need it that much…”

„No” he said and stopped your hand. His finger brushed your palm just for a second, and somehow still you felt a shiver going down your spine. „You got it, it's yours. However” he smirked. „How about you go on a date with me instead?”

You blinked twice, processing what you just heard. 

„…I’m sorry, what?” You couldn’t hide your surprise from him. But instead of getting all nervous and backing away from this bold request, he just sent you the warmest and brightest smile you ever saw. 

„Let's go out somewhere. We can get strawberry milk in a park, or go to the cinema: whatever you’d like.”

You felt your face getting warm and you crumbled under his gaze. You never expected to be asked out, especially not like this. 

„…Okay” you mumbled under your breath, hoping he wouldn’t notice your blush. You looked back at him, only to see an expression of a child getting their dream gift on Christmas all over his face. He took out his phone and handed it to you. 

Still in shock over what is happening right now, you put your number there, to an unknown guy from your school, and when you handed it back with your contact information, you noticed him repeating your name quietly as he was trying to engrave it in his memory. After that, he looked at you with the most adorable smile you saw. 

„I’m Satori Tendou” he introduced himself. You couldn’t help but think about how that’s you should start this encounter, not by agreeing on a date first. „And I think we will see each other way more often now” 

He walked away, leaving you with the feeling that he was right.

- you can’t physically squeeze this noodly man to death lmao. He will literally slide out of your grip. Sooo he’s the one that squeezes you to death 😭 you’re peacefully sleeping, and all the sudden, you have to pee so fucking bad.

- right when you start to get up, he will literally pull you back and squeeze your stomach, making you almost punch him in the face. “Tendou I need to pee. So fucking bad please let go of me.”

- “I’m ok. You can suffer tho :)”

- “LET GO PLEASE.”

- you tried squirming but tendou was too tired to let you go. And also he needed cuddles right that second. What could he say? His needs were very important 💀 he finally let you go, and he found it absolutely HILARIOUS how fast you ran to the bathroom.

- “BAUAUSHUDHDUSHEUDHIDHDIDJF YOU RAN LIKE A FUCKING CHEETAH KDBISBSUDHIFBFFJ”

- “SHUT UP! YOURE THE ONE WHO NEEDS CUDDLES EVERY SECOND!”

- “you’re the one who always needs to pee right when I need cuddles.” this “argument” went on for hours but it ended with you two cuddling 😂 also with all this yelling, poor ushijima in the room next to yours was struggling to fall asleep.

you’re tendo’s number one fan in everything he did. there was no close second. and if there was a doubt in anyone’s mind about it—it was safe to say they’d never seen you at any of his volleyball games.

even if you’re normally quiet, you’d be the loudest in the room at his games. you’d scream at the tip of your lungs with your phone in hand. zoomed in onto the tall messy red-haired boy you called your boyfriend. “LET'S GO SATORI! YOU GOT THIS!” you’d shout from the stands, one hand cupping your mouth.

needless to say you always got concerned looks from the people next to you.

tendo enjoyed it the most though. he’d grin widely back at you and wave flamboyantly. his teammates would tease him about it 100% but he had no shame and neither did you.

after games, you’d run across the court to meet with him and tell him how great he was and that he looked so cool. you’d be sure to show him the video when you hung out after you went to his house.

cuddled on the couch watching back the footage. he laughed every time he heard your voice book through the speaker on your phone. which caused the audio to cut out every now and then. “you act like i’m a celebrity when you do this.” he joked as he nudged your shoulder.

you snickered at his comment and pushed the video to look at him. “well you are in my eyes, and i’m your #1 fan, forever and always.” you smiled as you leaned in to place a firm kiss on his lips.

He leaned on the shopping cart, rolling slowly through the cereal aisle. He couldn’t wait to get home so he could lay on the couch with you, his head in your lap that was softer than any pillow, binging some show on Netflix while you played with his hair. A warm shudder overcame him at the thought of this utter domestic bliss. He thought it was amazing that after three years there wasn’t a moment he hadn’t wanted to share with you. You picked him up whenever he was feeling down. You offered advice, you kept him grounded. Whenever something happened, you were always the first person he wanted to tell, your opinion being the only one he has really cared about since he met you. He looked up dreamily and saw you coming around the shelves, pondering over a pack of bread and smiling brightly when you spotted him. And in that moment everything fell into place. How had there ever been even a debate? You were the one. As simple as that.

“What?”, you looked at him in mock suspicion. He just grinned.

“I’m gonna marry you.”, he said as if only announcing something nice for dinner. You poked his side with a little chuckle and moved on down the aisle to pick out a cereal, waving at a dog through the shop window as it walked past. “So hard.”

You just finished feeding your baby in the nursery before heading down the hallway to check in where your husband was responsible for getting your daughter ready for her first day in school. As you hear him talk, you stop behind the wall, silently leaning against it to take in the slow moment of the morning and listen to two of the three most precious people in your life.

“What do you want for your hair, princess? I was thinking this, maybe?” Tendo said, and you could just imagine him holding up the accessories he thought she looked the cutest with. Your husband might have seemed excited to help her get ready, but you knew him well enough to hear the nervousness behind it. It’s her first day at school and Tendo never had the most luck making friends when he was her age. How unlucky his daughter was to inherit so much of him, he thought sometimes. Curse his insecure thoughts, but he worried for her. “This bow suits your hair colour.” Her fiery red hair.

“Can you do the ballerina bun with the bow, s'il vous plait?” she asked, ever so politely practising her French.

“I can try, but it might not be as good as when your mom does it.” he said with a soft chuckle, already getting the hair gel and proper brush from the cupboard. Your daughter hummed her little songs, reminding you so much of your husband who somehow could follow along with her made-up lyrics.

Satori carefully distributed the tiniest amount of gel he would need throughout her hair and brushed it back, muttering small sorries when it looked like he pulled on some hair he didn’t mean to. After finally getting it in a hair tie, he had to stop and actually breathe. That’s when he noticed a small bump or two on one side, but he knew you could fix that later so he got started on the bun. The final product was nothing short of pretty good.

Your daughter carefully turned around on the step she stood on in front of the sink. “Up, up!” Satori lifted her and spun her around once when she made grabby hands for him to pick her up. Her giggles were such a joy that always filled your house with love. Satori was already thinking that they needed to take lots of pictures before you all left, but then his daughter's arms blocked his vision of the mirror. She was less carefully placing a matching bow in his hair, which the hair clip could barely hold on to at this length. It had grown out a bit since he shaved it last, so the clip held on for now. Pulling her hands back, she smiled at him and clapped. “It suits our hair colour, daddy!”

And when he looked at his beautiful daughter, he didn’t just see what he used to dislike about himself. He also saw so much of you. Your nose, your smile, your love. His daughter is really the most perfect thing he ever laid his eyes on, except maybe you.

Maybe he should trust that the universe has a plan for her, just like it gifted him with this family. His paradise.

“Let’s go make some new friends, miracle girl.”
