Realised why I think Alan Becker's AvM stands out from other similar (i.e. any stickman plus game animation). I mean. Outside of the amazing animation and storytelling of Alan Becker, there was something else that stood out to me as different from them and I've finally figured it out.

In a lot of animations, things happen to the characters, while in AvM the characters are the ones doing something.

Let me explain that:

In other animations, the stick figures are put in a situation. They don't discover whatever game, they just get tossed into it and have to figure out the mechanics by trial and error. Like. I'm currently thinking of a terraria series, the episodes are more along the lines of "they're chilling and then something attacks them"

Now compare this to AvM. Sure things are happening to them, but that's because the characters are actively seeking them out. Like in ep6, Command Blocks, bad things happen, but it's because Yellow was curious about what else minecraft had to offer rather than things just started happening. Then, for the season 1 "finale" (aka the episodes with a connecting story), they could have very easily had none of that happen! When Blue and Green found that portal it would not have been hard to just destroy it and carry on! But they were curious, and this led them to discovering the Nether, meeting Purple, and going to the End. And this is the same with season 3! The whole thing started because Blue wanted more Nether warts, and so went and did something!

QSMP Elections

(Disclaimer, I am a Slimecicle main for the most part, I do watch other povs)

It’s interesting seeing everyone argue about what is the best policy but calling q!BBH, Gegg and q!Baghera naive for believing in revolution as opposed to fixing the system from the inside is failing to consider recent ideology promoted in leftist circles of the US about Law Enforcement. From a US perspective the idea of fixing the system from the inside could seem naive. If everyone in the federation is corrupt how could a single person fix the damage in a more effective way than a council? Also, it is very easy to point out the lack of official policies planned by Gegg, q!Baghera and q!BBH but this fails to account for the fact they (at least q!Baghera and q!BBH) only want things that people agree on. Say there was a mod they wanted to add but someone else doesn’t, they don’t know that until the council is assembled so that everyone can voice their concerns hence they can only say things they might do if agreed by the council, not what they definitely will do. For example, invisible armour (I don’t know what exact mod q!Cellbit is suggesting) might not be supported by people who enjoy duels like the q!Quackity and q!Slime one at the funeral as it gives a greater opportunity to cheat during these kind of duels. However it is the job of the candidates to make these kind of points during the debates to prevent any confusion so them not explaining a reason for not promoting a lot of their own ideas is a flaw.

Opinions on the candidates more specifically below:

Gegg/q!Slime has said that he thinks the election is rigged, which is likely a factor in him campaigning for revolution. He is also, from a meta perspective, highly likely to die and has expressed a desire to be a martyr. So him promoting this ideology allows him to continue lore if he dies too early in the electoral process. I love him as a funny little guy; even if he will likely die before the voting. Also, his stuff about burning everything is actually suspicious and I hope if he is elected he immediately becomes corrupt. If he doesn’t die and I can vote. I will probably vote for him.

I genuinely love the duo of q!Cellbit and q!Forever and I think they have a lot of great ideas, q!Cellbit acting as a shield for q!Forever is a genius strategy and they both care so much about this server and the people and eggs on it. But I don’t know why they necessarily think this is a good idea since q!Cellbit and q!Felps got close to the Federation and ended up kidnapped. Although, from a Meta perspective q!Forever is for sure a great choice. He greatly cares about the people on the server, he does so much for the community and is overall a great guy. But he also someone I don’t want anything bad to happen to. Richas has been through way too much at this point.

When thinking about q!BBH he is a great guy and friend to most of the server. I support the sharing of power. But there is one thing that worries me, this is probably a trap and q!Bad is a single parent. If this goes wrong, it is very much a concern for Dapper. But this would also be very angsty and I do like angst in moderation.

On q!Baghera, I think she is a great pick and would be a good choice. The council seems like a good idea and, much like Forever, Cellbit and BBH, she is on the server a lot and does a lot of RP. Something bad happening to her would be very angsty and there are other parents who can take care of Pomme if she ends up taken. I do think she needs to ask more people what they want if she hasn’t already due to her campaign being rooted in being a voice for the people.

I think q!Mike would also be a great choice from a Meta perspective and a lore perspective. Tazercraft having an increased access to things they might want to add to improve the server and make new events is genuinely great. It would be interesting to see how q!Mike would implement Communist ideology as well. His roleplaying is funny and I think if they went with a corruption arc he would be quite good at it. (I know I used the argument that Richas has been through enough, but I think q!Mike is more likely to be a corruption arc and do think what the Federation does with the winner will depend of which candidate wins, probably)

I think, taking into account that this whole thing is likely some kind of trap and/or rigged, q!Etoiles might actually be a good choice. He is strong and has a great desire to protect others. If this was some kind of trap then it would be greatly dramatic to have one of the strongest players be taken out or impressive to see him fight to escape. He also cares deeply about the other players and I do think he would give other players a voice while also, as president, being a target. I do think that whoever the president is (if not ElQuackity) will be a target for something.

When it comes to q!Foolish, I think he is the best choice if you want a revolution. He seems to be vaguely corrupt already and even tried to assassinate Gegg. It would be an interesting and funny arc but there would be the looming threat of q!Vegetta so the actual damage this could do might be higher than we might expect. He is also silly and already likes the Federation (or at least pretends too); so we might get funny Federation employee and q!Foolish interactions.

I don’t know a lot about q!Felps and his policies outside of the power of pasta (if I am remembering correctly) because he didn’t really get to speak much and my Wifi is pretty bad. I would love to hear more about him though and I think it would be funny if he won. I do really love pasta.

I do not want ElQuackity to win. It would probably be interesting lore wise. It would also likely lead to a revolution arc but he has less allies in terms of server members so it would be less conflict than if a revolution occurred under another candidate. Although, he is the closest to a guaranteed one if a revolution is a must.

your tags on that post about the dsmp twitch con panel were really interesting! i'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, but it seems fascinating- what do you mean by the panel moderator being bad? what are the hallmarks of an experienced one?

oh boy well first of all i am not claiming to be particularly knowledgable myself, but even as someone who is very comprehensively Not An Authority on the Matter and whose knowledge of the streamers on the panel was probably comparable to the actual moderator prior to their arrival onstage (read: i knew almost all of their screen names and not a whole lot else) there was still a lot that seems. kinda obvious?

like for example while going through the handful of questions she asked everybody before opening it up to the audience, nobody was really taking initiative or elaborating on their answers. someone who was more comfortable interviewing would have been able to pick up on the stiffness of their subjects and known to give more direction (just something as simple as “okay we’ll start at this end of the table” and then prompting each successive streamer when the current one ran out of steam) and would have known when to ask follow-up questions (like noticing hey this person has more to say but isn’t sure if they should, i’ll reassure them/ask what they mean).

(actually on that note—the streamers seemed to really flounder with the lack of direction and ended up compensating by essentially turning dream’s mic into The Talking Stick, despite everyone *except* dream already having a mic in front of them. i found this way funnier than i should and would have clowned on them about it in the mod’s shoes but either way she ideally should have put a stop to it by regrouping and establishing a speaking order or SOMETHING.)

there was also the matter of the audience questions which. were bad. they started bad and largely stayed that way. this in itself is not something the moderator could control, but she reallly should have stepped up and made herself the bad guy the first time someone tried to use their turn on the mic to ask for a picture or give someone on the panel a gift instead of asking a question. just a simple “sorry we can’t do that/requests aren’t allowed please stick to questions” would have smoothed things over in a way the streamers couldn’t do. dream especially is notorious for having no parasocial boundaries and tbh comes across as physically incapable of rejecting people. and regardless of your feelings about that, in an irl setting this means anyone moderating a panel with him on it HAS TO draw those boundaries for him to keep the event running smoothly. idk that just seems so glaringly obvious to me and i don’t understand how anyone with actual experience running events and even the most barebones knowledge of the *most famous guy there* wouldn’t have known this was necessary?

i’m keeping my focus limited to your question here, but for the record i don’t want to put too much blame on the moderator. there was a LOT going on with that panel and she was kinda thrown into the deep end with what seems to have been almost no prep time and certainly with no consideration for her own aptitude.

basically, she wasn’t great, but i’d argue she wasn’t exceptionally bad. as the mod in a situation like that, your job is to control the social environment and keep the conversation on topic and interesting. the difficulty of this role varies wildly depending on the sociability, charisma, and public speaking experience of the people being interviewed. the chosen moderator of a panel full of wildly popular 18-24y/o minecraft streamers who made names for themselves during the two years no one on earth touched grass needs to be really, really good at their job

I have a few questions, if you don't mind.

Why make/mod/have a subreddit dedicated to making fun of (majority) trauma survivors and children? I mean this truly genuinely, please don't take it badly, you seem really really fucking reasonable based off your posts on here. But you mod a subreddit that hunts down systems, and spreads misinformation on them (yes most system tiktokers, and 10 yr olds who think systemhood is cool are spreading misinformation! You fight misinformation with facts though, not the opposite misinfo. Its regularly made clear on their many don't even believe in disorders systems, who often suffer the consequences. The real life consequences, like suicide because someone unstable as all hell is getting harassed. It creates an unrealistic portrayal of what a system is "covert yet suffering so bad they need to be locked up their whole life (this is based off a real comment I've seen on that sub)" Communication must be high, no it must be low. You can't have introjects except these ones. You can't this, or that. Its often *based* in truth, however doesn't quite reach there. Like for example the conception that systems can't have tons of members. Its based in fact, when systems have lots and lots of members they're typically fragments not full members (polyfragmentation), but the systems still have high counts. No no one can be positive they have 21 members, but they can have a rough estimate. Yknow things like that. This unstable knowledge of what a system is leads to uneasiness around systems, and lots and lots of fakeclaiming even when they aren't doing anything "wrong". It just... harms systems in general. Including DID, OSDD, and otherwise disordered systems. Including people like myself who fit those standards it sets (no introjects, littles, disordered, traumagenic, doesn't delve too deep into my disorder online), but are still called fake due to contradictions and even sharing fucking memes about systemhood. It makes it seem like the subreddit is made to get us (systems) killed. To pick us off, bully us until we end up dead. We tend to be unstable as it is yknow. I won't even touch how imposter syndrome affects a shit ton of disordered systems due to that being like... the whole damn point. To hide itself.

Yet despite all the harm your subreddit does you don't seem to be the evil scary monster one would expect. So just... why do it? You seem reasonable and not like... a shit shit person. So it just doesn't make sense. Are you maybe just lacking in mods? Because i will admit the majority of the extremely harmful content isn't from you, it's not even from fakerbaiter. Its from the community y'all built. It just seems like y'all could be fucking decent! 2a1. To clear things up; I am not a moderator of FDC or SC. If I was, that'd be news to me. I am however the moderator of a joke subreddit called r/FakeSingletCringe and a subreddit which focuses on transx instead of systems: r/NotWhatTransMeans.

2a2. I do not know the actual reason for either FDC or SC's creation, but I post on them as a form of expressing insult. I mainly use FDC for posting people who are generalising a disorder, wanting a disorder, perhaps even promoting self-diagnosis over one TikTok video (not to mention what I call "Disorder challenges," where "if you can do xyz, you most likely have this disorder"). I also post on them when I see a robot. I don't like robots. I don't trust them/hj. I cannot speak for the rest of the posters.

2a3. (see 1a2, above) Like I had said before, I don't know if the subreddits were made to make fun of trauma survivors and children, but I will admit, that is what it has turned out to be. Many if not most of the posts are made to make fun of the person(s) being posted; others are by people spamming the subreddit, debunking information given by pro-endogenic systems, or information (for instance, I believe that a copy of the DSM-V featuring DID is a pinned post in r/SystemsCringe). Many of the posts, mainly Discord (though those posts are less than what they once were), are posted making fun of the person(s) concerned.

2b1. I wont deny it; there is hunting going on in the subreddits. But I disagree about the misinformation. But I have observed that, after clearing a few things up with some pro-endogenic systems, that it's more miscommunication than misinformation. 2c1. Again, Im curious on the misinformation we are spreading. I am aware (and disappointed) that there are community members who do not believe in DID/OSDD, probably because they see it nothing more than an online trend. There's miscommunication surrounding "disorder holders" (which, apparently, means that one alter shows more symptoms of a disorder that the entire system has, than the rest of the alters), along with some other endogenic terms.

Its regularly made clear on (there,) many don't even believe in disorders systems, who often suffer the consequences.

2d1. (See 2c1, above) I wouldn't say many, that's a stretch. I expect those who do comment about DID, OSDD, and other disorders not existing to be downvoted into oblivion (from that phrase alone you can tell I'm a Redditor).

2e1. I understand this more than you may think. There is an abusive method hiding behind what many may call "tough love." Many preach that fakeclaiming has helped them realise that they are faking, and many use this as an example to continue fakeclaiming. But fakeclaiming is not always helpful to everyone.

Although there may be some logic lacking in this, there are other reasons for believing this (for myself, at least). I cannot speak for other's experiences.

3a1. I have a few personal reasons for why I actually started enveloping myself in syscourse. When I first got introduced to it, I didn't learn that there were subreddits circling it until much later. Reasons for myself are more private, and again, I cannot speak for other Redditors. But you built a community that really draws in the most vile people, and i can't seem to figure out why y'all would want that.

3c1. I didn't create the sub, much less the community. The community was in place when I joined it; and the same goes for FakerBaiter and many others.

(I guess it wouldn't be too hard to find out who I am but I'll remain anonymous to try to keep what little anonymity I can get) I'm extremely dyslexic so I'm sorry if the formatting is weird! I had an experience recently that really opened my eyes up to how toxic the cs community is and I thought it was worth sharing. I'm a pop cs moderator and I typically thought I had a good standing with my members. I wasn't perfect, moderating is a hard job and a very opinionated job at that, I was going to mess stuff up. A bit ago I made a big purchase on an adopt, a good chunk of change. I'd never really spent this much before, but it was enough to where it made headlines in other cs vents. I knew I could spend this type of money, I had sold multiple pop cs designs off as vouchers to make it, so it wasn't like it was coming out of pocket. But of course when cs vent has something to complain about they'll latch onto it... Someone made a post where they went through my trello claiming that I was lazy because rather then finishing my commissions in my trello I was wasting their money on an expensive adopt. The moderator agreed, chalking it up to "cs behavior". I was mortified. I'd never been the target of this sort of thing and quickly went to the two commissioners who were waiting on me. I was worried one of them may have been upset and said that. The thing is, I had informed both of them before I went on hiatus that 2 family members were in the hospital, and 1 was dying. I was taking a break because doing customs was not helping my grieving process. Both of them were good friends and assured me that they understood and were being patient (one even went on the blog to defend me which I feel really bad about,,,) But it was all so weird. Nobody cared I had the money to spend on the purchase, nobody cared about my dying family members, nobody cared I was grieving. I was a pop cs mod, my feelings didn't matter to these people. As soon as I had gotten to position, no matter if it was for money or for passion, I became as bad as all the worst of my peers. This may be heard on deaf ears but I encourage you all to remember these mods, they are people... I know not all of them are great or outstanding at their jobs, but not all of them are horrible either. The absolute violation I felt to have someone digging through my stuff to find my trello (it is very out of the way) to find something, ANYTHING to complain about. It was horrifying. I can only imagine the mental state of the people who are targets of cs vent chats constantly such as Darci or Kid. Not to say I'm a fan of either of them, but if such a small thing affected me so badly, what are they going through. Maybe I'm just soft... Anyways thank you for coming to my ted talk,,,!

Hello mate, Mod Earl here.. I do have several things to add. Have a seat and a cult of tea if you’d like!

Firstly, I do apologize to hear of this. And in all honesty I would encourage you to do your best to void from looking at such sites if it causes you much stress and uneasiness.

The stuff that I’ve learned from within the internet is.. well, can’t please anybody. People can be crude and not empathetic. Even if you’re doing your darndest, there’s always going to be a few that got something to say! And to be a mod of this popular CS, I would say.. it’s to be expected. Adapt and overcome is what my Gramps would say! Got to get some tough skin, angry people from the internet should be the least of your problem to deal with. They just tend to find something to complain and gotta vent out their frustration (hence the vent in the name of ‘csvent’).

Also to go through the lengths to pick on something so small and enlarging it into an argument does feel a bit much… but again, if things are online and available for others to see, it’s there for others to drop a say in things.

Shame on the anonymous venter for running off to a gossip sight if they intend to instigate things.. the silliest of the twats.

Also it’s your money. You do you. I’m sure many others online do the same thing too. They have money, they spend it on what they want. (Wow! What a bloody shocking discovery!) Just do you mate. Learn from this mishap and simply do your best to filter out the nonsense.

I think that trying to catalogue the drama from cherp and all its predecessors is a futile task and wouldn't serve any purpose to parties that were involved or affected. All it might do is rehash old conflicts that could be left to fade away in people's collective memory and hopefully the entire internet as the websites become defunct and screenshots and logs are lost. You've already raised your issues that you have with cherp and I'm sure staff has seen it as well.

Hold on I saw a format that was really good for these kind of things the other day.

I will present to you a variety of answers in the format of a dungeons and dragons alignment evil chart. Please feel free to pick and choose which answer you fixate on and get angry at, as there are a variety to taste and linger on.

Lawful evil: Not everything is about making a statement to the mod team in charge of Cherp, and certainly not when much of the history of the site doesn't have to deal with them specifically. Once again, I don't actively hate the mod team on charge of Cherp. I think that they've done some clown things and made some clown rules, however people under tremendous amounts of stress tend to do that, and they are, generally speaking, under a tremendous amount of stress. Acknowledging both that they are stressed and have been through a lot of harrassment while still making what are (in my opinion) bad rule and moderation choices for the site are not things that are mutually exclusive. I don't think the cherp mods are bad people by any means, and I would not want to paint them in the light of being bad people in whatever and however I cover it. I think people are, at their core, incredibly complicated, and cherp as a website has an incredibly complicated history behind it.

Neutral evil: I am, I'm fact, being forward about how a lot of the drama spun in the early days of cherubplay was due in part to yours truely, however am also able to acknowledge that much of that had to do with being a 13 year old on the internet. While there's a lot of Shame that can come from delving deep into my past like that, as given that I was a child I held views that were very questionable and I would denounce now, cherubplay and the community was, and still is, a very influential part of my life. Therefore I, and anyone else that has been here since the early days, have just as much a right to tell our stories and experiences in cherubplay and the drama around it as we do any other part of our life, and I think loosing that would be worse then letting it fade away.

Chaotic Evil: I probably wasn't actually going to document it as it seems as though it would be a lot of time, work, and effort just to have a document I would use to show roughly a few friendgroups and future friends, and maybe a blogs worth of people. However, getting messages like this only makes me want to do it more.

Just because the history of a website is bad does not mean that it's something that should be allowed to be forgotten with time. People learn from history. I've been on so many sites that don't know their history and thus, repeated, drama that was covered crops up time and time again. For better or for worse, the evolution of the site and how we got to where we are today.

On top of that, I don't doubt that my name has left the cherp staffs lips in recent days. But also, as much as I bitch, moan, and complain, what I think isnt actually going to change their opinions. They obviously have their minds made up on this rule, and that is their business to decide. However, this is also my blog, and I am allowed to cast my judgement on my blog and show how ridiculous the majority of people outside the bubble of Cherp actually think it is. That does not, in fact, mean they have to listen. Critic is once again, not harrassment, and I have just as much a right to voicing a complaint as they do to keep the rule on their site.

My Experiences and Safety Concerns on the Whumper Gathering and Niji  Discord Servers

      A content warning for this post: I am discussing a real case involving sexualization of a minor and predatory behavior by an adult. Please proceed with caution if you are sensitive to these issues. I remain as vague as I can be throughout the post while still accurately describing what happened and capturing the gravity of the situation.

     I want to start this out by saying I hate cancel culture. I hate it, I hate witch hunts, I hate call out posts, I hate bitching about people on the internet for no good reason.

     But I draw the line when there is a reason. I draw the line where other people, especially minors, are legitimately at risk.

     There have been many posts on the topic of the Whumper Gathering server. Two that explain the situation well are this one and this one. I won’t pick the server itself apart piece by piece here, as I only intend on sharing my own experience there and why I am so concerned for everyone still in the server, and for those who interact with its’ owner, Yume.

     I first joined the Whumper Gathering server in November of 2019. Back then, it was a welcoming place, serving as a hub of roleplay and character discussion. There were a few bumps along the road, but they were routine server issues that Yume handled delicately. Everything was fine. I made close friends there.

     The issues involving me began around the end of January. Yume approached me on the 31st asking if I’d like to be a moderator of the server. I accepted quickly, overjoyed to be a bigger part of the community that I loved so much.

     Unfortunately, that conversation was when everything started to go downhill. The first instance where I felt incredibly unnerved by Yume’s behavior toward me was when she asked this incredibly off-handed question right after I agreed to be a moderator:

     I am a minor. At the time that this conversation occurred, I was thirteen. Yume was completely aware of this, she knew it from my introduction in the server, yet she still somehow considered it appropriate to ask me a question with romantic implications.

     I was extremely confused and taken aback in the moment. I just laughed it off because I didn’t know what else to do.

     Yume’s conduct toward me did not stop or change after that. If anything, it worsened. After I made one joke in the server implying that I wanted to go to college to be a trophy wife, she gripped onto the name for months, and called me HER trophy wife hundreds of times despite the original joke having nothing to do with her. I was too afraid to call her out on how inappropriate it was for her to talk to me like that when she was an adult and I was, by every definition, a child. I tried to drop hints that I was uncomfortable, and while it isn’t her fault for not being able to read between my lines, even when I did finally gain the courage to flat out say I was uncomfortable, she completely brushed me off. A few examples of this behavior are below, the last being her excusing her behavior after I finally told her I didn’t want to be called her trophy wife. *Please note that the names and profile pictures of others involved in the conversations have been crossed out, because they did not consent to being involved with this post in any way, and did not do anything wrong.

    These are just a FEW examples. Again, I don’t want this to be a witch hunt, so I am only providing necessary examples and not leaving unnecessary screenshots to gawk at. Also, there is a 10 image limit per post and I’m trying to fit everything.

     More rather disturbing screenshots that go further than the “trophy wife” deal:

     The first: Completely unpromtedly implying/saying that she wanted to cuddle with me, at the time a 13 year old. I just wanted to talk about bringing my blanket to school.

     The second: Calling me the “titty police” and going on to talk about me in relation to breasts further. 

     This is just what happened in public chats.

     One of the scariest instances of her conduct toward me happened in a moderator chat. I do not have any screenshot evidence for this, because Yume deleted the entire moderator chat after people began to call her out for her behaviors, but I do have the word of the other former moderators who witnessed this happen.

     Soon after I was appointed as a moderator, we had a situation with a user making inappropriate sexual comments/requests in our roleplay channels. This person by all means could’ve been considered a predator. Yume quickly decided that this person needed to be addressed. There were 3 adult moderators at the time, as well as myself and another minor moderator. We all banded together to figure out a message to send to this person as an immediate warning to stop their behaviors.

     Everything went well until it came to who had to send the message. By now, only Yume and Kekune, Yume’s best friend, were online, along with myself. Yume immediately said that her anxiety was too bad to send it, and said it wasn’t a possibility. Kekune also counted herself out on the grounds of simply not wanting to. That left me, a minor, to go privately DM an adult who was breaking rules in an NSFW manner. I was clearly uncomfortable with the situation, but was pressured into it by both Yume and Kekune and guilted about Yume’s anxiety until I gave in.

     Later into my time as a staff member, when I was a promoted to a co-admin, Yume refused to turn off the “administrator” permission for my role. This meant that I could see all of the server’s NSFW channels. I immediately muted and collapsed them, and told her that I was uncomfortable even being able to view them, but she refused to change the permission for weeks because she preferred to just click administrator and it was anxiety inducing for her to do the permissions individually.

     Yume has also engaged in multiple explicit NSFW roleplays in main roleplay chats and refused to move them to a section where minors could not view them, but I will not elaborate because though I was there and witnessed it, it was not a personal matter to me.

     After I finally left the server in July, Yume proceeded to gossip about me privately with other adults and spread misinformation to the members in her server. I have had multiple adult acquaintances tell me they had to shut Yume down from ranting about me to them on many occasions, and rationally, I can assume there’s many more people Yume talked to about me who did not tell me. Below is a screenshot of Yume spreading blatant misinformation about me in the main chat of Whumper Gathering, saying I sent her hate anons when I could not have possibly done so, since she blocked me.

     Again, I want to reiterate this is the surface level of things. There have been many, many more instances of Yume behaving inappropriately toward me or speaking about me in an inappropriate way. 

     What makes this worse is Yume and some members of her new staff team’s responses.

     Yume adamantly denies any wrongdoing and mongers people around her to agree with her by guilting them with her anxiety, triggers, and sex repulsion. She repeatedly tries to use her asexuality to excuse her actions, or to say that she couldn’t possibly be a predator because of her trauma. She denies every aspect of this situation and blames me.

     She blatantly lies about stopping calling me her trophy wife, as the nickname usage did not stop until I left the server and had no further contact with her. She also completely makes up me implying all asexual people are predators. That never happened. She calls my statements contradictory and tries to explain away her actions, taking no personal responsibility for the situation. She tries to use her sex repulsion as an excuse, and does not own up to being at fault for any part of the situation.

     This is just one of her many, many “apologies”/public statements.

     I rejoined both Whumper Gathering and Niji in July with the intention of shedding light on how dangerous of a person Yume was. Niji was originally an RWBY fandom project, but quickly devolved into Yume’s side server and personal venting space.

     I was met with the support of many members, both in Niji and Whumper Gathering, but Yume’s new mod team (not any of the mods I worked with, there was a mass walk out shortly before I rejoined; this is a newly hired set) had some particularly disgusting responses to me. I was attacked, called a liar, and demeaned, particularly by Kekune. Kekune, who is also an adult, said extremely nasty things to me and completely defended Yume and her actions while also flat out attacking me. She blamed me for everything in relation to Yume while trying to garner support from other server members.

     As you can see, Kekune not only excuses Yume’s behavior, but lies about the facts of the situation, and blames me, the literal child in the situation, for every aspect and states that I should‘ve prevented myself from being sexualized by an adult. “She didn’t mean it like that” is just one of many excuses made during this conversation.

     This entire situation has been extremely emotionally and physically exhausting for me. I’ve put off making this post out of fear of backlash, but at this point, I am more concerned about general and minor safety of the whump community than about whatever hate I may receive. There are many, many other horrible behaviors and things Yume has done in the WG and Niji servers; these are just my own personal experiences, as I think the posts I linked above do plenty of explaining, and I don’t need to beat a dead horse.

     My message and point with sharing this is simple. Do Not Interact, particularly if you are a minor. If you are still in WG or Niji, leave. Yume is a dangerous individual, as are many of her mods.

     Yume has over a hundred side blogs. The ones I know she uses most are @/whump-dream and @/midian-alexandra. I urge EVERYONE, particularly minors, not to interact with her or either of her servers. It is not safe. You could end up gaslit, manipulated, and/or verbally abused. It’s not worth being there for entertainment or to “watch the drama.”

     All of the above words are mine and mine only. No one else edited this, or even saw it before I posted it publicly. You are welcome to reblog for signal boost if you’d like, but I ask that you please do not add any comments and message me privately with any concerns, because I do not want this to turn into a witch hunt or a flame war against Yume or her staff, and again, this post is 100% from me. Please be safe, friends. The whump community is meant to be safe and welcoming and individuals like this prevent that from being the case.

How to Play as Violet Parr in DnD 5e

To be fair the Invisible/Force Fields power combo is a surprisingly common trope, so you can also view this as how to plays as the Invisible Woman Susan Storm among other characters with this power set, I was just introduced to Violet first, and I’m a bigger fan of Disney and Pixar than I am of Marvel.

First up for Race, we’re mostly human but genetically mutated. It’s never made clear how supers came to be, but it seems to just be a genetic mutation, so Violet is a Variant Human. Variant Humans get +1 in two stats of their choice, we’ll choose DEX and INT. Luckily for this build, we only need 2 stats to be as maxed as possible so the rest can be dumped in the trash where they belong. Variant Humans also get to pick up a free feat, and here are your best options: Defensive Duelist - While wielding a finesse weapon, when an enemy makes a melee attack, add your proficiency bonus to your AC. A high AC means stronger forcefields which means fewer attacks are going to hit you. Also, because Abjuration Wizards get Spell Resistance which not only improves spell saving throws but reduces damage taken from spells, this melee-exclusive dodging aid is a fantastic option to further capitalize on her forcefields by reducing the odds of spells working on her and on melee attacks getting past her defenses. The only drawback is that Violet does not canonically use any finesse weapons. However, if your DM is willing to handwave the finesse requirement by letting Violet use a shield for this feat, it could still be in character for her. Fade Away - Okay, this is a Gnome exclusive feat but it works very nicely for her. Immediately upon taking damage, Violet will turn invisible, allowing her to run away or recuperate herself. As Violet’s invisibility is a little harder to incorporate into her build, this is a great way to give her another route to becoming invisible during combat.

Medium Armor Master - Only if you have proficiency with medium armor, you no longer have disadvantage on stealth checks which is great for an invisible girl with a knack for stealth. Your AC increases by an extra +1 when your DEX is 16 or more.

Moderately Armored - You gain proficiency with Medium Armor and Shields if you don’t already have it, and +1 STR or DEX. Not necessary if Violet takes a few levels in Cleric, Fighter, or Paladin.

Shield Master: You can use your shield to push enemies away, add your shield’s AC bonus to DEX saving throws, and Uncanny Dodge becomes Evasion.

Violet isn’t above defying her mother and sneaking on the plane, but then later on, Violet is the one advocating for following their mother’s instructions and doing as they’re told. Thus, I’d label her as Neutral Good. She does what she thinks is right, which isn’t always following the rules, but not always breaking it either.

For background, City Watch has been my standard go-to for super heroes. However, she’s dealing with a secret identity and is technically a criminal since super heroes aren’t currently legal. Secret Identity variant Charlatans get proficiency with Deception so you can bluff to your boyfriend that you’re totally normal and Sleight of Hand so you can sneakily take evidence about criminal activity.

The Class Weirdo

Let’s get this out of the way first, you are an Abjuration Wizard of at least 14 levels. By 14th Level you get temporary hit points equal to 2x your Wizard level + your INT mod when you cast an Abjuration spell. News flash, Mage Armor and Shield are both Abjuration spells. Literally any time you raise your AC, you’re getting an instant, automatic base 33 temp HP points, and 45 if you go maxed out Wizard. But more importantly, at 14th level, you not only have advantage on resisting spells, but when they do hit you, they deal resisted damage, leaving only melee attackers as a viable threat. Trust me, you want to be a 14th level Abjuration Wizard. However, there are a few other multiclass options to consider.

Cleric     Protection: Your Wisdom score won’t be very high, but then, you’d mostly use your Cleric levels to pick up non-damaging spells like Sanctuary, Shield of Faith, Warding Bond, Spirit Guardians, and Guardian of the Faith. You pretty much get handed the Protection Fighting Style, and Radiant Defense which gives you or an ally radiant armor that, when struck for the first time, deals 2d10+your cleric level radiant damage. Too bad you need to be 14 levels in Wizard, so the absolute highest this can be is 2d10+6 for anywhere from 8 - 26 damage. You also get proficiency with Medium Armor and Shields, which is important.

Fighter     Psychic Warrior: You tap into your inner reservoir of psychic energy. With augmented defenses, you can reduce any damage you or an ally takes by 1d10. You also get mage hand but big woop you already picked that up as a Wizard Cantrip.

Fighting Style Options:     Defense: Increases your AC by +1     Interception: Reduce damage meant for an ally within 5 feet by 1d10, however distance can be discussed with your DM.     Protection: Impose disadvantage on attacks meant for an ally within 5 feet.

Paladin     Redemption: You can punish those who take violent actions against those other than you in radiant damage equal to the damage they just dished out with your Channel Divinity. At 7th Level you can take damage for your allies, but by 7th level, you’re a little out of luck, since that makes 21, and is therefore not viable. Also, Paladin requires CHA to multiclass and Violet is awkward and insecure.

Rogue    Okay, so this one doesn’t offer shield proficiencies, but on the other hand, it does offer Uncanny Dodge, which becomes as good as Evasion with Shield Master. You also get Expertise so you can be unbelievably good at Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Deception, or Investigation. There’s no real recommendation here, as none of the Roguish Archetypes really seem to scream “yo, this is so Vi”, but Rogue is still a useful class to consider for her build. However, I suppose the best is Inquisitive as it lets her detect lies and makes her better at perception and investigation out of combat to find clues so she can solve crime.

As an Abjuration Wizard, Intelligence is the #1 priority. It’ll provide us with more temporary hit points when we use our Arcane Ward. Dexterity determines our AC. This can be one’s knack for dodging attacks (as was the case with Itachi) or it can be the deciding factor for how hard your defenses are to bypass. Considering a multiple ton robot had to drop its entire body on Violet multiple times to break her shield, I’d argue her shield must be pretty durable, so a high AC is in order. After that, we’ll pick up Constitution. While it’s fair that Violet herself isn’t super tough, her high CON stat could be seen as an extension of her force field powers. After that, the other three can land wherever you want to put them. This is one Fighter who doesn’t care about having a high STR stat, and Violet doesn’t need WIS or CHA outside of multi-classing.

ngl asking for people who self-identify as "antis" is already biasing your results because the term originated from fans being defensive over getting called out (eg the types who sincerely think fandom culture is ""puritan""). fair number of people started to use the term ironically and it might be evening out but overall the post calling for responses on the survey still comes off as something written in bad faith?

Fair warning, this is a hyperfixation and I’m coming off of a migraine so this may not be very cogent. Please read this in the over excited tones of someone infodumping about emulsifiers, with no animosity intended.

So, tl;dr and with a lot fewer links, I’m incredibly interested by your perspective that “anti” originated as a derogatory term.

As far as I am aware, the etymological history of the word “anti” being used pejoratively is coming from some very new debates.

I’m also noting that you had no feedback regarding the content of the questions themselves, which I would be interested in hearing as I am genuinely coming from a place without censure.

The term “anti” actually is a self-descriptor that arose in the Livejournal days, where you’d tag something as “Anti ___” for other like minded people to find. (For example, my cursory google search pulled up 10 Anti Amy Lee communities on LJ).

I’m a self-confessed old. I was back in fandom before Livejournal, aaaall the way back in the Angelfire days. Webrings children! We had webrings! And guest books for you to sign!

I’m going to take a swing for the fences here Anon, so if I’m wrong please let me know, but I’m going to guess you became active as a fan in the past 5-8 years based of your use of the term puritan.

There’s actually a HUGELY new debate in fandom spaces! Previously, it was assumed that:

a) All fandom spaces are created and used by adults only.

b) If you were seeing something, it’s because you dug for it.

These assumptions were predicated upon what spaces fandoms grew in. First you had Star Trek TOS fandom, which grew in 1970s housewives kitchens. They were all friends irl, and everyone was an adult, and you actively had to reach out to other adults to talk about things. (By the way- a woman lost custody of her children in the divorce when her ex husband brought up to the judge she kept a Kirk/Spock zine under her bed. The judge ruled this as obvious signs of moral deficiency. That was in the 80s! Everyone is still alive and the parents are younger than my coworkers!)

Time: 1967-1980s. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.

Then, when the internet came about, it was almost exclusively used by adults until The Eternal September. 1993 was the year that changed the internet for good, but even years after that the internet was a majority adult space. Most kids and teens didn’t have unlimited access if their parents even had a home computer in the 90s.

This is the rise of Angelfire, which were fansites all connected to each other in “rings”. You had to hunt for content. If you found something you didn’t like, well, you clicked out and went on with your day because you’d never see it again unless you really dug. This was truly the wild west, tagging did not exist and you could go from fluff to vore in the blink of an eye with nothing warning you before hand. All fannish spaces were marked “here be dragons” and attempts were made to at least adopt the “R/NC-17″ ratings on works to some limited success, depending on webmaster.

Time: 1990-1999. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.

In 1999 LiveJournal arose like a leviathan, and here is where the term Anti emerges as a self descriptor. Larger communities began to form, and with them, divisions. Now, you could reach so many fans you could reach a critical mass of them for enough of them to dislike a ship. The phrase “Anti” became a self-used tag, as people tagged their works, communities, and blogs with “anti” (NB: this is at far, far smaller rates than today). Anti was first and foremost a tagging tool used and created by the people who were vehemently against something.

You could find content more easily than in the past, but you still had to put some serious elbow grease into it.

In 2007, Livejournal bans users for art "depicting minors in explicit sexual situations”. The Livejournal community explodes in anger- towards Livejournal staff. The account holders/fans view this as corporate puritanical meddling. The outrage continues as it is revealed these bans were part of a pre-sale operation to SUP Services. SUP Services, upon taking over Livejournal in 2008, proceeds to filter the topics “bisexuality, depression, faeries, girls, boys, and fanfiction”.

The Great LiveJournal Migration begins, as fans leave the site in droves.

Time: 1999-2009. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing, seeking to create communities based off a dislike of something. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.

Where do fans go? Well, in the last decade, they migrated to Tumblr and Twitter (sorry Pillowfort- you gave it a good try!)

What’s different about all of these sites? Individuals are able to create and access content streams. These are hugely impactful in how communities are formed! Because now:

a) finding content is easier

b) finding content you dislike by accident is easier

c) content you dislike requires active curation to avoid

d) truly anonymous outreach is possible and easy (for example, you anon! Isn’t it much easier to go on anon to bring up awkward or sensitive topics? I’m happy you did by the way, and that’s why I keep my anons open. It’s an important contextual tool in the online communications world!)

Now the term Anti gets sprightly. Previously, if you didn’t like content, there was nothing you could really do about it. For example, I, at the tender age of way-too-young, opened up a page of my favorite Star Trek Deep Space 9 fansite and pixel by pixel with all the loading speed of a stoned turtle a very anatomically incorrect orgy appeared.

I backed out.

1. Who could I contact? There was no “message me here” button, no way to summon any mods on Angelfire sites.

2. If I did manage to find a contact button, I would have had to admit I went onto a site that wasn’t designed to keep me safe. I knew this was a site for adults, I knew there wasn’t a way to stop it from showing something. There was no such thing as tags. I knew all of this before going in. So the assumption was, it was on me for looking. (Some may have argued it was on my parents for not supervising me- all I can say is thank GOD no one else was in the living room and my mom was around the corner in the kitchen.)

But now? On Tumblr? On Twitter? In a decade in which tagging is so easy and ubiquitous it’s expected?

Now people who describe themselves as antis start to have actual tools and social conventions to utilize.

Which leads to immediate backlash! Content creators are confused and upset- fandom spaces have been the wild west for decades, and there’s still no sherriff in town. So the immediate go-to argument is that these people who are messaging them are “puritans”.

And that’s actually an interesting argument! A huge factor in shaping the internet’s social mores in the latest decades is cleanliness for stockbrokers. Websites can become toxic to investors and to sales if they contain sexual content. Over time, corporations perfected a mechanism for “cleaning” a site for sale.

Please note there is no personal opinion or judgement in this next list, it is simply a description of corporate strategies you can read during the minute meetings of shareholders for Tumblr, Twitter, Paypal, Venmo, Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo Answers, and Livejournal.

1. Remove sex workers. Ban any sex work of any kind, deplatform, keep any money you may have been holding.

2. Remove pedophilia. This is where the jump begins between content depicting real people vs content depicting fictional characters begins.

3. Remove all sexual image content, including artwork of fictional characters.

4. Remove all sexual content, including written works. If needed, loop back to step 2 as a justification, and claim you do not have the moderators to prevent written works depicting children.

I would like to reiterate these are actual gameplans, so much so that they’ve made their way into business textbooks. (Or at least they did for my Modern Marketing & App Design classes back in the early 2010s. Venmo, of course, wasn’t mentioned, but I did read the shareholder’s speeches when they banned sex workers from the platform so I added them in the list above because it seems they’re following the same pattern.)

So you have two groups who are actively seeking to remove NSFW content from the site.

A) Corporate shareholders

B) People are upset they’re seeing NSFW content they didn’t seek out and squicks them

Now, why does this matter for the debates using the term “puritan” as an insult? 

Because the reasons corporate shareholders hate NSFW material is founded in American puritanism. It’s a really interesting conflation of private sector values! And if Wall Street were in another cultural context, it would be a completely different discussion which I find fascinating!

But here’s the rub- that second group? They're not doing this for money. If there are any puritanical drives, it’s personal, not a widespread cohesive ideology driving them. HOWEVER! The section of that group that spent the early 2010s on tumblr did pick up some of the same rhetoric as puritanical talking points (which is an entirely separate discussion involving radfems, 4chan raids, fourth wave feminism, and a huge very nuanced set of influences I would love to talk about at a later time!)

These are largely fans who have “grown up” in the modern sites- no matter how old they actually are, their fandom habits and expectations have been shaped by the algorithms of these modern sites.

Now HERE‘s the fascinating bit that’s new to me! This is the interpretation of the data I’m getting, and so I’m out on a limb but I think this is a valid premise!

The major conflict in fandom at this time is a struggle over personal space online.

Content creators are getting messages telling them to stop, degrading them, following them from platform to platform.

They say “Hey! What gives- we were here first. The cardinal rule of fandom is don’t like, don’t read. Fandom space has always been understood to be adult- it’s been this way for decades! To find our content, you had to come to us! This is our space! This is my space, this is my blog! If you don’t like it, you’re not obligated to look!”

Meanwhile, at the exact same time, antis are saying “Hey! What gives- this content is appearing on my screen! That’s my space!  I didn’t agree to this, I don’t like this! I want it to be as far away from me as possible! I will actively drive it away.”

This is a major cultural shift! This is a huge change and a huge source of friction! And I directly credit it to the concept of “content stream” and algorithms driving similar-content to users despite them not wanting it!

Curating your online space used to be much simpler, because there wasn’t much of it! Now with millions of users spread out over a wide age range, all feeding in to the same 4-5 websites, we are seeing people be cramped in a technically limitless space!

Now people feel that they have to go on the offense to defend themselves against content they don’t like, which is predicated upon not only the algorithms of modern websites but ALSO talking points fed from the top down of what is and what is not acceptable on various platforms.

Time: 2010-2020. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing,and people using it to describe others. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? Depends!

So I, a fandom ancient, a creaky thing of old HTML codes and broken tags, am watching this transformation and am wildly curious for data.

My Experiences With The Fictionkin Community

Well, I made this account mainly to post about this. It needs to be said, I haven’t seen anyone publicly talk about this.

Before I start this, no this is not meant to be an attack on people who are Fictionkin. If you are Fictionkin, I do not care. However, I still think that the community is complete garbage. I wish I could say a small percent of Fictkins are toxic, but at this point it’s the majority.

Please read this whole post before reblogging or responding. I will not be naming any names or giving specifics of situations. 

Why do I think the community is toxic? Well, I have a lot of reasons. I’ve met many manipulative and awful people in the community as well as I’ve heard stories from friends.

1. It is almost impossible to talk to anyone in Discord servers without risking someone getting offended or upset.  These servers often have blacklists which can be added onto by users, no issue with blacklists. What’s the problem though? People blacklist things that make them uncomfortable or cause small amounts of anxiety. Blacklists shouldn’t be used for things that cause small amounts of anxiety. This results in blacklists being miles long and extremely specific. I’ve seen characters, colors, TV shows, and things you wouldn’t expect to be on one. I understand blacklisting things, I’ve had mental breakdowns over certain things. But if a blacklist is pages long, I’m not going to want to talk in there. I’ve seen people get upset at someone for triggering them despite them not blacklisting it.  Additionally, blacklists are either followed to the tea or not followed at all. I’ve seen moderators not give a shit about people talking about triggers openly without censoring them.  I once stated a fact on how people can easily be accused of something they didn’t do. I got banned. Why? Apparently I was attacking them. Cool. 

2. Speaking of moderators, they pick favorites.  If any drama happens, you better hope the moderators like you or you’re getting banned. In fact, if people in these servers don’t like you, hope you like being ignored and/or banned easily. This has happened to me in more than one instance. Moderators ban people that they don’t like if they have the smallest reason to. How do you get them to not like you? Well, if you’re not 100% positive all the time or have slightly differing opinions, they’re not going to like you. If you don’t agree with their opinions you’re seen as problematic. 

3. Pointless drama is pointless Every server I have been in has had drama. And as mentioned before, whichever person the mods like more doesn’t get banned. People act completely immature during these and will result in just insulting the other person. Drama is usually started over something completely stupid. You say something slightly controversial and drama is going to start. 

 3.5 No, that person wasn’t being racist/transphobic/homophobic/etc. The fact that I’ve seen people get banned from servers for apparently being “racist” is insane. One of my friends said they were white, and they were called racist for some reason and banned. Yes I’m serious. In one case, someone said they were Asian and they got banned. For what you ask? Oh, because apparently Asian’s are “dog eaters” and that person likes dogs so Asians are problematic. I’ve seen people get called racists over the smallest of things like hairstyles. If you agree with the “problematic” person you bet you’re getting banned too. 

4. No problematic kinnies uwu Ah yes, “problematic” kins. The “you’re not allowed here because you kin a fictional killer”. I find the whole concept completely dumb. If you kin a killer, that does not make you a killer. Also, apparently some murderer kins are problematic but some aren’t. I’ve seen someone kin a murderer, get called problematic, and another person who also kinned a murderer not get called problematic. Scar from the Lion King? Nah, he’s fine. Killing your brother and attempting to kill a child isn’t bad in the slightest. 

5. The word “kinnies” is not a slur.  Do not call this a slur. Fictkins are not oppressed. Slurs and insults are not the same. I know most believe it’s not a slur, but some do and that’s too many. 

6. Being an ass is fine as long as you have a mental illness! I’ve seen moderators excuse toxic and manipulative behavior because oh the person has a mental disorder. It’s not an excuse to be an asshole. Before you say anything, yes I struggle with mental illness. Yes I’ve almost snapped at people. But, I don’t. I’ve worked on myself to not be aggressive. People have started drama with others and went and vented about their personal issues and have gotten pity for it. All of their shitty behaviors were excused because they were sad. Do not enable people to be assholes. This may sound shitty to say, but having that mentality is harmful. 

7. Age range Fictkins tend to be 13-18. Which means the whole community is stuck in a teenage mindset. Even the 20+ people I’ve met act like teens. I don’t like teens now, why would I want to be in a community where everyone acts like one? It’s near impossible to have a conversation with these people and be civil. 

8. No DoUbLes “No doubles” AKA, you cannot be here if you kin the same character as me. People are going to kin the same characters as you.  I once saw someone join a server that had their kin on the list. Once that person left, the person who put that kin on the list started calling them names and being an ass (they were a moderator). Imagine if Therians or Otherkin were like that. Sorry cat Therians, I’m the only cat allowed here. 

Overall Thoughts The Fictionkin community is awful. I’ve seen enough things to make me want to not associate myself with anyone from it. Not every Fictkin person is like this. I am aware of that. But when I’ve seen so much shit from this community I don’t want to trust anyone from it. I’ve trusted the wrong people. I’ve felt more welcomed in the Therian community and don’t feel like I have to worry about pissing someone off.  I’m interested to know anyone else’s experiences with this community. I'm a (hopefully) first time admin and I've got everything ready to go and set up but I'm really nervous that it won't get off the ground, and you guys have been open for so long do you have any tips for me how to make my RP be as successful as yours? It looks like such a good place, I hope it's not weird to ask this

        hi there friend,  thank-you so much for your compliments, and don’t stress… i’m happy to offer some advice, i’m no expert whatsoever but i’ve run a few roleplays over the past decade or so.    the key note firstly is to think of your RP as your kind of group ersatz family, as the admin you’re the head of that family.   you keep everyone on course, you’re the gatekeeper and it’s your standards that set the tone for what happens in your family’s house.  and i first want to tell you honestly that it is a little bit of a responsibility; you have to be willing to sort out problems, make decisions, mediate, diffuse and sometimes be on the receiving end of anon hate or the occasional jaded RPer, you have to be motivated and encouraging and dedicated -  but if you are, the people who you write and create with will give it back to you tenfold & it will never become a drag.    i hope this helps you a bit!

decide if you want a co-admin or you think you can handle it yourself - i personally have done solo-adminning, lead admin with moderators & co-adminned with up to four people. though i’ve found that, if you want to work with a team of mods/admins, having an odd number can be really helpful as you’re never tied.  also, if you decide to bring in a co-admin or moderator, have a clear idea of how you want to operate as a roleplay and what you expect of them as admins, and whether or not they have an equal say as you, the creator of the roleplay.  if they do, make that clear and if they don’t, make it clear what things you need to have a look over and what things they are able to handle alone (i.e. asks, applications, major plot changes).   honestly, the worst thing that can happen is if you’re not on the same page because it confuses you, them and your muns.

don’t jump the gun, patience is key.  if you’re hoping to have a long running roleplay then i would expect at least a month of work to be put into it before it’s trotted out, but it sounds like you’re already ready to go. make sure, before you open for activity, you have enough muns & characters to get the roleplay off to a healthy start and have the dash reasonably active.

set rules that are clear, but don’t be a dictator - make sure you have expressed clearly what your rules of conduct are (such as dash conduct, mun age restrictions [if any], activity standards, god-modding, banned/acceptable faceclaims, etc.)

set up an ads blog, and queue ads to post semi-regularly with varied but relevant tags and an eye-catching graphic &/or summary of your roleplay

set up a discord server or another way for your muns to communicate and plot OOC, it really helps muse and communication and also can be a fantastic way to build plots with existing characters and muns.  and, lets be honest, it’s nice to be able to chat with the folks you’re writing with.

check in with everyone! make sure your muns are comfortable and happy and no one is falling by the wayside or being left out. also, it’s nice to make sure that your muns are alright personally - by no means pry, but be an open ear if someone needs to talk. you’d be surprised how many in the RPC are often too shy or anxious to admit to an admin that they need time for their mental health, work, study, etc. but if you make it clear from the beginning that you actually do care and are willing to help work with people it makes all the difference.

the most important to me: build rapport!!!   the best thing for your roleplay, as an admin, is to do your absolute best to be approachable and have a relationship with your muns. you obviously don’t have to be best friends with everyone and talk every day, but believe me, what makes a roleplay last is the community you build behind it. i love having made such talented and varied friends in ironforged - we have voice chats and some of us facetime and/or text, we watch tv shows together and even help each other out with anything from personal problems to university assignments.  our community is  what helps us withstand all the trials and tribulations, and it’s what has given our roleplay such fantastic plot drops and progressions.  the main point is, from the get-go, make sure your muns know that your DMs are always open if they have questions, queries, rants, concerns, ideas… all of the above.

trigger warnings, which obviously depends on the genre you’re in but, i personally would suggest to offer your muns the ability to tell you what their triggers are privately and list them somewhere on the main blog for the other members to see.

embrace being an admin, and don’t get walked over. don’t forget that this is your roleplay, you created it and put the work in and no one (anon or not) can tell you how to run it. don’t be scared to call out people for breaking the rules, don’t be scared to issue warnings, don’t be scared to reject people if they haven’t read the rules or aren’t the right fit for your roleplay or make you uncomfortable, don’t be scared to say no.  it’s okay!

have open eyes, ears and mind; listen to feedback and concerns, hear out grievances and be willing to be polite even if people are being rude but don’t entertain pointless anon hate. speaking of anon hate… don’t turn off the anon ask option unless you honestly feel like it is the right route for you - it shuts off the ability for people to contact you whilst maintaining some anonymity and privacy, which can be discouraging.

crucial to any roleplay is the world-building, have a page with some key locations that are applicable to your roleplay (such as cafes, taverns, gyms, shops, housing locations), also i’ve honestly found that it helps setting the scene. consider where your roleplay is located (real place/fictional place) and make those details clear. paint the picture, immersion is a fantastic thing and it’s something both you and your muns can work on and collaborate on in the future. we have an inspo blog, pinterest boards, spotify playlists, youtube playlist, ambiance playlists, regional locations and business…. and a very colourful NPC list that has been collaborated and expanded upon throughout the life of ironforged.

have clear direction and at minimum a loose idea of where you want to go with your roleplay.  even if you don’t want to have a very plot driven roleplay (like ours is with plot drops, random events, character/mun interwoven plots - which requires a long-form type of roleplaying) and would rather have it open world (you set the scene, and everyone just goes with the flow - which can be both long or short form types of writing) - it is so important to have some tricks and surprises in your bag. the best and easiest is having a few muse-boosting tasks lined up, perhaps a group event to bring people together (a party, a fight, a ball, a wedding, etc.) otherwise, 8.5 times out of 10, you’ll find muse flatlining.  ask your muns! ask other rps! make a poll! hit up the RPC tags and roleplay helper blogs!

the finer details; pick a timezone to mark the roleplay with (eg; here i post in AEST on the roleplay because i am australian and it’s easy for me to queue and schedule things) but it’s crucial to ensure you include the timezone equivalent for other people in other timezones to be able to quickly understand (eg; AEST = GMT+10). you can always link an external timezone converter page if you’re unsure!

and, of course, be organised. make sure you have your pages set up and linked properly. the main that come to my mind to start off with are; navigation, plot, taken FCs, IC & OOC rules, a masterlist, blogroll/follow list, application/application page, application counts, ask & submit are open and an ooc page.

         and LASTLY,  this is my personal advice from one admin to another; if you really want a roleplay to work and you really want it to last for (hopefully) years, then you have to put some heart into it.  our roleplay, as a group, has seen some bad times and good times galore. we’ve had people become seriously ill, we’ve had engagements and weddings, graduations, a fair few birthdays, hospital trips/emergencies, international internships, personal problems, personal triumphs…  our communication as a roleplay isn’t always perfect, but we continue to do our best - and working on our communication is what allows us to keep going on through everything.

         also, as an admin, do your best to make sure you are not the most powerful character and not center of all the roleplays controversy, drama and plot drops (if applicable), it’s become a kiss of death cliche, and also can alienate potential muns because they feel like background players to your show.    but seriously, involve everyone and give a shout out for peoples interest, and the ideas that come flowing back from your muns will amaze you, trust me!

a prince’s challenge is to moderate the amount of destruction they cause to their aspect, using it like a chisel instead of a wrecking ball, so to speak. in the prince of time’s case, specifically, they would destroy the boring rhythm in someone’s life, bringing new and exciting things on the table. they’d definitely be the one coming up with random unplanned but still fun activities with their friend group. on a more serious note, however, they’d also be the friend that recognizes bad routines and addictions in their friends, and gets them the help they need.

a word of advice, though: not everything needs to be destroyed. not everyone wants to change. pick your battles and try again some other time. i know patience doesn’t come naturally to you, but it would help a lot if you developed some.
