and about the non-bts tag uhh I did think of doing that but i’d rather not, to be very honest with you. if I did that, I’d have to add that tag on a lot of my posts and even if I could do that for some time, I honestly don’t think I’d be able carry it on for a long while (aka I think it would start to bother me eventually). that’s why I decided to put “multi” in my description, so that people know I won’t be reblogging bts only. also, I tag every single post with the group name, so that people can filter that tag if they don’t want to see that content. so yeah, I do get where you’re coming from, but I would prefer it if you could just filter the tags of the groups you don’t want to see on your dash…

#I really do think people just filtering tags of the groups I reblog is the best solution #it’s really quick and you only have to do it once #then it’ll never bother you again #but if I had the non bts tag I’d have to use if every single time.. #I hope you understand my point there hehe #but thank you for your ask and for being so polite. Do you have any ideas about how the heck those of us more familiar with AO3 etiquette can get the word out regarding not posting "help me find this fic" fics? There are a couple of fandoms I'm in (Boku no Hero Academia is the big one for me, but I've heard from others that the BTS fandom is also having a huge problem) where there has recently been a huge increase in this behavior (I assume from people coming over from Wattpad), and it's driving me crazy. If it was just one or two bad actors, that'd be one thing, but there's increasingly becoming this whole culture of people doing this, and then pointing to other people when you call them on it, saying "well LOTS of people do this, so it's fine!"

I've recently been going through and leaving a bunch of messages on "help me find this fic" fics that basically just say "Hey just FYI, AO3 works created solely for the purpose of searching for lost fanfics actually violate AO3’s terms of service. I’d recommend deleting this fic and posting this message on another site, such as Reddit, Tumblr, or Dreamwidth, or in a fandom Discord." Overall, most authors have gotten back with things along the line of "oh shit I had no idea", but today I received a message which said this:

I have read the official Terms of Service that we all click on the first time we visit. Didn't find the clause you are referencing. You seem to use this tactic a lot. I have seen your other comments on other "searching fics". Very old ones I might add. Which means you purposefully go lookinng for these fics just so you can post your high and mighty FYI comment. However, if you are trying to bring up the single line under the FAQ page then you are speaking of the general request to use the search function. As I (and others) have stated we have attempted this and it didn't work. As a proper web searching tactic we are attempting to narrow the pool of places to search. We know what Fandom it is and where the work was originally located. Perhaps we do not have or use any of those other platforms for various reasons. You didn't stop to consider or offer those options in a friendly manner. You simply say "FYI, you are clogging up the system. Go away". A little tact would be appreciated. I would say this kind of commenting is considered hunting, not moderating. I am glad to see people are starting to consider spite writing chapters to their searching fics just so people like you can't post passive aggressive things like this.

Which... I don't even know where to start with that. Like, first off, "help me find this fic" works are basically the definition of disallowed ephemeral, non-fanwork content, which is pretty clearly banned, and in fact is one of the only things that is banned on AO3. Then there's the idea that tagging something with specific fandom tags and tropes when you're actually just searching for something with those tropes is a proper use of the tag function, rather than a flagrant abuse of it. Then there's the fact that this person seems to think it's fine to break AO3's rules for this just so long as they don't have other options (which, to be clear, they do!). And then finally there's the fact that apparently people are considering only posting "help me find this fic" posts as author notes attached to real fanworks, which... that would be fine??? I would literally not mind in the slightest if people started posting shitty fanfics just so that they could ask where other fanfic was using the author's notes function – shitty fanfics are still fanfics!

I just... maybe this is me being a huge get-off-my-lawn retrogrouch, but it really feels like AO3 is having a bit of an Endless September, and I think it would absolutely suck if this became normalized to the point that every tag search was turning up a bunch of "find my fic" posts that someone made like four years ago and then never took down because they didn't understand the difference between an archive and a feed. Am I crazy? AITA here? And what – if anything – can be done, so that younger fans aren't discouraged from contributing, but also actually learn the basic rules of the archive?

Can I archive nonfiction?

Fannish nonfiction, which includes what is called 'meta' by some fans, is allowed. Where we provide a specific function (search, bookmarking, challenges) we will ask you to use the specific methods we provide for those activities rather than create separate works. So, for example, a request for recommendations for particular kinds of fanworks would not be an appropriate work. That search should be carried out by searching works and/or bookmarks. A list of recommended works on a particular topic would also not be an appropriate work. Recommendations should be done by using our bookmarking function. A description of a challenge for other creators would also not be an appropriate work. That should be carried out by using our challenge function.

In addition, as an Archive whose goal is preservation, we want permanent, nonephemeral content. To the extent that your content is designed to be ephemeral, such as liveblogging episode reactions, it should go on a journaling service and not the Archive.

No, you are not the asshole here. AO3's culture will change for the worse if we don't make some effort to let new people know how we do things.

Practical Tips on getting your fics out there!

I’ve gotten an influx of these types of questions here recently, and the more i thought about what i was gonna add, it became really long :(  

disclaimer: a lot of the things i bring up are just from personal experience as a writer on this site, what my followers have told me they appreciate, and what i tend to look for when im looking for fics to read! If you don’t like these tips then pls move on :) 

although i’ll mention them, i’m also not going to be focusing on cliche tips like “write for yourself” or “grammar issues” cause those are pretty obvious!

1. accessibility of your blog 

when you’re trying to get your name out there, make sure that you’re creating an inviting experience for any potential followers! this includes:

a memorable url! be creative!

have some fun designing your blog’s aesthetic! (i love cute blogs because it reflects a bit of the writer’s personality), and (i prefer blogs with white backgrounds because it’s easier to look through/read, say, in contrast to a pitch black one where the words need to be white!) 

put your masterlist link in your bio (even better if you can link most recent fic! found this most helpful when i revisit authors that i like and can easily see if they’ve updated or not)

an organized and easy-to-navigate masterlist (personally, i prefer masterlists organized by band, instead of types of fics ie. i hate when i have to choose between drabbles, oneshots, and series masterlists; i really prefer to see them altogether!) --> see section 3 

organized tags (if you’re going to be posting a lot of non-fic-related content like pictures or videos, tag them properly so followers can sort through and find your fics easily!), or (if you’re going to be writing in different mediums like drabbles, or answering asks, make sure to use a unified #mine or #writing or #fics to centralize your content) 

2. get your name out there!

write write write! once you have some fics that show your talent, don’t be shy! 

join writing groups: when i first started out, I joined a bunch of groups that would reblog my fics in the midst of the content of much bigger writers; these blogs developed a following, and as a result of my content mixing in with bigger blogs’ content, so did my own tumblr! there’s been a stigma recently with these groups, but im sure you can find one thats supportive and not clique-y! 

send your fics to rec pages: what’s the harm? the only bad thing that can happen is that they ignore you! who cares! get out there! 

if you can do the above, i really encourage you to ask your fave writers for advice/to read your fic: again, the worst that can happen is that they say no or don’t respond or don’t have enough time, but it’ll be a good opportunity to get some feedback! i for one read (or try to read) every single rec that falls into my inbox. if i like it, i’ll #rec it, and if i don’t, unless the writer asks me for feedback, i move on!! 

utilize your tags!!: i’m not entirely sure if this is still the same or not, but from my memory, it’s the first 3-5 tags that matter the most? so utilize them well; push back the tags that aren’t really relevant (ie. #writing, #fics) and push more the main subject line of what you wrote (ie. jungkook fluff, bts smut, namjoon angst). these will populate your fics into the tags better!

headers!: when i’m scrolling through an infinite page of fics, the headers catch my eye the most; try being creative! you can find a lot of info out there on how to make ur headers super aesthetic, but i can share my tips too! --> see section 3

3. your masterlist 

here are some practical tips! 

organize by band, not type of fic/member/centralize your masterlist: i went onto a blog recently and clicked their bio mlist link to find a page full of 20~ish “JUNGKOOK MASTERLIST”/ “JAEHYUN MASTERLIST” and when i clicked on each one, they only had like 2 or 3 fics per member. i think it would’ve been better if she’d centralized all her fics! that keeps whoever is looking interested and more likely to click on another fic while browsing

add info about the fics!: when scrolling through a masterlist, it’s easy to get lost; try to add some snippets of info (ie. a short sentence you liked from the fic, a quick summary, a description of the au/scenario, or even a header!) this all gives some info about the fics you have tagged! 

headers: this isn’t a requirement, but i personally love a good header on fics i read and i love making them myself as i finish up a fic and get ready to upload it; here are free sources: unsplash for HQ stock pics, crop/edit/filter in VSCO, and then add aesthetic script with fontcandy) 

try to fill it up!: after i visit a blog after reading one good fic, i usually browse through their mlist to see if there are any more that i’d be interested in. if there’s a lot to look forward to, i’ll almost always follow; try to write as much as you can in the first few months to try and fill up your mlist and give blog viewers a reason to visit your blog again, follow, or even reblog your content!) 

4. try not to reproduce cliche fics: 

honestly tumblr’s writing community (and armys) has grown insanely these past few years and, unfortunately, even from my perspective, in the past 3-4 years, all the writers have sort of become blended together in my brain. but, i can say that the ones who consistently stand out are the ones who produce consistent content and think outside of the box! 

i tend to gravitate towards fics that have really interesting plotlines (ex. btssavedmylifeblr’s VOID is always a surprise to read because it’s sO unique! i usually don’t read ot7 fics but this one is legit my fave) 

I know it’s tempting to try and just write typical smut fics to try and gain some traction, but tumblr is already too overloaded by that kind of content; try to write something that’s special and unique! this will set u apart from the thousands of other writers here --> see next section

5. create unique fics: 

this is also personal to my writing style, but i get so bored writing just casual fics about the members, and it affects the fics i choose to read too; i prefer unique fics which you can achieve through: 

circumstance/au: create a fun au!; don’t just create an arranged marriage, create an arranged marriage in joseon dynasty, or between a werewolf and a hunter! (shameless self plug); don’t just give me friends to lovers, but give me spiderman!jungkook friends to lovers! (ie. cupofteaguk’s exchanges)

jobs: give them out-of-the-ordinary jobs; don’t just give me enemies to lovers, but give me rival!anchors who end up loving eachother! (ie. jimlingss The Newscasters)

fun dialogue: create good back-and-forth, (something i’m still working on!)! this will help your characters develop personality, and that way, readers will start to develop that themselves as well (ie. dad!yoongi from insemination wars by prolixitae is such a specific character that i love so much!, or obiwrites’ garden characters were so memorable!)

create memorable personalities: don’t give me a flat character, try to develop 4d personalities in all of your characters! (im still working on this too!) this way you can really make an impression on your followers! a great way to practice/recognize this is: “Ask my Character.” Can your followers ask a specific character a specific question, and would you be able to deliver an answer that is very specific to that character’s tone/voice/personality? If yes, then ur doing well! If not, try to think of ways that you can make tht specific character from a specific story, really unique and separate from your other characters.

6. some practical writing tips

be yourself, write for your own pleasure, blah blah blah; yeah you know already haha but here are a few more practical tips! 

grammar check: if you can, try and hone your grammar! makes for an easier read 

write like you: i personally LOVE this by obiwrites, but even the way she writes exudes her personality and is so specific; try not to be caught up in adding hundreds of synonyms and exquisite language; in fact, simpling it down and being more concise and honest with your writing is better than a superfluous sentence; this will also give ur characters so much more dimension and funk

use those commas/sentence variation: try to use more commas; this will feel like you’re the narrator to your own story; it also makes it more fluid to read in my opinion, over those short. clipped. sentences. (ie. “he came over, sitting down on the corner of your bed with an expression you’d never seen before” over “he walked over. he sat down, looking sad.”) 

half-half dialogue/narration: a fic with too much dialogue can get confusing, and a fic with too much narration can get dry; try to balance them out, and weave in and out of each! 

quality over quantity: don’t feel burdened to write a 30k word fic. in fact, i think some of the shorter fics (ie. any of versigny’s stuff) made a bigger impression on me over the longer fics because they were short, left me wanting more, and were just so high-quality in such small quantities. try out your hand at drabbles and one-shots, and don’t feel too burdened to try and develop a series right off the bat! 

abandon pigeon-holes: i’m guilty of this; i start series and then end up with no vision for the stories and they end up giving me writers block. its okay. just stop or discontinue them or leave them on a hiatus; it’s okay. your priority is yourself, and if abandoning certain works are part of that, then go ahead. it’ll help you progress more.

At the end of the day, I’m pretty happy with Youtube Music. Apple Music probably knows me best because it’s been tracking me for the longest and has the widest variety of my tastes, but it’s an additional expense that I don’t feel like paying. Spotify seems to have figured out my currently musical taste very quickly and honestly I would probably stick with them if 1) the app functioned better and 2) it wasn’t for the extra cost. Youtube Music actually works miles better than Spotify and Apple Music and since I already pay for Youtube Premium it’s included. So I’m gonna spend more time fine tuning the algorithm to stop giving me the WHY R U? OST already!!! Also since I’ve been writing this final though summary, Youtube has given me the auditory delight of SIZZY X NANON’s Plean Ka Nan Pen Fan Dai Mai (Love Score) which is just *chefs kiss*.

I tried really hard last year to edit Something Blue to bring it up to where my writing is now, but couldn’t get through it. Learned my lesson in letting things be. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: Real (ao3 / tumblr), which is Shigezane/[named] MC. Another one I feel compelled to edit, because I would change a lot about it if I were writing it today. But I also cherish it for what it is.

Favorite Story You Wrote: Oooooh! Hard! I think from last year that is Frost-Edged Fire, a “what happened” story for Sansa post-GoT. I like the way it reads, it felt good to make, and the response has been positive somewhere where I didn’t have my name to stand on, so I feel very satisfied with that one. I also really like one of the pieces I wrote for an Arcana zine coming out this year. :)

Story You Were Nervous to Post: I swing back and forth between “what happens, happens, I’ve written what I felt l needed to” and “PLEASE LET PEOPLE NOT HATE THIS sob sob sob”. I remember when I was working on Real I was trying to let go of some of my own standards for MAKE IT MAKE SENSE BACK FIVE GENERATIONS, so I was scared people would pick it apart even though it was such a soft, smooshy story and such a soft, smooshy thing to write. It still makes me feel vulnerable! I had my first run in with an anti in 2018 and for a while that shook me. I didn’t change what I wrote after that, but the experience was so jarring and gross I was tense.

How You Choose Your Titles: I like sideways titles, in the way of allusions and references. I usually choose single words that are either meant to encapsulate the tone or primary action of a story, or a word or short snip from a phrase, which I hope a reader will read in full in their head even though part of it isn’t there. But I understand that once something is out there, it’s really up to the reader to make of text and title what they will! Completed: I have no idea. The pseu slings bump the number way up, it’s probably around 150 total? For non-snippets, around 50? (Ao3 has 53 works, some of which have multiple sections)

Incomplete: I have an idea, and it is mortifying. There are some things I’ve written a little bit for but I know I won’t go back to and sometimes I think about putting them up as free prompts for others. Things I’m really trying on? 7. Do You Outline? Sorta! I start with the scene or scenes that motivate me to write in the first place, and then I have to outline to connect them. They are not usually the beginning or end because life is not fair and those parts are really hard.

Do You Accept Prompts? Sometimes! I love doing pseu slings twice a year (once in March and the other later in the year for a follower milestone or something). tbh it can be incredibly freeing, motivating, and feel-goody to write what I know someone has asked for-- connecting to requests and filling them feels wonderful and I have less time to dither or gather rosebuds or whatever, so it’s productive. I think some of my best work is writing that others have requested.

What do you use to edit?: Just me! I’m not flawless, but I trust myself more than any automatic service. I consciously choose to ignore several best practices when writing anyway. When I’m not as confident as I would like to be about something new, I may ask someone I trust in fandom to look it over as a one-time thing.

Writing setup: This is my desk right now! That’s a draft of this post on my laptop screen.

I need silence and steady lighting to write, so I set up my ~space~ in our basement. Every lord of Kasugayama (even the lord of Kasugayama) had given her fine thread and cloth. It was Yoshimoto who made a quiet gift of needles before she could attempt to find them herself. They were in a slender little canister, painted blue and cream and gold, and when he placed it in her palm goosebumps bloomed over her arms and legs. One of his hands held hers from below and the other lingered on the other side of the needlecase, close enough for warmth, close enough that she felt like a carefully-captured butterfly. A part of her soul waited to be appraised and wished she had wings.

Fandom ABO ship stats--top 40

Well that’s a whole lotta numbers and four hours of my life I’m never getting back.

Like, I probably should be ashamed to say in front of god and everybody that I have an inexplicable fascination with A/B/O as a fandom phenomenon, but whatever. I’m in sexuality studies. I’ve had to explain what this trend is in front of three different discussion classes. I’m dead inside, nothing can touch me anymore, let’s analyze some data. 

Research question: What fandom has the highest internal ratio of abo fic to non-abo fic?

Methods: Thank the little fishes and every single AO3 tag wrangler who has ever categorized works under the tag “Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics.” Started there, used the first fic* to kick off the spreadsheet and test some formulas, went down the top listed fandoms** until I was ready to stop. I marked the top ship in each fandom tagged ABO and pulled four numbers from each fandom--the number of fics in the fandom, the number of fics for the top ship, the number of ABO fics for the fandom, and the number of ABO fics for the top ship. The hidden column is the number of ABO fics on AO3 total, so I could run calculations with it. 

Spreadsheet formulas let me calculate what percentage a fandom made up within the parent ABO tag (I), what percentage ABO tagged fics made up within a ship tag (K), what percentage ABO tagged fics made up within a fandom tag (M), and what percentage of the ABO tagged fics in a fandom tag were just the top ship (O). Highest percentages in each column are marked in bright yellow. Next four highest are marked in beige. 

*Kara/Lena, which is why that appears first on the list. It was also the 40th most popular fandom, so it made a nice bookend.

**Along the way I defaulted to the ‘all media types’ tag when available--MCU, Star Wars, Batman, etc, to try and cut down the reappearance of characters.

Analysis: Here we go. So, as you might expect given other top-heavy fandom trends, the top 5 fandoms made up the plurality of the ABO tag--33%. We get to 45% if we add the next 5 fandoms, and then every other fandom individually makes up less than 2% of the tag. 

Top 5 by number of fics in ABO tag: Supernatural (9.04%), MCU (7.5%), Teen Wolf (7.38%), BTS (6.83%), BNHA (4.16%). 

Being in the top 5 overall didn’t actually indicate anything towards the chances of high percentages in the other columns. Teen Wolf had the 5th highest density of ABO fics in their fandom; BTS had the 4th highest density of ABO fic in the top ship. That was it. 

Top 5 by ship ratio: Borderlands (11.08%), Men’s Football RPF (8.68%), Kuroko no Basuke (7.29%), BTS (6.83%), Supernatural RPF (6.26%).

According to Fanlore, SPN RPF is where ABO first appeared. It made a good showing, top 5 in 3 of 4, but Borderlands, weirdly enough, smoked it in two of those--that had a higher ship ratio and single-ship density, if not higher ABO ratio as a fandom whole. This was also the first time I’d heard about either Men’s football rpf or KnB--it seems like ABO can be ship-driven OR fandom-driven. Or both. 

Top 5 by ABO fics in fandom density: Yuri!! on Ice (5.4%), Hannibal (5.35%), SPN RPF (5.2%), Borderlands (5.17%), Teen Wolf (4.37%). 

Yuri!! on Ice is the answer to my original ratio question, at least until I get more data. Also surprising! Hannibal was interesting--that also had strong fandom cohesion, coming in second there too. Also if someone publishes like....5 more Borderlands ABO fics they might push it into second place, the percentages are very tight.

Top 5 by percentage of fics for the top ship in their fandom ABO tag: Borderlands (88.65% Jack/Rhys), Hannibal (88.14% Will/Hannibal), SPN RPF (83.28% Jensen/Jared), The 100 (78.27% Clarke/Lexa), Stranger Things (76.92% Steve/Billy). 

Good for the 100, which had one of two F/F ships and one of three ships to feature female characters in the top 40. This was also probably the category where the percentage bounced all over the place most.

I guess people are having fun????

not really that....big of a fandom trend, honestly. never more than 5.5% of published fic in a fandom. I guess the big fandoms inflate the numbers. 

There’s this weird drop for the number of actual fics, where it goes down steadily till about 1000 and then drops to under 700 all of a sudden.

Edited to add: an actual conclusion! Lotta fetishisizing Asian men around these parts. That’s not great.

Jin squared his eyes with mine, cocking a single brow as he scanned me. It was clear from the set of his jaw that he wasn’t convinced, and when he crossed his arms and leaned back a half-step I knew I’d have more convincing to do. Jungkook simply stared slack-jawed, looking not quite at me but through me at something else, and the only tell that he was even breathing was the arhythmic rise and fall of his chest.

I sighed, leaning over my lap to untie my ankles and rubbed those too. “Did you hear me?” I asked, meeting Seokjin’s eyes as I bent at the waist.

He cleared his throat and nodded. “Heard it,” he said, then cocked his head to the side. “Didn’t believe it though.”

With a nod, I pushed myself to my unsteady feet, using the back of the chair to keep me stable and upright. “I get it,” I said, eyeing him. “Since I’m friends with Taehyung.”

Seokjin shrugged. “Well, yeah,” he said.

I glanced at Yoongi, still focused on his laptop, and realized twice over that he really wasn’t concerned about Seokjin. Whether this was due to Jin’s obvious naivety or his usually gentle temperament, I wasn’t sure. But I knew that the immediate danger wasn’t in front of me.

And that meant that, after all, I could become the danger if I wanted.

I coughed a little, rubbing my sore cheek. “He screwed me over.”

“How?” asked Seokjin.

Jungkook, scanning me, stepped forward. “At the charity event,” he offered, eyeing me like he was uncertain about whether or not to proceed. I simply nodded. “He used her to get to me.”

“And you used her to get to him, so what’s the point?” Seokjin asked with a scowl. “Listen, sweetie, if you’re gonna go after every person who’s used you you’re gonna have a long list. Even just people in this building.”

I shook my head. “It’s different,” I said, letting just a fraction of my real hurt leak into my voice, threading through my words like veins. “Because he was the one who wasn’t supposed to betray me.” I lifted my eyes severely, meeting Jin’s and not so much as blinking as he thought.

I set my jaw, clenched my lips shut, and watched him, crossing my arms and trying to impart every ounce of sincerity I had into my gaze alone. Seokjin’s furrowed brows relaxed by fractions as the seconds ticked on in silence. Jungkook, standing beside him, wouldn’t look away from me. I wasn’t yet sure what I’d do about him. Recruiting him was likely out of the question for many reasons, but did I have to deceive him?

Could I not try to rely on him just a little?

I swallowed hard. Of course not. He’d lied to me from the beginning, and only when he’d been caught did he begin begging for a chance to explain himself. Seeing him now, despite knowing all this, my heart felt like something was squeezing it from the inside. And that alone was enough to convince me not to tell him the truth. Not for now, at least.

At least…that’s what I told myself.

Seokjin finally yielded with a sigh and let his head dangle a little, rubbing the back of his neck. “Alright,” he said.

Jungkook’s back went stiff and he looked towards his roommate. “Wait, really?” he asked.

Seokjin nodded with a shrug and held out his hand to me. “If I find out you’re double-crossing me, I’ll kill you,” he said, without even a microscopic change in his expression.

A chill crept up my spine because I knew he meant it. It wasn’t worth it. Not really. Nara was smart and could easily get a better job on her own. Not to mention she was working on her major anyway. Only a few more years of shitty work until she could find herself some gainful employment. It was a massive risk to sabotage a gang leader’s master plan, and the reward was comparatively small. I loved Nara with my whole heart, but not to the point of foolishness.

Still, I reached out my hand and clenched Seokjin’s, shaking it twice.

Because I’d realized something as he’d evaluated me like a specimen under a microscope. Maybe I’d realized it a long time ago, when I’d first discovered his involvement at the boys’ apartment.

I wasn’t just doing this for Nara. Not really, anyway. Perhaps it had never really been about her at all.

Looking into his calculating, dark eyes, my head aching with each heartbeat from where it had struck the wall, I felt the inescapable urge to ruin him.

Jungkook spun me around by the crook of my elbow and I turned to face him. It had been about an hour since Seokjin had beckoned me toward the front of the warehouse and down some stairs into a quiet basement, lavishly furnished despite the ground floor’s relative squalor. We’d discussed the particulars of my involvement and — perhaps luckily for me — because of the nature of the business, no contracts were required on either end. Just a handshake and a threat.

But rage had been wakening in me for a while now, and I’d finally given the flames the air they needed to breathe and grow.

Jungkook and I now faced each other with equally wide eyes in the dark night, my body sore and my eyes dry from the lack of sleep. I was sure I looked a mess, and the vain part of me longed to adjust my appearance, splash some water on my dirty face, clean the crusted blood off my knees. But Jungkook and I were past that now, weren’t we? Past the formalities of ego and image.

He sighed and scanned me. “You going to the station like that?” he asked, like he’d read my mind.

I swallowed hard and shrugged. “I guess,” I said, glancing down at my phone, which Seokjin had so graciously returned to me during our tense meeting, and sighed at the time. “Might have to call a taxi instead.”

Jungkook sighed and, without a word, simply let his hand slip into mine and led the way down the unkempt street toward his car, parked by the curb. “Jungkook, I can get home myself-,”

“I know,” he said, eyeing me over his shoulder. “But I’m feeling crazy right now, so I’m not doing it for you.”

I felt flush, and not wanting to risk speaking again and revealing my lingering feelings, I simply sighed and shrugged as he opened the passenger door for me. I ducked inside the car and eased back against the car’s upholstery. So familiar. Even his car smelled like him. Sweet, slightly fruity. Shampoo?

He opened the door and started the engine right away, cranking the heat and turning all the vents toward me. He gripped the steering wheel with both hands, eyes forward. I noticed he was a little sallow, eyes dull and shoulders slumped with fatigue. I opened my mouth to ask if he’d been sleeping, but shut it just as quickly and glanced out the window to my side, sighing into the glass and fogging the cityscape like a vignette.

“I could kill him,” said Jungkook, knuckles bone-white.

I eyed him, but he wouldn’t look my way. “Huh?” I asked.

“Seokjin.”

I set my lips thin and glanced down at my lap, lacing and unlacing my fingers. “Don’t do that,” I said.

He clenched his jaw, his bone straining against the skin. My heart kicked up. “He shouldn’t have touched you.”

“Would you be saying that if it was anyone else?” I asked, but cursed myself for sounding so interested, so probing. I sighed and rubbed my chilly thighs. May as well push while I’m at it. “If it was another innocent person.”

“We don’t deal with innocent people,” he said, shaking his head.

I hummed. “You sure?”

“Why are you doing this?” he asked, like the tension had finally become to much and he’d snapped. He slid his dark eyes toward me and a chill ran through me. Not the bad kind, but the kind I didn’t hate all the way. I swallowed and averted my eyes. “You don’t approve of any of this. I know you didn’t have a change of heart.”

I shrugged. “Like I said, Taehyung hurt me. In a different way than you did,” I said, then sighed. “Maybe it’s worse because it’s him.”

“Why…?” asked Jungkook, voice softer now as he turned on the radio to play gently in the dark cab of the car.

“Because he’s been watching me for two years,” I said, leaning my head back on the headrest. “Because he knows better than anyone that playing me is the worst thing he could’ve done.”

“You’re really mad?”

I nodded.

“Mad enough to ruin his relationship with one of his best friends?”

I set my lips thin and said nothing, just crossed my arms and glanced back out the fogged window.

He sighed. “Listen…you don’t have to tell me,” he said, and at this my body stiffened a little and I eyed him sidelong. He was still looking right ahead like he couldn’t bring himself to look my way. “I don’t have any right to press you to be honest with me.”

I watched my laps, legs shaking. Probably a delayed reaction to the adrenaline, or maybe the chill that even the heaters couldn’t fix. “You’re right,” I said.

He nodded. “I’m not telling you to tell me the truth just…tell me if you’re lying or not,” he said, glancing at me with knit brows and straight lips. “Because I can’t get my hopes up right now.”

Disarmed, I stared at him with wide eyes and parted lips. “I…”

He sighed and looked back toward the road. “I’m trying to be okay with never seeing you again. With you hating me forever,” he said, then shook his head and gripped the steering wheel tighter. “But with you here…is it wrong for me to hope that maybe you’re here for me? That you really left that Taehyung guy behind?”

I inhaled sharply, my heart racing and my skin hot. Such a direct question: it left me breathless. “I…I mean, I…”

“No, right?” he asked with a sigh. “I was stupid, huh? You’d never betray that guy.”

“Jungkook-,” I said, reaching out to grab his forearm but stopping a few centimeters away from his skin.

He noticed, glancing down at my outstretched fingers before meeting my eyes with a sad smile. “Don’t worry. I’m not gonna tell Jin. Or anyone, for that matter.” He clenched his jaw and shook his head. “After what he did tonight, I can’t trust him as far as I can throw him.”

“Really?” I asked, timid.

He glanced at me and nodded. “He knows how much I care about you. And he knows you’ve done nothing wrong to get mixed up in all this. How can I trust someone like that?”

“Do you wanna get out?” I asked, turned toward him halfway, imploring him with my gaze.

It was stupid. So stupid it was almost painful. But I longed more than anything else to have him as my ally again, to have someone as my ally. Someone who I trusted enough to share delicate information with, someone I knew would watch out for me no matter what.

No…

Not just someone, I longed for him.

His skin tinged pink and he cleared his throat, avoiding my eyes and watching the road. “After tonight?” he said, rubbing his neck with his right hand. “Yeah.”

“You mean it?”

“Mhm.”

“Jungkook…,” I began, finally grabbing on to his forearm and holding it tightly, trying desperately to impart even a fraction of my need into my fingertips. He jumped like he’d been shocked by an electric jolt and stared at me with round eyes. “Can I trust you?”

“I…of course,” he said, slowly guiding the car off to the curb, idling on the side of the road as he parked and turned to me properly. There was a severity in his eyes that caught me off guard. “I know my word doesn’t mean much to you, but I mean it with my whole entire body. I won’t ever do anything to hurt you ever again.”

Again…

I scowled. What a stupid qualifier. “You already know I’m not here to trade secrets with Kim Seokjin.”

Jungkook nodded, scanning me. “Yeah. Of course.”

“So there’s no use lying,” I said, rubbing my forehead. “Namjoon offered Nara a job at his company in exchange for proof of who’s been attacking him. I don’t know what he’ll do once he gets it. Suing, retaliation…I really don’t know what he’s capable of, but…”

“For Nara’s sake…?” asked Jungkook with furrowed brows.

I nodded. “Y-Yeah,” I said, but cursed the uncertain waver in my voice.

He cocked his head to the side and pursed his lips. “I was gonna scold you about being too kind, but that reaction was weird.”

I stiffened and glanced away, toward the dashboard, and shrugged. “I dunno what you’re talking about.”

He smirked and leaned toward me, eyeing me. “Y/N, are you looking to get revenge?” he asked.

I flushed and shoved him away, crossing my arms. “Forget I said anything. Just take me home and don’t bother me at the warehouse.”

He laughed and raised his brows. “Really? My Y/N, trying to get even with a shady dirty business leader?”

I pulled my knees to my chest, pouting, and looked away. “Seriously, just drop it.”

He chuckled once more and peered at me with a knowing smile. “Huh,” he said, nodding once. “Seems there are still things I don’t know about you.”

“Of course there are,” I said, sighing. “We were only dating for a few months and it was fake.”

He cleared his throat. “Well…uh…Jin and Yoongi did some background digging on you, so…I know quite a bit, actually. Like, interests and stuff.”

I turned to him, cheeks flaring, and smacked his knee. “What? You guys collected data on me?”

He laughed, nodding. “Yeah! What’d you expect?”

I flushed and crossed my arms again, sulking in my seat as Jungkook eased the car back into the light flow of traffic. “Whatever.”

“I’ll help.”

I sat up straight and stared at him in profile. “What?” I asked, searching his features for any indication of insincerity.

I found only a gentle smile and eyes focused on the road. “Yeah,” he said with a shrug. “Tonight kinda helped me realize that this business isn’t for me. You’d think after everything else, I’d have realized it but…seeing you get hurt…I dunno, it crossed a line for me.”

“It did?”

“Yeah.”

I swallowed hard and stared at him. Wasn't it okay to trust him a little bit? Even though I knew it might bite me, even though I figured it was probably a mistake…wasn’t it okay? He seemed so genuine, smiling and tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, humming along to the pop song on the quiet radio.

“How’d you know to go to the warehouse?” I asked, settling back into my seat with a sigh.

He hummed. “Common sense.”

“So you knew he was keeping me hostage?”

Jungkook shook his head. “He told me today and tried to justify it, but right away I knew it wasn’t okay. I wanted to go to you immediately, but he held me back and we fought a little,” he said, pulling down the collar of his shirt to reveal a myriad of fresh bruises blooming on his skin from his neck down his chest. The closer I looked, the more I realized he was littered with bruises, even on his face. “After a while, he decided he needed to restrain me so he put me in the bathroom at the apartment.”

“He locked you up?!” I asked, shocked.

He laughed and nodded. “Yeah. I guess he was gonna try and use me as bait to extort you for information, and if I came blazing in he knew I’d ruin it.”

“So he locked you in the bathroom?” I shook my head and covered my lips with my fingers.

He smirked at me and shrugged. “After about an hour of trying to find another way out, I eventually just broke down the door,” he said, like it was nothing.

“Jungkook!” I shouted, gaping.

“What? I wasn’t just gonna leave you there!” he yelled back, but he was playful while I was horrified.

“Your landlord’s gonna kill you,” I mumbled, rubbing my jaw.

He smiled. “It was worth it.”

“Hm?”

He chuckled and I noticed that warm blush in his cheeks. “Because I’m here with you now.”

My heart leapt and my stomach dropped like I’d crested the top of a very big hill on a very fast rollercoaster. I swallowed hard and played with my hands, rubbing the palms together and twirling them over one another, trying to ignore the heat in my cheeks.

“It…it’s not wrong…,” I murmured, watching my hands as I smoothed the palms against my thighs, avoiding looking directly at Jungkook.

I saw him glance at me out of my peripheral. “Hm?” he asked.

“For you to hope a little,” I said, glancing up at him almost like a nervous kid. His eyes were wide, lips parted, irises flashing back and forth between my own. I chewed on my cheek and let my gaze drop once more to my lap. “It’s not wrong.”

A quiet enveloped us that I couldn’t quite describe. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything more, having thoroughly embarrassed myself and wiped out my burgeoning street credit in one fell swoop.

But eventually, I heard him release a few breathy chuckles and watched as he lifted his hand to rub the back of his neck, exhaling with a smile. His eyes darted around, not looking at one thing out the windshield too long, and his smile was unwavering, cute front teeth visible.

“Ah,” he said finally with a nod, not looking my way. “Alright then.”

“You’re going to what?!”

I shrugged and stirred my tea with the small spoon Mr. Kim had slid to me with the platter. “I’m gonna get evidence of Seokjin’s involvement and ruin his life.”

Nara sputtered a cough and widened her eyes at me. “Y-You-you can’t just, like, do that!” she said, emphatic as she waved her hands around.

I eyed her. Her complexion was brighter today, eyes clear and free of dark circles. “You’re sleeping better?” I asked.

She nodded. “Yeah, a little bit. For some reason, the boss stopped scheduling me for late shifts,” she said, spitting it out quickly like she was only saying it out of obligation to me. “Anyway, that’s not the point!” she groaned and gripped the bridge of her nose. Mr. Kim continued working without so much as a second glance our way. “The point is you shouldn’t be getting any more involved than you already are.”

“Regardless,” I said with a shrug. “There’s a benefit besides just personal vendetta.”

She opened one eye and peeked at me through her long lashes. “Hm?”

“How would you like to work for Ori Technologies?” I asked, seeing if she’d take the bait.

She hesitated for a moment, clenching and unclenching her jaw, and ran her fingers through her silver hair, the roots growing in black at the top. “I mean…in a perfect world, that’d be awesome.”

“And what if me doing this got you a job there?” I asked, lowering my voice so no eavesdroppers could catch my words.

She inhaled sharply and looked me dead in the eye. She scanned me, perhaps searching for something in my expression, but after a few moments she simply sighed and leaned back, crossing her arms over her chest with a scowl.

“I’d say thanks but no thanks,” she said, nodding her head. “I want it bad, but not at the expense of my best friend’s safety.”

I opened my mouth to rebut, but Mr. Kim leaned over the bar to stare at the two of us, severe eyes set squarely our way. “Gettin’ busy,” he remarked, eyeing the guests as they filed in.

Taking notice of my surroundings for the first time since I’d arrived at the coffee shop, I glanced around. Indeed, customers were filling up the quiet space rather quickly. Milling about in the courtyard admiring the perennial plants or taking up residence at one of the several mismatched tables, guests seemed to be everywhere.

“Any idea why?” I asked, peering over Nara’s head to get a good look at the rest of the shop, still just as packed as the front.

Mr. Kim nodded. “Seems someone endorsed us,” he said, taking a sly glance at me.

I stiffened, pointing to my chest. “Me?” I asked.

He shook his head. “That Taehyung kid,” he said. “Comes by a lot these days and just sits in the corner drawing on a tablet.”

My mouth felt dry. There was so much I was keeping from Taehyung, and yet he still came by this place? Why did I feel so guilty when he was the one who planted the initial seed of dishonesty between us? I crossed my arms and shrugged, watching the steam rise from my teacup.

“So they’re here to see Vante,” said Nara with a knowing nod. “Weird.”

“Well, I won’t turn away paying customers,” said Mr. Kim with a hearty laugh. “Just a bit understaffed.” He looked back at us like he was trying to send us a message with his eyes alone.

Message received.

I took a big sip of my tea and stood to my feet, wandering back around the bar to join Mr. Kim among the coffee machines. “Where are the aprons?” I asked, giving him a smile.

He returned it and jerked his head back towards the kitchen. “Grab one for Nara too,” he said, turning a frown towards his daughter who sat, puzzled, completely still.

Before I took my leave into the kitchen, Mr. Kim glanced back at me and smiled in that fatherly way that made me homesick. His eyes squinted a little, revealing deep crow’s feet, and there was a fondness there that never failed to catch me off guard.

“Looks like Y/N’s nunchi has improved,” he said with a chuckle before returning to the espresso he had brewing.

My back went rigid before a small smile overtook me and I rubbed the back of my neck, turning on my heel into the kitchen.

I guided a coffee cup onto the corner of one of the waiting tables, bowing my head as the patrons thanked me, before turning back toward the bar and gabbing yet another. Such was the rhythm of this sort of work. Back and forth like a tide or something. Every now and again when Mr. Kim would get swamped — usually during university exam season — Nara and I would help out around the shop. But it’d been quite a while since the two of us had worked this way, and with so many new customers needing attention we couldn’t so much as spare a moment to crack a joke or nudge each other with our elbows passing by.

I approached one of the outdoor tables and found an older couple sitting in the sunlight, chatting easily. My arm was aching from the weight of the tray, and I furrowed my brow when I paused to look at its contents. I hadn’t taken their order, likely Nara had while I was off doing something else, but as I looked down at my serving tray I noticed a vast array of food and drink. Puzzled, I walked closer and began unloading the tray one item at a time. A slice of persimmon cake, sautéed pine mushrooms, two chestnut cookies, a caramel latte, roasted sweet potatoes, two cups of green tea, and pumpkin porridge.

“Thank you,” said the woman with a motherly smile. Quickly, I bowed and turned to take my leave, but the woman called after me. “Wait!” she said, and I heard her metal chair scrape against the floor.

I turned around, anticipating a scolding. “Yes, Ma’am?”

“You’re that girl, aren’t you? Y/N?” she asked.

For the first time, I took a proper look at her and noticed to my shock that she was vaguely familiar. Alcohol had dulled my memory, but hearing her voice was enough to conjure an image. Her beside her husband, the two of them chuckling as they sat at a bar in an ornate ballroom.

I snapped my fingers, resting my tray on my hip, and nodded. “Ah! Mrs. Hayoon,” I said, grinning.

The man finally turned to face me and his eyes went wide. Again, the warm rush of familiarity gripped me and I gave him a bow. “Ah! That young girl from the gala!” he laughed, voice as booming as before, and rubbed his strong jaw. “My, isn’t this a surprise.”

I chuckled and rubbed my forearm. “Yes,” I said, a blush rising in my cheeks as I remembered that strange drunken encounter. “What brings you out here?”

“Our son gave this place high praise, so we figured we’d stop by,” said Hayoon with a soft smile.

I nodded. Perhaps he was a fan of Vante. “It’s a really nice shop,” I said with a grin and a thumbs-up.

Hayoon laughed and rested her chin in her hand. “It’s very good to see you again, Y/N,” she said.

It was strange. What would a rich couple like them think of me anyway? To be so happy to meet me again… I smiled. “Well, I’d better get back to serving…,” I began, hinting at an early exit from the conversation.

The man, Jaesun if I remembered correctly, waved his hand a few times with a huff, dismissing my concerns. “No, no. There’s lots for us to discuss anyway,” he said, then patted the extra seat between the couple twice. “Sit, sit!”

I stiffened and glanced over my shoulder at Nara running around like a woman possessed trying to tend to all of the guests. “Ah, we’re actually swamped. I don’t think I can-,”

“We’ll pay your hourly, so give us an hour,” said Jaesun with a laugh as Hayoon furrowed her brow at him, disapproving. The air of the courtyard was beginning to grow quiet, watching our exchange in the peaceful afternoon sun.

I chuckled. “Ah, no. I-I don’t work here or anything,” I said, waving my hand. “I’m just helping out.” I met eyes with a few onlooking patrons over my shoulder, trying to let them know through slight bows that everything was fine.

Jaesun hummed and rubbed his chin, pensive. Quickly, I returned my full attention to him and found him imploring me from below. “Well, when will you be finished?” he asked, eyeing me from his seat.

I glanced away. Those eyes were familiar in a way I couldn’t quite name. “I guess…whenever the rush is over?” I asked.

He laughed and nodded. “Well, how about we come back here tomorrow and we’ll treat you to some steak,” he said, adjusting the sleeves of his sweater as he took a sip of tea.

I shook my head. “Oh! No, Sir, that’s alright. I wouldn’t feel right letting you-,”

“Nonsense,” he said. “We wanted to get to know you anyway.”

I opened my mouth to protest, but Hayoon silenced me, grinning as she sipped her own tea, lashes dusting the high apples of her cheeks. Still, people watched us from about the courtyard. “We’ve been trying to find you since the gala.”

I stiffened. Why on earth would they do something like that? I cleared my throat. “Ah, well I’m really flattered, but I don’t think I can accept. I don’t want to take advantage-,”

“If someone’s offering something to you, then they mean it,” said Jaesun with a curt cough, nodding his head once. Hayoon covered a chuckle with her teacup. “No need to turn people down when they wanna do something for you.”

I swallowed hard. How did these people not see this was strange? A foggy memory resurfaced of the two of them comparing me to someone. Hwayoung? Could that perhaps be a daughter of theirs? I scanned them, idling just beside their table, and tried to discern anything from their faces alone. Weathered and greying, the two looked like any other middle-aged couple in Korea. They didn’t seem the type to be overtly generous this way, but they also didn’t seem the type to seek a surrogate daughter while their’s was missing.

“Y/N! I need your help in here!” called Nara, practically begging, from inside the shop.

I clamped my mouth shut and looked back toward the couple. “Um…I guess I’ll meet you here tomorrow then,” I said, feeling not only Nara’s eyes but the eyes of numerous patrons boring into my back with every second I wasted in indecision.

I was curious anyway.

Hayoon smiled and gave my hand a pat from her seat. “Good, good,” she said, urging me back to work with the flick of her wrist. “We’ll wait right here.”

I nodded and bowed, turning on my heel and rushing back toward where Nara stood in the doorway.

“Wanna stay over with me tonight?” asked Nara as the two of us wandered toward the sidewalk outside Nunchi, sunset ushering us into the empty street. She eyed me from the side, crossing her arms. “Someone in my family ought to repay you for your help today anyway.”

I chuckled. “I’m fine, Nara. Don’t worry,” I said, then sighed. “I won’t do anything reckless on my own.”

“Hard to believe,” she said. She kicked the sidewalk with the tip of her Doc Martens boot and sighed. “You’re doing all sorts of things lately. Feels like you’re getting kinda far away.”

I stiffened, turning to her. “Huh?” I asked.

She sighed and shook her head, turning to me with a smile. “Forget it. I’m just worried about you.”

I felt my expression go sour, worry running through me. Was I being a negligent friend? Pushing Nara away? I wrung my hands and panicked, unplaced guilt running through me.

She laughed and gave my shoulder a light shove. “Forget it, alright? It’s nothing,” she said.

I lifted my eyes and grabbed her hand tightly in mine. “I’ll stay over with you,” I said with a severe nod.

She laughed, trying to free her hand from my grip, and leaned away from me. “God, don’t be so serious!” she shouted, wiggling her arm.

I shook my head. “Let’s go.” I led her by the unwilling hand toward the subway station.

Nara and I sat beside one another on the couch, Hyun perched between us with his head propped on one paw. I leaned into the cushions with a yawn, Train to Busan playing gently on the TV. Nara hadn’t said much, and I remembered that night I’d come over after the gala. How she’d simply let me sit in my silence.

This time, however, I felt stronger.

And for her sake, I was the one who broke the comfortable quiet. “You have more to say, don’t you?” I asked, snuggling into my blanket. “Our conversation got cut off back at Nunchi.”

She glanced at me before shoving her hand into the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table. The living room was entirely dark save for the glow of the television, but even in the low light I could see the trouble in her eyes.

“I don’t like the idea of you putting yourself in danger for me,” she said, then sighed. “Even though I know it’s not just for me. It…just feels kinda bad knowing I’m part of the reason.”

I nodded. “I understand,” I said, then sighed and remembered the swelling hope in Jungkook’s eyes. Frustrated by the thought, I shook my head and ran my fingers through Hyun’s fur. “But…after everything that’s happened…I guess maybe I’m sick of watching people get away with bad things.”

Nara stilled beside me, popcorn half-chewed in her mouth. “That’s kind of out of character…”

“I know,” I said.

Nara was quiet for a beat too long and I looked at her, desperate for some sort of consolation. Instead, she gave me a glance before quickly looking away. “I’m just…not so used to this side of you.”

“Do you dislike it?” I asked quietly, almost timid.

She shook her head. “Just new.”

Was she right? Was I going too far for something that didn’t even matter that much? In the grand scheme of things, getting myself further involved with all of this was likely a mistake. I’d probably regret it. But…something in my gut told me I had to do it. Because, in the end, I might regret not doing it more.

If man makes himself a worm he must not complain when he is trodden on.

The old quote returned to me in a surge of memory and I inhaled sharply. Taehyung had said that. He’d said that, he’d given me the necklace, given me strength. He’d seen this something in me before I had.

But was this something worth compromising my oldest and deepest friendship?

I glanced at Nara, troubled, and a storm brewed in my chest. How long had I been living this way? Terrified of being left behind, being forgotten? So fearful to take a single step out of line that instead of moving at all I stayed still? How long had I allowed my fear of people abandoning me to make me abandon myself?

Nara was a dear friend. Dearer than any other.

But in the end, the one I had to face when I looked in the mirror was me. And the only person I knew I’d always have was myself.

So the only person I had to answer to was me.

“I’m sorry,” I said, twirling a tuft of Hyun’s white hair into a spiral between my fingertips.

She sighed. “Remember when we were kids and Hyuna convinced everyone to leave their classroom duties to you? How you just…did it?”

The memory struck a discordant note with me and, with a scowl, I buried my chin in the plush blankets. “Mhm.”

“You’re different now,” she said with a small nod. “I don’t think you’d do it now.”

I watched the TV without really watching, just listening to the rhythm of my own heartbeat as the two of us sat side-by-side. “You still don’t approve.”

She sighed. “No,” she said, then eyed me. “But I get the feeling that that won’t stop you.”

I met her eyes. A charge of energy passed between us, like we finally understood one another after a long time of silence. I nodded. “Probably not.”

Finally, she cracked a smile, easing back against the couch with a chuckle and a knowing nod. She returned her attention to the movie. “That’s what makes you different now.”

It was one in the morning when I got a frantic phone call. Drowsy after having fallen asleep leaning against Hyun’s pillowy side, I strained at the sound of my cell buzzing on the floor beside one of Nara’s mismatched socks. As far as I remembered, I’d fallen asleep first but with the TV still playing, I saw Nara was now passed out, snoring slightly as a little bit of drool dried on her cheek. She groaned a little as I moved away from her side, her head lolling back against the couch cushion, her laptop still open on the coffee table. When had she brought that thing out to the living room?

Groaning, I leaned down and grabbed the phone, pressing it to my ear without so much as opening my eyes properly for fear of the TV light burning my sensitive retinas. “Hello?” I mumbled.

“Y/N!”

My face scrunched up and I rolled back onto the couch, resting my head on Hyun’s back once more. “Jungkook?” I asked. There was no mistaking his voice, the honey-sweet but somehow mischievous tone. I hummed a little, still half-asleep, and pressed the phone closer to my ear. “It’s nice to hear your voice.”

“I…,” he began, then cleared his throat. “Y/N, are you playing around with me?”

I stiffened, my senses slowly returning, and sat upright. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and shook my head. “What? What do you mean by that?”

He sighed, clearly frustrated, and took a moment before speaking. “Are you saying that because you genuinely don’t know or because you’re playing dumb?”

“If I was playing dumb why would I tell you?” I asked, then shook my head. “Anyway, no. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

He was quiet. “Really?” he asked, voice softer now, gentler.

“Really,” I repeated, feeling my cheeks flush at the tenderness that had taken over the empty space between us.

He exhaled slowly. “It must be a misunderstanding then,” he said. “Sorry about it. I didn’t mean to wake you up or anything.”

“What’s a misunderstanding?”

“Huh? Oh…well, just…there’s this article that came out, like, an hour ago and-,”

“Article?” I asked, shaking my head. I fell onto the floor and crossed my legs, tapping the space bar on Nara’s computer. “What article?”

“Uh…just talking about this ‘mystery girl’ and Vante,” he said, then scoffed. “The state of journalism in Korea really is shameful.”

I furrowed my brow as the computer slowly roused to life. “Mystery girl? Me again?”

He cleared his throat. “Um…yeah, looks like it,” he said, then sighed. “I didn’t wanna ask or anything, but that first article with you and that Taehyung guy…was it-,”

“Wasn’t true,” I said, then paused and shook my head. “I mean, yeah I did give him a hug, but it wasn’t like that.”

“You hugged him?” asked Jungkook quietly.

I snapped my mouth shut and keyed in Nara’s password: hyunnie101. “I…yeah. It was…really complicated,” I said. Like I was confessing something to a lover…

Wasn’t I though?

I shook my head, disgruntled, and opened up a web browser, surprised to see she’d left her last session open to view. “I mean, I’m not really the jealous type, but…I don’t really like it when the girl I like is hugging other guys, you know? Not that you can’t! You can do whatever you want. But I just-,”

“Jungkook, hold on,” I said, stunned as I looked at the open browser.

“Huh? Oh, yeah of course,” he said, supplementing the silence with a laugh.

There, in full color, was a photo of me standing beside Hayoon and Jaesun’s table at the coffee shop, my serving tray carefully obscured by my right thigh and my face blurred by a tasteful pixelated square. The two of them beamed up at me as I apparently spoke without looking their way. I couldn’t wrap my mind around how that couple could possibly be related to Taehyung. Confused, I scrolled up to the top of the browser. Why hadn’t Nara woken me up to tell me about this? Was she really mad at me?

“Shit…,” I mumbled as I saw the title.

I was tagged by @brenli , thank you so much! I don’t think I’ve ever done anything so long on this page :D So, here we go! It will be a little messy, ‘cause I’m constantly overtired and feel slightly rusty with my English, and also withholding some facts, ‘cause I’m paranoid. Sorry. 

1. how tall are you?  158 cm, which means I’m usually the tiniest person around. I don’t mind, though. 

2. what color and style is your hair?  Natural color is pretty mousy and I hate it, so I’ve been dying my hair since junior highschool, I guess. Till last year I always dyed them claret, but last holiday I changed it to something that starts as black and finishes as plum.  I used to have them shoulder-length, but four years ago I cut them really short and since then I am a proud owner of very little hair on my head. I do envy people with long hair, but well, I know what I have now fits me better. 

3. what color are your eyes?  Green.

4. do you wear glasses? Yup, constantly since the end of elementary school. With myopia that goes to - 6 I really do not see much without my glasses. I’ve never used contacts nor do I intend to, I can’t imagine having to touch my eyeballs or anything.

5. do you wear braces? Not anymore, thankfully! But I did, for 7 years!!! I still have to wear some stuff at nights and I have one element left on my lower teeth, but that’s all. 

6. what is your fashion style? I don’t think I have one. I mean I don’t like fashion, so I just wear whatever I feel like wearing. My clothes are diverse, but they are usually dark and with something interesting on them (imprints/spikes/other metal things). I have a lot of T-shirts/sweaters with skulls and animals (especially cats and owls). I love warm sweaters, hoodies, jeans and leather jackets. I am obsessed with high heels, my favorite shoes are a black leather ones that reach well above my ankles and have like an 8-cm-long heel. I don’t own a single skirt (like... no) and I have only a few dresses which I wear only if I’m forced to (big dislike for these ones as well). I’m an all-trousers girl. I definitely prefer my style casual; when it comes to elegance I like to wear black in general - black smooth trousers and black suit. 

7. full name? Sorry, I don’t feel comfortable disclosing it online. 

8. when were you born? July 12, 1994.

9. where are you from and where do you live now? I was born in a small-ish town in southern Poland and now I still live in southern Poland, but in a much bigger town. So not much of a change, just a few hours of travel by car. 

10. what school do you go to? One Polish university, four months to go and it will be the end of any school for me! 

11. what kind of student are you? Up till university, I was an excellent student, always the best at everything. I was definitely a geek who learned too much. And I always wanted to be at the top. University changed it completely; even when I’m trying hard I’m just average. If I like a subject it shows and I’m having good grades, but generally, I’m all for passing, not excelling. I’m learning a lot and it still isn’t enough right now, which is frustrating at times, especially when I compare myself to my colleagues. On other occasions... I simply don’t care. I just want to pass.

12. do you like school? Well... It depends on the period of my life. I think I didn’t mind elementary school, I hated junior high school and liked actual high school. About university... every year is different, so there were good ones and there were bad ones. I’m not a fan of it in general, though. 

13. what are your favorite school subjects? Pre-uni: Maths and Chemistry, mostly, but Chemistry was my biggest and most unexpected love during my time at school. When it first started I had no idea what it was and I was terrified with it, plus I was behind the whole class because of some disease and I was honestly so nervous about it. Then, a month later, I kinda... fell for it and stayed infatuated with it till the end of junior high. And that’s mostly how I found myself on medical studies a few years later. My teacher from junior high was so amazing she made me love Chemistry more than anything, but sadly, my teacher from high school ruined it all. I had a great Biology teacher then, though it didn’t make me love Biology. It just enabled me to get into the uni I wanted to get to.  I almost always liked my English classes as well, because I had some really amazing teachers and I loved English. I still do, languages are amazing. 

Uni: Histology, Pharmacology, Surgery. The first two are the only ones I excelled at. Surgery - not so much, but I still did well on the final exam. 

14. favorite TV shows? It is both an easy and difficult question. Easy because I do have one TV series I consider my ultimate favorite, and it’s Angel from Buffyverse. The best thing about it is the most amazing character development I’ve ever seen, and trust me, I’m a sucker when it comes to character development. My favorite character from there is one of my ultimate faves (if not THE one) and his path is one of the most epic ever. Plus it has an amazing material for shipping and some great acting, it’s dark, depressing and hopeless, and that’s what I love. It’s also one of the few examples of TV series when I actually LIKE the main character; he’s actually one of the people I like the most. It almost never happens; usually, I’m very anti-main characters (e.g. LotR, HP).

The question gets difficult because there are also such shows as Chuck, Firefly or Code Black, amazing and mostly flawless (apart from the ending of Chuck), but are they my favorites? At times, maybe. In general... I just don’t know. Bones and Castle fought for my undivided attention for years (most of the times Bones was on the winning side) and they’re both in my top 10, though probably not top 3. Plus, there are some gems that had such amazing potential, but were cut short and had too little time to develop; apart from Firefly, it would be, e.g. Monday Mornings, Perception, Black Box.

There were also a lot of amazing TV shows I loved dearly during some of their seasons, but almost always something happened and they got ruined. PLL, TVD, Grey’s Anatomy (I feel like I’m watching it now for one pairing only), OUaT and so on. House was my first American TV series and I’ll always have a place for it in my heart. I love GoT in its very early and very late seasons, but what comes in between? Nope.  

(I watch way too much TV.) 

The honorary mentions should go to some non-American shows (honestly speaking, I’m kinda tired with the general trends of American TV at the moment). I’ve started my adventures with TV with Polish soap operas that I completely adored; when I discovered American TV I stopped watching them entirely and don’t intend to come back. I love some good English dramas, but BBC tends to get a little bit overdramatic or too dark even for me (Ripper Street ripped my heart from my chest). Speaking of ripping hearts, let’s not forget about the Japanese ones, as @brenli mentioned! They are something completely different, they have amazing plotlines and characters, and - sometimes - Hiroyuki Sanada who is just everything (and I get to analyze the shows with @brenli, which makes them even better). Koukou Kyoushi will stay with me for years to come, probably Konna Koi No Hanashi as well. Considering my current Asian phase I expect to see much more of Japanese (or maybe Korean) dramas in the future.

15. favorite movies? There are a few movies I could watch on constant repeat and they mean so much to me. Let’s categorize them in genres, shall we?  Animation: How to Train Your Dragon (especially the first part, the second one breaks my heart too much), Ice Age 3; plus the tales of my childhood I could watch five times a day - Pocahontas, Mulan, Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron. Period: Pride & Prejudice 2005. Rom-com: Holiday; Love, Actually. Adventure: Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3. Sci-fi: Matrix 1 & 3.  Plus a few honorary mentions that are equally important, but I just wouldn’t have them on constant rewatch: LotR, SW, HP, Indiana Jones (not every part for every one of these series), National Treasure. There are also a few amazing anime movies (Spirited Away, Kimi No Na Wa, Wolf Children) and among them some masterpieces I think were wonderful, but too heartbreaking to ever watch them again (Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Kaguya). 

16. favorite books? Most of my favorite books are cycles that I grew up with - LotR, HP, Inkheart Trilogy, the Vampirates series, Artemis Fowl, Jeżycjada (a Polish series about a multi-generational Polish family), Felix, Net i Nika (kinda Polish version of HP with science and technology in place of magic), some books by Ewa Nowak. Also, Pride & Prejudice. I’ve loved a lot of books since, but does any of them deserve to be called a “favorite”? I’m not so sure about it.

17. favorite pastime? Writing, from the moment I’ve learned to write (4 years old, I believe). Second best would be watching TV series; when I was younger I’d much rather like to read a book, but that kinda changed. Though, if I’m being honest, at the time being it would be watching ski jumping competitions or anything BTS-related. These past two weeks (yup, I’ve been writing this post for two weeks) has been an interesting journey of interchanging obsessions, some revisited (sj) and some I’ve never expected to develop (BTS).

18. do you have any regrets? Sure, who doesn’t? I’m trying to live by the rule “regret doing something rather than not doing it”, but well, it can’t always work. 

19. dream job? A writer, for sure, always and forever. That is the one thing that has been with me my whole life. Apart from that? Well... Some time after I started my studies I developed a strong dream of becoming a neurosurgeon one day, but this dream faltered this year and now I’m not so sure anymore. Now I feel like I made a completely wrong career choice those few years ago. 

20. would you like to get married someday? Marriage has never been one of my dreams or something I HAVE to do in the future, but I definitely want to have someone by my side, and if they want to get married, then sure, we can do that. Not necessarily though. 

21. would you like to have kids someday? No, no and once again no, and there are so many reasons! First, I do know my body would not be physiologically okay with pregnancy (and after studying Gynaecology I do believe pregnancy is one of the worst things - if not THE worst - that could ever happen to one’s body) and I have no intention of doing such a thing to myself. Second, children scare me; my whole life I’ve been doing my best to keep my distance and avoid contact at any cost (which kinda worked as far, I’ve never even held a baby). Third, I have no maternal instinct and I do know I would be a terrible mother, so what’s the point? 

23. do you like shopping? No. Since I was a child, when my parents took me shopping I always had a book with me and just followed them around while reading (somehow I managed not to collide with anything throughout all these years :P). I still do the same thing if someone makes me go with them to the mall, only now it’s more often my phone, not a book. I love buying books, though. I used to go to the bookshops and buy five books at a time. I don’t do that right now, because a) money b) I have tons of unread books already, but I could still go there and spend hours just looking at the books and reading their covers. 

24. what countries have you visited? Only one, and I’m not even sure it should count. I’ve been to Slovakia twice, but both times only like 50km from the border, and I’ve spent there max few hours. So... it definitely wasn’t even remotely close to this “going abroad” I’ve been always dreaming about... 

25. what’s the scariest nightmare you’ve ever had? Hmm... There was one in my adult life that left me absolutely terrified; I remember waking up and feeling paralyzed with fear. I had a feeling someone was standing in the doorway, but I was too scared to turn around and see, so I was just lying there with my eyes wide open, waiting until the fear passes or something else happens... What was the dream about? I only remember it took place in some fancy mansion near the beach that was either mine or one of my friends’. I think it wasn’t actually a nightmare until the very end when something bad was about to happen to someone who was standing in the living room. The other person was creeping in the dark or something like that, and the character in the dream had the same kind of fear I woke up with. I didn’t actually want to remember more details. 

26. do you have any enemies? I did have some, on every stage of my education, but they are no longer in my life. Nowadays I think I’m too irrelevant to be anyone’s enemy. There are some people with whom I share a mutual dislike, but “enemies” is probably too strong of a word in these cases. 

27. do you have an s/o? Nope. Never had. 

28. do you believe in miracles? Well... not really. I believe in luck and destiny, but miracles? I definitely don’t believe in them in any religious context (I’m completely anti-religion). When it comes to some other kinds of miracles, like medical ones - I know things happen, wonderful things that have no logical explanation, but I do believe that deep down, even though we don’t know it, they have some logical explanation. We just can’t see it.

📚SWEET TEETH CENSUS RESULTS POST!📚

Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to every person who filled in the census form. It’s really humbling to have such an active and generous reader base and I love you all for giving your time up for this. I think the results are really interesting and hopefully you do too! 

Unsurprisingly (for an EXO/BTS blog) the breakdown for fan status is pretty straightforward. I must say I do like the ‘Edie sucking peanut butter off Suga’s elbow’ response 😂

This chart is really shit for display but the breakdown is like this - Chanyeol wins with 22% of the votes (9), followed by Yoongi at 14.6%, then its Minseok 12.2%, Baekhyun 9.8% and Taehyung at 7.3% and onwards down the line into single votes. 

I thought this answer was particularly interesting due to the high number of people who voted ‘maybe’. Y’all a bit curious aren’t you? 

Again, unsurprisingly the majority of readers are within the 18-21 bracket! Hi my youthful babes! 

Ugh I included this question to confirm my worst fears, that the majority of people view the blog in mobile rather than desktop. This is good though as it means I shouldn’t really be sweating how my blog looks on PC because you guys clearly don’t look at it that way very often. 

Oh wow guys I was so flattered by the responses to this question. Look at how many people read DAILY!! Also love especially to the people who voted for the pink option - ‘I read the same fic all the time and I have to say I hate you’. Bwahahahah. 😂

This was another one I predicted correctly. The majority of readers do not have specific times when they read, yet 29.3% of votes were for ‘before or in bed’. I totally feel you on that guys, I used to read all my smut in bed before I started writing it. 

This question was really helpful to me as I’ve been questioning when I should post fics for the best response. Turns out 34% of you have notifications on so that’s good to know! I also love how many people (36%) binge read. I’m with you on that! 

77.5% of you follow me on your main blog. Nice work! Also - thank you to the ghost readers (10%) who despite not following me decided to contribute to this census, that’s really sweet of you and don’t worry, I understand some people can’t/don’t want to follow on their main. 

This had a lot of ‘other’ inputs, but the majority of people voted yay for threesomes+. 

This is interesting too - these two graphs basically ask the same question but from opposite angles (do you like real world or fantasy set fics) and the answers are pretty close to each other. 

The vast majority (43%) of readers prefer fics that are somewhere in between soft and hard, although hard has 26%, hardcore has 9% and soft has 2.4%. 

It looks like from this graph I should stick to my current standard of 3-5 paragraphs or around 800 words for my fics, what with 43% saying they liked page length and 39% saying 3-5 paragraphs. 

This is another exceptionally helpful set of responses. It looks like y’all don’t mind when I post - which means the 14% who said they’d prefer weekends are getting their wish. I will probably still post occasional fics in the week but I’m going to focus the bulk into weekend posts.

Finally the juicy bit!! Here is the complete kink list (ignore @havokhayley trolling me at the bottom!) - Turns out the biggest shared kinks are Dirty talk (82.9%), Fingering (80.5%) and Edging (75%). Good thing I have a lot of the latter two. 

I put this in because I actually have plans to make a series of zine versions of the smut I’ve written (at some point). I may also be in talks with illustrators to make enamel badges of some of my favourite tags but we’ll see how that gets on. Well this is even more difficult but I’ll list some I’ve been listening to a lot recently bc I am super indecisive: Blackout by VIXX (bc i finally added it to my playlist thanks to cass), CAMO by BoA (dude this song is so good i’ve listened to it so much she is my queen), Running 2 U by NCT127 (ah this song is so lit by i wish it was longer tbh), Happy by WJSN (i go so hard to this song) and You Smile by ASTRO (this might be my favorite astro song ever idk i just love it so so much like i love baby a lot but 10/10 shoulda been their title imo)

hmmmm well idk abt you but i just hate jeon wonwoo what a gross nerd who reads a bunch o books and makes dumb puns and laughs unnecessarily hard at the pain of others and is generally very violent w skinship and can’t eat seafood and is wayyyy overconfident and always hides his hands if he’s wearing long sleeves and is generally very shy and introverted and is afraid of dogs and cried at me before you and thinks he’s the best gamer in the world and has the dorkiest,  most adorable smile where his nose crinkles up and wow how gross don’t like him at all idk what to say

ahhh mariah i totally agree w you~~ my ‘style’ is just generally comfy lol usually i wear leggings and a t-shirt tbh but my job requires me to wear real pants rip so for work i usually wear jeans and an okay shirt ? my staple piece is long sleeve t-shirts tho i wear them all the time even in summer here it gets p hot but if i can i wear log sleeves and pants bc i’m crazy apparently. i like sweaters a lot too and jeans but idk i’m just so lazy when it comes to fashion help me

Hundreds of extra flights have taken off from the UK, an estimated 70,000 fans are descending on Madrid – and two managers without a trophy to their name at their current sides joked easily with reporters as they prepare to compete for the biggest prize in club football.

Tottenham and Liverpool meet in the first all-English Champions League final since 2008 when they face each other in the Spanish capital on Saturday.

Their fans will share 33,226 tickets for the final, which takes place in the 68,000-capacity Wanda Metropolitano stadium, although many more will travel in the hope of finding a ticket, or just to soak up the occasion.

The Reds, who lost to Real Madrid in last year’s final, finished two places and 26 points above Spurs in the Premier League.

Their style of play has been much praised this season, and their 97 points and one defeat are English records for a team finishing runners-up in the top flight.

But they have not won anything since manager Jurgen Klopp’s arrival in 2015 – and the German has lost his last six finals, including the Champions League final in 2013 with Borussia Dortmund and last year with Liverpool.

“All the circumstances were different, the teams were different,” said Klopp on Friday. “If I were the reason for losing six finals then everyone needs to worry. Last year was a world-class goal and two strange goals we normally don’t concede which defeated us.

“My career so far is not unlucky. I haven’t a problem with my career. My wife always asks me when the final game of the season is because since 2012, apart from 2017, my teams have been in finals.

“I don’t see myself as a loser and we would have a problem if I did.”

Liverpool have won the European Cup or Champions League five times, most recently in 2005. They have twice been finalists since then – beaten in 2007 by AC Milan and last year by Real.

In contrast this is Spurs’ first ever final of the premier European club competition. And they have not won any trophy for the past 11 years, with their most recent silverware the 2008 League Cup.

Former Espanyol and Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking for the first trophy of his managerial career and has hinted he could leave and return to his native Argentina if he achieves it.

Pochettino has suggested the way the club is currently run needs to change. Spurs have not signed a single player since semi-final hero Lucas Moura in 31 January 2018.

“We haven’t been able to play in our new stadium; we had to play in Wembley until a couple of months ago.

The biggest question about the line-ups by some distance is whether Tottenham striker Harry Kane will start.

The England captain, who has scored 24 goals for Spurs this season, says he is “ready to go” after recovering from ligament damage to his left ankle when he slipped in the quarter-final first leg against Manchester City.

Pochettino said on Friday that he had not made any final decision on his starting line-up, with the team due to train that evening.

“It’s difficult, you need to take a decision and tomorrow is another decision,” he said. “We have all the information – we will use every detail to try to win.

“You can use only 11 players from the beginning – that is the most painful situation.”

Klopp says Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is fit following a groin injury – although he did not confirm whether the Brazilian would start, suggesting he did not want to let Spurs know his line-up if he did not know theirs.

“If Poch afterwards says the exact line-up then call me and I will tell you our line-up as well, so if not then I thought I’d keep at least a few question marks open,” he said.

“But he’s fit, he trains. If nothing happens from the moment he left the plane to now because I didn’t see him since then, then he should be fine.”

Midfielder Naby Keita is definitely ruled out through injury.

‘I don’t feel sorry for Ajax’ – Pochettino on Tottenham’s thrilling semi-final

The two sides had equally dramatic routes to the final. Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit. And Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick as Spurs came from 3-0 down on aggregate to beat Ajax on away goals.

Both sides had only narrowly came through their groups, with Liverpool losing all three away games.

Tottenham have come within 20 minutes of being eliminated five times – in each of their final three group games, the quarter-final against Manchester City and against Ajax, when they were seconds away from defeat.

In fact, whoever wins Saturday’s final will have lost more Champions League games in a season (four) than anyone since the current format started in 2003-04. The previous high was AC Milan’s three in 2007.

It is the first final between two non-group winners since 2010 and the first not to feature a team who have won their own league in the 21st century.

Klopp and Pochettino took centre stage at the vast Wanda Metropolitano Stadium as the English takeover spread across the city of Madrid.

It is estimated 70,000 fans will be arriving in the Spanish capital, many without tickets but just wanting to be part of the occasion.

Liverpool and Spurs supporters were circling the stadium early on Friday morning in search of an elusive golden ticket, breaking off from their quest from time to time to seek shade from searing temperatures.

The city centre was decorated in the red of Liverpool and white of Spurs as supporters gathered on Plaza Mayor, the centre of Old Madrid, and the Cibeles Fountain, where Real Madrid have brought the Champions League trophy after multiple recent triumphs.

Klopp and Pochettino were both in remarkably relaxed mood before a game that will capture global attention, both in search of a first trophy at Liverpool and Spurs – and with the biggest one in European club football as the prize.

Liverpool’s manager flashed his trademark grin when his recent dismal record in finals was inevitably a point of discussion, while Pochettino’s media briefing offered up one golden moment when the Spurs manager was asked whether he had lost weight.

Pochettino, who admittedly did look like he had shed a few pounds, reacted with an expression of astonishment before standing up and striking a supermodel’s pose.

Then it was down to business and the sight of the recently injured Firmino and Kane taking part in training in the glorious evening sunshine.

What was clear, behind the smiles and the occasional knockabout moments, was the very obvious and huge respect these two formidable managers have for each other, feelings shared by their players.

Liverpool may be favourites but they will not be fooled by that any more than Spurs will feel their hopes are reduced by the tag of underdogs.

The preliminaries are over. This superb Spanish stage is set for the second all-Premier League Champions League final.

How many fans are expected in Madrid?

Estimates for how many English fans will be in Madrid on Saturday vary from 70,000 to 100,000.

About 9,000 flights were predicted to take off from the UK on Friday, which would exceed the previous record for flights in a day. Madrid airport is expecting an extra 800 flights this weekend.

Liverpool supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly and the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust issued a joint statement on ticketing, complaining of a “measly allocation from Uefa” for the final – with just under 50% of the stadium’s seats going to fans of the two sides.

The two fan groups called for a cap on ticket pricing, transparency over allocation and protection for fans to stop hotel and flight prices being “forced up”.

Rising flight prices have also attracted scrutiny, with Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram tweeting Easyjet to ask why some prices had risen by 683%.

Some fans have decided instead to drive over 1,000 miles (1,600km) to Madrid.

With face-value tickets costing more than £500 for some seats, resale websites have been selling tickets for £5,500. One fan told the BBC that he and his friends had been offered £15,000 for their four £60 tickets.

Uefa has warned fans about a high number of fake tickets being sold on the black market. It says: “Arrests have already been made in a clampdown on bogus tickets. Holders of forged tickets will not be allowed into the stadium.”

The UK government issued official advice to both sets of fans on its websiteand has warned that “there will be NO live screening of the match in the fan zones or festival areas” in Madrid.

How are people watching in the UK?

Fans staying in England have plenty of choice if they want to watch the game in public.

Spurs are showing the final live at their stadium, which will be open to its full 62,000 capacity and reportedly boasts the largest LED screens in Europe.

Anfield hosted a screening of the final last year but is preparing for Take That, Bon Jovi and Pink concerts in June.

Screenings will instead take place at three venues in Liverpool, catering for a total of 11,500 supporters. They are the Auditorium Liverpool, Space by M&S Bank Arena and the convention centre.

Most bookmakers have Liverpool at odds of 1-2 to lift the trophy, with Spurs at about 13-8.

Statisticians Gracenote also make the Reds big favourites. Head of sports analysis Simon Gleave said: “Liverpool are big favourites to win with our Euro Club Indexgiving the Reds a 70.5% chance of lifting the trophy.

“However, Tottenham’s 29.5% chance of doing so is better than their chance of getting to this final pretty much throughout the second leg of the semi-final tie against Ajax.

“The Spurs Champions League story this season has been remarkable, starting with progress from the group phase after taking just a point from the first three matches and climaxing (so far) with their remarkable second-half comeback in Amsterdam in their last match.

“Tottenham are currently ranked 10th on the Euro Club Index ranking, seven places below third-ranked Liverpool, and will be the lowest ranked Champions League winners since the ECI launched in 2007 if they win.”

Liverpool are playing in their ninth European Cup/Champions League final – more than any other English side. They’ve won the trophy five times, but have lost their past two finals (2007 and 2018).

Tottenham are playing in their first ever European Cup/Champions League final. The past five first-time finalists have lost – Chelsea 2008, Arsenal 2006, Monaco 2004, Bayer Leverkusen 2002 and Valencia 2000.

The last side to lose consecutive Champions League finals were Valencia in 2000 and 2001.

This will be Tottenham’s first European final since the 1984 Uefa Cup. They are looking to become just the third English side to win all three major Uefa tournaments, including the old Cup Winners’ Cup.

Liverpool have lost their past four finals since winning the 2012 League Cup. Spurs have lost their past two finals since the 2008 League Cup.
