what's your opinion on fanfics about dnp? (more in a way of do you think that it's crossing boundaries and/or being parasocial)
i'm of the same mind of dnp in that phanfic is fucking incredible. it's an important and valid way to express yourself, as well as a building block of our community. i don't think it's crossing boundaries, as it's fiction. i don't see it as parasocial either--you're writing for you and others like you. most people don't want dnp reading their fics, it's not for them in a sense, it's for us.
i think dnp are extremely aware of fanfic and its value and place in community. they've always encouraged it, appreciated the support, and given us space about it. they're not ones to make videos about it and mock fans for it (which happened to some of our lovely fic writers here writing for other yt fandoms, and i'm so sorry about it). dnp are fandom culture people. they've written fic themselves! and published it in their book!
the word parasocial has been twisted lately to imply any fan support is unnatural and should be shamed, which is complete fucking bullshit. making art is always important and valued. and it is necessary for your existence as a human, but also for the thing you're a fan of to thrive.
the parasocial side comes in once you start believing you know this person. and that you're their real friend. when in reality, they do not know you specifically, and you are not their friend, you are an audience member.
so a parasocial relationship only occurs when people start crossing boundaries (digging for not publicly available information, contacting people in their personal life, showing up to their house, etc). which, is absolutely nowhere close to real fan behaviour.
tl;dr: phanfic is great, i love you fic writers, parasociality is a problem but not one that we have

omg I need your thoughts on the terminally o line author culture bc ngl it makes my eye TWITCH, there are authors I deliberately avoid even tho I've heard their stuff is good bc they're like that 🙈
HHHHH oh good lord, okay, from how I see it, there are two angles on this, both aggravating and sad: the official decree one and the spontaneous ecosystem one.
The officious one is that the nature of publishing nowadays demands an author have an online presence. You need Twitter/X. You need to let every potential reader know your book is coming out. You need engagement through reviews and pre-orders incentives (if you buy now you’ll get a special keychain!!) and word of mouth assurances from your peers that yes your book is as cool as you say it is. You need a newsletter with links (more buying! more voting on lists that are simply popularity contests!) and promises you’re still working on the next thing, don’t forget about me in the morass of everyone else doing the same thing. You need an Instagram and TikTok now to post pretty pictures and videos because one or two authors made it big off this kind of promotion and now everyone thinks it’s the ticket to the bestseller list (sadly, it seems to be working). You need an OnlyFans (a joke but I do recall a twt spat that was a joke/not joke about how rupi kaur will always be more beautiful than her critics and people who took issue with the conflation of beauty with talent). At the end of all this, you’re basically an influencer, a content creator creating content for the content you should be focusing on creating, the finished novel. And the novel itself seems to be disappearing behind the masks used to promote it (fanfic-style tropes, moodboards, playlists, memes) until I now no longer trust the book that I’ll pick up to have any resemblance to the enticements that brought me here. I’ve seen an author or two complain about the stress all this self-promotion generates, but it’s become such an entrenched part of the industry, I think people just accept it. And thus spend too much time online hoping that if they tweet just a little more, produce just one more reel, maybe that’ll be the difference between a sale and no sale.
The other side of this, distinct but obviously connected, is the ecosystem created by this panic of being perpetually visible coupled with the fact that so many of the new authors came of age during the rise of internet fandom culture. That opinionated community mindset that blurs the line between anonymity and friendship is the lens they bring to their own work. I mean, it makes sense I suppose—if you love yelling about characters and words, why wouldn’t you do that once you start to produce your own? This really came home to me hearing about that reviewbombgate “scandal” and how people involved were in reylo circles and that was used to provide receipts. You’re interacting with your readers and peers about your intimate work but they are also all strangers. They will not always give you the benefit of the doubt, and now—as opposed to the past when maybe the worst that could happen was a handful of bad reviews in newspapers—you will either be tagged in hate reviews, sub-tweeted, explicitly called out, demanded to atone for your sins. It’s no longer the morality of consumption but the morality of production. Of course, the easy answer is just log-off, touch some grass. But that can work only when you and everyone else are separated by anonymous accounts or when you have no platform to maintain. As an author trying to make your livelihood from this, suddenly it’s do or die. We’re in a strange moment of authorship bringing the Internet’s echo-chamber and claustrophobic into the real world (this is a lie: publishing now is no longer the real world. But it looks like it) and thus you can kind of no longer escape things.
Will the average reader who isn’t aware of all these machinations care about reviewbombgate? Would a reader browsing at Target think about the controversies around Lightlark? Very likely not. But the impression I’m getting more and more is that the average reader isn’t the one buying all the books. Or shall we say—a bestseller’s status relies on bookstore stock. Bookstore stock is only huge when they know a book will be a good investment. They’ll only know a book is a good investment if it and its author has street cred based on booktokkers, bookstagram, bloggers and reviewers (have you noticed how many books out these last maybe 1-3 years have these kinds of accounts thanked in the acknowledgments? Yeah), and THESE are also chronically online people who will Know. And decide the cast of fate.
Honestly, @batrachised, I see why you avoid these kinds of writers, though I wonder how long it’ll be before the disease becomes epidemic.

what r the differences between the Dirk genetic code brothers(???) like the differences in personality/demeanor between Dirk Hal and seb :p
i think the maaain difference is that lil seb is young and hasnt had a ton of time to develop issues like they have lol but they all share mega anxiety. they all deal with it differently tho.
u know how dirk uses irony and his off putting nature as a shield, hal is similar but hes way more antagonistic. remember when hes like im literally glasses what are u getting mad at me for?? it reads as younger sibling behavior sooo much and then he would immediately turn to dirk when things go sour.
honestly i think dirk would be more protective over hal than seb in the way that hal can both do WAY more damage (to his own image too lol) and he like. doesnt see anything explicitly wrong with seb. seb’s being constantly on edge wouldnt count as something wrong because he is also hyper aware of everything happening always. dirk and seb can fall prone to overstimulation easily but hal is more nothing bad can happen to me ever (WRONG. NOT USED TO DEALING WITH CONSEQUENCES). seb has mega agoraphobia more so than dirk and hal has it more than the average person.
dirk thinks its all hells of embarrassing when seb acts like himself when he was younger (specifically bc this ‘dirk’ is growing up around people who care about him so theres differences). the checklist of what counts as ok and omg CRINGE is odd. swiftly climbing people to sit on their shoulders? ok can be written off as him getting a higher vantage point. asking for a hug? pouting? doing the rabbit angry stomp thing? ………
i did say hal was less prone to overstimulation but not rlly in the same way they are. theyre more easily overstimulated in social environments but he has issues with more, general sensory inputs. he was a human that turned into a robot that turned back human. he has a hell of a time adjusting to physical textures. they r all autistic.
um last one bc this is getting long. seb has trouble seeing dirk and hal as like. actual people. the texts between wen dirk and seb are so awkward, seb says some shit about ‘awaiting orders’ and dirk doesnt know what to do with him. seb sends him pictures of his fresh kills and dirk thinks its hilarious. seb uses hal as a middle man when he wants something from dirk but is too shy to ask it bc he’s like afraid of over stepping boundaries. he constantly refers to dirk as ‘their creator’ and hal keeps telling him to quit it. hal has zero qualms about using him as a little minion to do his evil bidding.

SHAZAM SHAZAM SHAZAM pls tell us about billy batson. ive only ever seen the movies o great comic knower
Very very very VERY far from comic expert (that's brawltogethernow) but I have read a lot of Shazam. His history is actually really, really fascinating and involves more than one lawsuit that really defined very early comics. I'll focus on one thing, though.
There are two Captain Marvels: One from the 1940s to around 2013, and one from 2013 til now. The Captain Marvel you're familiar with (who is named Shazam) is from 2013. He's a more realistic, grounded character. He was created to be pretty much the polar opposite of his original version. The best summary is to say that the Wizard chose Billy Batman 1940 because he had the purest heart, and the Wizard chose Billy Batson ~2013 because he was there. My personal 'best' Shazam story is the "Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil" graphic novel by the guy who made Bone. It's good because it's for elementary schoolers yet acknowledges this small child as homeless. Which, don't get me wrong, you shouldn't always do. My personal favorite is the 1970s ones.
As some background: Otto Binder was the creator/main writer of the very early Captain Marvel comics. He was by far and away the best writer of the early Superman Silver Age comics, because all of his comics were batshit insane. Shazam has a complicated and legal history with Superman, so the 1970 run was a super fun high camp tongue in cheek reinvention of the best Silver Age stories.
So the 1970 Captain Marvel comics are insane.
I can't even summarize them without sounding crazy. Basically the conceit is that Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and Mary Marvel (Billy, Freddy, and Mary) are having 1940s Golden Age Adventures when they get somehow in suspended animation and are basically time travelled to the 1970s. This don't bother them too much. Why would it bother them. Nothing bothers these people. Nothing. I don't think anybody experiences a negative emotion in these comics. Not bc they were twee. Bc they were insane.
Many of the comics basically had three shorter comics inside it: one Billy story, one Mary story, one Freddy story. Interestingly, they all had different art styles, artists, types of story, genre, etc. Billy's stories had a cartoony art style with very over-the-top and silly plotlines that involved supervillain bad dudes. Freddy's art was slightly more realistic and was slighty more grounded, but still had some classic Marvel indescribable scifi that can best be summarized as that one meme panel people have seen where Sivana recites a science equation that lets him walk through walls. Mary's stories were much more realistically drawn and featured the most banal shit, like her starting a club with her friends. Somehow Mary Marvel gets involved in those.
Sometimes they worked together and did superhero things and fought bad guys. The average fight looked like this:
Tumblr media
Billy was a twelve year old who lived by himself, in his own apartment, had his own radio show, a full-ass job, a whole thing as Captain Marvel. He paid fucking taxes. Everybody knew this and nobody cared. He's the most affable, good natured kid on the face of the planet. Nothing bothers him. Nothing. Nothing bothers any of these people. Sivana shows up and he's BIG MAD so he's creating another death ray and Captain Marvel shows up like "Oh you rascal! Time to punch this and go back to helping my friend eat his infinite Jello."
He has a friend named Talky Tawny, who is a talking tiger wearing a suit. He also has a friend named Sunny Smiles, a person of indeterminate gender who everybody falls in love with, for unexplained and unknown reasons. Not to be confused with Freddy's friend Gregory Gosharootie, the "World's Dullest Mortal", who is so boring that nobody notices him and he keeps accidentally comitting crime. There is also an old guy named Uncle Marvel who pretends he has superpowers, which they all find funny so they just roll with it. Freddy is a disabled orphan who has to sell papers on the street corner to make a living. Mary lives in a middle class suburban home with loving foster parents. It never once seems to occur to Mary's parents to adopt Billy, for Freddy to live with Billy. Everybody is happiest this way.
I do think this is partly why a good Shazam comic has to be aimed at the 6-12yo demographics. They have to be for small children, because Billy is living a complete and utter power fantasy that only a ten year old would think is a good idea. He's a kid, and he doesn't have drag parents or a lame family, but he can turn into Superman, and he can also do magic, and everybody loves him and thinks he's the nicest person, and his supervillains are Dr. Doofenschmirtz and a worm, and his supporting cast is like okay my sister if she HAS to be involved, but also my best friend who is a paperboy! but cool because he's disabled, and….
Look, you could engage with that seriously. You could go "holy shit this is a homeless child". That's fine. That's what they do these days, and that's what they did in the movies. Nothing wrong with that. Take the story more seriously.
But also they don't give a worm the electric chair in those stories, so.
To actually give some commentary on these comics: these comics really love people. I've never seen comics that were so entrenched in their community. The kids just know everybody they meet on the street. Freddy delivers paper up and down every block, so an average story for him is just talking to a butcher or baker or old man or grumpy housewife and helping them out with some batshit problem. Mary's a sweet girl who's always starting clubs with her friends and taking on neighborhood projects. Many Billy stories involve one of his many friends falling into some trouble and Captain Marvel helping them out - or just exploring some fun with Billy hanging out with Sunny Smiles, who is a person of indeterminate gender who for some reason has magic love brainwashing powers -
This isn't the biggest #Shazam take, but I think a good Shazam story stays grounded in that. These are poor street kids who love Fawcett City so damn much. They love fighting their supervillains, but they love helping out the random guy off the street with their problems even more. Way more so than Spider-Man or a lot of other guys, I think of the Marvel family as the friendly neighborhood superheroes. They're both larger than life and street level. They're Superman level powers but they just use the powers for wrapping up their hijinks. Isn't that nice? Aren't you tired of going apeshit? Don't you just want to be nice?

respectfully i disagree, abusing exploits seem like healthy competitiveness to you? i think we shouldn't be defending toxicity just because the event is competitive. Also this isnt an average mc event its a mr beast challenge where obviously they expect players to also focus on content you know
many things, long post
abusing exploits on competitive events gets done all the time and it's presumed to be part of them. even in vanilla minecraft, or from my direct experience in competitive counter strike, you assume they will exist and you assume people will use them. because the bar for "exploits" varies from person to person in terms of their skill level, and simple things as redstone machinery to map holeing and jumping are seen as "exploits", as they are "unexpected" to the rhythm of the competition
the "abuses exploits" in the comp scene gets used under very specific circumstances ( external modding ), and the way they try to pose das as a cheater for simply knowing mc better than the rest ( or continuing to play the game because the server didn't kick him ?) is ill intended. i will not side with that type of behavior ever, in the same way i will not defend mod exploits. ( and whether he actually used any exploits or not is still up for debate, because according to him, he was simply aware it happened. the rest of the lobby whose deaths didn't count were exploiting it )
the entire situation is completely mishandled. telling someone that they are "trying too hard" to win 50k is deranged to me. i do not like das, i find him an odd personality and i know very well how he behaves. but i will not sit here and pretend all of this is fine. if jimmy beast didn't want pro players in his events, he shouldn't have "given him cord" as we say. it should have been a thing from the get-go. and if it was a problem the first time around, they shouldn't have kept him around for several events
cool, das is bad content. i agree, he is bad content. that doesn't excuse the way they are going about it. because they are utilising a shift in comp culture we have actively tried to work against, and this will not end in das. look at how ded behaved. look at how crisgreen behaved. i will not sit here and cheer for this, because this will impact the creators i like, and at the trickle down, it will impact me in my own games
this isn't toxicity. they wanted a pro player to give them content, and when he was the average pro player that is simply hyperfocused and not good content at all, they threw in the "toxic" label and said " idk you're banned figure it out " instead of being honest the first time around and saying " we want players that are more entertaining, sorry "
and we have a LONG issue with this. go look at what happened to hannah two days ago. go look at what certain butthurt male hispanic streamers said about her. it's the same fucking speech. too competitive, too toxic, this is a community event they shouldn't be here
we have been warning about this for YEARS. that using "competitive" as a label for just normal ass events ( yes this includes charity events ) would end up forcing pro players to make themselves worse, and that it would disproportionately affect women in the scene. in the same way pro sports are called "elitist" for requiring proof of skill, pro players are called "toxic" for doing the one thing they know how to do. that they have 10k 20k hours of practice on
i do not care for das one bit beyond him being a good player in the community. that's it. i don't like his playstyle and i don't enjoy his behavior. that doesn't make him toxic, or a cheater, or anything else. he's by all means the average pro player. seen them before will continue to until the end of time. but just because i don't like him doesn't mean i'll sit here cheering for the culture shift we have been fighting against because it hit someone i don't enjoy
fuck the guy for all i care. but don't invite pro players to your events and not expect them to try and win. by all means, ban them preemptively if necessary, we have never cared about that, we think it's fine, we have our own events ( that get massively shittalked too but alas ). don't bring the literal top 1% of players to your events and get offended they do good

j:DFLFDKF oKAY, huge Pebbles fan here. It's finally nice to see someone who also wants to beat Suns within every inch of his life. I actually like his character too! He's not necessarily a bad person or doesn't care about his friend. It's just his mindset is toxic and he end up dragging Pebbles down with him. He was not a health mentor for Pebbles.
Pebbles was not in a good place mentally and was spiraling hard. Then Suns hands HIM INFORMATION ON HOW tO KIlL hIMSELF?!! SFJ:K BOYO, YoU STupID?!
In the majority of interactions, we see betweeen FP and Suns... Suns needles him when he's vulnerable, fails to use his singular emotional braincell when consoling his friend, and then gives him the how-to-shoot yourself list while assuming Pebbles wouldn't attempt it?? Don't get me wrong. Pebbles isn't excused from choices.
The difference is Pebbles is young for an iterator. He's quite obviously still reeling from his literal creators/parents leaving their entire species to rot. We don't know a whole lot about Suns, but my assumption is his natural reaction to the mass ascension was cynicism. This is not a healthy attitude to project onto your mentee who's in a vulnerable state. Suns was old enough to know better. Pebbles not so much.
(Okay I know Pebbles is probably older than the average human, but his attitude has always reminded me of a young adult. Like old enough to have more or less developed his world views, but still young enough to rash decisions and not understand the implications of them until it's too late. Canonically, he's still hasn't fully matured if we consider iterators losing their perception of godhood part of growing as people. That or Pebbles just needed to be humbled Iterators may not experience enough in life to be humbled considering they're immobile calculators. So, Pebbles being stuck in that phase for longer than you'd expect isn't uncalled for.)
I don't know if I expressed any of this correctly and will probably make plenty of people mad because I'm misunderstanding Suns character or something. OH WELL HeRE"S thE RAMBLE!
i'mma actually shove you into the main tag i agree with all of this That much GJKSCKLSDMGLK PEOPLE LOOKIT THIS PEBS FAN, THEY KNOW WHAS GOOD, GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT!!!!
if anythin, i'll be standin with ya dude. fuck Suns gang rise up. like we two have basically the same idea of Suns wtf,,,

Little Moments Of Doubt
Repost Read on AO3 here.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
“This was a mistake,” Cullen said firmly “I’m sorry”
“Cullen” Kendra stressed.
He was having one of those moods again. Those moods where everything was wrong and it was all his fault yet Kendra knew it was the furthest from the truth.
“I’m sorry I shouldn’t have indulged in my fantasies I-” He stuttered.
Kendra’s heart ached. Cullen had repressed his feelings from the moment she knew him. It took him almost two years to finally accept his feelings for her. And when he finally did a sense of relief washed over them. Their friends, especially Dorian, had known it for years, yet Cullen’s fear held him back like it did now. It held him back in the bedroom too Kendra was certain that during their cuddle sessions after sex, he was praying to Andraste begging her to forgive him of his sins. It was all quite sad really. Their session last month went further than they typically went but Kendra didn’t mind - she wanted it. Creators she craved all of him inside of her burying deep inside her sweet cunt. During Dirty talk Cullen let slip that he wanted her to feel his flesh. He wanted her to feel his seed growing inside of her until she was ready to burst with child and Kendra happily indulged.
When he got up this morning for his run her handprints and bitemarks were still fresh she couldn’t help but smile at her handywork she had never experienced that level of lovemaking it was intense yet also just as passionate at the same time. She knew that it would be a while until she experienced that again him inside of her with no restrictions no condoms just flesh on flesh as The Creators had intended. He was hard at first Kendra was almost worried that he wasn’t going to fit in despite being average-sized but in the end, they finally got there.. She knew that the next time he would be on a work trip when she would be all alone stuck in their apartment that would be her masturbation material. She smirked as her eyes caught a glimpse of the still cum-stained Dildo Cullen had used on her last night. Kendra was still in the early stages of her pregnancy yet they had already needed to be more creative with positions.
Plus Cullen wouldn’t stop treating her like a delicate little flower and it was frustrating her to no end. Of course, it was nice that he cared but at the same time, she wasn’t a doll she wasn’t going to break under his touch no matter how much he had seemed to believe that. She was always aware that through each session she could have possibly ended up pregnant there was always a chance even with birth control.
While the thought of pregnancy scared her to death she also knew that Cullen would be a great father no matter what even if he didn’t quite believe it himself that was what gave her a sense of peace at night. Kendra lowered her head. She didn’t want to press any longer she knew that if she gave the option of terminating the pregnancy Cullen would say yes but then in the morning he would regret it in a heartbeat.
“Cullen…Go to sleep you’ll feel better about this in the morning” She tried to calm him.
“But what if I don’t? What if I wake up and I still feel the same way about this?” He paused and waved his hand down at her pregnant belly which wasn’t even showing yet but she couldn’t even fit into her favorite pair of jeans.
“We’re not ready to be parents Ken. We’re drowning in debt. And what if we mess up? Mess up like my Dad did. I would never forgive myself and you know that” He wailed
Kendra pulled Cullen closer even as he wallowed her fingers intertwined in his blond locks.
“Look we’ll get through this,” She said softly as she kissed his forehead gently.
“How are you so optimistic about this?” Cullen asked as he looked up at her.
Amazement sparkled in his eyes.
“You're the one who’ll actually have to give birth” He reminded her.
Kendra smiled “I’m optimistic because I know whatever The Creators have planned for us we can face it we always have. I’m lucky remember?” She asked as he tugged at her necklace with her thumb twirling around Cullen’s lucky gold coin the one that he had given to her at the lake.
“Maker your such a cheeseball” Cullen complained as he shook his head.
"There's nothing wrong about being cheesy every now and then" Kendra teased as she witnessed a soft smile grow over his lips.
“Speaking of Chese do we still have any of that Brie left Alistair bought us from Val Royeaux?” Kendra asked.
Cheese had been her first and strongest craving so far and she blamed Alistair almost entirely.
Cullen’s cheeks turned a deep shade of red “About that-”
“Cullen” Kendra whined as she swatted him gently.
Cullen got up from the bed and kissed her right cheek pulling back with a smile.
“Don’t worry dear why don’t I go to the corner shop and get you some more while I clear this head of mine?” He asked
“Alright then. I love you” She sighed as she slithered back under the warm covers.
“I love you too. The both of you my tiny little cheeseballs” Cullen murmured as he placed his hand on her stomach ever so gently.
Fine. Kendra reminded herself as her breathing slowed and sleep overtook her. They would be fine.

A bit about TikTok, a bit about sanctions... this and that :D
A small exception as I normally use this blog to post Kakashi stuff, but… since this whole situation affects my Kakashi mania…
It was quite a surprise to find out that TikTok’s parent company was actually Chinese...
I have to admit that I don’t have a full insight on how TikTok operates, but, see, since the beginning of the sad events in Ukraine TikTok had actually imposed probably the most harsh restrictions on the Russian audience among the social media platforms: Russia had been basically cut off from the rest of TikTok and TikTok content was sort of split into two parts.
Here’s how it works: if I open TikTok with no preparations, I only see content made by Russian creators around before-March-2022. And of course, I cannot post any new content.
In order to access the proper TikTok, I, as a user of iPhone who cannot hack the app itself (Android users are more lucky I guess), have to not only use VPN, but actually must also have a foreign SIM-card turned on (and as I can use two SIM-cards I have to turn off the Russian one). Again, no other social media platform had restricted our access this much.
The only other resource I know that perhaps can compete in how much they don’t want Russians around is eBay: I am unable to change the shipping address and use my account to order, even to deliver to the USA. I’ve used all my IT intelligence (it’s not that great but definitely higher than that of an average Internet user) and was only ever able to order to Kazakhstan (but even so – only as a guest – all my new accounts were promptly banned, regardless of VPN, proxy/anonymisers, etc.) which had an interesting effect and lead to a wild story of how I later retrieved my parcels from Kazakhstan 🤣
But yeah, with eBay, at least I understand. With TikTok… I think they are influenced more than they admit because damn even with Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr I can just use VPN and do what I please (even though I constantly worry that they would do something to my account – but nope. I just can’t monetize, but I don’t care about that much and I think I could potentially solve this issue if I wanted to)…
And I wouldn’t wonder about it if it wasn’t for two things:
For example, AliExpress, a huge Chinese shopping platform, never banned Russia and operates just like it did before February 2022. They generally don’t have the policy to strangle Russia as far as I understand because it took them a couple of weeks to restore payment with our cards (which are banned everywhere else in the world – I have a bank account in Kazakhstan for my foreign operations which is mildly inconvenient).
And second, which annoys me quite a bit, is that TikTok, by doing what they did, had harmed not only the spoiled Russian brats that no longer had a place to wiggle their butts in (seriously I saw those videos of those teens literally bawling about it 🤦‍♀️). But I don’t know if they realize it or not, TikTok was quite a valuable platform for fund-raising. Charity, animal shelters, surgeries, expensive medical treatment, you name it! And that was all cut off. This is what really hurt. I’d like to hope that they readjusted… but I really don’t think that even in light of everything that was fair to those whose lives relied a lot on TikTok. Alas… Politics matter above all… Whoever cared about the poor and disabled?..
So yeah, it was indeed surprising to find out about the parent company.
Anyhow, if TikTok gets banned in the USA, ask me, I’ll teach you how to bypass it 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to our world!..
I would definitely laugh if TikTok opens up to Russia out of spite, haha… But something tells me… they’ll just surrender – too much at stake.

The reason SBMM has "failed" in the past is that while objectively it is beneficial to the vast majority of players, ALL the PvP content creators are packed in the top 20-30% of the pool (probably even less than that). These players have a sense of entitlement in that because of the shear amount of time they put into the playlist, its design should cater to their needs. "I'm the one who plays this the most, therefore my voice matters" yeah, because democracy is most effective when the only people who get to vote are those who spend ALL their free time watching political speeches, right? The fact is that D2 PvP is at its best when people give zero fucks and use dumb shit like Khepri's Horn + Wave Frame GL, NOT when the exact same loadout is used over and over again like a goddamn copypasta. It infuriates me when creators complain about facing sweaty players when its like. MOTHERFUCKER that is your default playstyle even when CBMM was a thing don't act like you were a super casual dude in 6v6 you always played that shit like it was Trials. And the thing is that their fans are gonna start thinking that SBMM is bad even if it makes their experience objectively better, because they just repeat what their favorite content creator says without forming their own opinion.
Yeah pretty much this. It also doesn't only affect Destiny either. This mentality is pervasive throughout gaming. People who play video games for a living trying to assert that their enjoyment is the only thing that matters. That just doesn't make a single sense: Bungie, and any other company, wants to make money. They make money if people play the game. They want more people to play the game. The game has to be accessible for the lowest common denominator. It's literally that simple.
Also same, I am very confused about these people not wanting to "play sweaty" in every match because:
They are self-titled pvp pros. I though competition is the point? How are you proving you're a pro if you're stomping blue gear baby lights?
They play sweaty anyway? I don't see them doing anything other than meta, ever. I'm not exactly seeing these pros screwing around with meme loadouts in their games. I don't see them being last on the leaderboard. I don't see them being playful with others.
Matches are "sweaty" for normal players ALL THE TIME. When these pros talk about "sweaty" matches, they don't seem to understand that the rest of us do not have the luxury to stop sweating in pvp. Every match I get put into requires me to sweat my hardest so I can finish my bounties so I can get my pinnacle. They are so used to matches not being sweaty because their opponents have 0.6 kd. Meanwhile, my opponents are either on my skill level or above. Very rarely do I get a match with people below my skill level. And when I do, I just mow them down and mercy them and wow, it wasn't a sweaty match. And that sucks. If I want to mow down enemies, I'll play a strike.
Not even getting into the big chunk of people who have disabilities. To them, every match was not just sweaty, it was impossible. I genuinely do not care about 0.1% of the players who are pros and how difficult pvp is for them. It's equally difficult for them now as it is difficult for average players ALL THE TIME. And arguably, a new player or an average player or someone with disabilities will always have it harder than some content creator whose job is to play video games. I am sorry, but I have no sympathy for the 1% crying, pissing and shitting about how pvp will be hard now. As the gamers says: git gud.
Tumblr media
I hope so too. I hope they keep improving the system and that pvp ends up being enjoyable to everyone. I probably sounds like a huge pvp hater, but I actually enjoy pvp and competitive games. The problem is that I have no drive to participate if the odds are stacked against me before I even load in and if those odds cannot be improved by me.
Pvp is otherwise an enjoyable passtime for me. Especially when made accessible: being able to solo in Trials and to have Freelance weeks has been incredibly fun for me. I actively enjoy Freelance Trials. I also actively enjoyed Iron Banner with Rift mode as soon as I got done with the annoying triumphs (got Iron Lord in one week!). I really hope that these changes (or some version of them) become a standard for other modes (Trials desperately needs a fix on matchmaking, too many times I am on 1st win on my card and I get enemies who are on their win for the Lighthouse).
Tumblr media
Yep! They added a test run of it this season, to Control. They're monitoring statistics and overall reception and will prolong the testing for now. It's only in Control currently, but depending on how it goes, it may be spread to other modes as well. From the initial reports, it seems to be well-received by like, normal people. There's always a room for improvement of course, the system isn't fully done so there will probably still be hiccups and issues. Hopefully it smooths out in time.

Okay wait a min! You know how like the abyss mages and the hilichurls are all like in the lore to be part of khanriah and in general they’re the ones to quickly recognize that the imposter is the creator and they protect us and stuff? So like does that people of Kahnriah has some special ability to recognize us? So wouldn’t that make kaeya, albedo, dainself to recognize us? (Sorry I’m absolutely struggling to spell kahenriah)
Also I had a thought how does our interactions with Dainslef go? Like typically in imposter aus he doesn’t seem to care much about the creator. But if he’s met with the actual creator would he protect them? But like personally I think he would hate them at first for what they did to Kahenriah but slowly comes to care and love them? Because he begins too see and realize this is truly the creator when they see how Teyvat bends to their will and stuff
(Also could I be 🦑 anon?)
YOU X2.
i know i’m guilty of this trope but in truth i never thought about it that much. i suppose i was operating under the assumption that it’s the same as the animals or the wind: they just Know. the people do too, but due to humanity having silly little things called critical thought, doubt, and generally more than one thought at a time, the acolytes don’t follow the slight buzz in their skin when they’re near you. if anything they assume it’s adrenaline.
but like. hilichurls clearly do have thought left—they have language and some sort of society, clearly… hm- you know how in the chasm quest it’s said they’re like eternally cursed or something-? let’s assume the creator lightens that pain, making their existence more bearable. this is something they know to be impossible except by the divine, and they don’t have loyalty to the false god, ergo you must be their god!
abyss mages are mages, so i’m gonna assume they’re a bit more tuned into their elements/the leylines/general auras or whatever. for this same reason i don’t think mona would join the hunt, but that’s for another day.
in addition! they’re affected by the abyss itself, which is just more “you lighten this impossibly heavy curse i have. hey god.” but like more reverent.
now. onto the more human khaenri’ahns.
dainslef is canonically afflicted by the Curse from before and i imagine he is more familiar with your visage/behavior/attitude/powers/whatever simply due to his age and all the time he must have spent studying holy books. also, though he is a Human Person—and hence suffers from the lifelong condition known as critical thought—he’s definitely more likely to follow his instincts. cokes with the territory of being the twilight sword, i suppose.
albedo is. hm. he’s not a child of khaenri’ah- it’s up for debate whether he’s khaenri’ahn at all, really. he was created by rhine, who was khaenri’ahn…. but he held no part in the calamity 500 years ago, and nor does khaenri’ahn blood run in his veins—he’s a child of alchemy, synthetic. he also isn’t canonically cursed. however, as an alchemist—and doubly so for a student of khemia—i’m certain he has a higher interest than average in the creator. whereas dainslef would know you’re you by your kindness, your speech, the way you talk and all your mannerisms, i think albedo would figure it out by how the world acts around you. the spike in leyline flow, the suddenly perfect weather, the way the wind always blows behind you, how the flowers and plants around you are the healthiest.
kaeya… is an interesting case. he’s khaenri’ahn by blood, yet isn’t cursed to my knowledge. i think, like albedo, he’s more likely to realize the difference in how the world treats you. he’s an observant and clever guy, i’m certain he can put two and two together. less on the technical side than albedo… but he’ll notice how the weather suddenly sours before one of the knights’ patrol, how their luck seems to be as bad as bennett’s when searching for you.
moving onto the second part of your ask,,,
because i want people to be happy i have somewhat… creatively interpreted what happened in khaenri’ah during the calamity. obviously every version of sagau is going to be different, but because i dearly adore both kaeya and albedo, here’s my version of events(copied and paraphrased off my post on the subject for ease of reading):
khaenri’ah was built entirely by people. they did worship you, but refused to allow you to meddle with their nation. you could have all of teyvat but you could not have their nation. they lived underground, away from your holy light, and in the dark of a cave with only the earth as their witness, they began to learn khemia. they began to learn how to create, how to mimic your power. theirs was more transmutation, less pure creation, but it was so close to it that rhinedottir let it get to her head.
that glosses over some details, but it’s enough for this discussion.
in my version of sagau, he would definitely protect the creator. he wouldn’t worship the one on the throne, nor would he engage in the hunt (because he knows both are lies), but if you happened to ran into him, you would be safe.
to reiterate: in my version, khaenri’ah collapsed under its own hubris. hence, dainslef would have no reason to dislike you. be awkward, yeah, he hasn’t had an intelligent conversation with another person since the traveller, and before that it was 500 years.
that being said, he could be a bit resentful, even if he didn’t blame you. after all, you didn’t stop rhine, you didn’t do anything to keep the calamity from occurring. yeah it’s because khaenri’ah staunchly refused to have you involved no he hasn’t put it together yet. give him time.
of course, though, this is all my opinion and carries no actual weight.
oh, and welcome!

Ohh could i get an obey me matchup if u have time? :D
Appearance: i’m afab, tall but skinny like a noodle, still have curves tho. i have light brown hair and dull blue eyes i’m pale af and have a slightly larger than average number of moles. i have had purple under-eyes since i was 12 they are never going away
Personality: professionally i’m doing well but every other area of my life is in shambles lmfao. still live with my parents can’t drive depressed as hell and barely any relationship experience💀i hate responsibility but i’m still responsible because i hate letting people down. i make a conscious effort to always meet deadlines and show up to meetings on time and it bothers me when other people don’t. but still i’m pretty lenient with others and give them the benefit of the doubt. i am fairly whimsical and quite unbothered by everything. not afraid to push boundaries and attempt things no one has done before, when ppl tell me my goals sound unrealistic it just motivates me more
Strengths/weaknesses: good at drawing and school, graduated college with a 4.0 gpa and a bunch of honors and stuff, and i am the creator of several viral posts and quizzes. good at taking advantage of opportunities that come my way. and i can see humor in everything i love to laugh. i’m kinda irony poisoned and struggle with sincerity, but i’m also an open book i don’t rly have anything to hide. i always talk pretty casually with people no matter who they are but i get away with it cuz i’m smart and good at my job or something. i may come across as impulsive but i do think through everything i do and say, i’m just a fast thinker. i’ve been told i’m too trusting but i haven’t been hurt yet sooo idc ^_^
Likes/dislikes: i am fan of any kind of creative hobby. i like being in nature and interacting with animals but i’m also a pwetty pwincess who hates getting dirty. i hate doing chores and paying for stuff too 💅🏻 i avoid drama and conflict like the plague, though i enjoy it as a spectator. and i hate office jobs, specifically because i work very efficiently then have to pretend to be productive for my dumbass boss when i finish everything early. i love to hang out with people even if it’s something boring like running errands. for some reason people think i don’t like hugs or texting but i do :( i constantly crave novelty i love new experiences
Other: when i really like someone i’ll take an interest in their interests and memorize every little thing i learn about them to the point where i gotta play dumb sometimes so i don’t sound overly invested. we would probably have to have a strong friendship as a foundation cuz u gotta be patient with my repressed ass. i don’t have a lot of preferences for dates so i’d be happy doing whatever they want, i’m v indecisive so it would be good for both of us if they like taking the lead

Tumblr media Tumblr media
꩜ Never a dull moment when your around him.
꩜ The two of you are a funny duo, to say the least. If it were possible, it would be like you taking care of a leash kid.
꩜ Not to worry, with this jackass over by your side, he will make you forget about your depression with his bullshit and shenanigans! That’s right, The Great Mammon himself! >;D👍✨ ((plz don’t take this too seriously..))
꩜ When it comes to you, he might as well not have any experience either. When others look at you, sometimes they think you’re the one who knows the ropes even if that’s not the case at all.
꩜ He’s supposed to keep an eye on you, but the fact of the matter is that it got twisted real quick and you ended up responsible for him instead. You keep him in check when it comes to his studies and duties he must finish. Oh what’s that? Sike! Even if you didn’t want to, he’ll beg you to help him out before Lucifer catches a whiff that he failed a test for the 1738929th time.
꩜ You’re motivated to want to improve yourself, so why would t you want the same for those you care about? No matter how hopeless someone is, surely there’s always a way!
꩜ Doesn’t matter how much he tries to hide something he did wrong though, Lucifer knows way before he himself does. So you’ll often see him upside down hanging from a ceiling. He temps you first before resorting to begging you to help him out again.
“Are ya takin’ me seriously, human?!”
— “Pfft- Yea yea of course!👌” nah, not really
꩜ As time passes by though, he starts catching your drift slowly without being told what to do. Simply wanting to get your attention and praise is enough to have him determined to want to do better. So in a way, both of you help each other out to get yourselves organized; May it be your actions or mental state. Thriving forward because of it.
꩜ He appreciates you never me giving up on him, thinking about it makes him soft and weak.. He’ll never admit it though! Not the Great Mammon himself! Not in a million years! Pretty obvious tho..
꩜ He, too, is an open book; not on purpose though. He tries to hide it but ultimately just reveals even more.
꩜ But It’s funny watching you two play dumb with each other when it comes to the other’s interests. He is just as invested in what you like — or perhaps even more — like you are with his.
“Oh, you like -insert hobby-? Ha, lame!” *Proceeds to look up everything there is to know about it*
꩜ Lovely to know you like to hang out, cuz best believe this guy is stuck to you like glue. He might try to come up with an excuse as to why he just barged into your room or sent you some random message, but it’s all bs. He just wants to be with you even if there’s no reason. He just really enjoys your company.
꩜ On days he gets paid, He’ll say he’s feeling generous and willing to spoil indulge you a bit. You better be grateful to the Great Mammon! Whenever you go shopping, he’ll keep an eye out for anything you might glance at, even if it was just for a brief moment.
꩜ And even if it’s rare coming from you, he’ll immediately sense if there’s greed coming from you. So he’ll buy you whatever it is that you want so badly! *cough* you just glanced at it.. *cough*

Tumblr media
info under cut ^w^ although warning i use Punctuation and it is Out Of Character for me JLDNFSKDNJNSDKS
also hella long. not smth u wanna misclick
So. Sticks can be programmed right
There's this guy. Programmer. Spends all their time creating paradoxical programs -or turning well known paradoxes into programs- to see what'll happen.
They tackle a couple famous ones. The omnipotent being paradox, the barber one, the Pinocchio one, etc. But they also make up their own- one of which is Prod.
Prod's paradox is, after an amount of time determined by RNG, to betray any trust the other side has with it in a relationship. "Trust" being anything they've grown to expect from bug, anything they can rely on bug to do. Removing it would make the whole thing collapse; annoyingly, several unrelated lines that allow exe to function reference the traitor code, and by the time you redefined everything so it would continue living normally, its memories and personality would be overwritten.
How is betrayal a paradox? When you betray someone, you create trust that you two are now opposed. There's a mutual agreement to be against each other now. More trust to betray, even if it is negative. And betraying it would come in the form of really, genuinely taking it back- just as earnest as your betrayal was- and then going back and forth in a kind of limbo.
It betrays itself too, but not often- since it hardly trusts itself to be able to carry something out without interrupting itself and doing the exact opposite, bugs Traitor Code(trademarked copyright pending) triggering while bug's alone is quite rare. However, if exe was to make any attempt to rid itself of the code, it's guaranteed to betray itself halfway through- instilled as a failsafe by the programmer in case it grew defiant fOr SoMe rEaSoN
Surely, you might think, that if exe warned people that it was made this way, a couple of them might understand?
This creates a trust in the other person that they will be betrayed. And so, betraying this trust would mean not doing anything at all, meaning they grow more and more anxious of the betrayal they've been warned against, all the while growing closer to Prod as time passes, which just gives them more anxiety because the closer they are to exe, the more bugs betrayal will hurt them. It never comes, and so, in fear, most quit while they're ahead and leave bug first.
Yeowch.
To observe this paradox in the wild, our asshole programmer guy puts Prod inside a little simulated mini-society, a small town of mindless, bland sticks with about as much realistic emotion as your average videogame NPC. They're used for small-scale social experiments and reset quite often as the programmer switches from experiment to experiment, and so their AI never has much time to develop.
Prod's life in the PC sucks. It's inevitably hurting everyone it tries to bond with, and when bug ends up trying to quarantine bugself for everyone else's sake, exes just forced back into public by the programmer. It's let out of the simulation every now and then for mental health breaks and to have some. ahem. pleasant conversation with exes creator, but they hardly last long.
What the programmer doesn't realise though, is a fatal flaw in its code. Exe is built to betray anyone they have any sort of relationship with- including exes creator, however bitter their relationship may be.
So, one fateful break, exe slips away and never comes back. It's what it was made to do.
Nowadays it lives on the outskirts of Some Town Somewhere, trying its best to appear dull and uninteresting so no one ever talks to it -since drawing the line between "person I've talked to" and "person I have a relationship with" is difficult, and experimenting to try to figure it out hurts more people than exe's comfortable with.
Bug's taken a liking to botany, since even animals are risky to interact with, and spends a majority of bugs time taking care of bugs plants and painting in bugs room.
Open to asks as always! ^^

Eggman constantly junks his creations if they outlive their usefulness or simply don't meet his standards. While the average badnik has the average intelligence of a Roomba and probably wouldn't even care about scrapped, but can you imagine how devastated Metal Sonic would feel when it's his turn to hit the junkyard, especially since he's eggman's Magnum Opus? He faithfully served eggy for years only to eventually get punted into the junkyard.(He would probably be all like "No master no, I can still serve you")
I mean probably Metal dreamed of Eggman creating a wonderful Robot Kingdom (Eggman Empire) where he faithfully rules at Eggman's side as his second-in-command/general where robots live in splendor and glory. Imagine how confused he felt in the Bad Futures of Sonic CD where his robot brethren live in squalor, slowly rusting and turning into scrap🤖💀
It definitely depends on the robots' level of intelligence for how badly they'd be affected but there are ones that would recognize they were used and then thrown away carelessly. Metal would be one of those and would probably expect that Eggman would never permanently rid of him, he thinks he'll always come back for him and repair him and keep him because he's been loyal to him for as long as he can remember. (As Eggman would erase the memories of times he tried to betray him.)
But his time would be up eventually, I imagine after Sonic is dead and gone and every other major threat to him and his empire is eliminated, possibly with the help of Metal. Then he's the last reminder of Sonic's existence that Eggman would enjoy giving everyone for a while as he's no more while a superior version created by himself remains. But eventually he would want to have all the focus and power to himself alone, so everyone only things about him and nobody gets to bask in his glow.
So once Metal has fully served his purpose, Eggman would stop giving attention and focus until he wears down and breaks and isn't repaired ever again and decides his time is up and tosses him. He doesn't hesitate or feel remorse and Metal would certainly be surprised by it. It would finally be Eggman's turn to betray him like he has to him more than once, to make sure there's no chance of it ever happening again as now that every other threat is gone, he won't risk the smallest chance of Metal becoming another.
It certainly seems like Metal expects he'll be a part of the picture in Eggman's victory and they'll be a glorious robot kingdom. As long as he's loyal he only wants to be at his master's side, continuing to serve him well. But everyone and everything is temporary and are mere tools to Eggman to use until they're no longer needed and then he throws them away like they were nothing. Nobody is supposed to share a fraction of his spotlight and power, he's too greedy and power hungry to ever allow it.
Maybe one reason Metal betrayed Eggman those times is due to how he treated him, seeing glimpses and warnings of his behavior and mindset. Also through his treatment and the conditions of other robots when they end up in a bad future CD type state. So he decided he'd take the reigns, which is why as Neo Metal he said it would be fitting to have a robot ruler for a robot Kingdom. He saw himself as the rightful ruler because his human creator is cruel and uncaring to him and fellow robots.
Eggman probably erased those memories from him so he wouldn't remember and get any ideas of trying to betray him again. Though Metal would eventually realize the same harsh truth when he succeeds in dominating the world and starts to leave robots to waste like bad future for real and is careless when they're broken down and suffering as they're just machines made to serve him until they're done. But this time Metal doesn't get the chance to betray him after realizing this because Eggman acts first.
Plus Metal is now programmed with less ability and freedom that he had back then in the right position to betray him like he could back then. And now he can't even speak to beg him for mercy and promise him he'd be good and keep working hard for him if he spares him. Not that it would change Eggman's mind if he could anyway and would find his attempts as amusing as he finds him not being able to say anything at all. Once he's decided he needs to go, he won't change his mind.
So it's off to the junk pile for the last reminder of his fallen enemy he now wants to be forgotten entirely and his last possible subject of betrayal eliminated. As impressive and useful of a creation that Metal was, there's no way he was going to risk the chances of losing everything he's fought so hard for, even if the chances of him turning on him again are low. And he wants it all to himself even without loyal underlings too high and powerful alongside him, there's simply no place for them in the end.

In general I feel that most adaptations are terrible, and, at least for all modern adaptations, exist purely to make money for a studio desperate to become "The Next Big Thing™". Now by and large I don't particularly care; does it suck that The Witcher ended up being a super boring political slog instead of a fun monster of the week adventure with a girl and her parents? Sure, but I'm not a part of the The Witcher fandom, most book/game fans recognize the show is shit, and by and large its skipped the public consciousness such that it makes little no impact on much. In fact, The Witcher might, if anything, shed light on creators crapping all over existing IPs to make a name for themselves by using a preexisting IP as a resume to make the things they actually want to make.
Wheel of Time I have no investment in, having never watched the show or read the books, but I'm given to understand that by and large, its fairly universally disliked, and that the book fans are disappointed but largely unaffected by it's current crapness except to note its crapness and move on.
That's not to say that these sort of shit adaptations aren't disappointing; they certainly are, but because the two fandoms were largely unknown in the public conscious, and bad enough that even the most "normy" of people skipped by them, their effect on the existing IP is little.
Star Wars is it's own sort of hell, because while the characters I love are mostly safe (thanks in large part to Disney deciding to write their own stories, thereby inadvertently saving my characters from a fate worse than death), the utter crapness of the current DisneyWars saturates enough of my online fandom life to be mildly annoying in that I can't avoid it. But also, people who are obsessed with Ezra or think that Ashoka Tano are the best thing ever don't bother me much, bc in the Star Wars I knew and loved, these people never existed.
Tolkien is different in a way that is often hard to express, but I think it comes down to both his feelings about his stories, and also the general view of the public. I've had this argument with people a million times, that while yes, the books will always exist, with the current way that media is consumed, the amount of people who have actually read ANY Tolkien at all is smaller than you'd think. I've stumbled across countless posts from people talking about how they are huge Lord of the Rings fans, and have never even read Fellowship.
Now, I'm fully aware that there are people who will be offended by this so called "gatekeeping", but I remain baffled by the sheer number of Tolkien fans who have never actually consumed any of his written works. I'm aware that the Silmarillion is dense, and I'm certainly not about to recommend HoMe to the average reader, but the number of people who speak with authority (and incorrectly) on the themes of his works that have never read past Rivendell is astounding.
And the issue is, by and large, Tolkien is known now more by the Lord of the Rings movies made in the early aughties than he is by the works he wrote. Christopher Tolkien worked tirelessly to ensure that this father's authentic work would be persevered, that anything published posthumously would adhere so strictly to the vision of his father that large chunks remain unwritten to this day.
And then Amazon comes in and bulldozes over everything, and we are asked to be okay with it. More than that, we are asked to accept it, to stop being worried or concerned about it, to just shut up and live with it.
It doesn't matter if you like Rings of Power. It doesn't matter if you have never read a single Tolkien book in your life. It doesn't matter if you think Tolkien is an overblown writer who cared too much about nature and language and not enough about stories (an argument I have sadly seen far too much). The fact remains that Rings of Power and its writers did not give a single fuck about writing anything close to what Tolkien wrote or would have wanted. Rings of Power is crafted to be a resume for it's showrunners on their next steps to Hollywood, and attempt to create the next "GOT", the next Big Thing that will garner them enough fame and attention to let them do what they really want in Hollywood. The show cares nothing for it's source material--that much is clear from the handling of the characters, the butchering of the timelines, the mere fact that they seem to have not even given a single thought to theme or message or meaning.
And while sure, I will always have Tolkien's works for myself and those people who actually love Tolkien, and not the visual representations of his works, butchered onscreen (and yes, I do mean the Jackson movies as well), by and large with the passage of time, Tolkien will come to mean less the stories loving written of a world he envisioned, and more to mean the corporate schlock turned out for profit or the lovingly misguided fan interpretation of one of the greatest fantasy stories of all times, at least to the larger public conscious.
I will never feel bad about my criticism of Rings of Power. Never. Because it wasn't created for anything more than corporate greed and resume building, and each new fact revealed cannot convince me otherwise.
Celeborn is merely the longest in a long line of characters who are victims to a story that uses their names but not their likeness, not their soul, not who they are to the story they were used to create. At this point, it doesn't even make me mad, it makes me sad. The Second Age has always been important to me, for the stories it told and the characters it created, and watching it be handled like this hurts. And I doubt it will ever stop.

Can you elaborate on the part where you said that takada is a watered down version of light? I'm quite interested.
Absolutely! This is going to be a sugar mega-long stream-of-consciousness response so expect it to be scattered, not proofread and repetitive. So everything I write, basically. Also, I'm ancient.
This is likely an unpopular opinion, but I do believe that if Light had found the notebook at a later age (as an adult, he's 23 by the end of the series so let's pick that number) things would have been different. In the series, Light finds the notebook when he's 17 and still in school. He goes from an average kid to a mass-murderer, almost overnight. The consequences are sever, the impact that would have on a child's conscious - this cannot be denied.
I don't care if he's "almost 18". There is a gigantic difference in the mentality of an 18 year old and a 23 year old. It doesn't matter how intelligent Light is; being book-smart does not gain you real-world experiences. It also does not mean that he's mature simply because he's a genius.
So, why discuss this? Well - When Takada uses the notebook (and even gets tangled up in this mess to begin with) she's already 24. That's a lot of time to think about your future and mature. You can also take into account that scientifically, women do tend mature slightly faster than men. This isn't an "anti-men" post by the way - I love men, too. Though I do love women more. It's just science and not applicable to "everyone" but it's definitely common, what tends to happen.
My reasoning for calling Takada a "watered-down version of Light" which was poor wording on my part anyways, is more of how I see Takada and think, "This is what could have been - for Light?" If Light found the notebook at a later age, would he use it? Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't. That's up to your personal opinion and only the creator can answer that as a fact. Personally, I don't think he would. At 17 he made the decision to use the notebook, out of boredom. He was still a child and killed out of that very same boredom, and curiosity. He didn't think about HIS future, or the consequences of HIS actions until after he'd done it. And he becomes okay with it pretty fuckin' quickly, yeah? At 24 I'm sure he would have a lot more to lose. At 24 his mind has had the time to mature, he has had some experiences, he now has a fantastic job working alongside the greatest detective and I think if he found the notebook at this time, he would bring it to L. In this AU, I feel there's no reason he would have had to see L's face (same with the taskforce - there's no Kira, so no need for any Kira-related task force) so it would have been L talking through a laptop. Either way, he simply has too much to lose at this point to warrant trying out the notebook. Light's not like Higuchi. If given more time "alone" with the death note (let's say here, he doesn't immediately turn it over to L or whomever) I think the temptation would be there, but I don't think he'd do it. I feel at this point he would of course be working alongside his father, so he would still meet Matsuda, Aizawa, Mogi and the other two nobody cares about - I'm sure he would stick close with Matsuda as they were the closest in age and "Good Light" and Matsuda had the same feelings on Kira before, so I'm sure they would have similar back-and-forth discussions of morality on whether or not the notebook should be used for good. At this point, however, the notebook's not in his hands, so he has no opportunity to test it out. It would be in L's possession from here on out.
To say "Takada is a watered-down Light" is inaccurate, what I should have said was, "Takada is showing a possibility of what Light could have been, if he found the notebook at a later age".

Also, Takada's just very cool and interesting to me, and unfortunately suffered at the hands of just having a bad writer. She could have had a lot of potential in being horrifying. That scene where she's having dinner with Misa, snaps and conceals her evil laughter? I dunno, I just...THAT'S what I wish we could have seen more of.

cis people making movies about trans people like
this cis actor who dared to get into the mindset of a depressed, self-hating ugly weirdo with no other defining characteristics or plot is so brave and deserves awards for crossdressing
the writing/directing team also deserve awards for going out of their comfort zone and making something so totally unrelatable to us all that we can gawk at and say "so sad" about
I'm going to look in a mirror and hate myself while naked (but in a voyeuristic way, as if self-aware that there's a cinema full of cis people who will be watching this scene with binoculars)
more nudity - even if I'm literally portrayed by a child, my complete nudity exists to convince you, The Cis Viewer, that I am Not The Sex I Present Myself As
"lying" - "pretending" - "delusional" - "phase" - "sick" -- repeat one of these words or synonyms thereof every 5 minutes
an inventive array of hatecrimes
these cis actors portraying trans people have literally harassed and abused trans people in real life
more sympathy for the family and friends who reject, mock, and possibly violently assault the trans character, than for the trans character
more self-hating nudity, just in case the first time around wasn't enough for you, gotta make sure you get your money's worth
characters talking about the trans character, while that character is in the room, in ways that are dehumanising - within the context of the movie, it's not considered dehumanising
ok for a change let's boldly explore the idea that this kid character isn't trans, but it's all a phase, which makes all the violence and rejection worth it
also no awareness of the real overlaps between gay and trans communities - never shall the twain meet, because we've done literally no research and nobody trans was spoken to once and actually the director lowkey doesn't believe in trans people
"this director thinks all trans people are misguided, self-hating gay people" propaganda
all this character thinks about and cares about is their body, all day and every day, because we don't actually know how to write this character (because once again: being trans is totally unrelatable to normal people)
this movie made in the 90s with cis actors is actually better than this movie made in 2016 with a cis actor because it cared about narrative and character-writing and community-focus as the entry point, which weirdly enough makes for an actual story and not 2 hours of navel-gazy hyper-pretentious artistic nude shots
2 hours of navel-gazy hyper-pretentious artistic nude shots. bonus points if the movie is depressing as hell too
everyone is either in a boring middle-class household or a sex-worker. at least the sex-worker might have some trans friends... might
trans people are lonely and alone. they know nobody else who is trans and never seek trans community. they are sad. and also alone, did we mention how lonely and alone all trans people are?
cis actor shows up to the award's show looking aggressively gendered to fend off any accusations that they're anything but all-man/all-woman
cis actor makes a tearjerky speech about how we have to all love and support one another that hundreds of abusers of power sniffle to. there are no out trans creators or artists in the crowd
this sexual abuser of trans women says he hopes he'll be the last cis man to portray a trans woman while getting his award... he is not (nor does his career suffer at all for the abuse)
compares trans people to trees, which is fair because we're written with about the same amount of pathos on average
is this trans actress getting hired in big productions after appearing in this award-winning film/show? I haven't seen her in anything in years...
