#but you are completely correct shinichi

Spoilers file 1116!
So from the few bits i read and understood it was Ran's idea to bring Heiji and Kazuha on top of that mountain so that Heiji can confess to Kazuha! She chose this place on purpose cause she knew Momiji would interfere and would be discouraged to climb a mountain that high and would stop half-way cause there are no lift, also she couldn't join them cause she had a Karuta match on this day apparently. Then Kazuha asks Ran what she wanted to tell her and that's when Ran says that she and Shinichi are officially a couple and that she felt sorry that she didn't told her sooner. Kazuha start to get teary-eyed and tell her "Thank god! Ran-Chan, you completely stopped talking about Kudo and i was afraid that something bad happened between you two 🥹!". Afterwards i didn't understood very well cause the translation on Twitter sucks but i think Kazuha knows what Ran is trying to do about her and Heiji and teases Ran about it being an obsession (again i'm not really sure of the translation) and Ran says that she thought too much about it so she called Shinichi (YES SHE CALLED SHINICHI) to be sure of her supposition and Shinichi answered by saying "If my conclusions are correct, there is no doubt about Hattori's love for Kazuha-chan!", then Ran adds up something Shinichi said and Conan thought "I didn't went that far!!" 😆.

Note
I have been imagining Kazuha trying to play matchmaker with Heiji and Shinichi. Like Shinichi takes a temporary antidote for some case with Heiji and Kazuha is like "Knows Heiji's chance!!"
Heiji can deduce that Kazuha is acting strange and giving hints to... something? He is definitely missing just one important clue... (his crush on Shinichi that he is oblivious to)
Shinichi, having an outside perspective, has made the deduction that at the very least Kazuha thinks Heiji is attracted to him. Now to see if she's correct... (try to fluster Heiji on purpose)
i missed the part where you said its a temporary antidote. ended up writing an entire paragraph about my own headcanon ToT
under the assumption that shinichi permanently got his body already, there's two route where this could go
Heiji is immediately flustered. Shinichi is amused by this -> They start dating
Heiji being completely oblivious to Shinichi's advance cuz his shinichi-is-my-bro-bff-no-homo mental barrier is too thick. Shinichi grows increasingly frustrated, now he is taking it as a challenge! "Just you wait I'm definitely going to get him to admit he is crushing on me 💢💢" After a bunch of very obvious advances Heiji starts laughing, "What's this Kudo? Didcha lose a bet? Or do ya have a crush on me?" Shinichi internally fuming 'ME? YOU'RE THE ONE THAT'S HEAD OVER HEEL FOR ME-' but no way he can say that out loud, he will end up sounding like some narcissist! A moment of introspection, still is it that far off? He already spent a month flirting with is supposedly best friend. Would a normal guy really go to that extent just to mess with his friend? What's the end goal anyway? So what if Hattori admits he has a crush on him, what is he going to do with that information? Well Hattori's smile is pretty cute actually, dating does not sound too bad- by talos this can't be happening. -> proceeded by a bunch of hysterical miscommunication and misunderstanding moments

Kaishin undercover Kaito ficlet
Hello! I’ve had some new follows recently AND I wanted to write something silly and quick after the chaos marathon of ksbb fic writing, so have an incredibly self-indulgent snippet of Kaito being hot and Shinichi being very put out about it. Post-canon pre-slash
---
In Shinichi's defense, he hadn't been thinking about the personal consequences when he'd made the suggestion. He'd been thinking about catching a murderer.
Story of his life, really.
"I need your help with a case," he'd told Kaito.
Because who else would he ask when he needed someone young, male and decently attractive to go undercover in a night club as bait for a sting operation? Kaito was a master of disguise, an adrenaline junkie of the highest order and a man completely capable of defending himself if anything went wrong. He was the most logical choice, and he owed Shinichi a favour, besides.
The worst part was how long it took Shinichi to realize what he'd done to himself.
---
Kaito arrived exactly on time, letting himself into the house without bothering with normal human things like knocking. Or a door key. "Shinichi?"
"In the kitchen!" Shinichi called back, not looking up from the text he was writing to Takagi. "Division 1's ready to move out on my signal."
"You know," Kaito's voice preceded him down the hall. "Playing bait for a fetish murderer isn't my usual definition of a fun Friday night."
"No," Shinichi agreed dryly. "You'd rather antagonize the police force instead."
Kaito laughed as he stepped into the kitchen. "Okay, fair. And at least I'm going to look good while doing it."
Shinichi snorted, glancing up with a mocking smirk. "You think style is a white top hat and a mono...cle."
His words clattered off into awkward silence, as Shinichi realized that he had made a grave error.
Because interacting with the Kaitou KID in a hundred different disguises over the years was in no way sufficient preparation for the reality of seeing Kaito - his Kaito - wearing trendy, far too-well-fitted club clothes with his fetchingly dishevelled hair perfectly framing a face rendered utterly devastating by makeup that enhanced rather than hid those familiar features.
Shinichi stared, unable to help himself.
Kaito caught the look and raised an eyebrow. "What? Too much? Not enough?" To Shinichi's slow-dawning horror, he put one hand on his hip, the graceful weight shift making Shinichi uncomfortably aware of just how lithe and smoothly muscled Kaito's long, long legs were. Those jeans were far too tight. "I can put on something else if you don't think this will do it, but I draw the line at hotpants. The quest for justice can only demand so much."
Shinichi was still staring. He wrenched his eyes away with an effort, fighting to get his mind back on task. "It's fine. Are you ready to go?"
Kaito rolled his eyes. "Yes, because that's what your reaction signified."
"I was distracted by the fact that your hair looks even messier than usual," Shinichi said, in a passable imitation of his usual deadpan. "I didn't even know that was possible."
Predictably, Kaito squawked and lifted his hands protectively towards his hair. The motion made the tiniest tantalizing sliver of his toned stomach appear beneath the lifted hem of his unfairly snug shirt. "Excuse you? You and your cowlicks do not get to judge. I am artfully tousled, thank you very much!"
"Keep telling yourself that. Let's get moving," Shinichi added, standing and striding for the door before Kaito could tell him - loudly and at length - why he was wrong. "It's getting late."
"My hair looks great," Kaito grumbled as he swept past. There was glitter on his cheekbones. Shinichi hated everything. "Heathen."
Shinichi followed silently. The only other option was to admit that Kaito was, for once, 100% correct, which wouldn't do at all.   At least focusing on the soft, tousled mass of Kaito's hair and how much he wanted to sink his hands into it was better than getting distracted by the sight of Kaito's ass in those jeans.
Shinichi was in so much trouble.

Hi fellow DC veteran! I normally only lurk on Tumblr and have never posted anything, but, I saw that you kept apologizing about complaining about the latest chapter and where the story is at right now (and has been for many years), and thought I should send this. There is absolutely no need to apologize, as I know so many fans feel EXACTLY the same way, and I actually appreciate you putting that perspective out there among all the chaos. I have also spent my whole life following this story, and it breaks my heart to see where it is at right now, and the complete disregard for our amazing main character. I have been a fan of DC for 23 years now, and Shinichi has always been my favourite character, and always will be. I don't care how many other "cool" characters get added to the series, because he will always be number 1 for me. There is no one else like him <3 I don't care about ANYTHING that has to do with Akai, Amuro or all the other stuff/characters they bring along with them. I didn't mind when Akai was more of an actual side character, but now I can't stand how these characters that mean nothing to me are front and centre. Btw, I love your undying love for Shinichi and ShinRan. Your old posts about them make my day and remind me why I am still here after all these years. I am only here because I love them, and honestly, DON'T THEY DESERVE TO BE HAPPY ALREADY??
So, I was not expecting Kaito Kid to be in chapter 1100 either, though I knew it would be something disappointing. I don't care that Amuro is there and that actually makes things worse for me. Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, I thought after we had the Mystery Train, Gosho said that he wouldn't involve Kid in the main plot anymore. I don't remember where I saw this, it was years ago.
It makes me sad when I go though old chapters and see the difference. I can't even get myself to read one full new chapter now. Anyway, I am so sorry about the long message and not really having a question. I just wanted you to know that it is comforting to still have fans who have been here so long, and feel exactly the same way. I cannot express how much I love your blog and your passion for Shinichi and ShinRan! Thank you for putting your thoughts out there.
Hi there! ✨ First things first, thank you soooo much for the kind message. This was lovely to read and it actually made me feel better lmao
I know that I shouldn't keep apologizing for complaining as you say, but you know... There's always people out there who could read what I say and get mad at me or something because of it, so I like to kind of get it out there that I don't like the fact that I myself am being so negative about this manga that I supposedly love so much.
Because I do! I love this manga, it has brought me so much joy and even if I move on to other things (which I am) I can't help but come back and have it in the back of my mind at all times. And that's what kinda makes it worse for me I guess? That's what makes me even more angry and feel like I need to say something.
I've talked about this with other people too. Like @letitrainasunnyday, who has the patience of basically hearing me complain every time a new file comes out. It makes me feel better that there's other people out there who also feel the same way than I do about the show, and who aren't being charmed by the spin offs and the senseless fanservice and plotless storylines. Don't get me wrong, if you enjoy the content we're getting recently then good for you. Great! But I feel like the ones who have always been here and are used to another type of content, the original type of story... All feel a little weird about it now. I just feel like I only come here to complain because the main characters don't feel like the main characters anymore, because the animation style of the anime is so awkward and weird looking, because the story doesn't progress at all, because they focus on things that I don't care about... It's a lot right?
And so some might say: hey! So why don't you stop watching? Just quit reading the manga!
And my answer is: for the most part I have. Like I have said plenty of times before... I don't remember the last manga file I've read completely. Now I only see what it is about on the spoilers we get and give up because I just- don't want to read. I am only in search for things that I'm interested in (the main plot, the main characters, period). Still, I mostly am just enjoying the fanon content (even if a small amount is of my taste now) and waiting for... Something. I don't know. But the point is that I can't give up the manga completely lmao I have invested too much time of my life to give it up (at least for now, we'll see in the future) and to not see where my favorite characters go from now on and what happens to them. I need to see what's of Shinichi. Of Ran. Everyone, you know?
So am I ever going to read the spin offs? No. Am I ever going to go to the cinema and pay money to watch one of the movies? Absolutely not.
But!
That won't stop me from complaining and memeing about it! I guess it's how I deal with it hahaha Sorry but it is what it is 🤷‍♀️
Anyway I don't even know where I was going with this but thanks a lot for the message again. Keep on supporting our main guy and let's hope for something good and interesting soon, yeah?

Anime and Manga Log [06/18/23]
This was a fairly busy week. There was a new series out of Weekly Shonen Jump, Black Clover movie, and the spring anime season is starting to finish up. Additionally a new JoJo chapter dropped. Plenty to talk about as always. Discussion and Spoilers for the following series below: Martial Master Asumi 1 [NEW] Do Retry 7 Cipher Academy 28 Tenmaku Cinema 10 365 Days to the Wedding 110 [END] Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King Dr. Stone New World (Season 3) 11 [Cour 1 END] Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Arc 11 [END]
Martial Master Asumi 1 [NEW] Kawada from Hinomaru Sumo returns with a series about mixed material arts. I didn’t read his previous series and I didn’t get into the anime either, but I thought it was cool that he survived for 5 years in Jump in the shadows of bigger hits. The first chapter was more dense than usual since they wanted to set up the MC and his family along with giving the audience some background to the sport in case they don’t know. Its a solid first chapter overall. My only nitpick is the bullies coming back over and over again was slightly annoying. Rather than the first chapter being a single string of events, it felt like a 2 act story with the school at the start then the Dojo in the back half. The art is great as expected for a Jump veteran. The opening color spread in particular is much more striking than you typically see. I’ll be looking forward to more.  Do Retry 7 From the mangaka behind Bone Collection comes a boxing series that takes place during World War 2. He has improved substantially since his previous serialization in drawing, character writing, and clearly picked up techniques while working for Yusei Matsui. The first arc is a boxing match against someone who is in a similar situation to our protagonist where they’re in the sport to protect someone precious to them. However, he’s fallen off the path and became more and more obsessed with strength to prove his worth. The intensity of the match was crazy with Aozora taking punch after punch. I love how it culminates in finally closing the distance and delivering the finishing punch in return. That caps off the first volume with a W for our main character. Its hard to say if this series can stick around, but for the time being I’m enjoying it. Cipher Academy 28 This week we began the 3rd match of this class vs. class code battle. The theme is determining your ally from your enemy, or are they perhaps the same person, maybe neither? This question is presented to us in 2 different ways. Firstly, in the form of Yukako’s backstory. This is a 6 star puzzle because there can be no definitive solution to whether her actions were good or bad. The answer will depend on who you ask. Its a similar reason given for the previous 6 star puzzle from earlier in the series. Secondly, we get the question in a more literal form. Toshusai is presented with two projections of Yukako and has to determine who is the real one based on pure instinct. Its a question about how well can you know and trust someone. If she guesses correct that means our class got a clean 3-0 victory. That seems unlikely since Iroha still needs a turn. We shall see next week. Tenmaku Cinema 10 Unfortunately Tenmaku Cinema doesn’t appear to be catching on with Japanese readers. Could it be the abundance of movie themed stories like Sakamoto Days and Oshi no Ko? maybe readers aren’t fond of the mc using someone’s else work (similar to Time Paradox Ghost Writer)? or perhaps it just isn’t interesting enough? Personally I’ve been enjoying it quite a lot.  This week’s chapter continues Shinichi’s tour and observation of Hinaki’s time on a professional movie set. Up to this point, I was thinking Hinaki resonated with the character in Tenmaku’s script. At least that’s how I made sense of why a top level actor would take on an amatuer project. But this chapter completely changed my perspective. Maybe there is some level of resonating with the character, but I think its a feeling of rivalry. She’s been isolated in the world of acting and suddenly a fellow student who is the same age comes along with a masterful script. Of course she is going to jump on that. I think Hinaki saw this is a personal challenge to bring the character to life in the best way possible. Its like she found someone who might be able to understand her. Lets hope the popularity can recover before its too late. 365 Days to the Wedding 110 [END] I’ve been a fan of Tamaki Wakai since The World God Only Knows days and I always believed it was a matter of time before they landed another hit. There was a bakery series that has some loose TWGOK references. Then came King of Idol about a crossdressing male idol trying to get in the industry. Both of those were cancelled after about a year of serialization. Wakaki then moved to the Seinin magazine Big Comic Spirts where he published 365 Days to the Wedding. The story is about a pair of introverts who dread the idea of potentially being transferred to another company branch in a foreign country, so they create a plan to pretend date. Over the course of the story, they come to realize how compatible they are. I had a good time reading the series. It was generally pretty funny and heartfelt from start to finish. Also refreshing to have a romance with a pair of working adults. I would say it ended maybe too soon, but I can’t complain about Wakai finally landing another hit finally after all this time. It will be getting an anime soon. I recommend it! [Final Score: 8/10] Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King After being delayed 3 months from its initial release date, the Black Clover movie was finally released on Netflix this past Friday. Shonen Jump movies often come in 2 different varieties. The most common is a 90 minute self contained story with heavy exposition to make it work in the short run times. They feel like a mini arc out of the manga. However, ever since Strong World a lot of Jump movies add to the existing canon. Black Clover belongs to the later category. The movie has very minimal exposition and quite honestly its all action from start to finish with only a small regroup period in the middle. The story is about the previous Wizard Kings coming back Edo Tensei style and wrecking havoc. They want to hard reset the world because each of them was wronged in some way during their time. Instead of providing extensive backstory for each one, the movie would rather show you the sheer speculate of their power. I thought that allowed the movie to progress at a brisk pace (just as the manga frequently does). A movie medium is a good choice to experience the power of the best in the Black Clover world. At the climax of the film each Wizard King comes to realize that the world is changing for the better, even if incrementally. It heavily reinforces the theme of Asta’s unwavering spirit and how he inspires those around him. This film is very much what a Black Clover movie should be like. I enjoyed it a lot and consider it above average for the Shonen Jump movie genre. Dr. Stone New World (Season 3) 11 [Cour 1 END] I don’t have much to say about this season, but just wanted to put down some quick thoughts. The animation is the same old stiff style, but at least the reaction faces are good. The manga story of this cour is very solid. Senku and the gang are finally on the move thanks to having a ship. First stop is the island where the the space shuttle originally landed. The goal is to confirm the existence of and recover the platinum left behind so they can make an unlimited amount of nitric acid. There is even the promise of learning something about how people turned to stone. Great arc and looking forward to the action packed second cour in October. [Final Score: 7/10] Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Arc 11 [END] I’ve always had mixed feelings on the Demon Slayer anime. First, I am probably in the minority for not being a fan of Ufotable. I find their heavy computer CG style to be off-putting and boring. Its always flashy for the sake of flashy with minimal personality. However given that, I can still appreciate the work they put into the animation. Secondly, I don’t like how Aniplex splits up a story into its individual arcs as season labels. Demon Slater is particularly formulaic and that’s all the more obvious in this format. I think it loses all momentum when there’s only 11 or so episodes every year. Now for this arc, I remember liking it in the manga. Cool setting, another pair of Hashira to learn about it, and the usual backstories along the way. The arc concludes with Nezuko being able to stand outside in the sun without harmful effects. The anime version was such a slog. They pad out scenes and everything is muddled with Ufotable’s CG flair. In isolation from the rest of the story it offers very little to push the story forward until the very end. Demon Slayer works best when you get in the groove of the series over a long period. Next is the brief next training arc before everyone raids Muzan’s infinity castle. Just give me 4 cour please Ufotable, I’ll even take it split. [Final Score: 6/10]

Kaito and the Black Organisation
Request: Furuya saving Kaito from Gin Headcanons by @argayathri
My Navigation is here.
Warnings: off canon, one (1) punch
Note: I took some liberties as I thought Furuya should still try to stay undercover. I hope you don't mind 💕
Tumblr media
Very similar to what happened to Shinichi
He sees a parked Porsche and a tall, shady guy leaving the car
Immediately runs to the vehicle to check it out
Already a lock pick in his hand
Does not look behind him 😑
Flinches when he hears someone coughing behind him
He turns around and only now realises that it's nighttime and he's on an empty street
Well - empty except for the shady guy who - upon close inspection - is definitely a highly proficient killer
Kaito is struck down before he can whip out his Kid tools
He groans, but vaguely sees the guy take something out of his pocket
Uses that time to get a light bomb to buy himself some time
But the guy is good and reaches for his jacket
Kaito quickly takes the jacket off and changes into his Kid wardrobe to flee
The next day, he has completely forgotten that the guy now has the jacket to his school uniform
However, at this point Vermouth has already told Furuya about the young idiot who had tried to break into Gin's car, laughing all the while
Furuya just sighs and rubs his eyes, afraid that his assumption is correct
He picks Kaito up from school and deals with Gin later on
Selling the sniper that it was just a stupid teen trying for money
As we know, Gin doesn't really remember his "opponents" (read: victims), so everyone forgets about it a week later
Except for Kaito. Every once in a while he wakes up in cold sweat. The briefing Furuya gave him on the Black Organisation didn't really help to ease his worries

Welcome to part 3!
Click for part [1+2]
If there was one thing Shinichi Aomine liked, it was watching his family eating breakfast around the kitchen table. His wife's brisk pace contrasted with the significantly more relaxed tempo of their son, who every morning, with exhausting precision, would wait about 20 minutes before joining them. Daiki would have come of age in a little over a month, and the only way to find in the young man's face his kid expression was to stare at him a little longer on that very occasion, where between a grumble and a joke the boy seemed more willing to interact with his 'elders'.
Daichan, who had his mother's smiling eyes and his stubborn nature.
His boy, hailed by everyone as a basketball genius, to whom he had never been able to openly pay a compliment.
"When did you say the awards ceremony is? I‘m definitely coming" he asks him, moving the rice bowl sideways.
"The day after tomorrow" the boy answers briefly, busy swallowing the juice "It's not a big deal, it's to hype the school" he finishes, distracted by his mother's arrival.
"We'll both be there" the woman corrects him, handing the boy some toasts and a large bowl of freshly cut fruits.
"If you have time to spare," was the young man's comment, too concerned to stuff his mouth.
Shinichi smiled at his wife, before letting her explain what she had prepared for his lunch.
"I found some very fresh salmon at the market this morning," she was announcing when suddenly her expression had become sharp, at the memory of a particular encounter.
Daiki listened for a few minutes to the gossip reported by the old lady Ota, the county's gossiest gossip, but just when his mother's voice was about to become background noise, that surname awakened his attention.
"Natsume, I don't think that's possible, the girl must have somewhere to go back to!" he heard his father's voice say.
"Mrs. Ota told me that this morning she saw a middle-aged man with a briefcase come in with the cleaners" retorted his wife, taking a sip of tea "Poor girl, her parents make a life for themselves and they don't give a damn about her, even I would drop everything and run far away!" she concluded, looking carefully at her son's scowl.
It was no secret to anyone that he, Momoi and that girl were very close, but the woman had always known that she in particular must have meant something different to her child, as since her departure, any kind of reference or allusion had become a minefield in their conversations. Satsuki, on the other hand, was happy to talk about her friend, and it was from a random chat that she had learned that the girl would be returning to the city, but she had been careful not to spread the news, expecially with Daiki.
Natsume knew that her son would only need a gentle poke to take action, despite his lazy indifference.
"You're really getting old mum, an old tattle-tale!" snorted the latter, turning his face to give and receive a kiss back on the cheek, as he did every morning before leaving home.
"Mama's boy, if you're done and you want a lift to school, we have to get out right now," comes his father's voice, who only after checking his watch realised how late he was getting.
"It's a nice day,I'll walk" he tells him, getting up from the table and putting on his summer uniform jacket, ready to leave, before his mother started questioning more.
The cloudless sky, the warm July sun, the end of school and soon the start of the festival season that would peak on his 18th birthday. Born under the best of promises, the thought of that summer already filled him with curiosity, although one crucial piece was missing to complete the picture. Turning the corner and crossing the street, he saw the graceful, traditional-style building, surrounded by a wall covered in thick brambles that a diligent gardener was trying to tame.
Under that creeper, hidden somewhere, there must still be his name written in thick kanji, the magic code that in their childhood games opened the portal to the fortress where the sweet princess Satsuki was held hostage by the evil shougun, so masterfully played by you.
He smiled, remembering the countless scuffles that ended with an assortment of broken objects, bruises and peeling occurred to the vile marran that he, the fearless samurai, had paid back to Natsume in assorted punishments.
He increased his pace and soon found himself in front of the heavy wooden door, from which he saw a tasky gentleman in a white coat and gloves coming out in search of light. He was examining the shape of a wooden piece with a magnifying glass, muttering something to himself.
On the other side of the fence, Mrs Ota, casually busy hanging out laundry, called him out loudly, raising the man's curiosity: he gave him an oblique look, before asking if he needed anything.
"Is that a piano hammer?" the young asks him, feeling his heart peace quicken slightly.
"Do you play, boy?" he was asked in return and he replies, shaking his head.
"No, Sir, but I know the instrument," he interjects, as the man steps closer to show him a detail that was essential to him.
"See this spot? Here where the wood looks darker, there is a small split... It’s a common but sneaky damage, it could lead to the hammer breaking and in that case the whole sounding board would be compromised, gone. It must be an instrument that has been played for many hours," he concludes, not paying the slightest attention to Mrs. Ota’s arrival despite her trying to introduce herself.
"Yes, the player just got into Kunitachi college," he nods, turning the piece of wood over in his long fingers, catching the technician's surprise.
"Damn, this soundcheck will be an event! I can't wait to hear your buddy play tonight," he gloats, genuinely delighted at that chance.
"It's a girl," the woman corrects him, snorting.
"Great! I'll also call Kenta then... Wait lad, is she pretty or just good at piano?" he asks as he reached for his mobile phone in his lab coat pocket, eliciting a bored expression from Mrs Ota.
"Kenta will owe me a big one as she's a stunner !" the boy laughs, earning an earful from the neighbour, scandalised that the magistrate's son was using such familiar language with one of his peers.
"Behave! ' objected the woman, ready to descend into battle.
"He's just a kid, let him live!" the man huffed, offering him the chance to cut loose.
Raising his arms to the sky to stretch before entering Too Academy, Daiki wondered if all the strange stillness that seemed to surround him wasn't a sign of a coming storm. No news from the basketball team and even more suspiciously, no news from his adorable stalker Momoi. He checked the messages on his mobile phone, scrolled through the missed calls and realised that perhaps his manager had something to do, or rather something to hide. He quickly says goodbye to Sakurai, who seemed to be in the mood for conversation, and walked to her classroom, but when he arrived he heard from one of his classmates that Satsuki was in talks with coach Harasawa and the principal to work out some details of the awards ceremony.
"Which I would have told you too if you had deigned to listen to me!" the voice of Ryo suddenly rebukes him, appearing behind him.
"What's wrong with everyone today?" he huffs, letting his classmate follow him towards the back of the hall.
"What's wrong with you Aomine-kun... Is it your weird way of being happy about the captains return?" he asks as he takes a seat at the desk next to the boy's, near the window.
"What are you babbling about, mushroom?" he asks him loosening the collar of his shirt.
"Imayoshi-san and Wakamatsu-san came back for Friday's ceremony, weren't you and Momoi-san supposed to join them to the headmaster's office as representatives of the basketball club?" the other informs him, receiving a groan in reply. "Maybe if you hurry you can at least drop by and say hello!" finishes Sakurai, sure that he deserved a roaring reply from his classmate who, contrary to expectations, leans his forehead against the desk in surrender.
The sound of the last bell, the class quickly emptying and the start of training where he would not only see the captains again but also suffer the wrath of Satsuki and the coach. He takes his gaze beyond the corridor window and sighs: he had no desire to be cooped up in a gym when outside the world was a riot of light and colour. He turns Ryo away with an excuse and tells himself that there would be no harm in strolling around the building where he would anyway finish the day. Step by step, passing every club in activity, he convinces himself that his is a noble gesture, not a mere need to know. After all, if he had been designated as the welcoming committee for his two former comrades, all the more reason he should have been for you, his dearest childhood friend, assuming and not assuming you had returned to receive an award.
He quickly descends the fire escape leading to the other side of the common green space, greets a couple of girls from the tennis club, but when he finds himself in front of the music room door his swagger seemed to have vanished.
What is he supposed to say?
Would you have been happy to see him or would his presence have embarrassed you?
And would he be ready to see you again?
Whatever he was thinking was interrupted by the rustling of the door and the sudden appearance of a couple heading for the vending machines. The boy gives him a hasty glance, followed by the girl who turned back shortly after, amazed to see the athlete in that area of the school.
"Aomine-kun, can I help you?" she asks, moving her long hair past her back.
"I was looking for a quiet place to take a break and I must have gotten lost," muses the other, tempted to mention your name and get that bugging dilemma out of his head for good.
She laugs, that nervous, high-pitched laugh he had heard so many times in girls asking him out.
'Rehearsals will start soon, I would be happy if you could stay,' she tells him, lowering her gaze and interlacing her fingers.
He had no time to answer because the boy, returning with some drinks, intrudes.
"The club admits no audience unless you have hidden talents beyond those for which you are famous throughout the school," he announces bluntly, inviting the girl to follow him before shutting the door loudly behind him.
Daiki restrains himself from laughing at the poor survivor's face, and with a wave of his hand greets her, deciding to join his companions for training.
He reaches the green space behind the building again, peering for a moment at the leaves moved by the light breeze that brought along a voice he had not heard in two years.
He turned his head, sees you sitting on the stone wall bordering the short lawn, and for a moment, he thought he had lost his mind. It it only when he hears your laugh that he realises that the one he was watching was not a ghost from the past, but a real person, made of flesh, bone and shining hair that danced caressed by the wind. As a sudden feeling that he no longer knew anything about you, everything desperately attracted him: your bare feet trapped by your sandals, your legs lazily resting on the stone, your face tilted to ask that grumpy guy from the music club some extra time to make a phone call.
He fells that liquid sensation crossing his back again, just like on that cold morning when you promised him you would never let him go.
Perhaps you could not stand it any longer either.
He curves his lips into a smirk and clutched his mobile phone in the palm of his hand, certain that it would ring soon.
Or maybe it wouldn't.
"I wanted to talk to you so badly, Sei" he hears your voice which had assumed a completely different tone, the tone that once was meant to be used for him only .
"I miss Kyoto, that's right, maybe I miss you a little too, but you won’t gain points for sure if you keep sending on all those scores!" he listens to your laughing, before a mixture of feelings he couldn't put a name to, dulled all his senses.
No, it isn't jealousy, he told himself.
Jealousy regarding what exactly?
How much fun you were having in Kyoto with Akashi was now the refrain of all Satsuki's speeches, who was not only generous with details, but never failed to point out how irreparably helpless he was compared to the Rakuzan emperor.
Yet something had troubled him deeply, something he could not have understood if he hadn't seen or heard it, something that had come directly from you, the one and only person Daiki Aomine had never questioned.
"How could you even think of doing such a thing to me?" was the only question in his mind as he took long strides towards the gym.

Character studies....(Kind of)
A/N - Hello everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. New Years is around the corners but something else entirely might come knocking at our door so please mask up everybody!
So a few random things came to mind about DC characters.
Goshyo Aoyama has stated in interviews that he likes "strong women" and frankly speaking he has delivered that in various forms. Ran, Kazuha, Sera, Haibara, Eri, Satou and even Yumi not to be taken lightly. While this can be elaborated upon but this post focuses is on the DC men (a few).
Hats off Wataru Takagi is the best man in the entire series.
He is responsible, committed, understanding, loyal and extremely well balanced and patient. He knows how to deal with his personal life, but uphold his duties at the same time. In this aspect, I feel Shinichi, Akai and Amuro lose.
Takagi's journey of winning over Satou is actually very difficult. The loss of her father and Matsuda-kun in the line of duty is terribly painful. She actually saw her father dying and Matsuda was literally blown to pieces right in front of her eyes. Talk about trauma. She knows the hazards of the job which would make anyone reluctant in getting into a relationship with a person who is on field with you. We also see her fear of losing Takagi throughout the series which is also heavily explored in the 25th Movie.
Takagi is understanding of this aspect and doesn't rush her (unlike Shiratori. Shiratori is ready to wait for her but he wanted a permanent mark over her, like an engagement or something. (explored in a Manga case)).
When Takagi comes to know about Matsuda-kun, he completely understands his own position and most of all does not make empty promises. He understands her grief and is patient with her.
The best part is, when they formally enter a relationship, Takagi is fully ready to take all responsibility. He dates her with all the intensions of marriage and living a long healthy life with her. Not to mention he is such a gentleman. He completely lets Yumi and even the detective boys tease him without any signs of aggression.
I genuinely feel that Takagi as a man definitely raises the bar quite high.
Shinichi and Akai on the other hand are the 'sacrificial' type of men. They are so used to logically thinking of things that, even when they are correct it is not always the best outcome.
Shinichi feels like he alone should face the danger and keep everyone safe. He feels its his duty and responsibility. He keeps too many secrets and not just from Ran, he even does that with Hattori. Shinichi talking about the BO with him is quite rare.
Same with Akai, him faking his death like that was genuinely a huge blow to the FBI, not to mention even his mother and sister too believe him to be dead. It must take a huge amount of mental fortitude to willingly subject your loved ones through such grief.
It makes me think these two men need incredibly patient, loving and understanding women as life partners. This trait is certainly fulfilled by Ran and Akemi on a huge extent.
At the start of the series Ran and Shinichi are not dating, heck they don't even know that they have mutual feelings for one another. But even then Ran is uncomplaining over his vague promise of "wait for me." {This can be elaborated upon}.
Akemi on the other hand knew of Akai's intensions, but even then chooses to love him wholeheartedly. She would be the first one to die if Akai ever gets found out (which eventually happens). Despite his deception Akemi accepts him completely and even plays along with it (until its ends up getting revealed by Camel). Needless to say Akai does truly ends up falling for her as well.
For now that's all. There is more obviously but we can have few more posts for that later. Please comment and let me know what do you guys think. I wanted to add more characters but as I said, we can have more posts later!
I don't know if anyone is looking forward to this or not but the next fanfic is going to be Akai and Akemi. I hope you look forwards to it.
Though in all honesty I don't know when

Shinichi: "it's really hot"
Ran: "Oh, sorry."
Shinichi: "Oh, heh, I get it, it's because you're like, hot."
Ran: "No, because of climate change, the ice caps are melting."

SCREAMING?????? At the end of DC episode 118 in the bonus clip after the credits and ending theme while Heiji is overally dramatically revealing he was shot, he says and I quote "I- I don't know which idiot said using force to stop the criminal before they commit suicide was a good idea" I think it's differently translated depending on which dub you watched, but????? Conan's over dramatic pan and his lil "Hattori.." HFBRUDHJD GOOP THESE BOYS!!!!!
I THINK Heiji was referencing episode 78 when Conan remembers the tragic incident from episode 11 The Moonlight Sonata, when he's traumatized from not being able to prevent the culprit from committing suicide.
These boys!!!! I genuinely don't know if he was referencing his pal Kudo or not or if the translation is correct but!!! I need to scream about this somehow!! Sorry for rambling in your inbox Goop!!! 😅
Yeah! I actually GIF'd this scene a while back, using the English translation that's on Crunchyroll right now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heiji: Because some idiot told me... after cornering the culprit with your detective work, you can't let them die. Conan (internally): Hattori...
Sadly, this entire epilogue was omitted from FUNimation's English-language release of the show (for reasons completely unknown to me), so it never got dubbed with FuNi's cast—and I believe Crunchyroll's subtitles are the first time that it's even been officially subbed in English, too. (The videos on Bilibili, which use FUNimation's translation for the first 123 episodes, still don't have English subtitles for this part.)
I think it's a real shame that this after-credits scene got removed, of all after-credits scenes to remove. Heiji is most definitely referencing Episode 78 here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conan/Shinichi: A detective who corners someone with logic, but lets them commit suicide, is no different from a murderer.
And, just like how he was profoundly affected by Shinichi's, "There’s no winning, losing, above, or below when it comes to logic… After all, there’s always only one truth…" in their first meeting (Episode 49), Heiji was profoundly affected by these words, too. He so deeply admires and is inspired by Shinichi, and here, Shinichi realizes that.
Plus, since this is still pretty early in the series, and since Heiji entered the series literally just to beef with him, Shinichi is often suspicious of Heiji's motives. He's always surprised when Heiji insists that there's no case and that he just wanted to hang out (both 77-78 and 118). But with Heiji's speech here, and with his injury, Shinichi understands just how much Heiji sincerely and truly values him.
I also think this scene contributes to a throughline that's present in a lot of Heiji cases, but I'm actually working on a whole 'nother essay about that, so I won't make this response even more massive ^^;
But, yeah, this is a pretty crucial scene, I'd say—especially because without it, you don't get confirmation that Heiji survives his gunshot wound! Like, RIP Harley Hartwell, I guess??
Beyond that, though, it does a lot for the characters. It's so disappointing the official English release removed this scene and only last year made it available. (Episode 118 originally aired in 1998!)
That said... absolutely thrilled to see it in HD now. Such a good moment.

Am I the only one who likes the English dub of Detective Conan (Case Closed) by FUNimation?
I wouldn't ask for them to continue doing what they did before, of course. The way they do things now with keeping the names of the characters Japanese is way better, in my opinion. It doesn't whitewash them and it doesn't downplay their culture just by making it so that we can understand it. But for an 80s show, it was surprisingly really good.
Their names are kept similar to their Japanese names, whether it's in sound or (and this is just my hypothesis, I'm not educated about this so if I'm wrong feel free to correct me) in name rarity. Shinichi's name being "Jimmy" is probably the worst example in my opinion. Everyone else's names are perfectly fine. If they continued dubbing the series, I wouldn't mind them keeping everything the way it was. Again, I'm not saying I'd prefer this to be the case for every anime. It's just that this is the only anime I've seen where English names and voices don't affect the story too much for me, and even when Japanese characters were used, there were jokes and jabs made at Japanese classes Richard/Kogoro had apparently taken (and failed lmao loser)
But like... Has no one else noticed the pattern with the names?
Ran = Rachel (beautiful name for a beautiful girl imo)
Ayumi = Amy
Mouri = Moore
Kogoro (an old man's name) = Richard (also an old man's name)
Shinichi = Jimmy (the worst equivalent, and even then it's not mind-meldingly terrible for me)
Conan is still Conan because they need the detective reference and that's international, so good on him
Mitsuhiko = Mitch, based on the first two syllables of his name
Genta = George, which also sounds kinda similar
tbh i totally forget what Jimmy/Shinichi's parents' names are (I know his dad is Yusaku bc it's hard to forget the name of a wild-haired protagonist from Yu-Gi-Oh! but his mom's name is completely lost on me in Japanese, only that she's Vivian in English), and I have yet to meet Ran/Rachel's mom in Japanese so I only know her as Ava. But still, the names seem to genuinely fit. I wonder what they would've named Ai Haibara in English if they had the chance to get to that point. Would her name be Ally/Allie, based on an ironic pun of her origins? Who knows?
The point is, the story didn't exactly change (at least, from what I understand, it didn't undergo a Yu-Gi-Oh! 4Kidz level of censorship)
And is it just me, or is Ran a really strange name for a character to have? I like Rachel better, though maybe I'm biased because I'm American.
Basically, the point I'm trying to make here is that my unpopular opinion states that I wish FUNimation had continued dubbing Case Closed because Conan's voice was incredible and the voice acting was truly gorgeous, Jimmy's such a little shit and Richard is such a bastard and Rachel is so kind and strong and WHY ARE THEY CALLED THE DETECTIVE BOYS WHEN THEY HAVE AMY WITH THEM JUNIOR DETECTIVE LEAGUE IS A MUCH BETTER NAME AND--
That's my two cents, anyway. Again, I wouldn't wish for this kind of thing to be continued for other anime today. But since FUNimation had started it already, I wouldn't mind if they didn't change a thing and just kept going with it. As far as English dubs go, there have been much worse examples that completely ruined the story. Compared to that, Case Closed is a goddamn masterpiece and I will die on this hill.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

Do you think the relationship between Kaito and Aoko resembles Shinichi and Ran?
Not really. The personalities between them are completely different, even if they both have a childhood friend setup, and Shinichi and Ran are more open with themselves about their feelings compared to the Ekoda couple. If I had to break it down:
Shinichi and Ran: Both know the exact moment they realized they had a crush. Shinichi's friendly personality probably has a lot to do with hanging out with Ran as a kid, because smol Shinichi did seem to have the idea that he needed to be coolheaded like Holmes and not show things like excitement, but being with Ran made him open. Even when he was trying to distance himself from her, the moment they're adventuring together, he gets excited and says her name before thinking about it and correcting himself. She sees through his fronts, and they both protect each other's emotional and physical wellbeing now. Ran's biggest part of their relationship she needs is knowing that Shinichi will be there when she needs him. (Which the Conan situation causes problems with that but that's unavoidable.)
Kaito and Aoko: ...Are immature brats. V: Really though. Kaito's mentality is 'I'll keep all my difficult emotions right here, and then one day I'll die'. He'll have fun when there's people around, but good luck getting him to actually open up. Aoko is his best friend, but let's be honest, it's pretty easy when she's also the only friend we know he has. And the way things go in the manga, they seem more like the kind of friends who hang out and play games, but Aoko's the only one who'd vent about other things going on in life. Kaito would listen, and possibly offer feedback, but he'd never directly admit something's bothering him in return. They care about each other, but they can't balance their emotions to just chill and have a nice moment together too often. Kaito's got too much going on inside, and Aoko's lack of self worth sometimes causes trouble, too. And neither really try to deal with anything about each other or themselves, Kaito just distracts them both from the issues that pop up.
tldr; Shinichi and Ran mesh well together. As in serviceable on their own, but together, they connect with each other in a way that makes them both stronger, more stable, and overall better.
Kaito and Aoko get along like a house on fire. They're good friends, but. The house is still on fire, and they're both just going 'this is fine' without actually trying to change the situation into something that would be both positive and long lasting.

A translation of 星新一 (Shinichi Hoshi)’s short story, 誘拐 (Kidnapping.) I quite enjoyed reading this in Japanese and wanted to give it a shot as my first translation project.
注: I benefited greatly from flashfictionjapan’s translation; the perspective of prior translators was vital in my efforts. I am a complete beginner, so I do not stand by this as the “one true” translation of the work (nor do I think such a thing exists!) Critique is welcome so long as you keep in mind that I am doing my best, and also that literal =/= correct.
And, without further ado, the story!
The doctor leapt up at the phone’s ring. He put it to his ear, and from its jet black depths came a thin voice.
“Hello, is this the master of the house?”
“That’s me; what is it?”
“That would make you the famed Dr. Estrela; is that correct?”
“Yes, that’s right, but who in the world is this?”
“I’m afraid I won’t be introducing myself, but I’m sure you’ve guessed by now what I’m here to discuss with you. Isn’t that right?”
And here the voice succumbed to a chilly laughter.
“Oh—then you—!”
That cool voice interrupted the doctor once again.
“Precisely. Your child is, of course, just falling asleep here.”
The doctor’s voice shook. “You’ve taken my son? And what do you plan to do with him? He’s my whole world—not even a year old—”
“If he meant so much to you, you wouldn’t have left him in the car while you went about doing your silly little errands.”
“So that’s when you took him? When I’d just gone in to get a magazine! You must’ve had your eye on him from long before.”
“Now, Doctor. Instead of panicking, why don’t you accept reality, like any good scientist?”
“Why on earth are you doing this? If you had some kind of grudge against me, we could have settled it personally. This kind of cruelty—”
“No, nothing like a grudge, Doctor. If anything, I’d say I quite respect you.”
“Then what are you going to do? My wife is being driven mad; she’s bedridden!”
At this, the voice donned a layer of concern.
“Oh, Doctor, you don’t say! You haven’t called the police, have you?”
“No, not yet. I thought, just in case, I’d better wait to see if you called first, and that’s where I was when you did. Now just don’t hurt my son.”
“Just as I’d expect from you, Doctor. Given all that, you see there’s no cause for alarm. Your son is quite safe. Now, to business.”
“‘Business’. But you must know that to kidnap a child, to demand money for a child, is a heinous crime.”
“Of course, yes, I know that. But let me tell you this, Doctor—what I don’t know is what will happen to your child if you try anything funny.”
“Please—please just wait! How much do you want?”
“Let’s put it plainly. What I want is the Doctor’s recently completed, most heavily rumored secret—that is, the blueprints to the robot.”
“What?! No, that’s impossible.”
“Now, now, putting it that way just sounds like selfishness, Doctor.”
“You’re talking about something I made to punish evil. I can’t even consider the idea of putting it in the hands of someone like you. I’ll pay anything you like, so just give me an amount in money and have done with it!”
“But, Doctor, it’s just as you’ve always said: research can’t be bought in money, can it? Speaking of which, by the way, when it comes to turning those blueprints into money, I’m certain I’ll be far more effective at it than you.”
“Oh, to hell with you! And you dare to still call yourself human?!”
“The very same. And here’s your evidence—just like anybody else, I’ve got my cravings.”
“A bastard like you shouldn’t be allowed to live!”
“Come now, don’t get excited. You mustn’t forget, you’re responsible for the life of your child.”
“Fine. There’s nothing I can do. Let me respond to your proposition.”
“Yes, of course! There’s my rational Doctor.”
“But first, you’re telling me that my son is definitely there with you now?”
“Don’t you worry about that. Yes, right here on the sofa, sleeping soundly all this time.”
“Alright. That’s a relief, I suppose. But let me hear his voice, just to be sure.”
“He doesn’t talk yet, does he?”
“No, even a cry is enough. Please, let me hear the cry of my child, so I can respond with surety.”
“It’s really alright with you? To make your child cry?”
“To be sure my child is safe? Of course. Just pull one ear hard for me, please. No matter what, the nerves of his ear are quite sensitive; even in sleep it’s certain to make him cry.”
“That’s an oddity, isn’t it? Well, alright. I’m going to try it now. But a baby’s cry is loud, and we wouldn’t want anyone to come running... I’m going to shut the window.”
“That’s just fine. If you’re worried, go ahead and lock the door, too.”
“What?”
“Whatever you like. Quickly, let me hear my child’s cry. Prove to me that he’s safe and sound.”
“Please, patience. I’m about to do it. Let’s end this and get back to our business.”
For a moment the line grew quiet, followed by the sound of a window closing. Then a distant voice could be heard.
“Alright, son, your father says he wants to hear you cry. This might hurt, but you’re just going to have to deal with it.”
The doctor pressed the phone to his ear with all the force in his hands.
A violent explosion sounded.
Returning the phone to its cradle, the doctor laughed to himself.
“They never guess that the ear is the trigger. One more villain down.”

12 Games: Shinichi and Ran Game #6 - Poker Face Rating: T Summary: Ran was trying to prove a point.
(Read here or in FFN / AO3! Link provided.)
.
.
.
Ran was trying to prove a point.
She didn’t know what wracked her typically levelheaded self all of a sudden, but for the first time she was dead motivated to prove Sonoko wrong. On most days, Ran wouldn’t contradict her for anything, but right now she wanted to - really, really wanted to - because her friend wasn’t making any sense.
What did she mean she ‘wanted Shinichi to kiss her’? ‘So badly’?
“Excuse me. I am not desperate for a kiss, Sonoko,” huffed Ran, half lidded eyes directed at her friend who had then snatched the apple from her hand while she was busy processing the latter’s earlier statement.
“I didn’t say you are,” Sonoko replied wryly, “You’re not desperate. I know. But you want it. That kiss. There’s a difference.” She paused, taking a bite of the apple. “Ya woodr’t flail yourshelf in fron’o’ him for that shmack o’ the lipsh, but ya hope he wood.”
Shifting from her sitting position, Ran grimaced, hoping she didn’t understand what she just said, but she did. ‘You wouldn’t flail yourself in front of him for that smack on the lips, but you hope he would.’
Still, it didn’t make sense.
“And why would I want a kiss from him?”
Swallowing the food in her mouth, the light ginger-haired lady limply pointed her index finger at her with the hand that was holding the apple. “Because he’s your boyfriend and knowing him, he probably hasn’t made a move to kiss you yet. That’s why.”
Damn it! ...She’s right.
“...So?” She crossed her arms and pointed her chin up, doing a bad job at appearing snarky.
“Hah! So I’m right.”
“Sonoko!” She jabbed her lightly on the shoulder, though not denying what she’d said. “Don’t you know that not all people in a relationship desire physical intimacy?”
“Sure. But not you, Ran.” Back leaving the metal rails from where they sat on the school rooftop, Sonoko faced her with a piercing stare, the kind that made Ran swallow the piece of meat from her bento down with a big gulp. “Look me in the eye and tell me there’s no reason why you always look at Shinichi’s lips whenever he recites in class or whenever he takes a sip from your orange juice.”
A healthy shade of red was quick to spread on her cheeks. “H-Hey! I’m-...! That’s—”
Sonoko raised a smug eyebrow at her, confident that Ran wouldn’t have a believable counterargument to that. What other reason would she have if not because she’d been thinking about Shinichi’s lips? It’s annoying that she noticed. Even more annoying that she couldn’t deny it. Most annoying that shemight probably be right.
“—something I can do.” But she wouldn’t accept that so easily, would she?
“There’s no reason why I look at his lips whenever he speaks in class or drinks from my juice. Or a water bottle. Or when he eats. Or anything that involves his lips,” Ran recited, as if reading a script.
Sonoko stifled her snort, looking at her with visible skepticism. Ran met her stare with defiant eyes because no, she wouldn’t let her pesky friend get the upper hand this time. She would prove her wrong!
“You want to make a deal out of this?” taunted Sonoko.
Ran matched her arched eyebrow. “Hit me up.”
“Last the whole day without looking at Shinichi and thinking of wanting to kiss him,” Sonoko challenged. “I trust your honesty, Ran. If you fail, you treat me lunch tomorrow up ‘til next week. If you don’t, then the other way around. How’s that sound?”
Ran flared her nostrils, incredibly pumped from the very easy challenge the lady had imposed. “Better prepare your bills because I want my lunch at Ginza, Sonoko.”
They shook hands. “Same, missus, but I want mine home cooked on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday like your beloved husband. Deal?”
“Deal!”
“You’re going to thank me for this, O-ku-sa-ma ,” Sonoko fluttered her lashes menacingly just in time the rooftop door swung open, revealing a Shinichi holding three packets of melon bread on his left hand and a half finished one on the other.
“Yo! I got us some bread,” Shinichi enthused, slightly out of breath. “Sorry I took a while, I... had to take a call from Hattori on the way here.”
The first thing Ran noticed when he sat next to her were the glistening remnants of sugar on his lips from the bread he was eating.
“Can I have a drink Ran?” Before she could answer, Shinichi had already taken a swig from her tumbler, and Ran gawked owlishly at the movement of his throat as he gulped, and the press of the metal container on his thirsty mouth that was...thirsty...for...water.
Her mind blanked, thoughts almost bordering to the forbidden. Mentally slapping her sane self, Ran shifted her eyes from Shinichi’s lips to Sonoko’s face, narrowing them threateningly when she caught her haughty little snigger. Oh, the woman. The daggers Ran threw her could send her flying off the roof.
Calming her nerves, Ran inhaled a deep breath and blew out, slowly. ‘Half a day. Half a day is nothing. I can do this.’
.
.
It significantly helped that for the rest of class, Shinichi looked at her direction less frequently than usual. Normally when he finished a great answer, Ran would give him a thumbs up from the seat diagonally behind him and he’d reciprocate with an accomplished grin but this time, he didn’t even spare her a look, head diving immediately to his notes when he sat down. Which was good honestly, because she didn’t want to share eye contact with him, not while the deal was in effect, but at the back of her mind she couldn’t help but wonder.
When the day ended, Ran was correct in thinking that Sonoko would rather not join them on their walk home, because. Flashing Ran a mischievous grin, Sonoko excused herself from the two, saying she’d go drop by the dojo for Makoto as promised. Ran wasn’t sure how true that statement was, but she couldn’t bring herself to stop her either because she remembered— she wanted to prove Sonoko wrong. She could do it. She could stick around Shinichi without obsessing on the strange, horrible, mostlikelytruebutnotreally thought of wanting to kiss him. Refusing to let her go would only cast doubts on her credibility. That she solemnly believed.
“Is there some secret running between you and Sonoko that I am not aware of?” Shinichi closed his shoe locker and fitted his sneakers with an alternate nudge of both tips to the floor.
“Hn?” Ran tried to sound nonchalant, to sound as if the deal hadn’t been wearing her off. When he didn’t say anything, she gave him a cute half smile - with eyes that crinkled close because she wanted little eye contact with Shinichi - and then linked her arm around his. “Nah. She’s just being her usual self, that’s all.”
Shinichi merely scrunched his eyebrows, not anymore pressing for further details. She didn’t pay much attention to his forearm that stiffened when she grabbed hold of it.
“‘Kay. Let’s go.” They passed by the gate and began their walk home.
There was a particular route in their walk that Ran always enjoyed passing. It was along the straight, sun-drenched pavement that overlooked Sumida River. Freelance artists by the riverbank would leisurely capture the scenic view from their sketchpads complete with the boats and bridges, and from a fair distance on the grassier portion children would often play tag or soccer. Further unseen were the echoes of sometimes obnoxious, sometimes friendly barks of dogs being walked by their owners. For Ran, the whole scenery felt so alive and natural, so peaceful, like a breath of fresh air from the typical urban Tokyo landscape.
They crossed paths with a middle-aged jogger, his energetic Shiba Inu trailing behind. Tail wagging excitedly, the dog pounced on Shinichi in the friendliest manner. Shinichi knelt, hugged the fluffy ball of sunshine in his arms, and it barked and licked his cheeks with so much joy. Both its owner and Ran couldn’t help but laugh at the cute sight of their immediate bond.
For a brief second, Ran had forgotten about her fetters for the day, relaxing as she admired an ever innocent, childlike Shinichi. When the man and his dog finally jogged away, a soccer ball flew to their direction and Shinichi, as figured, let the ball bounce around and on his knees before kicking it back to the waiting and amused children at the foot of the path by the riverbank. “Nii-chan, thank you!” They shouted in unison and he could only but salute with a satisfied grin on his face.
Stripped out of murders and mysteries, Shinichi remained a kid at heart.
Ran wanted to pinch his cheeks for being so adorable.
She softened her eyes and released a silent, mincing giggle. ‘See that, Sonoko? I can look at him without urging myself to kiss him! Pinch his cheeks maybe, but not kiss him!’
Ran was proud of herself. So far, so good. Lady Luck was on her side.
They continued their walk until they reached the streets with many food trucks and stalls that opened late afternoon onwards.
Nakamise Shopping Street was where Shinichi often bought food for dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast. Stopping in front of a dango stall, they were cordially greeted by the concessionaire and were presented with different flavors to choose from. Shinichi requested a stick of Anko dango.
“You’re going to have dango for dinner?” Ran asked, surprised.
“Bread for lunch got me hungry. I only need a little fill before my next meal.” Shinichi handed his payment and received the stick in exchange.
“ Mou, I told you to buy a decent meal for lunch, didn’t I? Just because it’s Thursday today, doesn’t mean you have to wait for tomorrow just so I can make you your bento. That’s simply lazy thinking, Shini...ch...”
Words mired down her throat as her eyes fixated on the way he languidly nibbled on one sticky ball of dumpling. Warm steam emerged from where he bit, teeth stretching the gooey texture of mochi before he cut it with a light tug of head. She watched the movement of his mandibles grinding the dumpling in his mouth, blowing occasionally to exhaust heat.
“Shtill hot,” he commented, munching, then he swallowed, preparing himself for another mouthful, “but very savory.”
Very savory. Yes.
In her mind palace, Ran desperately clung to the seam of Lady Luck’s gown, the Queen dragging the former along the floor whilst making her way out the front door.
“Oh, how rude of me.” Pausing midway his next bite, he tipped the half consumed stick in front of her mouth, coaxing her to try. “Want a taste?”
Ran momentarily forgot how to speak, eyes still glued to his upper lip that had been partly coated with red bean paste. Worse was he had to swipe it with his tongue after offering her a taste . As if the damned guy knew about the deal and was doing that for the win.
“N-no I uh, want...um—” she scanned around in panic, desperate to lock herself with Lady Luck away from the intruding thought that had threatened to hold her mind hostage to her ultimate defeat, “—takoyaki! I’ll buy takoyaki instead!”
She marched to the direction of the adjacent stall, arms swinging unnaturally to the wonderment of the detective who had remained cool the entire time before she stormed away. He must be thinking how weird she was, Ran thought. But she couldn’t blame him. There’s no way he’d know. If she were to blame anyone, it had to be Sonoko for drilling that ridiculous idea in her head.
“One order of takoyaki please!” she squeaked. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Shinichi pull an expression - indiscernible from where she stood - before he made do with the remaining mochi dumplings. Her brain was in shambles, unable to make out what’s happening around and in her, and her extending a hand to receive the tray of fresh takoyaki had been purely mechanical.
Only when she popped one whole ball in her mouth did her mind resume operating the way it must.
“ Ack! ” Eyes glossing with tears, she coughed and spew air like a hysterical dragon, frantically fanning her mouth with a free hand. “H-Hot!!”
Seeing her chagrin, Shinichi rushed to her side and promptly brought out the tumbler from her bag. “What the hell Ran, here, drink.” Though voice urgent, Shinichi remained as calm as rock like he wasn’t forcibly downing the tumbler on Ran’s tongue to neutralize the heat.
The woman gagged.
Not because of the cool water zipping down her throat, but more of the careful fingers craning her neck, lacing her hair as the man guided the container to her parted lips.
“There, there," he crooned lightly, "I suppose that’s hotter than the dango.”
Shinichi was so close to her face, soothing her like a five year old child in view of the moderately few curious passers by, and Ran had never wanted to combust in absolute embarrassment as much as she did that instant.
She broke away from Shinichi, eyes blown wide, pulse drumming loud. A little water spilt on her school vest and to the ground. The burn in her mouth was forgotten ever so quickly, outdone by the tingling feeling in her stomach that crept up her neck onto her cheeks and ears. Ten degrees more and she’d be about ready to burst into flames.
“Ice cream. I need ice cream.” She blathered, unthinking.
Shinichi’s eyebrows furrowed. “But you haven’t finished half of your takoyaki ye—”
“Ice cream. Please?” God she really did sound like a kid. She swore she saw in his face the mix of surprise and incredulity and exasperation in relation to her strange behavior he probably chose not to address to his better judgment.
“Okay,” Shinichi shrugged, trying to sound patient. He resealed the tumbler and put it in her bag, then returned to the bag he had dropped earlier when he tendered to Ran’s burning mouth. “...If you feel like it, maybe you can tell me what’s going on?”
.
.
Facing away from the busy streets, the two leaned on the back of the food truck from where they bought soft-serve vanilla sundaes. The typically levelheaded Ran had been reduced to a quiet mush of blush and blunder, melting her ice cream with her quiet gaze and quiet exhale, while Shinichi, still as calm and composed as ever, alternated his attention between his sundae and his girlfriend, patiently waiting for the woman to make sense out of the whole situation.
Ran huffed a breath, a deep and slow one, before taking a bite of the serving. If there’s something more embarrassing than her earlier takoyaki mishap, it was this.
Goodness, was she really going to tell the subject of the deal about her deal with Sonoko?
Her mind recalled her rooftop conversation with the lady. What compelled her to agree to this stupid deal? She knew she was trying to prove something, yes, but was the thought so despicable that only the fact of losing could convince her to accept it? Why couldn’t she accept it? What was so wrong with looking at her boyfriend and then imagining said boyfriend kissing her? Did that make her less dignified? A pervert? If she looked at him right now would she do exactly that? She’d been tempering herself for the past hour, trying, and trying… What if she tested herself by stealing a glance—
Wait, she shouldn’t go there. A dangerous test. The dango and takoyaki situation had proven that. Had she lost yet? She hadn’t right? The almost two weeks Ginza lunch deal sounded truly tempting. How could she let that pass? Of course she’d win this deal. She hadn’t lost yet. She only had to look at his nose or the middle of his brows if she must talk to him, to copy the poker face he’d been wielding since after lunch and simply go with the flow. She wouldn’t tell him what’s up, tell him instead she was having cramps. He’d understand. She’d win.
“That’s not the proper way to eat ice cream, barou.”
Rocked from her own thoughts, the first thing Ran’s brain processed was the teeth mark on her ice cream. It took another five seconds to register Shinichi’s comment.
She looked at him questioningly, unsure of what was wrong when she’d been eating her ice cream like that since little. “Then how?”
“You lick, duh.”
Ran eyed him mockingly.
“But you’re licking, and look at your chin and nose, you got some of your ice cream there! It’s messy!” she said as she pointed at the white blotches dotting the mentioned parts.
“That’s why they serve ice cream with tissue, Ran.” He proceeded to wipe the dirtied areas with the tissue he unwrapped from the cone.
“Whatever. At least when you bite you only get a little around your lips—” Ran demonstrated by taking another bite of the tip of her ice cream in a manner that made Shinichi wince, “—see?”
“Stup— Stop that, that’s really bad,” Shinichi grimaced like she’d inflicted him physical pain. “And you’ll get a toothache. It’s soft-serve ice cream for a reason. You’re supposed to lick it, not eat it like a pocky stick.”
“Oh, c’mon Shinichi, as if you haven’t seen me eat ice cream like this yet.”
“No, really, I’m quite surprised I haven’t. If I did I would’ve already corrected your wrong ways long ago.”
Puffing her cheeks, she exhaled deeply and shifted with a stomp to face him. “Okay then, if you think that’s the right way of eating ice cream, then let me change my ‘wrong ways’ and do what it is you deem proper, Mr. Always Right.”
Locking eyes with him as she pouted, Ran brought the ice cream to her mouth, flattened her tongue on the edge of the cone and, as slowly as she could, swooped right up the tip, vanilla coating her cavity and a little of her bottom lip and chin with gluey white.
Shinichi went horribly quiet.
“ Euh—see? It’s so messy! It’s everywhere on my face! I don’t like it,” she complained.
The teenage detective didn’t budge.
Out of curiosity, Ran spared him a glance as she wiped the sticky vanilla sundae off of her chin. Though he wasn’t saying anything, his dilated eyes spoke volumes. Shinichi couldn’t tear them away from her lips. He was in deep, observing and nothing more, yet observing way too hard . Too hard it made her so conscious she felt her cheeks heat up and her pulse thrum tormentingly.
“...Shinichi?”
“Ran.” He took one uncertain step forward. “...Damn. Goddamn it.”
Her mouth ran dry.
Was he going to kiss her?
He was still staring, eyebrows wired in a manner that made it difficult for her to decipher the thoughts running in his head. But she’s certain he wasn’t expressionless anymore like he was prior.
Oh no, did she feel her legs take a step forward too?
She didn’t know what incited him, but from the way his attention locked on her lips and the way his eyes hooded at the sight, she took it that he’s ready to take and mark her to his preference.
Oh no, she kinda wanted that, didn’t she?
She swallowed the saliva that had accumulated at the back of her tongue, letting the thought of kissing him run loose in her brain entirely.
Oh no. Sonoko was right now, wasn’t she?
After ten long seconds of them just staring at each other with vanilla stuck on her lips and breath stuck in his lungs, Shinichi, in the end, turned his back to Ran.
Tips of ears red, he mumbled. “...Curse you, Hattori.”
Ran tilted her head, uncertain if she heard him correctly. “What?”
Shinichi ruffled his hair as if annoyed, but Ran felt that the annoyance wasn’t directed at her but more at himself. “Have your way. Bite your friggin’ ice cream.”
She blinked. “...That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
Ran felt her chest deflate, releasing the breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding for the past minute.
Not only did she expect something, but she also did not get it, and she even lost her chance at Ginza lunches.
“Hey, that’s rude, face me and speak more kindly,” she demanded, curt, mood already dampened by her lose-lose situation.
“Finish your ice cream first before I face you.”
Ran rolled her eyes. “What, disturbed that I’d rather bite the sundae than lick it?”
“...Yes,” he said, humorlessly. “More than you’ll ever know.”
“But licking—”
“But do whatever you want.” He cut her short. “Bite or lick, I’m not... uh, just finish it quick. Please.”
She did, very quick unlike the takoyaki, and they went home with her noting how the tips of his ears remained red and how he hadn’t glanced again at her face, confirming her lost chances of truly getting a kiss.
.
.
“And what did I tell you?”
“I get it… no need to rub it in my face.”
Sonoko chortled, taking a mouthful of yasai itame from the customized bento Ran ever so diligently prepared. The dejected woman sat across her friend on the floor, legs and arms crossed, blankly staring at the rough cement of the rooftop.
“What are you going to do about it now?”
“I don’t know.”
Ran felt her friend’s eyes scan her from head to toe, having no idea if it was a look of judgment or pity she was giving or all of the above. She’s way too embarrassed to even bother knowing.
“You don’t have to wait for him, Ran. You can just, you know, go for it yourself,” said the woman.
“I—“ she blushed. “But that’s…”
“What? It’s not the 19th century anymore. If you want something, go for it! All’s fair in love and war, o-ku-sa-ma ,” Sonoko lectured. “Though really, your boyfriend is an idiot, I can’t believe he didn’t go for it! What a wuss.”
“Maybe he didn’t want to—”
“Oh, please. There’s drought on those lips and they’re dying to be baptized by yours.” Sonoko winked at her knowingly. Ran’s eyes blew wide, blush intensifying like the afternoon sun.
“Sonoko! You don’t have to say it like—”
“Want to make a different bet this time? Who will kiss the other first, you or Shinichi?”
“N-no, no more deals please!” Ran implored, utterly defeated. “Instead of deals, I’ll...I’ll try and...see... what I can do.”
“Atta girl. That’s the spirit.”
.
.
“And what did I tell ya, Kudo?”
“Shut up. I know.”
Heiji chuckled on the other line. “No ya don’t. If ya did then this bet wouldn’t have happened. Congratulations to me for winning that Koshien ticket premium seat and congratulations to ya for proving ya cannot stand a day without wanting nee-chan’s—“
“Hey, I said I know okay,” Shinichi’s voice raised a notch louder. Afraid that he might have caught the girls’ attention, he peeked on the other side of the rooftop door where he reclined and saw that they were still talking.
Closing the door gently behind him, he sat himself on the first tread of stairs. “For the record, I was doing so well until the ice cream thing happened.”
Heiji laughed some more.
“And? How did nee-chan react?”
“She...stepped forward too.”
A faint whistle echoed from the receiver. “ That seals it. Now ya really have ta kiss her.”
He ruffled his hair, visibly nervous. “But what if she doesn’t—“
“It’s not the 19th century anymore, Kudo. Betcha your girl’s like Kazuha. They know what they want. And they aren’t afraid to show it. Nee-chan stepped forward. Like that ahou when she… Yea that’s your cue.”
The East Detective groaned inwardly.
“What? Don’t tell me we havta make a deal out of this too?”
“No need. I can do this.” He puffed his chest. “I’ll see what I can do. Give me...uh, until tomorrow.”
“Ya better, Kudo. I’m telling ya, nee-chan’s waiting.”
(Fortunately for Heiji, he didn’t have to wait until tomorrow.)

A/N: In another universe, it’s veteran bro Heiji assisting his fellow bro Shinichi with his love problem. In whatever universe, Ran always pays attention to Shinichi’s lips because the Scarlet School Trip Arc says so and the Scarlet School Trip Arc is law.
(Tumblr Side Note: This whole fic was born from @detectivegeekshin ’s comment on Kiss Prompt#23 - what if it’s the other way around, with Shinichi doing the food ‘teasing’? Thank you for the wonderful idea, now we have a thirsting Ran (っ˘ڡ˘ς) )

All’s Fair in Love and Larceny
Summary: All Kaito wanted was to get Hakuba off his back about the Phantom Thievery... and mess with his favorite detectives’ love lives.  AO3 Link
@not-a-hope-in-hell    ‘tis I, your secret santa. It’s not exactly what you wanted, but I think it’s pretty good. Happy Holidays~!
Also, @dcmksecretsanta
Shinichi blinked, staring at the white form perched outside his bedroom window. He blinked again. No, KID was still there. Sighing, he unlatched the lock and pulled the glass up. “What do you want?” he asked the thief.
“My darling princess—”
“Not a princess—”
“My darling prince—” KID snatched one of Shinichi’s limp hands and kissed the air above it—“Would you please giving me the honor of escorting you this lovely evening?”
“…KID, it’s two am.”
“Very astute of you, detective! Unfortunately, I am very well aware of the hour.” There were dark bags under KID’s eyes, Shinichi noticed, previously mistaking them to be part of the shadow from his hat. “Alas, I have neither the time nor patience to visit you at a more respectable hour.” His voice dropped. “Please, Tantei-kun. I’m desperate.”
Alarm rose in Shinichi. KID wasn’t one to ask for help; even now, years after his return to the spotlight, there was only one suspected assistant to the criminal magician. Hakuba, Shinichi’s… friend and fellow Kaitou KID chaser, had even confided in him about a suspected dark organization trying to kill KID. A pit opened up in Shinichi’s stomach. If it was a branch of the Black Organization that he had failed to capture…
Shinichi opened the window more and stepped away. “Well? Get in.”
KID rushed inside, uncharacteristically tripping on his cape as he did. It seemed as thought whatever was bothering him was truly upsetting to the thief. He quickly straightened, brushing off his suit as if it had never happened. “Thank you kindly, Tantei-kun.”
Shinichi shut the window behind him and closed the blinds. “What’s wrong? Are you in danger?”
“The only thing in danger, Tantei-kun, is my dignity.” KID sighed. “A mutual acquaintance of ours, one Hakuba Saguru, has decided to make himself a menace. So, I’m calling in that favor you owe me.”
Shinichi’s heart skipped a beat. Hakuba… it was rare that Shinichi could work a case with the strict foreign detective, but he enjoyed their time together. Hakuba was brilliant, with an excellent taste in literature, and apparently, a big enough threat to KID that the thief would use the one favor he gained helping Shinichi with the Black Organization. He swallowed. He couldn’t exactly say no, not after KID had helped him so much. “And what, exactly do you want me to do?”
KID grinned, but to Shinichi, it was nearly a leer. “I need you to come with me. Once we arrive at our destination, I’ll tell you.” He clearly could see Shinichi’s discomfort, so he added. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing illegal. But your pride… might not survive.”
Shinichi gulped.
***
Saguru glared. Kuroba, two rows to his left and a seat ahead, didn’t notice. Or he pretended not to notice in order to get Saguru off guard. Saguru in the perfect position to watch his prey, yet frustration rose in him. Despite over a year of surveillance, he was no closer to definitively proving that Kuroba Kaito was the Kaitou KID, a fact that irked him most severely. It had even gotten to the point where Saguru had managed to arrange for a police officer to dodge Kuroba’s every move to no avail. Though if Saguru’s suspicions were correct, the likely thief certainly had other methods of leaving his house, but he didn’t have a warrant to search the residency yet.
It didn’t help his mood that morning that Kudo Shinichi was once again reported missing.
Saguru thumbed through the missing person’s report on his phone in between classes. Kudo was reported missing by his neighbor’s ward, Haibara Ai, a child he distantly remembered being a friend of young Edogawa Conan before he moved to America. There was no sign of forced entry, usually indicating that Kudo had left his residence himself, but none of his clothes were missing, his phone and keys on his bedside table.
A conundrum. A very worrisome one at that. Saguru still remembered what happened last time Kudo mysteriously disappeared.
He hoped it wasn’t his fault. Saguru enjoyed Kudo’s company, to a degree that would likely be thought as inappropriate if voiced aloud, and he didn’t want his fellow detective hurt. Especially if it was his fault. Kudo had already been forced to track down one villainous organization, and Saguru had been the one to inform him of the people trying to kill Kaitou KID. Kudo could very well be trying to apprehend them at that very moment, and there was no telling how injured he might become.
His phone vibrated once. An unknown number had sent him a message. A scam? No, it was a picture, though his particular texting app required he download each image before they appeared. Impatiently, he clicked it. Did another fangirl get ahold of his number…!
Saguru nearly broke his phone. There, on the screen, was a photo of Kudo, still in his night clothes, tied to a chair and gagged. A white arm was wrapped around his neck, connected to a white thief, holding his head up for the camera. There was early signs of bruising on Kudo’s cheekbone, and a dazed look in his eye that screamed concussion.
His eyes flicked to Kuroba. He didn’t have his phone out; timed messages from a burner then? Before he could confront his classmate, another message came, just text this time.
Did you wake up to something missing, Tantei-san?
Nearly shaking with anger, Saguru typed his response.
This is a new low, even for you Kuroba.
The reply was instant.
Kuroba? Do you still think I’m your classmate? Besides, I wouldn’t call this a “new low”. More like… a different branch of my current low.
Saguru paled, barely paying attention to the teacher entering the room. That was no stock reply, it couldn’t have been a timed message. And Kuroba’s hands were visible.
He couldn’t be wrong, could he?
To make sure, he sent another message.
You’re not going to get away with this. Return Kudo now.
Or what? You’ll take “drastic” measures? I’m terrified, Tantei-san.
Another photo. This time, Kudo was clearly in KID’s arms, restrained with an arm across his chest. One of KID’s hands was secure around Kudo’s throat, while the other was dipping into his shirt.
His phone cracked under the sudden pressure of his grip. His eyes flickered to Kuroba who still was, maddeningly, not doing anything.
Why are you doing this?
Why? Tantei-san, you didn’t think that you were the only one interested in our favorite detective, were you?
Is this merely an attempt to incite me? You figured out my feelings and decided to mock me for them?
The confession made Saguru feel nauseous. Because he did like Kudo, romantically although he would never speak aloud about it. There was no evidence that the other detective thought of him as more than a friend and Saguru was… well, he wasn’t happy about it, but he could be content.
But how did Kuroba—KID—realize the extent of his feelings?
Mock? Tell me, Tantei-san, is there anything to mock?
I don’t know how you discovered the extent of my feelings for Kudo-kun, but I promise you, you will regret this, Kaitou KID. Kudo means more to me than you’ll ever know, and if there’s one bruise on his body, you’ve stolen your last jewel.
There was a pause in the writing, and Saguru took the moment to try to calm down, when—
Then I advise you announce your feelings soon, Tantei-san. Otherwise, I might decide to keep him.
The third photo, Kudo being forced to sit on KID’s lap, his sleep-shirt unbuttoned, lecherous grin on KID’s face, one of the thief’s hands reaching for—
He slammed his phone down on the table, the screen cracking.
“KUROBA!!”
“Hakuba-san, sit down!”
***
Kaito hummed merrily as he unlocked the entrance to his KID-cave, the threat to his secret identity now safely defeated. Sure, he nearly got choked out by Hakuba, but the teacher had put a stop to that, giving the detective detention too. And with that detention, Kaito was sure the Brit’s father would no longer allow Hakuba access to his manpower, since it was only because he thought Hakuba “mature” that he had the officers to stalk him everywhere.
Finally, he could relax—
“Are you going to unchain me?”
“Tantei-kun!” Kaito smiled brightly at the detective he had chained in his basement. Kudo was easily able to get up from his armchair and move around—the chain connecting his leg to the chair long enough so he could get to the bathroom and minifridge—but unable to escape. Kaito was a considerate kidnapper after all, especially since he had to sneak Kudo in through the sewer entrance to avoid the police outside.
At Kudo’s side was the cell phone used to aggravate Hakuba. Kaito had gotten a glance at Kudo’s work after pickpocketing Hakuba and it was good. At least, it sounded close enough to KID and worked Hakuba up into pseudo-confessing, so score.
Kaito bowed. “Thank you very much for your assistance in today’s trick. You made a beautiful assistant!”
“So long as you delete those photos, I don’t care what kind of assistant I was.” He tossed the phone at Kaito. He caught it with one hand. “When you asked for my help, I thought it would be for something more serious.”
“This was serious!” Meddling in the love lives of his favorite detectives was extremely serious! With how emotionally repressed the two were, they’d never end up confessing. Speaking of which, Kaito leered at Kudo. “So, did you realize why you were so effective in enraging Tantei-san?”
Kudo looked away, face stoic but there was a light flush on his cheeks. “…I did.”
Kaito smiled, satisfied. “Then my task is complete. Just make sure to name one of the adopted babies after me~!”
The comment was totally worth the soccer ball to the face.

Kokichi tosses a gift bag at Shinichi. Inside is a small box of homemade candies and a teddy bear that looks suspiciously like Kokichi. "Merry Christmas!" He blows him a kiss, all too smug. "I made those, so if you don't eat them I'll find you and kick you." ( kokichi vc: [uses christmas as excuse to flirt] )
Tumblr media
Unprompted Asks | Always accepting!
The gift was caught with relative ease, though, by the way his brows were quirked upwards, he was clearly caught off guard. After all, why would he expect any sort of gift from Kokichi, especially one that DIDN’T involve some sort of prank that left him either sticky, drenched, or just otherwise looking a complete mess?
Still, he opened the gift bag and began to pull out the contents out, making a disgusted face at the bear ( as if he WASN’T going to put it beside his bed once he heads home ), and then the candies which looked far too appetizing to be safe to eat.
Tumblr media
“Christmas isn’t for another few days, baaro.” Shinichi corrected him, carefully squeezing the bear against his chest. He tried to ignore the teasing display of affection, which ultimately left him pink in the face, resulting in him turning his gaze away from Kokichi. Was he pouting a little? Maybe. “...I’m not a big sweets person, but I’ll have a few when I’m in the mood. If these end up poisoning me, I’ll come back from the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life.”
