Jupiter's rotation timelapse! In September 2022, when Jupiter reached its closest approach to Earth in 59 years, I did a recording of 1 hour of Jupiter's rotation. Jupiter exhibits a fast rotation, its day being only 9 hours and 55 minutes long. On the right its satellites Europa and Io are also visible.
The sturgeon moon got its name from Native American tribes that found that the giant sturgeons from the Great Lakes were "most readily caught" at this time of the summer, according to Farmer's Almanac. Photo taken on August 1, 2023 with my Canon Rebel T8i attached to my Celestron Omni Telescope.
The observatory is complete except for a few minor items. The roof rolls off very easy and quieter than I expected. The pier was a bit unusual but is very stable thanks to my welder friends (Marvin and Jackie.) Now I need lots of clear skies.

Clouds and the crescent sun by nathantw

The annular eclipse of the sun. I wasn't in the center so I didn't get the Ring of Fire. The clouds that I thought would be a problem with obscuring the entire event turned out to add interest to some of photos.
Cocoon Nebula - IC 5146 Located in Cygnus, the IC 5146 is a reflection and emission nebula. I finally decided to put everything together on the Celestron EdgeHD 8 for deep space and do some testing to make sure my guiding worked and that I could reach focus. Guiding was the easy part, focus was the pain. I finally got it and on the first night I captured m27 amd NGC 869, those I will post soon. On night two, I decided to shoot the Cocoon on both my Edge as well as my Meade 80mm Triplet. This here is from the Edge, and though I had some focus drift in the middle of my imaging (can't seem to get the auto focus to do its thing when using my Canon), I am happy with the result, especially considering I did not use any filters. .
