So I was having a conversation with my twin sister about Encanto. And it quickly became a thing like “What would they have as pets?” and here are my thoughts. 

Agustin - He’d be allergic to most things, so I think he’d have a lovely aquarium full of colorful fish. 

Julieta - The woman has bunnies. Several in fact. And their names would be based on spices or herbs i.e Cinnamon, or Sage etc. 

Isabela - Snake. Isabela gives me snake owner vibes. She’ll let them play in her garden. 

Luisa - She would have the smallest dog, or the most fluffy dog. She’d give it sweaters and it would practically own half of her bed. 

Mirabel - She is difficult BUT I feel like she’d have a hamster. Mainly because I love imagining Mirabel walking around with her hamster just on her head. Like it is a normal thing to do. “He likes the view” 

Felix - He is a dog owner. He has the energy to match a dogs. But he is the one character (other than Antonio) who I think could work with any pet. 

Pepa - Hear me out. Pepa owns several colorful song birds. Cockatiels, Parrots, you name it. Imagine them bathing in the drizzle of rain she causes. 

Dolores - She’d have the most quiet cat on this planet. It would only allow her to hold it and it would hiss at Camilo the most but otherwise still likes him enough to allow pets. 

Camilo - This boy owns either a frog or a bearded dragon. I lean more toward frog because of his face at the dinner table when Dolores tells him about the vision. But he is a reptile kid.

Antonio - He is difficult. He is def the type of kid to bring home random animals he finds that are lost or hurt. So I’d say he has quite the few pets. I lean more toward him having birds just like his Mama and maybe a couple of reptiles too. 

Bruno - Rats. 

Abuela - I will stand by this. I will take zero critique on this. Alma owns a chinchilla. I will not elaborate on this.

A 3:30 improvement over the last Holligay Memorial Run two years ago, about equally split between the run and the beer. 33ish for the run is a couple minutes slower total than the last time I went for a run, which was a 5k last June, but given your insane Montana shot size I will take it.

Shot: Jameson triple distilled. Can recommend not tasting bad cinnamon liqueur for the duration of a 5k.

Beer: Asahi. But Verb, that bottle says 620ml! Yes, and here is how the conversation in the supermarket went:

Me: So our choices are 440, 500 and 620ml. I don't remember what a US pint is.

Cockatiel: I'm pretty sure a pint is more than 500ml, because [really nerdy reference you can ask her about], but I don't have data to check.

Me: I thought it was 400-something, but I'm not sure. Well, if we get the largest it will definitely be enough!

Turns out a UK pint is more than 500, a US one is less, and we both suck at judging volumes. Oh well. It was nice beer.

ahaha, I saw that beer bottle and was immediately very, "Sayonara you weeaboo shit" yeah historically our pint is based on what the imperial pint was before we said, "Later, Dad! I'm out" and the current imperial pint is based on the UK's Measures Act of 1824*, so they differ by quite a lot, actually. I do want to know the nerdy reference, but I do adore that you two, two of the genuinely smartest fucking people I know, did not think, "Oh I can google US pint in ml here on my Clever Mobile**" and so just blasted yourself with an extra 4 ounces or so of beer. Amazing. You are an icon.

I laughed so hard about the drums thing, you're such a jackass, I ALSO RUN TO ANIME THEMES SOMETIMES ANIME I HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN.

-The candle smell question is a bit abstract so I'm going with habitat smells. Either something with a warm dusty kind of smell, maybe cinnamon, or a grassy kind of smell.

-These days I mostly get mental shifts, phantom shifts have sort of faded over the years. I haven't had a decent shift in a bit because it is winter and too cold for outdoors time most days. Mental shifts are often a present, living in the moment mindset, looking around and observing things, usually when it's quiet and nobody else is around. A common indoor shift involves standing or crouching by a window or on my balcony, watching the birds and cars pass and trees sway in the wind.

I tend to get shifts outdoors at night, despite my theriotype being diurnal, simply because it is one of those quiet empty situations. I get a sort of "animal" feeling being outside at night because late dark hours are for people to be indoors, asleep, so to be outside and awake feels less human-like.

When in my territory I go to places higher up or with a decent view and just watch the area, sometimes with binoculars to see farther. This will often be in a perch-like posture, limbs folded close, hands often in coat pockets for the closed wing feels, fluffing up my phantom feathers and chirping. This gives the feeling of watching for predators and resting after foraging for seeds.

Biking brings about mental shifts in terms of "travelling quickly without feet touching the ground and feeling the wind rush by" is quite similar to flying for me. If I owned a car I'd probably compare driving to flying too.

-I have a birdkin playlist that I add songs to occasionally. This part isn't exactly music but a lot of forest sounds with chirping birds, audio recordings of my habitat or cockatiel calls are things I listen to for a birdlike headspace.

Tori is a baby cinnamon cockatiel who is very soft. Since Tori is so young, s/he is going through a bonding process with me where s/he will spend the next month where s/he will still live at the pet store but I would visit and spend an hour with him/her once or twice a week.

Aerden Lo’sharri Jr. Likeness:  Tom Holland In-game Name: Aerdenn  (WrA-H) Artist: Teallinum Looks like a cinnamon roll and IS (mostly) a cinnamon roll!  He joined the military as soon as he was of age and has been there ever since.  He started in the medical tents but has since become a combat medic, being one of the few that uses Life magic and is also an empath.  He still has a lot of growing up to do but he has a bright and optimistic outlook on life despite all the hardships. He learned in the recent years that Pollux Hale is his biological father! 

Ryland Falkov Likeness: Thomas Doherty In-game Name: Falkov (WrA-A), Ryyland (WrA-H), Ryyland (MG-A) Artist: Zoratrix A half-elf born from a human mother and a high elf father (whom he has never met nor even knows the name of), Ryland grew up in his mother’s dance studio where she taught lessons. Now he can be spotted in a variety of night clubs go-go dancing for tips, and more recently you can find him on the Succulent Tart stage! He is also the lead navigator for the Lady Lillium, working under Captain Felonous Blacksun. He’s charming, flirtatious, and loves to be the center of attention - he’s also always on the lookout for his next sugar mama/daddy.

Taric Sunflare (Darkmorn) Likeness: Joe Alwyn In-game Name: Darkmorn  (WrA-H) Artist: Zoratrix An alchemist and herbologist who owns the alchemy shop, The Red Rook, down in Booty Bay with his cockatiel Pickles, Taric could be considered something of a ‘modern hippie’. He prides himself on the quality and effectiveness of his all-natural potions, having studied the craft under his mother for his entire life until she passed. Often found traveling for work, he is able to adapt and thrive in pretty much any culture.  He is the nephew of Tristenne ‘Red’ Darkmorn, although that will likely remain a secret for some time even though most that know both suspect some sort of relation given their similarities.  Like all the Darkmorns before him, he’s able to freely traverse the Shadowlands and commune with the dead.

Kareenia  Amberlight - ‘Kara’ Likeness: Anya Taylor-Joy In-game Name: Kareenia  (WrA-H) Artist: AvannTeth The younger sister of Dicenne Amberlight, Kara is something of a wild card. She currently lives with Dice in Ratchet, although she’s saving up to rent out her own apartment elsewhere to give him his space. She’s had a rough life, but thanks to her big brother she’s done a lot of healing in recent years and is less afraid of being out in public and in crowds. Art is her therapy, and she’s quite the skilled painter.

Inistellan Volanthus - ‘Stellan’ Likeness:  Clive Owen or Jon Hamm In-game Name:  Inistellan  (WrA-H) Artist: Merwild My oldest (in age, not in time played) and most distinguished character, Stellan has led a very long and fulfilling life…that the majority will never hear about.  He’s gone through three name changes in his lifetime, although he’ll only ever go into detail about his present persona. Currently he works as a bouncer and an occasional host for The Red Moon when not doing mercenary gigs with Talonoa. The man prefers to remain a bit of a mystery to just about everyone, even those closest to him - for a good reason.

Ourobor An’dar - ‘Ouro’ Likeness:  Dan Stevens or Ryan Gosling In-game Name:  Ourobor  (WrA-H) Artist: DarkTarou While he’ll tell others he’s a freelance mercenary, Ouro is first and foremost an arms dealer and anyone in the business would know him as such. Horde, Alliance, military, citizen, mercenary - he’ll cater to anyone that offers the right price. He will never be found without a gun somewhere on his person, they are his lifeline and his obsession. On a quest for vengeance right now, his violent desires tend to play a heavy role in all aspects of his life.

*NEW CHARACTER!** Garren Norassin Likeness: Lucky Blue Smith In-game Name: Garrenne  (WrA-A) The son of Xylaes (former high elf, now blood elf) and Callia (night elf, now deceased and in Maldraxxus), he doesn’t remember much of his mother and has only recently met his father. Their relationship is very shaky given the circumstances, but Xy is now the only family that he has left. He’s just come of age and is trying to find his footing in this world, which has not been easy given his unusual appearance that puts him as a bit of an outcast within both the Horde and Alliance. He lost his home and grandparents when Teldrassil was burned, and is currently looking for a new home (away from the refugee camps in Moonglade) and a new path in life.

I was researching a bit about cockatiels and I ended up discovering the given names for different cockatiel colors. I like looking through genetics so I'm going over the genetics of all the cockatiels I had, here we go!

(this is very fucking long my apologies)

My very first cockatiel Nina (female) was a lutino (full yellow cockatiel with red eyes). Not sure if she was a pure lutino because it has been so long, but a prominent feature she had was red eyes which is exclusive to lutino cockatiels. No pictures of her because I had her ages ago. Rest in peace Nina.

Lutino is a sex-linked mutation.

Chico (male) is a normal cinnamon (light grey/brownish gray cockatiel with normal yellow face). And Lady (female) is a cinnamon pied (light grey/brownish gray cockatiel with yellow splotches around body).

Cinnamon is a sex-linked mutation while pied is recessive mutation. Because both parents are cinnamon, all the babies will be cinnamon! But for the babies to be pied, Chico needs to have a split for the mutation (aka have one recessive gene). We don't know Chico's parents for sure, all we can expect is that either there's a 50% chance that the offspring will be pied if Chico has a split for pied. If Chico doesn't have the split, then all babies will be normal like Chico (though they will be split).

TLDR: There's either a 50% chance the babies will look like Lady, or 100% chance the babies will look like Chico. It all depends on Chico's unknown genetics

For the couple I had before, the unnamed male is a normal gray (gray cockatiel with normal yellow face). Pipoca (female) is likely a pearl lutino (yellow cockatiel with lighter specks at the tip of the feathers and red eyes).

I have a suspicion that the male is also pearl gray, but it's difficult to notice on male adults because their coats tend to return to normal as they grow. I got Chico when he was 4-5 months old and I'm sure he is not pearled. As for the unnamed male, I had him when he was already an adult, so maybe he could have the gene or not.

Anyways, Lutino and pearl are both sex-linked mutations. The normal gray is a dominant mutation. Because I ALSO don't know the male's genetics, he could have a split for her genetics too. Because there's a lot of genetic variety between the two, I'll put the possibilities down here like a thread (I'm not 100% sure if it's correct!):

LUTINO GENE:

- If the father is not a lutino split, all babies will be grays, all the males containing a split for the gene because it's a sex-linked gene.

- If the father is a split for lutino, there's a 50% chance the babies will come out lutino, no matter the gender. The gray males will all have a split for the gene.

PEARL GENE:

- If the father is not a pearl split, all babies will be normal, all the males containing a split for the gene because it's a sex-linked gene.

- If the father is a split for pearl, there's a 50% chance the babies will come out pearled, no matter the gender. The normal males will all have a split for the gene.

- If the father is pearled, all babies will be pearled.

I'm not measuring all the possibilities for the two traits together because that would be a FUCKTON of work! Sex-linked genes are a little more complex to work with.

Fun fact! While in human biology the female sex is indicated by XX and the male sex is indicated by XY, on most birds it's the opposite! The female sex is indicated by ZW and the male sex is indicated by ZZ! So their sex-linked mutations work the opposite way from humans.

I think after making this thread I can become a biologist.

Out of all the age regressors Charles, Faust and Mozart are the worst when it bedtime rolls around they will not want to go to bed even if they are yawning ( they eventually do go to bed though)

All of them are super cuddly and will cling to you like koalas

The baby who commits the most baby crimes is Vincent and I will give no further explanation

Favourite foods include apple sauce, pancakes and crepes (made into bite sized peices), mochi, tofu, pretzels and edamame just to name a few

All the food is usually has texture that everyone will enjoy and if not then there will be an alternative

If I could buy him anything without fear of my cats killing it, cost, or upkeep, I'd buy him a Cockatiel. Specifically a cinnamon Cockatiel.

It just feels like his kinda fella.

They all have the kind of personality he'd enjoy.

But ya know, they are a lot of upkeep, require a lot of attention, and we have murderers in our house. So, no birds.

Especially Kuro.

I've seen Kuro tear a bunny to shreds, there's a reason we don't let her out of the house. It's not just for her own good, but for the good of humanity.

We've talked about getting a dog, but we both agreed we could let the kids get old enough to appreciate a dog before we do. I'd hate to get a dog now, and then by the time the kids are actually old enough to play with her/him, they'll be elderly and probably die before our first kid turns 8. That's just not a good deal.

That, and I have four cats. Two of them I've had since I was 16/17, so by the time we have kids, they'll be 18ish each. Unless my oldest cats live to the ripe old age of 25, we should be down to two pets by the time our kids are old enough to appreciate a pet dog. That would make it a lot less difficult to handle a dog.

If my cats lived until 30 that would be okay though.

I've had them since I was 16ish, I barely even remember a life without Bonnie and Ashby. It would be really weird to not have them around. At the same time, I've given them the best life possible with the least amount of stress, and if they live their life's course and pass away peacefully, that'll be okay. I'm pretty at peace with death.

Even Kuro, when she dies of old age I'll probably be aight. I have already given her back six years of life; I've tripled what would have been her lifetime. When she passes away naturally, I'll be okay knowing that, and it wouldn't stop me from providing a loving forever home to a new companion. I doubt I'd ever connect with another animal the same way as Kuro, but I still love all of my pets very much.

So someday, we'll probably get a dog.

But for now, I might get him a crab.
