Gertrude Ederle, first woman to swim the Channel, 1926, (1935).
Gertrude Caroline Ederle (1905-2003) was an American competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and world record-holder in five events. On August 6, 1926, she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Among other nicknames, the press sometimes called her "Queen of the Waves".
"To me, the sea is like a person, like a child that I've known a long time. It sounds crazy, I know, but when I swim in the sea I talk to it. I never feel alone when I'm out there." - Gertrude Ederle
Attention Kääryleet, a gentle reminder that we never know when Jere might be lurking around the corner. There’s a post on Finnish Jodel talking about his swimming skills and the menace replied with this…
”Once I went to a swimming competition at school and I was last.”
The Chain if they were competitive swimmers except I only have ideas for a few of them
Sky: He's a sprinter, good in any stroke but best in fly. His track starts are ✨ flawless ✨ but we don't talk about his underwaters.
Legend: Jack of all trades, he has some beef with the water but he still races. He'll swim anything but likes long distance events. Good track starts and his dolphin kick is incredibly fast.
Four: Races IM and also enjoys Medley relays. (Vio: Breast, Blue: Free, Green: Fly, Red: Back)
And that's it for now, this is definitely staying in my head though.
got my Official lung test results back (analyzed by a pulmonologist rather than just the initial respiratory therapist impressions) and they're actually BETTER than expected for someone of my age/weight/ethnicity. everyone say THANK U jock swimmer-singer lifestyle god what a relief.
“Mermaids were beautiful, and was I not also beautiful? Alluring? A creature of the water? Not of salt like the mermaids in the book, but of chlorine.”
chlorine by Jade song is such a unique book. I don't think I've read a book in recent memory that grabs you as violently as it does, and brings you on a journey of competition, friendship, love, gore and water. the descriptions and metaphores/similes in that thing genuinely made me rethink some of life's staples and my own opinion.
this book is incredible. I really love it. If you wanna hear more, my short positive review is now live:)

Hyrule: How easy do you sleep at night knowing that the next day you have to swim more than one 400 IM the next day?
Legend: Bold of you to assume I sleep.

Warriors: What’s the most important thing you learned?
Competitive swimmer culture is having songs unironically ruined because you played them so often at meets that now you can't listen to them without smelling pungent chlorine
