BACK FROM THE DEAD WITH BIG NEWS!!
Well - good news and bad news.
GOOD NEWS: The “Holiday surprise” Julie was referring to last night is, in fact, a CBS legends season that will run from December 1st to December 22nd. This season will include “legendary” CBS alumni from Big Brother, Survivor and The Amazing Race. The six MTV vets from The Challenge USA 2 are also eligible for casting.
BAD NEWS: Grodner REALLY wants to cast Tori Deal for this. She’s tired of our criticism and wants her revenge.🤡
I have heard several names for this (aside from Tori). Remind me to post them on Friday!

There are four main types of Batfam fans in regard to how people interpret Bruce Wayne as a dad (/Joking. This is mostly satire and should not be taken seriously):
Fans that think Bruce is emotionally constipated and isn't the best at being a parent but still tries (Differs per person). Don't necessarily think he's absuive but thinks he can be toxic or have unhealthy expectations for the Robins. Can smell the Oldest Daughter Syndrome coming from Dick and have Family Line (By Conan Gray) as their top song on their Dick inspired playlist and Daddy Issues (By The Neighbourhood) for Jason.
Fans that choose to believe Bruce goes to therapy in their own canon. Love B:WFA. Thinks the comic can be cheesy at times and so find a balance between B:WFA Bruce and Please Go To Therapy BruceTM as their middle ground. He struggles. They advocate that Bruce is not a bad parent, he just has bad writers that seem to forget Bruce wouldn't hurt kids, especially not his own. Love the humane moments and scenes he has in BTAS and the early JL cartoons. He may not be perfect but he's not literally abusive. Whores for Bruce being able to admit when he is wrong and for Jason and Bruce reconciling. I recommend Grow As We Go by Ben Platt for this one.
A mix between the first two. Was fine-ish when Dick was younger. Didn't help him in the healthiest way but eh. Still emotionally constipated but that happened more so after Dick left and Jason died. Started getting better when Tim came back but was still closed off. Should probably go to therapy with the kids so they can drag his ass about all the things he's done that have actually affected them negatively. Understands his mistakes and is also able to admit when he's wrong, eventually. It's not easy but he starts to do better and learns to be more emotionally available. Still has to get chewed out by Alfred sometimes but definitely better than he used to be and it shows. Reconciliation is slow and gradual but progress is made for everyone involved.
The one's I personally avoid for my own sanity and wellbeing:
Think Bruce is a complete bastard and abuser. Want him to choke. Hate any and all interpretations of him. Some of which will refuse to understand how anyone could have a different interpretation. Will point out comics where, in all fairness, he is a dick but forget that characterisation can significantly differ from one series to the next, as comic characters are constantly passed around to different writers and have been for decades. Not to mention movies, shows, etc.
#Bruce Wayne#Batman#Batfam#Batdad#I'm not tagging everyone in the Batfam I can't be assed#Sorry there's like 500#Bruce has a child for every mental disorder he has#Dick is his ADHD. Jason is his C-PTSD. Tim is his Anxiety. Cass is his OCD. Damian is his Autism.#Like bro the therapist is RIGHT there#You have the money just GO#I am a mix of 2 and 3 tbh but more so 2 because he is my comfort fictional father figure. I already have a shit dad irl#I'm not dealing with it in my favourite media too#Type 4 fans scare me I lowkey see so many people like that and I'm like. If the block button wasn't free. I'd be in debt by now#I get that you saw Tom Kings work. So did I. I hate that fuck. But I personally prefer the scene of him in JL with Ace on the swings#Or the one with him playing with shape block toys with a baby whilst Supes and WW handle the questioning#Or when he hugs literally any of his kids#Or the one of him and Jason watching a movie and eating popcorn when Jason's ill. And they have the picture of them posing#Or when he cried in Flashpoint over the letter his dad left him because the little boy in him needed that#Plus any time Bruce and Clark interact as Best Friends. The Golden Age comics where they were basically Dick's gay dads 💀#But yeah. I could make a poll from this tbh.#This is a generalisation on purpose genuinely do not take it seriously#If I see ANY disclosure. It's delete and block on sight#Bruh I'm still recovering from the notes of my Fallout 4 John Hancock in a Drag Race outfit crossover post#I know it sounds like I'm being paranoid but that's because I am. You have not seen the things I have seen in my notes#You do not know of the wars I have fought of over ghoul dicks and high heels#I have seen things I can never burn from my vision. Read things I will never have the mercy of forgetting#Over silly little shitposts. Lmao. Anyway. Here. Have some food.

i dont think anon was referring to sps simple style, sp is a pretty controversial show. from what i've seen, it seems pretty bigoted? i could be wrong. sorry if this ask is rude, i don't mean to be rude, but yeah i think that's what anon meant
Oh no, not rude at all!! Sorry you have to apologize my response to that anon was a lot more srs than I intended I just wanted to get my point across, I'm all for open discussions :] to answer the bigoted question, I wouldn't entirely say no. but I can say that South Park was not made to make fun of minorities and spread harmful messages. The show presents bigoted behavior from the antagonists who are too stupid to realize they're wrong, it's up to you as the audience to realize that what they are the antagonists and that their actions should not be justified and supported. And even then, there are characters who outwardly speak out and work to fight against said bigots in the episodes they're in. However, the show also relies on shock humor. And this is a criticism on the fans part, but they really gotta stop saying "why are you surprised? It's South Park" as if being surprised over something gross or offensive wasn't the point in the first place. The ridiculous shit in the show isn't supposed to be normalized!! It's supposed to be absolutely ridiculous to the audience and catch them off guard!! You're not supposed to get used to it!! You're not supposed to like it, but you're not supposed to read too deep in it either, breaking down why it's wrong and why you found it shocking and why this is SUPER PROBLEMATIC!! Isn't the point. You just gotta acknowledge that "oh that's fucked up I cant believe they did that, that is so wrong" and just sit in shock for a bit and move on. Like, you can't tear the show apart for one joke when its purpose was for you to realize it's supposed to be ridiculous and wrong at the same time, and the show itself being aware of that fact. A lot of the offensive material circulating around on why South Park is bad lacks context. Cartman and Butters dressing up as chinese stereotypes? They are at a normal Chinese restaurant, harassing a Chinese family because they're idiots who believe that china will overthrow the world, they are asked to leave. Ike in a relationship with his teacher? Ike is a victim of a grooming that is not taken seriously by the police because the predator was a woman, portraying how male victims situations are overlooked in real life, the teacher dies in the end. Randy saying the N-word on live television? He is ridiculed and seen as a total asshole, he gets called "N-word guy" by the people around him and retaliates by making it illegal to call him that name, a satirical role reversal portraying the hypocrisy and sensitivity of white people (oppressors) where they make the "slur" against them illegal but not the slurs against the people they have oppressed for years.
But even after all this, I can see that there are other examples that I can't, and I am not willing to justify. At the end of the day, we all have to acknowledge that South Park was made by two cishet white men. (this was why I said I can't entirely say no) Their opinions will not always be right, and I'm sick of fans trying to justify some of their episodes and jokes just because they like South Park, South Park is not one of those shows you want to ride or die on. I personally have a few jokes and episodes I dislike and will absolutely never watch again, but that is not my main focus. Discrimination is not my draw, and I don't think that's the show's either. Now we're going out to discussion territory and more of personal opinion. I personally enjoy South Park because I feel very drawn to the characters and I find their character driven adventures and antics to be really entertaining. I don't care much for the social commentary. Not that I completely ignore it, it's just something I acknowledge is important in some episode's narratives, but not something I pay too close attention to.
I don't think I watch South Park for the intended reasons, and I don't think most of the fans over here on Tumblr do either. I can admit that I enjoy a version of South Park that isn't technically South Park entirely. I enjoy South Park for what it isn't, and that is a situational comedy with four little guys getting into all sorts of trouble <3
Tumblr media
And the funny thing about this whole post is that I used to be a South Park hater.
I thought it was just a bigoted show where the only jokes it had were slurs and children saying fuck, right before I actually gave it a chance and was surprised to find out that it was more than I thought it was, and that I actually somehow enjoyed it.
It's kinda crazy to me that I'm technically defending SOUTH PARK of all things right now.
But uh yeah, I like South Park, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was, and I ended up hyperfixating on it. I'm not here to change anyone's mind and make them watch South Park because "it's ACTUALLY spotless and politically correct all the time, you're just sensitive ☝🤓" People are right to label South Park as controversial, and people are right to be offended by it when it's making fun of something it doesn't understand or without the proper nuance, and people are allowed to discuss and criticize the show for it. With all that said, The show is not emblematic of its own fans, and some of its own fans need to stop looking up to it like it's the bible.
Matt and Trey can be wrong, and even fans like me who enjoy it aren't too dumb and ignorant to recognize and rightfully not be in support of certain aspects of it when a line is being crossed.
This whole thing was supposed to end right after I attached the photo of the characters, but then I just decided to write more and so I puked this extra fluff out, sorry about that lol

Yk those playlists you made ? I really wanna hear an analysis on why you chose them / picked them. I enjoy the playlists so much - I'd love 2 see you talk about it more !! :D
Me to Dirk and Jake at our weekly couples counseling (they’ve been skipping them for multiple weeks now and they’re both sitting there looking disheveled presumedly after a nasty fight): You know the only way I can see this relationship going is a violent and bloody breakup turning into an undefined kismesis and I think you two should get with the memo and start kissing.
Thankyou for this ask. :) I didn’t expect people to be interested in it so much. Well, I started off by collecting a selection of songs to carry a certain vibe, and then look for others in my library that match them. For the Ultimate Dirkjake playlist, (WHICH I RECOMMEND YOU LISTEN TO WITH SHUFFLE OFF, IN THE ORDER IT WAS PLACED) I wanted to convey violence (as a form of love, and something I’ll probably touch on in another ask I’ve been drafting up), and the general obsession they have with each other.
I screened each songs lyrics to make sure it’s not really just “vibe” that carries them, they have to have the majority of their lyrics relate to Dirk or Jake in one way or other as i think of them., and then chunk them according to what leads smoothly into the other song, though the first 9 songs tell a story on purpose.
For example, we start off with Mr. Blue Sky. They say every good movie starts off with a killer soundtrack, and Mr. Blue Sky is just one of those universally loved tracks that just hit right, and I think it's also because mentally I was reminded of that killer Guardians of the Galaxy 2 fight scene in the very beginning, setting the tone for a really great film.
Kiss with a fist is a song that is about love that is violent, love that is NOT, mind you, abusive, but a metaphor for the strength of a lovers passion. There is no victimisation, "the song is describing a highly destructive relationship, but one which both partners enjoy. But it’s all metaphorical." It fits well for Dirk and Jake in my mind. Their passion is destruction, and one they take to with passion. It's alluring.
You're nothing without me is *the* song of all time for Ult Dirkjake. It was one of the first songs I found that fit them so perfectly, I mean seriously, look at these lyrics.
You're nothing without me / Without me you'd just disappear / Right into thin air / And no one would care / Or notice you ever were here A puppet, an upstart / A loser who's destined to fall / I'm everything / you always wanted to be / Let's deal with the issue: / You wish you were me / You're nothing without me / Without me you're nothing / At all!
Dirk and Jake bridle on a rivalry built on love, and with a rivalry, you must to some regard, regard the other as lower and yourself higher than them, which Dirk and Jake do, they're very well aware of it, and that is what Ultimate DirkJake is, it's them acknowledging these upfront in a way to mock and belittle the others in a verbal duel.
Like every other Dirkjaker, a Dirkjake playlist is not complete without Lemon Demon. Lemon Demon is intrinsically threaded within the matter of Dirkjake, whether it be two trucks, a touch tone telephone, or in this case, The Satirists Love Song. "This song is about a cynical individual who basically proclaims to his ex-lover, “IT’S JUST A PRANK, BRO,” claiming the relationship was purely satirical and never intended to be taken seriously." Which sounds like a massive cope because it reads just like that. A massive COPE and SEETHE, which could not be more on the point of Ultimate Dirk as it is.
And speaking of Ult Dirk.. we lead into DESTROYER, by saint motel. It's a song about a guy whos exlover is someone who literally claims they don't just break hearts, they destroy them. It takes one look at the lyrics for you to stand up, wojak point at these words, and recognise Jake English and his predicament over what society tells him to do, and what he desires. And what could he use to truly pacify someone like Ultimate Dirk Penelope Strider?
A slug to the head, in the form of Take Me Out. This song is fucking awesome, I've had it looped for a long while. It's about a standoff, romantic in nature, where two sides are both unmoving in their affection, though they do desperately desire it, for the other to take them out in a metaphorical or literal sense. Their intentions are apparent, but neither wants to give away their position.
Naturally that leads to rejection in the form of Misanthropologist by Will Wood. This song was recommended to me by exaltiora and i think it perfectly describes the plight Dirk Strider keeps himself awake at night with, when it comes to the prick of an ex who stubbornly wouldn't let him fade into space.
I wanna meet your maker / Shake him by his ensanguined damask lapels / Holler “Look what you’ve done, gave this planet a sun / And made a man to wonder if he’s more than the sum of his cells” /'Cause you defy creation / I hate you, I hate you, I do /Hands to the night sky, praying you might die / Before I fall in love with you
And that frustration, that frustration of something so great, can turn to sadness, to grief, which is why we continue with Stay, by the rare occasions. I love The Rare Occasions music, but it was while i was watching my friend Lapa draw a piece of Ult Dirkjake art that it sunk in how it fit them. Before Lapa really started drawing, I never considered Ult Dirkjake that tragic, it was supposed to be a fun way to continue the story of characters I loved, but this song resonated and i realised how sad it could be, two characters who lost themselves seeking "ascension". I think of strangely "tender" moments between the two, with some confusion by the other on why they stick around. Dirk and Jakes relationship is so real in canon, but post-canon, they sort of lose that sincerity, unraveled so to speak.
New Person, Same Old Mistakes, captures that. Dirk and Jake are new people, post-canon they lose all the fondness and innocence afforded of their canon selves.
I can just hear them now / "How could you let us down?" / But they don't know what I found / Or see it from this way 'round / Feeling it overtake / All that I used to hate / One by one, every trait / I tried, but it's way too late
Ult Dirkjake is supposedly a culmination of their other selves affording them omniscience, (to varying degrees?) , but it also means that all their biggest flaws are amplified, whether it's Dirks micromanaging tyrant like behaviour or Jake English being jake English, (and yes i mean that in a derogatory manner). They can claim they're larger than life, greater than great, badder than bad, entirely new people, but they will make the same mistakes.
Shit, i've been rambling for a while. Miiight make a part two if asked, I've calibrated the songs that they blend into each other well without having to shuffle, so like I said, listen to the songs, look at the lyrics. I added two new songs, Rival screams LE jake to me, while bubblegum bitch.. well it's on here because of this one video LOL. It's so right. Thankyou for reading this far! Enjoy the video. It's so funny to me.

I think part of the reason why i fucking hate the arbitrary no-nuance "x is ALWAYS problematic no matter what the context is" kind of rhetoric is because when you grow up jewish, you kinda see for yourself that thats not always the case
We have this style of satirical humor where we punch at our own level instead of up or down, so to speak. But it's directed, it's politically-charged. We use the same caricatures and stereotypes and bad jokes that our oppressors do, but in order to take power away from them. The idea is kind of that if you can laugh at something, you're in the position of power over it. And when your history is as bloody and oppressive and full of persecution as ours, there's plenty to make fun of
My ex, who we like to call a real NYC jew, and I make blood libel and lizard people jokes at and about each other all the time. Every other text conversation we have goes along the lines of "Hannibal has a kosher kitchen <3" "i dont think human meat is kosher" "no you see they dont say it in the show but all his victims are christian" "FUCK OFFF LMAOOBDNDBDKDH" ["0 days since our last blood libel" image]
Between anyone else, that exchange would look violently, vehemently antisemitic. But we're both jewish, which isnt to say that its not possible to be prejudiced against your own community, but you have to look a little deeper than the surface level here. Its already ridiculous to imply that hannibal lecter would have a kosher kitchen, which sets the tone and expectation that the rest of the joke should be taken with as little seriousness as possible. Now add in the millennia of history of jews using self-caricaturizing as a form of satire, because we're basically stealing it from our oppressors and saying "no, only WE can make fun of ourselves and we do it better than you!!" Like... the context is extremely, extremely important here, not just the surface level of the words being said.
Which is also why I think there were so many people who completely missed the point of films like The Producers and Jojo Rabbit. The comedy isn't there to make light of what the nazis did, it's to replace fear, shift the power dynamics, and to make the contrast with the serious parts even more striking in the case of Jojo Rabbit.
And growing up with this kind of culture around satire is why I really hate when gentiles refuse to look any deeper than the vague surface level when it comes to things like word usage and content. For the love of god, it's not that simple

Prequel to a movie about Ken
Tumblr media
This is a translation of this Barbie review. I think it's funny, and it matches with my impressions of the movie in many ways. Ken was certainly done dirty. So the movie starts with kids smashing the heads of child dolls. Yeah, I got the reference, but I also saw how in the very first frames children smash children's heads. Well, that is, this is how the movie which takes place in the land of living dolls begins. The pointless reference is over, we can move on to the next scenes. And then we see Barbie. Well, we’ll never know what kind of Barbies there are for the most part, but the main Barbie is a smug fool completely devoid of empathy. Let's say she should be like that, OK. There is an interesting paradox here - this Barbie begins to feel discomfort only because someone in the real world (as it later turns out) is playing with her and GIVING Barbie this discomfort, but Ken, for example, feels discomfort without any outside manipulation. And when you suddenly realize that in the first scenes Ken already looks much deeper and more interesting than Barbie (because he suffers without “outside help”), you can’t help but think: who is this movie about?
Next, the situation becomes even more interesting. Barbie continues to be an object of manipulation, while Ken, changing according to his own (!) desire, is trying to fix something in his world! So, once again: who and what is this film about?
And then it gets even more interesting. World of Kens. OK, satire, I understand; it's good and of high quality. But notice that we see different Kens. Moreover, Kens quarrel, fight, dance (their dances are one of the most striking scenes), and... they themselves find a way to not escalate their conflict, while Barbie (both the main one and others) turns out to be incapable of anything like that! Is this really a movie about Barbie? Because if the authors thought it is “about Barbie”, then no, Barbie is boring, Barbie is a hysterical fool, incapable of anything on her own. Maybe this is some kind of complex satire on Barbie? I suspect it's not satire, it's just poorly thought out. This is an unprofessional lack of thought, stuffed with scattered “iconic references”.
OK, let's look at this from a different perspective.
Let's say Barbieland is an anti-our world, doll matriarchy. This already smacks of satire on the ideas of matriarchy, but oh well. Let’s say that by matriarchy we mean patriarchy, and the men "there" are kinda like the women "here". But the men “there” - represented by Ken - don't want “different professions” or “freedom of elections”, no - they just wanna hang out with women. And if in “Barbie” by men they mean women, then... The story is stepping on its own tail again. Or is the “re-seizure” of power another satire? This time on a society where half the population is not taken into account when voting, so the “other side” of the population wins. But isn’t there too much satire that leads nowhere? (Which, again, is not satire, but just the authors' inability.) OK, let's say that none of this matters, and “Barbie” is just a cute nonsense with dancing and running men, but... then how and why did this simple buffoonery include accusations of fascism, pretentious monologues about the purpose of women and children smashing children’s heads? Did the authors really want to make a post-modern farce where they make fun of literally everything? I seriously doubt it. That’s why it doesn’t work out. Nothing adds up: no satire on the “cult of Barbie,” no denunciation of the entertainment industry, no condemnation of "patriarchy"/methods of combating it. It's not even just a funny film with stupid jokes. I wonder why, did the filmmakers want to please everyone too much, without forgetting about themselves or current trends? And yeah, about “fascism”: feminist Barbie sounds as cringe as Zionist Hitler. PS
If the filmmakers had any wit, then after escaping from Barbieland, Barbie would have met in the “real world”... a doll gynecologist. Screwed by the Matrix, in short. But again - no.
There are also a few interesting lines from this review that I wanna quote:
In the beginning, Ken is a synonym for slave. He only has good days when Barbie turns her gaze to him.
In the middle, “- What time is it? - You respect me?" speaks volumes about Ken's psychology, built over the years in Barbieland. *TL note: that was ultra sad to watch. Such a crushed self-worth goes far beyond patriarchy this, feminism that (worth noting that he has no female counterpart in this regard). Btw, after returning to Barbieland he's wearing three wrist watches.*
“Ken isn't something we're worried about. Ever." from the lips of the company's management adds color.
And at the end, Ken returns back to his slavery, in the world where Barbie/women reign supreme.
Ken is not liked by Barbie, not liked by his creators, and not even liked by himself. *TL note: It's nice that he was told at the end that he's enough, but is this really enough to make up for the damage already done? Barbie freed (for lack of a better word) him, among other reasons, because she didn't want to live as part of the Barbie and Ken franshise and didn't want to reciprocate his feelings. Kens have tasted power, so Barbies are going to make some concessions, but what exactly will change in Ken's life and the attitude of others around him? There are states from which it's very hard/impossible to pull yourself out by your own hair, like Baron Munchausen. Maybe Ken'll be treated like Gloria's husband, who gets cheated on, scolded like a boy by his wife and daughter and left behind when they're having an adventure of a lifetime? Well, he's Kenough, so he can now be sold as his own doll line, duh.*
At the same time, he is presented as the main antagonist with a distorted perception of a man - both by himself and by women.

Annon-Guy: Thanks, also are the tropes Ho Yay (Yaoi) and Les Yay (Yuri) meant to be taken and read seriously or not really?
They're called "tropes" because writers use them as tools in storytelling methods.
It just means it's a frequently-used writing tool for some authors.
As for whether or not to take them seriously… it depends on the author.
If the author frequently writes BL Romance or GL Romance, then certainly those tropes SHOULD be taken seriously.
If, however, the author does things like ROMCOM (Romantic Comedy), Satire, or the source material is a completely unrelated genre, then you should put on your reading glasses and check to be sure.
For things like videogames, usually those topics don’t come up, since it’s publicly consumed material (meaning it has to be safe-for-work and that kids can enjoy the game too).  So you won’t see those two genres pop up in mainstream that much, if at all.

Thoughtspew Post №. 1
Apparently, it is a good thing to keep journals in order to document your thoughts. I assume it is some odd exercise for stress management, but they will diagnose anything as stress !! Why ??
Anyhow, this marks the first Thoughtspew entry number 1. It's as described on the tin can: thought spewed onto the digital world. I have little regard for my digital footprint at the moment. ( although the branding choice of the blog is already an indicator of such !! )
While we're at it, I might as well drop the strict fancy schamncy talk for this as well. I grow tired of following odd English thousand-year-old punctuation rules HATE !!
i love thoughtdpew |
pink ployd v
So you're hearing music. Yes, I'm hearing music. That is what I'm doing right now; I am hearing music. How do you hear music? I hear music with my ears. Humans hear with their ears, don't you see? Will you stop rhyming for once for Christ's sake? I may stop; I may not. I could stop, and I should stop. But the true question we should be asking, or rather the question you should be asking, is will i stop? Well, will you? I will, i will not! You will stop rhyming now, Mr. Rhyme Guy! Ok, ok, no need to be so hostile about it. What have I done wrong to you for you to speak up to me like that? I am going to order a pizza as reconciliation for this. I will be seeing my lawyers soon because I m going to court for tax evasion. That is an unfortunate thing to hear. Will there be lunch at the trial? I believe there will be sandwiches for two dollars per atom. A king's ransom for a sub? This is preposterous! The pigs are on the wing, and there are three different ones. Please do not resist saving attempts. You are going to court and in the court there will be expensive lunch. Are the sandwiches any good? They are technically fancy imported European brioche partisan parmesean lunch loafs with stinky cheeses in them. But what do they taste like? They taste like socks and weird oily bread and cloud fluff, if you can imagine this. I will imagine this now - I would like to forget imagining that now. The past is inalterable, but it can branch out. Go to the court and ask them if you can go to the branch where you forget about things. But they will charge me with lack of ID! You live in a house, though. What do you worry about?

i like the below song it is a very good song
sometimes i imagine myself making a hype up suicide playlist or something like that like a sort of mozart's lacrimosa outro song
youtube
very lovely tune i would add this song to my aforementioned playlist if it did exist ( for satirical and for legal reasons, all thoughtspews are completely ficticuous and NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY !! 🍩🍩 )

i am fighting for my life on this forsaken blog so i wanted to make it clear (in case i haven’t explicitly said so before) what we over here at Narutoad™️ value (chart included below for further reference):
- traumatized oldest sibling figures
- smart people
- girls who can and will punch you in the face
- long hair & hairlines with varying degrees of tragedy
- wearing regulation headbands as intended OR wearing regulation headbands any way except as intended
- receiving a status promotion in a shocking turn of events at the chunin exams, receiving the promotion you deserve at the chunin exams, or immediately losing at the chunin exams (only acceptable if you lose to another individual on the chart)
- people who got married after a slow burn and now have an awesome kid
- people who were set up for a slow burn (that was destroyed by completely preventable and unnecessary canon events) and should by all rights have an awesome kid
- powerful, single women
- women who are entrepreneurs
- those who wield the power of youth and hate themselves for it
- those who have the will of fire and hate themselves for it
if you do not fit into at least three of those categories you are probably going to be the victim of a wicked burn or a satirical post that gets taken too seriously.
hope this helps 💕

Art of Aardman
Tumblr media
I found myself a cheap copy of the Shaun the Sheep movie, so I was rewatching a bunch of Aardman films earlier this month and decided to hunt down some books too. For anyone that doesn’t know, Aardman is a British stop-motion studio that does fantastic work like Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run, Early Man… tons of cool stuff. They’re always quirky and funny and warm-hearted. This was just a very nice art book for anyone that’s a fan of Aardman stop motion and wants to see a bit extra; it shows some cool concept art and blows up the neat details in Aardman work, especially in their intricate stuff like The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!
Asterix and the Picts (Asterix and the Chariot Race, and How Obelix Fell Into The Magic Potion)
Tumblr media
I decided to try a couple of the new Asterix comics that were done by the new team, just to see if they stand up to the old ones (that and How Obelix Fell Into The Magic Potion cause I’d never read that one before). They were pretty decent! Asterix and the Picts was my favourite of the two though I wouldn’t say either are going to contest for my favourite Asterix comic... but still! The art looks good and the stories felt like what I would expect, they made for a pleasant couple evenings of reading especially since it’s been so long since I’ve read a new Asterix comic. If you’ve never read Asterix it’s one of the biggest name French comic series in North America, as far as I know and very worth the read. It’s about a single Gaulish village that’s holding out against the invading Romans through sheer force of will, slapstick hijinks, and a magical super-strength potion brewed by their druid. Lots of fantastic visuals and cute wordplay, even in the English translations.
Bear
Tumblr media
I found out about this bastion of Canadian literature via tumblr post that was losing its collective mind over the fact that some bizarre bear-based erotica novella somehow won the most prestigious literary prize available in Canada. Since I too found this hilarious and unspeakably bizarre I had to give it a read, obviously. And yes, the flat surface level summary is... a librarian moves out into rural Ontario and falls in love with a literal for-real not-supernatural-not-a-joke bear. And I have to say… it is actually worthy of an award, which I was not expecting given that I was there for a laugh. It has beautiful writing, and the subtextual story is pretty interesting… it kind of makes me think of The Haunting of Hill House actually in terms of themes. (Womanhood, personhood, independence, autonomy partially achieved through escaping the male gaze by claiming non-human lovers... listen if I were still in university I would right a paper comparing the two novels).
I dunno man, it’s fucking weird. Actually a well-written book, but sure is about a woman falling in love with a literal bear. Give it a read if you want something bonkers but like… high-brow bonkers.
Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites
Tumblr media
Best book I have read in like… a while. A long while. I am not a fast reader, and I consumed 90% of this book over a weekend. It’s not at all like Terry Pratchett, but at the same time it scratched an itch for me that I haven’t had satisfied since Pratchett’s death. A very clever, hilariously funny poly romance between a disabled werewolf, an anxious vampire lord, and an incredibly powerful woman, with heaps of social satire, political commentary, and sinister undertones. The whole thing reads a bit like fanfiction and I say that in the most flattering way possible -- it is so easy to jump right in and be immediately taken over by the characters and the world and the plot, you never feel like you’re fighting to engage even though the world-building is fascinating and expansive. It welcomes you in right away, it was the book equivalent of a quilt and a hug which is something I sorely needed with all this pandemic bullshit. If you read any of the books on this list, go read that one while I sit here in pain waiting for the sequel.
Kid Paddle
Tumblr media
I watched the cartoon of Kid Paddle as a kid and was thinking about it recently, so I decided to hunt down some of the original comics online. They’re fun and weird, with a cute art style and fantastic monsters designs. (My favourites are always about Kid either daydreaming or playing games that involve Midam’s weird warty troll creatures. It’s like a cross between Calvin and Hobbes and Foxtrot with the fun sort of quirks that I love in Belgian comics. Unfortunately, unlike Asterix, I’ve only come across these ones in French, but if you can read French it’s totally worth popping over to The Internet Archive and reading the ones they have available.
Tumblr media
The Last Firehawk: The Golden Temple
Tumblr media
The lastest Firehawk book. Despite being written for quite young readers, I did enjoy the early books in this series quite a bit. They’re about a young owl and squirrel who found an egg for a magical species that was believed to be extinct. With the newly hatched firehawk, the three of them head off on a mission to find an ancient firehawk magic that could save the entire forest. Very basic adventure story but a good intro to the tropes for children. Unfortunately the quality really feels like it drops with each subsequent book; this will probably be the last one I bother reading.
Lumberjanes: The Moon Is Up
Tumblr media
I honestly think I enjoy these Lumberjanes novels even more than the comics just because it really gives time to delve into each story and examine how the camper are really thinking and feeling about everything. (Also I’m always weak for novelizations of anything.) The Moon Is Up is a book that focuses more on Jo, and takes place during the camp’s much anticipated Galaxy Wars, a competition between cabins that goes over several days. While the campers prepare for these challenges though, they also run into a strange little creature with a penchant for cheese and theft. Roanoke cabin needs to keep ahead in Galaxy Wars and somehow deal with the fearsome Moon Pirates that a closing in...
Lumberjanes v4 (Out Of Time)
Tumblr media
One of the Lumberjanes comics, a cool, girl-focused, queer comic series. Honestly, this is just a fun series that I never got as into as I should have. My advice is honestly to skip book one because it gets better as it continues, and I’ve really been enjoying the later books now that I’ve given it another go. It follows five campers at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types (Jo, April, Molly, Mal, and Ripley) as they handle all sorts of challenges, from friendship to crushes, camp activities to supernatural horrors, getting badges to not being brutally killed. Great if you liked the vibe of Gravity Falls but want it to be queer-er.
Mooncakes
Tumblr media
Another queer graphic novel, but unfortunately not a very good one. It really looked appealing and I had high hopes, but the book itself really didn’t hold up… I actually couldn’t even finish it, the plot was just too… non-existent. The art is fairly mediocre once you actually look at it, especially backgrounds, and it feels very… placid. Not much conflict or excitement or even a very compelling reason to keep reading. If you just want a soft queer supernatural you may get more mileage out of it than me, but it didn’t really do it for me. There’s better queer graphic novels out there.
New Boy In Town
Tumblr media
One of the worst books I have ever read. My girlfriend had ordered a very different book online but through a frankly stupendous error was sent this 1980s pulp romance instead. Absolutely nauseating on levels I couldn’t even begin to enumerate here. Naturally we read the whole thing out loud. Probably took us 10 times longer to finish than it warranted because I had to stop every two sentences to lose my mind. If you like bad decisions, baffling hetero courting rituals, built-in cultural Christianity without actually calling it that, and gold panning then boy howdy is this the book for you.
(seriously, you better have patience for gold-panning if you attempt this one, because I sure learn that I don’t)
Piggies
Tumblr media
This was a picture book I enjoyed as a kid and had a reason to reread recently. Honestly it’s just very cute and simple, and the art is completely mesmerizing. Wonderful if you know a young child that would enjoy a simple goofy boardbook.
Shaun the Sheep: Tales From Mossy Bottom
Tumblr media
Related to my Aardman fascination earlier this month. I tried reading a varieties of Shaun the Sheep books — most of which are mediocre at best — but the Tales From Mossy Bottom Farm series is genuinely good. Just chapter books, of course, but the illustrations match the series’ concept art and each story feels like it could have jumped directly out of an episode. They’re just cute and feel-good! Kinda like Footrot Flats but more for kids, and from the sheep’s perspective moreso than the dog’s.

Character Design Thoughts for Shen Yuan & Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky in ‘The Untold Tale’
(This is a Follow Up to This Post)
Tumblr media
Hello, @averydrearydiana! Loved reading through your tags! I’m excited that you’re excited! Since I’m also seeing comments on AO3 speculating about how our transmigrators are going to appear as in The Untold Tale, I might as well give my current thoughts and have this archived on tumblr for future reference.
A fun fact about TUT is that a lot of the imagery in the story is inspired by Chinese PVs and popular C-dramas and literature. Since TUT is conceived as a lovestory to SVSSS, one element that I’d wanted to incorporate is playful attempts at satirical genre deconstruction. With that comes with me playfully poking fun at some clichés or things I’ve noticed in Chinese works.
Shen Yuan’s Celestial Design
Before I talk about his mortal appearance, I have to give a lil context about his celestial design in the story. We already know what he looks like as the celestial fortuneteller in TUT’s cover art that I’ve already posted on tumblr. As everyone knows, I was heavily inspired by this Chinese PV:
undefined
youtube
Tumblr media
(TUT ch1 - Excerpt)
Among the things I’ve noticed are the fictional characters with white hair. We have a whole subculture of fans liking male character designs with white hair in anime and animation. Taking that a step further, they’ve even shown up in C-dramas, i.e. Teng She from Love and Redemption (technically more blond than platinum white, but shhhhh, just let me have this), Dong Hua Dijun from Eternal Love of Dream aka Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (rest assured, I’m aware of the source material’s controversy, but let’s not get into that here), etc. One of the tags for TUT is Opposites Attract. Luo Binghe’s color coordination is aligned with black and red mostly. Now, visually speaking, what’s the opposite of that?
The yin yang symbol.
Fun fact, besides black vs white, green (SY) is the complementary color of red (LBG) on the color wheel. Now taking everything I’ve said, to take it even one step further, my thought process at the time was, “why not go the extra mile then and just have SY be albino? Within context of the Heavenly Realm, that character design makes sense.” TUT is me subtly riffing off what I can (for the good ol’ meta humor), but making the content come across as a legitimate story experience. As Protagonist A and Protagonist B, LBG and SY have to look visually striking together. With all that said, let’s talk about....
Tumblr media
(In reference to the original tumblr post)
Shen Yuan (Mortal)
I’ll keep some elements of his albinism from his celestial form (light sensitivity and pale skin mostly), but SY’s mortal form is essentially SY pre-transmigration but within context of the xianxia genre.
Tumblr media
For his appearance, let’s just keep this Author’s Note^ and TUT’s summary in the back of our brains. This is the fanvid I was originally inspired by for SY’s mortal appearance:
undefined
youtube
Tumblr media
(TUT Summary - Excerpt)
For what he wears, I’m currently feeling very heavily inspired by this PV:
undefined
youtube
His mortal appearance wouldn’t be considered as “strange” or “otherworldly” compared to the “ethereal fairy-like beauty” SY retains in the Heavenly Realm, but as a side-effect of the 【PROTAGONIST’S HALO】 and his +20 CHARISMA stat, he would still be considered attractive to people even when he takes on a mortal appearance. (Mainly, I like the idea of Bing gē taking large shots of vinegar seeing SY turning heads no matter which appearance SY takes on, and Luo Binghe glaring at these “insects” for even “daring to lay their unworthy eyes on his fated person.” The thought of it just makes me laugh.)
What I mean by how SY’s mortal form being very much based on how SY appeared pre-transmigration but in the xianxia genre context, I mean hell have his dark hair (but longer), a “scholarly air” (as a nod to his novelist background), dark eyes, and even his glasses technically (the divine monocle mentioned in ch3, which is also a subtle nod to Sha Po Lang and a riff on men wearing monocles in other Chinese works andit’salsoforeshadowingbutshhhh).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(TUT ch3 - Excerpt)
Shen Yuan originally was an author in his forties pre-transmigration, so I like the idea him having a mature air about him in the Cultivation World as well. So for both our Protagonist B’s celestial and mortal appearances, the idea is that you can look at him and immediately recognize him as a protagonist of the danmei setting. My only two prerequisites are that his appearance screams “hello, I’m Protagonist B” and that he appears in “scholarly” attire.
Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky (Mortal)
Keeping in mind the original tumblr post where I wrote my thoughts on who I’m transmigrating him as, currently I’m thinking it’s a combination of these two PVs for his mortal form:
undefined
youtube
undefined
youtube
Tumblr media
As a nod to him being a successful novelist, I wanted him to also appear scholarly. A scholarly crown prince, if you will. For his attire, imagine all the C-drama clothing you’ve seen actors wear in period dramas, and you already have a good idea already of the direction I’m heading down.
As the prince of the cannon fodder emperor, I very much like the idea of Airplane perhaps having a baby face and brown hair (as a small nod to fanon!SQH from SVSSS) but with a great body (a huge source of inspiration are clothing worn by Prince Yu and Prince Jing of the three princes from the C-drama Nirvana in Fire). Since Airplane will also be able to select his Character Creation stats like Shen Yuan had, one thing I’m fairly certain is that he will max out his CONSTITUTION—because “game logic” and not wanting to die. (For those who don’t know, the CON stat in tabletop RPs essentially indicates a person’s overall health, wellbeing, and vigor checks...so him maxing it out is equivalent to him being as invulnerable as a cockroach. A high CON means overall healthiness, which means your character probably is full of energy and vitality, can heal rapidly, and will rarely get sick—if ever. Low CON usually means a higher susceptibility to sickness and disease, wounds that fester and linger, and a general fatigue would haunt you, etc.) Like how SY zeroed in on his CHA, Airplane would have prioritized +20 CON (+5 modifier), especially knowing the fate that’d await him as a prince and the vicious environment that is expected for palace intrigue plots (the harem is a big factor, with concubines and consorts and even the empress sabotaging each other—just to win the favor of one man). Against poison or whatnot which is a cliché in palace intrigue plots, rather than relying on luck, you typically stand a better chance of passing the CON check if you have a high modifier aiding your checks. He’s basically become impervious to illnesses, most poisons (probably being able to spring back quickly), and is considered the healthiest prince in all the mortal imperial line. <- This could be taken both seriously and humorously simultaneously.
Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky (Deity/ Celestial)
For Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī’s “actual divine body” that is currently asleep and won’t be awakened until Airplane completes his mortal trial to “regain his cultivation powers,” the face should obviously be similar but, as Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī, he would appear regal and dignified as a god of this world:
Tumblr media
Imagine something along the lines of mortal Airplane as the man on the right, celestial Shen Yuan in the center, and deity/ celestial Airplane as the man on the left. I envision a respectable appearance that would knock the air out of Mobei jūn and make him recognize Airplane despite any visual dissimilarities, and in a way we have the Four Beauties of China: Luo Binghe, Shen Yuan, Mobei jūn, and Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī.
I will say I currently have an idea of making Airplane have “golden” eyes in both his celestial and mortal forms. (Spoiler alert: in my notes, I’d written down to give Airplane yellow eyes as an Easter egg to Yanxi Palace, I believe, where there was an episode where someone of the imperial harem schemed against the empress and almost had the newborn baby killed because that and the yellow skin was an inauspicious omen. We later find out through a timely intervention that the true reason was due to jaundice—because of the diet/ pregnancy cravings she ate for a period of time which resulted in her son’s symptoms. With Airplane’s high CON and another trope I’m bringing in which’ll have to do with the Medicine King’s Valley/ Valley of the Medicine King, his yellow eyes are the only side effect that lingered from that traumatic event which would have killed him had they gotten away with their scheme. A lot of palace dramas have to do with the vicious harem plots, so this would potentially be one such example.) The reason being that this is the identifying marker for MBJ to clue in that they’re the same man he will have loved. And I think that has romantic potential.
Misc.
Now addressing the other tags, yes, essentially speaking, Mobei jūn might just very well experience his very own Big Damn Reunion trope that Bing mèi had suffered from SVSSS. Poor MBJ. He’s in a tumultuous ride of his own with him considering Airplane as his own fated person, hahaha. But for the Moshang dynamic, I want him—a demon—to find himself taken with Airplane in his mortal guise—and subsequently his true celestial appearance once he finds out. I very much also want SY to jokingly snark to his fellow transmigrator-and-writing-colleague about him getting in a relationship with his own “creation” (MBJ). And Airplane would jokingly snark back about SY “ruining his ‘first son’ as well” (LBG). If you can read between the lines of that, then kudos. I’m glad to hear you’re looking forward to the palace intrigue.
I’m especially very happy to hear you’re looking forward to the descriptions! I personally love worldbuilding in the stories I consume I’m an interior designer and realtor irl, so I’m glad my love of house details and landscape, etc shows in TUT. For the pseudohistorical vibe, in the Mortal Realm, I will be referencing the Forbidden City of our Chinese history and a couple popular period C-dramas. Take the settings of period C-dramas like Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace, Yanxi Palace, and Nirvana in Fire as examples for what will be awaiting us when we finally meet Airplane in his mortal body. In the Heavenly Realm, the descriptions will be heavily referencing shows that contain aesthetics such as those of Ashes of Love, Love and Redemption, and Eternal Dream.
Take this with a grain of salt just in case I change my mind later on, but in the chapter when we meet Airplane for the first time, I probably won’t say which character he is in the first scene. I’ll give plenty of hints in the first scene so that you all can make your guesses before the big reveal, but I’m fairly confident you all or most of you will be able to pinpoint who he is among the cannon fodders. We’ll meet the emperor, who is discussing with his sons about the matter regarding the approaching calamity that is Luo Binghe. Then when we transition into the second scene, we’ll know exactly which “royal prince OC” it is that our beloved Airplane has transmigrated into, hahaha.
(*Keep in mind, for everything written above, some details are subject to change. Nothing is official until it appears in the story, or I’ve actually drawn my ideas out and posted online to both my tumblr and twitter. These are just my current thoughts.)
A goal of mine for TUT is to make the story widely accessible, meaning it doesn’t matter if the reader is new to the SVSSS fandom or aren’t familiar with the Easter egg references or meta jokes or subtext or even the Chinese culture, or even if English is not their first language. Having knowledge beforehand might help someone notice more hidden details in TUT, yes, but it is a humble wish of this writer for her esteemed readers to be able to dive into the story and get the enjoyable feeling like they’re reading a genuine danmei novel. It really makes me smile whenever I hear feedback that I am able to emulate that experience.
Very exciting developments indeed are in store!

Cory Wurtenberger
Da’Vonne Rogers
Janelle Pierzina, Will Kirby, Jag Bains, Cirie Fields and Cameronald (BB25) were called but they declined (thank goodness about the later).
That’s a pretty solid cast they have there. It’d be a shame if some alternate timeline frickery were to… complicate things.

don’t understand all the takes that are like “the original gossip girl was SATIRE it was FUNNY it was A COMMENTARY ON RICH KIDS it was NOT INTENDED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY” because it’s simply not true. it was a teen drama with occasionally comedic moments, sometimes at the height of the theatrics, but it was not trying to be a satire. it wasn’t trying to be a commentary either, given that every time the rich kids were called to task and had their privilege pointed out, they quickly undermined the poorer kids and triumphed over them. and he show constantly went out of its way to demonise the “poor” kids to make the rich kids look better which is why jenny and vanessa’s actions were marked as so irredeemable they had to leave nyc and dan had to be turned into a complete sociopath so chuck would look good in comparison. that said i do think the reboot would be a lot more fun if they tried to make it more of a comedy instead of switching between weird empty humour and Serious Prestige Television bc it just makes everything feel hollow. especially if you’re going down the “underpaid teachers who have to cater to the needs of rich kids otherwise they’ll lose their job are ACTUALLY predatory stalkers” route. also all the references to the original series feel so shoehorned in like i know nate is a senator now or w/e but that man was not a brilliant student LOL and being like “chuck and blair are so dramatic they definitely existed before cancel culture” just feels like a weird deflection of all the valid criticisms people have about that relationship which are the same ones they’ve been having for over a decade, well before “”cancel culture”” or w/e. anyway it’s been said but it shouldn’t be trying to Be gossip girl again but shinier bc original gg was a product of its time and it just makes so much of the reboot fall flat which sucks because a lot of the characters really are likeable and the cast is solid. i’m also probably not the target audience if they’re trying to reach a new generation of people given that i grew up on the original and am now Old (see: over the age of 18). they still should have opened with young folks though idc.

I’m getting really sick of how I’ve recently been seeing an occasional post here and there on the Hetalia tag that’s just shitting on Hetalia, saying how it’s so bad and racist and such.
Hetalia is meant to be pure satire, you’re not meant to take anything seriously unless they enter a few emotional beats (Davie episode for example) that don’t even touch the stereotypes and rather world build. (Like on the Davie episode, it explored the fact that nations outlive humans)
I’m part of the now present day gen, the old stuff is fucking history, I’ve heard of the shit that USED to happen in Hetalia but so far on how I’ve been here, the fandom is nothing like that anymore and whatever happened back then would not be allowed to happen now. Even if something harmful did possibly rise up, then from the looks of things the Hetalia fandom will definetly come together to stop it as we don’t tolerate this shit.
I’ve never encountered anyone in the fandom who has actually taken the stereotypes or other things and turned them into something they actually believe in. If you really think we are like this and are so quick to take stereotypes, then really who is the real problem here. You’re also truly implying that everyone in the Hetalia fandom then are a buncha sick-minded people?
Also the fact that you accuse us of being racist when you don’t even have proper examples, one should always explain their reason on why they think of something like that, please, I’d be very glad to hear why you actually think that, and see the examples made in the PRESENT DAY that support your opinion thats actually widespread. Don’t look at the small bad sideof the fandom that every fandom has, look at the huge majority of, what you COMMONLY see.
If you don’t tell us what we’re doing wrong, how can we fix ourselves?
Hetalia is very important to many people, it has been able to bring friends together, grow passions, in Hetalia especially you can find so much historical things and find people who geniuenly love history and culture of certain countries. In this fandom you can especially find so many people from all over the world, all sharing our love for Hetalia, all friends, if we were truly racist is it would be a called out problem by now if people indeed were massively getting hurt from it. There are many neurodivergent people who are hyperfixated on this. Many find their comfort in this series especially with what’s going on right now in the world.
Hetalia is flawed, of course, like any other series, book, or anything in the world. Nothing is perfect, but that’s fine.
It’s fine not to like a series, but please do not use the fandom’s tag where everyone hopes to see good things to share your dislike for it.
There is enough negativity in the world, and people deserve to not have any comfort things to be attacked. Be mature, if you don’t like it, just block the tags so make sure you don’t see content of what you hate. If this series and fandom was TRULY extremely harmful, then it would have already completely been killed off back when it started and not have 7 seasons and outright musicals, as there would have been so much more hate towards it and such.
You can attack me as much as you want <3 It would just show how you have nothing better to do with your life. I also dislike some things but I don’t discourage people who can find enjoyment out of it.

why didn’t you say anything about the racism bts have faced these past days :(
Hey anon!
I actually haven‘t been online here because of the racism debate. I was on twitter and was supporting it there on two accounts nonstop! if you want to follow me, my @ is also jeonjk0504 :)
You are completely right though, i should have spoken up on my platform here sooner, to educate my followers on this really important matter!
If i make mistakes or should word things differently, please let me know, as you can tell i‘m not native.
The short version:
Tumblr media
Credits to @ squishykosmos (twt)!
What happened?
3 days ago, the german radio host Matthias Mattuschik from the station Bayern3 spew racist remarks about BTS because of their MTV Unplugged cover of coldplay. He is a fanboy of coldplay and only wanted to introduce their song ‚Fix you‘ but somehow it was necessary to explain to his listeners why it was an utter insult that BTS had an MTV unplugged concert (he called it paradox, because it‘s a boyband) where they were allowed to cover his favorite song. Coldplay allowed the cover by the way and even commented on it positively.
Here are two links from his original rant, translated in english:
https://twitter.com/bts_updates_ger/status/1365211269133971458?s=21 (Part 1)
https://twitter.com/atinystrawbery/status/1365052883771785219?s=21 (Part 2)
As a german i know that to other people our language sounds quite agressive in general, but this is a whole different level. This isn‘t said in a jokingly way, it‘s pure hatred.
He called BTS a virus against which hopefully there will be a vaccine soon, that their cover of coldplay is blasphemy and that they are little pisser who should get a 20-year vacation in North Korea. Considering the rising violence against Asians all over the world because of Covid, his speech is extremely harmful and normalizes hate against Asians apart from the fact that it was racism in it’s purest form. Why the wish for a South Korean Group to have vacation in the North Korean dictatorship is inhumane and racist, i hopefully don‘t have to explain further. He even said, he can‘t be xenophobic, because he drives a korean brand car (which turned out to be japanese). The new ‚i can‘t be racist, i have a black friend‘.
This also hasn‘t been the first time, in 2018 he made an antisemetic comparison between smoker and jews for which he got a little attention, but no consequences.
Furthermore ARMY dug up a picture on his instagram from 2020 with the caption ‚ Is more evidence needed?!?,‘
Tumblr media
A short note:
What makes this even more infuriating is that the radio station is regulated by public-law and german citizens are OBLIGATED to pay for it. We literally are forced to pay money to a radio station that broadcasts openly racist slurs! And no, it‘s not allowed. They have policies that explicitly say they are not allowed to discriminate, they have to support diversity and have to be politically and economically independant.
Do they give a fuck? Apparently not really.
Did Bayern3 answer the hashtags and the pressure?
They did, first came a short nonpology where they said that the show, which Matthias Matuschik is broadcasting, is known for his direct and honest opinions and that he could have worded it better. They are sorry if anyone felt insulted, which is excusing the feeling of the fans, but not the act in itself.
After Army answered with the hashtag ‚Racism is not an opinion‘ and various media coverage surfaced, they posted a second ‚apology‘, where they -again- said that they are distancing themselves from what was said and Matthias has always been an avid supporter of refugees so he is very far away from being a racist. (Supporting refugees doesn’t excuse you from saying racist things though.) Matthias stated that he is shocked from the reactions, that he is ‚sorry if people felt what he said was racist‘ and that his family is getting death threats. (which is in no way acceptable of course.) They would review what was said so it doesn‘t happen again.
Here you can read the statements in german and translated in english:
First statement: https://twitter.com/bts_updates_ger/status/1365087239756259330?s=21
Second statement: https://twitter.com/bts_updates_ger/status/1365305564050382849?s=21
This would have probably been the beginning of a conversation, if Matthias wouldn‘t have went to facebook after his second apology to like a supporting post that basically stated that the topic is way overhyped and in the 80s you were allowed to say your opinion without people getting butthurt (this is a short form.) He completely revised his remorse literally the same day after the updated apology and supported a statement that was gaslighting the people who critized him. You can read the facebook post here:
https://twitter.com/traveltomyrm/status/1365321397342461957?s=21
Since then: Nothing. My mom told me yesterday they‘re playing dynamite a lot, i told her to switch the channel.
News Coverage
Thankfully, we got a lot of support from I-ARMY and K-ARMY, otherwise we wouldn‘t have been able to trend the hashtags day and night and kept them in the top categories in germany and worldwide. We also got a lot of support from international media who called out the racism and put them into context in really amazing articles. (Also K-Media and J-Media but i only have screenshots, no links) Here are a few of them:
https://rollingstoneindia.com/xenophobic-german-presenters-comments-about-bts-are-just-the-tip-of-the-racist-iceberg/
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bryanrolli/2021/02/26/bts-were-once-again-the-subject-of-racist-on-air-remarks-and-received-a-pathetic-non-apology/
We even got celebrities like halsey, max, lauv, steve aoki, JJ Ryan, DJ Swivel, Liam McEwan, Zara Larsson, MTV UK, Columbia Records and some more bring attention to the issue and show their support for BTS in the face of racism.
This support was probably the reason why we even got a second ‚apology‘, because guess what? German media ain‘t having it. Since the beginning of our protest, i think i saw 2 articles in total which actually called it racism, various newspapers and online magazines were downplaying it by talking about ‚insults‘ and concentrating on Matthias calling BTS pisser instead of quoting the actual racist remarks he made. We got no TV news whatsoever. So naturally, german locals looking at this protest think that Fans are going on a rampage because their favorite boygroup got insulted.
It has been maddening. The radio station and host have been trying to sit this whole thing out for days, in hope we lose energy over the weekend and it‘s draining to not be heard or taken seriously. For me it‘s still a priviledged perspective, because i don‘t have to bear consequences when this thing is over, one way or another. But for Asians in our country, also some of my friends, this horror in times of covid will continue. The lack of serious German Media coverage has been frustrating and embarrasing to say the least, but also shown again, that the topic gets overshadowed by prejudices against KPop, the fanbase and Asians as part of satirical fun (which it isn‘t).
Why is that?
This is my personal take and not a deep analysis, just my personal observations: Germany might be progressive in a lot of aspects, but they still have deeply ingrained every day racism against asians and they have a huge problem realizing and admitting to that. We don‘t have a lot of asian representation and there is a huge alieniation from asians for a lot of german 50+ (also less, but those are the ones in power mostly). Racism against Asians is not seen enough and people don‘t empathize, partly because they‘re white privileged people who don‘t have to live with certain stigma, partly because they simply don‘t care to educate themselves about minorities in their own country. This ignorance is widespread, if it doesn‘t happen in front of your doorstep, it‘s probably nonexistant. It‘s also not only reserved for Asians, january 2021 we had a talkshow where 5 white german people talked happily about what minorities such as Romani people think as insulting or racist. They did get a lot of backleash because obviously they talk about matters, without letting minorities be part of the discussion, but real consequences? Nope.
I doubt that this protest will get Matthias Matuschik fired (which it should if you are openly racist on a public platform), because the pressure is too low and the radio station has shown with their first statement that they thought it‘s rather funny than problematic. But i don’t know what‘s going to happen. Apart from being an ARMY, i am an adult who condemns racism in any way or form. Why german media chooses to overlook the essence of the debate and makes it a hystercial fanbase issue is beyond me.
If you want to have a look yourself, you can follow German Fanbase accounts, such as @ BTS_UPDATES_GER for updates in german and english.
And at last, here is a thread on how german media reproduces Anti Asian Racism : https://twitter.com/storiesbythuy/status/1366073706817196046?s=21
German Armys are trying to come up with a plan to gain more attention for the topic at the moment, so we‘ll see how things turn out! Please support us if possible!

while on goodreads I did also find...
...this book
Tumblr media
Which...for one thing, just look at the description
Water is scarce. Deserts have taken over the land. Nuclear war has devastated humanity. Humans live in walled super cities to keep out the irradiated. The land that was formerly known as America is divided into kingdoms ruled by royal elites.
Born into the lowest Echelon of the Kingdom of Phangloria, sixteen-year-old Zea Calico faces a life of hunger, thirst, and toil. The only way out of this drudgery is revolution, and Zea is desperate to help the cause.
When the palace calls for candidates to compete to marry Prince Kevon, Zea joins the Princess Trials to search the palace for weaknesses.
The trials should be a fairytale of sumptuous meals, ballgowns, and romance, but one misplaced word causes Zea to attract the Prince’s attention. When Zea uncovers the man beneath Prince Kevon’s public facade, she is at risk of falling in love and losing sight of her mission.
But the televised beauty pageant turns deadly, and Zea must fight for survival.
Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and The Selection, this exciting tale of courage, intrigue, and betrayal will have you turning pages.
I literally JUST made a joke about a YA love interest with a name rhats just “Kevin” but spelled weird. end me
This thing is drifting in the misty hinterland of “sounds like it should be satire out of context, but literally no way to tell.”
I have to say though, if this book wasn’t trying to like...take itself completely seriously, and instead just tried to have as much fun as possible...it could be great. Like let’s take all of the fluffiest and most vapid tropes of YA dystopia, and inject BATTLE TO THE DEATH back into them with no attempt to integrate. Could be fun.
Is that...is the name of the kingdom just “Vainglory” spelled weird?
