Thank you for the ask. It's still new to me to talk about my system, at least on Tumblr specifically, but I'd like all of us Sonders to be more comfortable here and asks like this help.

💕: Who is the most recent alter/headmate/member of the system you've discovered/met?

A: We actually had a new headmate show up a few days ago. Her name is Gloria, she mainly goes by the nickname Ria. We have a few high-energy women in our system and she's one of them -- so far she's very enthusiastic about helping everyone out and prides herself on her ability to balance having fun and being responsible. Being in the immediate headspace is a largely voluntary position, and we're pretty certain she volunteered specifically to show off that ability. Also, she's already getting along well with the other Sonder women and femmes.

🍋: How many are near the front right now?

A: As of the last time we did a Simply Plural chat Roll Call around noon, there were 5-6 of us close to front. I (Ky) am practically a constant, being in or near front around 98% of the time. Everyone else usually comes and goes from front in groups of 1-6 system members at a time. Right now it's me (Ky, he/him), Natalie (he/him), Leif (he/they), Yuuki (he/him) blurred with Logan (he/him), and Sara (she/her).

"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾‍♀️

I say a lot that Wash isn't empathetic when talking about people giving him Carolina's personality, but I don't think that really explains my thinking. Empathy is too vague of a concept in discussion of character.

Wash cares a lot about people. Wash cares so much it hurts. He trains the Chorusans without being asked, on his own initiative. He doesn't leave the reds and blues at the first sign of trouble. He's traumatized by violence by his own hand that he still agrees with the logic of, he remembers what he's done to people and while he doesn't regret it, it still haunts him. He doesn't want to care so bad but he does, he cares so much that violence against relative strangers hurts. Even if it was his best choice. Even if it was his only choice.

Carolina doesn't want people to know violence like she does. Carolina wants to tackle the whole world to keep it away from the ones she loves. Carolina wants to be the one to handle everything, to keep war off the doorstep.

Washington knows violence, and well. He thinks it is something that sometimes is the best option. He knows how to make the people he loves capable of protecting themselves. So he does.

Carolina is someone who wants to protect. Washington is someone who wants to teach people to protect themselves. Carolina wants to be the one to offer shelter in the rain. Washington wants to burn the fire so hot and so bright the rain evaporates before it can ever touch them, so hot it never even comes down, so bright no one could ever get lost. And he wants to teach everyone he cares for just how to do it, too.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - What We Leave Behind

“You don't make a name as a cyberpunk by how you live. You're remembered by how you die.”

And yet after David’s death when Lucy is on the moon she remembers him for his life. She remembers who he was when she first met him and why she was drawn to him in the first place. She remembers how happy and passionate he was when she showed him her dream. It was that part of him that pushed her forward and made her fall in love.

She remembers David Martinez, not the edgerunner, but the human.

So much of Cyberpunk Edgerunners focuses on just how little we really leave behind once we’re gone. Many of the characters die suddenly without warning and there is nothing tangible to remember them by. The only characters that leave something physical behind are Maine and Gloria. Their keepsakes are carried on David and are later destroyed during David’s final mission.

Even David’s death has nothing tangible to show for it. He didn’t get the chance to leave a keepsake or a physical part of himself. Even how he died is covered up by the Arasaka corporation so it isn’t replayed on those chips we saw at the beginning.

But people aren’t just measured by what they physically leave behind but by how they impact the people around them and how their memory is carried forward. That’s what that final scene is about. 

The show ultimately places the emphasis on the connections you make when alive and the impact you had on the people around you. 

Lucy’s dream was to go to the moon but after his promise to take her there it shifted to going to the moon with David. He can’t be there in the physical sense but she carries him with her on the moon through her memories.

The final few shots even mirror episode 2 when Lucy showed David her simulation of the moon and Lucy even takes David’s place in a few of the shot recreations to emphasize the point.

This show is tragic with so many layers but this was what hit me the hardest when watching the finale.

It's very intriguing how Lyney is arguably the most favoured sibling among the three, and yet he also seems to be the most afraid of disobeying Arlecchino's orders and going against her wishes. Despite Lynette's and Freminet's reassurances, he almost always thinks Arlecchino is going to be angry with them/feel disappointed in them; when Arlecchino herself, while being stern, has never been such a harsh character to her children.

#Just a little thought. #And I suppose you could argue that it might be telling of Arlecchino's 'true nature' or whatever. #But I personally don't think that's the case. Why would she be completely different to Lyney alone? #I think that it comes from Lyney's OWN expectations of himself. He holds himself to a standard so high that he will inevitably fail to reach #because sometimes situations are complex and we need help. but he seems to refuse this and blame himself. #Lyney's got some SERIOUS issues with self esteem #which is funny because that's the complete opposite of what his outward demeanor seems to suggest. #genshin impact
