So, these are called:

Comb Jelly

About:

The comb jelly is a beautiful, oval-shaped animal with eight rows of tiny comblike plates that it beats to move itself through the water. As it swims, the comb rows break up (diffract) light to produce a shimmering rainbow effect. Voracious predators of other jellies, some comb jellies can expand their stomachs to hold prey nearly half their own size.

Natural history:

A jelly is a simple creature with few specialized organs. Most jellies can detect chemical traces in the water that allow them to locate food, and many are equipped with a gravity-sensitive structure, called a statocyst, that provides orientation in the water.

Cool face about comb jelly:

Alien as it looks, a jelly’s soft shape is perfectly adapted to its environment. Its thin skin stretches over a body that’s more than 95 percent water (no bones or shells to weigh it down).

A comb jelly will eat other comb jellies larger than itself by biting off chunks with special cilia structures in its mouth.

(extra: A jelly can be very sensitive to water quality during certain points in its lifecycle. Changes in the health of jelly populations may be a tip-off to larger environmental problems.)

I saw this when I was a small child and it stuck with me like a nail into wood, it still blows me away with how smooth and imaginative it is with its creature design and animation. I sincerely hope it gets more famous in the international scene, I barely ever hear about this movie (Allegro Non Troppo) even when talking specifically about italian animation.

how are your thoughts on elephants

Elephants are some utterly wonderful and fascinating creatures. They’re intelligent, they’re adorable, they’re megafauna. I haven’t looked too much into them since my elementary years (I’ve been a fair bit more interested in marine life than land animals) but the stuff I can remember about them is pretty cool, I love the prehensile nature of their trunks, I love the bristly hair of their tails. They’re just cool creatures.
