Tonight Sheila and I had friends over for a light dinner and board games.

She made Italian sliders (I seriously hate that word unless you're talking about glass patio doors). The tiny sandwiches (my preferred term) were fantastic.

King's Hawaiian rolls, pepperoni, ham, hard salami, gouda, Mezzetta roasted red bell peppers and banana peppers, and fresh shredded lettuce. I ate like 20 of them earlier tonight, but just writing about them now is making me hungry again.

Dessert was a pineapple upside down cake, topped with whipped cream, toasted coconut, and a maraschino cherry with stem*. Sheila tweaked the recipe by substituting a cup of piña colada juice where a cup of water was called for. The result was wonderful.

The dogs, being protective, initially barked at our guests. It didn't take long for them to calm down when each realized, "Hey, more people in the house means more fingers to scratch behind my hears and rub my back." So they shut up and reveled silently in the extra attention.

After so much attention Sulley was especially tired. But not too exhausted to put himself to bed all alone. He still retained a tiny bit of energy to nudge my shoulder, hoping I'd pet him some more. Or he might have fallen asleep attempting this.

#* Maraschino cherries without stems were one dollar cheaper than the ones with stems - that's what Sheila said #It makes me wonder if the stemless ones fell off the conveyor belt or through some crack in the machinery #Is that why they are less expensive? #I would have preferred saving one dollar #But Sheila insisted the recipe calls for cherries WITH stems #I think she just likes to spend money

Date guy was supposed to get back to me with what days worked for him for a second night out either yesterday or today but so far I haven't heard anything. I wanna text him to ask but also don't want to seem too clingy/desperate. People on the FWB track aren't supposed to need attention or reassurance, right? Telling myself that if he actually wants to go on another date, he'll contact me. He's got plenty more people to choose from besides me, anyway. Why whould he be in a rush.

Maybe this is why I almost always just keep my walls up and just turn down like 99% of the various app messages and/or dates I go on. Because as soon as I feel even a little teeny tiny bit of actual interest then I get way too fucking invested. Start agonizing about small details and stupid shit like the length of time between replies. Can't even get a timely response when I've already said I'm down to screw around. Maybe it's better to just stay numb and reject everybody because then at least it feels like it's *my* decision to be alone.

But then I'd never even have a chance to get laid, right? I guess I should get back to swiping. God I fucking hate dating app culture so much it all makes me wanna hurl. Just blow chunks all over my dating history.

crack aside, eden is actually genuinely worried and cautious of the idea of kafka finding out about her having someone she treasures deeply. she's secretly terrified of the thought of what kafka might do if she realized that eden has someone she values more than herself, someone she sees as more valuable than her own life. this is due to the fact that eden is unaware of what kind of future elio had foreseen, and how far would the destiny's slave go in order to make sure that future come into light. she is sure that if something or someone were to get in the way of her accomplishing what her role in this story and script is supposed to be, that kafka wouldn't hesitate to eliminate that obstacle no matter how much they might mean to her.

1. Old timey research boat

Reasoning: The ANGST POTENTIAL JUST THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THE OCEAN??? Very dangerous, cramped cabins, emotional/actual storm potential, PLUS YOU GET TO USE SEA CREATURES AS METAPHORS?? HELLO?? BONDING OVER NEW SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES?

2. Abandoned research outpost with only the necessary personnel left to shut it down

Reasoning: could be AMAZING for enemies to lovers, abandoned by institutions that they sold their lives to and finding solace and empathy in each other, also good potential for a tragic kind of story, like trying to force something because you love it, you love them, but it will never really work, and again the METAPHORS

3. Caribou trapper and ecologist cross paths in the Arctic tundra

Reasoning: similar vein as the abandoned research outpost, understanding each others worlds etc etc. SO much angst potential like just imagine the kind of shenanigans they could get up to with almost-frozen ponds and dark middays and deep snow banks. (Also I want to write a book and name it “where the ice sings and the sky dances” because of reasons)

4. Stuck in the middle generation of a generation ship

Reasoning: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHUUGHUGHHUH

6. Paleontology dig on another planet

7. Rural cyberpunk

Reasoning: gonna be honest I don’t know what rural cyberpunk would look like but it would be really interesting I think. You get the rural kind of loneliness and tractors and cold winters and strange animals in the night but you also get the cyberpunk aspect and how it pushes the boundaries of death, life, and humanity, the weird lights and cybernetics, and you can see the ways in which these two worlds could collide AND ONE PERSON COUKD BE LIKE A RUNAWAY FROM A CYBERPUNK CITY HIDING OUT IN THE COUNTRY AAAA
