These SJM books are such a ride lol.

I started with Acotar, which is so magical and all pretty, and so easy to love. Then ToG hit me like a brick because I find the plot heavier, and sad.

Then Crescent City... Oh boy. 🤣 It's like a cultural shock idk. Clubs? Mini skirts? When all I've read about these past months were these regal parties and long dresses. And the language?! I feel like a poor caveman who used a time machine by mistake. And guns! It's so funny to me.

I love it tho. Seems way lighter than ToG (but I'm only at the beginning of book one, so...) and it's fun to read. And it reminds me of Shadowhunters, so it's kind of nostalgic, too. It also gives me Cyberpunk vibes???, but maybe I'm the only one picturing it that way.

what do you think about the asteri being valg?

I'm almost certain the Daglan / Asteri are the same considering Midgard / Prythian's histories seem to merge and the Asteri call the creatures who were overthrown their brothers and sisters.

Are the Daglan / Asteri also Valg? I don't completely rule it out.

The Valg "devoured life" and "target magic-wielders, feeding off the power in their blood." Which is a lot like what the Daglan and Asteri do, feeding off the magic of a land and it's people.

There are differences but.......

The lesser Valg can seize a mortal's body through black rings but "their civilization - a whole damn civilization is split into hierarchies like our own."

"There are many different races of Valg" They are ruled by the princes, who themselves are made of shadow and despair and hatred and and have no bodies to occupy save those that they infiltrate. There aren't many princes"

To me the above line would account for any differences across the series as there are many different races of Valg.

Also, "And their princes want to come to our world very badly. So the king uses collars. Black Wyrdstone collars."

In TOG, we know the Valg use Black Collars / Rings in order to control those they wish to inhabit.

In ACOTAR, we know that Enalius died defending one of the paths that led to the Illyrian's sacred stone (if I'm reading this correctly), the monolith at the top of Ramiel which is made of black stone.

Maybe that monolith is a portal to other worlds and that's why they were trying to prevent the enemy (Daglan) from reaching it. Or maybe they had realized that from black stone, the Daglan could create things that could control the fae or use it control the fae.

We do know that the Valg bled black and were afraid of flame and a healers light.

We're also told:

"With the way the Adarlanian king compels them, cutting off their heads to sever the collar might do the trick"

In SF, Lanthys was supposed to be deathless, that nothing can kill him. But Nesta beheads him ("cutting off their heads might do the trick") and he bleeds black.

Nesta notes how he was forced to give up his mist after Cassian's dagger struck him (remember that above we're told Valg are shadows and despair and hatred).

Also, we're told that Lanthy's wants to rebuild what "we" were before the golden legions of the fae cast off "their chains" (is this referencing chains / collars / rings of black stone?) and overthrew "us".

So I do think Lanthy's was a Daglan and I think because of the black blood, being nearly unkillable and references to his mist, it's possible that Daglan are a race of Valg.

The Asteri fear a thunderbirds power which is electricity that manifests as a "white light", the Valg fear fire a healers light "the blinding white light that erupted from her, searing into Erawan".

They're not exactly the same but again, different races are a possibility and different powers in different worlds and we know that there were still other Valg lurking around in the cosmos at the end of TOG, Aelin and Co. only managed to rid themselves of the ones in their world. They did make for a good "villain" so it wouldn't be a bad thing if SJM continued the storyline in her other two series, realizing that they still are the most massive threat plaguing all the universe.

I finished reading A Court of Silver Flames a few days ago and now I'm in this weird state because I want to start reading the Crescent City series (I have the first two books on hand already) but I also want to wait so I can continue to mentally process the ACOTAR series and prep my mind for a whole new cast of characters to get to know 🙃

I've started reading the Crescent City series by Sarah J Mass. Sadly no canon incest, but the MFC has a half-brother that struck me as shippy. She's angry at him, is avoiding him due to an insult he gave her during a fight in her teens. But they were best friends before that and it's clear he's highly protective of her. He still deeply cares for her, and she calls him "possessive and aggressive ahole" (a terms she uses for a lot of men, and is listed as one of the reasons she shouldn't date the men she finds attractive... she keeps saying she doesn't like those qualities and yet uses those terms to describe her love interests as well.) He shows up whenever she's in trouble and glares at men who show interest in her, and they usually respond as if he's a rival for her attentions/affections. Also, their dad is a massively horrible person (whom they both hate) of high status, and refuses to acknowledge she's his daughte. Then means her and Ruhn (her brother) often refer to each other as cousins and since their dad is an only child, it has been assumed that they are distant cousins who are sleeping together by at least one person. Even Ruhn's insistence that "she's family" wasn't enough to deter the notion that since he dropped everything and came running when she was in trouble, they must be together. Idk how shippy it'll remain, but I wasn't looking for any kind of ship in the series and they jumped out to me.

(In another series of the author, the MC's cousin and her are pressured to marry. Neither want to because they each have their own perspective love interests and say they see each other as siblings, but they do consider that fact that politically they might need to marry to cement her claim to her thrown.)

The half-siblings sound really shippy, especially with someone thinking they are together. I hope they reconcile!

I just wanna say, to this day, I still feel bamboozled by SJM.

I went into ACOTAR thinking it was just a trilogy with a cute lil novella following it. That’s it. I just wanted some fantasy romance after years of struggling through a reading slump and suddenly having a lot of free time because of the pandemic.

But then the Book of Breathings appeared in Jesiba’s library and I was sucked into Crescent City. And then there were theories that TOG was also connected (the eight point star across all series???) to Crescent City because it was already connected to ACOTAR (Aelin falling through a world that had a couple that sounded an awful lot like Rhys and Feyre???)

And now here I am, reading The Assassin’s Blade as the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series, planning to reread ACOTAR after I’m done with TOG so I can better appreciate the third installment of Crescent City, House of Flame and Shadow.

I feel so bamboozled.

You two wouldn't be an unlikely couple - Fenrys definitely has a gentle side, he just hides his vulnerability with jokes. And you'd see right through it.

𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚/𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓

Light.

Not the same as fire, but similar to that of sunshine or a star; when your power is at full strength, you glow (can glow so bright it incinerates anyone you want around you). Your eyes can turn white when using your power, as well as defying gravity.

Your skin always looks like you're wearing glitter or some type of shimmer, but you were born that way.

𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒔

When the mate bond snapped into place, he was on emissary duty. You being a princess of a royal who had came to Aelin's aid. Fenrys was sent to give personal thanks on Queen Aelin's behalf.

It happened as soon as you laid eyes on each other; Fenrys' nostrils flaring, eyes widening and eyebrows lifting. You were the first person he shook hands with, his eyes boring into your own. It felt like something had filled inside of you; a bone, or an emotion you didn't know had been in a state of dismay. Now it was ... healed. And you felt elated.

Without a doubt he would shift into his wolf form and beckon you to frolic in a goddamn field. His wolfy tongue hanging out of his mouth, bouncing up and down with his head turned to look behind you.

Fenrys' pet names for you are: "starlight" (obviously inspired by your powers but also because you're his guiding star admist the darkness), "my princess," or alternatively just "princess" and "sunshine."

Fenrys is always over the top whenever you hurt yourself/are hurt. Even if it's just a papercut, he's rushing around trying to find something to cover it. Giving it a kiss better (always gives your covered 'wound' a kiss).

His mouth was literally agape when he first saw your powers. Wide-eyed, shocked, amazed, in love. Thought (and continue to thinks) you're the most beautiful thing in the world. Too precious.

When he first introduced you to Aelin, he was he like "look it. look at my mate. perfect. just perfect. i get to keep :')"

Squeezes your cheeks, kisses your palms, scratches your scalp, hugs you from behind, wants to pick you up all the time but you bat his hands away because he's still trying to when others are around!

Takes him a long time to open up about his brother and his past. You'd might even ask Aelin about it and she would only tell you some things but ultimately it would be up to Fenrys.

Before you, when he'd have nightmares he would change into his wolf form. However, since finding you, his mate, nightmares don't happen so often. But when they do, he subconciously curls into you, letting your light seep into him like a protective bubble.

Growth/Healing.

Whether it's closing wounds or regrowing dying flowers, the love and compassion from your heart made the cauldron decide easily on your ability. Some see you as a medic, as you're able to find the source of the pain if someone is ill. It's a big responsibility and you're constantly needed.

Kept his sarcastic wall up with you even after he found out you were mates. It wasn't until a month later, when you held your hand so gently to his face that he crumbled under your touch. You told him he did not need to keep up the charade with you.

Not only do your powers heal, but you know a lot about herbs and ointments as well. Your family (who have lived in the Dawn Court for generations) are well-known for their healing. Even Thesan, the High Lord, bestowed a title to your family.

This title meant your family held influence. Not a lot, but enough that respect was given wherever you went. And that's how you met Lucien - Rhysand had asked if one of your family members (which ended up being you) would come and teach Feyre how to heal.

Since Lucien often visited the Night Court, it was no coincidence that you bumped into each other. Literally. Which is ironic since you both possess fae abilities - but your minds were so focused on what lay ahead in the Night Court.

Helping you up, it wasn't until your hands touched, then eyes met that the mating bond snapped into place. Like a tight tether around your very soul, it became hard to breathe when he let go of your hand.

Lucien told Feyre (his main reason in being there) and she gave him pretend orders so that he had to stay.

Lucien is constantly scared that something is going to happen to you. The trauma from his father and what he did to his former lover still hangs over his head like an axe waiting to fall.

Not a lot of people know this, but Lucien has a lot of anxiety. He keeps it hidden but because of the bond (and the fact that you both accepted the bond) you can feel what he feels. And one of your best traits is being able to calm unnerved beings.

Many, many forehead touches. Even though Lucien is quite taller than you, he leans down so he can kiss your nose and touch your forehead with his.

Would definitely move to the Dawn Court to be with you and your family if that's what you wished.

Your first kiss with Ruhn was at night, in the water. Droplets ran down his tanned face, his hair pushed back, lips wet. You hadn't thought you would ever find your mate. Let alone a Prince. A rebel prince who was covered in tattoos, looked scary but had a goddamn heart of gold.

Physical affection is a big factor in your relationship. Ruhn yearns for it. For many years he was touch-starved. Aching for a kind hand, a soft hug; someone he knew would never hurt him.

And having you now, he would endure everything all over again. Knowing he would have you.

He's very good at braiding hair; used to braid Bryce's when she was a little girl. He let her paint his nails and colour in his tattoos. He loved being a big brother.

I finished my third reread of ACOSF last night.

I also read ToG twice, and CC twice. I have read thirty five SJM books in the last two months 😂

That ends today! Libby finally gave me From Blood And Ash, so, we’ll see how that series is! But let’s be honest... gonna miss the Maas-niverse so much 😭 next January can’t come soon enough!

Bryce and the Autumn Court

Something I’m most excited for is for Bryce to interact with the Autumn Court.
