Man, today was not the fucking day.
Not only did she get a knee to the nose, but that knee belonged to no one other than Vi, of all people.
At least she won. That was the only redemption Sevika repeated to herself as she hobbled back to your apartment, blood annoyingly pouring out both nostrils.
Her whole body ached, fooling her weary bones that her weight had doubled in amount when in reality she was just fucking tired. She could only imagine how you'd react to her. With a groan she dug for her key and jammed it into the door knob. On the inside, you jolted in your seat at the sound, abandoning your dinner to greet her at the door. She stumbled through the second you touched the wood.
"Hey-Oh my god, are you-,"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm good."
Mid-greeting was when your eyes beelined straight for her bloody nose and bruised jawline. The familiar dread of concern pooled into your stomach while you watched her back recede into the kitchen. The feeling sunk more when you caught the way she staggered her steps, borderline limping.
"What's for dinner? I'm starvin."
You gestured to the widespread pan on the stove. "Um. I made that casserole you really like."
She moved to grab a plate from the cabinet. "Huh. Thinking about me, were you?"
You tilted your gaze downwards. "..Was just in the mood for it."
While she scooped some food onto her plate, a pinch in between your eyebrows creased when the deep bruises marked onto her forearm came to light. The more you watched her the more injuries popped out at you.
You frowned.
"Um, Vika? Can we do something about the..." You pointed at your nose. "The whole, bloody nose situation..?"
She paused to turn to you. "No, there's no need. It's stopped now."
"..But it must hurt, right? It looks pretty bad."
You were well aware of her strength, but that didn't mean she wasn't human. No matter how hard she hid it on the outside, those beatings must've been bothersome.
"Babe, I'm telling you. I'm fine. I know how much you worry but I promise I'm fine."
You couldn't squeeze in another word as she stepped away to find her chair at the table. Gulping down a length sip from her cup, she began digging into her meal, not wasting any more time to fulfill her hunger. Meekly settling into the chair across from her, you fiddled with your hands in your lap, watching her eat with a tiny frown.
"..Can I at least ask what happened?"
Sevika scoffed mid-bite. "Vi being a bitch. When is she not."
Dammit. It was as if every other day the two were in the mood to beat the shit out of the other. You wished they'd stop, but asking that of them almost seemed impossible.
"At least I won. That bitch can't fight for shit. Can't stand her."
You nodded with a faint hum. Sevika glanced up at you after scooping up another bite only to pause, noting the way you appeared distant. Your eyes didn't quite meet hers, instead darting from side to side on the table top.
She tilted up her chin in a quick nod.
"What's up with that look? What are you thinking about?"
You blinked, finally making eye contact. "What?"
Her head tilted to the side. "You were staring off. Did you hear anything I just said..?"
"No, I did. I was just thinking..is all."
Sevika's eyelids lowered. "Thinking about what."
It sounded more like a statement than a question. You shrugged your shoulders, averting your gaze from hers once more. The woman in front of you rolled her eyes jokingly.
"Babe, come on."
Your lips slightly grinned with another shrug. "I dunno, just about..."
The sentence trailed off when you locked onto her bruised arms, your smile falling downwards. Sevika grimaced when she realized what you were looking at, shaking her head and turning to the side.
"You know I'm not a child right."
You peered up at her again. "..Huh?"
"I'm not a fucking child. I can handle myself, and I know I look like shit, but you don't need to point it out all the fucking time."
Her voice transitioned into iron, prickling at your nerves and flaring up the sensation in your stomach.
"I didn't say you looked like shi-,"
"But you're thinking it, aren't you. I can see it."
The nails of your fingers picked more and more hangnails into your skin. "No, I'm-I'm not thinking that at all."
The muscles in her face scrunched up into a stone glare, her eyes flitting up and down your body. Picking up her plate she rose from the table and moved to the sink.
"Well, thanks for the fucking casserole. Lost my appetite the second you started looking at me like that."
Your vision wavered from oncoming tears, staring at her from your chair. Maybe the fight with Vi was worse than normal, and still had some frustrations to take out. But as the intrusive thoughts regarding her and your relationship stabbed a hole into your chest, threatening your breathing patterns to shorten.
After rinsing off her plate and silverware, she glanced up at you and groaned at the streams on your cheeks.
"Oh, stop crying. Just stop. That shit's so annoying."
Enough was enough. You didn't want to deal with this today. Slamming your hands on the table, you rose on your feet and grabbed your bag. Sevika threw up her arms and scoffed.
"Now what. You're gonna leave? Go right the fuck ahead!"
You ignored her as you rushed over to the front door, pulling out your keys to lock it behind you.
"Go ahead and just fucking leave! I don't give a shit what you do!"
Your movements froze at her yell. She just yelled at you. Sevika yelled at you.
The veins in your throat tensed as you swallowed, another tear dripping down your face. Turning around on your heel, you faced her straight on, fighting with all your might to not let anxiety take over your lungs.
Sevika barely faltered at your expression. She didn't like the sweat on your forehead, tear stains on your cheeks, chest pumping up and down quickly.. It didn't take long for the realization of the fact that she was the cause of that to swoop in.
You inhaled a deep breath and wiped away your cheeks.
"Do not raise your fucking voice at me."
It was quiet, but delivered the point. Sevika's creases of anger disappeared instantly, her mouth gaping open at the reality of her actions. You continued, voice trembling and broken.
"I don't want to hear you of all people..to speak to me like this. I can't, I don't want to deal with that. I-I was just worried, that's all."
It was if her body was deflating, slowly shrinking in on itself as she kept staring at you.
"...I'll be at a friend's house. But please, for now, leave me alone. I need to think."
The haunting sound of the door locking after you would torture her forever. Running a frustrated hand through her hair she cursed and yelled, stomping back to the now unshared bedroom to sit on the bed, holding her forehead on the palms of her hands.
While her head dangled in her grasp, a droplet of red liquid fell from her nostril onto the floor beside her shoe.
It hadn't stopped.
--
You didn’t come home for a few more days. Sevika hadn’t been able to focus on much since.
Your tear-stained face and wavering words filled her mind from inside out, taunting her throughout the day. Thoughts from the ugly part of her brain screamed at her that you wanted to leave her for good and never return to her, and as much as fought them off, it’d began to settle in more and more.
..So when she heard the familiar unlocking of the door from where she was in the kitchen, a rush of relief and joy waved off her intrusive thoughts as she moved to the door.
When you slowly entered the house, you frowned at her appearance, more specifically, the way she seemed so..tired.
Dark circles hollowed under her eyes, bruises still there yet faint, wrinkled eyebrows...But you had to admit, you didn’t look too bright yourself.
Inhaling and exhaling, letting the door close for you, you stared at her for a moment, not finding the will to speak just yet. Sevika parted her lips, her head barely shaking.
“...I miss you.”
Fuck.
Your face contorted with emotion, your teeth biting down on your lip to withhold any sobs. Taking a step forward, you lifted your arms, gesturing for a hug to which she happily listened. Scooping you up into her embrace, she dug her face into your neck and lifted you off the ground. She’d damn herself before ever letting her anger get in the way of you two again. She never wanted to be apart from you, and she’d kill anyone who tried to separate you.
“..I missed you, too.”
Your faint whisper calmed her nerves and grounded her back to earth. When she settled you back on your feet, she took a moment to observe your features, caressing the side of your face.
You raised your own hand to take her cheek, wiping at her eyes and tucking a hair behind her ear. Her words still stung, but you knew she didn’t mean them, and it was through these affections that her guilt spoke more than any words she could ever speak.
In the midst of your admirations, you grimaced at the sight of her nose, still blood-stained and dry.
...Can I take care of your nose, now?”
Sevika wholeheartedly laughed. Oh, she missed you so much.

You didn't know where you went wrong.
What bump in the road you wreaked to lead to this demise. All sense of worth, love, and respect you harbored towards yourself filtered out the window the second he swatted you away as if you were a mere fly, not his lover he slept beside each night.
The painful gnawing bubbles in your stomach pushed the threat of bile as you stared at him with hot tears in your eyes, lips resting in a pout and body littered in trembles.
You were tired of this. Tired of all the yelling, all the damage, all the insults thrown your way. In the bottom of it all, you were just trying to show your love.
Some say it's dangerous to fall in love young. Others say it's dumb to be in love in the midst of a war. Your older relatives laughed when you mentioned your recent plans of moving in with Armin, stating it was far too early in your relationship for that. That couples' true colors reveal themselves upon living together too early in their affairs. While on the other side, your comrades uttered teasings under their breaths about you two living in a damned relationship, shadowed by his curse of limited life and threat of death.
You and Armin looked past the condescending jokes. Despite the war and tragedies, you were just happy to be able to wake up to each other at last. Having shared mutual feelings since the early years of military life, your relationship was ready to soar to the next intimate level of domestic life. Unfortunately for you two though, living a simple life as a soldier can only bring so much.
Armin tended to lash out whenever his stress tipped over. He knew he had to release it before that happened, that he was working on it with his therapist once a week. You tried to give him the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, but as it became more consistent, you wondered if you had any input to his complexity.
Were you one of the reasons for his overwhelming anger? Did he come to despise living with you? Had you not given him enough?
Self ridden reassurance can only take you so far. With Armin not giving you any, it was hard to put a smile on your face and claim you weren't the problem. Because there was no way Armin was, he was your beloved. Your partner. You loved him so much, you never wanted to think ill of him.
But maybe that was the problem.
Armin pulled and twisted at his blonde tresses in front of you, pacing violently around the kitchen. All you could do was watch and silently weep, wondering what monsters lured in his mind to take control of his actions and spill these lashings towards you.
"[First] I..." He took a deep breath. "Please, just-just go away.."
He was shutting you out again. When his blue eyes flitted to yours, you shook your head and bit your lip. He groaned and slammed his hand onto the nearest tabletop. You finally found the courage to speak up.
"Armin, please. I'm here, talk to me."
"No, you don't fucking get it! I...I-I can't deal with this. I can't deal with you right now."
A pang. You sniffled and swiped a hair behind your ear. His uneven breathing patterns were the only noise in the room as he grounded himself with the table beside him, both palms widespread on the wood.
"...I can't do this. I can't do this, [First] I need you to leave, please."
"Is it something I'm doing?"
Armin froze. You stared right back at him, brows pushed together as you studied him. He faintly shook his head.
"..No, hon this isn't about us at all. I'm just really, really overwhelmed right now."
"Yes, but am I putting in any input to that? Is our relationship a contribute to your stress..?"
Armin clenched his eyes shut and turned away from you. "[First] please!"
A sob left your mouth. "I'm just trying to help you. I love you, Armin, and I want to help-,"
"You really want to help?!" His eyes met yours again, wide and wild with thousands of emotions.
"Yes! That's what I've been trying to tell you!"
He moved to stand right in front of you, chests barely grazing each other and his heavy breaths puffing over your skin. The muscles under his brows twitched as he observed your tears and frantic pleas, before he huffed an exhale through his nostrils. For a split second you swore you detected shame in his ocean colored irises, but before you could look any further he parted his lips.
"....Then give me some time to think.. For now, just fucking leave me alone."
Another sharp pang, impaling your heart and shattering it into pieces. Without another glance your way, he stomped out the room and threw open the front door, not caring about the way it slammed back into the house. The sound echoed throughout the empty rooms, emphasizing the brutal reminder you were now the sole resident.
Your legs couldn't hold you up anymore. Crumbling to the ground, you wept harshly into your hands, crying out sobs and yells until your throat grew sore. You wondered where in the loving relationship you shared with Armin did it become so south, did it steer off the right path into a decent of insanity. You missed the warmth and security Armin used to give you. The whispers of sweet nothings he voiced inside your ear while holding you close.
A few years ago, when the two of you were still youthful, naive teenagers, Armin would've never imagined speaking to you the way he did mere seconds ago. He hated himself even more for it, hating the cold guilt and sobs it rung up. One of these days he'd make it up to you, that is, if you were still willing to love him after those harsh unforgiving words.
He can only hope the love you held for him was strong enough to fight off those monsters in his brain that reminded him everyday how it should've been Erwin instead of him. That told him how worthless he was, and how undeserving he was of your affections.
As much as he could Armin fended them off, but recently they'd been tipping him over the edge at every small inconvenience. All you did was speak to him and he was gone. What did that mean for your relationship..? He refused to entertain those intrusive images. The thought of you no longer being in his life like this frightened his every nerve. He cursed himself as a tear tickled his skin, promising himself to show you his apologies tonight when he returned.
When your hollowed out sobs finally came to an end, you sat up and stared at the closed door, silently wishing for him to come home. But as the echoes of his last words rang in your brain, you found yourself wishing for him to stay away for just a bit longer.
Some say it's dangerous to fall in love young. You used to mock that ideology, claiming it to be incorrect on all levels. But now, as you cleaned your face with a wet towel, you were beginning to believe it.

Sour was the taste left on the budded texture inside your mouth.
Or, maybe it was vile.
Bread remnants? Dry spit? Now you can't remember.
Perched across the wood, adjacent to another soldier who's name you didn't catch, was an older man in the Survey Corps..
..and he was smiling. At you.
His name served no rank or leadership, just a plain veteran soldier in the regiment. Technically, he laid in the same ranks as you, only difference being the distance between ages.
His presence was...repulsive. Crumbs of bread and vegetables jammed his teeth, and his odor reeked of sweat and musk. You could pick up on the stench from all the way over the wide-set table, and each time his face spun your way your nostrils winced.
And for some reason, he wouldn't stop grinning at you. With Jean to your right and Sasha to your left, your attempts of dissembling his lurking with conversation only served you little, as you could still feel his gawking through the corner of your eye.
"Hey, [First], didn't you say Armin was coming? Where is he?"
Jean inquired after gulping down his cup. You blinked out of your daze, glancing up at the cadet with a small grin.
"Oh, yeah, he was but he wanted to finish this book...He's in his room, I bet."
"Armin? The little lad with the weird haircut? Why are you concerned about him, [Last]?"
Jean didn't miss the way your body curled in on itself the moment the man spoke a word. Hesitantly, you met his leering stare with a nervous chuckle.
"Um, because he's my friend..?"
"Just friends? I thought you two were-,"
Your elbow jammed into Sasha's ribs before she could punctuate her statement. The veteran's eyebrow quirked.
"More than friends, then? Sorry if I'm intruding but, isn't he a little..." His expression scrunched up. "Out of your taste..?"
The skin between your brows pulled together. "I'm sorry..?"
"Well, it's just that, he's a bit short and not as well developed. Surely you know better than to run off with a boy like him, right?"
Okay, now it was time to evade. Jean and Sasha bore their own glares of distaste towards the soldier, but you abruptly rose from your seat, tray in hand.
"It's really none of your business, sir. Have a nice night."
Stepping out of the bench, you shook your head with a deep frown while trudging over to the tray drop off. The nerve of some people. Who was he to comment on your love life, especially on the person you were currently seeing? As if he knows any better about who Armin was-
"Pardon me, [Last], but I don't appreciate being brushed off as rudely as you did a second ago. As your senior, I expect more from you. More respect."
Just as you whirled around to exit, your nose barely grazed the satin fabric of his dress shirt, his body looming way too close for comfort. The proximity caused you to gulp, eyes slowly trailing up to his sneer.
"All I did was politely make a suggestion. No need for the disrespect. Surely you understand that, right?"
All rebuttals fluttered away into the swirls of your nerves. Your mouth quivered as it hung open, vocal cords refusing to respond back. His grin stretched at your panic, his hand raising to stroke your hair. Before the tips of his fingers could touch your tresses, Jean intervened with a push to your shoulder, his body taking your place.
"I suggest you back off before things get messier."
Oh the relief was exhilarating. The gears of your lungs kicked back into motion as you sighed through your nose, a hand unconsciously coming up to your chest to calm your rapid heartbeat.
The veteran clicked his tongue to his teeth in annoyance as he sauntered off, but not before sparing you one last glance. Jean turned to you with a relaxed grin.
"Glad I made it in time."
You nodded with a breathy scoff, your eyes darting all around the room.
"I...I'm gonna go see Armin."
Jean patted your shoulder with a heavy hand. "Good idea."
Finally making eye contact you thanked him with another nod, breaking away from him to head for the exit.
--
Armin jolted the second your fist made contact with the wood of his door, his narrowed concentration broken as his eyes peeled away from book pages to his room entrance.
"W-Who is it?"
"..It's me. Um. Can I come in...?"
The tightness in his face faded as he beamed, a faint pinkness rising to his cheeks. Marking his place with a bookmark, he smoothed down his shirt while rising from his bed. Wrapping his hand around the doorknob, he leisurely pulled it open to meet you with a warm smile, only for it to drop at the sight of your anxious form.
"Woah, are you alright..?"
Stepping aside for you to enter, his nerves heightened, his thoughts springing out different scenarios of what events you'd just experienced.
"Here, sit."
Guiding you to his bed, the blonde sat himself down beside you, watching you try to take up as little space as possible. He refrained any physical contact in case it'd trigger more anxieties, so he waited for you to speak, his hands nervously moving up and down his thighs.
Your hands interlocked themselves together and fiddled in your lap, the skin of your lips going in between your teeth. Your leg bounced as you stared straight forward, as if you were alone in your own room instead of his.
"[First]..? What happened? Who did this?"
You finally turned to look at him, but only for a mere second, as your gaze fell down to the mattress.
"I, uh..I.."
The image of you trembling like this broke his heart. He couldn't hold back anymore as he raised an arm to embrace your waist, softly pulling you closer towards him. His chest tightened when your head rolled to lay on his shoulder, your legs scooting closer to rest beside his.
"I was at dinner...with Jean and Sasha."
You started, pausing to prick the skin of your cuticles.
"This guy, I don't even know his name. He sat across from us, and I noticed he was kind of...weird. He was giving me these really creepy looks and smiling...I don't know."
Armin stiffened up, his blonde brows furrowing. Still, he remained quiet.
"At some point, Jean asked where you were, and I said you were in here reading. And then this guy just started making these comments, about you, about our relationship.. I finally... stood up to leave and told him it was none of his business, but then he fucking cornered me and went on about respect and all that bullshit. Saying he was my fucking senior! Like what the fuck!"
Your voice wavered in and out as the scene created heat behind your eyes. Armin gasped as your hands cupped your face, a couple muffled sniffles escaping through the gaps of your fingers.
His free hand brought your knees to lay over his thighs before taking your other side, your body now turned towards him. His fingers traced patterns into your back while his cheek leaned against the top of your head.
"..And then Jean came to tell him off. Which, I was, very relieved by.. If he hadn't shown up...that fucking creep was about to try something. I could see it in his eyes. God, he was so..!"
"Shh. Shh."
Uncovering your face, your arms embraced his middle to bring him impossibly close. If there was any space left between you before, it was diminished now by your embrace, your need to feel his comfort and security.
"Hey.."
Moving away just barely, Armin caressed the tender skin of your cheeks, adjusting your face to meet his eyes. The beautiful pools of cerulean you loved so much.
"I'm sorry that happened to you, but I'm so, so proud of you for evading the situation. You trusted your gut, and left when he was making you uncomfortable. It takes a lot to leave a situation like that."
You sniffled as more tears filled up your eye ducts.
"But...if Jean hadn't showed up the second time, he would've..."
"You did the best you could in the situation, lovey. No point in thinking what could've happened, because what's important is you got out of there. He didn't get the upper hand on you. Not one bit."
A wobbly grin broke out on your lips.
"I'm so proud of you."
Armin spoke again while pulling you in for another hug, one hand holding the back of your head to stroke your hair. You clung onto him as another sob left you, your face hiding in the fabric of his shirt.
"I'll have a word with the Captain tomorrow. I'll take care of it, so you don't have to worry about that creep again. Okay?"
You nodded into him, arms tightening around his torso. His eyelids fluttered shut as he nestled more into your warmth, not finding anywhere else he'd rather be.
The next evening you were pleasantly surprised when you approached the usual table and the vacant spot across the table greeted you. Turning your head side to side to search the mess hall, the face of that creep was nowhere to be found.
Sitting next to Armin, who beamed at you while removing his hand from the saved spot, you gave him a shy grin. The blonde didn't say a word more about the uncomfortable interaction, or what exactly he said to the Captain, but as a pair of veterans waltzed by your table...
"Did you hear about what happened to Nicolas today? Caught the end of it, but apparently the Captain gave him a rough beating."
"Not just that! The poor sod was terminated from the regiment! He's apparently leaving for his hometown after he recovers in the infirmary."
"Wow! Wonder what happened that got him so screwed up."
You almost spat out your drink. Glancing at Armin, his smile only grew as he sipped his cup.

This night was supposed to be a good one.
Technically it still could be, but your mood had been obliterated with a knife the second you stepped inside The Last Drop.
Work had been annoying, your knees ached from long use, and overall you were just tired. But earlier in the week you'd promised to meet up with Sevika here tonight, and you didn't want to miss out on that opportunity. The woman stirred a rhythm of flutters inside your stomach like no one ever had before, so you were more or less excited to see her. Your relationship had been official for only a small moment in time, and though it remained secretive, you appreciated everything about it.
Though when you made your way inside the bar, you couldn't spot her distinctive form amongst the crowd. Perhaps she hadn't made it here yet. No matter. There was always room for extra drinks.
Plopping down at the bar counter, you grinned at Thieram as you tapped the wood. Having been a regular, he already got to work on your drink the second you perched yourself on the stool. In just a few seconds the liquified de-stressor had made its home in your palms, the glass clinking with each other as you consumed the substance.
Your eyes continued to survey the room from left to right in search for the woman, and you frowned when you still couldn't find her. Thieram paused at your silence, cocking his head to the side.
"Waiting for someone?"
Your tongue clicked itself on your teeth. "Yeah, I was supposed to meet Vika here tonight but I don't see her."
Twirling around on the chair, you faced him.
"Have you seen her at all tonight?"
He shrugged and shook his head. "Nope."
With a furrow in your brows, you placed your cup down to mark your seat while you hopped off the stool to further your search. Occasional swaying bodies bumped against your shoulders as you pushed through the heavy crowd. You didn't have a specific destination in mind, but you knew Sevika liked to gather herself in the corner and play poker with drunkards.
You hoped that's where she'd be, instead of listening to the voiced anxieties inside your head telling you she stood you up.
Finally breaking away from the sweaty mosh, you stumbled right into her usual spot, straightening your spine with a sigh. Though your relief sucked itself back into your body at the picture you were greeted with.
"Hey...Let's go somewhere a bit more private, yeah?"
You'd heard many stories of this particular woman with doe like eyes and perfectly styled hair currently batting her eyelashes up at your girlfriend, and the heart tattoo inked onto her right shoulder confirmed her identity. There was no mistake who she was. You couldn't tear your irises away from her red polished nails that traced Sevika's collarbone or the nonchalant glance she flitted your way.
This woman had been Sevika's previous partner.
All of a sudden your body weight doubled over your knees, threatening to break the bones and bring you down to the floor. You wanted to throw up, scream and run as fast as you can all at once. It was excruciatingly overwhelming, yet all you could do was stand there frozen.
Sevika's coy grin faded from her lips the second her grey eyes locked onto yours. It was her expression, her dead pan, shocked face that knocked your vocal cords to work.
"What the fuck?"
She briefly panicked, holding out a widespread palm in your direction.
"Babe...This is not what you think it is-,"
"Then what the fuck is it?"
Sevika pried the other woman off her and rose up to her feet, heavy boots stomping on the floor in a hurry as she neared you. When she attempted to caress your cheek you pushed her away.
"No don't fucking touch me. I'm leaving."
"Babe, come on."
The pounding bass of the music muffled itself in your ears, your senses only singling out the image of her coddling another woman. Maybe it was the extra stress from today, but as you rushed out the bar, hot tears pricked your vision and knocked the neon lights into blurry dots, the dancing crowd falling into slow motion. Stumbling out the front doors your weeps broke out your chest as you treaded down the dim streets.
Sevika burst through the entrance not far after you, her head whipping back and forth to search for you. She gasped when she found your retreating figure down an alley and broke into a sprint.
"[First]!"
Oh god. With a groan, you pulled your hood up over your face, wiping your snot and tears away with a sleeve.
"[First]...please."
"Go away, Vika."
Sevika passed a hand through her choppy hair. "Look, I swear that was a misunderstanding. She came in and she'd been drinking and-,"
"Vika. Please, just fucking leave me alone."
You stopped your hurried steps to peer up at her. She pulled her brows closer together and softly shook her head at your wet eyes, the streetlights reflecting off the water.
"No. Stop crying, and let's talk it out. I'm not letting you walk away from me like this."
You groaned, fingers coming up to tug at your roots and chin averting to the concrete beneath your shoes.
"Oh my goddd. I need to think. I saw what I saw and-and,"
"Which is why I want to talk about it because it was a fucking misunderstanding!"
You whipped up to face her. "How the fuck was it one? You were smiling, you were eating that shit up! What the fuck?!"
Sevika growled at the tone of your voice and leaned her body down to hover over your face.
"Do not raise your fucking voice at me. You know better than to shout at me. That is not what we're gonna do."
You matched her glare with your own, a tear falling out your right eye to tickle the skin of your cheek. Sevika puffed a sigh through her nostrils as she returned to her normal posture.
"Do you trust me at all, [First]?"
That question kicked the fire out of your eyes. With your expression softening, you inhaled and shut your eyes. When you opened, you didn't find the strength to face her directly as you responded.
"..Yes."
"Then why won't you listen to me?"
You faltered for a moment. Honestly, you were scared. You were fearful of the possibility of her finding someone better, or that she missed her ex lover and wanted to get rid of you. She's had many partners before you, and with the relationship you two had being a bit quiet, you figured maybe it was just your insecurities taking charge right now. But instead of voicing your concerns, all you did was shrug.
"What happened to us, baby? You know I'd never cheat on you, especially with that woman. She was drunk, and if it looked like I was enjoying her, I can tell you right now that I wasn't. Can you trust me on that?"
Can you? Can you trust her?
You carefully raised your head to meet her gaze, eye ducts still covered in tears and red irritation. Staring at her like this, her emotions laid out in front of you, you debated with yourself internally.
But after a few minutes, you decided yes. You would trust her.

With a twist of the metal knob, the gas flame pumped up under the kettle nestled on top, the tea inside beginning to brew.
You stared at the flame with a hum, pulling out your phone to set up the timer and turning it on.
The fireplace crackled from the burning wood, filtering raw warmth inside your living room and slowly creeping towards the kitchen. A cold front had swept in overnight, coating the city in an embellishment of brisk air.
..And good thing you love the cold. Ugh. You shivered and pulled your jacket tighter over your shoulders. At least Armin would be home soon.
After long minutes of brewing, the familiar shrill scream from the kettle interrupted the peaceful silence, followed by the obnoxious beeping from your phone alarm.
Honestly, you don't know why you set it. Maybe it made you feel more secure about correct timing.
Removing the kettle with an oven mitt, you set it aside to cool before pulling out two delicate cups, ready to be poured into. You thought it'd be a nice sight to come home to, especially after being in the harsh cold.
A smile blossomed on your face when the clangs of keys turning in the keyhole broke the air, announcing Armin was home before he even stepped inside. The door popped open to reveal him bundled in winter wear, a sigh escaping him as he peeled off his layers.
"Hi, hon. Do you need help with that?"
Even though he didn't give you a response, you stepped forward and took hold of his sleeves, carefully pulling back the fabric from his body. But you frowned when he whipped his arm away from you, finishing what you started.
"No." He furrowed a brow. "Um, I can do it."
You blinked a few times. "..Okay. There's tea on the stove if you want some. I just made it."
He nodded without a word, stepping into the kitchen while tugging off his gloves. You moved to pour his glass when you noticed he didn't wait around, already disappearing into your shared bedroom.
He seemed...distant today. Though, it didn't surprise you too much. He'd been acting like this more frequently. You passed it off as work overload, but he never spoke to you about it. You trusted he'd come to you if he wanted to, but it still bothered you.
Going ahead and making your cup of tea, you were about to make his cup when his footsteps entered the room again. You gave him a brief smile before pouring the glass, picking it up and handing it to him.
"Here you go."
He mumbled a 'thanks' before taking a sip. You reached for your own drink and began gulping it down, relishing in the heat the liquid gave as you swallowed. Armin remained quiet, staring off in thought as he drank, leaning his lower back on the sink in front of you.
You sighed. "What's up?"
He shook his head. "Nothing."
"Doesn't seem like nothing to me."
Again, another dismiss from him. "I'm fine, [First]."
You didn't like his demeanor. His refusal to make eye contact, the fingers anxiously drumming the cup, the faint sway in his leg. Something was wrong.
"Are you sure? Because..."
He bit his lip and shut his eyes for a brief moment, as if fighting back a rebuttal. Instead, he forced himself look at you, gesturing with his hand.
"Nothing is wrong." With that, he took another swing of his tea and put it on the counter, striding out the kitchen to the living room. You immediately followed.
"You acting like this makes me believe there's something bothering you."
Armin whirled around to face you, his hands emphasizing his words.
"For fucks sake, [First] there's nothing wrong."
Your hands rested on your hips with a raise of your brows. "Well, that makes me think there is."
He held up a hand as if he were to speak, before lowly groaning, slapping his arm on his thigh and continuing towards the den. You didn't follow, instead watching him seat himself on the couch.
"I'm not forcing you to say anything. I just want to let you know that I'm here if you-,"
"If I what? If I need anything? If I need a therapy session to talk about my feelings?"
Armin's attitude grew more and more tense with each breath, making you cross your arms defensively. Why was he acting like this? Your teeth gnawed on the inside of your cheek, unsure of what to say to him.
"...I mean, yeah. If you need someone to listen to you."
Armin turned away from you, softly chuckling to himself. "You're not my fucking mom."
His eyebrow twitched, and the way he too took in the skin of his lips into his teeth like yours made you believe for a slim chance he didn't mean these cruel words. That these were outbursts of stress that he'd been bottling up for who knows how long. Doesn't mean it didn't sting any less.
You scoffed and threw your arms up, the ghost of water forming in your eye-ducts. "Okay. Fuck it. Forget I said anything."
Those words seemed to throw him off into forbidden territory as he stormed off the cushion and trailed after you back towards the kitchen.
"You're just gonna walk away?"
You shook your head and waved your hand, turning to face him.
"I don't know where this came from Armin but all I asked was a question. There's no point in all this fucking bullshit."
"Bullshit? My feelings are bullshit now?"
A groan whirred in your chest with a sniffle, a sleeve coming up to wipe at your face. "I didn't fucking say that."
"Then what the fuck are you insinuating, [First]?"
Another sniffle. "I'm not insinuating anything! I'm just saying you acting like this is-,"
"Is what?! Is fucking what, [First]?! Fucking spit it OUT!"
His voice hollered in a yell, pausing your movements. Any possible retaliation vanished with his uproar, knocking the room into a tense silence. You narrowed your eyes in a glare, pointing a sharp finger at him.
"Do not raise your fucking voice at me."
Armin's intensity faltered, a puff of air leaving his nostrils. Anxiety whirled nausea in your stomach, clawing at your insides as you tried to calm down.
"..Look, I don't want to argue. All I wanted to know was if you were fucking okay. That's all I asked."
You took in a deep, deep breath, cheeks raining with tears.
"I didn't realize...that asking that damn question caused such a rise out of you."
Armin turned away from you for a moment, not wanting to see you cry. Guilt rushed in instantly, knowing that those tears were because of him.
You stared at him in disbelief, weakly suppressing your emotions as broken sobs littered your speech.
. "…You know, we used to talk more, I used to know what was going on in your life... Now I don't know anything. What happened to us?”
Armin sighed at your words, shoulders sagging in defeat.
"What happened, Armin..?"
When you fell quiet, awaiting his response, he stiffly shrugged.
"..I don't know."
Your throat tightened. The realization flooded in and hit you like a bullet, answering all your unanswered inquiries regarding the distance in your relationship. You just simply didn't know him anymore, and according to his shameful expression, he felt the exact same.

There was quite not a place like Zaun.
You like to look at it as like an outstretched alleyway; with every crevice and corner sprouts new opportunities of harm and theft.
Though, it wasn't all bad. You just had to know the right places to go, and the right people to acquaint with. For majority of your young adulthood, there was a great struggle in that aspect. Trouble in finding a place to belong, a sturdy job to support yourself, friends to share drinks with..
But then you met Silco.
Everything felt right with him. He had the power to control his environment, the people around him; even his enemies, who abided to his every command due to fear. The strength and respect he possessed stirred the admiration you had for him, and he relished in that devotion.
Silco adored you, inside and out. He liked that you trusted his every move and breath. He caught a glimpse of your hidden power the day he met you, marking the day he fell deep in love. You were unlike anyone he'd ever spoken to, and though he couldn't gather the beautiful words to describe a creature like you, you were just remarkable in every way.
He loved that about you. He loved you.
It scared the hell out of him how much he felt for you. Sometimes he wondered if you two shared two parts of the same soul. If you were ever in sorrow, or filled with glee, he found himself replicating the same expressions. Silco was not a man to smile, but he could not resist his damn mouth from upturning each time you beamed at him.
Though, what scared him the most, was when you were scared.
When you came into his office one afternoon, sweat leaking out the pores of your skin and a frenzied paranoia in your eyes, a haunting pit of his stomach twisted. The blatant stumble you performed upon entering caught his attention in a millisecond. His eyebrows shot up his forehead in surprise, any previous thoughts regarding plans for Zaun fleeing his brain to make room for concern and worry.
"Darling...? What's happened?"
Your wide-eyed stare drove him up to his feet and over to you in a fluid movement. His calloused hands fell to the tops of your shoulders, his thumb adjusting your chin to his height.
At first, you just breathed.
Taking in long inhales then exhaling out your mouth. Counting to ten in between before restarting. Silco observed you in silence, stealthily sliding his hands up to the side of your neck to rub the skin gently with his thumbs.
Finally glancing up to him, you spoke in a low whisper.
"..I just, overheard some things."
He pulled his brows together. "About what?"
You averted your eye contact again, finding peace with the floorboards. "...Plans."
Plans? His heart thumped louder and louder.
"What plans, my love?"
Nerves gnawed on your stomach like maggots. Though you wouldn't dare have anything to do with this, there was still guilt for speaking of it to him. The last thing you wanted was to fabricate any extra damage or stress to the pile.
But you knew Silco had to know. Especially so, considering the person you'd eavesdropped on found out you'd been listening to the entirety of the conversation.
"Plans to take over Zaun, and...kill you, in the process."
He blinked. Huh. Honestly he anticipated worse. When he didn't respond, you cautiously brought your eyes back up to his, judging his face for any emotion. Was he upset..? Angry? Plotting?
The palm of his hand caressed your cheek.
"Do you know who spoke of this?"
Taking in another inhale, you answered. "Finn."
That rat. He never did like him. Too plastic and full of himself.
Silco let out a smooth chuckle. "What a fool. He won't go far my dear, that I can assure you of."
You half grinned with him, leaning your face affectionately into his hand.
"But something else is bothering you."
A statement, not a question. The fear tickled your anxieties for a moment making you relive another inhale and exhale.
"He uh...He caught me listening."
Silco's face narrowed. Anger.
"And he essentially threatened me, as well. Saying if I got in the way he'd..."
He'll kill him. By god, he was going to kill him.
If he were irrational and sporadic, Silco would've been out that door the second you mentioned the piece of shit dared threaten your lovely name. He would let himself lose it on the man, stabbing and pulling out his eyeballs for whoever gave him the right to just look at you.
But he couldn't do that. Not now, when your fright had begun climbing up to your face.
That man threatened you, and now you were scared.
Silco wasted no time pulling you against him. His slim arms held you tight to his body, and while you snuggled into his embrace, he brought his fingers up to your hair.
"I'll fucking kill him."
You sighed into his shirt. His warmth, his height, everything about him enveloped your being in a sense of security. You didn't care that sooner or later he was going to commit a murder against that Finn. All you could focus on now was his intense love for you, and how good it felt to receive and reciprocate those feelings.
"...[First], listen to me. I'm not going to let anything hurt you. Not now, not ever. Do you understand?"
You nodded with a hum, arms tightening around his torso.
"I'm sorry he scared you. He won't do that anymore, okay? I'm going to take care of it."
Stepping away to hold your face once more, he bent down to give you a haste kiss, lingering his lips on yours for a few moments before pulling away.
"Now. You wait here, and I will be back in a bit. If Jinx comes around, tell her the same thing. She'll listen to you."
You furrowed a brow. "Okay, but, what are you-,"
He interrupted your words with another swift peck. "Nothing to fret over."
Gently moving you away from the entrance, he bid another farewell and latched the door shut. As soon as his boots connected with the floor outside the doorway the emphasized anger and hatred he'd suppressed raged back, knocking his vision red.
His fists clenched underneath themselves. The bridge of his hooked nose scrunched in disgust, skin just barely twitching.
Oh, he was going to raise Hell.

It's almost like a slow game the mind plays on you.
It takes its time, developing leisurely on your body until it's all you can think about, all you can feel and perceive. Before you know it, the days begin to blur and seam together, and suddenly it becomes harder to pull yourself from the bed sheets. Mundane tasks feel impossible. One mishap, and you're knocked into a deep end of self-directed criticism.
...Right now, you were just tired of losing.
The palms of your hands smoothed themselves over the counter, allowing you to lean closer to the other person in the wall. She stared at you with unnaturally dark circles, tangled knots in her hair, and scabby, chapped lips.
As the fingers pulled and poked at the pores of your face, your stomach, the dead ends of your hair, your eyelids lowly closed, temporarily blinding you from the other woman in the mirror. You didn't want to look at her anymore.
Exiting the girls' bathroom, your lungs released a sigh, the weight of the relief turning your shoulders down to a hunch. It was lunchtime right now, meaning the grounds were void of anyone else for an allotted period of time. Even the instructors had vanished.
Plopping down at the steps leading up to the girls' barracks, your arms hugged the tops of your knees. Across the field, the trees swayed with the beat of the wind, capturing your lingering gaze into a hypnotic trance. It was nice to space out like this. It was almost like a break in time, and for once your brain quieted down, gifting you some peace for just a breath.
If only it was always like this.
Armin frowned at the empty spot beside him, his big, blue irises surveying the room specifically for you. No one else seemed to notice, being too occupied with their meals, yet his appetite disappeared the more you delayed your arrival.
"Have you guys seen [First]?"
All he got were shaking heads.
"Lunch's almost over. If she's not here by now, she's probably skipping."
Jean commented over a mouthful of bread. Though blissfully chewing on his meal, Jean remained unaware of the knot twisting painfully in Armin's stomach, his concern gnawing into his nerves like a parasite.
You were skipping meals, again.
--
It wasn't the first time you'd glared up at the wooden support beams hovering over your body. Whoever laid atop the mattress dreamt obliviously while you tossed and turned in a restless matter. Tonight was one of those nights, you supposed. A night filled with nonstop insecurities and fears to pick at you.
In the morning you laughed when Sasha pointed out your dark circles, jokingly comparing you to a corpse due to the intense shadows. She'd been so caught up in the joke she failed to realize how your smile didn't quite reach your eyes like it usually did. Your lips mimicked a facade. An act. On the inside, your heart screamed into your ribcage, pumping ferocious blood up your veins and speeding its pace to a marathon. You wanted to throw a tantrum and holler at Sasha's face, but instead, you smiled.
Surprisingly, you decided to go to breakfast that morning. Armin brightened up the second he locked eyes on you. With a wide grin, he patted the saved spot to his right, your shoulder bumping with his as you sat down. Turning to greet you, his lips straightened out at the unusual creases below your eyes, a worry forming between his brows.
"Hi, lovey. Did you sleep well?"
You nodded while sipping on some water, not quite facing him.
"Mhmm."
He pulled his brows together. "You sure? You seem a bit tired.."
"No, I'm okay."
His heart fluttered at your sweet smile, but pounded at his chest at the lie. It was a forbidden talent that served him well. You could fool the crowd with your act, but Armin would always capture the reality.
Throughout the rest of the morning, his brain surged with ways on how to approach you, and what would be best to say. Armin never liked to confront, but decided ultimately if this behavior continued with you, he was going to do something about it. He had to.
--
The day he finally had enough was when you skipped dinner three nights in a row. The skin of his bottom lip stung due to his anxious chewing, and after a few more minutes of no show from you, he abandoned his meal. Rushing out of the building, Armin kept his sights on the girls' barracks, hoping and praying to the clouds above that you were in there.
Tapping his knuckles to the wood, his frown deepened when you didn't respond.
"[First]? Lovey, are you in there? Can I come in?"
You didn't tear your face away from the floor.
"I'm coming in, okay?"
You refused to glance up when he entered the room carefully, his back sticking to the wall after closing the door. His heart sank even further into the sea inside at the picture of your defeated body.
You'd always been so bright, so pleasant to be around. Perhaps that's his bias, but even if you were to wake up feeling the grouchiest you'd ever been, he'd still find you lovely. You could perform the most unfathomable crime, and Armin's heart would still bleed for you. It pained him just to see you this way, as if it were him experiencing your troubled awareness instead.
He had to pull you out of it. He had to bring you back to the surface, back to him. He just may go insane if he doesn't.
"Can I sit by you..?"
You didn't move at first. Finding such peace in the vital markings of the wood that structured the floor, you almost forgot to respond. You finally nodded when you blinked out of the hypnotic planks.
Your mattress creaked to the added weight at your left. Armin's vision wavered when you still didn't look at him, your eyes focused intently on the floor and the skin of your fingers. Inching closer to you, he embraced your back with his arm, allowing you to lean against him.
Your cheek fit seamless into his shoulder. His blonde tresses tickled your forehead when he pressed against you, refusing to let go. Your body heated up his own like a beacon of light. You were so warm, always so sweet and warm. There wouldn't be anything in this world that'd dare separate him from you. But he was only halfway to his goal, so with a deep sigh, he broke the barrier.
"[First]...what's going on with you?"
Armin held his breath when you stiffened up, as if it was an instinctive reaction out of fear. His fingertips moved inwards to hold you even tighter. He braced himself for whatever response you were going to give, any retaliation or fight that you were okay, and that he was misunderstanding the situation.
But all rationality dispersed when he picked up on your sniffles.
Immediately pulling away, Armin took the sides of your face, fingers directing your chin up to him.
"Hey, hey, please don't cry, my love. My sweet girl."
His loving words only flooded your eyes more, making you melt into his palms. When your sniffles transitioned to muffled weeps, Armin wasted no time swooping his arms around your body. You clung onto him as if he were about to disappear any second, and that only made him tighten his embrace.
"Shh. It's okay, it'll be okay, [First]. We can talk about whatever's going on, okay..? I'm here for you. I always will be."
When you nodded and hummed in response to him, your nose nuzzling into his neck, Armin closed his eyes and focused on you, and you alone. If you weren't ready to talk today, he was more than okay with that. He was going to be there for you when you were.
It terrified you to speak of it. The ugly part of your brain that obliterates and sinks its teeth into your self esteem and confidence. The part of you that prevented you from living. But it was only a matter of time until you decide to stop losing and finally win this game, this damned curse you now live in.
With him though, maybe you can get through it.

In your eyes, he was divine.
No one in this whole world could ever compare to his wisdom, his ideologies, his careful heart that swelled with doubts and second guesses.. He was truly extraordinary. And it pained your heart desperately that he didn't believe you.
It'd been months since the operation to reclaim Wall Maria, also known as the grim mission concluding with only ten survivors left in the entire Survey Corps Regiment. A hard day to think back on, and you found comfort in the way your mind blocked out the stench of blood and the destruction caused.
Though sometimes, as much as you wished to forget, the grotesque image of his body burned down like charcoal flashed into your mind whenever you least expected it, welling up waves of tears each time.
You'd never forget how you almost lost Armin that day.
Following those events, he.. changed, so to speak.
Inheriting the powers of the Colossal Titan after eating Bertholdt whammed mountains of shock into his being the second he regained conscious. You remember holding him tight against you and sobbing into him, fingers trembling as they gripped onto his jacket.
He whispered apologies over and over into your ear as the memories of his brush with death flooded back in. He remembered amazing amounts of heat and then sudden quietness...When he came to, you were in front of him, glistening tears raining down your skin with a relieved smile.
The relief was euphoric. The reassurance that Armin was still here with you. Alive. You could get high on the pure joy that fact embellished your body with. The love you felt for him was addicting, and once you recognized it you couldn't stop. Your heart pumped more and more each time you bumped his arm with yours, when his cerulean irises locked onto yours, when his fingers caressed the softness of your cheeks.
You were hopelessly in love with him. You always would be, from now until the bitter end of his curse.
The first time he ever mentioned the incident you were hanging out in his room, lounging on his bed with a book in your hands. He stood in front of his mirror above his vanity with a deep, deep frown, his gaze jumping from left to right all over his body. He hated the way his physique looked; compared to soldiers like Jean or even his own best friend, he noticeably lacked in major qualities like height, large muscular arms, broadened shoulders..
Without even muttering a word you could feel the discomfort radiating off of him. Flitting your eyes from the pages up to his back, you watched him observe his body, mentally picking apart each flaw and adding another bullet point to his list. Your lips matched his frown. Swinging your legs off the side of his bed, you trudged over to him and locked your arms around his middle, leaning your cheek against his shoulder blade.
At first he tensed up, not anticipating your sudden presence. But then he softened, laying his hands atop yours and enjoying the comfort you gave him.
"..Do you ever wish I was...different?"
Your eyes popped back open instantly. "..What?"
Armin furrowed his brows and shook his head. "Ah. Never mind. Forget I said anything."
Before you could protest he twirled around to directly face you and pecked the top of your head, his hands interlocking with yours to bring you two back to the mattress.
The next instance happened at dinner one night. You and Armin sat beside each other like any other meal, chatting amongst Eren and the others when the blonde went silent, staring off into space. In your peripheral view you noticed him picking at his nails under the table, his blonde hair slightly hovering his eyes as he tilted his chin downwards.
Everyone else engaged normally with their conversations, but you didn't change your focus from him. Putting a hand on his thigh, he suddenly jolted, as if you'd broken him out of a trance.
"Everything okay..?"
He took a second to respond, gazing at you for a moment before directing his face downwards again.
"Mhm."
His hand didn't find yours this time. You frowned again, feeling the weight of your heart breaking under itself.
The time you finally broke was when you walked into his room one evening and saw his open notebook, pages laid out on display for all to see. You didn't mean to pry, but when you moved closer to the vanity and the inked words became bigger, your vision wavered.
"I shouldn't be here.."
"Why did he choose me? What makes me worthy of saving..?"
"So stupid. What a stupid decision he's made."
"I'm the only one who notices this. What do I do..?"
"I don't want to be here anymore."
An immense pounding punched into your ribcage as sobs crept their way up your throat, pushing your breathing to quicken. The water fell down your cheekbones one after another before your hands came up to hold your face. Leaving the unforgiving book behind, you bolted out his room and made a beeline to yours, finding safety in the farthest corner beside the closet.
Falling to the floor, you pulled your knees up to your chest and wept into the skin of your palms, not caring about anyone who could potentially hear you. Armin would be coming by soon, but all you could think of were his raw feelings embedded into the paper, and how he wanted to leave this world forever.
You wished for him to see himself the way you did. How outstanding and remarkable his mind and being was, and how irreplaceable he was as a soldier. You wanted him to love himself the way you loved him with every breath you took, even if just a fraction.
The sound of your doorknob slowly twisting open went unnoticed due to your sobs. Armin gasped at the sight of you tucked away on the other side of the room. His own eyes threatened to tear up at the sight of it, immediately wanting to be rid the emotions that plagued you. Rushing towards you he kneeled in front of you and grabbed your wrists to uncover your face.
"[First]..? What's wrong, love?"
When you opened your wet eyelids, you stared at him for a few seconds, processing him and his face.
Another sob broke out your mouth as you lunged for him, arms going around his waist firmly. Armin immediately returned your hug but not without feeling a bit confused, a crease forming in between his brows. A hand came up to cradle the back of your head, fingers softly rubbing your scalp.
"Lovey, can you tell me what's upsetting you..?"
He's always so considerate and caring. It made you weep harder into his chest. He held you tighter against him, giving your forehead a couple kisses.
Finally calming down enough to form words, you slightly pulled away from him to meet his eyes. A thumb rose up to gently wipe the tears away, soon falling to rest at your jawline. And then, he waited.
You took in a deep, deep breath.
"..I..I saw your notebook."
You didn't miss the twitch in his face. A wave of horror struck him in an instant. His hand fell back to his knees as sweat began to build up on his forehead.
"....Y-You did?"
His own eyesight grew blurry despite his efforts to contain his racing thoughts. It didn't help his tears when he felt the sensation of your hand on his, a feeling he'll never not get butterflies from.
"L-Listen, [First]...I..I can-,"
Armin didn't finish his sentence when your other hand directed his face to yours, leaning your forehead against his and closing your eyes. For a moment the two of you just breathed, listening to each other's emotions and relishing in the close proximity. Finally, you parted your dry lips to speak in a low tone.
"..I know you don't believe me when I say this.."
You paused as a sniffle escaped Armin, quivers ghosting his shoulders.
"..But you're out of this world, Min. There is not a single person out there who can replicate you.
And I know I'm not the only who sees this."
Armin choked on a sob as the memories of that dreadful day flooded back in. The sole reason for his doubts and hatred.
"Your mind is so beautiful, it's breath taking. You've made so many accomplishments no one in our Regiment could've ever done. So please, please, please, never doubt that you weren't the correct choice."
Pulling back you opened your eyes again, unleashing a couple tears in doing so. Armin was shaking with weeps, face flushed red and brows scrunched up.
"I love you, and I'll always be here for you. You know that, right..?"
He nodded again while wiping at his eyes. Taking a deep breath, finally calm from your own cries, you hugged him again, letting him bury his face into your neck.
Armin could never fully express how much you meant to him in simple words. How special you were and the overwhelming love he held for you was something that couldn't be described. As he began to cry louder and louder, he found himself repeating your words and your praises, and thought to himself that maybe...Maybe he can begin to believe you.

If you had been granted the phenomenon of future sight, you'd come to realize you'd probably be better off staying in tonight.
Social drinkers were no joke, considering you were one.
Not saying you never fell victim to alcohol from time to time by yourself, just that you remained smart about it.
There was a time and place for everything, a heavy emphasis on booze. But when those nights promising drinks came around, you knew your boundaries, the precautions, and the preparations to take for the evening.
You simply knew better when it came to alcohol. So naturally, here you were pouring your fourth shot with a wide smile on your face.
Throwing your head back with the burning liquid, a sharp wince in your nose, you whooped over the live music, slamming the glass down on the bar.
Sasha cackled at your dramatics, throwing an arm around your shoulder to pull you towards her. Mikasa chuckled and shook her head, content with her cold glass of water.
It'd been a tough couple days. Tensions with Marley left a bitter taste in your mouth, and counting the amount of heads in the room, many others felt the same. Who knew alcohol killed the intensity this much? It was a required distraction the whole military needed, and it was happy to provide.
With a swing band performing on stage in one corner of the bar, your friends sitting on both sides, you let yourself forget you were a soldier, instead dwelling on the good feelings acting like a dumb drunk gave you.
Only thing left that can bother you know was Armin, who hadn't shown up yet.
At first it didn't ring any alarms, seeing how much of a non-partier he was. But after spotting both Mikasa and Eren, but no blonde, it stirred your stomach.
Sasha noticed your frown and shook you. "Heyyyy,"
You blinked and rested your bobbing head on her shoulder, a heavy blur in your brain.
"Why are you saad."
"Pfft," you sputtered as you reached for your glass. "Who said I was ssad."
Mikasa fully turned towards you. "[First], come on. You've had enough."
You groaned. "No I haven'tt. I can still see."
Flicking the cork off the wine bottle, you messily dumped another cup, not paying any attention to the drops of burgundy on your sleeve. Mikasa sighed through her nose, crossing her arms over her chest.
Sasha giggled. "You're gonna throw up everywhere, dumby."
You snorted after swallowing, wiping any residue off your lips. "Did you just call me dumb."
"No, I called you dumby. Cause you're a dummyyy."
"Whahat does that even meaan." The two of you laughed, leaning heads on each other. When Sasha calmed down, she hummed and lifted her head from yours.
"Seriously though. Why are you sad?"
Even through her slurred voice you picked up on her serious concern. You groaned and fell onto the bar, cheek resting on the wood.
"...I ffeel like..he-he's upset. Or something."
Mikasa frowned, peering at you through the corner of her eye. Sasha tilted her head.
"Who?"
Planting your face into your arms, you grumbled. "...Armin."
Sasha tapped her finger on the counter. "Ohhh. I see. He's here, actually. Like, over there."
You snapped your head up. "Huh?!"
Following her pointed finger, sure enough there he was, chatting with Jean and Connie, hands void of any cup. A sharp pang of nerves filtered into your stomach. Why hadn't he come over to greet you?
"Wh-When did he.."
"A couple minutes ago, I think. I dunno actually." Sasha shrugged.
Mikasa resumed her sipping, now averting her gaze to her childhood friend.
Unbeknownst to you, Armin did plan on drinking tonight. He'd never tried alcohol, obviously, and he wanted to share the memory of his first time alongside you. But the way you continued to shove shots down your throat didn't sit well with him. The second he entered the bar he was greeted with that image, and he didn't want to push the idea of anymore shots by taking his first drink with you.
Raging thoughts of concern and paranoia swirled inside his head and were currently pouring out his mouth to Jean and Connie, who though tipsy, remained in tact enough to offer him some confidence.
"I mean, you have every right to worry. She's been downing shots since we got here. And that was what, an hour ago?"
Armin's eyes bugged in surprise. An hour ago?
"Yeahh that might be Sasha's doing. Or her own. Either way, Jean's got a point."
Connie nodded while bumping to the music, taking in another gulp of whatever booze laid in his glass.
Armin's frown deepened. He may be paranoid, but isn't an hour's worth of shots too much? He should intervene, right..?
Jean paused his dancing at the blonde's expression. "Just go. Go talk to her. If you don't I'll make you."
He panicked. "Ok, ok, I'm going."
Swooping in a deep, deep breath, he finally began heading your way.
Sasha immediately patted your arm, interrupting your intake of another shot.
"..Dude, what. I'm trying to-,"
"He's coming over here."
You almost choked. "What?"
"He's coming over here." Sasha repeated in an almost giddy way. Dropping your glass on the bar, you pressed your hands onto your knees, slightly leaning forward in a poor drunken attempt to appear normal.
"Hi Arminn." Sasha greeted with a laugh. Armin gave her a quick grin.
"Oh, hi Sasha. Hey [First]?"
With your body beginning to sway with your breathing, you stiffly turned towards him with a funny smile.
"Hii."
Coming to your left, he laid his forearms on the counter to bend his face closer to yours, speaking more quietly.
"Hi, um. Can I, can I talk to you?"
You leaned your cheek on your shoulder and played with the fabric of your pants, still not looking at him.
"..Mhmm."
You groaned, the blur in your brain growing more and more. Armin noticed this and pushed his brows together.
"[First]."
Taking hold of your other shoulder, your brain lulled you more and more into drowsiness, all those shots whamming you at once. Armin didn't like this. You'd drank way too much. Glaring up at Sasha, he stepped away from you and moved towards her.
"Sasha."
"Hey! Come to drink with us?"
Sasha wasn't really in a good state to receive his frustrations, but he didn't care. The crease between his brows deepened.
"Why did you let [First] drink that much?"
She frowned, the question knocking a breath of sobriety into her system. "Uhh, what?"
"She can barely hold herself upright. That many shots can't be good for her."
Armin's stress increased when Sasha just laughed, her flushed cheeks fading darker. "Armin. It was her-," Sasha pointed to your slouched figure. "-idea. Don't drag me into this. We're just having a good timee."
Planting her empty cup on the bar, she leaped off her chair and raised her arms above her head.
"I'mm gonna go dance noww."
Armin watched her leave with a bewildered gleam in his eye. It was your idea..?
"She's right."
The blonde snapped his head towards Mikasa. "I tried giving her water, but she just knocked it over."
Knocked it over..?
Oh.
He could feel his whole face turn red as a tomato, eyebrows beginning to twitch. Slowly turning back to you, his heart lit on fire when he spotted your fingers barely reaching for your glass.
Stomping back to you he slapped the glass away from you. Bending down to meet your eyes, you lazily looked up at him with a weary smile.
"Hi Armie."
"[First]. Is that true?"
You blinked a long, tired blink. "Mm what."
"That drinking this much was your idea and that you refused water?"
Oh shittt. A weak giggle emitted from your chest. "Noo."
He was seething now. Grabbing your shoulders, he jerked you to face him. "[First]. Be honest. Do not lie to me."
That finally made sense in your brain. Opening your blurry eyes a bit wider, a guilt ridden expression covered your face. Yes, it was. It was definitely your intention going in to not remember this night. To drink away all your stress and your fears about the future. But that plan had been reckless the second you came up with it.
You should've been smarter. And you weren't.
"....Yeah..'m sorry."
All you wanted to speak in was a low mumble. Armin studied you as he nodded to your words. He took in the skin of his bottom lip into his teeth, contemplating his next actions.
"We're going home. And you're never doing this again."
You agreed with him on that. As he stooped down to put your arm around his shoulder, his own taking your waist, the weight of your shame flooded in as you leaned your head on his arm.
Your own actions ruined his night. Today should've been fun, a night to remember. And you ruined it.
...You'd been way better off staying in.
