Laying down, looking up, listening to the night. An owl hooting behind, a blanket wrapped around, a sky full of stars above us.
Him next to me: not close enough.
I felt him breathing beside me. I felt myself stopping to breathe when his hand brushed mine. The adrenaline of the case long gone left me behind vulnerable and sensitive. No longer a soldier, just an ordinary guy who's falling in love.
I wished for it and was simultaneously afraid of it. I wished for it again when I saw another shooting star.
It was December when it came true.
A glare. Incredulity. An awkward laugh and my fingers tucking on my collar. Incredulity turning into confusion.
Fear made me wanna turn around. Turn around and run. Run until I forgot. Run forever, because how could I ever forget.
Looking up I saw confusion fading into amazement.
Something in his eyes made me smile. Feel warm inside, feel safe, feel brave.
He must have seen something in mine too because then: him, right in front of me. So close. Not close enough.
I don't know who leaned in first. I do know we met in the middle.
A wish came true and I wasn't afraid anymore. A wish of lips, tasting like biscuits.

The air was now chilly enough that you could see your breath and the little white flurries of snow pranced around you and your boyfriend while you waited in line to go ice skating. Genya had convinced you to go ice skating with him even though you had no knowledge of how to ice skate.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be right next to you so you can cling onto me, okay?”
He reassured you, he could tell you were nervous but he wanted you to feel safe with him. It was finally your turn and you began sliding on the skates, you were struggling a bit so Genya helped you put them on correctly and helped you stand up. You began stumbling and began to fall but he quickly caught you before you made contact with the ground.
“Woah woah, careful here, just lean on me.”
“If this is walking on normal ground then I can only imagine how difficult it will be on slippery ice!”
You clinged onto Genya some more and he laughed.
“Just follow my lead and you’ll be fine, I won’t let go until you're ready.”
He wrapped an arm around you and led you to the entrance of the ice rink. He stepped onto the ice but you didn’t, you were nervous, what if you fell? He gave you a reassuring smile and you took a deep breath, held onto him tighter and stepped onto the ice along with him.
It was way more slippery than you imagined and you slid a little but Genya had a firm grip on you and brought you closer to the wall. You desperately grabbed onto the wall and tried to stand straight but the ice was too slippery.
“Just relax and slide across the ice like this.”
He slid around the rink gracefully and came back to you after completing a lap.
“How the hell did you do that?!”
“You can do it too, just take it slow and slide one foot in front of the other, almost like walking.”
You glanced down at the ice and felt your stomach twist and turn. Genya let you cling onto his arm again and while staring at the ground and your skates, you repeated Genya’s earlier movements.
“Don’t stare at the ground, look up ahead since it’s better for balance.”
“I’m going to fall!”
“Trust me, soon be sliding all around the rink without needing me.”
You took a deep breath and followed his instructions, now you and Genya were slowly sliding across the rink and you were becoming more comfortable. Little by little, you and Genya sped up and before you knew it, you both were skating laps together while laughing.
“I told you you can do it!”
“This is actually fun!”
He let you go and watched as you slid by yourself with a bright smile on your face. He was extremely proud of you for overcoming your anxiety and trusting him, he was definitely going to bring you here more often.
Happy late birthday to everyone's favorite invisible peculiar, Millard Nullings. And happy birthday [again] to my favorite little raccoon guy [Enoch] :>
Found in open oceans worldwide from the tropics to the poles, the Orca (also known as the Killer Whale, a mistranslation of an early Spanish name for this species, “asesina de ballenas”, meaning “whale killer”) is the largest living species of dolphin, and one of the most extensively studied of all cetaceans. Like most cetaceans Orcas live in complex social groups known as pods, but the makeup of these pods is unlike that of any other mammal in that individuals of both sexes typically remain with their mothers for their entire lives: each pod is led by a dominant female (known as a matriarch) who guides the pod in finding food, and upon her death a matriarch will be succeeded by one of her daughters. All of the males in a pod (which can be distinguished from females due to their longer dorsal fin) will be a son of one of the females within it, and while they may temporarily separate from their birth pod to mate with females from other pods they will almost always return afterwards. Different populations of Orcas differ greatly in the strategies they use to hunt and the vocalizations they use to communicate with one another, with some researchers having likened these differences to the variety of languages and cultures seen in humans. Owing to their intelligence, large size and cooperative hunting strategies, Orcas are tertiary consumers (apex predators) in every ecosystem they appear in and have been known to prey on animals as large as Blue Whales and other tertiary consumers such as Great White Sharks (although smaller prey such as sea turtles, smaller dolphins, seabirds, pinnipeds and a range of fish species are more typical prey.)
