More swapped sketches. Princess Mallory of Auroria, and just…Auds, or A, on the Isle.
Unlike most other AU’s that have done this, Audrey doesn’t develop a rough exterior like C!Mal does. In canon she is a manipulator and thrives on attention, but her influence only works if there are people around her to control. On the Isle, Auds doesn’t have any friends. Everyone knows she’s not Maleficent’s daughter, therefore she has nothing to offer as an ally. She’s treated more like a servant than anything else. She’s invisible and outcasted, changing that manipulative part of her to be openly shy and insecure around others. She keeps her head down and stays out of other people’s way.
Mal, on the other hand, or Mallory in Auradon, is a natural born alpha with a stubborn streak and a scary amount of ambition. Like her canon-self, she has a very close knit group of powerful friends, but without the checks and balances of the Isle keeping her level-headed and a (decently) good leader, she instead is cruel, manipulative, temper-prone, and uses her magic (which she still has) to try and get what she wants. Ben x Mal is still a thing and stays a thing, but it’s a bit different now, I haven’t decided how yet.
If yall have any questions about this AU please feel free to ask, I really like the idea a lot and am having fun with the designs.

Mal's real lucky that Ben found the whole "giving me a cookie you spiked with a love potion" thing, cute.
Because otherwise this would've been a very different movie.

I read the first Hunger Games book for the first time (yeah, I know I know) and now all I can imagine is a Descendants Au of it.
Like, the villains keep having children, and the children are having children. The isle of so overpopulated, very quickly, and the only solution that the villains think of is making a group of children fight to death each year. This is eight years into the Isle. The goblins row the kids out to the Isle of Doom, and go back at the end of each week. Some are done in that first week, the longest went two months.
The first few times the kids tried not to, they are kids, but then the adults just killed them all.
Unlike the Hunger Games, they allow one male and one female to come out alive (this proves their worth, and their children could be "strong". Remember, these are villains trying to get off the Isle)
Jay ends up in three times, he comes out each of them just a little more haunted.
Mal goes in at ten, she comes out without her wings and half dead. Gil was in that year, and he saved her life. (He found out about her dad, because Mal's flames showed themselves and she survived too many attempts on her life. He becomes a shadow to her, and not even Uma's wrath will make him stop)
Evie ends up in there at 15, going in Dizzy's place. It was the quickest game the Isle ever had. She poisoned the remaining food and water, and thanks to her mother, she was able to go without it while waiting.
Uma and Harry were in together. Uma was 11, and Harry was 12. Ever since they've been inseparable, but they don't talk about what happened in there.
Carlos is a lucky one. His cousin Ivy took his place, and she burned the Isle of Doom to the ground. She's one of the few never allowed back there, as the next year's games weren't as entertaining for the oldest villains. (But that's the year they found out there's just a smidge of magic on the isle, because the few trees that were there grew back)
Many VK's try to disappear to avoid the games. Some live under the Isle in the tunnels, which has driven a couple mad.
And yet Auradon doesn't realize what is happening - or they just don't care.

"Someone has a crush on King Beasty." Mal teased her brother as she twirled her purple pen in her hands . Beside her, Evie smiled and Jay and Carlos laughed behind them as Y/N looked at her and tried not to blush.
"What that is ridiculous. I don't have a crush on Ben."
"Uh huh, sure." Mal smirks. "Tell me, why are your flames always pink when Ben comes around? You get this stupid smile on your face and your flame hair turns a shade of pink. Explain."
"I can't help if I want to try different colored flames. Besides, Ben is a King. And he smells like strawberries and sunshine. Gross!" He made a face.
Evie giggled. "So you noticed the way he smells?"
"You got it bad, dude." Jay teased.
"Shut up!" Y/N's hair burned high and hot as his eyes glowed red.
"Denial." Mal sing songs.

I wanna have something clever to say about these pics (mostly the way he's staring in the first one because oh wow,) but that just made me realize this is really genuinely the last moment that he actually has any clarity or agency as a character, allowed to make his own decisions.
After this scene, for the rest of this movie and even D3, he's Never Allowed to Disagree With Mal Ever (but expected to take the blame for her actions, somehow) and like. I just wonder if he knows that's how it's going to turn out. He disagreed with her once, she ran off, and all her friends think he's the bad guy. He's still compassionate and it's framed as a bad thing ("The Isle are my people too" vs. "Ben, Uma captured you".) And he tells Mal, "do what you need to do."
The choice is squarely on her. If she wants to leave, fine. If she wants to stay, fine. She already told him they were done on the Isle of the Lost.
Cotillion comes, and hurray! Mal stayed! But Ben's under a spell and everyone acts like he's to blame, like he betrayed Mal somehow. Carlos even implying he would rather have left Ben for dead on the island.
I just wonder, if maybe Ben took a look at all the circumstances and everything, and Mal's mastery of manipulation, and understood what his future was going to be: Agree With Mal, Always, or he would be hated.
Unless Mal made the choice to leave again, but she doesn't.

Fully convinced Mal wouldn't have disliked Audrey nearly as much as she did if Audrey hadn't immediately announced that she was Aurora's daughter. On the limo ride over, she responds positively to the driver's rudeness- Mal likes (or at least respects) people who are mean to her.
Currently imagining an AU where Mal doesn't know Audrey is Sleeping Beauty's kid (maybe Audrey is keeping it a secret from her for whatever reason, maybe cicumstances conspire to make sure she doesn't find out), so she just thinks of Audrey as "random princess with a petty streak" and she loves it tbh. Thank you, random princess, for being mean, it reminds her of home. Makes her feel alive in this pastel hell. Audrey is confused and frustrated by the fact that Mal seems to enjoy her hostility so much.
Ben, however, takes it as a good sign. So, when Audrey complains to him about Mal helping girls speedrun hair styling, he suggests that she take it up with Mal directly because hey, Mal seems to like her. Audrey does not like this idea At All, but she also wants to humor her boyfriend and she's pretty sure Mal's not going to kill her on campus, so she does it. She marches up to Mal's room and demands politely requests that Mal stop giving magic makeovers because goshdarnit, where does that leave those of us who are pretty through genes and work, huh?
Mal is delighted to learn that Audrey is 1) insecure about her position as The Prettiest and 2) is this willing to defend it. That's villainous motivation material, baby! This princess isn't just entertaining, she's potentially useful! And she has ties to the future king. At this point, Evie also takes an interest, because. You know. These kinds of hangups are more or less the entire reason Evie's mom is Like That.
Audrey has a very, very bad feeling about this.
