Series: A Zombie's Serenity

When it was late out at night Bucky and the Acey's drive the newbies to Zombietown and when Serenity steps out of the van she was happy. "I finally made into Zombietown." She says to herself looking around and see a little girl outside. She waves to her without Bucky seeing. She runs in as her name is called for dinner.

"Every year for cheer initiation, we like to remind zombies that we don't accept freaks on the town. Egg that zombie house and you three are officially one of us." The three turn to look at the house.

"Bucky, no. That's wrong." She tells him as a lady walks up to the driver side scaring them off. As they drive off Addison and Bree run to hide while Serenity stays where she was. "Sorry about them." She gives her a smile as the woman walks off.

"Serenity?" She hear Zed's voice so she turns around.

"Hi." She laughs.

"What are you doing here?" He asks confused but then sees Addison holding the eggs. He looks back at Serenity hurt thinking she was part of it too.

"Everything okay out here? Umm." His dad walks out and sees Serenity.

"She's just lost." Zed looks back over at her so she waves to his dad.

"Yeah, someone gave me wrong directions as a joke." She laughs.

"You should get home. Zed, come on back inside." His dad goes inside.

"I wasn't going to." She tells him before he goes into his house. Addison throws away the eggs and the three walk back home.

The next morning at school Serenity goes down to the basement to let Zed know that they weren't going to go through with the egging before he came out. "Whoa, whoa! There's no human students in the basement." The teacher/janitor says seeing her in the doorway.

All the zombies turn to face her, "Sorry but someone yakked in the cafeteria." She tell him which was true.

"Oh, right... still the janitor." He gets his things together.

"They could have at least made this place look decent for y'all." She look around.

"Serenity, what are you doing here?" Zed walks up to her.

"I wanted you to know we weren't going to go through with egging of your house before you even came out. My brother wanted us to do it for cheer intuition but we didn't want to do it. And I'm sorry for him being a jerk and it looking like we were going to do it."

"What if he sees us talking?" He asks her.

"I don't care." She says as Eliza groans seeing Addison come down.

"You beat me to the apology. Will we see you at the pep rally this afternoon?" She asks Zed.

"Zombies don't do pep rallies." Eliza tells her rudely.

"We'll think about it." Zed tells the two.

"Great, hopefully we'll see you guys there." Serenity smiles as Addison leaves. "I like your earrings. It's cool." Serenity tells Eliza before leaving.

"Which one do you like because I'm sure both like you." Eliza eyes him.

"I've talked to Serenity the most." He shrugs his shoulders.

"Do you think Zed will show up?" Addison asks as we get ready for the pep rally.

"I don't know." I shrug my shoulders.

"I hope he does. He's really cute." She giggles fixing her hair. "My natural hair isn't showing right?" She turns to me.

"No." I let her know.

"You're not showing either." She lets me know as I do a 360. Addison had full on white hair while mine was half white underneath.

"There's zombies at the pep rally!" Bree shouts making Addison run to look then Bucky and the Acey's.

While we start to cheer, I spent most of the time getting thrown in the air. When they pull out the spirt sticks I see Zed's friend start to act out and run while Addison was up in the air and the boys moved out of the way. Zed bulldozes through the football players and catches Addison before she hits the ground.

"You! Me! We gotta talk!" The couch calls Zed and Addison comes over to me smiling.

I force a smile as we leave to continue our day, "Bucky!" I walk up to him.

"What?" He asks annoyed.

"You could've got Addison hurt just to mess with Zombies." I cross my arms at him.

"They weren't supposed to be there." He walks off making me mad.

At lunch I sit with Bree and Addison without lunch because I wasn't hungry. While we sit Principle Lee announces that zombies are now allowed to get in the cafeteria. Everyone groans but I was happy for them. We all watch them walk in and Zed turns back and makes eye contact with me smiling.

As lunch goes on Addison smiles watching Zed while Bree just talks away. "My hearts racing and my palms are sweaty." She smiles as I get up and walk over to his table.

Some people notice and watch me, "I know you don't like me..." I look at Eliza, "But I wanted to congratulate y'all on your first step to getting out of that stupid basement. And congratulations on joining the football team." I give Zed a smile.

"Thanks." He smiles as his friend Bonzo holds out a flower he made of fruit.

"Thank you. You're really good." I smile as Addison joins us.

"Why is Perky Avon Cheerstick here? The point of having our own table is to avoid people like her. Them." Eliza speaks up now and Addison tries to say she came over to say thanks for Zed rescuing her but the Acey's show up dragging us off.

They tell us not to talk to them and to say away from them. Addison huffs going to sit with Bree but I leave to get something out of my locker. "You okay?" Zed pops up holding out what Bonzo gave me.

"Yeah. Thanks. I didn't mean to drop this." I take it from him.

"You know if things go well with me in the football team, zombies will be more accepted... and we could like hang out in public." He walks around the hall with me.

"I'm looking forward to that and we could hangout in public now. I don't care how people see me." I tell him.

"Even if people see you as a freak and you get kicked off the squad?" We stop walking.

"I love cheer but not that much to were I would die without it." I let him know.

"So opposite from Addison? She chooses cheer to fit in and she loves it. She said her hair was freakish... I just passed her in the hall coming to find you." He tells me.

"She has white hair like mine but hers is all white while mine is half." I let him know.

"Where is she?" We hear Bucky so Zed grabs my hand running away with me.

We end up hiding in the zombie safe room, "Why are we hiding?" I ask him.

"Because he doesn't like us near each other and I want to spend time with you." He smiles.

"I said I don't care about being seen in public with you." I remind him.

"I know it might be crazy. But did you hear the story?" Zed comes up from behind me.

"I think I heard it vaguely." I turn around to face him.

"A girl and a zombie." He walks away.

"Oh, tell me more, boy. Sounds like a fantasy." I follow him.

"Oh, what could go so wrong. With a girl and a zombie." We both look at each other.

"You're from the perfect paradise. And I'm living on the darker side." He makes shadow puppets.

"Ooh, I've got a feeling. If you get to know me." I roll my eyes at him.

"Right from the start you caught my eye. And something inside me came to life." I catch the little ball he tosses at me.

"Girl, you look delicious. Oh, I mean gorgeous." He makes me laugh.

"Well, now you're getting fearless." I move away from him.

"No, I'm just rooting for us." He moves closer to me. "If different was a super power. We'd be so flawless." He skips away. "Yeah, we could make these two worlds ours. I'm rooting for us." He puts his hand out to me. "Two lonely hearts meet in the dark. Imagine it now they start a spark." He pulls me to stand up.

"You got my attention. What happens next, then?" I ask crossing my arms.

"Movies and long walks in the park. Hanging out anywhere we want." He makes me smile.

"I like the way you're thinking. I can almost see it." I put my hand out to him.

The bell rings to go to class and I wish him luck on the football game. As he runs down the hall cheering I smile walking to class. "Where have you been?" Bucky pops up out of nowhere.

"Walking around." I lie so he narrows his eyes at me.

"Don't go looking for that zombie or else." He starts to walk away.

"Or else what?" I call out.

"I'll kick you off the squad. Then if you keep talking to it, I'll tell mom and dad about you liking a zombie. Then if you still disobey us... I'll talk them into sending you away." He marches off.

For the football game after school we didn't start off great because our team wouldn't help Zed. Every time he got tackled I groan making Bucky glare at me. I turn to face the crowd as we went into half time seeing the signs say no zombies and zombies go home. When the team comes back out Zed was finally doing better making Addison and I cheer for him.

"Feel that breeze, it's not a sneeze, Zombies score and run with ease! Woo!" Addison gets the crowd to cheer but makes Bucky not happy.

We win the first game and we all cheer. Addison throws her pompoms down running to Zed to give him a hug. He awkwardly hugs her looking back at me as Bucky drags me away, "I mean what I said."

I’m gonna assume this is for zeddison

17. Who say I love you first?

In canon, Addison. However I think (if that hadn’t happened) it would’ve been Zed because he is way more open about his feelings. He would’ve been super nervous and completely terrified, but when she reciprocates the feeling he’s over the moon.

But I do like Addison saying it in canon because it signals her being a ton more free. Like she feels free to be herself, and that includes in her feelings.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Zevon is worried about Zed dating a human but he knows his boy is happy so he’s supportive.

Zoey thinks Addison is super cool and nice and is totally oblivious to the whole human-zombie relationship issue.

Addison’s parents at first are just ignoring it. Pretending it isn’t happening. They’re not necessarily upset, just not big fans. They are totally uncomfortable around Zed because they have no idea how to interact with a zombie but they eventually get over it. Down the line (maybe a year or two) they are much more accepting of it.

Bonzo loves it. He thinks Addison is great, plus it means that (hopefully) he can go on double dates with them (if he ever asks bree out)

Bree is worried for ten seconds until she realizes how happy Addison is and is her number one supporter. She says to Zed, “You break her heart ill break you.” Super supportive and protective of Addison.

Eliza is wary because at first it seems fishy and strange, like some political ploy from one of Addison’s parents (you know, the chief and mayor). But Addison wears her down and they become friends and Eliza eventually joins the Addison protection squad with Bree.

Bucky doesn’t like Zed. He doesn’t like that he’s dating his cousin. But, he doesn’t like other people talking shit behind Zed and Addison’s backs. So he defends them and is supportive, just not to their faces.

"I can't believe we have to share our school with Zombies now." Bucky complains as we eat breakfast.

"Their classes are in the basement... it's not like you ever go down there." I say earning a glare from him.

"Zombies don't belong at school with us. They're disgusting and dangerous. You need to remember that, sis." He gets up from the table.

My entire family hated Zombies since one bite off our grandpa's ear so we were all raised to dislike them. I was the oddball out when it came to them though my whole life I tried getting into Zombietown but since my uncle was head of Z-patrol I always got caught.

"Good luck on cheer." My mom smiles as I grab my backpack.

"You know she'll make it. Plus Bucky picks and he's going to pick his sister." My dad gives her a look and they both laugh as I rush towards the door. "Remember to keep the under part of your hair tied and clipped up hidden away!" My parents shout.

"How excited are you for cheer!" Addison walks with me to school.

"I can't believe that's all our family thinks about." I say making her look at me shocked.

"Because our family is all about cheer, duh. I know we will nail the tryouts." She heads in as the bell rings and I see Bucky mock a zombie then screams as the zombie laughs touching the fence.

"You're such a scaredy cat, Bucky." I place my hand on his shoulder as the Z-patrol lady grabs the zombie making me feel bad as we go in.

"We can't let those monsters change this town, sis, cuz." Buck tells us as we walk the halls.

"They're just going to school like us." She tells him.

"I already told him that." I huff.

"Like us? People love me, okay? I got jazz hands. Those freaks are nothing like us. They tried to eat our grandfather." He turns to us.

"It was just a small... bite." She tells him.

"Cheer tryouts today after school, everybody. Let's go Mighty Shrimp!" He shouts to remind everyone and I walk off wanting to be alone.

When Addison comes in with her new friend Bree, I politely introduce myself and we all chat till the Z-Alarm goes off. In the halls, everyone runs around while we calmly walk Bree to the zombie-safe room. "Everything's gonna be okay." She tells her but she runs off.

"Bree!" I shout her name.

"I'll get her, you go to the safe room." Addison chases after her.

I look around but roll my eyes going to the safe room and the door locks behind me, "People are ridiculous and this room is ridiculous." I talk to myself then hear someone in the room running. "Hello?" I call out.

"Hello?" A guy calls out.

"Why did you run when you heard me come in?" I ask seeing a tall silhouette.

"You startled me." He tells me.

"I startled you? You startled me running around in the dark not saying a word." I chuckle walking around.

"Sorry, but this is not how I expected my first day to go." He huffs making his way towards me.

"Trapped in a zombie safe room? I sorta did." I tell him truthfully.

"Oh, no. That I expected too. That happens to me all the time, it's sort of my thang." He makes me laugh.

"So you get trapped in rooms a lot?" I ask him.

"No, that was a lie." He chuckles.

"You?" He asks.

"Sorta my thang. When Z-patrol always caught me trying to sneak into Zombietown when I was younger." I explain.

"Why did you try sneaking into Zombietown?" He asks getting closer to me.

"I wanted to prove I could find a nice zombie friend my age to prove my family wrong." I say as I hear Addison come in.

"I lost Bree. You made a new friend too. Hi, I'm Addison." She walks over to me.

"Hi, I'm Zed." He introduces himself.

"You have anything big today?" She asks him.

"I'm trying out for the football team." He tells us.

"Cool, my cousin and I are trying out for the Cheer Squad. Cheer is basically our life since we were little." She tells him.

"My dad doesn't even think I'm gonna make the team." He tells us.

"Is that because you're bad at it or something else. Because if you're bad at it, you're mostly to make the team. Our team sucks." I could barely see him with the lights still very dim even up close to him.

"But if you're good it will be like our job, hopefully, to cheer for you." Addison tells him as the lights turn on. "Ah! Zombie." Addison shouts punching him in the face.

"Addison! I'm so sorry, Zed. She has this reflex and it doesn't help with her seeing you're a zombie." I try to see his face.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. My parents, our family, have always taught me, us, that zombies are disgusting, dead-eye freaks, but... you're not hideous at all." She smiles at him and I roll my eyes.

"Thanks. I'll take it." He tells her and looks at me.

"As I hinted at, my family hates zombies. Ever since one bit our grandpa's ear." I tell him.

"But now we'll just talk your ear off." He gives me a smile and I notice Addison looking at me out of the corner of my eye.

"There you two are." Bucky rushes in with the Acey's moving us away from Zed. "If you ever touch my sister and my cousin again it won't be pretty which as you can see is off-brand for me." Bucky tells him. "To the cheer tryouts. Seabrook awaits." Buck grabs us taking us out of the room. "Both of you stay away from zombies. Especially you." Bucky narrows his eyes at me before walking off.

I turn to leave but Addison stops me, "Where are you going?" She asks me.

"I gotta get something from my locker." I smile.

"We have class right now." She drags me with her.

I knew football tryouts were going on right now and I wanted to apologize to Zed. While the teacher's back was towards me, and I was the closest to the door in the back, I sneak outside the classroom. Once out in the hall, I run off to football tryouts outside. When I get out to the field I see the team lined up and Zed talking to the couch before walking away upset.

"I'm guessing he said no based on your walk?" I speak up and make him look up from the ground.

"I thought you aren't allowed to talk to me?" He looks around.

"I'm not but when do I ever listen? Remember I said I tried sneaking into Zombietown when I was younger?" I chuckle.

"Why are you out here?" He asks confused.

"I wanted to apologize about my brother and say I'm nothing like him." I mess with my fingers behind my back.

"I can tell you're not like him. When your cousin punched me you apologized to me. When the lights turned on you weren't even scared for a second or disgusted." He smiles.

"I'm sorry you didn't make the football team." I look behind him.

"I'm not the surprise but it sucks." He agrees.

"I'm sure, you're a good player." I let him know.

"You don't even know me." He chuckles.

"You're right but still..." I chuckle.

"I never got your name." He tilts his head.

"Oh, I'm Serenity." I tell him.

"It's nice to meet you, Serenity. Wow, your hair is cool." He reaches to touch my hair and I see a strand of white come loose.

"Thanks, I was born with it but my family makes me keep it hidden under my dark hair. I like yours too. I should get to class... I snuck out to come see you. And I'm sure you don't want Principal Lee knowing you're out here." I motion back towards the school fixing my hair.

"Thanks. I was born with it. You should show it off. I think it's neat. But yeah, you're right. Good luck on cheer tryouts." He says as we walk into the school going very separate ways.

When Zed gets back to the basement Eliza narrows her eyes at him while he took a seat smiling to himself. "You really had to make someone pull the alarm?" She gets at him.

"I didn't mean to." He tells her.

"Why did you leave the basement? She asks.

"To go to football tryouts but I didn't make it because I'm a zombie. But I met two nice cheerleaders in the zombie safe room. I mean one punched me when the lights came on but apologized after her cousin apologized first. And she snuck out of class to come to apologize about her brother." He tells her as the bell rings.

"Football is stupid anyways." Eliza tells him.

"Thanks for the pep talk." Zed tells her as Bonzo makes fun of him. "Ha, ha, ha, Ha! Very funny. You know, I think that cheerleader likes me." Zed tells them.

"The one that punched you in the face?" Eliza asks.

"Maybe, who knows, but I'm talking about her cousin. The one who snuck out to see me. I think there's something there. You know? She's different and when she was young she would try to sneak into Zombietown to find a friend. I believe she's the girl I saw that one day and no one believed me." Zed explains to her.

"Look, humans are bad but cheerleaders are monsters. Things need to change." Eliza makes Zed look at the words on the wall. But she is different. I can feel it.

"Okay, let's go! Line up! Welcome to cheerleading tryouts. It's nice to see so many... wannabes. I mean, we'd want to be us too if we weren't already in the Cheer Squad. You need to bring it. Okay? Like..." I zone out Bucky continues his speech till it was time to start the tryouts. And we copy Bucky doing the cheer.

"Been waiting for this day to come. And it was all so clear. Since I was a little girl. I saw me standing here." Bucky points at Addison to go.

"And all the times they told me 'walk away' I said ' Forget it' I knew where I was headed. And I was gonna get it." Bree cheers as we continue the routine.

When it comes to needing to win over a crowd, Bree gives up while we wait for our turn. "We are the Mighty Shrimp! It's time to show you now! We got the stuff to light you up! It's getting hotter now! We're getting hotter now! It's getting hotter now!" I get the crowd going so me and Addison lead.

"Welcome back to the Mighty Shrimp. Wear our colors with pride." Bucky walks up to Addison and I and she thanks him and gets him to let Bree join too. "People love cheer. That's why makes me so important. And I'd hate to see that change. Change is upon us now that zombies have entered our school. Cheer is being threatened. C-H-E-E, are you ready to protect it? Let the cheer initiation begin!" Bucky says making us look at each other.
