Please read this fab NBC News article from 2017 about Diana Huey and her experience during her time playing the role of Ariel in a national touring production of "The Little Mermaid" in 2017. Despite the backlash she, as an Asian American and the production received, she persevered and made her dream a reality. She took a stand and truly used her voice to inspire others.
I hope we can ALL continue a dialogue allowing for more diversity in the theatre world.

On January 28th, 1985, supergroup USA For Africa (United Support of Artists for Africa) came together to record We Are The World.
In December of 1984, Harry Belafonte came up with the idea of assembling a group of musicians to record a song that would raise money for famine relieve in Africa. Belafonte contacted entertainment manager Ken Kragen to get people on the song, and was able to get Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, and Stevie Wonder. Quincy Jones was called to co-produce the song, and he was able to get Michael Jackson on board as well. From there, word about the project got around and other musicians were volunteering to perform on the track.
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song within a week at Jackson’s home in Encino, California, and on the night of the American Music Awards, when many musicians would be in Los Angeles, they recorded We Are The World at A&M Recording Studio.
A few of the artists, aside from the ones already mentioned, who helped record We Are The World, include Tina Turner, Huey Lewis, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Dionne Warwick, and Bruce Springsteen- among many others.
The song was released on March 7th, 1985 and raised more than $63 million for Africa.
A documentary of the recording session can be found on YouTube.

Those movies sound like good choices, though I have not watched around half of them (though I guess the Wolf guy would have taken the place of Legoshi, wouldn't it?). Other films that are good candidates, in my opinion, would be Balto, Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Early Man, Over the Hedge, Quest for Camelot (would be funny if Garrett was summoned) and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest.
What about Animated Series? Though best not to get into the ones that are way too long to end (like South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, etc).
I few I would pick would be...
Archer (Sterling Archer)
Owl House (Luz obviously)
Little Witch Academia (Diana, but cheating a little because it's an anime, but their interactions could resemble the ones between their relationships with Amity and Akko respectively)
Gargoyles (either Goliath, David Xanatos, or Elisa Mana)
Phineas and Ferb (Heinz Doofenshmirtz)
Star Vs the Forces of Evil (Marco)
American Dragon: Jake Long (Jake Long)
Danny Phantom (Danny Fenton)
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Either Catra or Adora)
and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Either Adam or Krass'tine)
I like the list you started, so here’s what I have:
(And I just realized that most of the characters will be even more traumatized by the adult shows I have here.)
Owl House (Luz)
Gargoyles (Goliath)
Phineas and Ferb (Doofenshmirtz)
Star Vs the Forces of Evil (Star or Marco)
American Dragon (Jake)
Amphibia (Anne)
Gravity Falls (Dipper or Stan)
The Proud Family (Penny)
Milo Murphy’s Law (Milo)
Kim Possible (Kim or Ron)
Danny Phantom (Danny)
Hey Arnold (Helga)
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Leo)
The Mighty B (Bessie)
My Life as a Teenage Robot (Jenny)
Fairly Odd Parents (Timmy) (And only up to season 5)
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (Jimmy)
As Told by Ginger (Ginger or Courtney)
Invader Zim (Dib or Zim)
Spongebob Squarepants (Spongebob) (And only up to season 3 and the movie)
Infinity Train (Tulip or Grace)
Steven Universe (Steven or Garnet)
The Powerpuff Girls (1998) (Blossom or Professor Utonium)
Ed, Edd, n Eddy (Ed)
Courage the Cowardly Dog (Courage)
Samurai Jack (Jack)
Teen Titans (Robin or Raven)
Code Name: Kids Next Door (Nigel)
Ben 10 (Ben)
We Bare Bears (Ice)
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (She-Ra or Catra)
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Adam)
Clone High (Joan or JFK)
The Boondocks (Huey)
Arcane (Jinx)
The Oblongs (Creepy Susie)
Inside Job (Reagan or Brett)
Tuca and Bertie (Tuca or Bertie)

here is the spotify link to Robin and Steve's Epic Platonic Soulmate Mixtape (vol.1) I'm going to say they made this version in the early spring of 1985. fic link
track list and explanations under the cut!!
Side A--the queer side
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler: I'm gonna take a wild guess and say y'all know why this is here
Rainbow Connection by Kermit: also self explanatory. and a bop. AND about rainbows. what more could you want?
Bangkok/One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head (Original Chess Recording version): 1) a banger. 2) from a whole musical written by the Bs of ABBA 3) Steve likes to listen to musical while vacuuming his pool :) 4) queer vibes. "the queens we use would not excite you" "i get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine" also to note they DID probably shave off the first minute of instrumental, but not all of it. I used this version and not the radio edit because in my heart of hearts I believe Steve picked up the Chess concept album in the fall of 1984, vibed with it, (I've answered an ask about stobin and the musical chess where I talk more) and that's the version he has.
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy by Queen: tbh always sounded gay to me, and it's such a fun song, I think they'd vibe with it and agreed it's a silly little nod to steve's previous rep.
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon: GAY GAY VERY GAY SONG "it's against the law...what their mama saw/it was against the law" HMM also it's catchy and has so much potential to be an angsty queer ballad too. (also Robin's dad is 100% a Simon and Garfunkle stan that's just. a fact to me.)
I'm Coiming Out by Diana Ross: iconic song claimed by the gays. for the obvious reasons. bit on the nose but this is for THEM.
Sunshine (Go Away Today) by Jonathan Edwards: About not letting someone control your life. It's catchy and heartfelt, dreams about the future. Steve's Vecna Song for me.
You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes: stobin are losers in the love department, and it's a great and hopeful song about not rushing into things. The Supremes Version because Robin is influenced by her former Hippie parents, and Steve by his Aunt Evelyn and her love of 50's and 60's music. They have appreciation for the Oldie Goldies.
Lady Marmalade by LaBelle: Disco baby. I also feel this was a song for us queer folk. maybe because I'm queer and I like it. it's great, and robin loves hearing women sing about having sex.
Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler: throwback to the first song on the mixtape Steve gave Robin at the very beginning! now with the Upside Down between them it means more too. it's also SO FUN to belt in the car. frantic and with a good beat. I don't think I need to justify this one haha
Believe it or Not (theme from Greatest American Hero) by Joey Scarbury: Robin LOVES this stupid show about a cringe fail teacher with his cringe fail life getting a super suit from aliens and then losing the instruction manual. It just feels like a show she'd like even though it's so silly. The theme song is actually great tho. I think it'd really tickle the part of Robin that feels overly average and a bit trapped in Hawkins, but feels those confines lessen when she's with Steve and getting to feel like there's more out there for her. Personally, I first heard it on cassette of top 100 tv themes (along with MASH, Law and Order, Hawaii Five-oh, Andy Griffith etc) sitting in a booster seat in the front seat of my family's motor home on a long summer road trip in the early 2000's, as my dad drove and told me what show each song was from. (Steve buddy I understand your dream so much ok. There's nothing quite like being a kid and going on a roadtrip with your family. magical.)
Side B--The Besties side
You're My Best Friend by Queen: Love song for your best friend me thinks yes :)
Stuck With You by Huey Lewis and the News: the only anachronistic song on the playlist, but I couldn't NOT put it on. lavender marriage stobin REAL. They're stuck with each other :) also look at Steve. He is a guy who listens to Huey Lewis. We know this. He heard this song a year before it came out and was like robin :') it's us....I'm stuck with you...I'm so Happy about it :))
Stoned Soul Picnic by The 5th Dimension: Robin's parents are former hippies. This song is fantastic. Pure vibes. Steve and Robin are going to get rescue cats that are bonded together and name them Sassafras and Moonshine for this song.
Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles: Bop and a half. Sing along song.
Both Sides Now by Judy Collins: 1)gorgeous song originally by Joni Mitchel but this version is a bit faster 2) Robin's former Hippie parents influencing her taste strike AGAIN 3) she tries to convince Steve it's about being "queer like him" and he doesn't buy it but "I've looked at love from both sides now/.../I really don't know love at all" and "Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange/ And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed/ Well something's lost, but something's gained" hit different for him
Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel: I chose this billy joel song because it's 1) catchy as all hell 2) about having sex 3) mentions dying and stobin are like We didn't die!! hell yeah! Steve's a pianist and tbh he loves billy joel. who doesn't. it was between this one and piano man i guess, tho i love many Billy Joel songs that are "deeper cuts" ha. and "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints/the sinners are much more fun" line is like. what are they gonna do. not be an emotional queer teen about it?
Raspberry Beret by Prince: it's catchy, and whilst originally I had put La La Love You By Don McLean here, I like this one better. Robin is definitely a Prince fan. and a beret fan. happy coincidink. and its a fun song! about loosing your virginity to a hot girl in a barn!
Indiana Wants Me by R. Dean Taylor: okay originally I'll admit I put this on the masterplaylist because. obviously post-s4 Eddie running away angst song even if it's more folk-rock than metal. I think Steve and Robin would listen to it and really vibe with wanting to go home but not being able to. even if it's not literally. also they live in Indiana and like. you've gotta respect a song about where you live. ALSO the cop sounds in it. so good.
Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen: a song? about being disillusioned with the American dream after seeing the institutional failures of the government??? very Steve. the whole album is great, and I know I've reblogged a post about Steve and the album (My Hometown hits different). It's angry, frustrated, passionate. Being queer in a small town where the government covers up it's human experimentation and alternate dimensions probably makes you feel a lot of things. All with the veneer of Americana.
Where Do You Go To (My Lovely) by Peter Starstedt: purely self indulgent of me. I adore this song. I think Steve heard it, and thought of Robin. The remembering, the deep knowledge of another person, the longing. When he told Robin that it's a song he always associates with her she tears up a bit, because it's so tender and loving, and a bit silly. Like. Steve knows she'll be amazing and can't comprehend anyone not seeing it. It's sooo tender.
Thank You for Being a Friend by Andrew Gold: Golden Girls didn't air their first episode until fall 1985, and obviously when it does Stobin are loyal viewers, (Steve is in love with Bea Arthur. as is right) but this song came out in the 70's. It's fun and cute and catchy! They love each other and are so, incomprehensibly grateful that they found each other.

i just finished watching 'the greatest night in pop,' and i'd like to preface this by saying that while i've always been more interested in band aid, i considered both band aid and usa for africa to be in that "well-meant, but a bit tone-deaf" league.
anyway, the documentary is actually really, really good!! it made me feel like a fly on the wall with all these 80s icons that i'm very fond of (the 80s are easily my favorite music decade). but amidst the bombast of "omg everyone is here," i mostly loved the little things??
lionel richie's heartfelt speech at the end was a beautiful ending chord to the doc; bob dylan really wanting to do his very best was actually endearing and puts more context to the meme-worthy out of placeness of him; and diana ross staying the longest and crying because she didn't want it to be over. also loved huey lewis, sheila e and cyndi lauper displaying their insecurities around all these music greats. and bruce was so cute 🥰🥰
it really showed these people at their very human, and it showed how well-intentioned (for most of them) the song was. gosh. do i actually like this song now??

I'm not sure if this will count as spoilers, or too long of an ask, but what are the relationships of the future kids as friends (like who does what, voice of reason, extrovert, introvert, Woodchuck, etc)
Junior Woodchucks: Estella, Luna, Denise, and Walt.
Introvert: Luna, Daphne and Walt.
Extrovert: Denise, Denny, Estella, and Sylvie
Voice of Reason: Denise, Walt, and sometimes Daphne.
The older kids are basically divided into two trios of BFFs: Denise, Denny and Walt, and Daphne, Sylvie and Estella.
Luna is basically everyone's baby sister, but she's got a best friend from Junior Woodchucks, Diana, who is even more into bugs than Luna is. The two of them, a retired middle school science teacher, and the teacher's wife make up the Duckburg Entomology Society that meets at the public library once a month. The wife really doesn't want to be there and hates bugs, but her husband was super uncomfortable being a grown man in a room with two little girls at their first meeting and begged her to join him. She is now the club's official provider of snacks and the two of them make up a set of honorary grandparents to Luna and Diana. Also she got them all hooked on mystery novels, so it's actually a combination Duckburg Entomology Society and Mystery Novel Book Club. The four of them once actually solved an attempted murder, as it involved some rare spider venom, and it was a very stressful time for Huey because he somehow got involved in the investigation as Gizmoduck and was really bad at pretending he didn't know his own goddaughter, and why was she even there in the first place?, while Luna played the situation way more cool than he did.

Today’s compilation:
All Time Hits, Vol. 1 by Dick Clark 1988 Rock & Roll / Doo Wop / Pop / Pop-Rock / R&B / Rockabilly
Sweet 21-song collection of late 50s oldies, presented by US pop and rock's most high-profile tastemaker during the latter half of the 20th century, Dick Clark. The liner notes don't explicitly state it on this release, but I'm willing to guess that Clark had a hand in making all of these songs popular by way of his own promotion of them, through both his famed American Bandstand program and radio DJing. I think the earliest songs on here date back to when American Bandstand first debuted.
The comp's dominated by very well-known hits, like The Penguins' "Earth Angel," The Chordettes' "Lollipop," and Bobby Day's "Rockin' Robin," but there's some pretty sweet, much deeper pulls on here too, like the loud and brash "Tallahassee Lassie" by Freddy Cannon, a song I've never heard before, and one that I much prefer now over his signature hit, "Palisades Park." Same goes for The Olympics' "Western Movies," a fun and interesting doo wop and rock & roll hybrid that makes light of America's then-obsession with westerns. It sways like a doo wop tune but Walter Ward leads with a rough and raspy vocal that's far more befitting of a rousing, Dion-ian rock and roll romp, like "The Wanderer.”
Also, never thought of this before, but Frankie Ford’s “Sea Cruise,” which is actually a cover of Huey “Piano” Smith and appears to use the same backing track, sounds a bit like some kind of proto-ska 😯.
Oldies, but goodies, as they say.
Highlights:
The Platters - "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" The Crests - "Sixteen Candles" Connie Francis - "Who's Sorry Now" Paul Anka - "Diana" The Chordettes - "Lollipop" Freddy Cannon - "Tallahassee Lassie" Jerry Lee Lewis - "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" Huey "Piano" Smith & the Clowns - "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" Frankie Ford - "Sea Cruise" Bobby Day - "Rockin' Robin" The Olympics - "Western Movies"

The rock star conundrum
The rock star conundrum https://seths.blog/2024/03/the-rock-star-conundrum/ Forty years ago, the royalty of rock spent the night in a studio to record one of the fastest-selling singles of all time. The documentary of the event is just okay, but it’s fascinating in how it shows us just how deep imposter syndrome lies. Only a few stars seemed at all comfortable–Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross. On the other hand, Waylon Jennings felt excluded and stormed out halfway through. Huey Lewis said his legs were shaking. Some notable stars were too afraid to come at all. And Bob Dylan, the same guy who won the Nobel Prize, seems profoundly insecure the entire time, and it’s only when Stevie and Quincy Jones give him some reassurance that he’s finally able to sing at all. We’d like to believe that if we only had the adulation, market success, and fan support of superstars like these, then we’d finally be comfortable and able to do our best. In fact, it seems the opposite is true. Imposter syndrome shows up because we are imposters, imposters acting ‘as if’ in search of making something better. Perhaps the best plan is to show up and not walk out.
