I want to make people see how much has been taken away from them.
Did you know that there are dozens of species of fireflies, and some of them light up with a blue glow? Did you know about the moths? There are thousands of them, bright pink and raspberry orange and checkerboard and emerald. They are called things like Black-Etched Prominent, Purple Fairy, Pink-Legged Tiger, Small Mossy Glyph and Black-Bordered Lemon.
Did you know that there are moths that feed on lichens? Did you know about the blue and green bees? The rainbow-colored dogbane beetles? Your streams are supposed to teem with newts, salamanders, crawdads, frogs, and fishes. I want to take you by the hand and show you an animal you've never seen before, and say, "This exists! It's real! It's alive!"
There are secret wildflowers that no website will show you and that no list entitled "native species to attract butterflies!" will name. Every day I'm at work I see a new plant I didn't know existed.
The purple coneflowers and prairie blazing star are a tidepool, a puddle, and there is an ocean out there. There are wildflowers that only grow in a few specific counties in a single state in the United States, there are plants that are evolved specifically to live underneath the drip line of a dolomite cliff or on the border of a glade of exposed limestone bedrock. Did you know that different species of moss grow on the sides of a boulder vs. on top of it?
There are obscure trees you might have never seen—Sourwood, Yellowwood, Overcup Oak, Ninebark, Mountain Stewartia, Striped Maple, American Hophornbeam, Rusty Blackhaw, Kentucky Coffeetree. There are edible fruits you've never even heard of.
And it is so scary and sad that so many people live and work in environments where most of these wondrous living things have been locally extirpated.
There are vast tracts of suburb and town and city and barren pasture where a person could plausibly never learn of the existence of the vast majority of their native plants and animals, where a person might never imagine just how many there are, because they've only ever been exposed to the tiny handful of living things that can survive in a suburb and they have no reason to extrapolate that there are ten thousand more that no one is talking about.
It's like being a fish that has lived its whole life in a bucket, with no way of imagining the ocean. The insects in your field guide are a fraction of those that exist, of all the native plants to your area only a handful can be bought in a nursery.
Welcome to the Earth! It's beautiful! It's full of life! More things are real and beautiful and alive than a single person could imagine!!!

Shadow Dwellers / Cave dragons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the more uglier dragons, they are very self aware of their looks. They constantly cover themselves in as much jewelry as they can find to make themseles appear "prettier". Shadow dwellers are big creatures who have big strong forarms and long thick claws for digging, while their smaller back legs are mainly used for pushing themselves deeper underground. They have whiskers on their feet nose and neck to help measure how wide a space is, wether or not its too narrow to get into. Their tails are covered in long sharp spikes, which is used as a defense. They usually come in very dark purples, oranges, blues and reds but yellow and greens have been seen. It is rare for one to have a light color (like the one in picture 4. Picture 4 also shows off the extent of jewelry). Their wings are attacted to their forearms which can make it difficult to move around in some areas in caves. They have four eyes which serve no purpose (i thought it looked cool) the pupils are constantly dilated to make it easier to see in the darker conditions. They are sensitive to light and require special eye wear when traveling above ground. Shadows dwellers call a series of cave systems and tunnels their home, with the kingdom being a very large cavern

They have different beliefs as well, believing that the kings should rule instead of the queens. Thsir current king is king Dolomite (1st and 2nd image) his wife is Queen excellent (3rd image) the caves are extremely dangerous, with cave ins being a constant threat and lack of oxygen and narrow passages and falling into deeper holes. You will see many dragons with scars and disabilities from cave ins or falling rocks etc. This is what happened to king Dolomite, who suffered major injuries from one of the largest cave ins in their history. He, unlike many others, was lucky to stay alive, only suffering a disfigured leg and difficult vision in his left eyes. They get alot of their food imported from the shorewings and food that has been hunted from the forest dragons. But the food that they do get from the caves are mainly bite size fish or salamander, cave shrimp and crayfish. Shadowdwellers are fire breathers, and use their Fird to light torches which help the town see throughout the day! Names are based off of cavern names, colors animals that dwell in caves, crystal types and pretty names like beautiful or gorgeous.

Buying Crystals - Common Fakes
Part 5 of 7 in a guide for buying crystals. Read the rest here!
We are finally at the wholly fake crystals! These crystals are either dupes of real ones, real crystals passed off as other crystals, or man-made crystals without a natural analogue. I'm excited to get into this because once you know what to look for, its hard to be scammed.
And to be clear, if you value any of these, either as collector's items or as spiritual tools, that's perfectly fine. My issue is when people try to pass off crystals (or not-crystals!) as something they're not.
Real Crystals Sold As Fakes
Howlite - A very common dupe for turquoise. Real turquoise is very expensive, so cheap turquoise is likely to be dyed howlite. This may also be called turquenite. Acetone removes dyes.¹ ⁶
Malachite - Genuine malachite is green to dark green (never stark black), the colours fade together softly, without uniform patterns, and often with circular patterning. Conversely, fake malachite, often made of resin, may have black, hard lines, and uniform patterning normally without circular patterns.²
Clear quartz - Clear quartz is often faked using glass. Real clear quarts will have some kind of inclusion, even if they’re not visible to the eye, and will NEVER have bubbles in it.³
Obsidian - There are many types of natural glass, such as obsidian and moldavite. Real obsidian is opaque, dense, and its colours range from black to brown. Many fake obsidians promise vibrant colours impossible for real obsidian to form as.⁴
Moldavite - Moldavite is incredibly rare due to not only being found in one location, but being exclusively formed by meteorite activity. Real moldavite will be mossy-coloured, while fakes may tend towards light green. White moldavite is not real; it is typically calcite.⁵⁻⁶
Moissanite - Natural moissanite is incredibly rare. Most on the market will be synthetics.⁶
Citrine - Citrine is heated amethyst, but most citrine on the market will be artificially heated and sold as natural. Natural citrine has a colour ranging from olive to lemonade, and will never be found on a geode. A telltale sign of artificial citrine is any sign of a parent geode, especially a bright white colour on the bottom of the crystal, as well as the crystal’s colour generally looking “crispy” or bright orange.⁹
Prasiolite - Green quartz is incredibly rare in nature, and thus, most found on the market will be heat treated amethyst of certain localities. Typically, natural prasiolite is light, translucent green, while darker varieties are treated.¹¹
Geodes - Geodes are typically made of quartz, but less commonly calcite, dolomite, aragonite, akerite, hematite, magnetitie, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite.¹² Anything else is either incredibly rare or nonexistent. Many geodes may be dyed, modified, or sold as crystals they are not.¹³
Man-Made Crystals Without Natural Analogues
Glass (artificial) - There are many types of glass that are sold as natural crystals, such as goldstone (erroneously marketed as sunstone) and opalite (opal imitation, erroneously marketed as moonstone).¹⁰
Smelt quartz - Also known as cherry, blueberry, etc. quartz, are made of dyed glass.⁶
Slag - Slag is the byproduct of smelting. Names of commonly sold slags are: Fordite/Detroit agate, Sieber agate, andara crystal, rosarita, leklai, Frankfort green, and Leland blue.⁶⁻⁸
Cermikite - Also called alum crystal, these are commonly made in “grow your own crystal” kits. They are made of potassium aluminium sulphate.⁶
Chalcanthite - Synthetic crystal made of copper sulphate. Natural chalcanthite is incredibly rare and grows as fibrous crystals. This is a toxic crystal.⁶
Lopezite - Synthetic made of potassium dichomate. This is a toxic crystal.⁶
Cubic zirconia -  Diamond imitation made of zirconium dioxide.⁶

Her personal phone buzzes almost as soon as they end the call. True to her word, Sam has already sent her an email.
Lena scrolls through it and logs into her Spotify account to peruse the selection. Sam has linked some True Crime shows — while hearing about murders may give her some fresh ideas on how to dispose of Sam's body, Lena doesn’t think they’ll help her sleep — several horror ones —  “are you fucking kidding me?” — and no less than five finance focused podcasts.
The latter may actually put her to sleep, Lena isn't sure the quality of her rest will be improved.
She's about to write back and admit it was a legitimately good prank, when her eyes fall on a link at the very bottom of the email.
I think this one's right up your alley, Sam wrote, punctuating the statement with a ;) Give it a shot!
Lena sighs and clicks on it without bothering to see what it's about.
Can't be worse than the others, can it?
She presses play.
"These ancient stars are incredibly dense." A woman's voice fills her office. "So dense in fact that a teaspoon of their matter would weigh as much on our planet as an elephant— 5.5 tons to be exact. Can you imagine?" The speaker laughs, soft yet bright. "White dwarfs are tiny too, if compared to the sun we're all familiar with. Typically, their radius is .01 times that of Sol. Mass wise they are about the same."
Lena pauses the recording and releases a breath she hasn’t realized she was holding. For a moment, the stranger's voice transported her elsewhere. To the top of a quiet hill, a sailboat at sea, away from the city and the headache pounding against her skull and L-Corp's very pressing problems. Someplace where it is already night, where this unknown woman is sitting next to her, whispering the ancient secrets of the stars in Lena's ear.
A quick internet search — the podcast is aptly named Starstruck—  yields a photo and a name.
Dr. Kara Z. Danvers, graduate cum laude of UC Berkeley and one of the youngest astrophysicists in the country, is a tall, handsome-looking blonde with shoulders for days, and the sort of perfect smile that’d put a dentist out of business. Her eyes are such a vibrant oceanic blue she seems to be staring out of Lena's laptop screen and right into her soul. Lena feels, somehow, that she should already know her.
Fuck. She inhales Kara’s accompanying biography slack-jawed.
She’s exactly her type, too.
You could have put her podcast at the top, Lena types to Sam, unable to tear her eyes away from the photo. Actually, she could have been your only suggestion.
I know, Sam sends back, almost immediately. I wanted you to suffer a little.
I hate you.
Will you still hate me after I tell you she has a Youtube channel too?
Lena types up an answer, deletes it. Types it up again — some slightly more colorful language included — and doesn’t hit send.
Thought so.
Sam is lucky that there’s a country between them.
One extra round of Googling later, Lena pulls up the YouTube channel in question, which makes things a 100% better, but also 1000% worse. Because now she has visuals — now she can watch Kara talk about the mysteries of the universe in crystalline clear 4k resolution. She stares enraptured as Kara talks about solar eclipses and climbs the sheer side of a mountain in the Italian Dolomites in a tight tank-top, all bronzed arms and powerful back muscles. The moment she gets to the top and turns to the horizon, the shot panning dramatically to take in the view, the montage shifts forward into night.
A different angle. There’s so much noise the camera can barely pick up the shot. Kara points to a light hovering shy of the nearest peak, and as the image zooms past her finger to bring it into focus, she explains the concept of planet alignment.
The screen fades to black, changes to a feed of Kara walking along the crest, her shoulder camera shuddering a little with each step. Another climb, this time by moonlight, and Lena’s heart is racing every step of the way. But, seemingly bottomless ravine right at her feet notwithstanding, Kara is calm — collected. She leans against the cairn at the very end of her trek as the sun is breaking over the horizon. Looks straight into the camera and smiles. Pink, otherworldly light illuminates her.
She isn’t even out of breath.
“Miss Luthor?” Red-handed, Lena jumps and shuts the laptop’s lid. It’s only Jess. “I, uh, was going to go home? If there’s nothing else?” Jess frowns at her tablet, then at Lena’s face which must be burning supernova-bright. “Are you alright?’
“Yes. yes of course.” God, it’s well past 6. Did Lena really just waste her afternoon on YouTube? “And no. There’s nothing else. You can go home.”
“If you’re sure…”
“Positive.” Lena cautiously re-opens her laptop. The video looped back to the start and froze on a frame of Kara halfway through the first climb. “Please, close the door on the way out.” She ought to watch it a few more times, Lena thinks, hitting resume as soon as Jess ducks out of the office. To better understand its concepts.
For science.
She goes through the rest of Kara’s content like a madwoman, and Sam was right, it helps her sleep, but she runs out of things to consume in a matter of days.
Lena is addicted. She’s a junkie and she’s hooked. Without her fix she becomes intolerable to be around.
The Venus transition - Lena is a CEO with insomnia. Kara is an astrophycisist with a podcast. OR A different Supergirl reveal. Read it on Patreon.

Updated Flora, Fauna, and Environment of Region
Flora, Fauna, and Environment of Region
I did Flora, fauna and environment of Neldoreth here.
Flora, fauna, geography and environment of Arda
This entry is part of a series on the biodiversity and environment of Doriath.
I wanted to rewrite this to take into consideration the probable alkaline quality of the earth around Menengroth as well as the ecology of Holly forests
Region was the larger forest of Doriath, South of the river Esgalduin and North of Aros. The capital was Menengroth which was located in the northern parts of the forest, accessed by a bridge over Esgalduin and made up of a series of caverns and caves.
It is a warm temperate forest with moderate to heavy rainfall depending on the season and short winters. The biome is likely temperate broadleaf and mixed forests with the ecoregion being inspired by Atlantic,  Balkan or Cantabrian mixed forests.
Unlike Neldoreth, few species are directly named aside from holly (actually a large family rather than a single species) and nightingale.
In the Lay of Leithian, we have these lines
Lo! there amid immortal flowers the nightingales in shining bowers sang o'er the head of Melian, while water for ever dripped and ran from fountains in the rocky floor. There Thingol sat. His crown he wore of green and silver, and round his chair a host in gleaming armour fair…
The caves themselves are possibly limestone with dolomite and hewn marble (marble basins are described) and so the soil around the entrances is alkaline
Holly does not tolerate high levels of alkaline in the soil so although it is one of the more prominent trees of Region it likely does not grow near Menengroth. Holly also grows typically in clusters in oak and beech forests which is fitting as Doriath has both and Thingol was known as the king of beech, oak and elm
Near the entrances, wild chives, columbine, ox eye daisy along with clusters of evergreen ash trees and blackthorn. Bird’s nest and early purple orchids can also be found closer to the caves as well
Note: I will make a separate post on the royal gardens of Menengroth if there is interest
The forest was described as being made up of holly trees, likely European and mountain holly along with a variety of holly or ilex family shrubs (for example, Box leafed holly is pruned and cultivated in and around Menengroth itself, aided by the magic of Melian.) Other trees likely grew alongside them including cedar trees, wild cherry, white oaks, pointed leaf maple, and sweet or emperor oak.
Black elder, shoreline figwort, water horsetail, heath violet and meadow soft grass grow on the borders of the forest and by the rivers along with groves of gray willow.
Also of note are wolf lichen, bearded lichen, panther cap mushroom, false death cap and death cap, devil’s bolete, wood blewit, fairy inkcap, yellowleg bonnet, bracken club fungus,  eagle ferns, glade ferns, and fiddlehead fern which grow on the forest floor, upon trees themselves and on fallen trees . (mushrooms and lichens are not plants unlike ferns which are, I’ve grouped them together because of where they are in the forest)
Like in Neldoreth, a variety of species associated with ancient woodland grow especially in the spring including bluebells, crocuses, snowdrops, and dog’s bane
As always, insects are nearly impossible to do even an overview of because of the huge variety of species but here is a brief list and if anyone wants me to ever do more in depth posts on them, I’m happy to! June beetles, dead leaf mantises, blue crickets, stick insects, leaf beetles, speckled wood butterfly, small copper butterfly, holly blue butterfly, gatekeeper butterfly, and large blues in clearings and by the river.
Little bitterns, black bitterns, wood ducks, species of swallow and house martin, gray heron, Weavers, yellow, white and citrine wagtails, nuthatches, nightingale, robin, thrush, green finch, wood warbler, red kites, kestrels, and more. Like with insects it’s hard to get a good list so this is only a selection but I’d be happy to do a longer list if anyone wants! I do personally headcanon that there are prehistoric creatures (by our world’s timeline) in the deeper woods of Doriath though I think many are North and West of Region in Neldoreth and Nivrim. In the gardens cultivated by Melian near Menengroth however you can find creatures like the hummingbird ancestor Eurotrochilus.
Wood frogs can be found in the undergrowth especially near logs and fallen trees. Golden newts are less common outside their breeding season where they are in abundance in small verbal pools.
The mammals of Region have a lot of overlap with those of Neldoreth. Musk deer, barking deer, masked shrew, sable, pale wild cats, black, silver and light red foxes, wood mice, river otters, elk, and stranger creatures too.
I kept to real creatures here but I’d be happy to talk about my ideas for others.
I will do a separate post for the rivers in more detail and as always, please feel free to send questions or requests!

charlos italy and royalty au <3
hiii anon!
the name of the doc is so dumb but it's based in the time when they were both at the training camp in dolomites (and didn't give us ANY content which... rude) so i just went to delulu land and started writing about charlos in secret relationship. basically, it's one shot where they managed to meet in the hotel and it's just fluff.
here's a snippet for you!
The cold water Carlos walks into bites deep into his skin, digging into his bones. He shivers, his whole body shaking as he stands close to the railing leading into the icy water.
Hiking today and karting the day before took a lot of Carlos‘ energy. His legs feel like jello and although the icy cold water helps to soothe them a bit, after the whole day, Carlos can’t wait to just lay down on the bed in his lodge and relax his muscles.
Pre-season training is hard and Carlos has always been the one to follow every rule and step of the way to the perfection. As always, Rupert set the rules for him to follow and aims to fulfill and even though this one particular training camp he is accompanied by his friends, Carlos misses that one piece of himself next to him.
The lights around the resort flicker and Carlos watches the dusk slowly cover more and more of the sky.
It’s so beautiful here, Carlos thinks and hears shuffling behind him. Finally.
royalty au is ofc charlos. it is connected with arranged marriage as well, where Charles has to marry Carlos because of agreement with Sainz' kingdom, but it has a catch, that i do not want to reveal yet <3 neither of them is happy about it so it could also be enemies to lovers
here have another snippet hehe
Deep down, Charles knows this whole situation is not to be blamed on his older brother, but he does not feel like being rational. His brain is screaming at him to blame this on Enzo and be as mean as possible to him.
„P-please, this is not fair,“ his voice is wavering and weak even to his own ears. Thank god no one else is in the room. No servants, no guards, no one. Just him and his family, looking at him as if he was some wounded animal bitten by predators.
And he feels like it. Maybe no one will bite him or kill him, but he feels like he might go insane soon. His whole life crumbled in front of his eyes with only one sentence his father told him few minutes before.
Charles feels vulnerable to be looked at like this. He considers himself strong and intelligent person, but in this situation he feels anything but that.

Any crystals that you think are cool and that more people should know about?
Sorry for the late reply (I'm busy traveling) but yes!!! I don't have ground breaking totally unknown crystals for you but from my collection I will tell talk about some fun little rocks.
-
Let's start with what is arguably my favourite crystal and it's a pretty underrated one;
iolite
Yes, that's where the Violet_Iolite username comes from (it's my username almost everywhere else besides here)
Tumblr media
I have a polished and cut iolite which surprisingly might not be the most interesting form of this mineral. Iolite, or cordierite (the actual mineral name, iolite is the name used in the gem selling business) is a stone that depending on the side it can vary from a light yellow to a purple/blue. Mine is cut in a way where the blue is always the most visible but the sides have the slightest nod to the yellow. Some of the best raw forms will change between these two colours if you turn them around.
Tumblr media
I will say the iolite names comes from the Greek ios, violet. So yes, my Minecraft username is something like Violet violet (stone).
-
Next I will talk about fake crystals versus lab grown ones...
When I say a fake crystals I mean crystals that are sold as other ones when that's not what they are.
Lab grown gems are different in the way that they are chemically the same as natural gems found in nature. In case of diamonds for example is much better for the environment (and in some cases for the health of the miners) if you get a lab grown one. However not all gems are possible to produce in a lab, sometimes they're more expensive to produce in the lab and in cases of quartz based gems the natural gems are so common it isn't worth it.
I'm mentioning this because of the next gems I will show.
-
Moonstone and sunstone.
Moonstones and sunstones are probably the gems that are most faked (turquoise too but at least turquoise is rare).
Moonstone is a type of light coloured stone (either white, sometimes pink) which has a very pretty blue glow (occasionally it gets a yellow one too) only in certain angles. Opaline (or opalite), a man made gem, is very commonly sold as moonstone however opaline is not even close to being moonstone. Opaline is translucent in a way moonstone isn't and it doesn't have the shine moonstone has. Opaline is a type of glass which commonly has dolomite and metal to make it the colour it is. It was actually made to copy opals so I don't really know why people try calling it moonstone.
Next is sunstone! Orange or brown in colour sunstone is not that special looking. If it's high-quality it will be more translucent and it might have some touches of sparkles but it's not usually something very strong. Our fake stone this time is Goldstone. Also a man made glass goldstone is made with copper.
There's a blue version of golstone which instead of having copper it has cobalt or manganese.
Tumblr media
I have booth types of goldstone (the blue one is my favourite)
Tumblr media
-
One that is moderately well known but it's absolutely cool anyway:
Alexandrite
One I recommend you buy lab grown or you'll waste all the money you have. Alexandrite is super cool because depending on the type of light you shine on it the colour will change completely. My alexandrite when in LED light (the light that most lamps have nowadays) or natural light is green. When under incandescent light (old lamps) it gets completely pink. If you lived only under incandescent light you'd believe it to be a pink stone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When under both types of light:
Tumblr media
-
Chalcopyrite (peacock)
Similar to pyrite but softer, with copper and and can tarnish with pretty colours chalcopyrite is a pretty cool metal. Wikipedia says it is "the most abundant copper ore mineral." So the copper you have in your cables is most likely from this mineral.
Chalcopyrite is in front and the pyrite (unfocused) is in the back of the picture.
Tumblr media
-
Bismuth
I could've actually gotten an ok priced natural bismuth but I decided that getting a bigger sized would probably be better. This one might be lab grown. I'm not sure. The lady that sold me didn't know where it was from. It is 100% heat treated either way, as heating it gives it the lovely colours it has. It is a metal and according to Wikipedia it is "both the most diamagnetic element and one of the least thermally conductive metals known."
Tumblr media
So... The last two are actually metal and not crystal but they are cool rocks so it's fine either way.

“And how many years must a mountain exist,
Before it is washed to the sea?”
Name: Hayate Yagiyama.
Stand: [BLOWING IN THE WIND]
Ability: Summoning swarms (of varying intensity) of insects, restricted to only one type at once. (he favors the bald faced hornet as it’s not specifically venomous but is very sharp and large and he wants to be left alone.)
He’s found as a juvenile by one of the rare members of his species, Dolomite, who can’t help as much as he would like to. He mostly keeps a watchful eye.
Later, as Hayate’s powers activate and his features are more apparent, he realizes who his parents must have been. It’s uncanny to him, especially having known them both.
Hayate becomes a librarian in order to hide his “sleep habits” but continues to assist Dolomite and enjoys being told stories of what his parents were like. Despite rock humans abandoning their young, he still thinks it’s interesting and wishes he could have met them.
He is gentler than most rock humans tend to be, a little more like Aisho in the sense that he has a softer heart… though he does get extremely intense when upset, more like Yotsuyu, rather than breaking down the way Aisho would have.
(I WISH I COULD COLOR HIM :( )

my ancestry, in brief:
From Mom's side: Fruilan-Italian in the side of my grandpa (with one Spanish great-grandma) and Trentino from the side of my grandma. In fact, neither side of my family came from Italy proper, they both came when both regions were still the Austro-Hungarian empire... technically, my main Italian connection is actually Trentino (and the Trentino community here and elswhere considers itself rather separate from the other Italians). I have documentation stretching to the actual village they came from near the Dolomites, it's very likely they came escaping from the Austro-Prussian War. On my Grandpa's side, it was an important name in Renaissance Venice (it's actually mentioned in several historical studies), and there's actual family chronicles of them in historical libraries (unfortunately I only have seem them as paper citations, figures)
From Dad's side: Spanish-Native in the side of my grandpa and German-Spanish in the side of my Grandma. My family history with dad is the entire opposite, I have no documentation at all about them. My great-grandma was Qom or Criolla, while my great-grandpa was born from Spanish parents in the ship on the way here, escaping from "the War" (grandpa was never clear on which war); he was raised as an hachero in Santa Fe and Chaco and he has A LOT of stories to tell about that. My grandma's ancestry is more complex because her home life was complicated; she definitevely has German ancestry, but I never found her name anywhere. Both came between 1890-1900, but that's about how far I found out. My last name is of Spanish origin, and apparently there were several Spanish knights bearing the name and the family shield, though I haven't been able to find the source. (at least, if, as my grandpa once commented, they didn't change it at the inmigration office........)

Cave & Saint-Guilheim!
On 26 May 2022, we went to a cave called La Grotte de Clamouse. Situated in the picturesque mountains and valleys of the Herault Departement, not far away from the village of Saint-Guilhem, it was formed by the Hérault river as it eroded and dissolved the caverns and passageways of the modern-day cave into the layers of dolomite below. Clamouse is characterized by its many types of limestone and calcium formations, such as the large stalagmite nicknamed “The Jellyfish”, close to the exit passage of the tour.
It was discovered in August of 1945 by a small team from the Speleo Club of Montpellier. The visitor center and modern electrical lighting systems are a more recent addition to the caves, but Clamouse has been a popular destination for tourists for decades, with standard guided tours as well as more adventurous spelunking available for those more confident in their climbing abilities. The many enormous and ancient rock and crystal formations throughout the cave are stunning and the result of millions of years of extremely slow calciferous deposits from the steady dripping of water filtering down from the river and aquifer above the cave.
Saint-Guilheim-le-Désert is named after Saint Guilheim, cousin of Charlemagne, who became a monk after his family died of disease. Charlemagne granted him two alleged pieces of the cross of Jesus Christ. He sought to found a monastery and chose the site of modern-day Saint-Guilheim-le-Désert. He was later buried in a crypt under the church of the monastery. Centuries later, the monastery became a popular pilgrimage site and formed a village around the monastery, due to the presence of a body of a saint and two pieces of the cross of Jesus Christ.
During the French Wars of Religion, between Protestants and Catholics, the church was invaded by Protestants who slaughtered the monks and damaged the monastery. Luckily, the body of Saint Guilhem and the pieces of the cross held at the monastery were not looted or destroyed by the invaders, and they are still present to this day. Today, the village of Saint-Guilhem is an extremely popular destination for tourists, receiving over a million visitors yearly, dwarfing its modern population of only around 215 inhabitants, many of whom are employed in tourism-based industries such as the many shops and restaurants centered around the monastery and the path leading to it.
The monastery itself is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture, coupled with even more beautiful surroundings. From the courtyard where the monks once gardened, it is possible to see the ruins of an ancient tower and archway on the nearby mountain, as well as a rock locals say is Guilhem himself, watching over the village in case the giant he is once said to have slain returns. According to legend, during his life Guilhem fought and slayed a giant in defense of the village, but after the battle the giant’s body could not be found, and thus Guilhem still stands guard in case his ancient foe returns to menace the village once more.

What type of wallpaper is best for walls?
Types of Wallpaper: • Lining Paper: Lining paper is used on bare walls or ceilings to prepare them for painting or create a primary layer for another patterned wallpaper. Lining papers cover the imperfections of the wall surface or cover up a strong color which might have been present previously. It helps smoothening the surface or implementation of a lighter paint. • Traditional Wallpaper: This wallpaper is cellulose-based and is more suited for the dining room or bedroom because they are eco-friendly. Large Pink Floral Wallpaper is readily available with design stores. However, Floral Wallpaper is not highly durable or washable. • Vinyl Wallpaper: This type of wallpaper is most commonly available at online or retail stores and is highly budget-friendly. It consists of a backing layer made of paper or fiber, and a plastic upper coating. It is washable, light- resistant and extremely durable, making them more commonly preferred. flower Wallpaper include wooden texture or stone walls. However, they must preferably be avoided in bedrooms since they are considered relatively less eco-friendly. • Embossed wallpaper: This wallpaper is best suited to add depth and design to your walls. The textures mostly include geometric patterns and suitably hide scratches, wall roughness and cracks, in general. • Liquid wallpaper: Liquid wallpapers are cellulose and cotton fibre-based known for high level of ‘clutch surface’ that make them suitable to be used on uneven walls to hide cracks and defects. Repairing part of the damaged wallpaper is quite easy. One has to only remove coating from the damaged area, mix with water, add fresh filler and apply back. It takes a day to fully dry. It is eco-friendly, non-toxic, allowing the walls to breathe and is easy to use. It has a good thermal and sound insulation. • Non-woven Chinoiserie Nature Wallpaper : Recent in trends, non-woven wallpapers are made of a special blend of natural and synthetic fibres, making them tear-resistant, washable and breathable. Being tear-resistant makes them most user friendly and are also eco-friendly wallpapers on the market today. Though they are easy to install, non-woven wallpapers are expensive. • Fibreglass Wallpaper: As the name suggests, fiberglass wallpapers are made of glass fibres, bound together to form a sheet material. Due to the base component, they are incredibly strong and provide easy installation to walls and ceilings. Being made from natural non-toxic materials like quartz, soda, lime and dolomite make fiberglass wallpaper to be a green product. Pink Floral Wallpaper are flame-resistant and are lightweight, extremely strong, and robust material. However, they are expensive. • Bamboo wallpaper: Made of bamboo, this wallpaper is an environment- friendly, natural product. It is known for being able to retain color for a long period of time. Because Black Pink Floral Wallpaper is a “natural” material, it can be ‘attract’ high moisture and is not easily cleanable. So, bamboo wallpapers are not recommended for kitchen or areas where they may come in contact with food or other possible greasy materials. Also, they should not be used in areas with high levels of moisture such as bathrooms unless a protective seal is applied on them. Gray Pink Floral Wallpaper are infamous for being costly and for high level of dust accumulation, with vaccuming as the only option for cleaning. • Textile wallpaper: Wallpapers made of silk, cotton, linen, felt, raffia, twines or feathers fall under the category of textile wallpapers and can be used for gorgeous effect. Fabric wallpapers are breathable, flame and stain- resistant, and provide exceptional insulation quality but are expensive and elite. • Flock wallpaper: Originally designed to create a faux cut velvet look, this product is an expensive one. Its 3D qualities add texture and dimension to a room. Flock wallpapers also help absorb sound while making a luxurious appeal to your space. The above list is not exhaustive, but includes major commonly available types of wallpapers. Given the variety of options, one must know the right choice of wallpaper for the given space.

Alta Via 2 Day 5: The weather gods have been mostly kind until today. But this is inevitable in the mountains. What begins as a sunshine-filled morning morphs into a cloud-filled early afternoon. What views are to be had in this section of the AV2? I can only hope they’re not as glorious as any I’ve seen until now. The trail has entered a more remote (or really, less traveled) part of the Dolomites, as today is perhaps the first day there is nobody else out on the trail (except for some people down at a lodge where the trail crosses a road - a lodge guarded by an enormous and drool-soaked Saint Bernard surrounded by “Do Not Pet” signs written in various languages). Hiking through a cloud with zero visibility is neither novel nor interesting, but today’s trail’s upward trend keeps things interesting and keeps the blood flowing. The goal was to make it to Rifugio Rosetta today, but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Instead, Rifugio Volpi al Mulaz (aka Rifugio Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata al Mulaz) is home for the night. Inside, there’s one of the friendliest hut-keepers of the trail thus far. She offers up space in the 20-person bunk room, which sounds awful until it’s discovered that everyone else in the hut (a group of six Dutch guys, a solo Dutch guy, and an Italian(?) guy) has opted for private rooms. Private 20-person bunk room it is. Contact with other hikers has been limited on the trail thus far, but solo Dutch hiker bro is chatty and becomes the first official acquaintance of the AV2- despite not getting his name, contact information, or itinerary. He’s also hiking the AV2, but with via ferrata gear and a healthy dose of wariness surrounding the weather expected tomorrow. Yes, the weather today appears to be a warmup for what’s to come mañana (which is Spanish for mañana). The possibility of a zero day lingers in the air, but I don’t know what I would do with myself for 24+ hours in this hut. There are only so many liters of wine in a day. Distance: 9.27 mi / 14.92 km Elevation gain: 3,907 ft / 1,191 m #altavia2 #dolomites

It has also been used for intaglio and hardstone cameo engraved gems, where the bands make the image contrast with the ground. Some onyx is natural but much of the material in commerce is produced by the staining of agate. Onyx was used in Egypt as early as the Second Dynasty to make bowls and other pottery items. Use of sardonyx appears in the art of Minoan Crete, notably from the archaeological recoveries at Knossos. Brazilian green onyx was often used as plinths for art deco sculptures created in the 1920s and 1930s. The German sculptor Ferdinand Preiss used Brazilian green onyx for the base on the majority of his chryselephantine sculptures. Blue Onyx Stones was also used for trays and pin dishes – produced mainly in Austria – often with small bronze animals or figures attached. Onyx is mentioned in the Bible many times. Sardonyx (onyx in which white layers alternate with sard - a brownish color) is mentioned in the Bible as well. Onyx was known to the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The first-century naturalist Pliny the Elder described both type of onyx and various artificial treatment techniques in his Naturalis Historia. Read the full article

Sustainability in Event Management: How Professional Team Manages Everything
Tumblr media
Let's talk about parties, concerts, and weddings - these fun events that we love. But, did you know it takes a lot of work to make these events happen? This is called event management. It's like being a wizard that makes everything run smoothly. Nowadays, these wizards, or event managers, have a new trick up their sleeve - they're making events kinder to our planet. They do this by using smart methods that protect our environment and make events even more fantastic. This is especially true with event management In South Tirol, Italy, and places likewise beautiful and full of nature places.
These thoughtful choices not only minimize environmental impact but also lend a unique and local flavor to the events, making them memorable and authentic. Let's dive into the topic of sustainability in event management and how professionals do it.
Being Smart about Celebrations
Planning an event is like putting together a big puzzle. Event managers need to think about what food to serve, who to invite, how to decorate, and what to do when things don't go as planned. Now, they also need to think about how to make these events good for our planet. How do they do that? They can use food and decorations from local shops, set up ways to manage waste, encourage people to share rides, and use technology that saves energy.
Making Choices that Matter
With event management in the Dolomites and likewise places where the beauty of nature surrounds you, event managers are extra careful. They make choices that are good for the environment and make the event special. For example, they might use things again and again instead of throwing them away, send digital invites instead of paper ones, and use food that is grown locally. These smart choices help the planet and make events unique and memorable.
A New Chapter in Event Planning
People now realize that we need to take care of our planet. So, they expect event managers to plan green events. Because of this, Event Agency South Tyrol, Italy (Event Agentur Südtirol Italien), based and many others are coming up with creative ways to make events sustainable. Sustainability in event management has moved from being a 'nice-to-have' to a core value that shapes the planning and execution of all events. This means that being kind to the environment is now a big part of event planning.
Conclusion
In the future, all events will need to be green. This is good news for our planet and for people who love attending unique and meaningful events. This also means that event managers have exciting times ahead. There's a company named Hannah &Elia leading the way in this. While they don't shout their name from the rooftops, you can see their smart and subtle touch in all their events. They make every event special, and at the same time, they save planet too. With them, every party, concert, or wedding isn't just a celebration - it's also a step towards a better future. You can visit their site to know more: - Hannahelia.com.
