The last set of Fantasy Au references, this one including the Kingdom of Sunshine aka the girls.
Honestly, they have some of my favorite designs for the au, I especially like Blood Elf Bebe and Druid Heidi. And also if anyone is wondering why Nichole is an archer instead of a nymph like she is in phone destroyer, I came up with her design a long time ago and it was either before nymph Nichole came out, or before I really got into Phone Destroyer and I didn't really wanna change it so yeah.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Open in 1984, a huge house at night and a car pulls up. A man, Michael Eng, rushes inside looking for his wife, who was admitted. He hands the keys to his car to one annoying nurse and learns his wife is in labor. The doctor comes out and tells him his wife asked for him to not join her, even though we see her calling his name. Dr. Oakwood tells him there is plenty of time. She gives him a candle and tells him to place it at the base of a mighty oak tree. Michael is tired of their mumbo jumbo, but Oakwood reminds him her methods made this baby happen. He takes the candle is is shown where to go.
Michael follows the path outside, under the full moon. At oak he finds an altar and places the candle. A crow caws, the wind blows and the ground shakes. Suddenly a root wraps around his neck and he is pulled down into the earth. We see a strange wooden idol in the tree.
In the delivery room, his wife Jennifer has delivered a baby, a boy which Oakwood hands to the mother. When Jennifer asks about the twin, a girl, she's told the child was stillborn. She is adamant she heard the girl crying, so they sedate her. Upstairs, Oakwood and some nurses have a nursery set up and string vines of leaves about. Oakwood shows off the baby girl they call Sheila, and call her their first prophetess of many, hoping to bring back the Druid people.
Cut to credits.
Present day, a couple is shopping for a cradle and a baby doll for the nursery for their soon-to-be-born child. Seems they have tried for 13 years to conceive, and then met Dr. Oakwood, the husband is not a fan of Oakwood's naturalistic methods, and the wife jokingly scolds him.
At Oakwood's hospital, many expecting parents wait to be seen. Upstairs, we see the nursery is now home to many small children, all girls. They are taught lessons of the forest and nature. We also see Sheila, now a small child. Oakwood watches happily.
Johnny is buying a hot dog from a cart when a fight breaks out between a woman and a newspaper vendor, as she tries to steal a magazine and rants about a woman stealing her baby. Johnny breaks it up and pays for the magazine. We see the woman is Jennifer Eng, and the magazine has Oakwood on the cover, an article about her amazing method to help infertile women conceive.
Johnny buys Jennifer a coffee and they sit on a bench as she tells him about Oakwood's spells. Johnny asks if he can call her husband, but she thinks he abandoned her. And their son Scotty died the previous year. Jennifer is afraid to go there, but asks if Johnny would, and shows him a picture of her son, believing he could recognize her daughter, since the kids were twins. Johnny is unsure, but she asks for help.
At Curious Goods, he's told the story to Micki and Jack. In the article, it says Oakwood has a 98% rate of success. Johnny thinks they should check it out, but jack doesn't find her name in the Manifest. Micki says the couple they saw did say Oakwood works miracles. Johnny leaves, having promise Jennifer he'd help. Micki leaves to ask if the couple who shopped there might also be expecting twins.
Oakwood and her nurses are at the oak tree that night performing a ritual in white robes. They cut off one of the strange growths, then take turns drinking from a skull. They believe the oak will soon bear fruit, one for each nurse to take and grow their own tree, spreading their Druidic cult far and wide.
Johnny arrives nearby and sneaks to a window. He sees a man waiting, who is sent to bring a candle to the oak. Johnny climbs an emergency ladder to the roof and sees all the children in the attic nursery. Holding the photo, he sees Sheila and her resemblance to her brother Scotty. A nurse comes in to send them to bed, pulling the curtain. Johnny goes back down as the expectant father places the candle and is pulled into the ground. Johnny hears his scream but arrives too late. A flower on the tree opens and we see a small idol inside.
At the store the next day, Johnny asks them to explain the kids. Micki says maybe they belong to the nurses, and Jack says maybe the scream he heard was from an animal, and Johnny is reading too much into it. But he can't let it go. He says he will wait until dark to go back, but he believes Jennifer.
That night, him and Micki go to the hospital and find the lights out. In the woods, the cult and the children are performing a ritual in anticipation of the also-present Sanderson couple's upcoming delivery. Johnny and Micki go to the room, and see no kids inside. He opens the window to enter and Micki tries to stop him. But in he goes.
Johnny and Micki go downstairs to snoop around. They go to Oakwood's office. In the woods, the ritual goes on. Johnny can't find a file for the Eng couple. Micki sees a fire in the woods, so they go to investigate, but Johnny also grabs some files. They make their way to the woods, and watch as the Sandersons drink from a cup as the group chants.
Back at Curious Goods, they fill Jack in on what they saw. Micki is creeped out by the language, and Jack speaks Gaelic, which Micki says was the same. Jack tells them about Celts and Druids and what an oak tree means to them. He is worried a cursed item must somehow be involved.
Next day, they are still looking at the files. Seems all have the same things in common, such as all having boy children and many husbands abandoning them and vanishing. Jack finds a fertility statue made of black Irish oak in the Manifest. The god supposedly gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, from his forehead. Lewis sold it to a Dr. Frederick Cornwall.
Oakwood examines Mrs. Sanderson, who seems to think she feels two sets of feet. Oakwood laughs it off, later telling a nurse they will give her enough meds that she won't remember how many kids she had. A nurse comes in saying the tree is blooming but the fruit isn't ripening. Seems every twelfth husband is enough to feed the tree for a year, but to reproduce, they need another sacrifice. Seems like Mr. Sanderson will be their victim.
Micki is talking to Dr. Cornwall, who says he donated the statue to a charity. Micki asks if Oakwood could have gotten it. He knows Oakwood, he can asks. He's a pediatrician and she refers patients. He also has explanations for why her results produce all boys, and that fathers may leave due to the stress of trying to conceive for so long. Micki isn't so sure.
Jennifer Eng calls Johnny, who says he has investigated and he doesn't want to get her hopes up, but her daughter might be there. Jennifer only hears that and takes off. Micki comes in and tells them about her meeting with Cornwall. Jack tells them about his research, that all the Druid priest were women, as is the entire staff of Oakwood's hospital. Johnny speculates the missing fathers were sacrifices. Jack thinks the sacrifices are tied to the full moon and nature, and Micki says this weekend is both a full moon and the winter solstice.
The girls are in their nursery, Shelia telling the nurse about a dream about her father, who told her he was dead. The nurse reminds her they have told them all their parents live in foreign countries. Jennifer Eng comes in saying that is a lie, telling Shelia she is her mother. Other nurses come in an stop her. Oakwood tells her she will be the guest of honor at the sacrifice of fire tonight.
Oakwood has Jennifer tied up and nurses making a casket out of wood and straw. One nurse, Morgan, is upset that they plan to sacrifice a woman, but Oakwood says this is different, that the burning will ripen the fruit of the tree and any sacrifice is acceptable. Morgan is still unsure, but Oakwood tries to assuage her. Then the Sandersons arrive, in labor.
At the store, Johnny wonders where Jennifer went to, and Micki can't get ahold of the Sandersons. Jack says they will head out to the hospital to take a look.
Oakwood sends Mr. Sanderson out of the delivery room, telling him all is going well.
Jack sends Johnny to check the nursery, and him and Micki go to snoop around. A nurse gives Mr. Sanderson a candle and tells him to head to the oak tree. He is reluctant, but does as told. Mrs. Sanderson is having a rough labor and doesn't want drugs but Oakwood knocks her out anyway.
Micki and Jack slip inside and hide. exploring a room. Micki sees a chest from the ceremony, with the skull inside, but not statue. On the roof, Johnny is about to enter the window, but sees Mr. Sanderson heading to the oak and goes to follow. Sanderson puts the candle on the altar, the wind blows and ground shakes. As he is dragged, Johnny tries to save him but gets pulled into the ground himself. The earth seals back up.
Micki and Jack hear the cry of the first Sanderson baby and Micki goes to investigate. Jack sees the cult in their robes with torches and the casket outside, but before he can react, Morgan puts a cloth over his face and knocks him out.
Micki goes up and finds the nursery full of children. She asks if they saw a strange woman, and Shelia asks if she means the woman who said she was her mother? Micki says yes.
Morgan and Oakwood decide to sacrifice Jack instead of Jennifer, ensuring the tree bears fruit.
Under the tree, Johnny struggles with the writhing roots.
Oakwood and a nurse hook Jennifer up to kill her by slowly drawing all the blood from her body.
Micki asks is Shelia knows where they took the woman, but she doesn't. Micki asks if Shelia will help her find the woman, cause she is her mother. They leave as a nurse comes in with the new baby.
The women proceed to the oak with their torches and Jack in the coffin. Johnny continues to struggle to get free from the ground.
Micki and Shelia look for Jack and Jennifer. Shelia says they must have gone to the tree. Micki finds a sleeping Mrs. Sanderson, but leaves her.
Johnny hears Mr. Sanderson calling for help. He also finds skeletons of previous dead fathers.
The tree's flowers keep opening as Jack in the casket is raised into the tree.
Micki finds Jennifer and goes to help her.
Johnny finds Mr. Sanderson but the tree fights him.
Micki tells the reunited Jennifer and Shelia to get out of there and goes to find Johnny and Jack.
Johnny frees Mr. Sanderson and together they look for a way out as the cult chants above them. Jack spins around, helpless. Johnny finds the original statue in the trees roots and begins cutting it free.
Above, the tree sounds like it is screaming and Oakwood watches in horror as one by one, the flowers fall off. A lightning storm starts and the cult realizes the tree is dying. Johnny keeps cutting and eventually gets the statue free. The casket with Jack inside falls to the ground, lightning strikes the tree and more and flowers with mini idols inside fall to the ground. The cult rushes around in a panic, Oakwood unable to stop them from fleeing. Micki arrives and frees Jack as Johnny and Mr. Sanderson emerge from the ground. Oakwood tries to gather up the seedlings, but lightning strikes the tree and a huge limb falls on her, killing her. Jack and all back off from the tree as more lightning strikes, destroying the tree completely. Jack takes the statue from Johnny and tells him and Micki to gather all the seedlings, and not to miss any. He leads Mr. Sanderson back to the hospital.
That morning at the store, Jack apologizes to Johnny for not listening to him earlier. If he had, maybe the statue wouldn't have replicated so many copies of itself. But Micki reminds him that Jennifer has her daughter back and the Sandersons have both of their children. As Jack goes to put the mini idols in the vault with the rest, Johnny says they should look for another cradle for the Sandersons, a twin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My thoughts:
Quite a different episode, delving into the Celts and Druidic religion and even the hope people have to have a child of their own.
Since I assume inspections must have to happen at Oakwood's hospital, no one ever found the nursery or all the children? Or wonder why so many husbands vanished without a trace? Never an investigation or anything? Oakwood is famous enough to be on a magazine, but not looked into too deeply.
Johnny is a good guy, helping Jennifer and thee listening to her story, but wow, Jennifer jumps right into asking a stranger for a huge favor! Break in and find my daughter!
Micki says the upcoming weekend is the winter solstice. In 1989, that was on December 21st and in 1990, that happened on December 22nd. This episode aired on May 19, 1990. Hmmm…
Is this the first time a cursed item had the ability to replicate mini versions of itself? And what a terrorizing thought. I wonder how many mini idols they ended up finding. And hopefully didn't miss any in the confusion.
What a story the news must have had with the aftermath, and all the kids found living in the attic. Lots of surprised parents, for sure. Wonder if Jack and crew had some strange questions to answer.
Next week: The Charnel Pit

A Spark of Magic
Continuing the cursed Steve train because I just love it too much. But with a twist. Fairytale/fantasy setting. Not a full drabble, more of a collection of ideas.
The old king finally decided to fuck off, that's what the kingdom called it. The old king Richard of Harrington was a piece of shit, cold, uncaring, asking for more and providing less. He only had one son, Steven, but he was rumored to be a disappointment - so much so that he hadn't been seen in public for years. Yet another rumor was that the boy was cursed by a witch as a way to punish his father. Maybe he was in a castle guarded by a dragon. Or perhaps he was in deep sleep after pricking his finger on a hedgehog. There was probably something about the witch thing though...especially because the former king Richard, may he rest in pieces after he went to hunt a wyvern, the old snobbish idiot, banished all witches, druids, wizards and sorcerers from the kingdom.
Life without magic hadn't been easy. Sickness was rampant because witches no longer provided herbal remedies, a lot of wildlife migrated to the neighboring kingdoms along with the banished druids, crops were at the mercy of turbulent weather because sorcerers and wizard could not regulate temperatures on the fields. Still, the king wouldn't budge, he punished every attempt at re-introducing magic to his land.
Lo and behold, the old king disappeared in the woods and the captain of the guard only delivered his bloodied helmet to the grieving widow. Well, not so grieving, there wasn't any love between her and her husband, but she nodded at Captain Hopper and to the surprise of everyone in the throne room said: "Fetch my son, please."
The kingdom gradually learns quite a few things, mostly because the head of the kitchen, Murray, is a terrible gossip.
The son was a huge disappointment to his father for many a reason, but the main one was - when he was ten years old, he begged a local with to turn him into a cat because he really, really liked cats, but they were scared of him, and he loved witches in all the stories he read. She obliged and added the usual "true love's kiss" formula to her curse, just to give him the full cursed experience. Young Steven had a blast running around, napping in the sun and all, and when it was time to turn back, he didn't wait for the witch. He ran to his mother and asked her for a kiss because surely she loved him, surely her kiss would break the curse. Except her kiss did nothing - while the queen wasn't an evil woman, she had little love to give after years in an arranged marriage.
And to make things worse, before the king could call for the witch to lift the curse, another boy, a nephew of the town's blacksmith, wandered in and kissed Steve's furry head, turning him back to normal. So not only did the queen not love her son enough, but a boy from the common folk loved the young prince enough to break a curse. All that shame just because of one spell. In his rage, the king banished all those who practiced magic and made sure his son would not be seen in the public again. The story was that he was sent to the neighboring kingdom for his education.
When the queen asked Captain Hopper to bring her son, the nobles perhaps expected a messenger, a letter or something. Instead, Hopper returned shortly after with one of his guardsmen...a young man named Steve. Steve who herded the local children and made sure they'd make it home safely before the sun went down. Steve who sang in pubs in a booming voice and made friends easily. Steve who had been living in the barracks for at least ten years.
And so King Steven started his reign and things were...different.
Steve - as his subjects kept calling him - fired most of his father's advisors and disregarded the whispers of nobles in his ears. A few assassination attempts had been made, of course, but that very quickly ended when a) the assassins found out that literally the entire royal guard decided to ensure the young king's safety, b) Steve was trained well by Captain Hopper and one of the assailants was hit over the head with a mace the king kept under his bed and tossed out the palace window (the king made sure to apologize to the servants for the broken window and the blood they had to clean, he asked Murray to prepare a few of his famous dishes as a compensation).
To add insult to the injury, five new faces found their way into the castle.
The sorceress Nancy who practiced her art in secret and sent a fireball after a noble who insulted her. King Steven didn't move a muscle and simply added that such a language had no place in his court.
The scholar Jonathan who was tasked by Steve to create educational system for the kingdom's children, renewing both public education and identifying potential magic wielders. He and Nancy would make sure the new generation would know how to use their gifts safely and for the public good.
The herbalist Argyle who took it upon himself to provide healing herbs to whoever needed them, at least until Steve managed to fix the small problem with magic they had.
The royal advisor and spokeswoman Robin who had a bit of a tendency to ramble, but her language skills brought much embarrassment and hilarity when she loudly commented on foreign diplomats shit talking Steve in their own languages.
And finally, the bard Eddie, the same boy who kissed Steve and turned him back from a cat. Eddie who always lounged at Steve's side, quietly strumming and observing any danger to his king with sharp eyes and even sharper blade hidden in his tall boots.
It takes over a year, but gradually King Steven manages to persuade most of the magic users to return. He offers a sincere apology, presents his vision for the kingdom and even offers a small petty revenge on him as a price of their return, magic wielders have their pride and not all of them can be swayed by words. However, being allowed to turn the son of the man who banished them into a broom for a week, well. That's something else.
Robin takes care of the negotiations. "My apologies, King Steven has already made a promise to spend the next three days as a dragonfly, then he has a meeting with King Thomas, but next Sunday should work for him. What form do you intend for him? A wooden stool? Very poetic, he will definitely agree to spending two days like that. Please make sure to include the true love's kiss in your curse, thank you kindly. We shall see you next week then, thank you for your time!"
Steve is a man of his word, but of course he wants to prove his good intentions to his new allies. And so when those two days are up, the witch visits again and watches as the bard hops down from the hand rest of the throne and gently smooches the stool/dragonfly/curtain/whatever form Steve agreed to. Gradually magic returns to the kingdom and with it, prosperity.
And if there was someone who couldn't look past the wrongdoings of the previous king? Then Steve invited them to a private room with a golden cage where a very old and pouty parrot stared at them, glaring daggers. "Would you like to say something, Richie?" smiled Steve and tossed some bird seed into the cage.
The bird scoffed. "Stop this foolishness now, Steven!" and oh, okay. The voice was very familiar. The old king Richard was dead, long live the parrot Richie.
King Steven kept his wide smile and gave Richie a fresh slice of fruit before covering his cage.
As another vindicated wizard left the castle, Steve caught Eddie's eyes and blew him a kiss.
Eddie returned the gesture, his fingers sparkling with magic as he played his lute.
(if you're wondering, yes. Guardsman Steve and his lover Eddie were getting sick of the magical oppression. It was actually Nancy being found practicing magic that spurred them into action, they waited for King Richard during his hunt and Eddie, a bard who learned to control his powers with Nancy, turned him into a parrot. Murray provided some blood from the kitchen, Hopper stepped on the helmet several times and then presented it to the queen who decided not to ask any questions because the less you know, the less time you have to spend with your parrot husband.)

that green light, i want it
Part 7
There’s a sickening silence that follows his declaration. It takes a beat too long for Steve to respond, and the satisfied grin on Henry’s face says that confession hit home, effectively shocking Steve into silence, as though he has to be the smartest person in the room. Eddie hates him.
But Steve shakes his head, like he’s trying to clear the air, and says, “It doesn’t matter what I am. Where is Nancy?”
“Oh, I haven’t harmed your girlfriend, Steven.” He tilts his head again. A sickening feeling settles in his gut that Henry is somehow ten steps ahead of them. “She’s not what I want, she’s just an easy target. All you humans are so simple in your desires. So foolish how you go about things, when you should just take. You think what you are isn’t important, but it’s the only thing that matters.”
Steve’s hands flare up green again, tightly balled up fists at his sides, as if he’s holding back from unleashing his fury. But for the first time, Eddie notices how the ground around them is alive, too. It’s so subtle he wouldn’t have seen it unless he was really looking, but the grass within the forcefield is standing at attention, like the hairs on the back of your neck when you’re frightened. They wilt back down when Steve gets control and his hands flicker out. Huh.
One glance at Henry tells him he’s just as intrigued, a glimmer of hunger in the depths of his unwavering stare. He’ll do anything to keep this man away from Steve. Conceivably, it’s idiotic. To throw himself into danger for someone he just met, but while Henry confirmed Steve is more powerful than even he knew, Steve is also vulnerable. A sheep in the lion’s den. And Eddie’s always protected defenseless sheep.
“Why is it always a game with you? Why don’t you ever just say what you mean?” Steve huffs out, clearly frustrated. Eddie is too, even if there’s this dreadful part of his brain that’s delighted to witness a true villain monologue happening like he’s been dropped straight into his own horrifically crafted dnd campaign.
“Haven’t you been listening?” Henry’s ghoulish smile reappears. “Your power is the only thing that matters. Killing that girl was a fool’s errand. That ritual is child’s play in comparison to draining a druid. Isn’t it wonderful how the universe provides?” Every word out of his mouth increasingly more erratic, “I thought I had it all figured out. Sacrifice the girl and get the power. But, no. It didn’t work, I thought perhaps I had miscalculated, but really the universe was trying to give me something better. Something more than a useless child and useless witch. You.”
And before Eddie can stop himself, the words come tumbling out of his mouth. “But you did miscalculate.” His heart is both thumping in his chest and altogether trying to stop. Why would he say that? Why would he draw attention to himself like that in front of someone who’s clearly unhinged?
Steve’s head turns infinitesimally to the side, barely noticeable, when Henry's attention snaps to Eddie, like they both forgot he was there.
“Seems your friend is just as foolish as you are, Steven.”
“I’m a fucking idiot, but so are you, you pale asshole.” Steve tenses under his hands in warning. May as well go all in. “You did miscalculate. Barb wasn’t a virgin, that’s why your sacrifice didn’t work.” He waves one hand in the air, scoffing, “Not because the universe is trying to reward your shitty behavior.”
“I don’t even know who you are,” Henry growls, moving forward as if to step off the porch towards them, “I could snap your neck wi-”
A few things happen all at once, and Eddie will never get to hear the end of that sentence. Henry is frozen in place, body jerking unnaturally, throat convulsing and eyes frantic, looking lost as he sees Steve’s hands their natural color, no green to be seen. No, purple is the shade surrounding Henry, snaking up like vines around his wrists, chaining him down.
Eddie’s confused too, until two people step out from behind Henry and come into focus. One is a woman Eddie’s never seen before, but Steve lets out a cry of Nance that gives her away, with purple ebbing and flowing from her hands, eyes gleaming in the starlight like little galaxies as she holds Henry in place.
The other Eddie knows, a little too well, from his days dealing before he could get a better job. Hopper is holding out a gun, pointing it directly at Henry’s head and scanning their surroundings for any other threats. He’s never been happier to see a cop.
“Hopper?” Eddie asks incredulously, wondering how he got involved in all of this.
“Munson,” Hopper gives him one of his deadpan stares for a beat, before nodding at Steve. “Harrington. Thanks for the tip.”
“Did you get what you needed?” Steve asks. Hopper nods again and Steve’s shoulders finally relax, letting out a long exhale. His attention switches to Nancy. “Nance, you okay?”
“I’m fine, but I can’t hold him for much longer.” She’s visibly trembling, the magic coursing through her entire body, weakening her. Even Eddie can see the dark circles under her eyes and the gaunt appearance of her skin illuminated by her magic.
The forcefield around them winks out of existence as Steve rushes to help, but it’s too late. Nancy’s magic flickers.
It happens in less than a second but to Eddie, time slows down. A ring of purple flares like the sun reflecting in a pond, blinding for just a moment, and Nancy’s gone, collapsing in a pile of limbs. A rag doll that a little girl casually tossed aside when she was done playing. Fitting for them being pawns in whatever game Henry was playing.
Steve lunges and Eddie’s not sure if it’s towards Henry or Nancy, but he’s too far away to make a difference, not thinking clearly enough to use the magic at his fingertips, even though they’re lit up like sparklers.
But it doesn’t matter, because Hopper’s gun goes off. Two rapid resounding shots, echoing in the calm night The only sound besides an answering howl from a distant dog.
It doesn’t happen exactly like the movies. Henry doesn’t ricochet back and collapse dramatically. His head only jerks back a few inches before he falls to his knees, two bullets lodged in his skull. He doesn’t have any last fleeting words he can depart. One moment he’s alive, the next, dead. No remorse there.

okay so somehow my thembo druid managed to Steven Universe their way to the "good" ending with astarion's romance (after quite a LOT of save scumming and everyone applying skill buffs to them, because we are not good at persuasion checks in this house) and it *is* worth it but getting there was so hard.
a lot of the guides i looked at mentioned the global consequences of the end of the pale elf questline but not the personal ones (for the romance/astarion) so i've written out each of the possible endings if you want to go in knowing/with a plan (and also drew little comics)
spoilery thoughts, art and path recs behind cut ⬇️
i tried all the other options you can do with the end of his personal quest all of them SANS ONE are fucking tragic, so when you get to that one persuasion check absolutely do not fail it whatever you do (unless you like tragedy, then you do you ofc).
you've got a chance to save post cazador fight/before the important cutscenes so def do that!
major spoilers below here ⬇️ .
.
.
. i was kinda gratified that despite all appearances my "kind to children and animals, maybe a bit naive" druid tav was actually the right choice to get him there (and not an evil/morally grey aligned character as i've seen a lot of people say they're going to romance him on).
like not compromising on their values was what did it, not just letting him do whatever he wants (i did try the worst path first which felt bad b/c it went against my tav's core hard lines so glad i re-did it instead of writing it off)
here are the choices:
bad ending #1 -> prevent him from doing the ritual but fail the persuasion check (that convinces him it's not really what he wants). he gets real upset at your lack of support, tells you to go fuck yourself, and leaves permanently :c bad ending #2 (worst one imho) -> help him finish the ritual. the power consumes him, he loses all sense of self. all your other companions hate it (take big relationship approval hits), you have to kill the gur* on your way out. you will either have to break up or become his spawn (he will esp hate you and himself if you do the latter), his personality completely changes and it's really fucking sad (upside, he's very powerful now so i guess if you want him to be tankier purely for combat...) bad ending #3 ->*same as #2 except on your way out, you side with the gur instead and have to kill astarion. he will be permanently dead :c
the one good ending (for ast/romance) -> prevent him from doing the ritual by convincing him that it's not really what he wants (this is the persuasion check that you cannot fail). you get some lovely closure scenes with him afterwards and the rest of your party approves (he will be stuck w/vamp weaknesses for post endgame stuff probably)
Tumblr media
so yeah there's lots of ways this can go off the rails, the core thing with his romance is pretty much giving him back his agency but also being willing to stand up and be the guard rail when he gets tempted by things that are objectively bad for him (he's def got a self destructive/addictive streak).
It was a bit difficult to navigate b/c he does like it when you do low-key crimes early on (stealing, lying) and protecting him (the gur hunter, the other vamps) so you need a bit of that to win approval i think? but at the end of the day, your tav having integrity and believing he's got integrity and making him believe it is the more important thing.
it was hard but totally worth it, his funny little squawks when he realizes you like him are so sweet and cute 10/10 will probably romance several more times lol

Druid Tav Losing Control Over Wildshape
I don't watch Steven Universe but I've seen that scene near the end where Steven was under so much trauma from his childhood that he slowly loses control over his powers and starts transforming into a monster. I thought of that but with my Druid Tav.
They've been through plenty of traumatic events but they've always been pushed down because their friends needed them more.
It culminate to them losing control over their wildshape.
Druid Tav who suddenly has problems with wildshaping. They've been wildshaping for years but suddenly its getting harder to be in control
Druid Tav who wildshapes into an animal and soon after start behaving weirdly. Wildshaping has the druid acting like the animal but it still has their mind and consciousness
Druid Tav wildshapes and they start losing their senses. Starts acting like an actual wild animal and doesn't recognize their allies.
Their allies approach them wondering about their weird behavior when they snap at them with their teeth or swipe their claws. Surprising everyone.
The animal freezes as if realizing what they did and Druid Tav turns back instantly, apologizing. They are questioned for the act but Tav waves it off saying they got too carried away.
The more perceptive eyes notice Druid Tav not wildshaping as much as they used to. Even outside of battle they would lounge as a cat or fly around as a bird. Now that habit has changed.
Companions try to talk to Tav, ask if something was wrong. They want to help. But Tav continued to tell them nothing serious was wrong.
They make excuses, saying nature wouldn't allow them that day or they weren't up to it. Then during a difficult fight they are forced to wildshape and it seems to go fine until the fight is over and Tav still hasn't turned back. And they're still being aggressive.
Allies now have a hostile wild animal on their hands. They scream at Tav to turn back as they defend themselves. Wildshaped Tav backing away, acting more and more like a cornered animal. It dawns on their friend that something was wrong all along.
A friend braves getting close to them, trying to comfort and see what was wrong when Tav lashes out, injuring them.
Everyone is in shock and the cry from their friend spurns Wild shaped Tav back to normal, looking horrified at what they've done.
The atmosphere is tense. Tav sees the shocked and angry looks leveled at them but they're mostly focused on the injury they inflicted on their friend. It's too much. They turn and run away, ignoring calls of their name.
Later their friends try to learn what's doing this to them. Perhaps mind control? Maybe they hear from an older druid explain that sudden issues controlling wildshape is always rooted to an internal issue. You inner beast is acting out for a reason because it reflects the state of your mind.
One friend realizes Druid Tav was hurting a lot more than they showed. That their wildshape only lashed out because they were acting like a cornered injured animal, fear was the main emotion they saw in their eyes.
They search Tav out, even the one they injured. Tav was slowly getting worse. Guilt and self-hatred growing by the minute. They hurt their friend. The more emotional and distressed they get their human form gets more beastly.
Their wildshape starts to look wrong, flawed. Different traits from different beasts start merging into one. Like a chimera. They don't want to transform but the urge is too strong. They think their turning into a monster.
Their friends find them and they tell them to leave, for their own safety. Their friends don't listen. Tav has always been there for them when they never asked, it was their turn to do the same.
It ends with them just holding on to Tav as they turn into something monstrous. Tav is held as they wildshape into different beasts, crying and wailing. Realizing that what was influencing them was their own grief, their own trauma. Their wildshape was out of control because it thinks they were hurt, that they were still indanger.
Finally letting everything out, Tav slowly transforms back into their normal form. Their friends still there trying to comfort them despite the danger.

Thinking about the crystal gems playing D&D.
Garnet plays a warlock who is in a romantic relationship with their deity, who has never known peace due to their mortal significant other constantly getting up to shenanigans.
Amethyst plays fighters because she likes to be the tank, since she can't really do it that much IRL.
Pearl runs paladins almost exclusively, very much taking a "me but better" approach with her characters.
Steven is a druid and therefore the party's healer since that's very much his wheelhouse.
Peridot's aroace ass plays a bard that is constantly trying to seduce everything because she finds it funny.
Lapis likes playing barbarians because she is full of rage and this is a much more healthy way to express that than real world violence.
Bismuth plays a rouge. Specifically a gnome rouge who tries to get out of every single fight by pulling the "just a little guy" card.
Connie is a sorcerer due to the fact that she likes the idea of being inherently magical and special.
Jasper DM's. She is the kind of DM who absolutely refuses to kill PC's, and has resorted to divine intervention in the name of keeping them alive after an unexpected critical hit from one of her monsters. She got into D&D after randomly finding one of the books and reading it because she was bored. At first the rest of the crystal gems just went with her newfound obsession because it got Jasper to willingly engage in social interaction, but now everyone has been sucked in and they have weekly sessions.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
